i am smiley.

my little overnight girls trip was fabulous.

there is just something awesome about getting out of the everyday and changing it up!

taking a 3 hour drive to visit a friend.
with a friend.
about 2 hours into our drive i took a breath and said "well….those are all my stories.  So…what's up with you?"

i am kind of a big talker.

i love when there is TIME to really talk.
to get down to the real stuff…. once the stories are over, the big things that happened and get down to the stuff that is deep in your heart.
the stuff that doesn't get said until you are past the small talk.

and it almost always takes an overnight getaway to get there.
you have to be off mommy duty for several hours.
you have to be relaxed enough to let you mind go to a new place.

because at least for me… i can't be in "that place" all day everyday.

the place where your dreams are… the place where you can think about WHY you are the way you are.
the place where you can safely talk about what is going on and what do i REALLY want.
what God has been showing me, teaching me and how He has been loving me.

when your life is GO GO GO and you are doing everything for kids all day and work and life…
"that place" gets shut out.

so it is always so nice to get away and find that place again.

🙂

i love spending time with Ashley.
she is a peaceful quiet force.
we are quite opposite but so much a like.
and the same with kimberlee… we are so different but so much the same.
she asks questions that i never think of.  she speaks words of truth to me.

girlfriends are the best.

and when girlfriends will sit at breakfast drinking coffee until lunch…. then life is pretty awesome.

completely unrelated to this post…. but very pretty anyway….

i made some mini yellow bunting for the yellow bedroom at the Craft House.

🙂

ok…

we are going to do some fun stuff for spring break.
so i should help get ready for that.

or i could hide in my room for awhile longer….

do you have any girls time scheduled in your future?

you will be so happy when you do.

make some time.  stick to it.  and get away from life long enough to catch your breath.

it's so worth it.

Jess - I love everything about this post. It’s made my heart smile. Thanks for writing it. 🙂 Girl time is the best.

Bethany - This weekend I went away with some friends to the Hearts at Home conference. Though it was a busy weekend it was nice to get away and gather some encouragement. Anita Renfro was the entertainment Friday night so we laughed until we cried.
I’m hoping to schedule in some more girlfriend time in the next month. I’m feeling disconnected from some of my best friends-life gets so busy.

Katie - Totally feelin ya! I loved this; “the stuff that doesn’t get said until you are past the small talk.
I have a girls night coming up on Friday and I cant wait!

Jen - Your post was lovely…as always….but I want that completely unrelated but gorg-E-ous red chair and fabric seat cushion and yellow bunting and just about all of what you have at the craft house! Your stuff always makes me smile! (and a weekend away with ‘my’ girls would be divine too!)

Tiffany - I know that talk you’re talking about. My girlfriends and I were able to enjoy that on our 9 hour trip to see you! (And back home again!) I’m so happy for you that you got a chance to get away!
Unrelated note… My hubby and I are looking into doing a 9 day trip with Habitat. Not sure when and where (maybe Haiti!)(Gotta keep saving up that money!), but it’s exciting to think about it!
Enjoy your spring break family time! I’ve still got a week and a half to wait till it’s my turn.

Abbie Swartzentruber - Hey Meg – a few weeks back I had emailed you about those pretty butterfly pillows you bought…and was so shocked to get an email back. Thank you for being so very kind and thoughtful – you pointed me in the right direction and now I have my very own butterfly pillows gracing my bed:) Thanks for being such an amazing inspiration to the Internet world:)!!

amyjupin - i love it.
i love it.
i love it.
i’m a teeny bit jealous.
i love it.
i love it.
i love it.
and you too.

Jennifer - I love the yellow mini bunting and the yellow polka-dot cup. Sounds like you had a great weekend – good for you!!

Stacy - Good friends are the best! I hope they have recharged your batteries.

Angela - I miss having friends like that.
Totally not a question for you, but I started reading Under the Sycamore after reading this post. I would love to figure out how she convinced her husband to let her have chickens. My current method of convincing involved pleading eyes and the phrase “Can we PRETTY PLEASE have chickens?” It’s not working out too well for me… 🙂

shauna reed - those best friends are such a miracle. you might not be the same, but they speak the same language. i miss my friends.

shauna reed - those best friends are a miracle. you might not be the same, but you speak the same language. i miss my friends.

Gail - Just spent the weekend with 2 girlfriends running the Big 12 5K and watching KU win the tourney. Good get away, good times.

dixie - girlfriends ARE the best!!! and where oh WHERE did you get that yellow mug? i LOVE it!!!

Rach - I certainly hope I can see my BFF at the end of April. It’s been too long and I miss her. Girl time is the best.

Danielle - Looks like so much fun! I can’t remember the last time I had a girl’s trip…I think it’s time:)

beth - an overnight is always what I need to get my “mojo” back!!! Loved your pictures and wiiiiiish I could do one of your craft weekends so bad! xo

Ashley - “a peaceful quiet force” – that made me smile. Can’t say I’ve ever thought that of myself. Thanks for coming down. It was so good to see you!

Darcie L. - Isn’t it nice? My best girlfriend and I (known each other since birth basically), slumber partied together last weekend and stayed up until 2:30am (3:30 – thank you Daylight Savings) just TALKING. We couldn’t stop! It’s so refreshing to have someone who understands every little thing, and doesn’t care about the junk, but CARES enough about the junk to talk about it and work through it with you.

Carly Winborne - I have that fun yellow polka dot mug! When I bought it, I thought it would be something that you would love. So not surprised to see a picture of it show up here! Love this post, the healing and truth it represents. Isn’t God good?

Cindy - Why yes I do have some girl time in my future! Every time I see you post pics from The Barn, I think…I so want to go there someday! Then recently it dawned on me that it’s almost exactly halfway between me and friends in Oklahoma. The PERFECT meeting spot, don’t you think?

Tracy - Sounds like a lovely getaway. Yay for girl time!

Dawn G - Glad you got a getaway! Fun!

Lora - Girlsfriends ARE the best. They “get” you and you don’t even have to explain yourself. Me and one of my best friends sometimes call each other and say, “I’m such a bad mom” and then tell our “bad mom” story. Then we laugh about it. We both know we’re great mothers so we can say that to each other 🙂

Lindsey - I love what you said about how it takes a little bit of time to get past the small talk and into the big stuff. So true – love it! Glad you had a great time!

Juli - Am I only one who sighs when they see these blog posts? Surely I’m not the only one with children ages 1-11, in their presence day in & day out, 24/7, with a husband that works long, demanding hours and considers a weekend away with me near impossible much less the idea of me away with girlfriends for a night. Am I really the only one who has the grandparents who live 17 hours away or who only want Kodak moments with their grandkids and don’t really want to watch them when I need some time off from being a Mom? Am I really the only one who wonders how bloggers handle the logistics of freeing themselves from Mommyhood for a couple of days and thinks that even just a couple of hours at Target alone would be nice? Sorry if I seem like a Debbie-downer. I am honestly asking if I am the only one.

jenny - my BFF of 26 years are headed to spend craft weekend with you and i can hardly stand the wait until may!!!! so excited! {jiggety, jig!}

Kelly - Wonderful post and a great reminder! I also want to know where you got the seat cushions. I love the bright colors.

happygirl - I miss having girlfriends. Everyone I’m friends with works full time and we’re all tired when we get home. I work hard at the friendships I have. They are precious to me.

Jessica - very sweet!! No surprise you are friends!! <3

Danielle - My husband just called me a crazy blog stalker because when I scrolled down to the pictures and saw the living room, I gasped and said, “That’s Ashley’s!” hahaha… it is probably weird since I live on the other side of the country and have never met either of you, but that’s okay! Right?! Glad you got to get away for a bit!

Kelly - Sounds like you had a wonderful time away! I just had a weekend full of girl time last weekend. It was our third year doing a girls crafting weekend away. And for the third year, it was awesome! My next girls weekend is on the calender for the first weekend in June – FARM CHICKS! So excited for that!

misty - time with the girlfriends is priceless & therapeutic. Happy weekend 🙂
ps where did you get those chair cushions? LOVE them

Lori Austin - Time with girlfriends is priceless. Haven’t had that time for myself in a long
time. Sigh… Good for you for getting away.
Enjoy your weekend and spring break!

kristen - I have a girl trip scheduled for April 5th in Kansas. I think we are going to be doing some crafting! 🙂

Kathy - i love this! it’s exactly how i feel about time with my girlfriends too!
kathy k =)

Alicia @ La Famille - i can hear in your “voice” that a night away did you good. it IS so important. glad you had some fun girl time. i haven’t in SO long and i need it bad!! i am going to spend the day away alone tomorrow and i’m really excited about that 🙂

Sarah{Handbags*N*Pigtails} - Relaxation, friends, quiet time= perfection. Glad you got to go!

lisa - What a nice weekend! I wish I was going away for a girls weekend! But… I am still nursing my daughter so that’s not possible. I am however going for a pedicure in the morning and my one hour pedicure is most definitely going to turn into a 3 hour mommy’s morning out. I am way more excited about it than I probably should be. Ha!

kathy - No “real” girl time but my sister-in-law and I have taken our kids on a trip to Memphis and we are sharing an adjoining room with the kids- so lots of time to really catch up while the kids hang together in the other room. It is a good next best thing! And awesome cousin time 🙂

jen - i would love to have a weekend like this. for me all my besties reside on the westcoast and i’m now in the east. i think that has been the hardest part of this move – the lack of girlfriends. i have tried but i just haven’t made any of those “special” friends. maybe one day. for now i will live through this and think of the day this summer i will spend 4 hours with my best girlfriend in vancouver. {with kids and husbands so it will be not the same at all but at least something after three years!} gosh i sound like debbie downer but gotta keep it real!! 😉

Seriously Sassy Mama - I would so love to take a trip with some friends. In the end though a trip by myself would be awesome!

Kate - So glad you were able to get away and enjoy!

jamie - oh your words are so powerful and true and lovely. so happy you were able to getaway! have a super fun spring break!

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Oh how I love my girlfriends…so very important to really be a good mom, right? I signed up for women’s retreat at our church with a girlfriend and we know no one else who is going. We’re not sure if we will have fun or not, you know what I mean?, but we know we will have fun together and that is a good thing. Happy weekend Meg! Glad you were with friends for a couple of days.
