hmmmm???

that green camper isn’t looking too bad now!

OH…can you imagine that life?
can imagine having nothing to tie you down?
no address?
9 children in one vehicle….for years and years?
an adventure everyday?

don’t worry craig…
i am aware this life would not work for us.
especially for me.

but something about it sounds wild and dreamy.
and hippie and crazy at the same time.
don’t you think?

cynthia - my camper would be decorated to the “t” and i would be so thankful for a family of three!

ngaire Bartlam - I adore the indie spirit.. but i KNOW I wouldnt cope with that whole thing.. I would love to see the movie of some who did though.
Ngaire
x

Jennifer P. - My mom bought her motorhome from a family that spent a year traveling around in it and seeing the United States. My mom said they all looked very tired and the kids wouldn’t stop picking on eachother ;)! You’re right though, it does SOUND nice!
Loved all your mothers day goodies! Happy belated mamas day to you!

Amy - hhmmm? I posted a comment but it disappeared… ; )
Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting…it’s fun finding your blog! Cute family!
The whole concept sounds like a great idea…but I don’t know if I could really do it!
Although, we did live with our in-laws for two years…does that count?

Amy - Thanks for the comment yesterday…fun finding your blog!
Love the idea…don’t know if we could go through with it…wow!
Although, we did live with my in-laws for two years…does that count as brave?

Mrs. Fox - There is something appealing about it. Maybe some of us having gypsy souls. 🙂

carissa - i would have no hair!!!
what a fun clip… glad you shared!

Liz - Whoa. I remember hating going camping in our pop-up … but we werent even close to this. 🙂

melissa @ the inspired room - You know, 10 years ago I would’ve laughed and said no way. Somehow, it sounds strangely appealing to me right now. I have many dreams of escaping. That is kind of scary. Maybe buying a camper is a good solution.
🙂
Happy day,
Melissa

Sara - you know, it does sound appealing in a “lets try it for a week or two” kind of way…but maybe its the kind of thing you’d have to commit to for at least a few months to really “feel” like you were living the spontaneous life. Enzo would love it, Lilly would love it, husband would hate it.

Kimba @ A Soft Place to Land - Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Nice to “meet” you. I’ve been reading your blog and really enjoying. You have a great family. I’ll be back.
Kim

meg duerksen - so…all my kids would be in the “other” camper right?
🙂 HA.
what’s TDY?
it really does sound like an exciting life.
i do have just a hint of hippie in me. it could be brought out if i was in a different place in my life. but for now…i like my make-up and jewelry and computer and house.
it would be quite an experience.
definitely more of a life-style than a long trip.
i’m with jerusalem…let’s just go camping more…or at least let’s go once.

southernseven - I think it would be fabulous. We have gone TDY with my husband and spent 8 weeks with 5 kids in a hotel room. I brought an electric skillet, had a microwave and small frige, and cooked in the room. It was a blast. We applied to go to Germany. I wasn’t planning on taking anything furniture wise. I wanted to just rent and buy functional IKEA furniture and spend our money traveling. I would love it. I have always dreamed of traveling the US in a RV. Come on, we could go together and put the bad kids in the “other” camper- or tie them to the roof!

Jill (One Wired Woman) - Oh… how did you find this? I need to see this! I’m the baby of seven children and I can’t imagine living in that small camper. We lived in a decent sized house and it was still crowded. What am I saying… I was the seventh and last, way behind the others so I was like an only child. I only lived with my two youngest brothers. 🙂 I won’t to see this documentary!!!!! You post the coolest things. I’ve got blog envy. 🙂 Hugs, Jill 🙂

traci - LOL..I would need a MUCH BIGGER camper than what that guy had…jeeeesh, thats a lot of kids in a tiny space..yowzers.
I think the experiences would be awesome but I need a “home” and stability. Not a hippie/nomad bone in my body…Im a big time NESTER.

jerusalem - I am with you, part of me is like “that is it! let’s do it!” and part of me is like “well, maybe we could at least go camping more.” But I love the indie spirit, was raised with some of that myself…Thanks for sharing – can’t wait to see it!

good times

some pretties from my mother’s day…

Img_2101_2

craig and the kids made lunch for me and craig’s mother.
steak and potatoes, salad and fruit.
it was so yummy and so much nicer than a crowded restaurant.
and then i got my gift…a long uninteruppted nap!
thank you craig.

hope everyone else had a day to relax and feel blessed.

melissa @ the inspired room - Well, we kind of celebrated Mother’s Day. Not as lovely as yours, though. We kind of put it off until another day as we had too much to do! I started moving my bedroom upstairs to our third floor. It really was like moving to a new house. My daughter’s stuff going downstairs, couches going downstairs, and our bed and clothes going up! It was exhausting, but I love it up here away from the kids! Things are still in chaos, but it was fun to work hard and get all of our stuff at least on the right floor.
Now I need a real mother’s day nap.

Lee Ann - I got the same gift! Lunch at home (I hate nothing more than crowded restaurants and hungry children) and a LONG nap! Who would have guessed something so simple could make a mom SO happy! Glad you had a nice day.

joni lane - happy mother’s day! i love the card that says “you rock mom!” that’s when you know you are loved.

mallory Heffron - Sound like you had a perfect mothers day….well deserved.
Happy Mothers Day..

emily loria - So glad you had a good one!
Happy Mom’s day!

double digits

Img_1976_2

10 years old.
he’s growing up so fast.
and changing so quickly.

Img_2003

Img_1982_2

he asked for only money this year.

Img_1980_2

Img_1988_2

and that’s what he got!
he was rollin’ in the dough…for about 20 minutes.
he went straight to wal-mart to buy the PSP he’s been saving for.
he needed some birthday spankings from dad first.
sean added the “pinch to grow an inch”
like any good brother would.

Img_1985_2

Img_2015_2

this is a PSP (for the grandma’s).
it’s a video game player that you can take anywhere.
he bought an NBA game…no surprise.
he opened it immediately and played from 5:00- 8:30.
only taking a break for cake.

Img_2061_2

happy birthday scott!
you are one special kid.
i know God has big plans for you buddy.

*he was born on mother’s day 10 years ago.
short and sweet…6 hours from start to finish.
that present can never be topped.

Chrissie - I had a baby on Mother’s Day too. She took 8 hrs coming and was a huge surprise. She came one month early. I’m guessing she didn’t like the dinner her Dad too me to eat at Red Lobster. She hates seafood. That was almost 21yrs ago and she’s still the best Mother’s Day gift I’ve ever received.
Take care, Chrissie

mom - Looks like Scott had a great day. And looks like he enjoyed the card I made. Did you make that Jayhawk cake? It’s very good.

Jennifer P. - I have a May 11 baby. So fun to share a Mother’s Day with a birthday.
He still has this last year to hold up both hands to show how old he is :)! Happy Birthday Scott!

kristin - oh, happy birth day to you, too.
and no wonder you went on to have three more kids…did your labors get shorter and shorter?
: )

Sarah Keith - What a sweet post! Happy birthday to your double digit boy!

traci - WOW…a baby boy on mothers day…WHAT A GIFT!!! Im no where near being a grandma (only 39) and didnt know what a psp was..lol..what we are electronically reject.lol
Happy Mothers Day Meg…LOVE YOUR BLOG

carissa - Happy Birthday to Scott… he is a cutie! how fun that shopping was!
AND…
happy Mother’s Day to you Meg!!!!! 🙂

traci - happy birthday scott. have fun with your psp!!
how wonderful that he saved his money and they put his birthday money towards his game. love it when they buy something on their own like that.
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY MEG!!

random friday

at wal-mart yesterday
eating a very large sprinkle covered donut
annie asks in a frustrated tone….

annie: Why is everybody ‘wookin’ at me?!

me: because you are cute to look at.

stomping her flip flops….

annie: I’M NOT CUTE!! I AM A-DOR-ABLE!!!!

which of course made everyone around us giggle.
she meant it in a bad way….
like “i am a brat”
but she doesn’t know what adorable means.
it was precious.

do you think this camper has a mechanical arm for feeding?
when i stopped to take the picture the kids started shouting
“are we buying that camper?!!”

i’m sure our neighbors wouldn’t mind
if we parked this on our street…right?

and this is not a camper?
it’s a school bus painted green!
it makes me want to see the inside to see what makes it a camper??

******************************************************

Img_1831_2

this was pretty sweet…from far away.
i know that geese are mean and nasty birds!
we stayed far away.

*******************************************************

it’s been so nice outside that we have
been doing lots of this…

Img_1895_2

Img_1875_2

such easy entertainment.

****************************************
happy birthday morgan!
we love you!
****************************************

kim in Camas - ScrapToMyLu - I wanna come play in your yard…….and then go for a walk around the block to gaze at the beautiful homes.

emily loria - Glad you stayed away from those nasty birds. 😉

Holly - I so enjoy your blog & read it daily. Found you through Crystal.
Lovely pictures, always!!!! You are such an inspiring person! Hope the remodel is going well.
Take good care.

April - oh bubbles rock…the best fun ever…
I vote buy the “camper”
have a happy day

traci - yeah, maybe they tricked out the inside of the bus. the geese are so cute, but you are right, they are mean. love the picture of talby and the bubble – very cute.

carissa - adorable… for sure!
you’d be styling in the green BUS!
that bubble shot… killer awesome!
lol!

Adla - Never seen a green camper in my life…cool!
What fun playing with bubbles !
cheers, Adla

mallory Heffron - I love the picture of your little girl with the bubble, you should enter that in a contest, it is that good.
Did you buy the big GREEN bus????LOL

Jennifer P. - I think that would look totally classy parked in front of your house! Then you could train your kids to sing and go on tour in it :)!
So neat to watch the progression of your bathroom. Funny how those workmen get to be like old friends! And I promise that if you feed them, they work faster and stay longer :)!

jeanetta - i totally want that camper! its my shade of green. it would just blend into the scenery dont ya think.

Lorelei - I think you should totally buy that camper. I don’t think the neighbors would mind at all! I can see it now…
Neighbor, looking out window on saturday morning: ahhhh what a nice da…WTF IS THAT GREEN BUS DOING ON THE STREET?
:o) giggle…

floors and walls

the craft room (soon-to-be-bathroom) has this little window
that looked into my closet before.
i wonder what it was for??
here is a shot from last week when the boys demo-ed the plaster in the closet…

Img_1352_2

and the same shot today
after craig knocked down a wall on monday.

Img_1812_2

Img_1811_2

and a new closet is framed out
same size as before just 4 feet into the bedroom now….

Img_1886_2

and there is a wall between the bathroom and craft room…

Img_1818_2

it’s moving right along.
annie and i are getting very used to bernie, darrell, troy, clyde & terry
at the house everyday.
i think we’ll bake them some cookies this afternoon.

traci - it’s moving right along. thanks for updating us on the project.

chris - Looks like fun , to make new spaces, I am looking forward to my deck as a new room as you said.
Is the door on the left of your closet the door to the bathroom as well as access to the craft room ?
I have got to try that shells recipe soon.
have fun baking .

Leslie - Was your craft room originally a porch? Closets in old houses very frequently had windows in them. This was because people didn’t wash their clothes very often before the invention of washing machines. So they would leave the windows open in the closets to air out the clothes. So maybe your window originally opened to the outside when the house was built? Just a guess, but kind of makes sense. Can’t wait to see the finished product! Love the updates!

Joni - Wow…looks like a lot of work. BTW…I linked you from my page today because I used your stuffed shell recipe…AGAIN. Love it. Thanks for being so creative!

Lanny Stanard - Hurry up and get that room done I want to see it LOL…
~Lanny…

Crystal - Why oh why is it is mothers instinct to catch vomit in our hands? Doesn’t that seem cruel to you? I guess it beats cleaning it out of the carpet?!
I gained 55lbs with Moses and was 10lbs away from being a 2 bucker. yikes!

mom - Thanks for the update. It was hard to imagine that second bathroom space. Now I get it! And the craft room will still be big enough. GREAT JOB.

traci - HOW EXCITING!!! Would love to know what that little window was for???

craving

Img_1807_2

can you tell that i am trying to eat better?
i can.
because this is ALL i can think about!

chocolate….i love you.

Joni - Not fair to do to a pregnant woman. I think I’ll bake myself a batch today. I might even be willing to share with my daughter. If she’s lucky! 😉

meg duerksen - jill you are so right!
the frosting at the grocery store cupcakes is disgusting.
i wish i had a cupcake right now!
maybe just some more coffee will work.
so yeah…i’m trying out the oprah/bob green way of “no food after dinner” tactic.
i’ll let you know how that goes.
🙂

Jill (One Wired Woman) - You know… there is nothing like a HOMEMADE cupcake. It just takes you back in time, doesn’t it? I will not, I repeat, will not eat a storebought cupcake. Gag me with a spoon! You gotta have the old school cupcake with a gi-normous glass of ice cold “whole” milk!! Come to Mama! That’s what I’m talkin’ about… 🙂 ~Jill

Liz - Oh, you’re in good company sister! I’ve been trying my best to work out everyday and only eat sweets on the weekend. TCBY is CALLING my name every night around 9:00. 🙂

traci - they look scrumptious. i don’t make evil things like that because i would eat them all in no time flat.

Bri - Hey… I’m Kristin Neufeld Epp’s sister-in-law..
I peek in to your blog a lot (I love it) and am curious if you could tell me what kind of camera you use? Your pictures are great.

Gini - Great photo…..even better, cupcakes!!!!!! Mmmm…

Allikayes Mama - Gee..thanks…now I’m craving chocolate cupcakes!

mallory Heffron - Did someone say eat…..I could eat everyone of those cupcakes..can you share?

Liz - Same thing happens to me. I go on a diet and I crave Mars bars. And I don’t even like them.

mom - Ooohh..chocolate; …ohh..starbucks; maybe someday I can have these again. But the diet is going well. Hope you can stick to your eating healthy!

cynthia - never fails…
the more i try not to eat stuff like that, the more i want it! BAD!

meg duerksen - jenn –
these are already long gone!
i made them on sunday and they were gone by monday.
and i confess…i had 3.
or was it 4?
no yummy treats last long around here.

Jenn - mmmmmmm…………..I will be down – save me one. Jenn

Lanny Stanard - Glad to see you today and I also love the 365 pictures!
~Lanny

80 degrees

Img_1431_2

what better way to start the morning
then with a chandelier on the doorstep?
it could be the best surprise ever.
thank you diana! i was beaming all morning.
i can’t wait to see it in my new bathroom!

the perfect morning turned into a very good day.
to enjoy the 80 degree weather annie and i took to the town.
we walked with the stroller…
(although it was empty the entire time but the first 4 blocks)
we were out for almost 4 hours!
we paid some bills at the county building & some other errands.
we shopped for gifts.
we stopped and looked at everything annie wanted to see.

Img_1440_2

froo-froo coffee….yum.

Img_1469_2

Img_1466

a stop at the park

Img_1479_2

a peek at the old train

Img_1446_2

we searched for A’s all over town.
which she shouted “A for annie!” to each one.

Img_1487_2

you know we have to stop for this.
hmmm….where could i put a huge lamp with a fuzzy red velvet shade?
i don’t think there is any place for that lamp.

Img_1485_2

Img_1488_2

and waiting on a train…again.
this rock must be here just to sit and wait.

i was determined to be in the moment with annie.
we were both so happy to be together.
until the very end.
2 blocks from home annie looks up at me and nonchalantly says
“you not my best fwriend anymore mama”
she was exhausted on those little stubborn “i-can-walk-myself” legs.
a nap came very easy.

melissa @ the inspired room - You captured the day in perfect detail. What sweet memories these will bring someday! She is such a doll. Love those little feet on the swing!
Happy Tuesday night!
xo

emily loria - I love downtowns, even better when they have hidden treasures.
Your swing pictures are divine!

Liz - Sounds like you two had a super day with great photographs capturing all the best bits.

carissa - what a day with mom. memories like that are the ones they hold close!
chandelier… LOVE! that will look great in your new bath digs!

Jill (One Wired Woman) - Okay… Jillism #459. I posted twice thinking I failed the “word verification” test, only to realize that my posts were showing up at the top, not the bottom. Sorry Meg… I’m just hogging up your comment area. Just delete any duplicates for me. 🙂 ~Jill

Jill (One Wired Woman) - I need that froo froo coffee right now! Great pics, Meg. I’m in the mood to go antiquing. That bathroom chandelier rocks!! ~Jill

traci - what a wonderful day for you and annie. there are times when i miss living in town and this is one of them. i love that you can walk all over town and pay your bills and stop for coffee never once getting in your car. i kind of miss that. cute pictures too!

Mamazboyz - I love the pic of Annie and her coffee/looks like an ice cream drink!! AND the picture of her little piggies showing!! I loved the Pics of the boys with the KU shaved in their heads…Where do you live in Kansas? I lived in Kansas City for 15 years/Mission Hills off of the plaza for 5 yrs…Kansas City is one of the best places on earth!! We miss it a ton!

Jennifer P. - Precious, precious every bit of it. I’m sure tired or not, the memories of a mom who loves you stick with you. Good job!

Mallory Heffron - The chandelier is beautiful….Can’t wait to see where you put it. I love the picture of your little girl swinging and all you see is her feet….Thanks a bunch for sharing the paint info.. I just love when people share their wonderful finds and that paint color is wonderful

Allikayes Mama - You inspire me to take pictures of the everyday things! i love that! Don’t worry – you are a mom that will always be those kids best friends!!

Sara - i want to see the picture of YOU taking the picture of Annie under the swing. ha ha. I missed you last weekend…but i had fun with your big sister…

MelodyA. - What a fun day. I think I’d find a place for that red lamp. It’s very spunky. And you’ll have to post a picture of that chandelier up.
Thanks for commenting at my “house”. I’ll be back to visit you here.

traci - a chandelier on my frontsteps would make me VERY HAPPY too!!! Just the thought of it in your bathroom makes me want to see the finished bath NOW..lol
I just LOVE the pic of annie swinging high in the swing!!!!! I literally laughed outloud…again, I would frame it…just sooooooooo sweet.
And lastly I personally think with some tlc I could definately find a place for that lamp with the red, fuzzy lampshade!!!! I would paint the base white and I think it would be PERFECT…how much did they want for it anyhow?
