mouths of babes

yesterday as we walked home from the park there was a robin who couldn’t fly.
he was speed walking away from talby and annie who were in hot pursuit.
then the bird stopped at the curb and talby shouted
“He’s looking both ways for cars!”

while planting flowers i found a big fat beetle.
i showed it to annie.
it was on it’s back and it’s legs were waving like crazy to try to flip over.
annie says “He needs a diaper change!”

i told the kids that i was tossing worms i’d found in the dirt to a robin that was sneaking around me.
it would wait till i turned my head and run in and grab the worm.
seans thinks awhile and then says
“if i were a worm . . . i would HATE my life!”

sean is usually thinking about other things when the rest of us are talking.
dinner at our house is always loud.
the entire meal is spent passing & passing again & then cleaning up the milk that spilled or the whole jar of applesauce that spilled out when a 5 year old tried to pour it.
every night.
but it’s family time.
someday they will know what they are doing and maybe a meal will go smoothly.
maybe.
anyway . . . back to sean being in his own world.
each of these comments were out of the blue having nothing to do with any conversation.
moday night dinner as soon as craig said “amen” sean says
“ladybugs have a very bad smell on their legs that makes birds not want to eat them”
then later “what’s your middle name?”
little later “you should really play 20 questions sometime”
and then “i wish i was a chameleon – they have horns to push animals in a fight.”
ending his meal he says “i know how to make a really big snowman”

that was almost all he said during the meal.
no other small talk.
just statements.
he is deep thinker.
Mypictureiphoto has a photo booth feature.
the kids have taken 734 picture of themselves since january.
it has lots of special effects that they love to use.
here is one i found of sean.
fitting.

bad mood

i am trying everything to get out of this bad mood.
there is no real reason for it . . . logically.
craig is gone but that’s just life. i am happy for him to be with friends and golf.
the house is a mess but the craft room is almost clean!
the laundry is piling up again and the dishes are overflowing in the sink.
i haven’t slept well the past two nights.
but these things normally do not bother me.
which makes me feel that this mood is definitely hormone related.
so i am trying all my favorite things to help me beat the mood i am in.
the ice cream helped ALOT!

kristin - i couldn’t stand not to comment: you have the right ideas…i have another friend who said she watched movies on her laptop while taking a bath…if i could find the time to do without kids, that would improve my mood…hormones ARE powerful things!!!

pretty

Img_1661_2this is in our small tree in the front flower bed.
lauren spotted it a week or so ago.
the kids have a bucket leaned up onto the tree so they can look inside.
so i peeked in too.
what a beautiful color.
so unique.
the perfect blue.
a sweet little trio.
life about to begin.
i heard that when sean peeked in and saw the eggs he picked them up!
but he had never seen a bird’s nest so why would he know not to do that.
now he and talby talk all the time about human scent.
too cute.

wanted to show lauren’s art . . . i can’t remember why she made this though. she just brought it down one morning to take to school. she had made it in her room out of cardboard and crayons (when she was supposed to be sleeping). she put a real dog collar on it and what you can’t see is tucked inside the collar behind the dog is a little stuffed dog that makes barking sounds. she thought that was genius. it was very impressive.
and so familiar . . . thinking of making something and staying up till you finish just because you feel you must do it! it’s the creativity that is inside her just begging to be used. have to encourage it . . . even if it happens at 11:30 PM.
but admittingly not a great photo and she wasn’t thrilled to have a picture taken.

my 2 little girls are so cute but man . . . their fighting is getting bad! they want the same toy all the time. annie screams at the top of her lungs about everything. talby isn’t wanting to share. this morning talby had burst into tears throwing herself on the couch 3 times before 8:30. the drama!

so . . . i am on edge.

maybe getting dressed and/or showering would help. 🙂

We had a Saturday on the calendar with nothing on it!
it rocked.
i slept in.
we worked in the yard.
i am so ready to plant flowers!
craig took the kids on a bike ride in the afternoon.
annie took a nap.
i sat on a blanket in the yard and read my magazines that has been waiting for me the past few days drinking iced coffee.
it was just so sunny and wonderful.

we called craig’s aunt and uncle and asked if we could come over for dinner.
we are so rude.
they said yes (what could they say? ha)
so we headed to the farm for the evening.
we couldn’t have had a better night.
just beautiful.

gary and janet have pigs.
lots and lots of pigs.
we were lucky to get to see baby pigs that were only hours old.
they are the cutest.
annie was nervous but everyone else was right in there trying to grab one.
wow! pigs are loud.
i think the squealing is what made annie nervous.
later she said “pigs were cryin’. they say put me down! put me down!”
some were so tiny i could have put one in sean’s pocket but he wouldn’t let me try.

the tractors
the combine
four wheeler
playing frisbee
hunting for bugs
the new cows
kitties running all around
the swings made from old tires
burgers and chocolate cake
the sunset

so comfortable.
so lovely.

i am emotional thinking about it and that seems silly.
(craig will say that it is)
i just love to see the kids love everything around them.
love to see them discover.
feeling free and learning.
gary and janet are so kind and patient with our kids.
teaching them new things without judgement (city kids)

the views from their yard are gorgeous.
like a painting.
kansas IS beautiful.

okay. . . you get it!
i loved it.
and love them.

today i began clearing out the craft room.
it suddenly looked like a place they would put on an oprah show titled “houses gone bad” and she’d say “When did you just give up? how can you live that way?”
not clearing the crafty stuff (mostly) but stacks of everything else that had no place the past two years.
it will soon be empty.
the Etc. shop will be so happy.

one more till may.
holy cow.
