monday….very farmy.

well…my day started with a looong run by myself.
i waited in my car for my friends but realized they were not coming…so i went alone.
and since i was supposed to be going with them i didn't bring my ipod.
so i ran without music….that is crazy talk!!
but i did the 6 miles without stopping and felt great.
interesting.
no music or friends and i still did it.
cool.

i came to the craft house to do some prep work.
and look what came in the mail….
IMG_1445-1
my new favorite shirt.  :)
yep.
i bought that.

the bold banana has a bunch of really funny shirts but this was my favorite.

IMG_1451-2
i cut fabric for a couple hours getting ready to make a TON of bunting.
for my shop.
that who-knows-WHEN-it-will-actually-open-but-it-will someday-i-promise.

i had music cranked and all the sunshining in….it was a really nice afternoon alone.

later in the afternoon talby yelled "MOM!!! THAT BIRD JUST HIT THE WINDOW!!"

IMG_1473-3
it was quite stunned.
it just sat there.
i opened our door and we were just looking at each other.
IMG_1482-4
of course waffle was going NUTS over this bird just sitting there.
barking and barking and barking.

IMG_1486-1
i have never seen a bird that close up…like a tiny bird.
i have seen the chickens.
but not a bird like this.
IMG_1488-5
that beak looks too pointy for me.

i told talby "lets leave it alone now and it will probably get its wits and fly off pretty soon."

then i stood up and said "was that a goat?"
and it was.

the neighbors have two goats!

IMG_1493-6

IMG_1541-12

and how is this for a totally weird creepy picture…..

IMG_1539-1

HA HA HA!!

i don't always look through my camera to take pictures so this was a shot taken down by my hip.
quite a surprise when that popped up on the screen.
so funny.
i think his bottom teeth are straighter than mine!

IMG_1496-7
then talby wanted to show me the neighbor's new kitties.
pretty cute.
but not tempting to me at all.

then THIS little lady came bouncing outside….

IMG_1525-8

and i was immediately in love.
completely.

IMG_1522-1

IMG_1534-10
her name is Sue.

i wanted to kiss her.
and take her home.
IMG_1526-9

IMG_1537-11

and i wasn't the only one….

also not pictured…turtles were found and held and played with.
and wild turkeys in the road.

the bird that hit the window did indeed fly away.
probably will never be quite the same but it's alive.

it was just a farmy night.

i like those kind.

ok…i have till thursday at noon to finish up that floor in the gray bedroom.
hmmm.
we will see if i can do it.
then we are on full summer break.
we started a rough draft of the summer list last night….. we don't have the big chalkboard at this house.
we will have to get creative.

Crystal - Just a crazy question…do you worry about your speed? I think I could run the 6 miles if I didn’t worry about being too slow. I am so not fast!!!

got2havefaith - I want a goat. My neighbors would FLIP OUT!

Michelle - We started the summer list last year and put it in wordle. It’s not a big centerpiece like your chalkboard was, but I let each kid design their own and they have their own personal one to cross off as we move through the season. Have you tried wordle? You can make it colorful with a fun font, different sizes, etc. so I think you would like it! (www.wordle.net) Give it a shot and see what you think.
BTW, I LOVE our summer list and can’t imagine how we ever summered without it!! 🙂

Carrie - goat teeth are freaky!!! so the move to farm seems like a great decision!! although I love the craft house, the style of it..everything :), the memories you will make at the farm house are amazing!! I’m jealous!! we live in the country kinda..but this just seems awesome!!!

Tracey Husted - Oh my gosh, I’ve gotta stop reading your blog while I’m at work. I saw the picture of the goat’s teeth and burst out laughing really loud. The office was dead silent…Oops! That just made my day!

Michelle Whitlow - ok, that pic of the goat teeth totally had me laughing out loud!!! hehehe!!!

Suzette - Birds, and goats, and puppies, oh my! And kitties too…I want to move on with you! Fun, amazing photos! Check out Lisa Leonard’s canvas summer list-cute and fun!

Jamie - that puppy is to die for…black labs are the CUTEST puppies! But kittens…no temptation, I’m right there with you on that one!

elisa - Oh that goat- so funny!! And you need that pup- LOVE. Take her home and I will send you a polka dot collar 🙂

Heather R. - I laughed at the goat pic…too funny. I like naps, too.

Michelle From Australia - I LOVE the reflection of you in Annie’s glasses
and…The bunting!! My daughter is having a 9th birthday party in June. It is a rainbow party. WONDER WHERE ON EARTH HER MUM GOT THAT INSPIRATION…..whatever 🙂 Anyway, it is a shame that gorgeous bunting won’t be in your etsy shop in time for me to try and buy some and have it wing its way to Australia for the party 🙁
If only we weren’t at the other end of the planet…..

Carla - I really enjoyed this post. I know your blog has taken new exciting direction for you and I’m very happy for you that it has but its lovely to read a chatty/newsy post like that, which is not selling or advertising anything. More of the same please 🙂

Diane - Fun post! I literally laughed outloud at the smiling goat! Priceless.

Saks2Salvation - Such an inspirational post and the pics are amazing! My best picture of a TX longhorn was taken by my hip as well so great shot on that one. Did I miss something…where can I get that “I love naps” shirt??

AliG - Our house likes Sue’s collar!

Erin - Sue is cute! And she looks super in K-State purple!

amy jupin - i agree, that puppers is adorable.
too bad they grow up and get bad breath.
🙂
that goat pic makes me giggle!!!

amanda d - Those pictures are great … but the goat, oh my goodness, made me laugh!

betsy - LOVING the very farmy post … all those animals made me “awwwww” while scrolling down!
That pic you took from your hip of Annie with Sue is FAN-TAS-TIC! I love that you can see yourself in her shades 🙂
Also, how lucky do I feel that I already have some of your bunting! I can’t wait to hang it from my classroom ceiling again in August! Thanks, Meg!

Stephanie - Love the photo of your summer list from last year, can’t wait to see this years! Can you tell me how you made the collage photos you used and where you had them printed? Thanks a bunch!!

Maria Proctor - I have wanted a bunting from you since your first craft weekend post! I know plenty of people sell them on etsy, but no one gets the color combos and prints quite to my liking like you do, so I hope I can nab one when they come available!

April R - inspiring! as ever 🙂 thank u 🙂
we did a summer list for the first time last year (after I saw yours) and we loved it!
started 2012 this week!

Debby - I think that is a baby yellow-billed cuckoo. An adult ran into our window and died. So sad!! They usually are not hard to see as they keep hidden in the woods and brush. I’m so glad yours survived. We have these “leaves” on our windows that are supposed to keep birds from flying into them, but they don’t work real well. Birds hit our windows all the time!

Sara Torbett - This was a very farmy post, indeed. 🙂 Loved your pics! I also saw the idea for writing/painting a Summer List on canvas on Lisa Leonard’s blog you might check out! We will have to get started on ours..we have a one year old this summer so things will be new and fun! 🙂

Suzanne - Haha – those goats are cute and creepy all at the same time! I am dying to see your floor!!!

Jenni - How about window markers or a giant piece of butcher paper creatively hung for your summer list?

julia - Last year I was trying to convince my 5 year old to take a nap. She told me that nobody she knows takes naps and she didn’t want to take one. I then told her “but I take naps”. She was quiet for a few seconds and then she said “but you CHOOSE to take a nap.” So I guess the rule is that naps are okay, as long as you don’t HAVE to take one. (I did tell her, too bad she was going to take one anyway).

Robin - Loved the “I like naps” tshirt. Ordered one for my Dad for Father’s Day. I’m starting my 2012 Summer List today!!!!

Jacci in Ohio - Well… We don’t have a massive green chalkboard, either 😉 And last year our summer list was useful,
But not necessarily as pretty as it could be. This year I’m making a paper garland.
All scrappy looking. And colorful. I have plain teal rectangles for writing our actual items on. I think
I’ll put a clothes pin on top of each item paper and remove it as we do that item. That was we can easily
see what we still have left to do. We’ll just look for clothes pins. Anyway, it’s cute in my brain. Hopefully, it
Will be cute in my kitchen, too!

Dani - I did a summer list for the first time this year! I saw a summer bucket list on pinterest. I did a search on there for summer list and yours was EVERYWHERE! I loved it! I was such a dork… I was like “HEY! I know her! I’ve seen that list!” HA! Ok so I don’t really KNOW you, but I feel like I do….

Beth K. - Heard about a neat idea for “summer bucket list” – we try to do one every summer, but this is a new idea that I like. Get a plastic sand pail and clothes pins – put the ideas on the clothes pins and then have them on the rim of the pail (sticking up). Then when you do something on a pin you take it off of the rim and throw it in the bucket. By the end of the summer your pail should be full. 🙂 Love your pics!

Rachel J - Baby kitties, not tempting to me either. Baby puppys, I’ll take two. 🙂 Loving your new found farmy posts 🙂 Happy Tuesday Megalicious!

Holly - Love it! I was just thinking about the summer list. I also dont always look through my camera when taking photos. You get some of the best shots that way! 😉

Mandy - that first picture of the bird is stunning! Love it!
http://dailiydoseoframblings.blogspot.com

Heather F. - That grey kitten looks exactly like one of my cats (now 5 years old) when he was a kitten. I actually gasped when I saw that photo. Your post brought back such great memories. Thank you. I’m going to show my kids when they get home.

Seriously Sassy Mama - A bird totally hit our back window the other day when I was packing. It scared the crap out of me. Unfortunately, we found the bird later that evening dead on our girls little pool. Poor bird. My husband wants to get a goat for our backyard since it is so huge. Funny man, we live in the burbs.

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - I feel like the Green Acres theme song should be playing while I read your blog 🙂 Love your farmy life and that you are turning into a farmy wife…HA. Sorry I couldn’t resist. I didn’t sleep enough last night. Have a great day Meg!

Jill - Oh how I love your days <3 They rejuvenate me.
My youngest and I found a baby bunny yesterday and enjoyed it for a bit. We were keeping it until the older 3 got home and then going to transfer it to the local nature center because our neighbors dog well... he likes them a little too much and being a Jack Russel, he's about as fast as one as well.
Unfortunately she hopped away and unlike the neighbors dog, I am NOT as fast as a baby bunny...
By the way - you are AWESOME at taking pics when not even looking through the lens. Two of those that you posted - they are perfection!

christy - I am sure you read Lisa’s blog yesterday, but I loved her version of the summer to do list, water colors on a canvas! LOVE!
I so enjoy hearing about life on the farm. Brings back memories of my summers in MO. Enjoy!

BriBedell - Love the goat picture…hilarious!! I love all the types of animals you guys get to see now!! GREEN ACRES IS THE PLACE TO BE, FARM LIVING IS THE LIFE FOR MEEEEE! My grandma use to watch that show non stop…lol

Terrie G - I want to take Sue home…especially since she’s a K-State (imagine that bold & in italics!) dog!
She’d fit in just great in our family!!! 🙂

it was a crafty day.

i forgot about the sleeping in part of spring break!
woo-hoo!
i LOVE sleeping in.
especially on these rainy days.

i ran at the gym….i got there and the tvs were being replaced!!!
running in front of a mirror for an hour?
i almost left.
it sounded AWFUL to me.
then the dude next to me left and he was on the only treadmill that has it's own tv.
i assumed it wasn't working since he wasn't watching.
i took a quick bathroom break at mile 2 and then checked that treadmill….it worked!
so i got to watch old grey's anatomy on lifetime for my last 3 miles.
i am glad i did not leave.

IMG_8225-1

i promised my girls a craft when i got home.
we couldn't agree on one so we did a few different things.

IMG_8226-2

annie and i made winter cardinal art from deepspacesparkle.com.
i was in a painting mood.

IMG_8247-8  IMG_8248-9
annie's cardinal.                                                             mommy's cardinal.

talby made a princess and the pea picture and painted the turtle shell!

IMG_8251-10  IMG_8222-1

later that night…i met some of my friends over at the craft house for a little paint party.
IMG_8235-4

IMG_8240-5
girls night out is getting pretty wild!!
look out…we are party animals!
IMG_8244-7
we watched The Help and ate cheesecake and painted chairs.
such good friends.
they are helpful and funny and GREAT painters!

IMG_8242-1

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!

:)

DON"T FORGET ABOUT WORLD WATER DAY.
its coming up on thursday.
go get signed up to use your blog or facebook or twitter right HERE.

we need you.

let's do it together.

Water3

join us here to be ready on thursday!

jenni - I really really want to be your friend! Dang girl, you have a craft house! Why oh why do you live on another continent?

Susan - Love the chairs – what type paint do you use?

Dana - I love when I haven’t been able to read your blog for a few days then I see a pin on pinterest from your blog (the chairs) and I think “ohhh Meg is up to something new…better go check out what I have missed!”

Heidi Jo the Artist - Now, that is a bed Talby! So cool. Love the painted turtle shell too. My kids love to paint rocks. 🙂

Johanna - LOVE those chairs—I have some I need to paint. It looks like you did not prime them? Think it’s necessary? What about sanding? The thought of sanding all the rungs is keeping me from starting i think!!! 🙂

Amy - I would love to borrow your girls and have a craft day. I have one son and he doesn’t like to craft or paint. I could craft all day, every day. Good luck in your new home. I live in the country on a farm and love it. Very peaceful and calm out here.

Kristin S - Meg, I’ve wanted to make this cheesecake but I don’t know what a “small tub” of sour cream is. 4 oz? 8 oz? I buy the ones at Sam’s so do you know the ounces/cups on that one?
Thanks.

Carrie - I have been reading your blog for quite awhile now. When life is busy I skim the title of the other blogs I follow, but read yours through. I just love to read it. I have 5 kids 15-4 and I open enroll them to a school in a neighboring district and drive them to school – the morning bus is too early for us this year. Our pick up is in a church parking lot. Looks a lot like yours. I had to laugh when I saw you drive a white suburban… me too. Also smiled when you talked about your inner homeschool mom. I have that too. I was jealous when you found a house – we’ve been looking for 3 years! I started running last spring… but I was really hung up on keeping on running (not walking) and pace, tried to train for a half marathon and made it to 8 miles but fizzled out by fall. Should have taken it slower. You inspire me to take it up again. Keep keepin’ it real!

andrea - Annie’s cardinal looks just like the one that thinks he is in charge of my bird feeders! He is one fierce little bird.
Love, love, love Talby’s painted turtle shell. Turtles are my favorite animal. Would never have thought to paint it.

Krissy - I LOVE your chairs!! They are so happy!!!

Katie - okay, seriously? those painted chairs are enough to make my heart stop. soooo adorable!
i feel your treadmill pain. i use the one that my in-laws have in their (unfinished) basement, so i’m staring at piles of junk the whole time. makes me want to scream sometimes… but then i’m thankful for the free workout : )

Prairie Jenn - Deep Space Sparkle makes me happy:)
Lots of art inspiration there!
Love the rainbow chairs…I want to do the same in my craft room if we ever get finished remodeling!

Laine - Ooooo….can I come paint in exchange for cheesecake?? =) Love the colors, what are the names? With all my squinting I still couldn’t make them all out, lol!

Jennifer@beautyinbloom - Oh my stars. It would be a dream come true for me to have a chair painting party. You have no idea 🙂

Holly - I need to get some friends over to help me work on my painting projects! hmmmm….:)

Lori Austin - I would totally paint chairs for cheesecake! 😉

Dani - The chairs look amazing! I love all the bright colors. Y’all are so talented! The cardinals were beautiful.

Mandy - I totally have that sea blue/green color from Walmart sitting on a white antique desk that I bought for a steal on Craigslist! I have yet to paint it!! Would love to see your finished product with that color paint!
http://dailydoseoframblings.blogspot.com

Bernice - Love the colours you chose for the chairs! And your choice of entertainment and dessert
Sounds like it was a fabulous time.

Marianne - Gorgeous chairs! Aww, now I want my own craft house too… 🙂

Leslie @topofthepage - i missed that cardinal one on deep space sparkle. i love that website. i want to do that. love birdies. and that cheesecake is the best ever. made it a few times now. once being in my grandma’s million year old kitchen in rural oklahoma. i’m not sure she even knew what a springform pan was. but it worked fine in a pyrex 9×13, though a bit painful to look at.

Sarah Wolfe - What a great idea! This is going to be such a lovely room. Your paint colors are so great. Wish I could include a little pink in my school room chairs, but I don’t think the boys would appreciate 🙂

Sara Torbett - Love the turtle shell 🙂 and the pretty chairs too. Cheesecake sounds delish with some strong black coffee. Yummy! Glad Grey’s came to the rescue for you today 🙂

AshleyAnn - That sounds like a perfect girl’s night in to me…and I really want some cheesecake!! Have fun at CW. I’ll miss you all!

Julie - I love Talby’s Princess and the Pea picture! And Annie is such a great artist!
And…those CHAIRS! They are gorgeous!!!

ko. s - So fun! I would love to paint chairs and eat cheesecake!

Kelly - Loving the colorful chairs!
And no…. Haven’t tried the recipe yet. Why is it that making cheesecake scares me so?!?
I’ve always just bought it. Hmmmmm…

Karen Estes - Where are you going to use those chairs? I love the colors on them and would love to do that in my kitchen but my husband thinks I’m crazy.

Becki - The chair idea is great! What a fun girl’s night!

whitney f - Oh, and I must not know how to find the winners for things you giveaway??? haha
Was the winner announced for the Girls Night out $100 gift card to Olive garden??

whitney f - Those chairs look amazing!!!!!! I need to do that!!!!

Tanya - I work at a 50+ rec centre with a conditioning room and there are NO T.V.’s!! But the peeps still come cause it’s c-h-e-a-p 😀
We did bingo dauber art today, easy and fun.
I love the cardinal paintings <3

The Frat Pack + Me - Now that is my kind of girls night out…except could I have a cookie instead? I think I am the only person on the planet that doesn’t enjoy cheesecake.

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Yes, girls night out does change as we get older, have hubbies and kiddies, but I wouldn’t change a thing, love that kind of night!

Patty Palmer - The cardinals and the sweet princess look divine! And I love your chairs….hmmm. My chairs are looking quite grey and boring!

tina - that cheesecake looks heavenly…ps peanut butter pie falls in to breakfast food at my house too 🙂

Pink and Green Mama MaryLea - ….except the blue ones in my dream were more of a bright turquoise blue!

Pink and Green Mama MaryLea - love the chairs — they look JUST like the ones in my dream from a few nights ago — too funny! : )

Happy girl - Those chairs are gorgeous and those friends are priceless. 🙂

mae - Love this post!!! Thank you for supporting World Water Day and using your voice for the good of others. You rock!

Lasso the Moon - our girls are so inspiring! I love that shot of the painting that only has the blue and red. Looks so graphic and cool!
Now I need to stop reading blogs and go make something with my own kids.
Anna

Seriously Sassy Mama - mmmm cheesecake!

Anita - I sent you an email but wasn’t sure how often you check it and I was trying to get the recipe for the blueberry buckle muffins. Can you post it or sent it to me.
Thanks,
Anita

Kim - I love that you have a craft house! And good friends close by. We moved about a year ago. Still working on the close friend bit. It’s coming, but it takes time. The chairs are looking great!

Jacci - AWESOMENESS 🙂 I’ve soooo missed watercolors and desserts since you’ve moved! ha ha.
I **love** the chairs. I should’ve known you were going to paint them. But, it just seemed like SO many chairs. How great that you have friends that are willing to come paint with you. I’m sure cheesecake bribery helps 🙂
And… you *know* you’re going to get a bazillion commenters asking for the scoop on your paint colors. You might as well add the color names at the bottom of the post! I know I already squinted really close to my monitor trying to read the tiny letters. ha ha.

Sheila P. - Your life just looks way more creative and relaxing than mine. I think I need to go buy some paint and make some friends! Oh, and make a cheesecake too. 🙂

fridays are awesome.

first off….i really wanted to go back to bed today.
bad.
my running clothes weren't clean.
i was tired.
it was cold.

but i went because my friends were waiting….thank goodness for them.
i would have slept my morning away otherwise.

60939401177841006_7GmYF0nQ_f

WE RAN SIX MILES.
with only one quick bathroom break at mcdonalds (thank you body that birthed five babies….)
it was hard.
but we did it!!!!!

31.5 out of 100 miles.
rad.

i went back and finished the baby doll quilt.
there was a commenter that said "she won't ask for a doll quilt for much longer….you can always make pillows."
that was the clencher.
IMG_7773-1

IMG_7786-3

IMG_7779-2

it is so precious.
i looooove it.
and so did annie.  :)

i came back to the farm house and there were a bunch of trucks and a huge fire!
IMG_7768-1

i guess today was the perfect day to tear down an old shed that was here at the farm.
it was pretty dangerous the way it was so it's probably good that it's gone.

IMG_7761-1

kind of exciting to get off the bus to a giant fire in your yard!!

yesterday i followed talby over on her second round of feeding the neighbor's chickens.

enjoy!

what are you doing this weekend?

i think we are doing some swimming,,,,some soccer…some volleyball…some basketball….
that sounds relaxing right?

not.

Sarah{Handbags*N*Pigtails} - Update: so I DID finish the little one’s doll quilt like I said I would. Check it out here:
http://www.handbagsnpigtails.com/2012/03/last-fall-when-i-made-my-first-quilt-as.html
Thanks for giving me the kick- in- the- pants(by posting what your commenter said) to get it done. She loves it!

christine ishmael - Guess what my 11 year old’s science project was on? What’s a chicken’s favorite color? We put out a set of trays in all the colors of the rainbow and fed the chickens each day at the same time with the trays in the same place…guess what their favorite color was? It was a great science project!

Alicia D - AWESOME job with your running!! Im up to 5.0 miles now. Training for a 10-miler. It will be the first time I’ve ever run that far in my life. Only been running for about 6 months. Its a love-hate 🙂

Kerry - I love hearing about your running. I’m 37 years old and took up running again a year ago, just 6 weeks after giving birth to my 4th baby via c-section. I hope you’re signed up for a race somewhere! Keep the updates coming .. and great job of six miles!!

northern cottage - ohhhh i LOVE the little doll quilt. know what would be cool – AFTER she’s done with the doll quilt – make THIS into a pillow for her or you (it will ALWAYS hold wonderful memories now!) it’s completely gorgeous with the colors and stitching and LOVE built right in!
keep on chugging rocking running mama!
xo – http://www.NorthernCottage.net

Stephanie campbell - Oh I want to raise chickens so badly…..

Helen Wall - Love that you took your banjo to accompanythe chicken feeding! Nice touch!

Lauren - love. that. quilt. sooo yummy! good for you on the run!

Sara Torbett - Six miles is major!
I echo the other ladies-I’m sitting here having a fit over that lovely white chippy paint wood…imagining all kinds of things to do with it. I hope you ran over and salvaged some before it was too late!
Doll quilt-precious. My favorite is the close-up of the square that says “peace always”. 🙂

Dani - Love the quilt! So bright and cheery!

tiffany gardner - Six Miles! I don’t think I could walk six miles! You rock!

Maria - Um, should have proofread first . . .
Instead of “get to the point where you can run for several weeks because of an injury.”
it should read, “. . . where you CAN’T run for several weeks.”
I need coffee! Ha ha. Happy weekend!

Maria - Hi! I just wanted to say that I love your blog. I stumbled across it a month or so ago, and I think it’s awesome. I love that you love the Lord, spend time with your kids, make awesome crafts, and you take some really great photos, too!
Just one thing I wanted to say about your running (you’re doing awesome, by the way!) — I’m not sure how long you’ve been running, but be careful about adding too many miles too soon! Trust me on this one, you don’t want to keep adding and adding miles until you get to the point where you can run for several weeks because of an injury. Been there, done that and it’s no fun! Blessings!

Kristin S - Love that quilt too! It is “so Annie” (from how she dresses anyway).
Commenter was right. Hey, maybe you can turn that quilt in to a pillow someday.
Coveting your farm life…

Tracie - I Love that you put the banjo music in the chicken video, so cute. Thanks for the running motivation!! I’m going.

Heather - This post came at just the right time. I settled down with my cuppa and had already decided to blow off this morning’s run (still have a little bit of a sinus infection, the house and my boys are so snuggly this morning, I stayed up too late last night, etc…). And there you are – out there when you don’t want to be. You got me out the door. Thank you!!! (and little boys don’t mind snuggling with a stinky sweaty mommy!)
And ko.s – you’ll get used to frosty east coast runs – you’ll even come to miss them in the heat of August!!

happygirl - We are going out to dinner to celebrate my husbands retirement. It’s going to be SO MUCH FUN, but not as healthy as running sex miles. Btw, getting over a horrible cough. I wasn’t so happy for the weak bladder. Just sayin’.

Carla Grace - Chippy painted wood…..I hope you grabbed some of it!! Aaaaack!!

christy - I love that comment & they were so right! The quilt is fantastic. I bet she will cherish it forever.
Okay, how long before you start raising chickens? 🙂 I have two, in suburbia and they are pretty entertaining & the eggs are GREAT! We have more than we need for our fam of 3 w/the 2 chicks we have. Warning though, THEY.EAT.EVERYTHING! I mean everything! My poor plants. The fact that they eat everything also means they poo everywhere. Ours run amuck so that is part of the prob.

Leah - I want chickens! And a farm. And the ability to run 1/4 of a mile.

Amy @ www.littleforalittlewhile.blogspot.com - Those chikens are sure serious about their bread! And that music you put along to it is the perfect touch. I can always count on your for a good smile 🙂

Susan - This was such a funny post b/c guess what?! I went back to bed after getting the kids off to school…I NEVER DO THAT! EVER!!! And I blew off Masters Swimming which i love soooo much and pay money ahead of time to do!!! But I just couldn’t do it and that’s okay. Spent the rest of the day (after the am nap!) making my son’s 12th birthday special. Tomorrow i’ll swim then spin and it will be ALL GOOD! Careful w/ your running…don’t increase your distance too fast or you’ll set yourself up for an injury…just sharing from my own personal experience…Love your blog.

Kim - Love the quilt and the chickens! This weekend? Hmmm…we just came back from our church group, the kids’ have play dates and a birthday party tomorrow, then off to Grandma’s as hubby and I head to a concert – Chris Tomlin – with fab friends, probably a few things on Sunday and then March break! Hooray for a week at home with the kids. So, so, so looking forward to it!

Heather - I am so lost! You have 2 houses check. One to live in and one to craft in? One you own one you rent one? I am so lost!

Terrie G - Oh the things I’d love to have my hubby make from that old wood!
Such a good mom!! Definitely good idea to choose the quilt!
You can always make pillows from the ‘good’ fabric! lol!!
Loved the quilt
My weekend…taxes, watching basketball and more taxes! Yeah…not!

Maria - Love the quilt! Something I hope to accomplish soon…
Our weekend (which started today with no school)…huge rummage sale for the scouts…soccer…bowling with the tiger cubs…sleepover…scout Sunday…an arrow of light cross over…and reception following that will make a happy end to my leader days…now I can just be a scout mom again…and a nap or two in there…I hope.

Darcie L. - Agree with Lanny Lou. That wood makes me want to come over and grab it! My husband now says, “Are you sure you don’t want to save this for crafting?” about almost everything. Even his passport holder. Sheesh…

shannon - Good thing it wasn’t your home!!!
I think that comment about Annie not asking for doll quilts for much longer would have made my mind up real quick too 🙂
Hope you get some time to yourself this weekend.

Robyn Farmer - Talby looks like such a big girl with those jeans 🙁

Marie - That doll quilt is precious. I should make one for my girls before they stop wanting one too. My 10 yr old has been asking for a doll bed for her AG doll. You are totally motivating me to run. It’s been 2 weeks since my last run cause I got sick and now I don’t want to anymore because it’ll be like starting all over again. UGH!!

ko. s - You have completely inspired me to get back into my running routine! We recently moved from San Diego to the East Coast and with that move I lost all motivation to run. The weather is just downright miserable! But you’ve motivated me….Thank you!

lorelei eurto - love the chickens. My mother raises chickens, and they are the best to photograph and video. This was nice to watch, thanks for sharing Meg!

Alisa - i am already at my kitchen table with my sewing machine and piles of fabric….i don’t know what will evolve, but i am looking forward to it! maybe everyone will leave me alone if i ignore them….but probably not. enjoy your weekend!

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Looks like Talby is enoying her new neighbors 😉 and as far as what I will be doing this weekend? My weekends are changing…I used to have 2 baseball players, 2 basketball players, 1 soccer player, 1 trumpet player, 1 Irish Dancer, 1 ballerina and 2 Girl Scouts so I relate to those busy weekends and now that mine aren’t so crazy I gotta say, I kinda miss it! I know, I know, we always want what we don’t have. I want to take a drive to the beach and get lunch tomorrow and believe me there was a time that a free Saturday wasn’t even on my radar. Happy weekend.

Sarah{Handbags*N*Pigtails} - Well you inspired me to finish the doll quilt I mentioned in your last post. I’m doing it this weekend.
Tonight I’m sitting here with my table full of teens. Its youth group night here at the house.
Weekends are always full of laundry and cleaning here since I cant seem to get a handle on it during the work week. And I’m sure we’ll do some relaxing with the girls. We haven’t done much of that since our own fire.
Have a lovely weekend!

Maria - Meg, I think you just came up with the next big thing in your Etsy shop, baby doll quilts! I know a little girl who would love a cople of them…let me know if you’d make and sell me a couple!

Heather S. - I feel ya! I do a boot camp class at 6 am Mon/Wed/Fri and if it weren’t for my friends waiting on me, I’d never make myself get out of bed and endure that torture for an hour. But afterward – I always feel so much stronger! What doesn’t kill ya……right?

Lisa - I love that you have neighbors that are friendly and let your kids come feed their chickens! Good neighbors are a blessing!

seriously sassy mama - Class, work, packing, laundry, and hopefully some time to head to our favorite catfish place for some yummy food!

mim - you can always turn it into a pillow when she is done using it as a blanket!!

Kirsten P - Annie’s doll quilt is beautiful!
I’m going to see Anne of Avonlea, a musical at the high school.
Also heading to the next state for a bridal shower – I bought her some beautiful high quality wooden spoons from http://www.whetstonewoodenware.com
My favorite spoons at the moment are the 13 inch Stir Fry Paddle and the Cookie Dough Paddle-perfect for stirring thick cookie doughs.
Congrats on getting closer to your running goal!

beth davis - Good call on the baby doll quilt. 🙂
Beth

Michelle From Australia - Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful doll quilt. LOVE it! I hope Annie treasures it.

amy jupin - where is the chicken painting? i want to see how it turned out!
and i loved seeing talby’s ginormous sparkly shoes in the video.
and hearing your voice.
made me miss kansas!

Lanny Lou - okay please tell me your going to do something cool with that barn wood/siding ?

thursday

IMG_7682-1
this is our bus stop now.
the driveway.
🙂

i like it.

IMG_7697-3

we've done a little painting.
annie made a landscape and i painted a picture of one of the neighbors chickens.

IMG_7704-4

IMG_7717-5

we made our yummy pumpkin waffles for dinner….annie's request.

IMG_7726-1

she cut some strawberries for me to serve on the side.

i am so glad strawberries are back that the store…and less than $3.99 a box!
finally.

IMG_7732-7

i took a day OFF from life yesterday.
i was feeling worn out.
i slept most of the day.
and i put my closet together….it's organized.

but today i woke up feeling good….ready for a fun day.
i met my friend to run and we did FIVE and a HALF miles!!!
for reals.
i am so proud of us.  :)

so on march 8 i am at 25.5 miles.
74.5 miles to go in march.
auuwww yeah.

i showered at my old house and then kimberlee came over to get crafty!
it's been awhile since i have made something just for fun.
it was time!

IMG_7742-4

IMG_7746-10

kimberlee made bunting and i decided to make a little quilt for annie's baby dolls.
she's been asking me for fabric and i have been hesitant to share….i mean…..it's the nice fabric!
so i thought i'd make one from all the little scraps.

IMG_7740-8

i announced several times while cutting and sewing "CUTEST QUILT EVER!!!"

ha!

IMG_7752-6

it was nice to spend the day with kimberlee.
at craft weekend we barely even get to have a conversation….we are both busy with all the happy crafters.
and she gets up up really early to cook breakfasts and goes to bed before i do.
we are on different schedules at CW.

i like getting to catch up again.
🙂

IMG_7755-12
i got the quilt put together and sewed fabric to the back….and thought "ohhh…it looks so cute like a pillow…"
hmmm.
not sure if annie will acutally get a baby blanket out of this deal or not.
i may get a REALLY cute pillow instead

yesterday i worked on the craft weekend SWAG post.
I hope you will come over and read it….there are LOTS of discounts for you!

IMG_7316-2

come over to the craft weekend blog…. and read about all the super fun sponsors!

Aimee - Hi Meg, can you tell me where you got the adorable rainbow letters on kid writing paper fabric? I want to make fun pillows for my boys’ playroom and that fabric would be perfect!

julie - So much goodness in each of these pictures!
But my favorite?
Kimberlee sewing. I love how crazy a year can be. How one day can change someone from being scared of a sewing machine, so a bunting making wizard.
That patchwork?
Love. Love. Love.

lindsey - It looks like you two had fun! Annie and I are recreating CW this weekend for some family members! We are going to make bunting too! It should be fun!

Lasso the Moon - I just want you to know that I’ve been totally inspired by your 100 miles thing. I got a jump-start on mine in NYC last weekend, and now I’m caught up with you. I’m calling it the “100-mile March”. Did I make that up or did I get that from you? Not sure.
Anyway, I’m glad to know I’m not the only one with a sonic cup in the kitchen. And that doll quilt! Cutest quilt ever. No doubt.
Anna

Tami - I can’t believe strawberries are that expensive. This will probably make you sick. I have been paying about $1.50 a box at our local flea market for the past 3 weeks. This week the guy marked them down to $1 and I bought 4 and he threw in the 5th. So less than $1. We love strawberries at our house too. I freeze them so we have them when they are not in season. Love your pictures of Annie.

Kim - I rode a bus my whole time in school. Some of my best memories! I say baby quilt, even though it would definitely make a cute pillow. Isn’t it nice just to make something for fun, for the sake of creativity? Way to go on the running! My little Canadian brain was impressed that you were running 5K a day, it took me a minute to realize that it was 5 MILES. Happy Weekend!

Lisa - Meg – I’d love if you could do a post about running. I’m a runner too — and I love when you talk about running, but you only give teeny snippets. I’d love to know when you started, what you like most about running, what you don’t like, do you have any goals (5k, marathon) what’s your pace.
Keep on keepin’ on!

Kerry - stunning blanket / pillow meg 🙂 Love the fabric with the handwriting on it! I really need to learn to sew. …. gah!
glad you took some time out – we SO need it as moms xx

Han - I really want to get back into quilting but I just don’t have the time – I’m supposed to be knitting a cardigan for my friend’s daughters birthday next month but I’ve just not got to it – it’s so not good! Need to get my priorities straight – I might have to save the wool and get her something else for her birthday and aim for her second birthday instead.

stephany - Thanks for letting the rest of us know that some of your days are duds, too.
I love that you got back in the game, for yourself, after you had a bad day.
That is my MO, too.
A day in bed never hurt anybody.
I went and bought some new fabric today…and found a globe at goodwill.
You can read about my thrift finds on my blog…I just started thrifting this week…I’m addicted.
I was inspired by your blog…your colors, your enthusiasm.
Thank you…

Kathryn - Where might I find some of the black and white “peace always” fabric? I like to find fabric with a Christian(ish) theme for making small wallhangings to go with people from our church who visit far away places. Usually not Africa. But usually a south American or Asian country.
Can I get it in at Charlotte’s??

Enroutetowandering.wordpress.com - I want that baby quilt… You are right. CUTEST QUILT EVER.

Mindy Harris - sissy needs a quilt for her dollies. open etsy back up? yes?

beth davis - #1 – So glad to see Kimberlee’s face. I was worried about her – she hasn’t posted for awhile and her last post was when she wasn’t feeling well. Whew – these mama hens … we worry!
#2 – I would, definitely, make the baby doll quilt into a baby doll quilt for your little girlie. She won’t request baby doll quilts forever – look at your Lauren — they grow too quickly. You will have years and years to make cute pillows for your house. 🙂
#3 – Glad you are settled into the ‘new’ old house. Your post about change and moving came at a good time for me. We are contemplating a move – not for a few years, but none-the-less … contemplating and we have lived in this city our entire lives. It would be a BIG deal to move, but your post was a good reminder to me … thank you.

maggie - absolutely love the quilt….and the YAY sign is to die for! You rock!

Jenny B. - My heart is just welling up with joy for you! It is so wonderful how everything has worked out with the houses. God is so good. 🙂

Heather | Cookie Mondays - I am obsessed with that tin of chocolate chips!
And my favorite ever quilt is the one I made for my girls dolls! 🙂

shannon - Love that little quilt you made but yea it would be even happier as a pillow for everyone to enjoy. How awesome is having the bus stop in the driveway!!!
I’m off to check out the craft swag 😉

Sarah Wolfe - What a fun quilt.. And fun to recognize all those fabrics 🙂 glad you and kimberlee got some girl time in!

the.mrs - LOVE seeing that someone else loves their big starbucks cup! Now if only they would sell the straws in the stores instead of online for $4 with $6 shipping.

Kimberlee Jost - The bunting is all hanging and happy.
Spending the day with you was just what I needed.
Love you!

janet @ ordinary mom - We live out where our bus stop is the end of the drive too. BEST THING EVER!
o.k. that’s all. 😉

Anna Marie - I was on the phone with my sister a few hours ago and said that EXACT same thing about strawberries! Funny :o)

Christina - I’m not sure how I first found your blog, but I love reading it! I know your love of Africa and I know so many people follow you, so I was hoping you would watch this video and share! http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DY4MnpzG5Sqc%26sns%3Dfb&sns=fb&v=Y4MnpzG5Sqc&gl=US

Kelly - Gotta love the end of the driveway bus stop!! This is something I take for granted, but shouldn’t.
I think the baby doll can find another blankie. This has pillow written all over it!
The pumpkin waffles look good… I’ll have to check out the recipe. My kids like anything with chocolate chips.
Glad you got some craft time and quality time with your friend! Always good for the soul.

jen - you have so inspired me to get back into sewing that i went ahead and ordered loads of fabric from hawthorns, tonic living & fabric.com!!! {i think my husband spied it the other day but has yet to say anything!} i just need to get some white aprons and i’m going to make my mom, sisters & me + my kids some aprons for our summer celebration! plus some totes and bunting. but i would love to know how you made that quilt! so darling……i wish i had a place to escape to to sew – i take over the kitchen table!
happy thursday! always inspired!

Sarah{Handbags*N*Pigtails} - There’s nothing like quiet girl/crafting time. I’m aching for some right about now. School has been stressful and I need to create!
I started a doll quilt(with some bright Kaffe Fassett fabrics) back at Christmastime with the intention of making it for my 6 yr old. I got the rows pieced together and then I got distracted. And so it sits, in the sewing room, still unfinished. {Picture me hanging my head in shame} One of these days…

Katy @ Live Laugh Love Craft - That YAY banner keeps haunting me!! It is so gorgeous. Today I walked into my work (Fabric store) and we got in (are you sitting down??) FIFTY yards of burlap!! Oh yes.. Now I have no excuse NOT to make the YAY banner. 🙂
Off I go to the Craft Weekend blog.

Elizabeth - what a great quilt! I love all the pretty fabric!! it is so happy and would make a cute pillow. I think you might have to keep it, or…send it my way! hehe 😉 oh and you are rocking the ‘rock your body in march!’ great job!!

IMG_6813-15
Lindsey wins the prize for finishing hers way before anyone else…quite a bit before midnight even!!

IT'S ADORABLE!!!

ok…the entire house is asleep except me.

guess i better get on that.

good night.

Kim - :As these different inneclfues came collectively, a distinctly Cuban taste and model developed, which is reminiscent of nation peasant kinds of cooking by oral custom and eye, rather than relying on distinct measurements and the development of dishes that tend towards the uncomplicated and hearty, and that can be left on their unique to simmer. Fussy, major sauces are abnormal and deep-frying is just not a favored cooking system. The island nation, by natural means, uses a wonderful deal of seafood in its cuisine, which encourages the use of effortless cooking strategies and spicing that is meant to boost, not smother, all-natural flavors.

Heidi Jo the Artist - Looks like you guys had another blast, rock on!!! Love looking at all that eye-candy. Your photos are the bomb! Love Jennifer’s butterfly shirt too!

farmhousemama - You are amazing! it looks like so much fun. I used to teach craft classes at my local community ed and loved every minute of it. I want to come sometime. Heck, I want to host one sometime at my house here in good ol South Dakota. You should patent the idea and sell me the rights to your secrets of a smooth cw. Looks like a blast!

Lindsay - Where is the fabric from that is on the pillow with the pom pom edging- the colored circles fabric? I am looking everywhere for new pillows and that is perfect.

ימי כיף לקבוצות - that’s cool! looks realy nice!

Jennifer - Any chance Kimberlee would share the recipe??? Sounds wonderful!

Heather G. - So fun!

Rachel - I love how women who don’t even know each other can come together, craft, and leave friends. This was a brilliant idea. Props to you! Can’t wait to see more of CW!!
Rachel
http://www.revolvingmarket.blogspot.com

Tracy Fisher - I love it. I can’t wait to go one day. I just need to make it happen. Have fun. Tracy Fisher

Katie - I LOVE this! I want to go to one! I love everything about your pictures – food, crafts, colors! : )

Dawn Eshnaur - I LOVE the pillow in your “pillow picture” with the rainbow poppies. Can you tell me where you got it?
Thanks!

Beth - Missed you ladies! Still feeling like poo-poo! Hope the rest of the weekend was bangarang!

Jennifer - I can’t wait to be chosen for Craft Weekend!!!!! It looks like a wonderful time!

jennyonthespot - Oh Meg… my heart is drooling 😉 xoxo

Thuy - Everything looks amazing!! I cant wait until its my turn! I actually had a dream I got a email that i was invited to come but then I woke up! Boo!! Loving all the pictures and cheerfulness!!!

Kimber-Leigh - sooooo fun. i love how colorful and happy everything always looks at CW!
i’m hoping my name gets pulled while i still live in close driving distance (only a few more months)!!!

Kimberly C. - I hope you guys have as much fun as we did just a few short weeks ago…..and I hope you get some sleep Meg 🙂 Wish I was there again….so.much.fun!

Katy @ Live Laugh Love Craft - Question.. How many people have requested an invite to go to CW? I’m just wondering what my chances are.. 🙂 Hope I don’t get picked too soon, though. Just started saving for it!

Lori Austin - Sounds like you girls are rocking another CW. 🙂
I’m sitting at home terribly sick this weekend. You bright pics and fun details have cheered me up a bit. Have fun ladies!

tina - looks so FUN !!!!!!

Marianne - Looks like so much fun! Love the pillow with the rainbow of fabric circles!!

Valerie@Chateaualamode.typepad.com - BOO….I want to go to your craft weekend!

Rachel - FUN! I wanna go to Craft Weekend!

maggie - that’s it, i can’t handle it anymore, i am going to start a savings account to go to craft weekend…it looks like sooo much fun. do you have any planned in the summer months?

Jody - So fun to see pics – I am dreaming of your craft weekend activities!! soo fun!! it looks like such a lovely reprieve. (and this may or WILL sound odd – but if you ever want to sell that aqua bird pic from Pier 1 you have hanging on the wall – I LUV it – I’ll buy it from ya – let me know!! I meant to go buy it and never did!!)

Cindy - Always love the aprons! The from your last CW actually inspired me to make a child’s one as a gift for a birthday party that my daughter was attending. It turned out precious and we gave it along with a little cookbook! The color combinations always turn out amazing. My MIL looked at the one I made and said, “I never would have thought to put those colors together!” Can’t wait to sit down and make one for myself and my daughters! Won’t be nearly as fun (or yummy) as being at CW, but crafting is always fun nonetheless! Wishing you all a fabulous weekend!

Jess - So fun. Hope it is another fabulous weekend! 🙂

Laura Lee - Looks too fun! Your blog has so inspired me over the last year, my house is so much more fun and colorful now. I love it. Keep up the inspiring work 🙂

Betsy from Elizabeth St - Eep! This looks like so much fun! Enjoy your weekend, crafty ladies. 🙂

jen - i wish it wouldn’t cost me over $1000 to come!! this looks like the best time ever – even my husband agreed it would be fun for me and i should look into it…that NEVER happens! anyways i decided to drop some moo-la on a whack of fabric and am eagerly waiting the tutorials for all the goodies you mentioned you were going to do….i NEED to make those aprons for me,my mom & my sisters for my mom’s 60th birthday week away together – we are all chef’s….kitchen divas…and these would top it off perfectly! please tell you are still going to do it??? pretty please with a cherry on top! {as my kids would say! haha}
and ladies…not to sound like a stalker or anything…but she mentioned a while ago that that print is from pier one. {i have a crazy memory for things like that – my husband wishes i used it for good. haha}

Penny - Ha, it looks like many of us noticed the bird picture. I would love information on it also. Looks like another great weekend is underway! Enjoy your time together. Can’t wait to see more photos.

gina moore - Where did you get the bird picture that I see in the background (the pic with the girl sewing?)

Holly - looks like a great time! I need someone to come help clean at my house…..even without craft weekend! 😉

Rachel Spin - I have a question. In the 9th picture where Lindsay and another lady are working on sewing machines, there is some artwork in the background to the right of the window. It has a big bird in a frame, looks like a western tanager. I am a total bird nerd and would love to know if that is fabric I could order and do something with, or if it is a painting etc…
Thanks, Rachel
p.s. cw looks like a blast, wish I could come one day.

Elisa E - I am so jealous. I wish we had something like this in the UK.

Ashley - One of these days I WILL attend craft weekend. I mean come on, I live in Kansas. It is necessary, right? 🙂
Have a wonderful time!

ko. s - A fun post to read this morning! So excited and slightly jealous for all you ladies! Happy crafting!

Southern Gal - I didn’t realize your craft weekends were running so close together. Wow. You’re an amazing crafty girl!

angela - I AM going to do this one day! Have a great rest of the weekend.
Jealous!

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - Well Lindsey is just plain adorable herself, not to mention that fabulous apron!:)
Im glad to hear that everything is going so well again this time. And love Craig’s reaction. He’s a good man to keep clearing out of his home for these ladies:)

Michelle From Australia - I’m so jealous of the attendees. Why does Australia have to be SO far away from Kansas 🙁

i was right.

so i had some rather lame stuff happen today….

i gave the dog a bath in a cami and bike shorts (hello 1992 called and wants their shorts back???)
and i was completely soaking wet.
i followed waffle downstairs to take his picture of him SPAZZING out…..

IMAG0511-1 IMAG0512-2

just as i took that picture waffle looks behind me and barks like crazy.
i stand up
and the FedEx man was standing at my front door RIGHT BEHIND ME.
my front door is made of glass….and he saw me…and i didn't have on a bra and my clothes were dripping wet.
niiiiiiiiice.

i composed myself…showered and drove all the way to wichita (30 minutes) to the nearest target.
i filled my cart with things for CW and some groceries….and a cute cardi…of course.
i loaded everything out of my cart at the check out.
then i opened my purse and did not have my wallet with me.
and they said there was NOTHING they could do for me, even with my check book.
BLEH.
so i drove all the way back home with nothing done (another 30 minutes).
UGH…i was so mad at myself i felt sick to my stomach.

i came home and found that my dog had eaten all 5 of my protein bars i left on the counter.
and their wrappers.
not cool dog.

but….you know what….we made the watercolor hearts after school and it was completely relaxing.
just like i thought it would be.

IMG_6672-3

isn't that GORGEOUS!?!!!
that picture makes me a crazy amount of happy.

IMG_6668-1

IMG_6679-5
i had blown a fuse earlier in the day while vacuuming so we had no music on either.
it was just quiet.
my two little girls and i painted and talked.

IMG_6678-4

IMG_6670-2
i said "it's just so pretty!"
annie "mom….you should do this craft at craft weekend….the ladies coming would love it!"

sigh.
that girl is too. stinkin. adorable.

talby was not sure if she was going to give her painting away or if we should frame it.
the jury is still out…her decision completely.
of course my vote is to frame it.
:)

IMG_6698-10

ahhhhhhh….it was so nice.

i highly recommend sitting down and opening up a brand new set of watercolors
$3.44 (which thankfully i had purchased the day before!)
and painting a full page of hearts in  every color.
you will feel much better than when you started.

even if you had a pretty stupid morning.

which i did.

Rachael - Silly question, but where did you get the watercolors? They are so pretty?

Cheryl - What a great kids project! I’m so glad that my project inspired you! =)

melanie - well, i must say you recovered quite nicely. that’s a good takeaway for me b/c when i have a lousy day, it is hard to end well. i’m not a strong finisher. so thanks. 🙂

elisa - love it when dogs freak out. always makes me laugh 🙂

denise@victory rd. - without a bra!?!!!
no money at target?!!!
but you didn’t let that own your entire day. you allowed His mercies to be new in the afternoon.
colorful heart-shaped mercies. *love*

maggie - gotta love waffle, but gotta ask…is he constipated? lol!
Hearts are beautiful!

kb - you are such a good mommy!!!! wish I had more patience to do that stuff or was able to let go enought to deal with the mess. Maybe one day before they are grown and gone.

Mini Piccolini - Love this watercolor project! Had to share: http://minipiccolini.com/2012/02/its-friday-5/

Jeanene Snell - You are a good person. From what I read, I like your heart.

Amber L Peters - i love it! i will definitely be making that watercolor painting with my girl!
sorry about your crappy day!

Beth - I don’t think my comment came through yesterday, if it did, sorry for commenting twice! I love the Etc. shop too, haven’t made it yet since they reopened, can’t wait! Also, the watercolors you’re doing remind me of some I used for an art class inspiration, and I think you’d enjoy them: http://www.watercolorpainting.com/brush_exercise_thickthin.htm (click on all the links across the top – bands of color, wrist flick, painterly strokes, etc. to see the cool ideas). Also, a blog that has great art inspiration is daisy yellow, and here’s a neat watercolor study: http://daisyyellow.squarespace.com/vividlife/watercolor-line-work.html
Sorry about your trip to Wichita!

julie - I too was wondering where you got the pretty watercolors, but also the nice white paper? Thankful for you, thankful for your family and thank you for sharing all with us.

Salwar Kameez - love these pictures! The colors are so bright and cheery. The failed trip to Target is sucky, but the FedEx story is hilarious!

Lisa - Hi Meg! Sorry about the rough start to your day. My guess as to why they couldn’t take your check is that at Target they require a drivers license when writing a check (since everyone seems to be wondering about that!)
I only started reading your blog a few weeks ago, but love it so much that I went through the WHOLE BLOG and read ALL the archived posts. ALL of them. I feel like I know you and your family now, and that makes me happy, because I can tell what wonderful people you are.
You even inspired me to start my own blog and actually stick with it this time. (Granted, only 3 posts so far, but it’s progress). If you have time, check it out! http://lisajaklitsch.typepad.com/lisa-crafts-too/

Jennifer - Just precious! I say frame it!

Mindy Harris - YOU ARE SUCH A HOOT.
A.HOOT!!

Lindsey - Oh goodness, Meg. I too had a frustrating day but it was made better by the thought that I get to come to CW! WHOOP WHOOP! Painting rainbow hearts does sound relaxing. I cannot wait to come to CW and leave behind my petty woes! See you soon!

Anne - Love, love, love, love these pictures! The colors are so bright and cheery. I’m going to do this with my kids soon. The failed trip to Target is sucky, but the FedEx story is hilarious! 🙂

AshleyAnn - Cami & wet shorts. NICE. Have you seen Legally Blonde? You could have done that snap thing for the FedEx guy when getting up from taking Waffle’s picture…that would be awesome.

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - Mmmm…. I think I need a shiny new watercolor set. 🙂 Annie, I agree… they would LOVE it!

Alicia - I am sure the FedEx man thought it was funny! Can you imagine the things those guys see? Oh my! The hearts are so amazing. I am definitely trying this one tmr! We are headed to Target and new watercolors are in our cart! What is the paper you used? Is it heavy duty or anything special? Hope tmr your Target run will be completed successfully!

merlin - I did the heart painting. I am not crafty or artistic, but I could do this and it has brought me joy and peace. Thank you for sharing this activity.
Thanks also for sharing why not to have a glass door….maybe you made his day though.

Jolene (Homespun Heritage) - I am so sorry to say that I laughed very hard at your expense….you just can’t make this stuff up!
This a.m. the repair guy was here to fix my oven and while he’s tinkering away my toast oven goes berserk! Seriously, I think my appliances are possessed but we’re rebuking the mean ole devil out of our electronics…Sheesh…craziness abounds!

Amy @ www.littleforalittlewhile.blogspot.com - Those sweet little hearts would be sure to brighten anyone’s day. Super cute. Arriving at a store without my wallet is my biggest fear, as I too live 30 minutes from any noteworthy store. I am always switching from a diaper bag to my purse, and even with my baby who loves to dig my wallet out of both, I have always been prepared, thankfully! (knock on wood). The good thing is that you can smile about it, and it’s just another reason to head back to Target. Darn 😉

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - Im sure delivery men(& women) have THE craziest stories to tell…and yours wouldnt be the worst:)
I was sure you were gonna tell us that Waffle ate the hamster! I was all prepared to mourn & everything.
As for dogs and their appetites, thats what led to our fire(we had left a big Panera bag full of bread and bagels on the back of our gas stove; the beagle jumped up to get at the food and turned the gas burners on full blast. Lovely.

Kelly - I once walked to the grocery store with my baby in his stroller, got to the check out, realized I didn’t have my wallet, walked home to our apt. building, remembered I had left my “clicker” that opened both the gate and our garage door (my only way back into the apt.) with the management for repair and it had started to rain on my way home . . . it was just lovely. 🙂
I thought you blew an emotional fuse! Funny that it was an actual real one! I blew one at our new house using the microwave and hair dryer simulanesously. I called my dad for help and he was so puzzled as to why I’d be using both at the same time. 🙂 I can’t even remember now but I do know it made perfect sense at the time.
Happy Wednesday! Kelly

JustMommer - My own FedEx story this week. The tales they could tell.
http://itsjustmommer.blogspot.com/2012/02/hermione-made-my-heart-stop.html

Krissy - Firstly, im sure the FedEx guy has seen much MUCH more bizzare things/people. Secondly, i love the paintings. They are bright and happy. I just might do one for myself. Thirdly, I’m sorry your day got off to a rough start. 🙁 If i still lived there, I totally woulda loaned you the money. Wasting time drives me bonkers. 🙁 SO glad your day ended better. And thanks for making me smile, and reminding me of home, as usual! 😀

megan - hahahahaha
ha
and
naughty waffle!
we’ve come to realize that winnie is a naughty one, too….counter-food snatcher just like waffle.
that’s why God made ’em so cute!

Juli - You can rock a rainbow photograph better than any other blogger I know!

natalie - i hate when the target thing happens! ahhh so frustrating.
those hearts are totally awesome and i think i need to do that. circles would be cool too.
awesome.

alecia kleiner - I loved this post! Sorry for your wet t-shirt exposure, but it made for some serious laughs here in Seattle! Gorgeous hearts and we are so doing that today. It’s rainy and I need the inspiration.
blessings!

Gail - Meg, next time, call me. I live in Wichita and would love to meet you at Target and float you a loan. And then maybe we could hit Sonic for a slush.

jen - i am doing this this weekend! minus the wet dog, impromptu wet t-shirt contest, fedex man and forgetting my wallet of course!! haha.

Karen Gerstenberger - What is it about rainbow colors that makes us all feel so good?
It is what first attracted me to your blog…that, and the fact that my best friend had moved away from here to Kansas, and reading your blog helped me to get a little “KS feeling and perspective.” Thank you for sharing your REALITY, both the up, rainbow times and the no-wallet-at-Target-times.

Sarah b - I have had so many humiliating target moments. Most recent was thinking I’d left my phone in the front of my cart, driving back to target, asking if one had been turned in (no), and then the manager walked the whole parking lot with me. We searched and searched all the carts, she asked “why don’t you just check in your car?” and lo and behold, there is my phone in the driver’s seat, not even covered up by anything. Grrrrr.
I’ve also left my wallet at home, but they kept my bags at customer service and let me cone back and pay later (only 8 mins away). And I use checks there all the time! Bizarre!
Thank you for sharing your lame day with us. 🙂 CW will make up for it tenfold I’m sure!!! 🙂 🙂

Alice H - Why wouldn’t Target let you write a check? I thought they did checks electronically like Walmart does. That is nuts!! Love the hearts. I wonder if my 2 year old son would enjoy that!

Tara - Annie is totally right, CW ladies would love to rock some watercolor hearts. I would know 🙂 Miss your guts! Can’t wait to see pics from this weekend…

Jackie Kepner Barnum - Oh boy! I had the same kind of day you did yesterday. It is crazy how multiple things will break on the SAME day. The dog will take off with a bottle of cleaner and the lid pops off somehow and it goes all over the floor. Luckily I caught him before he drank any. But it all passes and hopefully we can laugh at it in the future. Hope you are having a great day today!

Alicia @ La Famille - i hate stupid days!! sorry 🙁 but your watercolor paintings ARE beautiful! frame. def frame!

4 Fab Franklins - That picture of Waffle’s teeth is just so cute! He made me smile. Meg, I’m sorry, but I totally lol’d at the FedEx incident…sounds like something that would happen to me. Those painted heart projects are 2 – 2 Cute!
My opinion, I heart shopping at Target, but they have weird policies. I would really Really like it if they would stop asking me if I’d like to sign up for a card.
Enjoy your day!

Marianne - ugh. What a horrible start to a day! THe heart paintings are gorgeous though!!!

Kristin Hayne - 1. waffle cheers me up, yet again…. thank you!!
2. I have done that…minus wallet thing a few times…. so frustrating i could cry. I hate wasting time
3. Gorgeous watercolor hearts…. adorable girls
4. Just think, you MADE that FedEx man’s week!!
5. Thank you for praying for me the other day. If actually felt my day brighten after that
6. You rock…. I am going to have to do a Craft weekend with you guys now. 🙂 So keep having them, OK?

shannon - it does look relaxing and very pretty! Our Target is also about 20 minutes away so I would be pretty mad at myself for forgetting my wallet but also a bit mad they wouldn’t take my check as well!
Glad the day turned out good in the end 🙂

Kim from Miracle-Round - Although your day started off rough, I’m glad it ended on a happy colourful note!
The wallet thing – ug! I’ve left the house with my wallet in my purse (and I was so proud of myself that I remembered to check) just to discover that my debit card wasn’t in my wallet because I’d left it beside the computer when I was paying bills. Not good.

Shar - i love this craft. leading up to valentine’s, i spent my time cutting out random hearts out of various shades of red and pink paper. it became a challenge to get the heart either perfect or not! was so relaxing and i didn’t feel like i was being unproductive while watching tv.
hope the rest of your week goes super!

tiffany gardner - OH…my fav blog girl…I’m so sorry. What a yucky morning! You are such an encouragement…after all that yuck…you still chose JOY in the end. Wow…thanks…I needed that!

sandee prince - ps- where did you find that cool watercolor kit? we always buy the cheapo crayola ones and they never last 🙁

sandee prince - I freakin love you. and i don’t even know you! you always seem to find the positive in every day. no matter how crappy it starts. (and not having your wallet at target is pretty crappy) 🙂
Happy Thurs Meg…. keep up the great blog!

Katherine @ Grass Stains - What a terrible way to start the day! I feel for you; that’s a long way to go, only to be so frustrated. But I’m so glad those watercolor hearts turned your day around. Beautiful!

Kim - Boo! What a lame start! But yay what a great turn around! Annie is right – that simple craft would be perfect for a quick change of cw pace! I love this craft – totally would have done it! 🙂 hope it’s a blast! Wish I was there!

Wendy - Oh Meg! I’m sorry about the rough start to your day. I had something similar happen to me at the grocery store too. Not fun! My husband is an airline pilot and we use the same credit card. Well, unknown to me, he used his the same exact time I tried to check out with $300 worth of groceries. The credit card didn’t go through of course. The credit company’s excuse was that they thought my card had been stolen since someone in Albuquerque, New Mexico had bought a Starbuck’s Latte and a burrito in the airport! I just had to laugh and wonder what credit card thief would just buy a coffee and a snack? I can laugh now, but at that moment I could have spit nails! Love the water colors, by the way! 🙂

Seriously Sassy Mama - I always fear laving my wallet. I check my person every time I leave the house. Cami and biker shorts made me giggle.

Susan - Love the hearts! We homeschool and I am always looking for something to do in the afternoon. We could do this together!

beki - your link to that print inspired a little sewing project for me. i haven’t started it yet, but i can’t wait. i think it’s just what i need to get out of my creative funk. thanks 😉

Lori Austin - I’m guessing the Fed Ex Man has seen a lot in his years of delivery. :-/
No wallet at Target totally stinks. I’ve done that at Walmart before with two kids in tow and a cart full of groceries. Just sat in the van and cried afterward with my poor kids wondering what the heck was wrong with me and why we left our groceries behind. Stinks!
Rainbow hearts and quiet time with your girls sounds like the silver lining to the day.

Jody - I want to do this w my boys…but whenever we do watercolors, the colors do not turn out very bright?! I must buy the cheapest I can find…we will try this!! So cute. A run to Target or Hobby Lobby is in order today..
(Laughed at your post today. I once was walking into Target and suddenly thought, “Oh my..did I change out of my PJ pants???”..and I didn’t even want to look down…but I did, and I had changed – whew!!!)
And the other day, the UPS guy came to our door & I looked just lovely – hair a mess, stickers all over me (from my boys) and frosting on my shirt from making cupcakes. Lovely, yes.

amy jupin - anna is completely freaking out over the hearts…
def gonna have to make that one asap.
and as for the fedex man…well…let’s just say our pest control guy has seen me at…not my best.
tank top with no bra and holey pj pants.
and with ben and buck trying hard to escape out the front door at the same time.
we all have those special people in our lives! 🙂
hope y’all have the BEST time this weekend!

kristiina - YES!! I’m not the only one who doesn’t have her wallet in the check out line…not that I’m proud of it. Just nice to know I’m not the only one LOL (so embarrassing) Thanks for sharing ALL of your life with us!

Amanda - Your blog has definitely turned into one of my favorites! I love seeing all your crafts, hearing your hilarious stories, and seeing pictures of Kansas (this Kansas born/Georgia transplant sure misses her home state!) Thanks for sharing your life with us!

Kimberly Dial - So sorry you had a bad morning (forgetting the wallet … been there … done that!) but I bet the delivery guy was happy! LOL Love the hearts … you give me the best ideas to do with my grandgirlies! Thanks! 🙂

Kristi Rediske - This may be crazy but why didn’t target take your check? I think ours still takes checks-maybe not though. Sorry you had a crazy day-but it sure ended nice-thats what counts (easy for me to say) Have a better day today!

Whitney - 🙁 I didn’t have a great day yesterday either and today it’s rainy and cold.
I just wanted to sleep in this morning. ALH decided that she wanted a bottle at 2 a.m. and wanted to play with me after that. We were up until 4, my husband has leave by 5 … Rough Morning to say the least!
Just reading this post made me smile. Thanks so much! I need to get me some water color paints 🙂

PrairieJenn - Ahhh…nothing like art therapy after a rough morning!
We’ll be doing those hearts for sure:)
Yay! Thanks for sharing.

Heather Crawford - Oh my…THAT was hilarious..I would have died!

Victoria - Oh me, oh my, what a morning! I’ve definitely had those kinds of days.
Your watercolor picture makes me happy to look at too! I will definitely have to do this with my 6 year old. She LOVES to paint and I do find it therapeutic to sit and paint with her. 🙂

Megan - Why wouldn’t Target let you use your checkbook?! Strange.
So sorry about your rough morning but the beautiful hearts definitely made me smile! Love!

Catherine - so sorry about your wonky day… we definitely have all been there. 😉
will you share where you got the tray of watercolors with the 3 rows? we’ve only used the crayola and rose art ones and i think we’re ready for an upgrade! especially if we decide to do the heart project! it’s fabulous! thanks, megan!

Colleen - Love the watercolor hearts. I think we’ll try it today. We’ve all had the Target moment. I once sent my husband to the grocery store with a gift card that turned out was all used up. He didn’t have his wallet and was mortified. Not his happiest day.
I’m wondering how much money I would save if I was 30 minutes away from Target?

Kimberlee Jost - That watercolor pic needs to be blown up to a canvas HUGE.
It’s beautiful.
As are you…even with a “stupid morning”.

Cheryl E. - Had a similar kind of day except that our 14 year old dog (8 lb Yorkie named Chase) ate 16 Hershey Miniatures and 1 Tootsie Roll – – – wrappers and all. Had to take him to the vet. Let’s just say he is confined due to all his “digestive issues” Gotta laugh at these moments!! 🙂

THE FED EX MAN - thanks for the cami and shorts yesterday. You made my day.

Laura Phelps - I have written in my prayer book, scribbled actually, at the top of a page…”STUPID MORNING”
SERIOUSLY
yesterday morning here was BEYOND ridiculous…and I fell into the pew at mass and wrote “stupid morning”, thinking it would be my blog post title that night!
I never wrote it because the morning was THAT bad (think Nick out of town for 2 WEEKS, car that wont get up an icy driveway at 6:30am, kids I can’t get to school, kind of BAD)
BUUUUUUUUUUUT…
lovin’ the paints
A LOT
I copied your butterfly on canvas and it was a success
me thinks I might do this too
Im a follower, not a leader…
love that you blew a fuse too
and the only thing more ridiculous then you in a wet cami and shorts, would be if you were also wearing roller skates…OR
if WAFFLE was wearing the cami and shorts…
on roller skates
AND…DOGS! I am new to this ownership of a dog thing…and my dog is chewing EVERYTHING!
not cool
thank God she is so darn cute.
and now I am done
sorry
this is long
but I have been a sINGLE PARENT FOR NEARLY A MONTH AND I AM LONELY FOR CONVERSATION!!!!!!
sorry about the caps there
not intended
ok
all for now
off to the bus stop
have a great day and don’t forget your wallet 😉
love you

happygirl - You made the FedEx guy’s day, you know. Just sayin’

Michelle From Australia - 1. Don’t TARGET know you are F.A.M.O.U.S????
2. I love Talby’s hearts. Just gorgeous. That is both Talby and the hearts 🙂
3. If Talby wants to auction her heart art with proceeds to WHATEVER (pun intended) charity she choses, I’m happy to open the bidding.
Good night!

Sally - Oh Meg, I had the exact same thing happen to me on a trip to Target. Only I was 9 months pregnant at the time, and on my way out to the car empty handed, a stranger yelled at me from across the parking lot, “UH OH!!! LOOKS LIKE SOMEBODY NEEDS SOME ICE CREAM!!” Really lame. Love your beautiful heart paintings!

Terrie G - the ONE thing I don’t like about our house…glass doors! front & back!!
And those hearts… I <3!!!

Leah - Target wouldn’t let you write a check?! That’s lame! I’m sorry, but I too, was laughing about the FedEx guy and Waffle the crazy dog. Sorry the day started out crazy. But sounded like it ended on a very relaxing note. And I’d totally frame Talby’s picture.

Heather D. - Very bad day, but the hearts and colors are sooooo bold and beautiful!

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Oh my, that definitely qualifies as a bad day. I was giggling out loud about the Fed Ex man 😉

Dana @ Bungalow'56 - I bet the FedEx man figured he had a pretty good day : )
Dana

Amber @poshideas.com - I’ve so been there standing like an idiot without a wallet. I Hate that! My ladies would absolutely love to paint hearts! So pretty. Glad your day had some redeeming qualities!

this morning i was going to make the lampshades for two lamps i got from my grandma's home.
i was planning on just covering them with the black and white dot fabric
but realized the shade shape was going to be difficult.
someone left a comment yesterday saying "you are making those ripped fabric lampshades!" and i smiled because i wasn't…..but then i decided to do it once my first plan wasn't going to work.

IMG_5580-3

i covered the wire with strips of fabric and tiny dots of hot glue.

btw….ripping fabric is really fun.

it's loud and satisfies something in me….it's weird right?

IMG_5572-1

then i just wrapped strips around and tied.
that is it.

super easy.
very happy.
and quick.
🙂

i first saw this idea on the pleated poppy…..lindsey inspired me with this fabulous craft!
i want to make 10 more….it was so fun.

Lisa - /hi Meg, I’ve been reading your blog NONSTOP for weeks now…(am working my way back through the archives…in March 2008 now!) it sounds like the sign you need to get from that shop you linked to at the beginning of your post is the one that says “Never grow up” since you’re always “complaining” that your kids grow too fast 🙂 If I lived near you, I’d definitely want to be friends 🙂 Lisa 🙂

Melissa - I am a fitness & wellness coordinator and I have heard nothing but wonderful things about those running shoes!!

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - Those running shoes ARE happy(do you think they’d help with the fact that I H-A-T-E running?)

Kerrin Norman - Hi,
I have been following your blog for many months now and I want to thank you. You are inspiring, I write my own blog but I don’t post as much as you do. You remind me that I can do more then I give myself credit for. You are comforting. You share the good, the bad and the ugly reminding me that I am human and perfect the way I am. You write with such honesty and humor that I feel like I am listening to a good friend. So thank you so much for being a safe port in the sea of life.
Kerrin
