annie got some new clothes from the Tea Collection.

i just looked and they have a 20% off sale going on through the 11th!

IMG_3068-4

IMG_3067-3

the print on the dress is so pretty.

IMG_3063-2

adorable.
i love those laces…. and that sticthing!

her favorite is the SUPER soft sweater leggings.

IMG_3074-6
she wore them for 2 days straight!
even sleeping!
i don't blame her.

who doesn't like new clothes that really soft and comfy?

but….. do you do a little booty dance when you get a new dress?
annie does.
and usually adds a little "WOOAHH!" and a leap off a piece of furniture.

🙂

…………………………………………

yesterday i saw a mouse.
I SCREAMED!!!

i don't think i am really technically "afraid " of mice but apparently when i see one….
i scream and jump.
it all just came out of me.
then waffle got in on the action.
lauren & i chased it out from under the couch and he cornered it and caught in his paws….
put it in his mouth….
and just like a tom & jerry cartoon it came running back out!

right towards me!!!

i SCREAMED again and jumped up on the couch.

why?
why do i do that?
i do it with spiders too.

so crazy.

IMG_0269

we set some traps and caught it.
waffle is sad.
it was the most excitement he'd had in a year.
he didn't sit down for over an hour after the mouse escaped.
he was sniffing under everything…hunting it down.

someone said to me today "there is always something fun going on at your house!"

ha ha ha

i don't know about the FUN but there is always SOMETHING going on.

Joey Biber - Though the leggings are somehow boyish, her blue printed blouse and pink shoelaces make the whole look more feminine and playful. Those seem to be made of soft and comfy fabric, and that can certainly help during the hot summer season.

karen - annie is super cute in her new digs!
oh and i hate to tell ya…but where there is one there are many! set more traps just in case.

Breeanna @ a brilliant melody - I saw a mouse in out kitchen last week. I was in the living room and saw it out of the corner of my eye. I followed it to the cupboard and when I opened the door, it ran directly toward me, in between my feet. How could I not scream and jump! I didn’t want it crawling on me. I have two dogs and they chased it under the oven and kept sniffing around 🙂

Mel - Your Annie has the cutest haircut ever!! She reminds me of a story book little girl, you know the kind that many amazing & quirky adventures 🙂 Her new clothes are awesome ( ah little girls clothes, the only thing I despair over , having 3 sons – the clothes , the clothes!!!)

Elizabeth - Do you have ANY IDEA how much those of us out here in
blog-follower land ADORE that dog of yours??? I am a total “Waffle follower.” LOVE LOVE LOVE THAT DOG OF YOURS.
OH, AND ALSO YOUR BLOG. ;o)

merlin - There is a trivia fact that goes something like: for every mouse you see there are 100, yes, 100 that you can’t see…

Tracy - Ha! We caught a mouse in our house yesterday, too!

Jodi @ The Un-Soccermom Blog - we have field mice that love to set up for the winter in our garage. we also have spiders… both make me jump about 5ft in the air and scream like a little girl!
Annie’s new dress and shoes are SO CUTE!!
in my house, my dogs LOVE to capture flies. And since they go in and out, a lot! there’s always at least one fly for them to capture and (yuck) eat!

Michelle - God’s honest truth – fingers crossed – as I read this post I saw a mouse run from the fridge to the stove – bleghhhhhh!
I have spotted him twice (this being the 3rd time (hope it’s only 1 mouse)). Traps are set – he’s not falling for it. I was using sticky traps – today I reinforced with old fashioned wood snap traps (with Nutella as bait – this mouse should be a victim soon)!
I NEED to get a better camera and learn to shoot – you truly have great pictures of your kids & life. My camera is old and yucky and takes like 8 seconds to get the next shot. I never get the shot!
Thanks as always for your blog – it makes me smile 🙂

beth - Awesome picture of Waffle! I don’t mind mice–unless they’re IN MY HOUSE! we lived in an apartment that had it’s fair share and I definitely pulled the girlie card one night when I called my husband away from studying to catch a mouse. You are not alone, my friend, in your screamidge. 🙂

Lori Austin - This post made me laugh. I even read it to my hubby and he laughed at the pic of waffle. We needed a laugh – it’s been a rough week. Thanks Meg! 😉

Jennifer - Too funny!

Tanya H - I scream at mice too. Spider I more like yell at becuaes I’m annoyed that its in my house, but mice are intolerable!!! blaaaahhhh!!!!
On another note, I love Annie’s shoes, and her book too! 🙂 That’s my fav book from when I was little.

Kimberly Dial - I loved this post … I got a visual and it literally made me laugh out loud … thank you Meg! 🙂

Trisha - Screaming at the sight of a mouse is not only appropriate, I think it is just in our DNA. We had a mouse this summer and I am still traumatized. I have tried to talk my husband into letting the exterminator move in with us and buying ten cats. So far, he isn’t going for it.

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - That was a happy post. Made me smile! I hate mice too and I’m a screamer when I see one….yuck!

kristine cline - Ok, I just have to say that I clicked on your blog today and saw those cute pics of your daughter and immediately thought “Ramona Quimby”….I loved those books as a kids and Annie just seems to have that same spunkiness….
sorry about the mouse! yikes!

Brooke - Oh yes, I’m with you. I’d be screaming too. Probably while peeing my pants a little bit!

tiffany gardner - ewwww….I have a Major fear of mice. and I live in a 100 year old home…some sometimes…we get mice too! I would have done the same thing. (except i usually call my husband and beg him to come home. lame… i know).

amy jupin - EEEEEEKKK!
and
annie looks so cute in her new duds.
(by the way, and i can’t even make this stuff up, i promise you…
but just as i typed ‘eek’, i saw something crawling on my leg and it was a cricket!!
josh just fed our frogs and one cricket must have escaped!
talk about scream?!!?!?!
eeeeekkkkk!!)

emily anderson - love that dress! super cute 🙂

Holly - Annie is cute! DO you think they might have sweater leggings in my size?! 😉 As for the mouse you should let that sweet kitty cat in for a bit!

marcy bradford - hi meg! love your blog! where did you get your big pom-pom fringe on your pillows? I m looking for jumbo pom pom fringe in lavendar for some pillows in my litte girl’s room 🙂 thanks!
-marcy

happygirl - I don’t like seeing a mouse scurry across the floor, either. but, when you live in the woods, you gets mice. dang it. Spiders totally freak me out. LOVE the sweater leggings. A-DOR-A-BLE. 🙂

Kerry - oh she looks adorable!! love that 2nd picture… oh im the same with the mice – yuk!!!!

Heather - I have always jumped and screamed at the sight of mice too.
Last night I saw one in the garage and I just stood there and watched it run away. It was the strangest thing. I thought to myself…I must be getting old. I don’t have the energy to be scared anymore! LOL

sue - Not happy about the trap but I guess you got to do what you have to do.!

Laura - Sooooo funny, I have a goldendoodle too, only ours is Bailey. For three days she was in the EXACT same position with her nose under the coach and crying. I kept looking and looking – nothing. Then I became convinced it was a mouse INSIDE the couch = ughhhh! Hubby was out of town so I figured I would wait for him to check it out – last night while at a meeting my 11 year old texted me – turns our Bailey had managed to shove her beloved ball INSIDE the couch and that is what she was crying for. Next time I will know to look harder!

jackie grandy - I meant to say there not their. Sorry for the grammatical error in my above post!

Laura Phelps - i want to move in with you
you live life in color
does that make sense?
i just washed dishes for over an hour (broken dish washer) and it is grey and starting to rain and i was thinking about my recent life and my blog and how i need to post something COLORFUL because i am sick of the struggle and sadness
anyway
i love you
your life is in color
🙂

jackie grandy - We all scream when their is something in our house that is unexpected, even an itsy bitsy cute little mouse. We know that it can’t really hurt us but it just unexpectedly strikes up that fear response.
We had a garden snake in our house last spring and it freaked me out. I was waking out of the laundry room and saw this bright green snake slithering on my kitchen floor. I dropped all of my laundry and screamed and screamed. I know garden snakes don’t hurt us, but I did not sleep knowing it was in my house slithering around somewhere. I sat on the dining room table with my cleaning gloves and a bag waiting for it to slither out so I could grab it. I also put towels underneath our bedroom doors so it would not get in our bedrooms. Luckily we never saw the snake again and it most likely went out as quickly as it came in. I really think I scared it away with my screams 🙂

Ashlyn@Pinecone - Man, you have got some great pictures of Annie – so cute!!
We have cats and whenever there is a spider or fly around they are after it (well…they are after it if they are not sleeping, which covers about 19 hours of every day!) I think they might even wake up for a mouse 🙂
If it happens again (god forbid) Waffle will be ready!!

Seriously Sassy Mama - I hate mice. We used to live by a field, and they were always finding their way into our house.

Rachel J - We had a mouse in the house over the summer. And let me tell you, this city girl almost died! IT was horrible! And my sweet little beagle Charlie was oblivious! I posted about it on my blog…… http://faithfulcitymouse.blogspot.com/2011/07/mouse-in-house.html
Have a great day!

TinaM. - I wish I was cool enough to wear those cozy tights. I’ve always loved them ever since I was a little kid.
p.s. I scream at mice too!

Terrie G - I scream too!! Loved the pic of Waffle with his nose under the couch!

shannon - I would scream if I saw a mouse in my house too! I had one run across my toe a few weeks back but it was outside my backdoor and that was scary enough.
Love Annie’s new outfit and I LOL when I read about the bootie dance, my 4 year old always does that little dance after she puts her panties on, crazy kids 🙂

Kim - oh. my. goodness.
mylie does similar things with bugs and flies.
a mouse would be too big for her.
but she definitely would go for it.
until the mouse moved.
waffle is my dog hero of the day.
brave little guy. haha!

April M - love that second picture of Annie 🙂

i ran to walmart this morning at 6:30 for cash for my kids to take to the book fair.
there was one other couple there.
speed walking.
and me.
it was SILENT in walmart.
kinda creepy.

but also made me wish i was a morning person that could get all her grocery shopping done at 6:30 because it was so awesomely quiet in there.

IMG_8415-1
scott is now 2 inches taller than me.

and he can spin a basketball on his finger for a long time.

and he’s cute.

🙂

IMG_8880-1
she is getting so tall too.
i might end up the shortest in this family????

Angela Storm - “Then” was my wedding dance song and it was AWESOME!

Jodi - I would so love to do this! I love seeing the photos. But instead …..I am going to Blue Lily in SD because of your awesome posts. I am spending all of my money there! Because of you! And I am on like cloud 10! Whoot. Thanks for the recommendation. Have fun at craft weekend. I will catch you in 2013!

julia - Yes, actually, I do have a question but I ask it with some trepidation. Because it isn’t about the craft weekend. And when I’ve asked you things in the past I’ve gotten some tough love. Er…so, here goes, how do you make all of great buttons and headers with the dot backgrounds and frames (on the craft weekend site). I have a client that wants me to make her Christmas card and I can do the grids for pictures but plain white background is b.o.r.i.n.g. And I don’t think I can draw stripes or dots that would look pro-fessional.

Jessica Johnson - ON. THE. LIST. confirmed with your favorite sidekick. who has the exact same name as my favorite sidekick. CANNOT WAIT!!!

Shellie Hanley - Meg,love you and your blog. I feel like we’re friends, although I’ve never met you. I would love to be your BFF and come over for craft weekend. I’ve never been to Kansas, live in Florida. Love Brad Paisley. Love your home. You seem real, I love that. LOVE that you talk about the Lord. Love Waffle, would like to steal him. Your blog makes me smile every day!
Shellie

Shana - Let me number my thoughts:
1. Wow! Scott is a man! and that all happened in the last month! Isn’t it weird? One day our baby – the next day we are looking at our husbands 20 years ago. (maybe that’s just me)
2. Brad Paisley has the sexiest guitar.
3. I love that song too. I love that feeling every morning when I wake up and as the last thought before I fall asleep. This marriage can’t be real!!
4. The song doesn’t make me cry – but you know craft weekends do. 🙂 have fun!

Mel - One day i will come all the way from Australia for one of your craft weekends 🙂
Scott is a cutie 🙂 All mums think their sons are gorgeous! My son is 12 and I think he is the most handsome boy in the world … I am loving this age so much 🙂
Even though we don’t really do Halloween here in Australia , I am throwing a Halloween morning tea party for my boys and some friends…we’re gonna paint pumpkins 🙂 Can’t wait!
Mel X

Valerie@Chateaualamode.typepad.com - I love Walmart in the early morning…I cried when I watched the video, such a beautiful song…my kids are all older than yours and I’m now the shortest one in the family, you may be too in yours one day and it’s not a bad thing…I’m going to throw my name in the hat for craft weekend because I love cheesecake 🙂

Jenn - I’m on the list…woohoo!

karla @ bluegrass jewelrydesigns - I love that song too. Wish I could craft with you but I live in WA. bummer.

Krissy - Go Kansas Jayhawks!!!!! Wish i could go! Thanks for your blog, love reading it! 🙂

Rach - woudl love to go but of course I live in Ireland …. maybe someday, thanks for the inspiration through your blog xx

Meredith@count it all joy - Enough! First you make me cry with that beautiful, touching song that reminds me of my husband and I and THEN you announce a craft weekend at your house which is on the other side of the world. I might need to go and eat a whole cheesecake now. Meredy xo

melissa rice - everytime you post a pic of that guy he looks more and more grown up!

Christy - This is awesome news!! I would love to come. But I was curious what airport I would fly into ? Want to check out airfare before I put my name on the list. Need to see if I can save my pennies up.

Kacey @ Refreshed Decor - I had the same thought about Walmart when I stopped by quickly yesterday morning just before 8 after dropping off my kindergartener. Super quiet – weird!
Craft weekend will be amazing – wish I could be there!

Jenna@CallHerHappy - Ooh I wish I could come! I bet your home is full of rainbow awesomeness and smiles! I know you’ll take lots of cool pics. And, maybe someday when Ellen is older, I’ll be there 🙂
Jenna
callherhappy.com

Lori Austin - I *love* what Penny wrote. She is exactly right. The years of a loving marriage are so much more important than the one day you said “i do”. (that song is wonderful, btw)
I SO WISH I COULD AFFORD CRAFT WEEKEND AND AIRFARE. (yes, I’m yelling) I will just have to continue to live vicariously through all of you ladies.

Laura Phelps - I can not listen to that song. I do the ugly cry when I hear it. it is beautiful.
belle needed money for the book fair today too…had to tell her “we have no money.”
man, I hate that.
I know its not the end of the world. She will grow up fine.
I just feel like such a loser.
I went to church for quiet this morning…people were annoyingly LOUD
should have gone to walmart 🙂
and i want my own private craft weekend
just me and you
is that selfish???

Holly - all this talk about Brad Paisley and I forget to mention that I live down the street from his light guy. It is so funny to see the big Brad Paisley semi coming through our little town!

seriouslysassymama - You need to grab your husband after dinner and play that song and dance in the kitchen. My parents dance in the kitchen, on the deck, etc. They have been married for 46 years.

Carrie - Two things:
1. In my eyes, Brad Paisley can do no wrong. His songs are either clever and witty, or incredibly touching; I can only imagine what kind of man he is, but I would guess he is pretty wonderful.
2. I have to have a clean and orderly sign like the one in the first picture…it is FABULOUS! Anyone know where I can get one? Ebay only has a brand-new corrugated plastic version.
Thanks!

Jackie @ Marin mama cooks - Hi Meg! You are so much fun that I would jump on a plane and totally come for craft weekend anytime, but i am not crafty at all though :(. I can cook though and could go run with you and the other gals:)
I have been following your blog for about a year and I love your sense of humor. I just started 2 blogs of my own and this blogging thing is addicting! One is a cooking blog and one is a random blog! You helped inspire me :).
Thanks!

jaxcheryl - You two can dance to this on your 20th anniversary party. Perfect. Love your very real blog.

Hannah - I have to know…does Craig like country music? I LOVE it, but my fiancee still isn’t a fan. How can I help him into the light?
🙂

Jodi @ The Un-Soccermom Blog - I hit walmart early on saturday mornings… I treat myself with a mocha frap from Rockin’ Joe Espresso, our locally owned coffee shop and go before the crowd is there! I do have to share the aisles with the stockers, but that’s way better than fighting the crowd…
so wish I could go to craft weekend… but we’re pinching pennies with my daughter going off to college next year… y’all have a blast!

Stephanie - Really? What a great song to wake up to!!! Our first song was “When God made you!” Goes a little like this – “I wonder what God was thinking when he made you?…….(then later in the song it goes) he musta been thinking of me!!! It was perfect!! Wish I was closer for craft weekend!! Have fun with that!!

Danielle H. - Okay, so could you let us know which weekends would be available in 2012? I have a very busy 2012 but could plan around the tentative dates maybe…. What if we get on the list but can’t attend the weekend we are chosen for?

Penny - Meg,
Your comment about the Brad Paisley song, (we had no dance 17 years ago…btw) made me thing about marriage. Some people have a big beautiful wedding and end up with a shell of a marriage. You seem like you have a wonderful marriage full of family, God and a genuine love for each other. Wedding celebrations can be beautiful, but truly it is the life you and your partner build that is important. You are a fine example of just that! I really have no idea what your wedding was like, but your comment made me relly think about this. Put that song on and dance with Craig and celebrate all you have built together!

Kara D - oh my goodness that song! thanks for making me cry this morning before my first cup of coffee meg 🙂 thanks for sharing!

TinaM. - man do I wish I lived close!!

Ann R. - hello. left an email indicating i would love to come, but on the blog, it would not allow me to click over when i clicked on craftweekend and the button….left that in my email – when is it? also forgot to leave my name on the email – oops.
crazy how the kids get so big fast, i remember people saying to me, they grow up so fast (when mine were toddlers) and at the moment when you are IN that you think ok, but now that they crazy got big on you – you really do wonder where the time went – my 13 year old boy is also taller than me and wears a crazy big shoe – how did that happen????

a-m - I love popping over to read about you, it’s honestly a highlight in my week, although I’m aware I’m a very quiet visitor!
I read about your craft weekends a while ago and was very envious. So I’d love to come, but won’t be able to (I live in the UK), so have fun and please post pictures – I’ll be joining you in spirit, have fun!

Michelle from Australia - When are you going to come to Australia and do some family photos? Or host a craft weekend? Or just talk to your fans here? We are waiting Meg 🙂
p.s. I will be in the USA sometime next year. My best friend is moving to San Francisco for her work. I’ve told her she and I might NEED to do a road trip to Kansas. She asked why. I told her that Kansas has the best rainbows I’ve ever seen 🙂 She said that sounded like a good enough reason to her!

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - I’m with Melissa! Craft weekend counselors… kee hee.

Breeanna @ a brilliant melody - I love that song by Brad. My husband and danced to it at our wedding two years ago 🙂

Kelly - I am one of those people who gets up super early to get the grocery shopping done. It’s awesome. 🙂

nicole @ deliajude - i just sent an email. ack.

Melissa - Can I come as a craft weekend counselor? 🙂
Oh, or maybe as a maid.
Kimberlee and do the cooking and I’ll do the cleaning!
I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Best weekend ever!

beth e. - no first dance?…what a bummer! Back in 97 we tied the knot and had our first dance to tim and faith’s it’s your love….still remember that. Wish I could come over in my p.j.’s and eat cheesecake, and be crafty with lot’s of funny ladies. hmm…but that’s a long way from vancouver island british columbia (home)

Dana @ Bungalow'56 - I might consider pretending to be a crafter, just to see your beautiful house. But I’m an honest person, so I can’t.
Dana

april - Hmmm how long of drive is it from california to kansas? 🙂

AshleyAnn - He is cute…some days I think teenage boys will be awesome to have in this house. Then I think…wait they are cute boys…teenage girls at my house to see my cute teenage boys. Maybe not so awesome.
Yeah for Craft Weekend at your house!

Leah - Woo hoo! I believe I’m on the list too since I got an email from Kimberlee. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. And yeah, I hear you about not being a morning person. It does sound so delightful though. I will never be able to conquer Black Friday.

Holly - awesome! I emailed a long time ago and got a reply from Kimberlee saying I was on the waiting list so I assume I am good for a chance?

hannah - oh! i want that cookbook-blueberry buckle-holla.
the earrings are ADORABLE.
hooray for rainbow toes!
AND hooray for toads! i had a huge terrarium on my window seat-in my bedroom-when i was a kid. toads and lizards were my fave. it also kept my mom out of my room;)
delightful post! xo

Sharla - Love this – really want to get that magazine now too! loved the frog pic – in a birdcage. . . too funny!

Heather @ Cookie Mondays - all FUN stuff!

Jessica - I’m in Phoenix and it’s about 116 lately…excessive heat wave. Yuck! Love the rainbow toenails. My Sophia asks for them constantly, guess I’ll break down and buy the actual rainbow colors…way more fun! Happy Fourth!

Holly - Oh girl those muffins look yum! We made a toad house out of a clay pot for our toad….not sure he uses it but its cute!

james @ agirlcalledjames - i always enjoy your pictures. i would have been impressed if you told me that your friend was in a magazine. you would have had to show me the article too haha.

Joy - I realize I need to step up my working when I read your blog. I only have one color of polish in my house and it is champagne. How boring is that?

Martha - Was it a smaller toad… you know they will eat each other!

Doris - again so much happiness from your blog 🙂

andrea - Loved the nail polish photo. I FINALLY found a green that I like – Make Mine Lime by Nicole by OPI. My toes have been green all month! Probably should change it to red for the 4th!
Also, toads do not like to be moved to a new place. I found this out last year when I kept trying to bring toads from my dad’s house to mine. They kept disappearing; I kept blaming the dog. Finally, asked the “Turtle Lady” at a library program and she said I needed to find some eggs or tadpoles in the spring and bring them to my house. Hah! Like that happened! 😉 (Hope that didn’t sound ‘preachy’ – wasn’t meant to be.)

Emily - Meg,I just love your blog!
That’s all. I just love it.

Amy @ dwell in the season - The clouds have been like that in Denver – just crazy! Cute post today!

lauren - i sent my daughter to kansas on a mission trip today. i told her to wave to you.

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Okay, the toad thing…so never happening here…ICK, ICK, ICK, but I do love the Farm Chicks.

Nichole Kopp - The The Farm Chicks cookbook yes a must have but going to the The Farm Chicks antique show……..heaven on earth! This year was my third year attending and each time I’m speachless. Amazing displays, fun people, great ideas and endless treasures to come home with! Worth the trip to Spokane! I have a guest bedroom your welcome to join me next year Meg! Check out the amazing pics on her blog of the show.

Gemma - Loving the Blueberry buckle goodness!!
Gemma x

Kristina Carter - oh i just got “The Farm Chicks in the Kitchen” and i am in LOVE too!! isn’t it fabulous!!

Jennifer - You are such a good mom to put up with the toads. I could NOT do it! The kitten would already be a permanent member of our indoor household, but the toads. NO WAY! 🙂

Linda - Just love when you do these kinds of posts! So much fun!

Angela Atkins - That Farm Chicks book is on my Amazon wishlist–and with this post I just realized it is a new month today and I can buy it!
Thanks for sharing a bit of your life with us everyday, by the way. I know it’s not easy in the middle of life. I think of posts I can make on my blog but they are just all jammed up in my head and on my camera, waiting for me to do them.

This Farm Family's Life - LOVE this post. As a farm gal myself, I may just have to invest in that cookbook!
http://www.thisfarmfamilyslife.blogspot.com

Perrin - Love that photo of the nail polish. With two little girls there is lots of nail polish time at our place too. So fun.

Dawn - Loved the picture of the toads.
I love reading your blog, you have so many great ideas. I was wondering what are some things you do with the other kids? I recently got married and my husband has a teenage daughter and I’m running out of fun ideas that we can do that is not too kiddy and fun for a teen.
Thanks

happygirl - Awesome Kansas sky. Yucky toads (I’m glad they’re free). Gorgeous earrings and toenail choices. Could you be having more FUN!!

Katie - Loved the video earlier this week! I noticed that you have what I think is painted brick (fireplace) in one of the rooms. I REALLY want to paint our fireplace white. Just wondering if I need special paint for that?

alicia @ la famille - oh those earrings! how fab are those?! sooo meg 🙂 i love that cookbook…have had it for a couple years and need to make more from it. have a good one 🙂

Cyndi Hamilton - I love The Farm Chicks!! Serena has a great blog!
Toads are the cheapest form of summer entertainment. My sister and I used to catch buckets of them on our farm, now my kids do it.
Thanks for sharing,
Cyndi
http://mycharmedlife-cyndi.blogspot.com/

Necole - I am going to have to pic up that mag on my mommy outing tonight. Grocery shopping with no children = heaven!

Julie - I bought that FreshStyle magazine yesterday and enjoyed reading it from cover to cover while sitting on a swing near Lake Michigan. It was a delightful afternoon!

flowerpowermomma - personally, I stay away from toads, frogs, etc. Kudos to you for the close-up photos and adventures! and keeping fingers crossed there is no ‘house-frog’.
Those muffins look amazing. I made blueberry muffins this morning too. Will certainly check out your recipe though.
re: the blueberries..if you have too many.. freeze them. I buy lots in the summer when they are on sale, then wash, drain, freeze on a cookie sheet on a cotton towel, then pop them off the towel and into a freezer bag. Works great. You have the freshest berries all winter.

Kori - you need to come to a farm chicks show here in spokane…fun stuff!! 😉 love love love talby’s earrings and the toads in a bird cage made me laugh out loud!! too funny! although i have the same question as lisa ↑, were they in your house while one escaped?? that would freak me out. not a fan of ‘jumpy things’…

Laura Phelps - YOU ARE SOOOOOO WELCOME! I am just so happy I finally MAILED the package! Sat on my counter for two weeks…but HAD to get them for the girls…
they are colorful and happy and reminded me of you!!!!!!
I am LOVING….you!

Jodi @ The Un-Soccermom Blog - love your “loving” post! I’ve got to check out that mag!!

Lisa - My husband would have a heart attack about the toads. He HATES frogs/toads. Does that mean the escaped one is in your house or where they outside!? 🙂

Leah - Thanks for all the great inspiration today! I can’t wait to check out the Farm Chicks. Hadn’t heard of them before. And I LOVE those earrings! Too cute! Happy July 4th weekend. Can’t wait to see what you’re up to for the holiday.

Trinda - Ah, that railroad picture… I grew up in Hesston, lived in Newton twice(on First St. and Walnut St.) We are in Wash DC now and I miss KS fiercly (is that a word?) sometimes. Non-Kansans can’t understand. Love to read about your sweet family and am inspired by your blog!
Trinda

Doris - one of prettiest posts!
Your daughter is so sweet and it’s so vivid how smart and bright she is.

alphabetmomma - Love randomness! Annie is so cute! Her haircut…I love it! Bunny ears on the cheeseburger made me laugh out loud! Sippy cups are great! I’m always baby hungry and I have 6 kiddos!

carly - love the print…but can u also tell us where u got the frame??????

Jessica @ These Are The Days - Love the framed saying.

Necole - Do not tell me that Wal-Mart is having a sell. I am trying to save money. I love the sunflowers. I think I will buy some today.

Suzy Adams - Meg,
I just wanted to say THANK YOU for making my mornings so bright! I am a mom and a first grade teacher. I start off each morning checking out your blog for a colorful start to my morning. You always brighten my day. It is summer vacation for both of us, and we are in the process of making our second annual “Summer List”. Last summer we had 88 activities to conquer!
Happy Summer,
Suzy

karen - Off topic question. What do you do when your kids won’t eat what you made?? Do you constantly yell to make them eat (like i do) or do you just let it go?

Cheryl - Great pics! Your blog always makes me smile 🙂 Love the print – just ordered one myself for the kitchen. TFS!

Jenna - Looks like Annie had the best day! By the way, I just love her name!
Jenna

Gabrielle - You are just the best blogger ever!

nancy - I had to go to the grocery store at 6 this am due to an intestinal gift for my daughter (hello, summer!) and the weather reminded me of KS… dark clouds, warm outside, wet from rain. loved it. I was also walking by a mirror the other day, caught a quick glance and thought i saw my mother… it was me! crazy.

Trina - She is the cutest.. I love the “Be Awesome Today” print. I need to work on that. I have been thinking a lot about you and your 5 littles and how you do it.. how you stay sane, how you get everything done and so on. You are one amazing lady!!! Hope you have a relaxing weekend! xo
Trina

Jen - Love the sign! I have a vinyl sticker on our main door that says “Return with Honor”–a good reminder for ALL of us! Have a great weekend. We are sending 2 of 4 kids to camp next week and I have to admit, I am looking forward to some quiet! HAHA

Kayla - You get stuck in the BEST places! You should post a picture of your dad so we can decide if you look like him or not!

Sugar Mama - Is it crazy that at the end of this post I was crying? Seeing her at the donut shop and story time makes me miss that age SO much with my daughter (who is now 8). And as my 14 year old son becomes more and more like a moody teenager, and my 12 year old son nears 13… I’m just getting so emotional these days!

Tami - Can i just say Annie is adorable! I love the bunny ears on her cheeseburger! :0)

Gemma @ Musings of a gem - Love that awesome print!

shauna - love the look on your face friend.
i know that kinda happy.

Cindy - I love the storm picture. I love the happy face with shake and cheeseburger picture too. I mostly love how you take pictures of the most random-everyday things because it reminds me of the beauty around me all. the. time.

mrs. may - Sunflowers are so gorgeous! And I want to see this clearance table!!

Kirsten J - Love the nails, love the memory you brought back of visiting my great grandma in Garden City Kansas about 30 years ago and those storms rolling through, love all of the pictures (as usual) and I love that you are soaking her up. My baby went to camp a few weeks ago…and I was so sad. And didn’t quite get the moms who were all “ah! she’s fine, we’re going out to dinner!” Because I have one in college, and you blink and there you are.

Mindy Harris - this post is so precious. i like seeing pics of your everyday life. i am impressed by the flashlight beam annie colored…!

Peta - I just ordered that print – thank you! Did you put yours in an ikea frame? What size? Thanksx

adrienne - send us the rain!!!!

Londen - I just love that Annie…she could not be any cuter! I only have one who is five, sometimes its hard because I’m her playmate.
Love the new print too.

Kelly - What a happy, fun, wonderful post. Sorry you guys were stuck but if you had to be stuck somewhere it seems like a donut shop’s not too bad. Kelly

Lisa - your blog makes me smile! a lot! a lot a lot!
i also have an annie – she is 10 years old! she is named after her great grandmother! her nickname was annie pickle – because she was famous for making pies and preserves! my annie is the 7th on my hubby’s side of the family! happily, she has also inherited the annie pickle nickname!
tell your annie that my annie says hi!

Ashlyn@Pinecone - Love the “5”…I have one too.
Lovin the peek at your porch…and the new print. xo

amy b. - Love the sunflowers!! All the ones at our grocery store were dead! Boo! Now you’ve got me wanting donuts and a little girl as cute as Annie! Oh, and by the way, I was awesome today!! LOL!

julia - Love the sombrero hat project!
Your flower arrangement is beautiful. And your train pic makes me want to visit the center-ish of America.

Jennifer - SCORE on the 75% off table! Congrats. And btw, every time I see your super cute short hair style, it really makes me want to chop mine off. Especially in this summer heat. Hummm…I’m still pondering that one. 🙂

Holly - I loved everything about this post. So real life! Our big girl is going away next week for a mission trip. I am so proud but she will be missed. I love it when I get good deals. I have scored 2 new globes this week. One for $5 and one for free because I asked a friend if he had any laying around. And last…dont you love hydrangeas? They are my very favorite!

Michelle - can we see the table. . .pleeeease!

Staci - I love her bunny ears on her burger 😉 I am excited it’s almost Friday for Annie!!!!!! YAY!!!!

I hope your day is awesome too.
Love that you are enjoying special time with little Annie, sunflowers and a discounted table.
Are you going to let us in on the baby comments?!

Terrie G - LoVe the last flower pic!! And how awful to be stuck in the doughnut shop! I’d take some of that rain! 🙂

shelley - annie is just so perfectly cute !! and hey..there is the train my husband drives..BNSF. We always say it stands for “better not start a family”…because railroaders are never home !

Susan - My daughter is nearly 11 and yes I still make her use sippy cups or the take and toss ones with straws…she doesn’t mind but her friends think I’m wierd.

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - You, Annie and this post are Awesome. Happy almost Friday!

Shannon - Looks like great bonding time with you and your baby girl! Yay for being stuck at the donut shop and a Walmart table at 75% off. Annie is so darn cute 🙂

Logan - I love that little girl. She is just precious and I know you and Craig have to be so proud of her. I’m sure she is loving her “mom” time this week.
The flowers are gorgeous!

Kori - um, i wanna hang out with you guys! stuck in chili’s *and* the donut shop due to storms?? awesome!!! 😀 and i love that annie gave her burger bunny ears…my son used to do that to everything!

Kimberly Dial - Love the sign. Want one. Thanks for the link. Congrats on the table. Don’t ya just love when you want something but you wait & it pays off? Yep! Me too!

Kimberly Dial - Love the sign. Want one. Thanks for the link. Congrats on the table. Don’t ya just love when you want something but you wait & it pays off? Yep! Me too!

Meg @ Everyday Nostalgia - Totally need that be awesome print!

happygirl - I can’t wait for Friday, too. This has been as long a week for me as it’s been for Annie. I need the “Be Awesome” sign for me when I walk out the door. (LOVE bead board) I miss trains. I’m from the mid-West and now live in the east. Commuter trains aren’t the same as TRAINS in the mid-west. Hang on Annie, it’s almost Friday.

Rachel J - Seriously Meg, I love you!
Something about getting a table 75% off at Walmart really knows how to make a girl happy 🙂 Been there, done that.
I’m pinching pennies and crossing fingers so that I can make it to Craft weekend! And I’m the first to comment on this post! Wooo!

alicia @ la famille - wow! isn’t that amazing! so fast…kinda like our kids. or so every one tells me. 🙂

elisa - just like kids! awesome capture of their short time in the nest!

Heather R. - I showed our girls the pics. That’s so cool was their response. I don’t think I realized how fast it all continues. Thank you for sharing…

Shelly - These are amazing, I have been stalking your blog for quite some time. I can’t get enough of your photography. Do you think you’ll turn this into a series?? And sell it on etsy?? so we can all buy it???
xoShelly
http://www.gslillian.com

melanie - how did you get the photos of the baby birds to line up and across like in a grid like that? how cool. thank You for always seeing the beauty in life.

marisa - just amazing. thank you for doing this post.

Heather - Oh my goodness, this was unexpected and made me cry! I’m just emotional…my baby turns 1 in one month. ;)I know, it’s a little different.
I love your blog! Thanks for sharing.

Midwest Magnolia - Melissa Lewis - I have the SAME thing going on at my house, except my robin decided to build her nest right on my front door grapevine wreath. Mine are still beautiful blue eggs, and I am anxiously waiting to see some babies. Funny enough, my mom had this happen to here last month on her front door arrangement too. She sent me text pics every day to see their progress and now she’s all said they left the nest.

Leigh - Wow – such amazing photos!!!

FireMom - Wow. This is amazing. Thank you!

Cara - Get ready for round two!

Stefanie - Wow, that nest is very clean! We had a nest in a wreath on our front door and I think the babies finally moved out because the nest was FILLED with poo…I spent hours sanitizing my front door! I almost just threw it away and bought a new one it was so gross 🙂

Wendy - The 5/15/11 pic rocks! Makes me smile 🙂
Thanks for sharing.

Kayla - Wow! That really happened fast. I am glad human babies don’t grow up and move out that quickly!!!

Annika - They grew so quick! Thanks for sharing your birds. Next year, they’ll have babies of their own!

happygirl - btw, I’ve found robins usually use the same nest twice. If you leave it there, she will return. Of course, that assumes nothing happens to her.

leonieke - i think motherhood is so special for birds. They enjoy their eggs, birds, watch them fly out. enjoy a period without childeren and then make some new ones!

hannah - little birdies grow up so quickly!
love all of your sweet photos of them:)
have a great week! xo

AshleyAnn - that is incredible…way to go capturing it!

April M - ty for sharing. just ty ty ty.

kim - amazing. love that you kept a chronology of them. love that you shared it too. 🙂

dana - Wow. Amazing photos. Thank you for documenting that for us!

Yaz - Awww so cute. It feels like my little guy is growing just as fast.

Dawn - The pictures were beautiful. Love them. We just found a robin’s nest too.

Terrie - No Way!! Seems like my kids did the same thing! Well, it does now…sure didn’t in the middle! 🙂

se7en - I am so glad that our little human fledglings last a lot longer in our nests!!! Have a fun day!!!

Janie Fox - And now I am singing I’ll Fly Away…love that old song! Now I betcha it will be stuck in your head:)

Janie Fox - I had 3 the grand kids and I watched …they were just about a week ahead of yours. Wished I would have taken pictures.

Life with Kaishon - Oh.
My.
Goodness.
Perfect post.
Fly away little birdies.
Fly away.

Kimberly Dial - Before ya know, they’re gone (sniff, sniff) … poor momma bird. I know the feeling! 😉

Kimberly Dial - Before ya know, they’re gone (sniff, sniff) … poor momma bird. I know the feeling! 😉

Leslie - How cute are they!!!!!! I haven’t visited in a while, I am looking forward to some Whatever inspiration!
Have a great Tuesday

amy - love. it. and isn’t the blue of the eggs the most beautiful color ever?

jackie mccobb - Sad. Sometimes I feel like my girls are growing that fast. 🙁

happygirl - Wow, that went fast. The circle of life. thanks for sharing.

beth - We had some just about the same age on a very similar porch post. I was bummed to see them gone Sunday afternoon, as well.

Julia - I wad trying to think if something ….. But Tonya already said it better!

Leslie - That was fast – I had no idea. Thanks for the recap – I LOVE IT! I had been checking your blog daily to get updates 🙂

Kathy - What a neat documentation.

Kerry - aaah man! too fast! xx

Debbie - Wonderful photos! I’ve really loved this series. Maybe the mama will come back again next year!

Ali Richardson - WOW!!! I had no idea they grew so fast! Sorry you’re an empty nester. I wonder if you can spray something on it to preserve it and shadow box it. Is that weird of gross? It’s so pretty!

Cyndi Hamilton - Awe…it’s kind of sad! I too will soon have two little birdies(teenagers) leaving my nest.
http://acharmedlife08.blogspot.com/

Jenni - Aww. That makes me a little weepy.

Deanna - God is amazing isn’t he?? So neat!

Tonya - …and we thought our children grew up fast.

Shannon - I love it, they are so cute. Thanks for taking pictures and sharing your lil bird babies with us 😉

Mary - Do you think she’ll be back to have more babies this summer? We had barn swallows and they have multiple set a babies. So maybe, you’ll get the same!

anna - i am very impressed with the cleanliness of the nest. we had a turtle dove nest a few years back and let’s just say, they weren’t nearly as tidy! makes me wonder if you have bird poo all over the porch! lol

Kris - They fledge very quickly. Only two hatched? Did you take the third egg from the nest?

Ana M - How quickly they grow and go…you’re right that’s bummer…but this is the way life goes on, isn’t it? Thankfully our children take a little bit longer to “fly away”…Love

amy b. - do you think the mama has empty nest syndrome?

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - I love watching sweet little birdies and I can’t help but mention that she left her little home quite tidy when she left.

Holly - but we enjoyed watching them grow up thanks to you! That sure was quick though!

random.

annie came running inside during the wiffle ball game with everyone while i was fixing dinner and yelled

"mom…did you see me out there?!  i was beasting it up!!!"

IMG_2375-1

we both thought her new swimsuit looked like a leotard for gymnastics.
which is perfect for jumping on the trampoline….or playing wiffle ball….or walking the dog…..

………………………………………………………………..

our baby birds on saturday.

unbelievable how quickly they change!!

IMG_2601-1

………………………………………………………………..

on thursday night craig took me to see Tim Mcgraw in concert.

oh my.

i have loved tim since i was in high school.
we had no camera and we have crummy cameras in our phones…..but there he is.

IMG00106-20110519-2247

he is timeless.
and handsome.
and lovely.

i was so happy.
i think i kept saying "i am so happy!"

craig isn't a big country music fan…..not much at least….so he gets big points for bringing me.
his friend bought him a shirt to wear to play basketball in at the gym .
🙂

IMG_2845-1

HA HA HA

but seriously now…..tim mcgraw is awesome.
i have all his music.
and i had a surreal moment at that concert thinking
"i have loved this song so much for so long and here i am with him singing it in front of me….wow."

not this song…but this one is a recent, catchy, happy one and looked like what i saw at the concert.

as much as i love kings of leon, U2 and the black keys…..i love country music that much too.

and he is my favorite of all the cowboys.

best thursday night evah……

Walter Tully - Tim McGraw is awesome with a capital A, isn’t he? He’s so electrifying on stage. Even if you’re not a fan, you can’t help but admire and respect the man. He is country music at its best.

melissa @ theshabbyfarmchick.blogspot.com - k i want to know if you slightly suggest these outings or plan it your self or does he surprise you ALL BY HIMSELF??? just want to know how stellar he is because he sounds pretty stellar.
of course he would have to be to snag you 🙂

Michelle - SWEET!!!!! I like tim McGraw too. and I love that his marriage has stood the test of time.
That picture of your husband in his tshirt is awesome.
Found you under hte Blogher ad.

Elizabeth Leitko - Annies Comment totally make my day!! I am a kindergarten teacher and she would be AWESOME to have in class!!! I too love me some Tim McGraw!!! Happy Monday!!!!!

Kim Wickerham - Hey Meg,
For months now I have wondered…what is the schedule that you have up on your chalkboard? I have seen bits and pieces of it, but haven’t ever been able to put it all together. I am a busy Mom in dire need of some more organization. So, any help is appreciated. is it a chore chart? Thanks! Kim

Jenna - That video made my rainy, wet Monday! Country music is the BEST, and not a lot beats a hot cowboy like Tim 🙂

Jenna - “beasting it up” Gotta start using that!
Jenna
momofmanyhats.blogspot.com

meghan - i felt like that at U2 this weekend. i may have shed a tear.

Laura - I couldn’t remember where in Kansas you live. I hope it’s not anywhere near where the tornado came through. I’ve checked here several times this morning, hoping to see something from you. Praying you’re okay….

amy b. - I live near Nashville and was shopping at Old Navy one day and guess who walked in…yes, Tim McGraw…I thought I was gonna wet my pants!!! He was on the phone and nobody bothered him. He picked up a pair of jeans and threw them over his shoulder!! Who’d of thought that he bought his jeans at Old Navy!! He is very handsome in person, btw!! And I loooove Annie’s leotard!! So cute!

happygirl - LOVE Tim McGraw. I’m not really a country fan, but LOVE him. I saw him on Who Do You Think You Are. It was really good and he seemed so real. Rich, but real. Isn’t he the guy married to Faith Hill? I love Annie’s suit. cute.

holly - that girl is a hoot.
your husband is beast.
tim mcgraw is dreamy.

Heather - It’s nice to see someone else has as eclectic taste in music as I do!

Elizabeth - that song makes me happy!
and so does watching annie happy

Ann Griffin - Love country music and Tim McGraw! Craig does get big brownie points for this – maybe he could talk to my husband. . . :o)

colleen from alabama - Love country music but my all time favorite anything is James Taylor and my hubby is taking me to see him tomorrow night!!!! YIPPPPEEEEEEE!!!! Have seen him multiple times before but every time is special! He is amazing in concert. Anyway, i get the whole surreal thing, have had those moments myself. Glad ya’ll had such and awesome time together. 🙂

lisa reed - Love TIM. Love. Haven’t seen him in concert since the last Soul to Soul tour with Faith Hill; he is so great onstage. My all time favorite song of his is Angry All the Time. No idea why, it just has always been my fav. (Even though I am not particularly angry all the time.) 😉
Loved Summer magazine! Have a great day!

james - That is so awesome. I love me some Tim too.

Alicia - You just went up 10 points in my book for being a country music lover 🙂
My friends tease me like crazy for liking it- let’s just say that here in Sydney, Aus, country music isn’t the coolest thing 😉

Carol S - Whoah, that guy is a major stud, how hot is he? That basic tshirt and jeans (practically skin tight?) with the big guns, oh my. So cute. Great stage movement, thanks for sharing on a Monday morning. I believe he’s tight with Faith Hill so I guess there’s no chance for the two of us, huh? lol

Donna - Tim McGraw – say no more. He oozes with “hot NESS”. I saw him in Las Vegas and I also saw him many years ago and Faith Hill was his warm up – before they were married.
Got my Summer Magazine – I really enjoyed the spread on you. I love that magazine read it from cover to cover.
Annie is adorable as always 🙂
Have a great day Meg.

danielle burkleo - i love that annie says beasting it up..my kinda girl

Jen - OK…have you ever seen Keith Urban live? I sort of liked his music before last summer, when I saw him at an outdoor concert…and I have been the biggest fan ever since. He is also amazing. And his songs….swoony.

Kerry - aaaah – i love country music, and LOVE that song! Your man is hilarious – such a ‘Tim’ pose.. haha – way to go Craig 🙂

Mindy Harris - glad you got some time away with your hottie!

Sarah Wolfe - I love the trampoline pic!

Kristin Bommer - hahaah go annie!! lookin good little lady! 🙂
i LOVE tim mcgraw. when i was in college, all my girlfriends went to a tim mcgraw concert and made t-shirts based on his lyrics. mine said “Tim! Don’t Take the Girl! TAKE ME!”

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Tim McGraw, my heart be still. Glad you had a great time with your hubby that definitely gets points for taking you to his concert.

pam - those baby birds are so ding dong ugly. 🙂
we made people sing george straight at our wedding. it was like my 1 year of love for country music and then it ended. right after my wedding. 🙂
miss you. hope i see you soon.

Janie Fox - I had baby birds and before I took pictures, I kept meaning to and kept forgetting to, they grew and flew! I also love Tim McGraw . Saw him once in Champaign IL with Martina McBride. Awesome! Glad you had fun. Annie is a doll! My Annie is almost 29 *tears*

Necole - I am a girl from Texas, so my all time fav cowboy is George Strait! That cute swimsuit gave me some ideas for my girls.

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - Annie cracks me up. Love her “leosuit” and her “beasting it up.” Shes awesome:)
xo,
Sarah

Flower Patch Farmgirl - It’s hard for me to fully trust anyone who dislikes country music. Just fyi.

shelly - I love that Annie walked the dog in that outfit—we would be perfect neighbors–our son rides his bike in full iron man costume, except the helmet hurts so he drapes a bath towel down the back of his head under the helmet (I think he likes the way it flaps when he rushes down the sidewalk!).
Tim McGraw hands down fav! (We’ve listened to him since high school too..one of the few country singers we listen to). So jealous!

michele fry - I knwew you were a girl after my own heart and cut from the same cloth….this post proves it!!! Love me some Tim McGraw!!!!

jennibell - There was something about that Tim McGraw video that reminded me of Friday Night Lights (the television show). . .ha! Wasn’t he in the movie version? Love Craig’s picture — what a good sport.

Holly - So funny you post about Tim Mcgraw. I feel the same way about Jason Aldean. I lurve Jason Aldean! SO cute too, ha!
Annie does look cute in her swim suit. I taught Brian (my kindergartener soon to be first grader, booooo) how to do laundry after reading about Annie. He is obsessed. He begs to wash a load, haha!
The birds are getting so big! Crazy!

Dishes in the Dryer - Dude I just posted about how big our baby birds got!!!! http://www.dishesinthedryer.blogspot.com. We saw them one day and it was only a few weeks before they busted out of the nest and we were lucky enough to be there when they did!!! Our kids loved these little guys.
Congrats on your “babies”.

Jennifer christians - Yes Tim was fantastic! Great meeting you! What about Luke Bryan… HOT! Fantastic Thursday night!

Sandy - I love Annie’s style and Tim McGraw….and Garth Brooks. I need to find my old CDs…. Thanks for the video too – he’s fun to watch!

Kelly - Love the swimsuit and love Tim. What a great midweek date! Good for you. ~Kelly
http://deniablydomestic.blogspot.com/2011/05/behind-scenes.html

Jenni Carlisle - Annie in the swimsuit as a leotard stand in…awesome! I like how this girl thinks. Walking Waffle, that much better.
Craig in the TM shirt…cracking me up!
Tim McGraw is the real deal. Love him! Saw him in Dallas a few years ago and Faith came out to sing with him! LOVED IT!
PS My Best Friend is our wedding dance song, his voice reminds me always of the love oozing from my hubs on our wedding day….gives me goose bumps every time I hear him sing in a very innocent way! 😉

i can't believe that this is her real hair…..but i love it.
i wonder what her profession is that allows this hair??
something that is free spirited for sure.
it's pretty amazing…i think it's because of the pink that i love it so much.

……………………………………………

i forgot to tell you that as of spring break this year my kids have been doing
all of their own laundry.

IMG_1728-1
i am so happy about this.
they are in charge of it.
if they want clean socks then they need to think about it….
if they need their uniform clean….they had better make sure it's clean.
LIFE SKILLS baby.
they also benefit because we don't have to have family folding nights.
if you wash your own clothes then you only have to fold your own clothes!

one of you blog readers were the one who said that you do this and i would love it.
well YOU WERE RIGHT!

i help annie by putting it in the dryer for her because she is too short.
but otherwise even annie brings it downstairs, washes, folds and puts it away on her own.

……………………………………………

annie came into my dark bedroom to my bed and woke me up to ask if she could have oatmeal.
i sleepily said yes.
"mom….i can't remember how to make it."
i said "yes you do….2 of the 1/3 measuring cups of water and microwave for one-five-zero."

"please can you help me mom?"

"ok….i will be right there"

IMG_2272-1
 i am glad i went.

it's not oatmeal.

HA.

here are our babies this morning….in one day they grew SO much…and have teeny feathers too.
sadly the day that the third was hatching was the last we've seen of it.
there is no third baby any where to be found.
bummer.

i found this sweet short video on youtube of a robin hatching.
you can pretend it's our robin because it looks the same.
it was interesting to see the mama take the shell after they hatch….where?  where does it go?
i am going to find out these facts.
and we are going to craft about it for sure!

happy friday!

elisa - You have been on pinterest- I marked that shark watermelon too. Love it!

Jennifer Rubeck - I love this shark watermelon!!! My son is a huuuuge sea life/shark fan. He is going to love this. Thanks for posting it.

ashley jensen - First I have to tell you my husband took me to Target to buy a new purse and I picked up this cute yellow bag. When we got home with it I thought it looked familiar and sure enough it is the same one you got from The Pleated Poppy (only without the cute flowers)! Second, my inlaws have a birds nest that had 7 eggs (3 blue and 4 brown) and now there are just 3 babies. No sign of the brown eggs or birds. It makes me wonder if there were 2 different birds going to the same nest.

Jessica Jackson - Are you on Pinterest? I would love to follow you if you are. 🙂 I’ve seen that rainbow braid on there is why I ask. And oh lordy, when my babies are old enough for laundry it.is.on!

Karen Lehmann - YOU MAKE MY DAYS HAPPY 🙂 that is all. oh..except…. Can a person who is not crafty but wants to learn to be crafty come to the craft weekend? just checking. {insert giggle}

mandi@herbanhomestead - Wow! that video is awesome! The mama taking the egg shells- that explains why I sometimes find robin’s eggs in random places, with no trees about! I think they must just dump them wherever to keep the nest clean.
Oh- and french toast kabobs! Genius! That is going on my birthday breakfast list for my little buddy!

Christie-Childhood 101 - That shark is awesome! My three year old loves watermelon and would love a shark like that 🙂

Erica - So, I clicked on the picture of the french toast, then clicked on the picture again, then clicked on the link in that post, then read the original author’s post, but she never says exactly how she made those french toast kabobs. I assume she just made regular french toast and then cut it up and stuck it on. They must have been cold by the time she served them. The bridal shower she made them for looked awesome, though!
I love seeing what people link to in their blogs. The bloggy world is getting so big; there are so many fun things I would never see otherwise. Thanks for sharing, Meg!

Rachel Newswanger - The laundry room–awesome! The rainbow hair–eww. Tell me how a mother robin can just bop around the nest & poke & prod & her baby thrives, but whenever bb birds were discovered in my childhood we could never keep’em alive, even the best of efforts. Must be God.

Molly - In case you wanted to see more of the rainbow hair, here is her photostream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wisely-chosen/

x♥x♥, gina - LOVE the laundry idea – the best part would be the no mountains of laundry to fold!!! And I bet it would cut down on number of outfit changes per day – I have four girls -the number is RIDICULOUSLY high!!!

lindsey - Hello Meg,
I just wanted to let you know how much your blog means to my wife, Lindsey. Our entire family, including 4 foster children we love as our own, has been through a lot in this past year. Nobody has bore more of the burden than my wife. She is the glue that holds our entire immediate and extended family together, a true example of a “salt of the earth” woman who exudes love to everyone. We lost a very beloved brother in law to a long, tough battle with cancer. He was 22 and only married to my sister in law for 6 months. My wife is/was the main person taking care of her sister in this very tragic situation. Her sisters situation continues to be a struggle. We then found out our babies (then our 5th foster child) mother was murdered, and after caring for him for nearly a year he went back to an uneasy situation, to put it best. We continue to struggle with that reality. Lindsey’s very beloved grandmother also died amidst this mess. All of this while opening a new business. But God is Love, and God is good, and he continues to be with our family. You just never know how big of an impact your blog, or any other act of random kindness, can have. You have been a friend without knowing it, thank you for that. I have a story for you, from page 262 of The Hole in The Gospel, by Richard Stearns. But it won’t fit here, so i am not going to type it. But it is about the conversion of Billy Graham. Please read it sometime.
Thanks for Everything and May God bless you and yours,
Dan

Danielle - I love the french toast kabobs! We did those for my husband on Father’s Day a few years ago and were a big hit:) I saw a lady at the grocery store today that had rainbow hair and it looked totally cute! I think you should still do the pink:)

Stephanie - We did that exact shark watermelon about 2 years ago, I saw it in the newspaper and my husband said he could do it. We made it for a party and had to transport it (that was kinda hard). It sat on my lap the whole drive to the friends house!! Hit of the party though!!

Natasha - Thought you might like to make these for your robin-inspired crafty thing… your nest photos reminded me of them. http://oakhillsacademy.wordpress.com/2011/04/08/im-nesting/

Michele - That laundry room could be my happy place, for real. The watermelon shark is rad. I don’t think I’ve used the word rad in 10 yrs. I may just need to bring it back to my vocab. If Annie accidentally ate the onion soup instead of oatmeal she may have never ever wanted oatmeal again. That experience just might ruin a person. Glad you stopped that from happening. Have a great weekend, Meg!

Karmen - In response to Quinn’s post… It is amazing to see (although it’s poop)… they position their little bottoms toward the outside of the nest! Then when mom (or dad) comes to feed – they clean the nest too!! These birds are fantastic!

Quinn - I found your answer… unless someone else already posted it hhahahah.
“The female robin could not have moved the chicks to a different location. However,
adult robins will try to detour predators from their nest site if they can by using
a fake injury behavior as if the females wing was broken, or make a lot of noise
and lead the animal away from the nest. Females will even remove the egg shells
after hatching to a far away location and collect the fecal pouches the young
deposit and drop them far from the nest site. Both of these behaviors are to
avoid detection of the nest site. Yes, the young birds deposit their waste in
little pouches! ”
(via. http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/zoo00/zoo00904.htm)

Amy Petz - I can only go from personal experience with our pet chickens, but I think the mama ate the shell. Our chickens do it all the time, but maybe robins are more sophisticated than that.

Mrs. - I know it’s weird but we have a collection of robin’s eggs in my family. When we are out for a walk or anything, if we see them, we pick them up. I will e-mail you a photo.

Karmen - The mother (and father) clean the nest! Crazy! Not only do they take away the eggs once they’ve hatched… they clean the poo too! I included our story in the link with my name, we just saw our first 2 babies leave the nest successfully!

Cassie - I totally saw that rainbow hair on Pinterest a few days ago and thought of you! 🙂

Jenna - Hello Meg!
I am new to your blog, and I’m lovin’ the oatmeal story! Can’t wait to read more 🙂

becky@oursweetpeas - “did I ever tell you you’re my hero”
kids doing laundry LOVE LOVE LOVE it
mine are 10 months, 4 years and 4 years but they help me as much as I can stand (not the 10 month old) 🙂
seriously meg, that is “wind beneath my wings” stuff, sister!!!!
amen!

Dawn - I love the food. So creative and fun. Also I have loved looking at all the bird photos. Thanks for those.

katie - just watched that video (and saw annie doing her OWN laundry) with my 5 year old. we were both very impressed by both. i was explaining to her what “instinct” means…like how the mommy bird knows to take the shell out of the nest. too bad it doesn’t mean that kids automatically know how to do/want to do laundry.

erica - omgoodness! i am so trying to make that shark for the last day of school party!
thankyou:)
you’re the bomb for the laundry!
laughing about the oatmeal:)

Holly - My kids are starting their own laundry also. Its good.
That first picture with the fruit and yogurt….yummo!

Su@The Intentional Home - an older mom of 6 told me the secret of each kid keeping their laundry basket in their own room. .and then each doing their own clothes. . .it has transformed my life!!! We used to all just throw our clothes down this laundry shoot and a mountain would grow in the basement. . not anymore. I sometimes will do a load for a kid as a special way to love up on them. . .but even that is way easier cause you do not have to sort and try to figure out whose socks are whose. . .I love this laundry system!!! And yes, our kids will leave the house knowing how to do laundry!! Thanks for your regular posts. . I stop in almost daily. . .love the inspiration and happiness.

julia - So, when are you going to do your hair like that?? It would probably make a hair dresser cry.
What do you think happened to the third baby? Sad and strange.

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - I don’t think it was me that gave you the idea of having your kids do their own laundry, but mine do too. I used to feel guilty, like I’m a bad mom for making them do their own, but it really is a great thing. Not only do I not have the burden of making sure it gets all done and keeping track of what they need when they need it, i.e. baseball uniforms, etc., it does give them life skills and responsibility. I think we are actually good moms for having them learn to do their own. Yay for you Meg, good mom award! P.S. that is a really fun watermelon monster…might have to try that one!

Terrie - P.S. – Thanks for stopping by! Sorry it made you cry…if it’s any consolation…I cry every time I read it too, and I wrote the darn thing! LOL!! I’ll say it again…you are easy to be kind to! I LOVE your blog…I can’t tell you how many days you have perked me up with your pictures and words. I went back and got ‘caught up’ so to speak. It’s a little sad, your blog was my before bed read. My husband is probably glad though…’cause now I don’t wake him up with my laughing out loud!! Seriously…thanks for your kind words! hugs!

sara @ it's good to be queen - wow, i’m impressed with how independent your kids are. i’m thinking i need to give my kids some more responsibility. thanks!

Tam - HI Meg, I believe Kate S. (above) is right about the egg shells. We have a robin family nesting on my truck tire and I found the egg shells in my melon patch about 50 feet away from the nest.
I love the colored hair, for the last three months I’ve had some of my hair dyed (teal and now purple, next hot pink) it’s fun and unexpected! I love it.
You are an awesome, inspring Mama-I’m going to teach my boys laundry this weekend!
The food looks delicious, thanks for sharing! 🙂
Have a great weekend.

alamama - Meg, I know I don’t comment here much but I read your blog ALL of the time. Anyway, the kids and I just made silhouettes, inspired by you. Here’s the blog post: http://pressedpetals.blogspot.com/2011/05/profile-of-inspiration.html
Have a great day!

Jenny B. - The laundry. Wow. I am in awe. I have hope for the future! Too funny about the “oatmeal.” I didn’t even notice the words on the package until you said it wasn’t oatmeal. 🙂 Oh, and I’m pinning that laundry room!

Karen - Oh how funny (the onion packet)! And just today I was thinking (while dealing with mounds of laundry), this is silly – one person taking care of 5 people’s laundry. Not silly… INSANE! So I will be training my troops this weekend!!! Yay for me!!! I think I will be making the French toast kabobs this weekend too! Thanks for sharing! Have a happy weekend!

Heather R. - Love the rainbow hair. I let our girls get a couple of strands of colored hair put in for the summer only. They think they are cool. I’m glad you went and checked out the oatmeal situation. LOL. AND I’m so all over the do your own laundry. Great idea. Are you doin’ your summer list this year? Love the shark head, and birdies, too. 🙂

Mandy - Oh how I wish we werent STILL having those family laundry folding nights! I also have five kids, so I know the amount of clothes we’re talking about here. Ahhh, maybe this summer they can begin to learn this task, only two weeks of school left, hooray!

Esther Dee - what a great Friday post!!!! little bits of everything from food to decor to baby birds!!! Happy Friday Meg <3

happygirl - Love the post. Awesome mom teaching of life skills. Laundry on their own. Perfection. And now, all I can think of is mango.

elisa - Great post…..you sure saw a lot of stuff this week.
Love the video, can’t wait for the kids to get out of school so I can show them.

Kate S. - We have a bird garden and the birds greatly appreciate it. Every year robins nest in the Silver Maple there, above a large stone birdbath. And, every year, I find the cracked robin’s eggs in the birdbath . . . a sweet little sign the chicks have hatched: ) Supposedly, the robins are supposed to carry the eggshells and fecal matter far away from the nest to help deter predators from finding their hatchlings, but ours seem to figure the birdbath below is far enough.

Jodi @ The Un-Soccermom Blog - Okay… that video freaks me out a bit.
And now… I MUST paint my laundry room walls yellow.
Hurray for your kids doing their own laundry!!! It’s high time I teach Christen, she’s a senior in HS and will be moving out next summer to attend college. She needs to learn. :o)

Jemm - That hair is amazing! I would love to have the kabob recipe too. Yum! And I think I’m going to make granola and buy some clementines and mangoes to have on my yogurt!! 🙂 Fun random post.

Leah - That’s great about the laundry! My daughter is only 3, but I’ve started getting her involved by having her bring her laundry down and she puts it in the washer. We make it a fun thing to do. Hopefully she’ll still think it’s fun when she gets older!

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - What a great post- F.T.Kebabs(gotta try em!), rainbow hair(I flippin LOVE it but would never do it), that laundry room(I have it pinned in Pinterest myself…total LR envy here), the shark watermelon(so fun, esp for a pool party!), Annie doing her own laundry(go Mama Meg!), the birdies( I almost cried when you said the 3rd one is nowhere to be found…sniff sniff) and the onion soup mix/oatmeal story…awesome.
Have a wonderful weekend!
xo,
Sarah

shelly - Ok…if little Annie can do it, my boys sure the heck can…but what happens when they wash a crayon…or toilet paper (don’t ask…I don’t even want to know)
Love the shark watermelon!! Just need an excuse to make one 🙂

sarah - i used to wake my mom up to ask what the weather was going to be like. i know one day my payback will come… hopefully it has a funny ending like your “oatmeal” story

Cindy - The “oatmeal” CRACKED ME UP!!!

Lelia - So, I was hungry when I first started reading this post …. then I watched the hatching video – yikes!!! That was kind of … weird – for lack of a better word! I don’t like birds much though, but I am intrigued – where does the mama take the egg shells??? Happy weekend!

kerry - These pics have all made me smile 😉
Meg you have added happiness to my day ! Thank you so o o much. Happy Friday to you too x

Sarah Wolfe - Wow. Love that shark head too. Maybe for a beach party??!!
Love the laundry idea for my boys as they get older.

Terrie - My nephews are with me this weekend and I was leaning towards chocolate chip pancakes….but man those french toast kabobs look awesome! And what’s up with baby #3? Seriously gone?? Strange and sad…

Christine - When I read there was no third baby, I really was sad. I’m curious too where she takes the shells?
And the watermelon shark is too cool. 🙂

Oberheu.wordpress.com - Ok! I think I’m gonna try it…the laundry thing, not the rainbow hair:). I don’t think I’m a rainbow hair kind of girl.
I have three teenage boys and LOTS of laundry! The oldest does his own sometimes because he hates his clothes being lost in the abyss that is our laundry piles. Once clothes go in they can be lost for weeks! It is the biggest source of my frustration in our home. I think one of my boys may go everywhere in the same outfit…for a while. Or, maybe it will be me with no clothes to wear?! That would awful. And would probably make my guys laugh:).
Thanks for the motivation!

Jen - Hi Meg!
I wondered if you could tell me where you found the “french toast kebob” recipie….my daughter is
graduating from high school next week and we are having some family stay with us. This would be
perfect for breakfast.
Thanks,
Jen

Carla G - Thank you for the new birdie picture. And for finding the video! Very thoughtful, Mrs. D.! School children everywhere will appreciate it! 🙂

amy b. - ok,so now I’m craving french toast…and rainbow hair! And we are outta bread!Dang it!
