tagged

i have been tagged twice…
by amy and jimaie and kate.

so 7 more random things.
i was tagged way back in november too.

let’s see….

1. i have been to the oprah show.

Win0025_4

it’s almost 10 years ago now.
we lived in the chicago area and i called all the time when they asked for people to call in to be on a show to discuss a topic. it didn’t matter the subject i just wanted tickets. when i finally got someone to answer i was so excited. then the operator asked me “so you are a big tony bennett fan?” i said “um…yes. he’s like a frank sinatra guy right?” she semi-laughed. i told her i just wanted to come to see oprah. she put me on a list. they didn’t find enough tony bennett fans so i got to go! it was a show with the stars from general hospital…luke and laura? and then tony bennett sang and showed his paintings. it was pretty cool. i think i wore a navy blue jumper!! oh my goodness. hopefully we never see that tape.

2. i have seen every SNL show since high school.
it’s a weekly guaranteed laugh.
and to the people who say “it used to be funnier when….”
i question your loyality.
it’s always funny.
period.
i apologize ahead for the bleeped out swearing…
it’s worth it.

3. i hate american idol.
gasp!
did i admit to that?
well it’s true.

31009_3

i don’t like to watch any singing on tv so that show just makes me cringe.
i don’t watch the music on SNL either.
(unless maybe it’s U2)

4. if i am going to do sit-ups (that’s a big if) i have to be in line with something.
either straight in line with the wall or lining up with floorboards. does that weirdness make sense? i can’t concentrate if i am not straight. like in an exercise class…my mat and step must be straight exactly like the instructor.
there is no picture to go with my weirdness.

5. i have accidently locked my children in my car 4 times…as far as i recall.
it could be more.

Img_0978_2

*the first time was when lauren was a baby. i shut the door and realized immediately the keys were inside. it was raining. i stopped a woman walking by and frantically sent her to get help. she came running out of the mall waving her arms and yelling “DON”T WORRY! Mall Security is ON THE WAY!”
everyone likes that story.
*the second time i was at a gas station and i locked them inside with baby lauren.
craig had to drive all the way over and help me.
*the third time i had my daycare children with me. i parked in front of my apartment building then i locked them all inside. some were asleep, some weren’t. one of their moms showed up and i was in the parking lot and said “i locked the kids in the car. our janitor is getting an extra apartment key so i can get an extra van key. sorry.”
*and the 4th time…i hit the lock while i was loading in bags of dirt in my truck. this time it was running in the k-mart parking lot with 2 babies inside in their carseats. i had to run inside and call a friend to drive to my house and go in my back door and find my extra key and then bring it to me at k-mart.
it’s rough being my friend.
thank you again sue k. if you are reading this.

6. once in high school…my friend and i stole a straw dispenser from mcdonalds.

Img_0975_2

the entire big box that you push the thing and one straw rolls out.
isn’t that terrible?
but man, at 16 years old we sure thought it was hysterical.
especially every time we got a straw while driving in her car.

7. on my first date with craig we sang “Ice Ice Baby”.
“word to your mother”

we went cruising that night with it cranked up on his stereo in his little rusty mazda glc.
good times.

*************************************************

are you glad you asked amy and jimaie?
that’s doubtful…

elisabeth (bovagoods) - i have never locked my kids in the car but once in college i left my car locked and running in a walgreens parking lot. all night. while i went out. i ended up walking home at the end of the night because, well…safety! the next morning my friend called me. friend: “is everything ok?” me: “yea, i’m a little hung over, why?” friend: “your car is in the walgreens parking lot and it’s running.” me: “what the…oh crap!” sure enough my little 1992 honda civic was sitting right where i left it. exhaust coming out of the tail pipe. that thing still had a quarter tank of gas left in it too! honda wasn’t kidding around when they made those fuel efficient cars.

christine - meghan
don’t watch SNL
but you just gave me a great laugh!
love your 7 random things!
Christine

Chaos-Jamie - I gotta know who you were with when you stole the straw dispenser. How did I not know this?

lulu sparkles - you crack me up! I am too embarassed to tell you how many times I have played the Vanilla Ice clip 😉 thanx

Meredith - That is the FUNNIEST meme I have ever read! I’m going to start watching SNL again!
Thanks 🙂
Mere

Allikayes Mama - Ah! My friends and I stole a McDonald’s straw dispenser too! Ours was because of a crazy scavenger hunt in high school! Crazy times! We also had a chair from KFC!!

amy - Okay, next game night I wanna hear Craig sing “Ice, Ice Baby.” Dancing, too.

Kate of All Trades - I tagged you too for one of these. But you do not have to do it!

Jimaie - oh man I LOVE SNL. seriously some of the best laughs. ever.
for some reason i hate watchign the music ont here too, i’m not exactly sure why tho?
I WANNA GO TO OPRAH! no fair. I have been to a taping of The View before tho, not nearly as exciting as Oprah right?
omg you locked your kids in the car LMAO!!! so amusing. that i haven’t done. YET. there’s still time tho.

Amy Bell - Ok, I just read your post and laughed OUT LOUD. That SNL skit was a RIOT! Oh my word! So funny…great post. I have been reading for a while…you have a wonderful blog! 🙂

carissa - write a book… would you! you’d sell millions!
you crack me up!

Blanca - I’m right there with you on American Idol. Can’t stand watching it and it gets on my nerves when people here at work talk about it.
Blanca

Jill (One Wired Woman) - One more thing and I’ll back away from the keyboard… Does anyone remember the “Simma Down Now” SNL skit? It was so funny but so short lived! I’ll have to post that video on my blog for all to enjoy. Now I’m going to simma down with another cup of coffee! 🙂 ~Jill

Jill (One Wired Woman) - Stop!! Collaborate and listen… my hubby and I know every word to the song. We love to show off to our kids only to get “oh my mom and dad are so dorky” look from them. OMG!! I had a Mazda GLC in college too! Acronym for “Great Little Car” was what I told all my college peeps. 🙂 ~Jill

Liz - Ok, that Sat. Night Live skit you tagged on here had me in the FLOOR. By far, one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time. But sometimes I do miss the Church Lady. 🙂

traci - great random facts. i went to oprah once too. when we walked in and saw boxes of kleenexs under the chairs we knew we were going to see a fun one. it was firefighters who cheated on their wives after 9/11. deep. have a good day.

cynthia - i meant “sad”…

cynthia - i so know what you mean about “being lined up” while doing sit ups!
that goes for me to…in alot of areas.
said, i know.

preschool field trip

to the donut shop!
druber’s donuts is small town food at it’s finest.
nothing has changed in here in 30 years at least.
yet it’s charming…

Img_0959_3

Img_0937_4

Img_0928_4

Img_0931_4

i thought they made them all by hand??
they have these cool big cutters for different kinds of donuts.
the owner showed the kids how they make each kind.

Img_0940_2

Img_0944_2

and did you know when they fry them…they float?
i didn’t.
and he showed how they glaze, frost and sprinkle them.

Img_0946_2

and fill them with pudding.
i think i need a machine like this at home.

Img_0947_2

Img_0950_2

annie’s favorite kind…chocolate with sprinkles.

Img_0951_4

after all that they put them in the glass case.
wouldn’t it be fun to have a glass case at home too?
ha ha ha

i found this field trip so very interesting.
i am so glad annie begged me to come.
i was totally clueless about how donuts were made.
and now i am so hungry for a donut!

Camm - Love your blog! I may have commented once before, but can’t recall – wanted to let you know how much I look foward to your posts! I do have a question for you…I am in desperate need of suggestions…ideas for the perfect end of the year gifts for my daughters teachers…and for the preschool teacher that I help out…it is her last year…I want something that I can do with the students…to present to the teacher….would like to stay away from the typical hand-print, apple teacher tote type things that they all get! Any ideas? I sure would appreciate it!!
Thanks 😉

Sara - When I worked at Joe’s bakery in Lawrence I got to put the creme filling in the donuts. I also used to give free donuts to this one really hot guy and then a few years later we got married. ha ha. seriously, working there from 6 till midnight was so funny. At least I didn’t have to wear a hair net!

melissa @ the inspired room - Yeah, donuts float probably from all the fat. Just like I float to the top of a pool. 🙂 If you are muscular you go to the bottom. Not me!
I love how Annie is chewing on the side of the counter. I cracked up. Such a kid thing to do. And so sanitary. Where was her mother? (LOL, totally kidding). My son was just eating dinner with the most disgustingly dirty hands ever. Kids!
Such sweet photos, I need a donut. Oh, wait, no I don’t. We had strawberry shortcake for dinner. Well, dessert. We are really eager for summer.
Happy Thursday night!
Melissa

April - Yea..they float..I remember the first time I saw dounut made I was like…they float?? too….

Jimaie - that is SO cool! i love that they make them by hand, i bet they taste SO much better that way!
We used to have a Krispy Kreme in our town and i’d take my kids there for our own little field trips b/c they had a place where you could watch TONS of donuts being made…but then they closed them down 🙁 waa.
i want a donut.

Lee Ann - What fun! That’s something they’ll always remember. I can smell it now. My mom is a retired teacher. One year she had a student whose parents owned the local donut shop. They would wake him at 2am and take him to the shop and put him to sleep in the back room. He always smelled like donuts. That would almost drive me crazy. I’d want to eat one every day! Who doesn’t love a donut?

Jill (One Wired Woman) - Oh Yummy! Today’s post on my blog is about my son’s field trip too! Great minds think alike, right? 🙂 ~Jill

Gini - Oh my gosh those look fantastic….I need to step away from the photo and get back on the treadmill……..

kristin - it was good.
and i couldn’t believe the process. i will never underappreciate my drubers donut again.
glad you were there.
: )

chris - Yummy, and educational….

Lori - Hey Megan – Great to hear from you! I love reading your blog. You always look like you’re having such fun – not passed out with exhaustion, which is what I’d be if I had 5 kids! Maybe once you’ve survived Lauren’s teenage years you could pass on some tips for the rest of us? Good luck!!!
Oh yeah – we moved to New Jersey last summer when my husband got a job out here. We thought we were moving into the city, but we ended up finding this place out in the wilderness. It’s crazy with the bears! I do miss Chicago. What a great city. NYC is great, too, and not too far away. It’s a long way from Kansas, though!

carissa - now THAT”S what i call a field trip! 🙂
too fun

mom - Lorel – I never knew that you went for donuts after driver’s ed. Megan – did you get to do that too?
I took Macy to Crispy Creme donuts to watch these process. It was different there – much more high tech; everything on a big conveyor belt. I like both ways, but Druber’s is much more personable.

Liz - Wow. I’m so jealous. Maybe I can convince my bosses to take a day trip to the donut shop? Adorable pics.

lorel - Whenever we go to Druber’s with you, I am reminded of Driver’s Ed. when I was 14 (so young!). A group of 2 or 3 kids and Mr. Dutchendorf, our teacher, practiced driving on the highway, in town(with more than one stoplight), and parking skills. Then we would stop and get a donut. Probably why I am such a bad driver all these years – I was either too worried about GETTING to the donut shop, or my blood sugar was spiking and crashing if it was my turn to drive afterward. hee hee

candy - That looks like so much fun!! 🙂

traci - i’m hungry for a donut too!!! yum!

Crystal - I love how Annie is staring intently at that donut! Cute!

amy d - I told you it was a cool place!!! did they at least give everyone a free donut? you just made me crave donuts 🙂

warmth

i felt the warmth of the sun
and i felt warmth in my heart.
it sounds cheesy i know…

Img_0873_2

Img_0882_4

Img_0899_2

but when i can see this…
i am filled with hope for the future.
maybe someday they will get along.
maybe someday they will be able to…be friends?

Img_0904_2

oh i hope so.

Img_0857_2

the jump rope is talby’s new challenge.
she almost got 10 jumps yesterday…she is working for 20.

Img_0878_2

bring on summer!
we are ready for family games, swimming,
camping, bbq, campfires, bubbles, baseball and frisbee.
bring it on!

melissa @ the inspired room - Cheesy goodness.
Yep, we had a BBQ tonight followed by Strawberry Shortcake (as I mentioned in the next post). Maybe that will bring on summer.
Hey it looks like you must be making that dresser into a sink cabinet (by the previous commenter!)! I cannot wait to see how it turns out! We did that too at the beach house. It was a bigger pain than we originally expected but with the right sink it all worked out fine. I’ll show pictures soon. The hosue is getting close to being done!
Happy night,
Melissa

chris - I can not find your email??
I took a look at the dresser again, cutting down those supports will not destroy the integrity of the piece , you won’t be removing them just taking out enough to allow space for a sink, I will send you a photo of my sink installation if you like , if you email me please. Really no big deal , you will lose the drawer use but doable.
Chris

Tiffany C. - My brother and I used to practically try and kill each other when we were growing up and now we are the best of friends…. Keep the faith, there is hope yet :o)

Jennifer P. - I think the whole country got a nice day this week. What a nice gift for God to give us all.
Can’t wait for pictures of jumping from the trampoline into the swimming pool!

traci - it’s not cheesy at all. i love when the kids get along like friends. it is a wonderful feeling. don’t you wonder what was on annie’s mind when you took that picture. too cute.

emily loria - I LOVE SUMMER! Counting down the days….

carissa - oh not cheesy… just plain GOOD!
i pray my girls will be good friends… get along too! 🙂 goof balls… argue all the time.
summer shall bring on the best of times! yippee!

hipmomofboyz - I love the look on your daughters face in the second picture….

Lee Ann - My heart was so happy for a couple of days last week. The rain is back, but at least we know there’s hope. Bring on summer! I love that pic of Annie and the ice cream cone.

Kate of All Trades - Not cheesy at all. The sun is so good for us! We’re back to cold and wet but I still have some spring in my step left over from our summery weekend.

traci - Oh no, any mom with kids KNOWS exactly what you mean by the warmth in your heart when you see them all bonding and loving each other!!! My kids will ask around my birthday, mothers day, etc what I want and I mean it with ALL MY HEART when I say…for you guys to get along and love each other.
LOVE YOUR BLOG!!!

girls’ weekend

last weekend craig took the boys skiing in colorado.
that meant our house was all girls.
we kept busy.

Img_0682_2

we curled hair and painted nails.
went to the mall and window shopped.
spent time looking at everything in claire’s boutique

Img_0683_2

bought ring pops to keep annie happy
talby spent some allowance here on littlest pet shop toys.
(check out that floor at limited too…it was awesome!
wouldn’t that be great in the craft room?
ohhh…sparkley pink floors!)

Img_0687_2

i let talby try on expensive princess dresses
just for fun!!
she loved that.

Img_0694_2

we had to try the sunglasses in every store.

Img_0698_2

we went to the movie “Nim’s Island”.
annie slept through it.
hey look there’s lauren…
she was with us but not really “with us” if you know what i mean.

Img_0716_2

sunday we had a long walk/bike ride to sonic
rewarded with hot fudge sundaes.

Img_0717_2

threw rocks in the creek
looked for frogs but didn’t find any.

other things we crammed in:
swimming at the hotel
pizza hut dinner
ride bikes to school
and lots of cuddling

it really was a great time…
but we were so glad the boys were back.

we missed them.

candy - Not sure how I found your blog, but I love it! It is so fun. 🙂 I made your stuffed shell recipe last night and it was wonderful! I’m going to post about it on my blog today. 🙂 YUMMY!! Thanks!

chris - That sounds great, really wonderful.

Holly - So much fun and how precious they look- even sourpuss over to the side (texting?)
I noticed the floor before I read it and it is so cool. I also noticed the unique combo that Talby put together- totally her own.

hipmomofboyz - oh how fun. Can I come to the next girls only weekend? What is that like? SInce I spent my weekend watching 6 baseball games……
Let me know when the next one is and I will bring the fingernail polish and ice cream

Jimaie - what FUN girl time, i love the curled hair, too cute.
and OOoo! the sparkly pink floors are my FAVE!! i want those in my bedroom stat. how purty!!!

traci - wow – you got tons crammed in one weekend. and it all looks like fun to me. i notice lauren looking at her phone or something right away. how cute and normal she is. i would have loved to join you on the walk/bike ride to sonic. love walks and last summer while at the cabin we enjoyed our first trip to sonic – yummmmmm!!

Liz - Ooops, somebody already said that. I meant to say what a fandabidozy weekend!

Liz - What a fab weekend!

kristin - oh, we’ll get one of these soon too.
fun stuff.

Kate of All Trades - How fun! A girls weekend around here would just be me and the cat. She hates the mall.

Jennifer P. - There are few times when i am not completely content with my all boys, but when I see fun girls-only weekends, I kind of wish I had some hair to curl :).
Thanks for sharing all the lovely photos. I agree you should really have a sparkly pink floor for your craft room!

mom - Talby looks so pretty and grown up in her princess dress. I think Melissa has the answer to your outings with Lauren.

Blanca - Looks like so much fun. What lucky girls and I totally get you on the oldest because I have one of my own. Mine is usually too busy texting away that is until she needs something from me. By the way talby looks so much like you.
Blanca

Brenis - How FUN!!!!!! 😀
You are such an awesome mom! I think I need to expand into “girly world” and do something like this with my girls!! Thank you for sharing it!

melissa @ the inspired room - Totally fun! Except for your oldest, I know how they “go along” because they have to be a part of the family. My girls have sat through more cartoons at the theater than they care to remember. It is so hard for them, and hard for mom to pull everyone together in any sort of activity everyone will enjoy.
Hey, one idea we used was that our girls could bring along a friend when we went places, even to the beach for a vacation. It made them SO much happier. I didn’t love the idea of extra kids on a family day until we tried it and saw that the mood was elevated and the moping stopped. We could focus on the younger one and the older ones entertained themselves.
In spite of it all, it sounds like your day was a blast! Love all the photos!

jessi nagy - now that’s a fab weekend!!!
oxooxx,
jessi

Lanny Stanard - I’m thinking you had a great girls week-end.
Love the pictures.
Lanny.

hope your day is great.
we do love you so much.
we don’t see you enough.
we miss you.
have a great birthday!
we’ll eat some cake for you.

Jill (One Wired Woman) - Oh, Wow!! Yesterday was my birthday too! I’ve got Sherri beat by two years. Being “forty something” is fabulous! 🙂 ~Jill

Deanne - What a cute way to send Sherri a birthday greeting. I’m sure it was the most creative one she received!

jessi nagy - aaahhh this is so sweet.
you made her day!
oxoxoox,
jessi

Jimaie - this is so cute, mmmm, the top sign looks DELICIOUS!! LOL
guess what? you’ve been tagged, visit my blog for details! 😀

Sherri - AWWWWWW that was GREAT!!!!! THANK YOU ALL! I miss you guys too and love you!!

to do list:

1. clean up my bedroom

2. put away laundry

3. get groceries for sunday lunch

4. clean up craft room

5. find military school for 13 year old daughter

Img_0748_4

(i am kidding…..kind of)

melissa @ the inspired room - Been there. You’ll both get through it. It is a tough adjustment!
xo

traci - the good thing about 13 – it only lasts a year. hang in there.

Melanie - I have a 13 yr. old too but he is a boy and I think that they are easier. I know how I was with my mom. I thought I knew everything. I feel for ya!

Jennifer P. - 13 was not a kind age for me either. I think I got humbled out of the “I’m too hot for you” stage somewhere around 15. Can you find a 2 year military school :)?

Crystal - I am afraid for the day I have teenagers…
🙂

Jimaie - LOL military school…oh how i vividly remember being 13 and a pain in my mothers booty.
gooood times 😉

Denise Kessler - Your posts make my day. I’ve been following along for awhile now and even show things to my family. Speaking of that…as you research the military schools, I have a 15 yr. old son, see if they have room, please. Just kidding..
kind of!

today

i am feeling grateful.
i am so happy we live in kansas.
while living in chicago
i missed this so much.

Img_0792_2

Img_0797_2

i missed this all around me…livestock and crops and farms.
wide open spaces.
it’s not that i want to touch these cows…
but i enjoy seeing them
and being aware of all the hard work behind farming.
i admire these animals every time i drive to the gym.

in chicago i remember seeing the guy shouting religious things
into a megaphone on the corner on my way to the gym.

Img_9565_2

never saw this in chicago parking lots…

Img_0763_2

i can’t recall goats at preschool in chicago either.
ms. trey brought in another baby goat this week.
she was named clover.
so precious.

i know it’s not for everyone of course.
and i love chicago dearly
but i am really happy to be here where we are.

here are some other random things i am grateful for…

Img_0756_2

happy spaces for toys and books.

Img_0781_2

licking brownie batter from the bowl…i do it too.
but usually i wear more clothes.

Img_0469_3

our bird, sunlight.
she gets out of her cage all the time now
and we all dodge her as she flies around he house.
i am happy for her to be flying instead of trapped.

Img_0806_2

sam’s club…getting stocked up.

Img_0606_2

family dinners.
they are hard work and tiring
but happy memories are being made.
(i hope)

Img_0537_2

and spring bursting out.

what are you happy and grateful for today?

Liz - I’m grateful for your stuffed pasta shells recipe! I made it for dinner last night and it was delish!

Allikayes Mama - I’m grateful for your blog! I just love it! hehehe!

Linda - Have I told you lately how much I love your blog? I always feel inspired to comment…even though it takes awhile to get through all the steps!!! You’re worth it…
Linda

carissa - awe… great things indeed!
the days of licking cake batter IN a swimsuit… too cute!

Jenn Thomas - Waking up late this morning (9:51 AM Saturday) while Russ and London are still in bed – I love our beautiful Kansas big blue sky – I have missed it this past week. I appreciate this sunny morning – it looks like it could be 80 outside but I know it’s not. We do have a lot to appreciate out here in Kansas – thanks for reminding me. Jenn T

traci - Im GRATEFUL for someone who appreciates KANSAS!! I used to live there ( I live in Oklahoma now) and Kansas really is a great place. I dont know how you get better than what you showed in your post…GODS creation and the simply life!!! I agree with you completely…I dont want to touch a cow..lol…but I do have a sense of awww at what they stand for and what they do!! I have a HUGE, HUGE amount of respect for farmers…NO ONE works harder and loves their animals more than a real farmer.
And their is NOTHING better than a goat in preschool..LOL
You have a precious family!!

Lanny Stanard - Very nice, wish I was there!
Lanny.

jessi nagy - so so nice!
you have such a cute family! and you are making memories!!
ok, that little goat, eekk, so dang cute!!!
i love baby goats. hubby won’t let me get one, why? hmm. o well some day!
have a great weekend!
oxooxx,
jessi

traci - what a wonderful post meg. i too love to see livestock. they all have such personalities. my son gets to take care of our neighbors cattle again next month for a week and he is so excited. have a great weekend. love the pic of annie in her swimsuit eating the batter. put a smile on my face.

Diane - What a precious post. I wondered what state you were in. Your home (the outside anyways), reminded me of the homes in Old St. Augustine. I adore those homes and fell in love with yours instantly.
I’m grateful for so much tonight…grateful that my parents live near us and we were able to go get pizza with them tonight, and I was able to meet my good friend for coffee at Starbucks tonight. Nothing like catching up with friends and family.
Have a terrific weekend.

April - beautiful post….that bathing suit wearing batter licking kid is too cute…reminds me of my Chloe…I adore carefree….throw it in the wind…doin’it my way kids.
Bless
