my kids popped in friday evening to bring me my computer that i forgot at home.
but really they were hoping to get some of kimberlee’s cake.

IMG_7387photo 2photo 5prettycolor
we worked on several projects that were colorful and happy.
everyone loved using the scroll saw and learning how to cut stamps from potatoes.

IMG_7380IMG_7385IMG_7359photo 2
kimberlee’s cinnamon rolls are everyone’s favorite.
i am getting brave and may finally try to make them for my family this summer.
i’ve heard that her recipe is really user friendly… i need that!

our field trip out to Bearly Makin’ It and their barn of antiques was a success.
but really…. when isn’t it?
everyone found treasures to remember kansas and craft weekend.
the weather was magnificent!!

how cute is that birdcage filled with bird figurines?!

some old and not-so-old cookbooks.

i scored loads of vintage sheets, an afgan for my oldest’s dorm room and vintage notions at the thrift shop.

we had a weak moment and tried on the wigs.
they claimed they were “new” and they looked “new” so we put them on.
it was so funny… we looked like our moms from our childhood!
photo 5IMG_7313IMG_7317
seriously so many beautiful junky finds!

IMG_7331
we ate on tables built by the guys at the barn.
they build them from found barn wood & porch posts… i love them!
they will make them in any size you want.
i have two BIG ones in the craft house too.

kimberlee’s salad and snacks, outside on a gorgeous day, surrounded by my favorite things = AWESOME.

photo 2-3IMG_7339IMG_7346IMG_7314IMG_7342
this green tool box made it’s way to my kitchen too… i mean… DUH!
it had to!
i had no choice. ย ๐Ÿ˜‰

photo 3-2IMG_7348IMG_7349
kansas was totally showing off last saturday.

IMG_7354
jessica’s pile she brought back from shopping was really fabulous.
that globe is probably the coolest i have ever seen.
she is lucky she saw it before me. ย HA!
IMG_7360
saturday night is always full of even more crafting!
laura created this AWESOME wood art project and taught our guests to make it too.
i loved her creativity and then how everyone interpreted it with their own style!

IMG_7362wood artbags
lauren showed us how to use potatoes to make stamps.
it’s always cool to see everyone’s different ideas!
once you start stamping it was hard to stop!

photo 4IMG_3723IMG_3721
we made pom pom garland again.
it is just such a happy project that i think everyone should do it.
we used THESE POM POM MAKERSย by Clover.
you should order them… you can thank me later.
you will LOVE it… your kids will LOVE it… and i am willing to bet you will have a hard time stopping!

This job is so much fun.
the women are nervously excited when they arrive and they ohhh & ahhh over everything.
they love to create so we provide them with all the supplies to do so!
they love to eat delicious food (of course) so kimberlee spoils them rotten.
they love the friends they come with and they all make friends when they get here.
they share their stories… their tears… their laughter… their hearts with all of us.

i love Craft Weekend.

I went back and read your last post about going to st. louis and, although i don’t live there, we visited a couple years ago and i had to tell you to go to Pappy’s Smokehouse if you love good barbecue. it was the best barbecue i think i’ve ever eaten. and their sweet potato fries…don’t even get me started! there is always a line and they run out of stuff towards the end of the day so go early.

Gabby - Gosh, Meg! Seeing your gold sparkly shoes in this post confirmed that it was you I saw at Kerri’s barn sale on the 5th. I just wasn’t positive, but if I had been sure it was you, I would have introduced myself and told you how much I enjoy your blog. : )

right back at it…

Craft Weekend started back up for 2014.
i missed it!
it was so much fun to get going again…. to make things again!

IMG_2446cw21AIMG_2488cw21BIMG_2470IMG_2471cw21CIMG_2821
stanley was my “helper” the day before CW and the day of.
i about lost my mind… he is such a puppy.
sadly many foam paint brushes lost their lives when i would be doing anything other than watching his every move. ย i was so happy when Mr. Duerksen came to pick him after work on friday.IMG_3002IMG_2464IMG_2495IMG_2828IMG_2482IMG_2484IMG_2833crafting with a big group is such a cool thing.
we all have the same example & directions and EVERY project turns out different and unique.
i notice at each weekend most everybody works within their own favorite color palette and that is unique too!
cw21Gi tried to dream up where i could fit that GIGANTIC cupboard that was at Bearly Makin’ It. ย ๐Ÿ™‚
on saturday of CW we take our guests on an antiqueing adventure to my favorite places in Marion, KS.
i hadn’t been there in several months and it was so good to be back!
cw21Hrusty lockers? yes please. ย  ย  ย greyhound statues? ummmm… no thanks. ย i’m good. ย  ย  HA!cw21Jcw21Othe perfect amount of rust and chippy paint.cw21Ii meant to ask about the rainbow chair and i got distracted! i forgot!
i love that chair.
cw21KIMG_2895usually when we get back from our shopping trip we do a little show-and-tell in the dining room.
it’s fun because people find things half of us never even saw!
and everyone is ohhhing and awwwing over everyone’s finds.
it’s so fun.
i came home with vintage sheets again….swoony aren’t they? ย IMG_2632cw21Pwe made a FUN embroidery hoop project this time!
the idea came straight from Jenn Baker! ย She is the genius behind these adorable hoops.
she sells them in her etsy shop!
you can follow her on instagram too @jenntage.
THANK YOU for sharing your inspiration with us Jenn!
IMG_2928IMG_2927cw21Ethe aprons are always the favorite.
they are a tough and long project but so satisfying for EVERYONE when they are complete!IMG_2514cw21DIMG_2510we made these a year ago with Lindsey and i LOVED making one again.
my girls want to make one at home too!
i think it is a relaxing project… sitting still and filling in the spaces… with your favorite colors.
ahhhhhhh
don’t you want to go paint now?cw21FIMG_2509IMG_2628IMG_2582roomie photos!IMG_2578IMG_2572IMG_2570IMG_2933kimberlee and i had super helpers… our friends Sara Jane and Jenny.
our helpers work hard all weekend helping our guests feel pampered.
they kept catching our ladies trying to clear their plates or clean up after themselves and they made sure they went back to relaxing immediately! ย ๐Ÿ™‚IMG_2561preparing for our group photo… how do you like that “mural” wallpapered up on our porch?
the previous owners put that up there.
it is funny to me. ย  people either love it or hate it.
i meant to take it down but we so rarely use the front door that i never think about it until we come out for our group photo every month.
definitely not on the top of my list (for the last 8 years).IMG_2564cw21Nwe had three pregnant ladies… and they were ALL NAMED JESSICA?!!
how random is that?!
that is the highest prego number we’ve had yet.
i can’t imagine beating that record.cw21Lcw21MIMG_2942we have a pretty great thing going here.
so many blessings in our job.
thanks Kimberlee for making awesome meals, organizing the 5000 details that go into each weekend and not thinking i am a crazy person.

Craft Weekend 21 was fabulous.
but we knew it would be…

If you would like information on how to come to Craft Weekend click on the Craft Weekend button at the top of the blog.
read the INFORMATION post first… then get yourself on the wait list! ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

And if this looks perfect for your friends… you can host your own by renting out the Craft House all to yourself!
you can find out all that information in the Craft House button up at the top of the blog.
so far every group has LOVED it and wants to come back again!
you should be one of those groups too!

Bethany - I’m dying over your vintage sheets because it looks like our linen closet when I was little. I see a few that were sheets on my parents’ bed and one that was a set for my bed.

Danielle - Hey Meg,

How long is the waitlist? I feel like I’ve been on it for forever. I keep waiting to get my email! My sister in law and I are both on there in hopes we’ll get chosen. It is still the lottery?

Diane Baucke - Someday I want to make it to your craft weekend!! Love seeing the fun time you all have. I do have a question for you…what camera do you use for all of your wonderful pics????

Valerie - I LOVE that mural! On our first ever overseas holiday to Europe we visited the Sistine Chapel and the tour was amazing! You Must do the tour if you go, anyway, that is the part in the mural where God gives man a soul! The tour made me cry it was just so awesome! Don’t get rid of it, please!

Laura H - Lovely pictures, and oh the fun you must have! You look fabulous!

Jenn - You are most welcome!! I LOVE the pictures!!!

lara sheriff - i want your sweater!!!!!!!!! where did you get that so cute!!!!

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Looks like so much fun. I might be a wee bit jealous cuz I wanna come someday ๐Ÿ˜‰ Your mural on the front porch makes me giggle cuz it reminds me of Modern Family. Do you ever watch it? It looks like the mural in Lilly’s room.

Julie - Another fabulous colour filled weekend. I don’t know how you don’t come home with a truck filled with antiques and collectibles from visiting that shop. WOW!

Michelle Whitlow - So much fun!! Can’t wait to come in April ๐Ÿ™‚

sarajane - Pretty sure the loss of foam brushes into Stanley’s mouth was…ahem…my fault. HA!

beth larson - Meg, do you and your hubbie own the craft house? Did you used to live there and now are renting a farm instead? Always wondered, finally am asking! : )

jennibell - I made Pam’s Cheesecake for the first time (I KNOW, you’ve only been talking about it for YEARS) for my son’s birthday and it was an absolute HIT. My husband loved it so much that he went out and bought all the ingredients for a second one over Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, I over-baked it and it wasn’t *as* good but since we know how good it CAN be I’ll try again soon. A new family “special treat” for sure. Thanks for sharing!!!

Jenna - I want one of the rainbow necklaces … And I’m going to shop the soaps for a gift!

Amy B - I plan to order from Barn Owl Primitives. I love their signs!

Kristi - I love the You Are My Sunshine plaque! I love the bright yellow and have always loved that saying. Such great items!

Stephanie - LOVE the JOY craft. Where did you get the large letters from??

Friday Favorites » Between You & Me - […] Meg knows how to color her world happy. Not everyone can do this. She has mastered it. […]

Charla - Rachel P. is my dear friend. Don’t you just adore her? If she comes again to help you I’m planning on hiding in her suitcase! I’m going to har house tomorrow night for a craft night and hoping we’ll get so make some of your cute projects. Fun fun fun!!! Love your blog, Meg. It’s a slice of happiness every day!

Sara - Okay, last comment, I promise. Marion Ogden from Bearly Makin’ It had that coffee can in the mail to me within 10 minutes of my phone call. That is crazy awesome! And he’s just trusting me to send him a check. I’ll be sending him a check WITH a thank you note. He was so nice and funny. Unbelievable customer service. Is that a Kansas thing? ๐Ÿ™‚

Sara - I lucked out and found the name of the antique store in an older post of yours and a link to it. I just called and they’re shipping a Fleming’s Flavor-Rich Coffee can to me in Virginia. So fun! I feel bad for asking them to ship out a $6 item, but the man was very nice about it and laughed when I told him I saw it on Meg Duerksen’s blog. He figured. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I am so excited to give this to my friend named Fleming!

Sara - I tried eBay and Etsy for a Fleming’s flavor-rich coffee can but there are no current listings.

Sara - Hi Meg, talk about merry and bright! You do color the world with rainbows and glitter and brighten everyone’s day.

Could you PLEASE tell me the name and location of the antique store you took the crafters to? I would like to get in touch with them and see if they would ship an item to me. I *need* that Fleming’s Flavor- Rich Coffee can from the antique store pic. I want to give it to a friend named Fleming (!) who took pics of my baby girl as a gift to me. Thank you so much!!!

Jen - What fun!

Laura - I think the craft house has made you and Kim look YOUNGER
how is that possible?

going to e mail ya…thinking about renting your craft house for a project! But if I do, you KNOW …you will have to visit…and hang out…and make margaritas….

xo

kerry - oh it all looks amazing as usual! oh how i wish i didn’t live across the seas! :)) jenny is super sweet and super funny, it made my heart SMILE to see her with you. glad you all had a fab time. much love, kerry x

Linda - Can you tell us about the green and white wood panels over the fireplace? It looks so amazing! What is it? I don’t even know what it is but I think I need one!!

stephany - I spy a lot of changes in the craft house…beautiful changes, but I am glad that I was there when some of your old “family home” was still there too.
Looking forward to seeing all of the new things in store for the 3rd floor and the rest of the house!
So exciting!

Michelle Hunt - What an amazingly relaxing, fun weekend. I don’t think I’ve ever been told before then “You are not allowed to clear the table”. Super cute crafts and everyone’s turned out great! Meg is as adorable and sweet in person as you would think she would be. What a special weekend we all had ๐Ÿ™‚

Rach - Agreed. Such a great group of women. I had so much fun and all of the crafts I brought home are such a nice reminder of the weekend!

No group picture this time? Were we all making silly faces?? ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks again for inviting us into your home. It was one of the highlights of 2013.

twenty… how is that possible?

BLOGstripRNBW1000

Craft Weekend Twenty.
so crazy that we have done so many!
i am wrong… it’s only nineteen. ย oops.
they are all so good… each different… all ย A W E S O M E.

kimberlee and i picked up our helper Trish at the airport on thursday night.
we took her to Chipotle for a quick dinner and then said “are you ok with going to hear a lecture from a priest who works with gang members in L.A.” ย she was down with it so we went to hear Gregory Boyle speak on his book and life. ย Thanks for being cool Trish. ย ๐Ÿ™‚

then on friday my kids were off of school so i had to be home while these three worked hard at the craft house.
when i got there all the set up prep was practically finished!
i got started making the margaritas for our guests. ย ๐Ÿ™‚
not quite that quickly but almost! ย Rock star helpers Trish and Sally for sure!
and Kimberlee is always on top of it.

IMG_9029ninefaces5faces
oops… now my graphic is wrong too.
pretend you don’t see it that.
pretend that 20 is a 19.

DSC_0431pins&bagsmichelle at close2myart sent her new shopping bags for our guests! ย they are my new favorite thing.
IMG_0582fabricsewthis was a quiet group who was very skilled with the sewing machines.
they knocked their aprons out quite quickly on friday night.
apronsIMG_8881
on saturday we had an extra stop for shopping at Kerry’s Barn Sale.
we enjoyed lunch there and a cupcake.
coconut creme for me obviously.
the shopping was super!
we headed to Bearly Makin It and their barn after Kerry’s sale.
shop2IMG_8988shopIMG_8997sale2saleIMG_9007show and tell of everyone’s treasures back at the Craft House.
i pretty jealous of Tracey’s score of the big jars filled with trims and sewing notions….
lootIMG_9010scoreyummyfoodkimberlee makes such crazy good food every time.
i mean… come on… ย individual Chicken Pot Pies??!!
and not only were they completely adorable… they were SO YUMMY.
she madeย Pam’s Cheesecake and Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauceย for desserts.
there are no such things as calories at the Craft House.
they don’t exist…. tell me this is true…. please?

IMG_8956IMG_0664IMG_0596IMG_0598IMG_0599trish led a project of cute hoop art that could be for a picture or just to hang on the wall.
aren’t they sweet?IMG_0600IMG_0591we made covered button bracelets… every one is SO CUTE!
IMG_0587the Say Hello Shop sent their wood bunting as a sponsor.
they are all so fun to see how everyone makes them unique.
we used scrap fabric and chalkboard paint.
IMG_0588
Benzie Design sent her super amazing felt for making these Hello pillows.
the combos that everyone used and the details they added were so creative.

i loved meeting each of them.
Craft Weekend is a lovely break from the routines of everyday life.

just as we were about to take our group picture Amy injured her ankle.
we got ice and water and she was soaking it to keep the swelling down.
it was a little crazy! ย We thought it would help us all remember if we kept the bucket in the shot.
Amy you are a trooper!
