what a great weekend!

BLOGstripRNBW1000

we had the best time this weekend with my mom, my sister & nieces and family friends.

we filled each day full till we laid down to sleep.
it was great.

IMG_8097

sean had a football game but it was cancelled in the middle because of lightning.
those clouds were creepy!

IMG_8150

talby had a volleyball game… it’s going to be SO FUN watching her play these next few years!

COL1

my mom and i did several hours of antique shopping.
I found all kinds of treasures!
a little red bedside table… a teal tackle box (i can’t walk away from away a good colored box)… linens…milk glass batter bowl… flour sacks… and cute dishes.
but then my Mom found this big gallon size Santa Fe Pears can.
SCORE!!!!COL2
This was the brand that my grandpa sold in his grocery business!  My grandpa was a “Ranney” of Ranney-Davis.
my parents have all kinds of things they have found at antique shops from his store over the years.
but i don’t have any and this can is so perfectly ME!
i said “this looks like it should be at Anthropologie!”  i was in love.
my mom bought for me for my birthday.
thank you mom!

IMG_8181

we went to my home town’s craft fair and i ran into several old friends i grew up with.
i treated the girls to a giant lemonade from the lemon shaped lemonade stand.  (yummmmmm)
then we headed out to our family friend’s home for the night.
it was a total blast.

they were so giggly & cute… they all had hours and hours of FUN!

IMG_0474

IMG_0419IMG_0488IMG_0482the girls put all the frogs they caught under the fire pit screened lid for awhile to observe them.
i thought that was a pretty great idea.
IMG_0478scott got in for one minute i think but it was pretty cold with the sun almost down.
that water trampoline was too tempting to not try it at least once!

IMG_0489COL3IMG_0518in the morning we got to do a little fishing.
it was windy so we only caught three.

IMG_0528IMG_0543IMG_0554IMG_0563my mom caught the biggest one!

IMG_0571PicMonkey Collage

this is the good stuff.
family… life long friends… catching up… making memories… catching frogs… floppy fish…. 3 am wake up calls.  🙂

thankful for all of it!

how was your weekend?

BLOGstripRNBW1000

Leslie - Yes, please share about your adorable sweater/blouse!!!!!! Thanks 🙂

jill - Meg, you capture the best times in photos! Looks like a lot of fun. I love your gray cardigan too! the shirt you have under it is darling. Where did you find it?

Kate - Would you mind sharing where you got your cute polka dot/stripes cardigan? I loooooooove it! You have a beautiful family. 🙂

Kathi - Sounds wonderful, memories for sure.

Carol S. - Looks like you grabbed the last bits of summer. Nice! So glad you’ve got another volleyball player coming up. One of my fav sports to spectate, after basketball. Cute peaches can, curious if its empty and hope to see where you put it in your home. Anthro finds are great.

Gemma - Looks like a great weekend! I love the frog pictures…although I don’t think I would be brave enough to hold one!

Gemma

Breeanna - Looks like such a fun weekend with family and friends! I want that trampoline!

Alicia @ La Famille - so so fun, meg. love weekends like this.

Lori H - Your weekend looks fun! Our weekend was pretty great, too. We went to see my son, a freshman in college, the first we have seen of him in a month! I wanted to hug on him all day, but of course I am not allowed to do that 🙂 At least now I know he is happy, and that is the most important thing.

Tara - It looks like you had a wonderful weekend! I love that your girls caught the frogs. My girlie-girl would run away squealing!

family fun & capri sun

 BLOGstripRNBW1000

I was asked by Capri Sun to share some of my thoughts on spending family time together.
That is an easy one!  It is the best thing!  They are my favorite people to spend my time with.  It is when I feel the most comfortable, loved, and content.

After my little girls got off the bus from school I asked them to help me come up with some of our best ideas for fun family time.

I try to have snacks and drinks available for them when they get home from school. They are always so hungry & thirsty after all that learning.

Capri Sun 100% Juice is a popular choice at our house.
They love the taste and I love that it’s not just sugar water or soda.
With all of our family’s sports activities that go on year round we have Capri Sun Juice Drinks all the time.  We fill our coolers up for the kids playing sports and for the ones who are just watching on the sidelines.  Capri Sun Juice drinks are great for packing into school lunch boxes too.

My girls enjoyed their Capri Sun Juice Drink and some fruit while we made a list to work from.

IMG_9715

(fyi… Annie got a black eye at school bumping heads with someone in PE class)

IMG_9720

IMG_9746

IMG_9729

We had chicken photo-bomber.
Seriously.
I guess she just wanted to see what was going on up on the table.
Then Annie tossed a blueberry her direction….
IMG_9732

She loves blueberries!
Oh my goodness we laughed so hard.

Ok… back to list writing.

IMG_9725

IMG_9743

IMG_9752

We tried to think of  ideas that involved being active and if it wasn’t active then at least we were learning.
But sometimes it is good to cuddle up and just relax too.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have fun as a family.

You just need each other.

Big vacations are great, expensive amusement parks are cool, but the real stuff that builds memories for life is consistently spending quality time together.  Being engaged in the activity, making eye contact… no phones or internet distractions… that is the GOOD STUFF.  Your kids will remember that.  They may not remember the activity but they will remember the love & focused attention you gave them in that moment.  It builds… one experience on top of the next.

Time together is important.  You might as well make it fun too.

What is one of your favorite ways to be together with your family?

Learn more about Capri Sun Juice Drinks at their website and also visit their Facebook Page.

Liz - Love this. So true!

Carolyn - I know this comment does not have anything to do with this last post, but, I made your Roasted Veggies this past Sunday for a Dinner in the park with my wonderful family!!! What a delicious way to fix these veggies!! YUMMY! They are also very beautiful to serve!! Thanks for sharing your recipe. I wish I would have taken a picture of our table of food!! We grilled steaks, baked potatoes and Roasted Veggies!!! My sister brought the most wonderful Opera Cream cake also. What a wonderful day to spend with the family!!!

jo - couldn’t agree with donna more.

Mindy - I love how you celebrate each day! And the chicken photo bomber. I love that too : )

Gina in Louisville - They are growing up too stinking fast.

Jennifer - Love the chicken photo bomber. Also the orange kitty and sweet girls. Your family always looks like fun!

Donna - I love your blog and I understand why you do sponsored posts, but those little Capri Suns have more sugar than soda. Juice IS essentially sugar water. To each his/her own, but to present juice as healthy is irresponsible. Juice consumption is linked to a whole host of childhood illnesses.

Tiffany - Perfect! We all need reminders to unplug and engage! We like going for walks on our country road and hunting for “treasures”. 🙂 PS-I thought Annie was wearing eye makeup before I read about her black eye.

Martha - “you don’t have to spend a lot of money to have fun as a family…..you just need each other”. Perfectly put!

meredith - stroller rides! simple fun with my 6 month old. I point out objects all around and just talk to her. when all three of us walk after dinner it’s perfect family time. my mom walks with us a lot too, when she’s over. she points out the same objects and says them in french.

the city museum

when we were on vacation this summer the one place i was the most excited about (that we’d never gone to) was The City Museum in St. Louis, MO.

it did not disappoint.
it felt like i was crawling into the mind of an artist!
to me… it was dreamy!

art come to life in crazy ways that for almost all situations would not be allowed…it’s not “practical” to have a fish stairway.  it’s weird.

Yes! that is why it’s awesome!
it was CLEARLY made by artists who like to have fun.

i adored this place.

cm5
cm3cm2color was EVERYWHERE!
cm1 cm17cm9cm14cm13
it was the craziest place!  climbing through wire tunnels to get to an airplane on the roof?!
cm8cm11a ferris wheel on the roof at sunset?  perfection.
and sean asked to ride with me.
🙂

i was a little nervous until he asked to go with me… then i was too happy to be nervous.

cm7 cm12cm10
scott was at a basketball tournament in st. louis so he missed the museum.
we tried to tell him about it but you have to see it to believe it.

cm6 cm4 cm15
if you ever have the chance to go to the City Museum.… DO IT.

be sure to wear comfy clothes you can climb around in.
and let your kids go crazy!

ours were dripping with sweat by the time we left.

it was several hours of entertainment and well worth the price.

i can’t wait to go back!

Heather R. - Love City Museum, Pappy’s BBQ, & Crown Candy Kitchen. All St.Louis. If you like City Museum on Facebook you’ll see their next project. A castle!!!

rae - awesome! we have been twice and it was so freaking amazing! you are right,it is really hard to describe it to people,I always just bring up photos. we are going back next week and this post has made me even more excited!

Sharon w - We live about 2 hours from STL and the City Museum is our families FAVORITE place to visit…that and a Cardinal game 🙂

Tracy - The City Museum is beyond amazing! We spent 2 whole days there one summer! We thought it was so great the first day that we cancelled our plans and went the next day. Definitely worth the $

Chris - Awesome pictures. I live in St. Louis and haven’t even seen all these places in the museum. Can’t wait to schedule a trip with our brownie troop!

Linda - that looks AMAZING!!! I want to go now! Maybe I’ll add it to my ever increasing bucket list!

Denise - It IS absolutely one of the most amazing places to visit in Missouri PERIOD! We took a group of AFS kids (foreign exchange students) and it was so fun to just watch them and their reaction to this place! We have also taken our own kids (now 20 & 23) and we had a ball! So glad you all could experience this place and I agree, well worth the price! Enjoyed your photos!!

Beth - I can see my office building in the background of some of your pictures! I took my daughter for the first time this summer, she’s 4. We love it, she asks to go back every week! I wish I had known you were here. I work at the newspaper, I could have given you a tour of our building! Next time!

Melissa - Oh my that place looks crazy cool!

Tiffany - It’s like a museum and amusement park/carnival all in one. Enjoyed the pics.

Terrie - Definitely looks like fun! On the bucket list!!
Grand-one needs to get a little bigger!
Wonder if the hubs will help me redecorate?

colleen - I’ve just put this on my list for our cross country trip in an RV… thx so much for sharing the particulars… I saw the pictures on your vaca post and remember wondering “I wonder why they went there!”. Clearly I am a vacation snob….. now I know why… looks like the coolest place on the planet… too bad we have to travel from ct to missouri to get there, oh well!
I agree w/ the nerves about the ferris wheel.. so glad your second son “asked you out!”!
Don’t you love that?

kimberly oyler - ahhh! i loved this place when i went in high school!

kaye - I took my fourth grade class a few years ago when I lived in Missouri. The outside stuff was not yet completed, wish I could go back now and take in the outside!! Super special place!

Julie - What a fabulous place – my kids would thoroughly enjoy this, actually I think the whole family would. Thanks for sharing your time their with us.

Jessica - That looks AMAZING! I want to go!!

Tanya - My kids would LOVE that adventure!
Places like that are what make life great 😀

Lisa - That place looks crazy awesome! My kids would love it. Too bad we live in Oregon and probably won’t be in St. Louis anytime soon… 😉

Crystalyn - I’ve been wanting to check that place out for months now! We just moved to Missouri and some coworkers told me about it. Your pictures help more than their descriptions though, it’s kind of a hard place to describe, hah!

amber - My husband & I went there several years ago (before we had kids) & I’ve always wanted to go back when my kids were old enough. It was fun for us big kids too;). But now my sister doesn’t live in MO anymore…so I guess we’ll just have to visit there on our own now! Such a crazy place!!

it was a good one.

BLOGstripRNBW1000

our weekend was just right.
we had a party….we hung out… we got some stuff done… i made margaritas.
sounds good doesn’t it?

IMG_6714

mon1

we have had this style of party several times now and i think it is my favorite.
we invite people over and have them bring a carton of ice cream and we provide all the toppings.
it’s fun because we get all kinds of ice cream too.
and then we let the kids go nuts making their own sundaes.

IMG_6710

the kids were playing soccer, volleyball and jumping on the trampoline… notice annie’s sweaty hair.
she had to put her bowl into a bigger bowl since she filled it so full.
mon2
after ice cream it starts to get dark and we play a movie up on the barn wall.
all the kids grabbed their chairs and settled in.
this time we played “The Sandlot” … such a great movie!
the grown ups stayed by the house and talked.
the best kind of party!  occupied kids and adult conversation under twinkle lights.
yes please.

IMG_6728mon3
i went out for a run on sunday morning early and it was absolutely gorgeous outside.
the sun was just coming up… cows were by the creek… farmer was baling hay… perfect morning to be out.

IMG_6814mon4
the field behind our house has sunflower weeds growing.
i took that picture (on the right) and thought i would like to get married right there in front of these flowers.
to craig again of course.
but then the bugs attacked me and i decided since i was already married we could just kiss there & call it good.

IMG_6803
cats are weirdos.
she was sound asleep… with her head hanging off the chair.

mon6IMG_6878

we have taught the chickens how to jump for food in our hands.
it is hysterical.
someday i will show a video.mon5
IMG_6856mon7IMG_6900

and then there is this.
i mean… really.
how lucky are we everyday that God puts incredible beauty in our paths like this?
it may not look like this at your house but He shows you in other ways that are equally awesome.

all you have to do is look.

BLOGstripRNBW1000

Tiffany - It has been a busy few weeks for me, but I’ve had fun catching up on your recent blog posts. This party looks so fun! What great memories you help create for your kids! Excited to see that chicken jumping video. Funny isn’t it! Happy Anniversary to you and Craig. You look so great in all of the pictures. Reminds me I need to take more pictures with Pat.

Melinda - Love all of it! Thank you for, sharing!

e - Wild sunflowers bloomed the weekend I got married outside in Kansas. I love to see them and be reminded of the day I entered into a lifelong partnership! Thanks for posting (I don’t live in KS anymore).

Fern Lung - Do you have anywhere with buttons to sign up to recieve your blog, pinterest, and you tube if you have it. I dont see anywhere to sign up to recieve your blog.

Tracy - I love that, Meg! “all you have to do is look”. So often I forget to look!!!

Thank you!!

Melissa - The ice cream party looks so fun! I actually just bought one of those metal double “washing bins” a few weeks ago at a sale!

Brianna - My mom makes her chickens jump for bananas… They love them, you should try it! Beautiful pictures as always…

Jackie Kirsche - Oh, I love your party idea! I think I might just be replicating it here in Georgia. 🙂
Thanks for sharing.

rebekah - It sounds absolutely perfect!

Patricia - Lovely photos ~ looks like FUN!

April M - I like your blog like I like coffee 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing!

Renee - chickens jumping!?!? LOL!! that is amazing.
sometimes my husband says, ‘give me some hungry chicken,yo.’ and then holds out his hands while i ‘peck’ with my hand. it’s really nerdy.

Julie - What a great idea for a party. Sounds like a fabulous evening. Wonderful photos yet again.

stephanie - I love this. Every bit.

Gina - Sounds fabulous!! I love the movie The Sandlot!! We say, “for-ev-er” all the time! 😉 There is nothing like nature to soothe the soul. Love your photos!! 😀

Christi - I love ice cream parties! Looks like SO much fun! My question is – what kind of projector do you use for your movies? This is omehing I’ve wanted to do for the last few years, but I’m never comfortable with the resolution for the price on the ones I find.

happygirl - An ice cream sundae party sounds wonderful. You make living in the heartland sound so desirable. I’ve just got to get off this east coast. 🙂

it’s a tradition.

superskinnyrainbow

we try to make it here every year.
we have missed a few times usually because it’s over 100 degrees or there was a drought.
but remember all that rain we have had in central kansas?  20+ inches in a few weeks?
well it caused flooding all over the place but in this case… it was SO COOL!
the waterfall we visit has been dry before and sometimes it has a little stream.

there are probably more posts but i can’t find them.
oh well.

superskinnyrainbow

beth larson - Meg!!! Is that your own personal waterfall? If not how did you possibly have it all to yourself? Such wonderful shots of your beautiful family frolicking in the water together…
and now let’s talk about all the other amazing photos in this post…you are a rock star photographer girl!!!! Love all the critter pics so much- thanks for making me smile again this morning, xo b.

p.s. your family is so darling!

Kimberlee Jost - Just sittin’ over here weeping in my coffee over the fam.
All of them.
🙂

Tracie K - Great family photo, I don’t even know you but it brought tears to my eyes *happy* tears!!

Tiffany - You have a beautiful family, and I’m so happy for you to have this chance to create family memories! What a lovely place to spend quality family time!

Whitney - UGH, last comment did not belong on this post… now I just sound crazy and random 🙂

Whitney - This is going to sound stalkerish, but every time I see photos of your house I always think, “I want all of the stuff in her house it all looks so beautiful! But I will never find any cool stuff like that in thrift stores here!” WELL, today, looking at these pictures I saw that you have the same ALL laundry detergent bucket I have that I got last summer at a thrift store… yay! But why does yours look so much more awesome than mine?! (My husband thinks I was crazy for buying it, btw.)

Whitney - WOW! They do look alike! They are all so grown up, beautiful family! And the waterfall looks amazing too!

tracy fisher - that last picture made me smile. how awesome. -tracy

Erika - Hi Meg! I live in KS and am curious where this place is? I’d love to take my family there sometime. If you get the time, would you mind slipping me a note to let me know? thank you!!

Lisa - The waterfall is beautiful, but so is all the scenery around the lake. I love the Flint Hills, and all the Kansas prairie! I’ve been wanting to take a tour of the Kansas waterfalls, and this looks like a great one to start with. “Pinning” the beautiful scenery pics!

Renee - Is this place a secret!? Where is it? 🙂 Awesome!!

Also, how do you get your pics to be side by side like that – love the editing!

shar y - This is a great post. Lovely photos of nature + your wonderful family. Win-win! Those lovely kids of yours, wow!! And, the water, amazing! Truly blessings all around!

Gale - wow – so cool!! Where is this? I’d love to go someplace in KS with great water – I miss that the most living here. Fun to look back at the old posts and see how much your sweet kids have grown!! 🙂

Keshet Starr - Adorable photos! And an important question–where can I get that chevron skirt??

Gina - Wow, all those people were in your belly at one time? That’s amazing! How did they end up being different ages? 😉

Lisa - The first time I ever read your blog was this 2008 post! I was instantly smitten! 😉 I loved your pictures and that you had a big family. Your post in 2008 (and again today) made me want to visit Kansas just to visit this awesome place! So beautiful!

Becca Sutton - It’s so weird that I can look at these pictures and know that your kids are growing up. How long have I been looking at pictures of them?? It made me a tiny bit sad! The modern world is so bizarre!!

Dara - do you live near there? I’m going to be in that area over labor day, I may just have to stop by there and see this in person!

amy jupin - your pics are gorgeous, as usual.
loved seeing your whole family all together.
especially lauren. she’s so beautiful.
🙂

Bethany - Awesome waterfall and the blue of the sky is amazing! Looks like a lot of fun.

Julie - You have a very lovely family – I think it is great that you have some annual traditions. This is what your family will remember, when hey have their own families.

meg duerksen - This is the Chase Co. Fishing Lake near Elmdale/Cottonwood falls. You walk over the dam and down to the left at the end.
🙂

Gina - What precious memories and priceless pictures!! 🙂

KirstenP - What an awesome place! Love the photos of all the kids, especially the color photo of the five of them in the water all fitting together like a puzzle. And the close-up of Annie is beautiful – so pretty and grown-up!

Amanda - That is incredible!!! The family photo at the very end is absolutely perfect. =)

Necole @seriouslysassymama - That looks like fun. Boy would we here in Texas have loved that rain. My herb garden is kaput. We are only allowed to water once or twice a week. I love all the green!

Tammy - Ok, I have to know where this is. I grew up in Wichita and now live in Oxford. Talk about a small town! The waterfall is wonderful, we must take a road trip.

happygirl - Great memories you’ve captured here. I love traditions.

Lisa M. - Awesome pictures! What memories. Thanks for sharing!

Tracy - You got some great photos of your family!!

I can’t believe that’s in central Kansas!

Kristin S - Oh, Meg, these pics are treasures! With Lauren going off to school, so fun you got all five plus you two all together.

(don’t call the grammar police)

Jenn - Beautiful pictures! Beautiful family!

Gemma - Lovely photos! It’s so much fun to look at the pictures through the years!

Gemma x

kimberly oyler - cute pics of you and your guy!

Jen - Absolutely beautiful family and absolutely beautiful pictures. Happy memories for sure!

Rebecca - What strikes me is how tall Annie is getting. Wow~ When I started reading you I will never forget the story of you having a Bible study at your house and having to send someone to one house for toilet paper and someone to another house for cheese for the dip, becuase you are out and Talby comes down to report that Annie has gotten into some yellow paint and it’s everywhere, even on a television!!! Remember that?

Stephanie - WOW. This brings tears to my eyes, and I’m not sure why. Seeing your family all together just after Lauren left for college just seems so bittersweet. And it will be my own family here in three short years. But Kansas. Oh, I miss Kansas. I love the big sky and grasses. In Florida it’s hard to have a view (where I live, at least) because of all the pines. That waterfall is gorgeous.

Tiffany - If nothing else this photo made me want to schedule my family photo immediately. Can’t believe the differences through the years, wow.

Amy - We live in KS too! Where is this beautiful waterfall? We live in KC but often travel to Wichita and Hutch or Sterling, KS if you’ve ever heard of that. Love your blog.

Melissa - That looks so fun! The waterfall is crazy.

admin - it’s from old navy last summer Donna.
🙂

Donna - LOVE that skirt! Where did you get it? I must have one.

a little tour…

we went to my parents for the Fourth of July this year.
it was a beautiful day!

we went to the pool for a few hours.
i even took a little short nap on the lounge chair!
that never happens.

we had a yummy meal that my mom made for us.
while she was working on the grill i took a little photo tour of my parent's yard.

it's always relaxing sitting outside at my parents.
they have worked hard to make their yard so pretty.
there are birds everywhere and butterflies.

we ate our delicious summer meal complete with my mom's famous margaritas.

IMG_8466

IMG_8475

IMG_8480

then we headed out for the fireworks show downtown.
IMG_8484

IMG_8486

IMG_8489

which turned out to be quite an adventure filled with too many total weird things to list.
but it ended with me calling 911 for an elderly man who fell down in the dark and was bleeding all over.
it was such a crazy 4th!

then…. we left these three with grandma & grandpa for a couple days.

mr. duerksen and i drove home after the fireworks show because waffle was at home.
we were so tired… i was trying so hard not to fall asleep… and did fall asleep a couple times.
we cranked up 80s & 90s and were singing loud trying to keep ourselves awake.
and laughing a lot.

time together JUST US is refreshing.
we need it.
it is so nice to have a conversation uninterrupted & not have to think about the everyday things like chores and dishes and making dinner even for a short time.
and also because i super like hanging out with him!

scott is due back from his youth group trip any minute.
and life is back to normal.

and that is good too.

🙂

Saundra Fowler - Hi Meg, I have followed your blog for years and I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your gorgeous pictures along with just about everything you do! Your style is so so cool! I have especially noticed how your photos have improved so much over the years. They are stunning! Did you happen to take one of Ashley”s Snapshot courses? I have been wanting to for a long time!

misty tharp - love that margarita recipe. I remember when I was getting stuff to make it for the 1st time {right after you posted the recipe} I was at the liquor store & I was telling them about beer being an ingredient & they were like, “beer in a margarita?? are you nuts??” and now, everywhere you go, the margaritas with the bottle of beer turned upside down in them are all the rage 🙂 I love how everything you do is cool before it’s ‘cool’ {i.e.: martha stewart rainbow cake}

Carol S. - Gorgeous, beautiful, colorful and relaxing backyard. The apple sure doesn’t call far from the tree! Thanks for sharing pics from this special day. I recently moved 9 hours with my family for husbands work and was happy to be back in Chicago last week to see my mom and dad and family. Sitting around yacking with family is the best treat. My mom outlasted both my husband and I and played poker with my boys till 11pm. They said the next day. “Grandma’s the bomb!” and I want to be like her someday! Inspired to get some more color for my garden today. Thanks Meg.

Kimberly Dial - I’d love hanging out in that yard too! Very lovely! Thanks for sharing 🙂

lorel - beautiful – one of my favorite places in the world.

Lorraine Richie - It may be a Harry Lauder Walking Stick Tree, they are so neat!!

Cindy - Do you know what kind of tree that is? The one with the twisty vines and leaves. It is fantastic!

D. Jean - Love the birdhouse. Very cute and it looked like a fun time.

Tracy - Your parents yard is beautiful!! Looks like a wonderful 4th!
So jealous of you alone time with Mr D. So important! My husband and I need some for sure.

Lori H - It is easy to see where you got your love of color! Love their outdoor space.

Tiffany - Beautiful, it looks welcoming and cozy. The margaritas though, they look famous and relaxing.

Valerie @ Chateau a la mode - I LOVE the 4th. Yours looks like it was fun. Glad you ad time with your mister 😉

KirstenP - Meg, your mom’s yard is beautiful and so colorful!
I loved the close-up photo of the shiny, slender, curving leaves
on the willow(?)tree. You could win an award with that photo!

Jen - Your pictures make my eyes happy. All of them are so beautiful – their yard is lovely.
Meg, I want to thank you. I really dislike shopping for clothes for me, but I needed to pick up some new items for my closet. I took our advice and if I saw anything that was even remotely a possibility, I tried it on. And you know what?! Success! I even got a lot of va va va voom from hubby when I did a fashion show for him. Thanks for the encouragement!

Lindsay H - I love her yard! So colorful. 🙂

Stephanie - It is easy to see where you get your eye from, Meg. Your mom’s yard is gorgeous!

dcranney@yahoo.com - Dawn – I was the wedding coordinator for your wedding. I am the Director of Congregational Care now! Meg is my youngest daughter! Fun, huh!
Candice

Dawn - FUMC downtown? Is she the wedding lady?

Dawn - WAIT. A. Minute. I know your mom from somewhere… church maybe?

she took lots of time deciding on the perfect headphones for her iPod.
what is the deal with Beats headphones?
WHY WHY WHY does anyone in the world (especially anyone under 18 years old) need $250 headpohones?
it is insanity.
i refuse.
100%
i think $30 is riduculous also BUT it's $220 better than the others.
america you are REDONK.

it was a lovely girls day.
just wandering around… finding our style…. enjoying each other and time together.
with an iced coffee in my hand.

i love days like that.

Bette@ Somerset Lane Blog - oh look, Kenny Rogers real face! It looks like a fun day! I try to do that with my girls sometimes too!

jo - those album covers are too funny…especially the Gino Vanelli! thnx for sharing. looks like you had a fun girls day out.

tracy fisher - this makes me miss my girls who is away. precious photos. note to self… do more of “this” as i only have 2 more years with her before college. -tracy. ps.. love the albums. i asked for an old 70’s stereo for Christmas and everyone looked at me weird. haha

tonya - those days are the best!!! so glad you and talby got to enjoy one! i LOVED me some barbara mandrell…and the mandrell sisters!!! holy cow, i haven’t thought of them in a long, long time!

Valerie @ Chateau a la mode - When you have multiple kids alone time with them is a must even though it”s so hard. I know they feel so special when you spend tme with them uninterrupted. You are a good mom and Talby was a lucky girl.

Debbie S - We have three sets of Beats in our home…so worth the money and I bet Copacabana would sound AMAZING on them 😉

Sara - You are such a fun mom, and Talby sure looks fun to spend a day with. Great post!

Tami C - Hahaha! I think everyone of those records were also in my parent’s collection. Memories…

Michelle - What a fun day…those are the best 🙂 And those albums…oh man!! Had me laughing!! hehe Btw, those green & turquoise bowls are heavenly…where were those?? I MUST have some!!

Katie - This looks like such a lovely day! I still have these days with my Mum now, and I’m 25! Which means I have the money to treat her too 🙂 xx

Tiffany - I look forward to creating those kinds of memories with Olivia as she gets older. What a fun and special day for Talby!

Lisa - I’m listening to NRP right this minute – an interview with Barry Manilow, and I’m singing along with all the songs and remembering the ones I used to play on the piano. He’ll never go out of style, hahaha! And, yes, I have every one one of those albums pictured. *sigh*

s - I am with you on the headphones…I am a mean mom per my 11 year old..but since I refused to buy Uggs for my daughter I guess I am ok with mean. I am sure the quality is good but I still can’t justify shelling out that much money.

liz - Beats are crazy expensive BUT they are really good! My 15yr old has a pair and I thought too that it was ridiculous for a teenager to own a pair for that price but boy there is a HUGE difference when you listen to them compared to a lower price pair. Not knocking anyone who chooses the lower price pair. To each his own :). Great pics today so colorful.

stephany @ home is what you make it - YES! My sister and I LOVED the Barbara Mandrell show!!

Heidi Jo the Artist - Love days like those! These are great headphones, super cheap–cost wise, and come in a rainbow of colors: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003EM6AOG/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Maybe bookmark for your other kiddos, would make great stocking stuffers too. 😉

Jennifer - So much fun — and you have a great Goodwill! I still listen to Barbara Mandrell sometimes, even if it is on iTunes. And ok, Barry, too. What a great way to have a mommy-daughter date. Inspires me to do the same! 🙂

kate - I think the necklaces are at Francesca’s Collections – I recognize them, and that is what the store is called at my mall. Great photos, love the color!

Kori - Barbara Mandrell was my first concert….with my GRANDMA!! I was 9 or 10 and I thought it was so cool! I got a new Jessica McClintock dress for the occasion and some sassy black patent flats to wear with NYLONS!
FUNNY!

midwestmom - Beats. Agree the price is crazy, but if you’ve ever listened to them and compared them, they sound SO much better. I borrow my 15 year olds to mow the yard. they are the only headphones that will block out the super loud mower! I love them and wish I had my own pair 🙂

Jodi - OMG Meg STOP IT! The Barry Gibb/Barbara album I would have died over! Not even kidding, I have an advertisment for it on my watch list on ebay. I am moving to Kansas!!!

Lyn - I have that Barry & Barbara album! Woman in love! Great song!!!!

amanda - my oldest is 7. and a half. i cringe when i think of her growing up. but i look forward to this, too. girly stuff is so much fun!

kate - What a fun day! Talby is adorable!

Kathy - love this! love finding great bargains and GIRL time!

Alicia @ La Famille - Nice! I need a day like that!

DanaD@BoysMyBoys - You hit the nail on the head- America is REDONK! 🙂 Our value system has become sadly skewed.

MaryLea - Sounds like a PERFECT day. Nothing better than mother daughter bonding time!

Tracy - How fun! I love days with just my daughter (she has 3 brothers).
I agree 100% about the beats headphones!! What’s up with that?? The surprising thing is how many people you see wearing them!

Chris - I think I had all those Bary Manilow albums.:)

Linda - love all the beautiful color! and I love you you share your special days with your kids it inspires me.

Heather S. - Totally having one of these days with my 11 year old girl next Thursday! Two girls with some yummy drinks shopping, pedicuring, and playing with makeup! So looking forward to it! What a fun age this is!

Southern Gal - Forgot to add that I loved the Barbara Mandrell Show, but I thought they had the strangest names. Irlene?

Southern Gal - Sounds fabulous! I’m with you on the headphone debacle.
I have two of those albums in my closet: Streisand’s Guilty and Manilow Live! I loved the commercial jingles section of that album.

Shawn - What goodwill is your favorite? Mine is near Maize in Wichita.

Alice H - Where are those earrings and necklaces at? I love getting to spend one-on-one time with my children. It doesn’t happen as much as I would like. I need to fix that!

tasha - fun day!!!
Where did you find those gorgeous necklaces?
