couple things….

yesterday was a good day.

-went for a run right away in the morning….endurance is on my side now.

-my computer problem was a broken charger….YAY!

-i had dinner in the crock pot by 9 AM for the family later.
(which i forgot to mention and they got pizza instead and then found dinner waiting for them at
   home…oops….oh well…more dinner for tonight! )

and then i left with a friend to see another friend for the whole day.
because my friend Pam….who took me to africa….is MOVING TO AFRICA!!!
oh my goodness.

IMG_7824-6

our time together is special.
it's NEEDED.
it's fills of my soul with Christ's love through them to me
it's sharing everything…anything….laughing and crying….and eating….and more talking.

literally 14 hours of non stop talking….by all of us.  :)

and about 15 bathroom breaks.

it's so good.
and i NEED it.

she is moving with her family to Liberia for missions.
it was SO COOL to listen to her share so many AWESOME things God is doing in their lives RIGHT NOW.
tangible, real amazing things they have seen just this month alone….needs he is providing….
it gave me goosebumps it was so EXCITING.

oh how i will miss her!!!

but i get to go visit her too!
i can't wait to go back to africa.

IMG_7816-3

one of her daughters is a spectacular artist.
i mean….wow.

IMG_7818-4

i think Beth is 11 years old.
is that not amazing??
truly fabulous talent she has.

IMG_7823-5

i can't wait to see what she finds to create in africa!

we got home really late and i crawled into bed so happy.
i am a girl who needs time with my close friends.
i crave it.
i need to talk things out…..share….listen….encourage and be encouraged….be REAL…and honest.
we are each SO different in our life paths and what we are doing but we love that for each other.

i love those kind of days.

what about you?
what kinds of things feed your soul?
what encourages you and keeps you going for a few weeks after you do them?

Heather G. - Happy for your special day. Your friend and her family sound amazing.

Lisa Currie-Gurney - I REALIZED A LONG TIME AGO…
WOMEN NEED OTHER WOMEN.
SO GLAD I HAVE MINE.
HUGS FROM MY HEART

Kristin S - What feeds my soul…
Reading your blog and others that are real and Christ-centered.
Reading God’s word.
Time with kindreds. I’m SO THANKFUL God created us for community.
Next week my best friend and I are taking a 4 day trip. I’ve been saving for years so I’m not going in to debt for it. We are going to eat well, get pampered, shop some, talk lots, read, spend time together, probably laugh a lot and cry as well.
Life.

Mel - glad you had a great visit with your friends, your happiness just bounces off the page !
reading your blog is very inspiring for me at the moment πŸ™‚
my sister (i really heart her xoxo)
my friends
music
reading
running
cups of tea in vintage tea cups πŸ™‚
home decorating magazines & blogs
daydreaming about the places I am longing to travel to
and of course , my beautiful family , but all of the above is just for ME , us Mums really need “just for me” time & interests πŸ™‚

Bernice - WOW! Her daughter has incredible talent! I can’t even draw a good-looking stick man… gee. Glad you had some good time with your friends. Every mama needs some of that!

Breeanna @ a brilliant melody - Glad you had a great time with friends. Something that gives me a boost is listening to music, playing the piano, and spending time with friends πŸ™‚

sara @ it's good to be queen - yes, time with the girlfriends feeds the soul for sure. helps you feel not alone. i also crave time alone with my man. to feel like me…and not just a mama.

Melanie - Time with girlfriends? Ah yes, I’m leaving tomorrow for a girly weekend in Michigan. Can’t wait!
I can’t believe the artistic talent of that 11-year old girl…I mean, WOW! She is incredible.

Valerie @ Chateau A la Mode - Next to my hubby and kids girlfriends and girlfriend time is waaaaay imortant to me and my mental health πŸ™‚

Life with Kaishon - That is a GREAT drawing. Wow. I am so impressed.
God bless her greatly in Africa!

Nicole - Quality time feeds my soul. It doesn’t matter where or what we are doing, but just being with my friends/family makes me happy.

Shauna - Thats one of my favorite recipes from Smashed Peas & Carrots. So easy & soooo good. I think you led me to her blog….so thank you!!

Lisa - PS- Prayed for Pam and her family… what an exciting act of obedience!

Lisa - As much as I love my 4 kids… time away from being a 24 hr mom is what feeds my soul. Time away with my husband or friends. And as much as I love just hanging out with dear friends or my husband, I really prefer the deep, meaningful long chunks of time. Kinda like your 14 hrs of non-stop talking! Not that my husband and I would spend 14 hrs talking… he’s good for an hour at a time. haha πŸ˜‰

Megan H. - She is an extremely talented artist! When listening to the radio this morning a preacher talked about recognizing and using God given talents. What an AMAZING God given talent she has!

betsy - What a great day! I saw on Twitter that you went to an UnForked. Were you in Overland Park visiting your friend? The new UnForked here is literally just down the street from my condo! And I haven’t been to it yet πŸ™‚
Need to go … maybe you can come back in town and go with me πŸ™‚

Jen Christians - Oh MY Goodness! TALENTED!!! I cannot believe how amazing those drawings are! I want one… for real
I love me some good friend time, unfortunately it has been way too long

Staci - Love those days with close friends too!!! Just got to have one myself today!!! Not for 14 hours…only about 4, but I”ll take it !!!!!!! So exciting for Pam πŸ™‚

Melissa - what you said about having time with close friends is so true! i love the hours i get when i can chat with my girlfriends and be encouraged. since we moved to CO last year, it takes awhile to gain those close relationships, so when you get to be reunited with an old friend, it is amazingly wonderful! thanks for sharing!

Brenda - Wow! What an amazing artist! Please share her drawings of Africa, if she will let you. I am hoping to go to Uganda this summer with our church! How exciting.

Catriona - Three of us girlfriends try to meet for dinner once a month at one of our homes and we make/bring a course each. Then just talk to, at and over each other for about 4 hours non-stop! I always wake up with a sore throat (and sometimes a bit of a fuzzy head…) the next day but it is SO worth it and I so look forward to those dinners.

happygirl - Such talent. Amazing. Sounded like a GREAT day. I love when you discover that the computer is NOT broken. friends, family, leftovers for the next day. πŸ™‚

tara - her daughter has an incredible talent…in…cred….ible.
what feeds my soul?
being outside.
coffee in the morning.
in a very “shallow hal” kind of way…my pumpkin spice candle.
my family laughing together.
deep conversation with dear friends.
hitting the bed every night with my husband and FINALLY being able to catch up and debrief our days.

Kerry - goodness me, she is so talented!!
Aaah, my heartstrings tugged at the ‘move to Africa’ I miss Africa every day!! xx

Jenn - Feed your soul….now that’s important. I have to be creative. I need it….its me. I like to flea market. I don’t need to shop, just walk around. Of course its best with friends on both. I feel rejuvinated, fresh, like someone has charged my battery.

Holly - yay for you Meg!
Our church started a seperate jr high youth group in August and I am one of the two leaders. We started our first class with 4 kids. Last night we had 10 and that was with 3 missing. We never imagined our class would grow so fast and it is amazing to watch God start to do his work in these kids. It is also amazing what God has shown me through them. They are awesome and I totally feed off of them.

Dana @ Bungalow'56 - That kind of talent is god given. She needs to set up an Etsy shop.
Dana

Dana @ Bungalow'56 - That kind of talent is god given. She needs to set up an Etst shop.
Dana

Dana @ Bungalow'56 - I’ve been thinking about the time I need with friends. You’ve inspired me to make a few calls.
Dana

michelle - I’m the same way, I HAVE to have that time with good friends (& no kiddos) to recharge. I’m headed to Oklahoma tomorrow to spend a few days with my besties from college. Women need other women. Period. πŸ™‚
So glad you had the opportunity to have the lovely day you did. And let me just say…Pam’s daughter? Holy moly! That girl is amazing!

Laura Phelps - well, YOU, for one…you me dear are a fabulous gift for my soul.
and my 3rd grade class! I have the beautiful honor of teaching 10 amazing children about GOD!!!
and broadway musicals…that curtain…the overture…the costumes…brings me back to LIFE
xoxo

Ashlyn@Pinecone - I am glad you had such a great day.
I am completely blown back by the artist talent of Pam’s daughter!! What a gift! xo

amy jupin - craving some girl time myself.
pam’s daughter is amazing.
i am def gonna show this to anna. she’ll freak.
and one more thing…
JANA!!!
πŸ™‚

Lisa - Awesome! So glad you had that time. I had one of those days too. Sharing and being real – crazy real – with a friend all day yesterday. What a gift. In the words of my sister-in-law “People are my treasure.” πŸ™‚

Joy McLaughlin - Good for you! Sounds like a wonderful day! Girlfriend time definitely does it for me, and when the whole family is together. We only have one left at home, so when they are all around, it fills me up. On the other side of that, alone time rejuvenates me as well. I need both!

Sharla - Wow, I can’t believe her daughter’s drawings. They are spectacular. Sounds like her family is on a great path!

Jen - SOunds like a very special day, indeed. You are blessed! And, I don’t mean to be snarky at all, but what the heck did you put in the crock pot??? I am always looking for good crock pot recipes! πŸ™‚

Kelley - Both of the Blue Lily workshops were so energizing for me. Not just with my photography, but creating a greater appreciation for my husband, kids and life. Time with my closest girlfriends does the same. It doesn’t happen enough, but is sooo needed.

Tricia - I think that it is wonderful that you were able to spend time with your friend before her giant move! Isn’t it amazing how energizing it can be to spend time with other women? I love my family, but spending time with friends always gives me a fresh perspective and it’s definitely something that I should do more often.

we could not have had better weather!

IMG_4965-8

IMG_4970-9

as soon as it was dark enough and every one had had their first helping of ice cream
we started the movie.

IMG_4987-11
i passed out blankets when it got chilly.
it was so fun to look out at so many friends watching them cuddled up with their families & laughing together…..
in the dark.

craig found the screen and projector on craigslist.com.
he looked for a full year.

gap year south africa - Great stuff the children were enjoying very well it looks awesome the parties all are cool and would have a great fun in those parties thanks for the blog to share a lot of things…:)

Axel Booe - Wow, that’s an ice cream party at its best! Those kids surely enjoyed this day. And the place is great too! It definitely made the event livelier. Cheers to this!

sugarbee - cool stuff…you must have a great camera…visit my blog please πŸ™‚

Audrey - Recently discovered your blog and am loving the craft ideas! We do movie night in our drive way 2-3 times every summer (for the last 3 years). It’s is so much fun and the kids LOVE it! We just project onto a big sheet hung on the garage door and it works out quite well but I may have to keep my eye out for one of those screens on craigslist. πŸ™‚
Thanks for all the craft ideas!
Audrey

Heather G. - Oh my gosh, how fun!!

susan - So fun! What movie did you find to keep all ages happy?

leonieke - hai meg, can i ask you for some advise? my daughter, who turnes 17 this month, wants to go to america to study for one year. Ofcourse there are lots of organisations trying to get us in, and we do orientate us, but i would love to here the experience of guestfamily’s. do you know some?
by the way, you are one of the reasons she wants to go, it looks like your life in america is one big happy party :-))

alicia @ la famille - HOW FUN!! i wanted to do an outdoor movie night, but couldn’t round up a projector. i found a cool old roll up screen at a rummage sale, but no projector πŸ™ gonna keep looking tho!

Jen - Me too, Michelle! I’m in melbourne and thankfully my local small IGA sells peanut butter m &ms and a few other US snacks!!

Michelle from Australia - Do you know how many of those scrumptious toppings and ice cream flavours we Australians are deprived of? When we were in Hawaii last November, I loaded up a duffle bag FULL of Reese’s pieces/sauces, Hershey stuff etc at Walmart. Coming back into Australia, the customs officer opened the bag, grinned at me and said ‘I can see you have a sweet tooth. And great taste!’. Oh how I wish the USA were closer to us πŸ™

gina - We love the pic of Jobie! Thanks for a super fun evening!

amy jupin - anna’s looking over my shoulder saying,
“that looks fun!”
“i want to do that too.”
“me and annie should be friends, right?”
“i like her hair.”
“i like the polka dot tablecloths.”
ok, i said that last one.

Julie - This looks like so much fun!!!

Rachel - That looks like SO MUCH FUN! I think it’s great that everyone was cuddled under blankets. And Despicable Me is a fantastic movie. I watched it while I was sewing one afternoon – see, not just for kids πŸ˜‰

Bill - Hi–Stumbled on your blog and posted with an FYI for you or those following you.

I hope, with all the people you had attending, that you acquired a public performance license for the movie(s) you showed. Movie Licensing USA and Motion Picture Licensing Corporation between them hold licensing rights for most of the major studios, and offer either one-time licensing or umbrella/blanket annual licensing for the studios with which they contract. Though it’s not likely that they will investigate local movie parties like this, if they do, they jump on “offenders” with boots on (and posting about a movie night online makes it more likely they will find out).

Looked like lots of fun, and I hope you enjoy many more!

Jes - I love Caribbean Sea!

jill - we just use a sheet, too! our favorite is to watch scary old movies with the grown-ups around halloween. we use lots of blankets!

Kinze Schilling - now that looks like a good time!

Sarah - I have been dying to plan this for my neighborhood in our cul-de-sac. A ‘drive in’ (bikes and trikes) movie so to speak! Cute!

Mindy Harris - that little boy in the osh kosh sweatshirt is so adorable you should’ve eaten him instead of ice cream. precious.

Jenny Wren's - This looks like a blast! I think you should definitely do this in the later Fall months, pick a good Christmas movie for everyone to watch, light a fire, eat popcorn, drink cocoa and just enjoy!

Tina I - We do the same thing and love it! No fancy screen for us, just a sheet tacked up against the screened in porch. Ours is coming up in a couple of weeks, just might have to steal the ice cream pitch in idea!

Kimberly Dial - We have a neighbor who that the same thing a few times every summer … it’s a great way to visit with fellow ‘Fall Creekers’ and the grandgirlies love it!

Kimberly Dial - We have a neighbor who that the same thing a few times every summer … it’s a great way to visit with fellow ‘Fall Creekers’ and the grandgirlies love it!

Casey - We do this often in our backyard with a white sheet clipped to our patio cover. The kids love it!

Holly - Our cousin has a huge inflatable screen that we have used in the past for movie parties. They are so much fun!

seriouslysassymama - That looks like alot of fun!

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - Oh how fun! That projector looks amazing!

Christy - That’s what I was thinking, no need to wait another year! Looks like a great time. Hot cocoa & popcorn + blankets & a fire, you would be all set! What a fun time! What a great neighborhood, almost makes me miss the midwest.

the conversation went like this…..

in my defense….
i had been sick and up all night the night before….literally ALL night.
and i had a headache and it was 100 degrees.
AND i was in the car with ALL my kids who were talking non stop.

so this is what went down:

ME:   So i was watching Jon Daily and Chris Rock was on and Jon said "You sent me that email and it was full of all this computer talk and i thought HE'S A NERD ROCKSTAR!"

CRAIG: nothing.

ME: and then Jon asked Chris  "if you could just have one part of the music what would it be….the soundboard and computers?  the stage?"  and chris says "a guitar and a camp fire"  and then Jon said "SO YOU"RE A HIPPY?!!!"

CRAIG: what?

ME:  what? you don't think it's funny?  OH WAIT…..not CHRIS Rock….KID ROCK!!!  ha ha ha

CRAIG: Kid Rock was talking to Jon Daily?  the golfer?

ME: what? NO?! Jon Daily! the Daily Show!!!

Craig: that's Jon Stewart!

ME:  oh….well…..whatever…..never mind!!!!!

i think it's time for me to get the mom translator………….

joe geronimo.

HA.

HA.

HA!

Jennifer S. - Lol. This post had me ROTFL!! Oh the tears of laughter. I know it was funny, but for some reason it brought about pure, tear producing, laughter! I guess I can just relate to it so much. Thank you very much for sharing that. Still giggling….:)

the whyte house - i knew exactly what you were talking about cause i flipped the channel as stewart was talking to him and caught the whole hippy part. kid rock definitely made himself sound smarter than i’d ever peg him to be. lol.

tori nelson - Haha! The funny part is that I totally understood what you were trying to say. Ah! The glories of Mom Speak!

Sarah - The whole time you were calling him Jon Daily I picture Jon Stewart. Hilarious!

Laura Phelps - the amazing thing is that I knew exactly who you meant πŸ™‚

Catherine - it’s sad that I knew what you were saying to Craig! It’s not a new problem, when the movie Jungle Fever came out my mom kept talking abut Skip Lee…WHO??? Oh, Spike Lee! Mom, how many black guys do you know named Skip? Then when Magic Johnson announced he was HIV positive…she asked if I had heard about Magic JORDAN…what?? It’s what happens to us, we lose cool points as we age

May - I related your story to my hubs yesterday and he thought *I* was the one who was telling the story wrong (mixing up Jon Stewart and John Daly). And then when I finished, he tells me “That sounds like a May-joke, getting everything wrong.”

danielle - Nice. I do not think my husband would have been able to follow that if I got all the names right! He does not really know who those people are. I never get to talk about celebs…so deprived.

Beth - Love the video!

Jen - I voted. And just so you know, as I was reading the conversation with your husband, I was following along, understanding exactly what you were saying, and thought your husband and mine,MUST be related somehow. Too much funny!

Beth - Not sure if this is a good thing for me to admit or not, but I knew exactly who you were talking about from your first sentence!

Elizabeth Ann - That is so funny! I need the mom translator too :). Love your blog btw! I am a new reader/ blogger and am so inspired and encouraged by you.

Diana - What?
Voted.
β™₯

Julie - That is hilarious!!!

Amy Slavik@ Little For A Little While - Oh my goodness, hilarious! Sounds like something I would do! Ha, love it! As long as we can laugh at ourselves its all good, right? Thought of you today as I splurged (at Target!) and bought myself two new dresses and 3 cardigans! What would we do without Target? Happy Monday!

Kimberly Dial - Sounds like many conversations here in The Dial Home between the hubs & myself … too funny! I sure could’ve used a mom-translator when my boys were teenagers πŸ˜‰ I voted for your friend’s cutie-pa-tootie. Hope she wins!

Kimberly Dial - Sounds like many conversations here in The Dial Home between the hubs & myself … too funny! I sure could’ve used a mom-translator when my boys were teenagers πŸ˜‰ I voted for your friend’s cutie-pa-tootie. Hope she wins!

Joanna - So hilarious!

Whitni - So this is completely and utterly off topic, but Michael’s craft store is carrying a line of French Bull party supplies. I saw them and instantly thought of the time you posted about them because I LOVED all the colorful dinnerware. If you have a Michael’s you should go check it out. I don’t remember it being too expensive and you could stock up πŸ™‚

Victoria - I voted…she really was the cutest baby!
Love your dress and shoes you wore out the other night.
You and your blog are always a breath of fresh air and a pick me up. πŸ™‚

Amanda - Right there with you. Awesome!

Cyndi Hamilton - So funny!! I do that too and my teenagers correct me all the time. They just roll their eyes and say “Mom, really?”

tara - glad I’m not the only one that needs a mom translator.
i voted for sweet pea….it took less than 10 seconds….and she really is the cutest in that bunch and the picture really is the most eye-catching!
just saying πŸ™‚

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - HA HA HAhahahaha…I could use a mom translator too. Very funny and I voted for your friend’s cutie pie!

shelly - Ha! So glad that I’m not the only one (and joe geronimo is a hottie!) I just asked my husband if he needed me to take the check to the bank’s house today….yes..I..did…but it’s hot, I have headache and I was thinking about swinging past my parents’ house in the same trip….

Holly - Ha,ha… I know Craig was workin hard to keep up with you, girl πŸ™‚
I found this boy on You Tube that plays all kinds of theme songs and oldies music and he is fabulous! He has a U2 song and I thought of you. Don’t just listen to it, find another one you like and listen… he is an amazing Korean guitarist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4CR3GoB3YY&feature=relmfu

ashley jensen - Hahaha! I knew you were talking about Jon Stewart and I have even called him Jon Daily while talking to my husband. He politely corrects me, and then laughs at me.

kathy b - The sad fact is because most of my interactions with my spouse and now like that. The older I get the more names I get mixed up. I kept calling my father-in-law’s mini stroke a T M I, when I should have said a T I A. Oh well to much information.
Kathy b

Kerri - Oh LAWD – sadly, I was following that convo right along with you…I need the translator< too!

Katy @ Live Laugh Love Craft - Hahaha! The conversation between you and Craig was priceless! πŸ™‚
I voted for that sweet, sweet baby. Hope she wins!!

Penny - I laughed so hard at this, it is exactly like something I would say. I read it to my daughter, Ryann, and she laughed and said, “yeah, you would say that!” And add me to all the others who knew exactly who you were talking about! Thanks Meg.

Kristin Hayne - That is how I roll 6 out of 7 days a week girl… no worries.
And voted…. was easy because I think she IS the cutest baby ever!! (aside from mine) πŸ˜‰

Angel/TaDa!Creations - Hilrious!!! Love the “mom-translater” too. πŸ™‚ Just voted! Let us know if she wins.

happygirl - Jon Daily. hahaha. I can’t stand that guy, so I LOVE this. Thank you so much.

georgia - I had one of them moments the other day at work. I’m 24 and like to think I’m quite up to date with music current affairs etc..
I said ‘I really like that song with JLO and bulldog’
Que the laughter and mickey taking.
Its apparently JLO and pitbull. I knew it was somekind of dog! Haha

emily horton - okay, I was automatically picturing the Jon Stewart Daily show when I read the first line… probably b/c I’ve never heard of Jon Daily, the golfer! Pretty funny!

Secret Mom Thoughts - Love the conversation. LOL. I voted for your friend. She is a cutie.

Jen - I knew right away you were talking about Jon Stewart. I’m a mom too!

kat - Okay, that is totally hiliarious!!! I voted for your friend’s pic!

Angie - Seriously laughed until I had tears streaming down my face! Funniest thing ever…because it’s soooo true.

Tracie - I was the same way, I knew exactly what you meant before the translation. You have a lot of kindred spirits. So funny.

meghan - i just have to comment because this made me laugh out loud. i knew EXACTLY what you meant even before the translation. crack up!

Christi Hoffman - I knew who you were talking about. lmbo! I LOVE to watch The Daily Show. I voted for the cutie! Hope she wins. πŸ™‚

mary - I knew what you meant. Ha ha.

danielle burkleo - you make me laugh. i don’t know anyone’s real name either.
πŸ™‚

Lisa - Oh my goodness, this made me laugh!! I’ve had those moments too πŸ™‚ And i voted for your friend. That’d be cool if she won!

good times.

after we moved into our first house in Illinois we started hosting our small group.
craig and i were the only couple with kids so it was easiest to meet at our house and get our kids to bed there.
lauren was 4 and scott was 1….i think.
peter was single at that time.
before small group he would come for dinner…play with the kids…hang out….help me pick up and get ready.
those are some really great memories for me.
i loved monday nights.
i miss those days!

IMG_2193-1
peter got married and then we moved.  :(
so we have not gotten to know his kids like he knew ours….which is such a bummer.
we see him once or twice a year which is not enough but so much fun to catch up when we do.
they met us at the bean last summer….

he was traveling in kansas for work and came for dinner this week!

after games, talking and dinner and dessert….suddenly our house turned into a WWF event…..

IMG_2213-2

IMG_2215-3
the noise level when this happens is amazingly loud!
everyone is yelling….the dog starts barking…..it's CRAZY.
but they are all happy and laughing.
no one is being hurt….it's play.
IMG_2220-4

IMG_2222-5

IMG_2225-6

we told the boys to say goodnight and goodbye to peter…..
IMG_2235-7
this was their way of saying that.

IMG_2237-8
ATTACK!!!
waffle wants to wrestle as much as anyone else.

IMG_2247-9

good times.

see you in july peter.

Suzi - I love your chore board, especially “pray” – can you post a close up?

elisa - Waffle, and the look on Peters face- lol

Kimberly - I’ve said it before…and I’ll keep saying it. Your husband is HAWT.

Rachel - I just totally smiled my whole way through that post. Thank you for all that happiness that just spilled across my computer screen πŸ™‚
Your kids are kinda awesome…

Charlene @ Adventures In Mommy Land - I miss these kind of things too. We had a good friend like that, who came over all the time. He even came over once when my husband was at work just to show me the deer he shot while hunting LOL! He got married and life moved on. I miss him. Watching him throw my little (not so little anymore) ones around was fun. We have other friends now, of course that wrestle with the kids and it’s still funny to watch (especially since one of them is usually half drunk when he’s doing it haha).
Thanks for sharing….I love reading about and looking at pics of other big families like mine.

julia - Whenever my son starts doing this to his younger sisters I tell them that it’s like he’s saying “I love you” and giving them a big kiss. It always makes him stop.

Carla G - I agree with Mrs. Lamb! I have been sharing birdie pictures with my first grade class and my 8 year old son . . . we are anxiously awaiting pictures of the 3rd birdie! Can’t wait to see how those naked little guys change. So cool!!

Julie - I love Annie’s face in the 4th picture. She looks so determined!

nicole @ deliajude - this is the stuff of great memories.
ps: i love the chore blackboard.

Mindy Harris - craig’s muscles!
*blush*

Sarah @ this farm familys life - That looks like so much fun! But in all the craziness, I am admiring the picture collages on the chalkboard in the background. Super cute! Where did you make them and order them? Please share! Thanks!
http://www.thisfarmfamilyslife.blogspot.com

Christy - these pics made me smile. πŸ™‚ looks like fun!

Lisa - Ahhh! I love good friends. πŸ™‚
We have a couple friends that we only see a couple times a year.
They are so special to our family! I feel blessed that
we have stayed so close even with living far away from each other.

Florpelayo.blogspot.com - I love that your husband joyfully plays along with WWF..
and that your dog wants to join in on the fun πŸ™‚
I dont know how you were able to get such good pics with all the flying bodies going everywhere! haha πŸ™‚
happy home.. love it.

Sugar Mama - Our Labradoodle does the SAME thing when we wrestle. He barks super loudly at the biggest person, like he’s protecting the smaller one. It’s always interesting to see who he chooses to “protect” when my husband and I are wrestling *eyebrow raised*

shelly - I LOVE that we’re not the only crazies with wwf matches like that! The boys usually end up in a hog pile on my husband and he comes roaring up out of them like Thd Arnold in Kindergarten Cop! Cracks me up everytime—thankfully they know that momma don’t play that!

Jessica Johnson - friends like that are the best! also, my kids need to do chores.

Valerie@Chateaualamode.typepad.com - I love stories like that. It’s really what life is all about right?

Alisa - I have been sharing your pictures of your “hatching nest” with my class each day. We printed the pictures and are enjoying the progress of God’s beautiful, amazing creation. My class asked me today if you had posted a picture of all three birds. WE NEED A NEW PICTURE!!!! Please post and tell us how they are doing.
Mrs. Lamb’s Third Grade Class, New Covenant School, Anderson, SC

Gemma @ Musings of a gem - So sweet that you guys still get together! It’s so hard to maintain friendships when everyone’s lives are changing!
Gemma x

Stephanie - Holy moley is that your front door???? I have a thing for front doors, wow that is amazing! Would you be so kind and give us a tour of some of the architectural details of your home? Please, pretty, pretty please!!!!!

Sandy - I love it! I had an uncle that played like Peter. Loved it – so much fun!! I’m glad you and your family got to visit with him.

Holly - your pillows sure are durable, lol! Great pictures!

Michelle - Great pictures meg! When my brother is home (he is in the Army) my boys play with him and my husband just like in your pictures here, they wrestle, and have pillow fights. Love, if you ask me πŸ™‚
Hey I was looking back at the very first posts you did on here, wayyyy back when in 2007, ohhh man, I just love to look back, annie looks so tiny, gosh, they really do grow up fast! Anywho, just wanted to let you know that I loved looking back at your pictures and your posts! I don’t know, I feel like you’re one of my very good friends, that I have never met in real life πŸ™‚
Have a great rest of the week!
–Michelle

ashley jensen - Haha! I love Craig picking Scott up to throw him down. It doesn’t matter that he is 13 and huge, he still does it like he’s 3! And Waffle’s open mouth is too cute. My husband, daughter and just had a wrestling session like this last week! Good times.

april - oh my goodness these pictures made laugh out loud!
1. the beast t-shirt
2. waffle getting into the mix of wrestling…that dog is awesome
3. annie being lifted by the hubs
4. pillows everywhere
good time for sure
xoxo

happygirl - I LOVE how guys show how much they love each other. It’s a little violent and scary, but I LOVE it. Thanks for the pics and I long for a loving small group.

two goobers.
in matching shirts.

miss you chicago jen!!!

can't we just visit each other every month???

Heidi Jo the Artist - Love the super big RED round table. I don’t like our oblong dining room table and have been thinking it would be awesome to replace with a round table, so everyone can see and talk with each other better, love it, especially in RED!
Kansas Cosmosphere here we come, well sometime. My son loves astronomy and this would be a perfect adventure for us. Not sure if we will be able to fit it into our summer though, booked pretty solid already and summer hasn’t even started yet!! Will be going on a tour here in May: http://www.nasa.gov/centers/glenn/about/testfacilities/plumbrook.html
Great video and matching shirts too!

Kathy - Have you ever printed your blog into book form? If you have, what are your recommendations on who to use? Thanks!

Valerie @ Chateau a La Mode - What would we do without super duper friends?!

Julie - I want to go to Roy’s. Bad. I want that big crazy red table.
Can you make those things happen?

Jennifer - Good girlfriends are the best! What a great friendship you have and what a gift to show your children what friendship looks like!

robin - your Annie reminds me so much of my daughter (looks and facial expressions) that when I see her on your blog, she makes me smile just from the similarities!
Cute video for sure.

Steph - We have recently moved and though I have struggled immensely, I realize that some deeply treasured friendships can handle long distance. Every time I see pictures of Chicago Jen and her fam, I am reminded of my California Kristen! Love it! Thanks for sharing!!

Dawn - Looks like a great time. The pictures were so funny of Annie. Too cute.

kat - These pictures are so cute!! I wish I could visit my best friends every month too!!!

Danielle - Annie is so stinkin’ cute:)

melanie - those polka dot shirts are super cute, where did you get them? I love memory making. thanks for sharing it with us.

Charlotte - looks like so much fun…what a blessing to have such a dear friend..you & Chicago Jen are very lucky ladies! Such precious kiddos too. thanks for sharing…love the video and the girls in the matching shirts!

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - fun fun fun. Love the girls in their matching shirts. And if I ever get the chance to come visit you in Kansas can you please take me to ROY’s? Im starving right now and wanted to lick my screen! It looks soooo good.
xo,
Sarah

pam - If you haven’t done it yet check out the Underground Salt Museum. It’s out by the BIGGEST grain elevator. http://www.undergroundmuseum.org/index.php We’ve never taken anyone to the Cosmosphere who has been disappointed. We still go to Hog Wild when we visit my parents. Dad talks about Roy’s but it’s never open when we’re there…..

Staci - So very fun!

Iris - Love the pictures at Roy’s BBQ. I live in Northern Canada, but have friends in Hillsboro, so when I went to visit a few years ago, they took me to Roy’s. YUM!! All friends should share Roy’s with their friends πŸ™‚

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - YAY! I get to see my Chicago Jen TONIGHT! Flying to Dallas to surprise a college roomies for her b-day. We are meeting at DFW and finding a place to laugh all night long!

Sarah@this farm family's life - Love good friends!

happygirl - This just looks like so much FUN. I can’t believe you were nervous. In real estate it’s LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. With visitors it’s the FRIENDSHIP the FRIENDSHIP the FRIENDSHIP.

Heather R. - Need to check out that BBQ joint and the Cosmo place! They might make our summer list. πŸ™‚ Love the video. Can’t believe how much Chicago Jen’s kids resemble them. Cute.

Kimberlee Jost - Thank you for making me WISH that the first grade field trip was to Roys. πŸ™‚

Carol S - Loved the video and the pictures and Roy’s looks fabulous! That toasted bread alone looks worth the trip. Could your son take a bigger bite next time? Happy times, thank you God for good friends and family and bbq sandwiches! Have a wonderful Wednesday Meg!

Terrie G - I hate to admit it, but I’ve lived here a year and I’m not sure I’ve even heard of Roy’s BBQ. Maybe my boys have been there. I’m sure we’ll check it out soon.
I recognized exactly where you were in Annie’s picture…I drive by it enough! πŸ™‚
And I think I’ll go download the original version of that song so I don’t have the chipmunks in my head all day long. Cute video! πŸ™‚

Julia - What a fun time. Could I please borrow Chicago Jen?
Kat…enjoy your last good year. Just kidding.
Maybe

Kat - Cute pics, esp of Annie and friend!
My kids also love that song and so do I, although maybe not the chipmunk version, lol.
Just want to say that it is my b’day today. Last year of being 39! Eek.
Hope your day is going well and that you get to see Chicago Jen again soon.
I won’t get to see my bestie until I turn 40, a whole year away.

spring break 11

um…thank you for buying (pretty much) everything in my shop.
you ladies are UNBELIEVABLE.
i love you.
i'm sorry for you that there were only so many of each thing and it went so fast.
i'm sorry that it gets crazy.
but it's fun too isn't it?  like black friday without the uncomfortable eye contact.

there are two matching quilty striped pillows left….and some prints.
i restocked the prints a bunch of times yesterday.
the two pillows are really cute….i was surprised they were left.
i think they are perfect for a boys room….blues, greens and browns.

so again….THANK YOU.
it was really fun to watch it all disappear!

now i will ship and ship and ship.

PLEASE go and double check that you paid and you completed your payment.
it's a bummer for me to have to track you down later.
thanks.

now….here is my REAL post.

***************************************************************************

my friends kerry & dan have 5 kids of their own and they run a dairy farm.

i went to visit this farm in january and it was…..an eye opener.

i have seen pigs and horses but never a cow close up.
not like this.
and i was not prepared.
i thought we were going out there for dinner.
i had no idea we'd go into the barn to touch the cows and be all up in their space.
i was wearing cloth leopard shoes.
i think it's safe to say i may have been the dorkiest person they have had out at the farm yet.
i tried to walk into the barn a bit and see the baby cow but i was so squeemish that i chickened out.

i blame the shoes.

but it was fascinating.
i said "i will be back…with my camera…..and my cowgirl boots….this MUST be on the blog!"

so when my city friend chicago Jen brought her family to town i knew it was the perfect time!

while our men golfed in the ridiculous kansas wind…..we went to the farm with the kids.

IMG_9788-16

kerry had warm cinnamon rolls in the kitchen, coffee for jen and i and fresh milk for the kids.
it was an all american scene.
my kids were loving every second!

IMG_9808-18

scotty was loving on baby kyler…..melts my heart!
kyler is so darn cute!
i got to be at her birth…a home birth….it was so cool.
annie loves to watch kyler's every move.
i like to cuddle her when she is sleeping.  :)

IMG_9821-19 IMG_9826-20

after our coffee we put on our boots and braved the barn.
poor jenny….we don't have the same size feet so she couldn't wear my extra boots.
i gave her some of our snow boots.
when we got out to the farm we realized they were both right feet!
she did just fine in her two right boots.  HA!
it was very funny.

IMG_9865-24
i wasn't nervous….but i was being…..cautious.
i am such a baby.

IMG_9851-21
everyone peeked into the milk tank.
it was ALOT of milk.

IMG_9854-22

no fear from the kids though….kisses for cows?  well of course!

IMG_9868-25

IMG_9873-26
we got to bottle feed a one week old calf.
seriously….i could have picked her up and taken her home.
if only they stayed that size.
it was SO ADORABLE!
except for all the snot…..that was a little gross.

IMG_9893-32 IMG_9904-1

IMG_9875-28

IMG_9883-30 IMG_9856-23

IMG_9908-33
oh how i love this kid.
he is just enough to make me crazy but when he is having a good day it's a great day for all of us.
and THIS was a great day.
i was so happy he was with us.

(excuse me but when did my boys think it was acceptable to grow up and be as tall as me??)
IMG_9912-34

aren't we a fabulous farm group?
we fit right in.
don't look out of place one bit.
ha.

IMG_9961-39
dairy cows are HUGE.
i couldn't get over how big they were……GiNORMOUS.

IMG_9887-31

IMG_9951-38
our gracious hosts.
seriously…..dan & kerry you were so good to us.
you spoiled us.
thank you thank you thank you.
sorry i was spazzy to the kids about the rules before we went in the barn.
i just wanted them to be good.
i am sure it was the joke of the day for you.  :)
i live to entertain.

IMG_9924-36
and just when the kids thought it couldn't get any better……TRACTOR RIDES!!!
it just went up and down but it was better than an amusement park for sure.

IMG_9941-37
i love when my kansas friends get to meet my jenny!!

(kerry…..doesn't jen have the best laugh ever?!)

IMG_9976-40
kerry's 10 year old son built this tree house.
by himself.
he is 100 times cooler than ty pennington in my opinion.

see how cool it is to live in kansas!?

the farm rocked.
i loved it.
jen loved it.
the kids loved it.

SUCCESS!

there is no one nicer in the world than my friend kerry.
she calls me Megs.
when i tell annie we are going to see her she says "which kerry?"
i answer "annie poo-pie kerry" because that is annie's nickname from Kerry.
and annie gets so excited!

kerry has a blog!
i want you all to mozy on over and give her some love right now!
scoot.
skeedaddle.

those are farm words for "get going"

πŸ™‚

Mrinal - Hi Tamara,Both Mike and I are well impressed with the couarge you showed by bringing your story into the open. The main theme in your story is your strong will and it shows your journey through life by applying that strong will in different ways. The fact that you have definitely found the way to use it in a very positive way currently, plus that you have the couarge to open up, makes you an only STRONGER and MORE inspirational role model as far as we are concerned!Mike and Saskia

Trysha - Whoops…that’s Annie, isn’t it?

Trysha - Love that photo of Talby getting ready to kiss the cow! Adorable!!!

Carol S - Awww, what a great day. Enjoyed all the pics of the day on the farm. Yes, your boys are getting bigger and bigger…it’s sort of cool and sort of scary, isn’t it? They only grow in one direction, and I’m getting ok with that (no option!) Have a happy Sunday.

Jenna Mitchell - the 2 right boots for Jenny made me laugh out loud!!!! And then when you posted the group picture I was drawn to Jenny’s feet…and laughed even harder. πŸ™‚

Jenny B. - So fun! I agree, though… big cows are a little scary up close.

happygirl - I love a dairy farm. I think dairy farmers are the hardest working farmers out there. Do they sell the milk? Do they make ice cream? I love a dairy farm.

EllenVR - I spy an OU shirt! Boomer Sooner!!!

Flower Patch Farmgirl - I love. Lu-hu-huv Chicago Jenny’s boots. (Are they snow boots?) I hope so.

Tiffany @ The Domestic Fox - Love love love moo cows – but Jerseys are my favorite! Can you tell I miss our cows?? πŸ™

april - ok ok meg…Im totally convinced….kansas IS cool!!!
april from california

Katy - Okay, when I first read that everyone peeked into the milk tank I thought it said that “everyone peed in the milk tank”! I had to reread that one. πŸ™‚ Looks like fun!

Amy - ..I guess I should have said does she live close to the town we both live in. I re-read that and it sounded kind of confusing. : )

Amy - Does your friend Kerry live close to the same town as we do Megan? I am trying to meet other local mom’s who have home birthed and would love to talk to her if she is willing.

Kelly - You Kansas people are all so fun! I am about to move to CO. Why do Kansas and CO have to be so big?! It would be so fun if we were only an hour or two away and could all play together! Kelly

tiffany - can kerry come to craft day? i wanna nickname too. sweet post.

Tracy Fisher - That was so awesome. I love the simple life…for a day or two every now and then. And I loved the snow boots!
Tracy

Jenna - Kansas is the best! I recently moved away after living there all my life, but I remain very proud to be from there πŸ™‚ Looks like fun times at the farm!

Jennifer - What a fun post! I can appreciate the cows. I grew up in the country in a small town in northeast texas. We lived on 28 acres and my granddad kept his cows on our land. It was great for my dad because he never had to worry about mowing the pasture…the cows kept it looking all nice with all their grazing. We had an electric fence to keep them in, but it never failed, one or two would always escape every once in a while. It usually happened when my dad was at work and so mom had to deal with it. I can remember how she (a born and bred big city girl who moved to the country because of my dad)…she would park our big ‘ole 80’s van at the end of the driveway to block the cows from escaping down the oil road and honk the horn to keep them in until my granddad could get out there to chase them back in behind that electric fence. Good memories your post drudged up…
Last thought…love your hair, Meg!! It makes me want to cut mine short again. πŸ™‚

hannah - what a fun friendship! i’ve always loved visiting farmer friends, such a treat to taste their beautiful lives! thanks for sharing, love all your photos:)

Erin - what a cool all-american experience! i live overseas and before moving abroad i was a city girl but i am jonesing for the country (hubs grew up on a farm/in a farming family in iowa). yes, it was still fun to try to buy your stuff…better luck next year. πŸ˜‰

Heather - I had a crazy hectic deadline day yesterday and was so sad that I missed out on all of the fun pillows in the shop, but your pictures today cheered me right up! I think it’s just in my blood to love farms. πŸ™‚ Also, I need to know where you got your boots- they’re cute!!

sarah - work those cowgirl boots, lady!

Valerie@Chateaualamode.typepad.com - That is SOOOO COOOL MEG! I’m a city girl. Born and raised in the LA area and I want to move to Kansas! I just might be your neighbor one day πŸ™‚

kristine - scott holding kyler is one of my faves so far from 2011. he looks so proud and his smile is CHAR-MING!
that tractor ride is AWESOME and the tree house!??!?! holy cow! he could grow up and have his own show like ty! πŸ™‚
so bummed to miss out on a hoodie yesterday. by the time i’d click to see what size the listing was and have to click back, they’d be gone. i’m SO proud of you. what did craig say!?

pam - I think that’s one of the cleanest barn floors I’ve ever seen. Always good to expose ourselves to different ways of life….it will amaze us what people do to provide that daily glass of milk or that slice of bread. I miss the wheat fields of Kansas….they are so gorgeous in the summer.

Vonda - The cows made me smile! We had a dairy farm for 10 years. Lots of work! I used to be in charge of feeding the calves, until the boys got big enough to do it! Then I would go work with my Mom and sister at our flower shop. That smelled a lot better!:) We live in a town with lots of dairy farms, so we’ll be driving along and my daughter will go “ew, what’s that smell?!” Then I have to remind her that she used to live on a farm! We moved when she was 2 so she doesn’t remember it at all. Dairy farmers are special people-always on call!

virginia - now THAT is country living!
the tractor ride picture is so cool, i like all that it conveys

Jennifer - That tree house is amazing! My boys wouldn’t even know where to begin doing something like that. Very cool!

Gemma @ Musings of a gem - Wow what an amazing experience…those cows are HUGE!
Gemma x

Lori Danelle - I LOVE Kerry!! (Although, it’s been such a long time since I’ve seen her, I’m not sure she’d remember be any more!) Excited to start reading her blog. I watched Footloose for the very first time at her house while hanging out with her sister Jenny & friend Kristy as they got ready for Berean’s Jr./Sr. Banquet WAY back in high school. (Fitting, eh?) Needless to say, we had a bit of fun!
And I love being from KS. DEFINITELY NOT a country girl, but I do love the country. I got to experience the best of bothβ€”not that Wichita was exactly a booming city when I was growing up, but I suppose it sort of counts. πŸ™‚ One weekend we’d be running around Wichita doing whatever crazy teenagers do, and the next we’d be roasting marshmallows over a fire in the middle of a field and playing hide-and-go-seek amongst the hay bales.
LOVE it.

Jennie brewer - I’m sitting at the salon under the dryer that magically makes me a blonde. I just laughed out loud at your comment about wearing cloth leopard shoes. People are staring, but I’m just gonna keep on enjoying my day with no kids, my starbucks, a new haircut, and your hilariousness. Thanks Meg!

Amy T-Y - Yes, it is AWESOME to live in Kansas! I’ve lived here all my life, both in Kansas City & in a small town called Basehor (about 30 min. east of Lawrence). My dad has 60 acres, a barn, cows, 4-wheelers. The whole she-bang. (Did I just say she-bang??). And he lives on a gravel road with rusty, dusty pick-up trucks. The midwest is awesome. Did you let the cows lick you? They have seriously thick & scratchy tongues! And if you ever get a chance, you should definitely take your kids to Shatto milk farm (an hour outside KC) where they produce the hugely popular organic milk (you even get to sample the root beer, orangesicle & coffee flavors!). Also visit Deanna Rose Farmstead (in S Overland Park), it’s free even! Ya know, just come up for Worlds of Fun & make a weekend (or week!) of it. & feel free to take my family’s pics while you’re in town . . . just sayin.’

Andrea - We had milk goats when I was growing up. When I went to Ohio State Univ., I worked at their dairy farm. It took me awhile to get used to how BIG the cows are! But milk cows are pretty complacent – until they come into heat! The OSU dairy had Jersey cows too. They were the best! More personality and beautiful big brown eyes. I had to start work at 4:30 am…but got to watch the sun rise over downtown Columbus. (Also, could fit in the classes I needed but that is besides the point.)

Sandy - I hope Talby hasn’t taken over the starring role in let’s find the teenager. Looks like great fun! Your family is so blessed!

Christy - Love these pix, looks like you guys had a good time. I love how fierce Annie looks in the group shot…lol

karen - wow..look at the size of the cows head compared to yours!!
That looked like so much fun! My 3 year old son would have loved that tractor ride…now that’s a tractor ride!!

Samantha - I loved this post! I am from a small town and my uncle was a diary farmer! It’s awesome your kids get to experience that when so many don’t anymore!

Jodi - You.are.brave.
I grew up with cows all around me and never have I ever petted one (unless they were in the stall about to get their meds and they couldn’t go anywhere)… I was always too nervous around them…
then again, my granddaddy raised his for meat… not milk… so maybe milk cows are happier??
looks like a wonderful day was had by all!

steph - ha! i’m diggin’ chicago jen’s boots in that group pic!
LOL! that is awesome!
and i love the pic of the kids on the tractor.
so fun and cool!
FWIW, i would have been kinda nervous around the cows too.
i’m pretty freaked of larger animals.
scared they’d bite my finger off or something. ewww!
glad you guys had a great time!
are you convincing jen to move to kansas yet?!?!?!? πŸ˜‰

Heather - Very cool! We went to friend’s dad’s farm where he still HAND MILKS one of his cows twice a day! My girls got to milk the cow! My 6 yo can seriously squeeze some udders! Did you try any FRESH milk? It’s hot. Like steamin’ hot. Would’ve been OK with some Hershey’s, without – not so much! Livin’ in Kansas can totally rock, when you know some cows, that is. πŸ™‚ Looks like you showed Chicago Jen a boot scootin’ good time!

shelly - I remember my Dad doing the same thing with me and a loader when we lived on the farm! Oh, the memories!!! There’s nothing better than those huge calf eyes and the smell of milk replacer (yes, even with the slime!). πŸ™‚

Heather R. - Cool farm! I love the fact she had the milkman’s kids…ha! The cows are huge. And I love the tree house. πŸ™‚

crystal - if you think dairy cows here are huge…you should see them in holland. they were like giants there and SO beautiful! πŸ™‚

Jemm - Cows ARE huge. When we moved out to the ranch it was amazing to me how big they are. Huge and gentle, it’s amazing. Glad you and the kids were able to experience that. I think that’s really important for kids to see were our food comes from. What great friends you’ve got!

julia - Things I would have wanted to ask…is this skim milk?…is it pasturized?…..where are the cows that make chocolate milk?
Love the poses of the little girls in the group picture!

Holly - that looks like a lot of fun for sure!

Sarah@this farm family's life - Yum! farm fresh milk…that’s all we drink here. glad you had a good time experiencing the farm life!
