BIG….and i don’t like it.

IMG_0705-1

something clicked with annie this weekend.
she said "let's try my bike mom"
i have been asking her for a year to try riding her bike….she was finally ready.
and of course she could do it almost right away.

IMG_0712-2
showing me that she is six.

IMG_0717-3
technically…..I taught her how to ride.
craig was gone with scott at basketball all day and i was home with the 3 youngest.
and i ran up and down the block.
i aired up the tires.
i fixed the seat.
but no one takes pictures of me doing that.
honestly though…..what is hotter than a man teaching his kid to ride a bike?
it is hot.
plain and simple.
mr. duerksen you are steamy.

IMG_0769-4
this bike is old.

i think it was talby's first bike.
maybe….but it does the job.
the training wheels came off and it was time to go!

she kept falling and was getting frustrated.

she whined tearfully  "I KEEP MESSING UP!"

and i said "well….maybe it's because it's your first day and you aren't quite awesome yet ok?"

to which she shouted at me very loudly "I AM AWESOME!!!"

i giggled and said "ok! then go be it!  don't waste your time whining about falling!"
so funny.
IMG_0773-5
by day two she was a pro.
she wore her soccer shin guards under her pants to feel safe.
there is a parking lot a block away and we spent a lot of time there this weekend….riding in circles.
and only one bike wreck.  :)

we went to the store for helmets and then annie found the bell.

IMG_0805-6
i think of "the family man" every time i hear it.  (that's my bell.  she took my bell.)

sean is so silly.
we tried to make him laugh and he made his OWN joke and cracked up at that instead.

IMG_0856-8 IMG_0869-10

while at the store i let talby pick out a bike.
hers got stolen last year and she has never asked for us to buy her another one.
she is sweet like that….she knows they are expensive and didn't want to ask.
so i said "which one do you want babe?"
i liked her choice…pink bike but a not-too-girly dirt bike….she was thrilled.

IMG_0863-9
i could kiss that face forever.

IMG_0875-11
and they all think it's just fine to grow up and be big.
BOO.

it's not.
their mom misses her babies.
their mom liked when they fit on the back of her bike.
their mom liked the tiny bike helmets with dora or dinosaurs.

doesn't anybody care about the mom????

i miss that stuff.

but.….this new stuff is pretty good too.
in the kind of way that makes you want to bawl your eyes out.

time is a mean…..thing.

(i almost said a bad word there)

Carol S - Sweet post Meg. A real milestone…the last one riding a bike. We’ve got no choice but to roll with this! Mine are 12 and almost 17 and I’m loving every stage. Looking at colleges with my high school junior, which is exciting and bittersweet, but if we do it right, they grow up good and ready to leave us and be independent. I can handle this concept now, with the leaving part over a year away. Not sure how I’ll feel a year from now when it is a “year of lasts”. Gotta believe we can do this! Happy Easter!

Crystal - Oh Meg, Meg, Meg. You know what I love about you? You get it. You get how AWFUL (yet wonderful) it is to watch your kids get bigger. It Breaks.My.Heart. Birthdays kill me. They make me sad. Pictures of my little girls when they were babies make me so sad. Why is it so heartbreaking? Most people I know don’t go through this. I truly try to hang on as hard as I can but just can’t make the time stop. πŸ™

cam - 2 things.
1) I dig the shin guards. Always good protection when learning to pedal a bike. Last thing you need is the pedals smashing your shins.
(Presumably this was taken either before/after soccer, but y’know… )
2) The Basket kicks ass… what better way to carry mom & dad’s beers while you bike around the neighborhood?!

mel @ the larson lingo - I love that she wore her soccer shinguards to feel safe!!! That is AWESOME!!

Karen - The important thing is that you are realizing it Meg. You aren’t one who looks back and never took it in, in the first place. Then when your children are grown, and you are getting tired, and the grandchildren come along—there are no regrets. Just satisfaction that you did your best. YOU are awesome too!

Lanny - our little Annie …

Jennifer - My girls had that bike too! And I think I have the same bike that Talby just bought (I’m short so I got a kids). I have a lovely picture of my husband running down the street with our youngest teaching her how to ride a bike….with a beer in his hand. Haaaaaaaaaay baybeeeeeeeeeeeee. We’re classy like that.

Sarah - I love how happy your kids are. One day they will look back and remember all of the fun/normal/everyday things you do. This is a good reminder to enjoy the day-to-days time and make the most of ii because another stage is just around the corner.

Savvy - This post made me teary eyed….my lil man is 4 going on 24 I swear.
Having only one has made me more aware of time.
Love your post and pics. Thanks

kari - love this, meg.
and the shin guards…absolutely classic!

Kristin S - She looks SO happy in the pic with Craig. Nothing like a daddy and his girl. I’ll refrain from commenting on your comments in that section! πŸ™‚ I love how you love your man.

Terrie - Okay…I started my morning reading this post…made me cry. My ‘baby’ turned 20—TWENTY! I thought about that…and cried again. So glad no one was home to see that! I feel your pain!
Just checked out the doodle eggs…you will be great at that! Did you check out her watercolor eggs post? Fabulous! I think I’ll head out and buy some watercolor pencils tomorrow! πŸ™‚

Tracie K - Darn you! You made me cry πŸ™‚

Dawn Eshnaur - I agree about wanting to say bad words! My 6’5″ “Baby” is about to graduate! Where did all my boys go? I have been crying every time I turn around these days. How could they all be grown? So very sad……:(

jennibell - Great! I actually liked it once my kids all got big enough to ride their bikes. . .and take out the trash. . .and take their own showers. But every stage is special. I see Annie’s tooth is already growing in — wow! It was *really* ready to come out!!! Hope the weather stays nice so you can have more days on bikes πŸ™‚

AshleyAnn - The Littlest Pet Shop helmet with the front tooth barely poking out…priceless. That is a picture you will do nothing but smile at in the future. Sweet nature that Talby has…

carissa... brown eyed fox - it IS all about the bell ya know! :O)
i had a moment with riley this week too!!!!!!!!
those moments sneak up us… the tough/crazy part… it’s because they are growing up!
all too fast!
all good but…
make it stop! :O)
i love their smiles… yall all have the best smiles!

Staci - Agree…time can be mean…buttt, I try to think of new great things we’ll encounter….and then, having alllll the time you want for Mr. Steamy πŸ™‚ But yes, I do love this time….which reminds me to get the bike back out and have my little guy give it a try πŸ˜€ Annnnd, I’m just wondering how many people are going to ask you about that house next door for sale….heeeheee….you know everyone wants to be your neighbor πŸ˜‰

Lolli - I agree, my husband too…. so hot while teaching our son to ride. I coulda watched that all night. πŸ™‚ Wanna see a picture?

mkpoggie - 1: Totally agree on the hotness of dads. Our daughter is still in utero, but my husband, who is tired of the stereotype that girls aren’t good at math, is already super excited to teach her to love it. I imagine this will make my heart explode.
2: Anybody else want to know Sean’s joke? I do.
3: People that steal bikes make me want to cry. Especially when the victim is a sweet little girl.

Tracy Fisher - oh yeah.. forgot to tell you my bike story…
Brooke took a month of scardy cat screams on “grass only” to learn to ride a bike as I exhaustingly watched and tried to help. Mason learned to ride in 30 minutes when I was at the grocery store because Greg offered him $20 cash if he could ride without training wheels before mom got home! haha
Tracy

Tracy Fisher - I have tears in my eyes. I get it!
Meg, I have a Father’s Day gift idea for you (if you are interrested). I posted the story of “I Love You” frames on my blog. It made me think of Craig when I went to your blog today.
Happy Tuesday… hope it’s sunny so you can all go ride your bikes.
Tracy (www.tfisherart.com)

April M - “I AM AWESOME!”
and I’m going to quit whining about the stumbles πŸ™‚
thanks for that!

Courtney Walsh - wooohooo! Go Annie! πŸ™‚
Ethan was six before he was ready to ride alone…now we just tackled the big bike (it’s a size bigger than the one he learned to ride on) and seriously he was ecstatic. It never gets old, does it? Watching them do something new!? πŸ™‚

Erin - love this whole family! i think you should take another michigan vacation so that the michigan meg fans can have a big party!

se7en - You have the cutest kids… really, enjoy every second of them!!!

Alisa - Gretchen you are so right about the taking off the pedals thing – that way kids really learn to balance first and then pedal. We live in Germany and here most kids have a no-pedal bike made from wood when they are 2 – and then ride bikes at the age of 3-4. It is also common here to never ever even have training wheels – they are considered dangerous on curbs and they keep kids from balancing on their own. Kids also tend to be more fearless at 3. At the age of 6 they are more afraid and falls off of bikes are from a higher distance. Of course then you end up having lots of different sized bikes by the time kids grow up. But we ride a lot here and a bike is cheap compared to the price of gas!

Amber - I love everything about this post EXCEPT that the two older kids are not wearing helmets Yikes!!

Jennifer Evans - must be something in the air- my six year old learned to ride her bike without training wheels this week also! I know how you feel- breaks a mama’s heart!

Julia - I walked past the baby section at Target this morning and got all sad. Then I slapped myself upside the head and went to the beach…alone.

Laura Phelps - dang it
ok
I changed my profile back
it is me

Laura Phelps who should go to bed and not be reading blogs this late at night - Craig IS hot
and the bell in The Family Man…oh man, I cry thinking about it
my favorite movie
and I am with you on the BIG
not a fan
I have been stalking babies
Jack looked at me at the mall today..I was playing peek a boo with a baby
he rolled his eyes, and said, “come on Mom…”
we went to GAME STOP
no babies there
but BIG is OK I guess
I know
Let’s have margaritas to make ourselves feel better….

Jen G - I love how much you love your husband!:) And you are so right, nothing is hotter than your husband spending time and teaching your kids how to do something! I also loved the “I AM AWESOME” quote from Annie – I think I may use that when my children are mad at me about something or don’t like what I make for dinner.

julie - awww your post made ME want to bawl my eyes out! my youngest is 8 (almost 9!) months old. i know that sounds really young, but it’s not. she’s growing so fast. i tell her every day to stay little, but she just doesn’t listen. she’s stubborn, like all three of her big brothers. and her dad, too. i refuse to say i’m stubborn. ha!

Gretchen - Love it, Meg! My daughter just learned to ride sans training wheels too! And get this — it was in less than two total hours (spread over two days). I asked another mom how her little one (maybe 3?) was already zooming around on a bike with no training wheels and she shared with me the most amazing secret — and I have NO IDEA why it’s still a secret! (And incidentally, she learned it by asking someone she saw at the park.)
So I’m officially spreading the word here:
Take off the training wheels (yeah, a no brainer) AND take off the pedals. Yep. I said pedals.
Have them sit on the seat, make sure their feet touch the ground enough that they can push off the ground with their feet. Then lift the feet into the air and coast. Small coasts at first, but they get longer and longer. They learn to balance soooo much faster this way. I guess they’re not distracted with balance and pedaling. I dunno. Anyway, we found a spot at a park with a slight decline (nothing crazy at all) and then when she pushed with her feet she coasted a good long while! Her face lit up. It was like we were sledding — she just kept wanting to go back to that incline. Push the bike up, ride it down.
The pedals were back on that evening when we got home and …. she took off. Un-friggin-believable!
I remember all that dad time running alongside me as a kid, too.
I know what you mean — it’s bittersweet. So sad to see her not need the training wheels. But so huge to see her have her “girl power” — I’m guessing that’s her version of your “I am awesome!”
You go girls!
(And seriously folks. Try it. Take the pedals off. Make it a push bike. Takes less than a day. The balance clicks. Put the pedals on and off they go.)
Then you can sob. πŸ˜‰

Sarah - Oh say the bad word…I think the same thing!!!

Lisa - Love this post! My youngest is 2 but is already so independent. I have baby fever. But I try to focus on the positives of my kids getting bigger… like no diapers, no toddler to keep busy while trying to watch my older kids activities, vacations being easier (they do get easier right?!) etc. its hard having them grow up for sure. btw I love that you let your kids dress themselves. I sometimes feel like I’m the only one whose kids are mismatched and not perfectly dressed! πŸ™‚

danielle - go annie!
i love all these pictures.
come to new york and you can have a baby fix.
seriously. come to new york.

Necole - My almost three year old just let me know she was ready for school. This means I will not have any of my babies home two days a week. My seven year old already wants “to be left alone” so she can relax in her room. What is that?

elisa - Ha- Cole did the same thing while learning to ride- shin guards, roller-blade pads, etc. SO funny.

kat - Sweetness! This post totally made me tear up. It’s amazing how fast they grow up!!!

alaina - Dangit Meg….you made me cry!! The comment that dropped me was “I could kiss that face forever”. I have 3 of those faces, one who is 10, and he still lets me sort of, and 2 who are in college. Life is awesome at this stage and I am so proud of the godly men they are and are becoming, but I can barely look at those photos from their childhood without getting that “I miss you so much” feeling in the pit of my stomach. I remember telling my husband on their graduation day, could I have just 1 day back in time to hug and kiss and snuggle my baby boys? It goes quickly…but it is all good. Off to grab another box kleenex – thanks Meg!

Michelle B - I have a six year old that we need to work with getting those training wheels off – can you drive to Iowa to teach him? Because you do a great job! And here you are sad your babies are growing and I am knee deep in sleepless nights and dirty diapers and maybe wishing to get past this stage. I was just crying to my mom last night that how hard it is with a 6 year old, 4 year old and 8 month old..in which she reminded me that it is tough…but I will miss it. someday I will miss it. I guess I will. But sleeping all night and riding bikes sounds good too. πŸ™‚

Andrea - Oh, and I also LOVE how much you are still in love with your husband and are not afraid to tell everyone how sexy you think he is! I love a man in a t-shirt and ballcap. Good thing – that is about all my husband wears when he is not in his firefighter uniform (talk about looking HOT!).

mandy friend - love your girl’s confidense. my daughter taught herself to ride a 2 wheeler…i felt like a totally crappy mom for not doing it. she just ran iun one day and said”mom, aiden took off my training wheels and i’m riding my bike”

purejoy - pretty sure your daughter gets her awesomeness from you. and yes, your hubs is hawt.
with a 19 {almost 20-year-old} and one that’s 21… my “babying” days are far behind. but not my mothering days. thank goodness. celebrating all their accomplishments… it’s a great thing. even getting big. hugs, mom!

Andrea - I love that my youngest, also 6, still wants me to cuddle with him every day after kindergarten. I remember pushing my oldest to walk, talk and do things – excited for each new step. Now I just hold on, hold on, hold on. I squeeze my little boy each night and tell him he is not allowed to get any bigger – he just giggles at me and says “you can’t stop it!” πŸ˜‰

tara pollard pakosta - awwwww I hate that they have to grow up!
My daughter just learned how to ride a 2 -wheeler last year, at almost 9 years old! I was fine with that though!
hugs mama!
xoxo
tara

heather - my baby turns 7 today.
7!!! how in the world did that even happen?
time IS a mean, mean…thing. πŸ˜‰

Ashlyn - I am with you. I have loved every age and stage they have been…but ooooohhh it is hard to watch my babies grow up.
I had one home sick yesterday, so I got to do some babying…which I love!
Great pictures!
Ashlyn

leonieke - yeah,.sure. new things are good too. But I so understand your feelings about the time they were babys! those little shoes, little clothes, all the hugs in the world, and especially the thing that they think there mother knows everything.

Gemma @ Musings of a gem - So cute! I really like Talbys bike : )
Gemma x

Shannon - Everytime I read one of your posts you make me want to have another baby! Everybody keeps telling me I can’t just have more and more because I want babies and I don’t get why they have to grow up then!!! Sorry all your kids are getting big, it really isn’t fair at all πŸ™

Daniele Valois - I love how you always talk about your husband being so hot! It’s so fun, and lovey! I do it too, and embarrass people, and my kids!

robin - The look of glee on Annie’s face in the pic with Craig is priceless. It brought a tear, thinking about how all of our kids are growing up.

Judy @Considering the Options - Time does go by so quickly! Our boys are 13, 15, and 17 and I feel like life is a NASCAR race. New phases coming at me at break-neck speeds. And I’m busy trying to capture the moments – if not with my camera, at least in my heart. Savoring every moment!
Thanks for sharing and reminding us to enjoy life!

Darcy - I agree, Meg. My youngest is turning 7 today and I am so sad. (happy for him, but sad for me).

Kim - Love “I AM AWESOME!!!” and your comeback “ok! then go be it! don’t waste your time whining about falling!”
My youngest will soon be eight. He is cool and querky and says the most amazing, funny things. I want to freeze this part of his life.

Katrina - Time IS a meanie. I totally agree. My oldest will be 13 in two short short months. I keep thinking about your oldest hiding from the camera. I don’t want my baby hiding too. We do have some amazing kids though. We just need to try to grab some of those little moments (like teaching the little one to ride a bike) and hold them tight inside. Best wishes.

Tiffany - Mr Duerksen you are steamy, crack me up! He def has the whole shoulder thing going on, in a your husband is kinda hunky kinda way. Kudos to you too Mom, you hit the nail on the head, with no one takes pictures of me doing that…But they do, in their heads and they will remember in their hearts. Holla!

alyssa - time is a mean thing. they get so big so fast.

Jessi - “and honestly what is hotter than a man teaching his kid to ride a bike?”
I can’t wait for this in my family πŸ™‚

Kimberly Dial - I agree … ‘time is mean’ …. I remember when my boys learned to ride .. yeah, back when they were boys & not men (31 and 28 sniff, sniff)… your children are adorable … enjoy!

Kimberly Dial - I agree … ‘time is mean’ …. I remember when my boys learned to ride .. yeah, back when they were boys & not men (31 and 28 sniff, sniff)… your children are adorable … enjoy!

JulianneB - Such fun memories. I taught both our boys, now 18 and 15 how to ride bikes. We didn’t have sidewalks on our street so it took a while. Naomi, our seven year old, basically taught herself. Over a year ago, she came in and asked for us to take her training wheels off. We did and warned her that it might take awhile to get the hang of it…it didn’t she went right out and rode by herself. The next day our neighbor girl, same age, saw Naomi riding and asked her Dad to take her training wheels off and same thing happened. From then on they have ruled the sidewalks of the ‘hood with their bikes.

Emily - I just love your blog! It’s the first thing I look at every morning and it makes me smile everytime πŸ™‚ Thank you for doing what you do!!

sarah - I HATE that time passes so quickly.
Kenzie has been riding her tricycle, I will probably cry when she gets a big girl bike.
A man being a Father is so hot. πŸ™‚
Kenzie saw the close up picture of Annie with her helmet on, and said “She’s pretty!”

Stephanie - Have you seen the hysterical bike helmets at Target? So darn funny! Shaped like different animals with ears and things sticking up from the top. I want one!

brooke - meg- i have two babies…16 months and 20 months thanks to the joy of adoption. anyway…it’s been a hard couple days with two tantrum throwing teethers. thanks for the encouragement to enjoy this stage…even though it’s tough.
your little girl is too much fun! and yes, she is AWESOME πŸ™‚

Alicia @ La Famille - mine are getting too big too πŸ™ almost makes me want to have another…almost πŸ™‚

Jodi @ The Un-Soccermom Blog - super, super sweet. :o)

Zizette - We need to take the training wheels off my baby’s bike as well. I agree boo to growing up too.
Zizette

Sarah@this farm family's life - Cute. We are trying to teach our 5 yr. old how to ride a bike and she keeps saying when she is 6 she will do it without training wheels, but not right now. Maybe she is right….

melissa rice - Amen. I once heard at a conference the speaker said “men if you want to turn on your wives, play with their kids”!!! so true.
It goes by so fast… I wish they came with a pause button

happygirl - I can’t even remember when I didn’t want my son to grow up. I love hearing it from you. I enjoy your blog so much. I love hearing how your children are breaking into each new stage of life. Love it.

Ryanne - Good post. I try to remember the “growing up” part and time whenever I am frustrated with 3 under five. Thank you for the reminder and perspective.

Tess S - “I AM AWESOME” this will be my quote for the day. The Family Man is one of my all time top fav movies. (Maybe not all-time…)

Chaos-Jamie - I feel ya, Megs. Baby fever like you would not believe over here.

Rebecca - They DEFINITELY shouldn’t be allowed to grow up. I LOVE the movie Family Man! Nicholas Cage is so good! I love the little girl with a lisp, knowing it’s not her daddy when he’s changing the diaper and then knowing he’s “come back” at the end!!! Genius!
Have a great Tuesday! XOXO

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - This spring will be my latest attempt to get my SEVEN year old on her brand new bike. She hated it last year. We had taken her to a big open parking lot to teach her in a wide open space and she had a really bad fall. Maybe if I wrap her up in bubble wrap she’ll feel more safe. Ya think?:)
Love the pics. They document this step of her life so well. And I totally know whatcha mean about babies growing up. Mine will be off to 1st grade in the fall and I cry every time I think about it.
You always hear “treasure these moments. They’ll be gone all too soon.” but you dont believe it until you’re THERE and by then its too late.
Have a great day!
XO,
Sarah

Dianne - She looks SO MUCH like Talby in that first picture! She is getting big! My oldest will be in kindergarten next year…and quite frankly…I’m in denial πŸ˜‰

Sandy - I still have the cute little bubble (looking) helmet my son wore as he rode on the back of my bike 14 years ago. So sad…he’s 17 1/2 and over 6′ tall now. In some ways that’s not a bad thing, but I sure miss my babies too!
So sweet of you to surprise Talby with a new bike! I’m sure she was thrilled.

Heather R. - Cute. My hubby taught our girls to ride. He was so proud of himself. πŸ™‚ I love the one tooth missin’ and the shin guard idea…sweet.

Ana M - You are truly and deeply AMAZING and AWESOME !!! I love to read your posts… Always funny and full of truth in every word… Tomorrow my youngest will turn 7 !!! She is the last child of the family and I’m already missing these days of childhood and innocence…bummer…but life goes on…We must cherish every single moment of theis lifes and enjoy just being with them…
Love

random monday morning

everyone asked about my photo collages.
that is so random.
i love it.

IMG_0537-11

i made them at picnik.com
back on this post….talking about my favorite posts from 2010.
it's part of the collage section.
it's a premium feature though not in the free version.

i hung them on pom pom trim (joann's or walmart or hobby lobby has it) from little clothes pins in the craft dept.

i printed them as 12×12's at scrapbookpictures.com.

their website is a little bit….lame.

but their product is fabulous.
great prices.
great shipping.
i use them for everything i have printed in the past 5 years.
so don't give up when you first go to their site.

———————————————————————————————–

someone asked me about my awesome wreath….

IMG_0527-8

it's from danielle.
she is saving her pennies and getting crafty to go to blog sugar.
you should get one and help her out!
they are cute!
i canNOT wait to meet her!

———————————————————————————————-

i think that "wildflowers" by tom petty could be the best song in the history of all songs.

———————————————————————————————–

sometimes i have the thought:
"if i have to go to the grocery store ONE MORE TIME i may lose my mind."

this month i have been thinking that all the time.

even if i was more organized……

i would still have to go.

i am tired of that chore….over and over and over.

BUT….as i type those words….i can hear my spoiled little mind…..so lame….boo hoo you have to buy food.
i need to change my thinking.

make it a positive.

i GET to provide my family with healthy food.
i GET to go to a giant store with more food than i could eat my entire lifetime.
i need to quit whining.

———————————————————————————————-

IMG_0660-1

i got to see her.  :)
she looked very grown up and pretty.

thanks for sharing all your prom stories…it was a nice distraction!

———————————————————————————————

i have lots to do today….if i can stay motivated.
leaves are coming out of the flower beds finally.
phone calls and errands.
and the groceries.
AND JILLIAN….week 3 starts today….i am kind of afraid of what it involves….sore muscles for sure.

what does your monday have going on?

update:   SQUAT JACKS in week 3
               pushup/headstands
and jumping on one foot….who knew that this would be difficult?
annie just showed me that jumping on one foot was going to be her talent for  the church
               talent show next week.
and apparently it IS a talent because i can't do it more than three times.
what have i done to this body?!
why didn't i appreciate it when it looked like it did for prom 1991?????

Hayley - I keep referring back to this post and now I am FINALLY ordering collages…what resolution do you save the collage in to have clear 12×12 print outs?

Annie - Oh Meg—I can so relate to the grocery comment. Seriously—we are so blessed here in the United States–I have 2 full grocery stores less than a mile from me where i can get ANYTHING I WANT. Oh MY GOSH….I have NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT! I have been following your blog for awhile and I think this is the first time I’ve commented. I so enjoy your candor, freshness, spunkiness, and you are just plain fun. I pray God’s blessings on you and your lovely family. Signed–a now “uninvisible blog follower!

the whyte house - thanks for the tip on the photos. i’ve been trying to put some together for my son’s birthday party. i already have premium picnik and that site will help out a lot.
lauren–don’t you know that wearing trench coats over prom dresses is all the rage now?? seriously. it was in on E! last night. πŸ™‚ lol.
she looked soooo pretty!

Michele - OMGorgeous! That’s it. Gorgeous.

jeannie - Lauren is absolutely gorgeous. It’s nice to see and read about her on your blog pages. She is stunning! Hope she had fun:)

Sheridan Eketone - Wow.. Lauren is STUNNING! Ok… ABSOLUTELY HATE FOOD Shopping! Something I dread on a regular basis! On the upside… this weekend (in New Zealand) I’m heading to SHOUT conference to see Israel Houghton & New Breed! How could life be bad?? Hope you have a lovely EASTER!!! Thanks for your posts, you are one FABULOUS lady! Sheridan x

Tammy - Lauren looks beautiful, love her dress & hair!
Also love your photo collages & your random posts! Hope you had a great day!

Lia - hii so overall do you like 30 day shred? is it really effective? im trying to decide if i should order it. i have started gaining weight since being married and HATE running and dont really have the money for gym membership – plus i dont think id ever go. would you recommend jillian?

tiffany - the collage was good. the wreath sweet. but your daughter in her prom dress was truly priceless.

Jenna - I’m starting Ripped in 30 today and I’m scared πŸ™ Lauren looks beautiful … I love her purple and her hair!

jennibell - Megan, thought of this when you posted the bit about being grateful for being able to grocery shop. . .just an attitude adjustment. . .this is a really good clip that I think you’d like:

georgia - I wish I had the motivation to do more workouts!!
I need to lose 2 stone in 5 months to fit in my wedding dress, feeling slightly depressed as only lost 7lbs in the past 4 months!!!!!!!! Arghhhh

jennibell - Today. . .played tennis, took the kids out for donuts, hit the library, and an impromptu lunch at Sam’s Club with my husband πŸ™‚ Now. . .schoolwork (for the kids — I finished up my Master’s theses yesterday – ya!), make dinner, get one to soccer practice and fit in Jillian somewhere. I’ll start week 2 today.
Thanks for the info on the college pictures. One of my 2011 goals is to take a “picture of the day”. . .this might be a good way to document them πŸ™‚
For grocery shopping. . .something that has helped me. . .I keep a constant list going on a pad in my kitchen. I have “trained” everyone to write down when they open the last box of cereal, get the last gallon of milk out, etc. and that makes it so much easier for me not to overlook something and have to make a quick trip back. Of course weekly menus cut down on the grocery shopping trips too but I haven’t mastered those yet. Wish I could since our closest grocery is 13 miles away. Hope you get all your stuff done today!

Rach - Oh don’t get me started on my list for today or for the next 2 weeks. I am due to give birth next Friday (c-section), we just moved into our new house last weekend (it’s not a fixer, but it’s not perfect either… lots of projects in the works), we are still 1/2 in boxes and in the process of finishing the 2nd bath, I am the size of a whale at 38 weeks pregnant and trying to run around after a 2 year old and a puppy is exhausting, and I have a laundry list of stuff to get done before my parents get here to help tomorrow night. Phew. At least today I dropped off my laundry to have someone else do it for me (yay for fluff and fold) since our washer and drier are buried by boxes and not hooked up yet. Busy busy busy.
On a lighter side, I am so glad you got to see your daughter before prom. She looks gorgeous! Oh how dresses have changed since the 80’s. πŸ™‚

Nichole - I thought I’d get stuff done this Monday, then it became so windy that everyone is having issues keeping their cars going straight on the road. *sigh* So now that works over, I’m staying in. And probably doing counted cross stitch.
I’m not really sure I could jump up and down on one foot either. Maybe I’ll try later.

Leah - Lauren looks SO pretty! Glad she let you take her photo and share it with us. I LOVE Picnik and that collage feature is my favorite. I hadn’t though of printing them out and hanging them though. I’ve been doing Project 365 (photo a day) on my blog and making a collage at the end of each month. I think I’ll print those out and display them. Thanks for the inspiration.

julia - daannngg! what a babe!

elizabeth pilling - so glad you got to see her off. she’s beautiful. i spent my prom in the er getting 17 stitches in my forehead after i knocked myself out running into a pole that was hiding behind streamers. HA!

Heidi - She looked so pretty! I had to laugh- I have a dress in black that is almost identical to that one and my husband’s favorite suit is exactly like the one her date is wearing. πŸ™‚ Except they look much better than we do. πŸ˜‰

Shaina Brown - starting week one of jillian. all the while my 2.5 yr. old and my 3 yr. old niece tear apart the house. wish me luck!!!

karen - do you have a vegetable garden meg? that could help some trips mayyyybe!?
Best Garden salad:
cut tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, celery stick and leaf, (hot banana pepper if you like it hot), glorious olive oil and salt! the best salad ever!! and fresh crusty italian bread to soak up all the freshly grown juice goodness!!

Ali - I’m starting week 2 tomorrow,,is Ripped in 30 working for you?
I am following the diet too, mostly,, except for dinner,,I eat what I feed my family..just a few more veggies, and smaller portions of everything else,,,except yesterday,,I ate tortilla chips!
I have lost a little weight, and am getting stronger for sure…but I want major results:) Like, swimsuit worthy results!

Danielle Thompson - I too am glad you got to see Lauren! Evidently you saw some of my family too that backyard is my brother’s house. Hopefully their group had a fantastic time!
This Monday I’m working.

Janelle - So I have to admit I was a little sad when my Get Ripped With Jillian finally arrived from Amazon…I figured if I don’t have it, I can’t do it…right??? I ATTEMPTED the first week yesterday…and laid down on the floor about 1/2 way through. I can do it though…I think!
How do you just not cry looking at that pic of Lauren? I know it is happy…growing up…but just looking at her picture (and she’s not even mine!) just truly tugs on my heart strings!

Sara W - This morning I was just wondering if you got to see Lauren-so happy for you. She looks fabulous.
And yes, level three is oh my HARD! I follow the easy girl more times than not.

Lacy Brauner - Today Meg, I clean up after Hurricane payton and Hurricane Jacob..both born durin Hurricanes, Rita and Ike..Not a good combo..if you live in Houston, it has to be a bad omen to have babies during Hurricane season..Also, cleaning up after our baby lab/hearder mix who tears up the backyars. Also, I have to do mass amount of laundry and also, hit the dreaded grocery store. Its not the shopping i hate, its the money i spent and bringing hurricanes with me is never easy.. I wish i was more organized.. but..you make a good point.. waa i have so many clothes( i hate) i have to wash them, (in my house) i have to feed my family waaa waaa i need to be more positve as well.. thanks meg for always being so positvly REAL. as a feshly new single mom, most days are hard, but i look at my hurricanes faces, and it is all worth it..and there are people out there who have it soo much harder then me, i need to stop feeling sorry for myself:]

Jodi @ The Un-Soccermom Blog - I’ve tried and tried to go to scrapbook.com and order pictures… I’ve given up over and over… one day…
You’re daughter is BEAUTIFUL! My baby girl is going to her Jr. Prom on the 30th. sigh…

Katy - Ooookay.. πŸ™‚ Can I just say, Lauren looks GORGEOUS! Thank you for sharing that print site! I have Picnik premium so I am going to whip up some collages and have them printed out. Gotta hit up Wal Mart for some pom pom trim, too. πŸ˜‰
I wonder, do you have Pinterest? I would love to see your pin boards, if so! If not.. Let me send you an invite! πŸ˜€

BriBedell - The grocery store is the devil. Love the pictures, I really wish I had a nice camera. Not that I would have any clue how to use it but I’m just saying it would be nice!!! Lauren looks so cute! My younger sister is her age, so although I don’t parent her I know how stressful they can be/act!!!

Nicole - I think Wildflowers could also be the best album ever! Also, I’m loving those collages & the way you hung them up!

Melissa - Today is day one of spring break for my kiddos. I’m being a bum. We might do a craft. Other than that, it’ll be a lazy day!

Necole - Monday is usually my detox day from working all weekend. I am a nurse, an sometimes the work can take a toll on you like any job. Unfortunately, I have a to do list that consist of driving in traffic. I hate traffic.

AshleyAnn - Lauren looks amazing! She picked the perfect color – just gorgeous on her. I am so glad you got to see her.
Sometimes it is hard not to whine πŸ˜‰

Alicia @ La Famille - monday: change sheets, make a TON of phone calls, a few errands, and finish a few things for a new “line” of fun things for my shop. oh, and school my children πŸ™‚

Katie - I am so glad you got to see her!
Today is cleaning up from celebrating my birthday (a bit early since it is on Good Friday) with both sides of the family! And probably eating really healthy and going to the gym because of all the delicious food. Can’t complain about that I guess!

Wendy - I’m doing taxes today … can u say procrastination?!
U are blessed … Lauren is beautiful!

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - LOVE Lauren’s hair the most but everything about her looked beautiful!
My Monday? Sewing, sewing, sewing. Then violin lessons for the 7 year old(skipping little ones gymnastics class to take big one to her lesson. UGH)
Every time I hear the words Blog Sugar I get all happy inside:) I cannot WAIT!
xo,
Sarah

susan ponder - The Petty song has long been a fave! I’m happy you were able to see your daughter off to prom.

Lisa Currie-Gurney - SO GLAD YOU GOT TO SEE HER!!! SHE IS A BEAUTIFUL “GIRL”, MEG.
THEY DO GROW UP WAY TO FAST!!!
DON’T FORGET TO HAVE A BIT OF TIME FOR YOURSELF TODAY… AND I DON’T MEAN JILLIAN. THAT DOESN’T COUNT. ITS GOOD BUT TAKE MEG TIME. EVEN IF ITS JUST A QUIET MOMENT TO SIT AND BE WITH, Him.
HUGS FROM MY HEART

danielle - bahahha. that’s my evil laugh.
i cannot wait to embrace you…does that creep you out?
a little?
just a little?
i wish i was doing jillian michaels…sort of… i wish i was getting the results and not doing it actually.
lauren is stunning!!

Lauren - I feel the same way about the grocery store, I’m sick of shopping and it is so expensive.
But then I thank God that I have the money to feed my family, to nourish them and watch them grow. I thank God that I haven’t ever had to put them to bed hungry as millions of mothers around the world have to do. So yes, we have to keep it in perspective πŸ™‚

Jen - OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH!! I only got through about 10 minutes of Week 3 today. OY. I’m trying not to get discouraged and go back to week 2 and telling myself that it doesn’t have to be perfect this time around. What are you doing to stay on it??

happygirl - Lauren looks GREAT. LOVE the wreath. HATE grocery shopping. My Monday includes going to work and coming home and making food for everyone and going to bed. I guess you can see why I don’t have pictures on my blog.

Sophie - Wow, Lauren looked gorgeous! What a knock out!
My Monday is very relaxed as I’m on Spring Break right now. My friend’s 18th birthday is tonight though, so I’m going to her party.
Have a happy day! (:

flowerpowermomma - Lauren looks lovely and her date sharp too. I hope they had lots of fun. Most importantly, I’m glad you got to see her AND take a picture. woohoo!!
hmm, today I should get laundry done, some main dishes made ahead and in the freezer for ‘wedding week’, and I want to try out my new electric (yeah) hedge trimmers.
Then finish off the day with a small family birthday party for my adorably cute great nephew who just turned 2.

Alissa - Your daughter looks gorgeous! My son had prom this weekend also…..so hard to see them so grown up!
I am working today and then starting an extreme fitness class tonight….I am very nervous, I’ve been assured I will be unable to move for a few days. Will be drinking lots of water throughout the day to get ready! Enjoy your Monday:)))

Sarah - Love your random colorful posts! Lauren looks amazing! Love the collages….I’ve got to do some!

Georgia - Love the Collages!!! going to do that myself i think!
Lauren looks stunning!! – lovely dress!

Kat - Lauren is an absolute stunner! Glad you got to see her and take a pic.
Love the photo collages, very inspiring. IF I had room to put one up in our tiny house with six people in it!
As for groceries we try to only go once a fortnight. Yes you read that right and then top up weekly for fruit and veg, bread and milk.
My Monday included water aerobics, a hot choc with my two youngest, errands and a quiet afternoon at home procrastinating and feeling rather blah on a dreary, grey autumn day here in Aus.
Kids are now heading to bed, so I am going to do lunch boxes.
Hope yours was productive!
Better go listen to the Tom Petty song now.

Michelle from Australia - Dear Meg. I’m reading and reading and thinking ‘oh how sad we won’t get to see how Lauren looked’ and WOW, there was the picture as I scrolled down. WOW. She looks fabulous. Just like her Mum.
And in my Monday here in Australia was paddling around in the pouring rain trying to get things done before we scoop up our little family and some friends and fly to Fiji for a week over Easter. Only 3-1/2 hours flying time from here. An easy flight for us πŸ™‚ Not like the 14 hours to Los Angeles or 9 hours to Honolulu.
Thank you for your writings. I love them. I love the colour of your life. I love the inspiration. Thank you again.

Hannah - This is a lovely post – your daughter looks stunning! Thanks for sharing about where you got your mosaic prints done – I’d spotted them & wondered about them, so I’m glad others asked the question rather than just wondering! I hadn’t heard this Tom Petty song before – I love it now though. As soon as it finished I had to click replay I liked it that much : )

Gemma @ Musings Of A Gem - Hi Meg!
I have to admit I love the collage pictures too…great way to show lots of memories!
Today I am going to try and create some new designs for cushions…great stuff.
Gemma x

shelley - Your daughter looks amazing !! wowzie !! I would lock her up in her room NOW ! I loved your pompom trim so much and i didnt even get a pillow..boo hoo..so i went out and bought some to hang Jude’s art from in his room !! He loves it. Calls it his “lotsa balls hanger” (hee hee). I detest the grocery store! I think food is the biggest waste of money (although I love it!!)…i mean come on…we buy it..hall it into the house..put it away…have to cook it..then we…well you know what happens to it after it is eaten…money pooped out !! sorry i had to say that. I love the wreath..wish it went with my home decor. I wish i could change all my home decor, but we are broke so i just deal with it. Its not bad….just old.
Happy Monday to you !

Alicia - My Monday has one thing going on – finishing an assignment about teaching the Creative Arts to primary (elementary) school children. We have to write up a unit for each of the art forms- Music, Dance, Drama & Visual Arts. I’m basing my units on the book “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”.
I think you would like it πŸ™‚
I would normally too, but I’ve been working on it alllll weekend, and now I’m up to the part where we have to write a mini-essay justifying the implementation of the creative arts in the classroom. Interesting, yes… but ugh. Theory. Give me the hands-on, instruments being played, paint on your hands, clay under your fingernails, anyday!

Brook - Your daughter looks so pretty! I hate the grocery store too. Do you have an iphone or itouch? I have this amazing app called mealboard and it’s been LIFE CHANGING!! Lame that an app about menus can change my life but it has. You just enter your favorite recipes and it saves them forever and then when you are at the store you can just click a few of the meals and it makes you a little grocery list with the ingredients you need. I still hate the store but the thing I hated more then the store was the deciding what to eat and listmaking. Now I can even click on a few things and email the list to my hubby and he can stop and grab the stuff. If only I could find an app that would just bring bread, diapers and milk to my door!

Valerie @ Chateau a La Mode - Your daughter looks amazing…love her dress. I almost didn’t get to see my son go to his prom last year….long story, but bottom line I totally relate so I’m glad you did get that picture. It’s so important to us mommies!

laurenjean - she looks beautiful !! I can not wait for Blog Sugar !! And I hear you on the hatred of grocery shopping. i HATE IT !!!

the prom

lauren is going to prom today.

and there is a good chance i won't even see her all dolled up….she's going with a group…i don't have all the details.
bleh.

just in case i don't…. i have a couple pictures of her dress and shoes.
it may be the best i get.
i hope not…but i am keeping my expectations low so i don't cry all night about my baby being big & all that stuff.

she's going to look beautiful.

IMG_0476-1

did you go to prom?

i went all four years of high school.

and they were all FUN.

nothing crazy…nothing scandalous….just fun.

my freshman year i went with a foreign exchange student…..fernando.
a whole group of us together…two other foreign exchange students too.
(and kristi kita and lori claassen)  :)
we ate at a restaurant before & they almost didn't let us into prom because we arrived 15 minutes past the time.

but they did.
yay.
i don't have a picture of the group and that is bummer.
but here is me and my friend tonya….from a different banquet that year….in the same dress.

1991

IMG_0635-2
"i like your sleeves….they're real big"

nice braces.

1992
my sophomore year i went with craiggers.
score!
i thought i looked AWESOME.
my dad said "do you have a turle neck to wear with that?"

IMG_0638-4
apparently  i was bow crazy.

love the gloves!   shiny satin always looks good….don't ever doubt that.

i think i cried while getting ready because my curls were getting out of control.
thank goodness i made them fabulous by prom time.

ha.
IMG_0637-3
is that the cutest couple you've ever seen?

the answer is yes.

i had this picture framed in my teenage bedroom for three more years.
IMG_0646-5
that was the last time i wore electric blue heels….hmm i wonder why?….they are so versatile & go with everything!?
but also i haven't worn elbow length gloves with bows since that night either.
maybe i should bring it back.
the world needs more gloved occasions.

1993
my junior year i went with friends because my boyfriend (craig) was gone at college far away.
and since i had been twice already the usual dress was too boring.

and i cut off all my hair.
IMG_0631-1
my shoes were from the theater department.
my dress was my friend roxi's moms….if i remember correctly.
my date was dan….my first friend i had in that town….my 6th grade boyfriend….my friend still to this day.
hi dan.
πŸ™‚

jamie…where was your dress from?  we were groovy.
hi jamie.

brian….nice bow tie.
hi brian.

i don't remember anything else about that night at all….and i don't think i did anything bad that i am trying to block out….but i cannot be sure about that.

1994
and my senior year….craig was in college but closer than the year before….so he was my date.
i am sure he was thrilled about it.
not.

IMG_0655-7

the decorations were crazy.
black plastic?  in front of wood gazebo?  wrapped in tulle?
i wish i could remember the theme!!

IMG_0649-6
sequins!!!
woo hoo.

did you watch parenthood two weeks ago?

was your prom good or bad?

let's hear it…..

Emery Sprau - Oh, you definitely had a great high school promenade experience. Since it is one of the most enjoyable and memorable part of our high school days; this should not be missed. If we could just turn back time…

Kelly - Oh, my, FLASHBACK!! In 1993, at my junior prom, I wore the same black dress that you wore in 1991. πŸ™‚ Only I went to a Christian school that had to approve our dresses before hand, and they made me sew a peice of (black) fabric behind the cutout of mine. Ah, memories!

jennyonthespot - Fun pics! Such a cutie you are!
We didn’t have one – we had “spring banquet”… And I went, but only with guy pals. Not great memories. Not bad. Kinda meh-ish.

Heather - Lauren looked beautiful! I came back to read everyone’s stories and then I wanted to share too. πŸ™‚ I personally loved Homecoming (our fall formal dance) more than prom, because it was more of a fun, carefree dance. Prom was OFFICIAL. People took off school the day before to go lay out (tan), get their mani/pedi done, etc. Prom was only for juniors and seniors (unless you got invited by an upperclassman, and I didn’t), so I only went twice.
Junior year I had no official date- a bunch of girlfriends and I met up for a seafood dinner and then carpooled to the dance (at a fancy country club in a nearby town). I wore a long dark purple dress borrowed from my little sister (previously worn to a Homecoming dance). I rode with my good friend Callie, whose dad let us borrow a mustang convertible to drive to the dance. It was so fun!! Then, when we got to the dance, I got sick (from the mussels at dinner, I later deduced), and I don’t remember much else being fun after that.
Senior prom was MUCH better. I wore a long black dress with sheer side panels and a somewhat open back. (Looking at pictures now, it’s pretty tame by objective standards, but to me it felt very grown up and sophisticated.) My mom even let me get my hair done at a place in town (for the first time ever). I went with a huge co-ed group of friends, and we all met at my house beforehand. Our parents chipped in for a limo because our prom was at Disney World, which was like a hour away, and our parents thought it was safer if we weren’t all driving so far. We ate at one of the Disney hotel restaurants (full of kids, hilariously), and then prom itself was in an enormous ballroom. It was really beautiful! And, because it was my senior year, I cared a lot more about the slideshow, the senior class notables, and the other non-dance things that occurred at prom. It was GREAT. It was beautiful. It was a rite of passage.
Thanks for this post and I love that electric blue dress. πŸ™‚

jeana - I got asked, but never went. The first year, I was asked by a friend, and I had just met my new boyfried (now my hubby) and wanted to hang with him instead. The next year, I was new pregnent and sick…yeah and the next year I was getting married the next week. I didn’t want to go to prom ha. LOVE you pictures, so fun to look at.

Annette - Love the pictures, seeing those pics make me feel like i was not the only one wearing dresses like that! i look back now and think “What was i thinking” but everyone was on the same page then! the white dress in the last picture (in the middle) i had one like that i wore to my Junior prom! my date (now my husband of 15 years) had a matching tux, we thought we were all that!

kristine - O.M.G!!! ha ha
first, i had the SAME blue dress!!! i wore it for 8th grade graduation and dance. my mom sewed spaghetti straps onto it though because i wasn’t allowed to wear strapless. and my hair may have been half up with a white bow clip too…can’t remember but i don’t know why i wouldn’t have!
second, i bet the theme was “secret garden” – wasn’t that everyone’s prom theme one year?!
so funny!
lauren looks gorgeous! glad you got to see her!

Amber - Tina! Come & get your dinner! Eat it! Eat it!
πŸ™‚ been a long time…still cracks me up.
Hope Lauren had a great night!
And, yes. I went to prom. Homeschool style. Oh yeah…don’t laugh. I had an awesome dress…& I went with my highschool sweetheart, who is now my husband of 7 1/2 years:). Good times.

Laura Phelps who should go to bed and not be reading blogs this late at night - HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA
I should not be on the computer this LATE
clearly, that last post was NOT from Jillian
LOL

JILLIAN - my mom made me go to the prom with a friends son who went to an all boys prep school
I knew no one
barely knew him
wore a pink poofy satin dress
he wore RED
so awkward
all of it
drank wine coolers
was miserable
senior year went to the prom with a friend
totally uneventful
remember nothing
funny
the theme was “the best of times”
HAHA
So NOT
my nephew is going to the prom soon
I asked if he would take me as his date
I mean, I am legal
I can totally buy the beer
he said no
oh well
and hey…you and craig??
ugh
I just tear up when I see these pictures
I love you guys

Rachel - That is the sweetest kissing pic EVER!

Janelle - My junior year, I asked a boy to go simply because my mom refused to spend a lot of money on the dress of my dreams because I didn’t have a date/boyfriend. So I actually asked this boy to go so I could get the dress I wanted!
Senior year, I went to prom with a guy friend. Unfortunately, he was in love with my best friend (who was not into him at all) and the last dance, he sat and fumed over her dancing with her date while I sat and twiddled my thumbs. I couldn’t believe I didn’t get to dance the last dance of my senior prom!

leonieke - wow! love the shoes!
and the picture are great.

Alisha Gibb - My junior year was dreamy. I went with my dream date, but my senior year was horrible! I accepted a date that I never shoould have. Bummer night, but you live and learn.
Parenthood two weeks ago? How about the past week’s episode?!?! Holy cow I’m not ready for that phase in parenting. Yikes!
Btw, I’m not sure how to link my last post to your blog but I wrote about the great stuff from The French Bull and HuePhoria. Thanks!

callie grayson - great photos!
Mine was bad that turned into good!
My date was MIA {off doing drugs} and since I wasn’t into that sort of thing, I went to the huge dance next door (prom was in a hotel) There was an AARP convention and they were having a dance…. well, I went next door with an other girl who’s date had disappeared and we swing danced, jitter bugged and had all sorts of dancing fun with the grandpa’s next door! we had a blast!!
so it ended up being a fun night.
xx
callie

No. 17 Cherry Tree Lane - The short blue dress with the white gloves is my personal favorite.

Trina McNeilly - OMG that is the cutest picture evah of you guys!!!!
xoxo

Jen - The first picture of you and Craig could be a picture of Talby and Sean! Tell them (and then listen to them making barfing sounds).

ashley jensen - At my prom (in 98) I went with my boyfriend who i had broken up with once and then got back together with right before prom (i realized i needed a date, i know that was mean but he was kind of a jerk). The group of friends I went with were all seniors who worked at KFC with me. I don’t remember the theme and it was that time of the month for me…boo. We went to a fancy restaurant for dinner, I had some sequins on my dress but just as accents. One of my friends had the exact same dress as me but a different style. She paid 150 at Dillards and I paid 35 at Name Brand Clothing!! Oh and my brother was there too since he was dating one of our fellow swim team members. Then the next morning was his 16th bithday and everyone went back to our house at 2am for cake!

Laura M - Wow!! Sean looks so much like Craig!!! Love all the pics especially of you and Craig! Hope Lauren had a great time! Prom is such a special memory. I loved going!

Lisa - Thanks for these photos…I have some similar puffy-sleeved memories! I went to prom all four years (as sophomores we could go as servers if selected by the junior class). I have such wonderful memories of those times. Spending weeks before decorating with my classmates, going to “after-prom”, then after-after prom where someone’s weary parents would cook us all breakfast, even riding to my senior prom in a horse and buggy! Good times. Hope Lauren has a great night!

Rachel @ Pencil Shavings - This is hee-larious! LOVE IT! Now I feel like I need to go dig up all my awkward prom photos (actually, we didn’t have prom, we had “JSB” – junior/senior banquet — couldn’t have DANCING at a Christian school event! ha!). I was laughing w/ my hubs tonight about prom. We went out w/ our son downtown to go eat, and all the prom kids were out. We ate at this hokey, kinda dirty Mexican restaurant, and there was this poor little prom couple, sitting in their finest duds, and all I could think about was what if you dropped your refried beans all over your sequined prom dress(!). ::sigh:: I’m sure it was a cheap date. Poor girl!

AshleyAnn - Ummm yes, those pictures are awesome. I did not got to prom, but went to “alterna prom” with some friends. Just got dressed up and went to Red Lobster. I wore pleated khaki slacks and a purple button up shirt. My best friend Rachel went too and wore a flowy dress. We are standing next to eachother in all the pictures and very much look like a couple πŸ™‚

Amy - Didn’t go to prom. I was really, really shy in high school and didn’t get asked.

julia - I went to the prom with my best friend. We went to a fancy restaurant and the waiter said “What happened? You couldn’t rustle up some dates?” I’d like to think we didn’t tip him but we probably did.

Sharla - Loved this post. My niece’s prom was tonight and I so wish I could have been back home to see her. And I wore the same rockin bright blue with big bow dress that you had – I’ll have to go back and find my pics. Great minds think alike! πŸ™‚ Loved the pic of you and Craig kissing. . . .

Kimberlee J. - Proof again in that pic with you and the bow (and your beau) that Sean is turning into Craig. πŸ™‚
I also LOVED seeing all these other people that I know so well!

Amy R. - I went to prom once, my senior year. My boyfriend asked me to marry him that night and gave me a ring. The first thing I thought of was, “what in the world am I going to tell my parents?” We told them later the next day and now we have been married for almost 16 years. My daughter better not even think of doing that!
Love your pics!
Amy

Hannah - oh my goodness! you have made me want to get out my prom photos…but i love the fact that you and craig have been together so long…and you are still so in love! that is so awesome….and i hope you get pics of lauren…..because one day she will be sad that you didn’t have any! been there…done that! πŸ™‚ you crack me up every day πŸ™‚

amy jupin - i love that you shared this.
this is what makes your blog so much fun–the personal details.
of course i can totally relate.
dyed shoes. big bows. poofy sleeves. sequins.
my proms were the same years and i can tell you that we were completely in style and smokin hot! πŸ™‚
i sure hope lauren shares prom with you.
i know she’ll be beautiful.
and there will probably be tears either way.

Margo - Thanks for sharing these pics – I love that I recognize some of the faces in them! I never went to any of my proms – I was shy back then – way, way shy – all I did was study – I was a complete nerd! hahaha! I did go to the after prom party my senior year – it was fun.

Dana Banana - Thanks for the heads up with the prom photos! Dying right now!!! What was I thinking letting my mom taking me dress shopping?! Cream? No sequens? Corsage? GAG Thanks for the flashbacks.

Michelle - Your pictures so remind of the movie “13 going on 30” AWESOME- and your curls were totally fabulous.

Staci - Oh your Lauren is going to look so beautiful πŸ™‚ At our school our prom was only for Juniors and Seniors…but I got to go when I was a Sophomore too because my boyfriend was a Senior…good times, big hair….and ohhhhh I soooo wanted a sequin dress, but did not get one ;( booohooo at the time…no big dealio today πŸ™‚ and that picture of you and Craig kissing…I mean, seriously, that picture says destined to be together forever…I love the way your hand is on his face πŸ™‚ soooo sweet πŸ™‚ Can’t wait to hear how prom night was for Lauren πŸ™‚

FREE CASH - my daughter has her prom coming up and i can already see the pound signs rolling in her eyes lol

Wendi - No tattoo pictures? I remember the one of you and Craig kissing for some reason. Thanks for posting! That was fun shopping for sequens and cubic zirconias…and tattoos. Good times.

sarah - i love this trip down memory lane! you were sassy even as a teen…i like that.
and tell lauren we neeeeeeed to see her all fab and dressed up. please.

Rach - I went twice and I think I went in your friend’s 1991 dress. πŸ™‚ I went in ’88 & ’89 so the styles were similar to yours. Big hair and poofy dresses. I remember it being fun the first year and drama driven the second year. Half way through the second one, I wondered why I had gone. Booooo. I wonder if my daughter will go and what proms will be like 15 years from now. πŸ™‚ I hope you get to see her all dolled up… even if it makes you cry.

allison - Went to an all girls Catholic HS…went to the prom (here in the east we call it “the prom”…not “prom”..noticed that on Parenthood too…they called it just “prom”)Anywho, went my Junior year on a blind date…OY! Well it was hard to meet boys when you go to an all girls school…he (I didn’t see it) looked like Frisco from GH…didn’t watch GH, didn’t care about Frisco, but lots of girls at my prom did, so he took lots of pics with them…lol!
Didn’t go to the Senior Prom…again the whole girls school thing is my excuse…my best friends had steadies and the idea of another fix-up..UGH.
It’s cool you have all those memories with your husband:) Wish I knew my husband back then, but he is 4 years older than me, so there probably would have been some laws broken…lol.

jennibell - You and Craig sure grew up a lot in two years! I, too, am lucky enough to have 2 prom pictures with my husband πŸ™‚ We must be about the same age b/c the dress of one of your friends is almost exactly like mine except mine was blue (hers is white). I hope you see Lauren all decked out tonight…and she has good weather and a memorable night. Prom is so special! Thanks for giving me a chance to remember this today.

Jamie Skaates - This is hilarious. I love that you can laugh at yourself and your crazy outfits. I only say crazy because I’m only 20, and didn’t get to grow up wearing clothes like that! I never got to go to prom with my hubby, he was two years older and in the same high school but we never crossed paths till after we had graduated!

Kimberly - My proms were all OK. I always seem to go with guys I was dating but not really “digging”. I went all 4 years too. My Junior year I wore this black dress with a white collar that had a big white bow on the side. I thought my dress was awesome and I KNEW nobody in my class would have a dress like that because it was so different … and nobody did have a dress like that …. except my 4th period English teacher who was chaperoning. Not only a dress LIKE mine but the EXACT same dress as mine. I wanted to crawl under the table with the embossed champagne glass souvenirs and die.

Terrie - Oh Meg, I hope that you get to take some pics of her and her group today…your pics are amazing!! You were rockin’ it at your proms!! Praying she has a wonderful time & that you will get some rest tonight! Can’t wait to see a pic of her all dolled up! Have fun with the prep & primpin’ today!

Ruth H. - I love huge sleeves. The sleeves of my prom dress were as big as my head. I do not lie. I wore gloves to my junior prom, and they were spectacular. I wore them because I was not thrilled about my date, and gloves were my way to not have to touch him, technically. Very mature. But everyone else thought the gloves were fabulous, and I started a trend. After that, it was cool to wear gloves to formals at my high school.

Melissa - Those pictures are all awesome!!!!
I didn’t go to a prom. I went to my Christian school’s jr/sr banquets. I’m sure they weren’t as glamourous as a prom would’ve been….

Shannon Davis - I NEED to see Lauren and her date!! Anyway, I was wondering what dress she ended up with — saw the pics she put on fb about the dream dresses — hope you didn’t spend that much! Hunter goes to prom in May — first one as a senior — Lauren is lucky she got asked as a Sophmore. Morgan’s 8th grade formal is the 29th. She is taking pictures at the chimneys :)Morgan told him he can’t take pictures and he told her that if he can’t take pictures, she can’t go!!

sarah - ohhh prom… always a fun night. I went with a huuuuge group of friends both years and had a blast. Lauren did it right – going with friends is the best way to go!!

Wendy - Missed parenthood episode πŸ™ but hopefully i can catch it on-demand. We only had a senior prom. I went will a boy i had known since kindergarten … known my whole life … mr. party guy. He married some fabulous red-head and has 3 lit’l girls … who r bugging me to make them breakfast :).

Kimberly Dial - Loved the pics & that you have such great memories. Sadly, I never went to prom (sniff, sniff). My parents would only allow me go to one (my Senior year) & my boyfriend (who is now the hubs) had to work :*( Both my sons went to theirs … both were oh so handsome & their dates were beautiful and I loved it! Thanks for sharing your memories! I sure hope you got to see your girl all dressed up! I can only imagine she was lovely!

Nichole - I’m loving your pictures. I loved my dress for prom, but it was the night I found out that my boyfriend of 2 years was having an emotional relationship with someone else and was planning to dump me on my graduation day from high school. Score! Not.
I’m totally loving the sequined dress. If I could find a party to go to, I’d totally want to wear something like that.

danielle - dyiinnnnnng over these pictures. my favorite is the one that was framed for three years. HOT. and how awesome that you went with the love of your life! i wish i could say the same…but my man was in CALI and i was NY. SO, i went to prom in 10th grade with my boy best friend friend who was in 11th. we had fun. i was secretly crushing on him but i wanted to make him happy so i got my hot friend to dance with him. 11th grade— i was so burnt from tanning/burning that my skin was blotchy and red. went with my friend trevor. not really fun at all. i cant believe the dress i wore. 12th grade. went with my friend frank, he was a football star. had a little bit to drink which resulted in a spillage on the front of my dress. and those are my prom stories. wish my man was around to have been my date too.

Heather R. - Went to prom with my hubby, too. Think teal taffeta, butt bow, and velvet top. NICE!!! He wore a tux with matching teal tie.
I know that Lauren will look beautiful. She has a beautiful Mom. πŸ™‚

Tess S - i can’t handle parenthood. these cliffhangers are killing me!!!!
i think you looked pretty rockin in every photo. and also exactly the same as you do now.
hooray for old prom photo’s!

Cory - Words cannot even describe how awesome this post is…LOVE IT!
I did one similar not too long ago….
http://corymargrave.blogspot.com/2011/04/my-memory-monday.html

Amanda - I went to prom my sophomore year with a senior. Long pink dress. Had to use a step stool to get into his jacked up truck. It was fun…. dancing and lots of pictures. Yeah everyone had motel rooms too. {Parenthood the other night was so dead on.} Love all the pics of you and craiggers. I think it’s so cool you’ve been together since high school.

Pamela Gordon - Meg, I think you were (and still are) a beautiful girl! You look adorable in all your prom dresses – very stylish. It’s funny looking back at the styles and we wonder “what was I thinking?” but we were ‘hip’ at the time. I went to 2 proms with the same guy but didn’t actually go to my own final one. I wore a borrowed from my friend long pale pink swiss dot sleeveless to the first one and a long pale yellow to the second. I loved both dresses and had very short hair both times. That was so many moons ago now – late 60’s – when everything was groovy πŸ˜‰ Thanks for sharing your pics and memories.

Jennavan.wordpress.com - Pretty sure I remember all of your prom dresses….Just a jealous 5th grader at the time. Or something.

Kara - hope your lauren has lots of fun! love this post… my husband and I were high school sweethearts and have several prom pictures together too… it’s kind of fun. slash embarrassing. πŸ™‚ I guess part of the fun is thinking “what was I wearing??” when you look at the pictures later… right?!?

Julianne B - My son is going to prom next weekend…on Easter weekend who plans that….ugh. I went to prom my junior year with a bunch of friends (note all girls…except one of them had a boyfriend that went everywhere with us. He picked the restaurant that he said was so good…it was a truck stop….we were all mad then but now it seems funny to me. My boyfriend broke up with me 3 weeks before my senior prom. So I went with a friend’s brother from another town. Only went because I was on prom court and had to go. Ended up being prom queen which my kiddos and anyone that knows me now finds hilarious. Hope Lauren has a blast and thanks for sharing your pics.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - My Sr. Prom dress was almost identical to your blue number, only mine was red and full-length. AND…I wore red pantyhose with it. You heard me. Red.

Cari - Oh my goodness! These pictures are amazing! The one of you and Craig kissing? Adorable!! I went to prom 3 years. Great memories, but, man, was I skinny! At the time I thought I was huge. But to be able to fit in those dresses again… πŸ˜‰ I really hope you see Lauren tonight. It made me sad reading your low expectations. πŸ™ Go ahead and have yourself a good cry at how old your baby is. And then maybe get dressed up and you and craig can reenact prom in your living room. Ha! πŸ™‚

Heather - Yup, I went to Prom. I thought it was lame and didn’t live up to all the hype. Plus, it started POURING RAIN minutes before we pulled up to the event venue. My dyed-to-match shoes did not fair well in the rain! Gah!

Sarah - Love all the pics! It’s so funny how much the dresses have changed! Mine had huge sleeves as well and ruffles and sequins!
My son is going to Prom in 2 weeks, we are going to rent his tux today! Time sure flies! Don’t Blink!

Alise M. - Prom was two weeks ago for me! It was my first prom (mom wouldn’t let me go as a soph or frosh) and I had a blast. I went with one of my really good friends. We went to preschool together two. We took the town trolley with like 14 other kids and had a blast. Then we went to after prom where I won $15 and a $100 Buckle gift card..score!!
Hope Lauren has fun!

Mindy Harris - you and craig are the cutest of all time. i’m a fan of highschool sweethearts though i wouldn’t advocate it now. ha. shawn and i met at the age of 15. we went to a Christian school that didn’t have prom, SO, we went to PROM ALTERNATIVE twice, which was a trip from our small KS town to Wichita to go to a Christian concert/dinner at the Cotillion, Joyland, and ice skating. Til like 1a.m. Then the car ride home where we could hold hands in the van.
I wore a pink feathered boa to one.
I felt like a princess.
I was with the man-boy that I cared about most. Still do.

Tara - I went to prom every single year.
so many great memories…..
so glad you married your high school sweetheart…
and so glad that I did not. πŸ™‚

Lia - I almost started crying when i saw the picture of you and craig at prom. Maybe it is because my (brand new!) husband and i are high school sweet hearts and went to prom together and now we are gonna be married for like a bazillion years and we are gonna look back at the pictures and be like “aw how funny is my dress and aw how cute were we”? AHHH high school sweet hearts and marriage is fun!

Liana - Great post as usual. I hope you get to see Lauren all dolled up…or at least conspire with another mom to get pics!
Totally thought of you when I saw Parenrhood last week, too. How awkward and well acted was the pocket dial? I’ve been waiting for you to mention it since I know you love the show!

Chaos-Jamie - The dress was from Roxi, too, and those slammin’ shoes? EtCetera. You forgot to mention that we went in my beater car. Too much fun. I was just thinking the other day that I wished I had a photo from that prom. I’ll have to get a copy from you one of these days.

Lori - Meg, your pictures are AWESOME! I went to prom junior year with a guy I had a crush on…typical high school, my best friend told his brother to have him ask me! ha. And I wore a long white eyelet dress… Senior year I went with my junior boyfriend and it was so romantic and wild at the same time, and I wore a long shiny pink satin dress that I borrowed. (I hadn’t met my future husband yet until college and he grew up 2 hours away from me).
My daughter did not go to prom at all (jr year just broke up with boyfriend and senior year had just gotten wisdom teeth out and was still puffy). It makes me sad that she didn’t get to go. So when you feel sad that your daughter is getting older, just remember that at least she is going to prom!!

Lisa Currie-Gurney - MEG… THE PHOTO OF YOU KISSING YOUR BF… PRECIOUS.
I WATCHED THAT EPISODE OF PARENTHOOD, (ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHOWS BY THE WAY), YESTERDAY ONLINE, AND LOVED IT AS USUAL. I LEARN SO MUCH FROM THAT SHOW. THE WRITERS ARE RIGHT ON.
ENJOYED THIS TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE WITH YOU.
HOPE YOU GET A MOMENT WITH YOUR DAUGHTER TODAY. πŸ˜‰
HUGS FROM MY HEART

Jessi - Reowr!

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - I think someone should start an entirely new blog dedicated to prom and its fashions! Wouldnt we all get a good laugh? Loved your comments on everything and all I can say to that junior year prom pic(with the heels from the theatre dept) is…WOW:)
Loved the peek into your high school years. Thanks for sharing. Oh and PS..I LOVE how you documented Lauren’s outfit. Hoping you got more of a peek of your girl…for your sake.
xo,
Sarah

happygirl - I went to prom my junior year, but my boyfriend dumped me just before senior prom and I didn’t go. I still hate him for that. lol btw, LOVE Napoleon Dynamite quotes. LOVE!!!

Southern Gal - I only went to one with a date, my future hubby. The last one was my junior year (I graduated early, hence my last) and I went after work in my waitress attire because I had worked too hard on the darn thing not to attend. Future hubby had graduated and was at boot camp that year. Bummer.
Those platform shoes? Wow. Just wow.

Sandy - Forgot to say – I REALLY hope we get to see pictures of Lauren all dolled up. She’s such a beautiful girl naturally and I’m sure she looked amazing!!

Sandy - I went to my jr & sr and to my boyfriend’s jr & sr proms…always with him…my first love (truly). I have to say the picture of you & Craig kissing brought tears to my eyes. It also brought back memories of the pictures I had of Ryan & I in my teenage bedroom. He was a year older than me and when he left for college we broke up. I was devastated for years. We still have lunch once every couple years and e-mail on each other’s birthdays. Loved going back in time with you. Oh, and I had (big!) bows & satin gloves at my wedding (1987…maybe the same year as your prom??).

Shannon - For some reason I just love seeing pictures of you and Craig in the “early years”. I love your love story. Non -traditional and super amazing! What fun memories!

Sophie - I live in England so proms work a little different here. Not every school has one, and when you do, it’s just for a single grade and not the whole school. It’s not usually at the school, it’s somewhere different. And if you do have one, you have one at the equivalent of the end of your sophomore year and/or one at the end of your senior year.
I go to an all girl’s school so at our sophomore year prom, we were just allowed to bring anyone we wanted, as a group of friends and not particular dates. I wouldn’t have been able to get myself a date anyway so that was good for me.
I wore a 50’s style swing dress in purple satin. It was GORGEOUS and I felt like a princess!
It was at a huge events room in a local place. We had a bar and a deck and it was awesome.
The only problem was that some of the boys who people had brought had been drinking before they arrived, and then they ended up getting into a huge fight over a girl.
Bottles and chair were thrown. One girl got hit in the head with a chair and passed out with blood all over her head. The chairs smashed in a solid oak door, which we had to pay for.
Eight police cars, four ambulances and two riot vans later, we were all thrown out at 10:30.
Prom take 2, our senior year, is coming up at the beginning of July. Hopefully this one will go a little better!
I’m going with my friends in a group, pah, who needs boys?
I’m wearing a similar style dress to my last one. It’s pink with darker polka dots on it (the polka dots made me think you’d like it, Meg!)
We’re having it at a castle this time! It’s called Leeds Castle and it’s like… 800 years old.
So I hope we don’t break anything this time around.
I hope Lauren has an AMAZING time! I bet she’ll look stunning!

Ann Marie - I love the pictures of you and Craig! So sweet!!
Like you I went all 4 years of high school. Sophmore year was the best. My brother (and best friend) had just broken up with his girlfriend so I was the fill in date. Best time I ever had!

georgia - Awww love the photos!!
You should frame ur photo of you and craig kissing, its so romantic!!!
Proms are getting more popular here in the UK, mine was nearly 8 years ago in the school hall… I had a lovely purple dress. Where as my sisters is next month, there proms in a posh hotel with a meal, dance etc much better than mine lol

lovethosecupcakes - No proms here in the days when I was at school though they’ve now caught on and both my kids went to theirs but only one each, at age 16, when they left secondary school. How come you got to go to so many? Hope we get to see your gorgeous girlie in her finery.

shelley - awe…i cried when my son first went to prom..picture on side bar of my blog of him in tux. i didn’t get to even meet the girl…barely saw pics..ugh. anyway…i love the dress you wore that you borrowed from roxy’s mom !! kinda hippyish..which is totally me !

LouBoo - Hi – awww this is so sweet – I love the look back in time. I think we are about the same age so the dresses look familiar to me. Gotta love the 80’s! So cool too that you and Craig are childhood sweethearts…love the prom pictures. Here in the UK we didn’t do proms and I was always lobbying the school to do one just like in America!! haha – of course now we have caught on and I see proms happening round town at the end of the school year and still feel a tinge of envy even though my time has well and truly passed for such things!! Lou x

giozi - Well I went to my prom with a friend of my best friend :). I didn’t like him, but he danced like Chayanne. I danced like a spin toy until fell died :D. It was a wonderful night.

se7en - oh how sweet is that!!! You have known your man forever!!! I only met mine when I was twenty six… but I wish I had known him sooner… on second thoughts we would have got married a whole lot sooner and had about twenty kids instead of just a our measly eight!!!

mary - Oh I love the platform sandals the most!
I went to 6 proms in 4 years. Two were great and the others involved awkwardness with boys so they were less awesome.
Does anyone know of girls who would want once used prom dresses from just a couple years ago? I would love for someone to get some use out of them!

emily - oh man … dying over those dresses. I think we went to prom in the same set of years …

Ali Richardson - Those pics are GREAT!!!! Classic!! I went to 3 out of 4 proms (I was too dorky to be asked by an upper classman when I was a Freshmen πŸ™‚

Jenny B. - Fun pictures! My proms were OK. Sophomores weren’t allowed to go unless they were “escorted” by a junior or senior. My sophomore year, I broke up with my senior boyfriend before prom, but I already had the dress… so I begged all my guy friends to take me. One finally agreed, but it wasn’t really worth all the trouble. Junior year was the best. My best friend was a guy who lived an hour away, so we went to both of our proms together. I won $200 in an art contest, and blew it all on a great dress. Good times. Senior year was pretty fun, too. I was dating a sophomore guy at the time, and I remember going out to eat and some adults laughing at us in our matching outfits. We were cute! Anyway… my proms were all pretty tame. No crazy stuff, just dancing and fun.

Julie - this is fantastic!
thanks for sharing!

Keri ~ Forever Folding Laundry - I’m laughing at the electric blue heels…
because I once wore the same ones.
Did you have yours dyed to match your dress like I did?
Remember when that was the thing to do?
So funny.
I’m sure Lauren will be gorg.
Love her dress color.

Heather @ Cookie Mondays - i was just gonna say, was last week’s parenthood KILLING you knowing lauren was on her way? i’m in love with her earrings!

hannah - these photos are rockin’ my socks;) what a treat to have them AND the rad memories.
your daughter will have a blast-and her outfit looks like a beauty.
xo

stephany - I went to prom my senior and junior year, but never made it into the dance. My junior year my on again off again boyfriend and I were fighting and found that more important than attending the dance.
Senior year we were late and only had time for the one in our group who was part of the royalty party to get out of the limo and run into the dance.
What happened on Parenthood did not happen at either one of my Proms even though we got hotel rooms and stayed out all night…it was just a big party!

Rebekah Brummel - I loved prom. . . . so much. . . maybe to much. . . and love Parenthood too. . . who is that DJ in Chicago that puts on a big prom party for adults?

Shaina Brown - 2 proms for me, one dress was full length sequins a la miss america and the other was velvet and taffeta! and to think i thought i looked REALLY good – hahaha!
i did watch Parenthood – my fav show by far. however my proms were not that exciting. same date both years made it home before curfew both years. i can only hope that my little guy is as low key as i was in high school so i won’t have to worry. yeah right!

Lisa - Your commentary on the pictures is hilarious! And your dresses were so different every year. Hope Lauren has fun! I didn’t ever go to my prom. My senior year my boyfriend at the time was a big baseball player and had a state finals the next morning so he was concentrated on that. I still don’t really care that I missed it, funny enough. πŸ™‚

april - um i never went….no one asked me and I was too shy to go by myself…stupid huh? Hahahaha
hey meg….u asked… ;0)

you have to dress for success right?

i am 10 days in with jillian.
i really don't even want to look at her!

"i have weak shoulders and abs!  i get it jillian!  why must you make me feel so bad about it?"

she gets me all ticked off….week 2 blows….and she makes biting sounds.  eewww.
i mute her.
and listen to my itunes.
yesterday my pottery barn jazz cd (circa 2001)came on so i was doing crunches to ella fitzgerald.
it cracked me up.

but i have had several people tell me this week that i look skinny.
i say "it's my hair cut"  and i do think that is truly what it is….but it could be 5% jillian too.

and i ditched the meal plan.

the workout is hard enough for now.

crystal beutler - I fell in love with Adam Braverman when he was on Sports News . . . or whatever that show was called. So cute. πŸ™‚

Amy - I’m in week one of Jillian. I didn’t even ATTEMPT the meal plan. I would starve. haha I feel like doing the workout and modifying what I already eat is good enough.

Heather Crawford - Well, I’m gonna comment but Dude, you are WAY too famous for me…however, I have been watching Parenthood since it started..and I am a Christian parent and I have to say, this last episode moved me…dude, what to say, what to do, etc etc..made me dread the teen years!and I HOPE that pregnancy test is her Mom’s and NOT hers!!!

jennyonthespot - I love you. I just do.

Heather - Oh my gosh!!! Best laugh all day, Laura Phelps!!! I told a friend that I can’t get good form while doing the shred because I’m too focused on watching intently for the moment when Jillians penis falls out the side of her shorts. πŸ˜› She is beautiful but the macho is just so…macho. Blech.

Heather - I CAN’T STAND JILLIAN!!!! I’m sure in person she’s quite lovely, but I have the 3O day Shred and she drives me mad. I hate the macho act. I mute her to….when I do it. I fell off a wagon a while ago and I can’t get back on cause the wagon clear left town. πŸ˜›
Ummm, is that TV in your bathroom? Heaven.

Toni :O) - Parenthood is AWESOME! I’m in love with Joel…he’s SO adorable! I will say what Adam and his wife (her name stupidly escapes me at the moment!) are going through totally scares me! I will HATE having those conversations with my kids but I know they are absolutely necessary in this day and age. Parenting is the toughest job in the world, truly it is! Loved all the colors, your toes are so cute and Waffle is looking much better since his hair is growing back in…good job on the shave down! Oh, yeah, and I really need to get back into exercising but these blogs I keep reading keep pulling me away from that! Bad blogs! LOL!

Sugar Mama - I start week 2 with Jillian today… and I am scared! I’m not doing the meal plan either. Just trying to watch my portions. Biting sounds? That sounds annoying. I don’t like the growling face she makes. Or that she enunciates her “p”‘s so crisp… drives me crazy!
And I couldn’t get up to do the regular push ups in Week One. I kind of felt like a failure. I also couldn’t do all of the lunges with weights. Maybe I should just stick with week 1 for a while longer???

deborah@applesinwonderland - i was at a weight plateau. now i’m gaining again. crappy craptastic. so, i’m willing to go to drastic measures. who does your hair? will your haircut, trim say….20 pounds? that’s what i’m hoping for. i see that adam “commented”–it’s good to have options, that’s all i’m sayin’. πŸ™‚

Lindsay Kellar - Totally LOVE Parenthood! Excited for the finale, but sad the new episodes will be over for a while. Way to go for sticking with Jillian!!

kristin - ha. we did the jillian thing this past winter. i know exactly what you means. and yes. week 2 is bad.

Jen - Oh my GOSH, the second week is KILLING ME. I think I’ll have to do it for two weeks to graduate to week 3. I wish I had a buddy to do it with because I’ve stopped 3/4 of the way through two days in a row. At least I’m trying. RIGHT??!!

Shox r4 - Nobody can go back and start a new begining, but anyone can start now and make a new ending.

leslie @ topofthepage - you will have a very nice and stable life with sweet adam. i have a love/hate pretend relationship with Crosby. He reminds me of my husband in our early years, cute and sorta clueless. They have the same hair too. and omg i’m so laughing at the friend who posted the comments above AS adam and jillian. that cracked me up.

Richelle - Meg – Good job. Keep it up! I too love Adam! I love the whole show and can’t get through one episode without bawling like a baby!! Last night especially!!

Erin Leigh - I wake up on Tuesday mornings and get so excited to see this show. pathetic. keep at it! my jillian is sitting in in the box. she’ll have to wait for post pregnancy body!

Kat - Love Parenthood and I love Adam’s character, because he is just a great character.
That cream looks wicked and makes me laugh, because as always you are keeping it real, so good on you Meg!
Keep up the good work with the exercise and post a before and after pic when you are done.

Nicole - Congrats on your 10th day of the Shred!
I am so not looking forward to reaching that next level. I am so tired of her face and it’s only been 4 days for me.

Julia - My doctor just told me to only work on one change at a time. Give yourself three weeks and then change something else. So don’t sweat the food bit now.
Be careful taking your camera in the bath. Every time I take my camera in the ocean I think “this is an accident waiting to happen.”

casey - this was fun:) I enjoyed your shots of your day!

Stacy - You inspired me to buy the Jillian workout! I am on day 7! Thank you!!! BTW I am not doing the meal plan either. “My plan” is to do the exercises for 30 days then go back and do 30 days again with the Bad A** version and the meal plan!

jeanne - hahaha….I was laughing the whole time. I can just hear you talking. So funny! Jillian is annoying and I mute her too.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - Lu-hu-Huv Honeybomb. Ooops, I meant Honeycomb, but Honeybomb might actually be more appropriate.

Tonya - OMG…I LOVE Parenthood! After last night’s episode, my hubby said he’s never watching again b/c he doesn’t want to think about what may (but prayerfully, may not) be in our future w/our kids.
I’ve kicked Jillian out of my life for this present season! I’ve got too much going on w/school and life and I don’t need her to make me feel gulity when I crumble to the floor in a limp, sweaty mess 1/2 way through one of her workouts! πŸ˜‰
You’ve gotta tell me where your nail polish comes from! My 11-next-Tuesday year old is a nail polish freak and I love finding her new colors w/fun names.

karen - have you tired PX90..or something like that?? It’s crazy!!
So does that Stress Relief stuff really work??

Maureen - Agree with you about Adam, but have to say that lately I am digging Joel, he is so sweet to Julia. And how tragic is it that we all act like they are real people…Laura Phelps who I only know thru her blog made me laugh above at her post!!

ingrid - this post made me smile….
happy wednesday!

meredith - Everyone in my family uses whipped cream in coffee anytime it’s in the fridge… regardless of if there is half and half in there, too! This is why I cannot keep whipped cream in my fridge. πŸ™‚

jeannett - basically, i hate jillian. i realize that’s harsh but her workouts are harsh!!!
i love adam braverman too. maybe we can be sister wives.

Christy - So glad to know others enjoy the Bravermans and Parenthood as much as me!!! I feel like I’m the only one who watches it sometimes.

Nicole M - Hey Meg,
Im doing the 30 day Shred and actually just started it yesterday. It kicked my booty. It was difficult but then again it seems manageable because it is only 20 minutes. Today I am hurting. ouch. Somehow i have to stay motivated…these post baby pounds will not just fall off!

Courtney Walsh - did you see Parenthood last night? I cried and laughed and cried some more. oh my heck. it was so so so good. I am in love with all of them! seriously!
i almost wish i hadn’t deleted it after i watched it. such great writing. πŸ™‚
and whipped cream in your coffee? Heaven.

se7en - Love the toes… and who needs a workout if they can still reach their toes long enough to paint them!!! I go for your morning coffee with cream – wish my hubs would put whipped cream on the shopping list instead of regular!!! Seriously!!!

Kirsten J - I can’t do Jillian – she doesn’t smile, she grimaces. Really. I’m a Kathy Smith girl. And Adam? He’s okay….I like Joel better….and fast forward 30 years and….Mr Incredible does have a great presence. Just sayin’

Terrie - You are letting your Honeycombs get soggy!!!!! Don’t you just LOVE Parenthood?!! One of my favs…I watched it this morning. Wish I could have watched it while in my tub! πŸ™‚
PS My Whatever print is hanging nicely in my new craft room! Thank YOU!!

FeFe - Ugh! Did you cry through Parenthood? I was teary through most of it. I think I’m too attached to the Braverman’s!

Sharri - You crack me up!

Marie - yeah Jillian gets a little creepy with the biting of butts in week 2, I just started week 3 and she’s just a tad better, not much but a tad and oh the workout gets harder yet but it feels so good to start to feel some muscles coming out of hibernation πŸ™‚ Keep in up, you can do it!

Staci - I soooooooooooooooo need to get back to exercising!!! WHY OH WHY do I ever get off that train?? It’s sooooooo hard to get back on πŸ™ UgggghhH!!! You would think I’d learn πŸ™ We just bought a rowing machine…supposed to be awesome…we’ll see πŸ™ I wanna look hot…but don’t wanna workout to get the look…I’m such a loser ;( Jillian would so make me cry πŸ™

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Never watched Parenthood…I think I would find it too sad! I don’t like to cry watching TV. Jillian is still on my radar…I really need to exercise, but I don’t want to.

Megan McGhee - I LOVE parenthood! Such an awesome show.. And so true to real life.. Adam is my fave too πŸ™‚

Kameron - I big puffy heart Parenthood! I am also being tortured by Jillian. She is annoying and always looks mad. I am so sore after every workout. I have lost 3 pounds and am starting to fit back into some of my pre-baby-baby jeans though. πŸ™‚

kathy - Last night’s episode of Parenthood hit me too. But I think I took it too seriously. I dont want my 15 year old daughter having sex and I dont want to feel like I’ve lost me teens. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how the siblings all mesh and that they are honest with Crosby about being a lamo (but that he shows up for school plays and max’s soccer) but Im a little sad that the aprents arent there. I want to be invovled in that when my kids are adults. Is mothering selfless FOREVER??

happygirl - I LOVE your toes. I LOVE your pics, even the pic of the TV. Sorry, so not a Braverman fan. I like my men a little less emotional. I guess ’cause I’m not very emotional. But, LOVE whipped cream on ANYTHING.

JILLIAN - I am sorry I am so annoying Meg.
And that you hate my meal plan.
But whipped cream? really?
Don’t phone this one in, Duerksen…you can do it…
don’t give up
You have to want it BAD
now get off of the computer and start working out
I am waiting for you…

Adam Braverman - I love you, too Meg.
Ditch Craig and marry me.
Will you make me rainbow cake?
Yours forever…
xoxoxox

sarah - I am doing Ripped and boy howdy does she kick my booty. The other day I got tired of her chomping and growling on week 2 that I also turned the sound off… shes a tad obnoxious eh?!

LAURA PHELPS - um…after the whipped cream in coffee picture I think we kinda figured on our own that you ditched the meal plan!
Jillian works. Keep going. She changed my body in 6 weeks.
I now have a penis. Strange.
just kidding.
but she is manly, don’t ya think?
did you cry your eyes out last night with Parenthood?
can I name drop?
I met Monica Potter (Adam’s wife)..she is my friends good friend.
She asked about my cakes after eating a piece of a cake I made.
She loved me.
HA
I am such a name dropping loser….
It’s the LA in me…sorry

www.google.com/accounts/o8/id?id=AItOawkgwaE4QrBwr9C2DjUjOysR_Mvj-NL_T9s - jillian is so not beast. but then, she kinda is.
it’s a love-hate thing, for sure! i could only do the 30 day shred for 20 days… and after a couple of days of week 2, i had to go back to week 1. i say it’s because i didn’t want to drop my newborn with those insanely sore arms she gave me.

jeana - I love Parenthood…but I have to say I’ll leave Adam all for you! πŸ˜‰ But I LOVE everyone in the show. I did 3-4 days of 30 day shred, felt wonderful, got a horrible head cold that I still have, but am jumping back in today. GOOD job!

Stefanie Arnold - I love Parenthood!! Can you get over last night’s episode. I was yelling at the TV (the kids in the tv) the whole time. My husband kept saying “you know those are scripted people, right?”
I get very into my Tv πŸ™‚

Christy - I love, LOVE, LOVE Parenthood! Great TV.
I admire you for lasting so long, I have the 30 day shred & don’t think I made it through the whole DVD. Good for you!

Amanda - Adam Braverman, Don Draper… I hear ya! Love their characters. and who am I kidding I think their both so hot.

Jessica Johnson - i suspect muting jillian is the only way to tolerate jillian. LOVE the toe color. also love your bathroom tile. it reminds me of honeycomb πŸ˜‰

Amanda - lol-i was wondering if honeycombs was on her mealplan πŸ˜‰

Cutzi - Ok… I wanted to post this the first time you wrote about Jillian and wanting to get in shape but I didn’t. I said to myself, “Cutzi, not everyone has to know what you think..” but this has given me so much freedom and I think you will appreciate it so I’m going to share.
Here’s my honest opinion: Ditch Jillian (at least for now) and read this book. Since my husband and I started eating this way almost a year ago it has changed our lives and set me free from the seemingly never-ending cycle of trying to lose weight. Truly, now I can exercise because I enjoy it or because it makes me feel good or because it makes me stronger. I can be lean (lose weight) by changing WHAT I eat. Not how much, not how many calories, not how many points, not how often etc. It’s such a relief. Exercising more will only make you hungrier and make you want to eat more and can cause so much frustration. Seriously, order the book… you’ll be so glad.

amy - Thanks to you I love Adam Braverman too πŸ™‚ Parenthood rocks! I am about to watch the Thanksgiving episode right now while the kids are at school yeah me!

Lynn - I’ve been doing the Shred as well! I’ve always heard good things about it and wanted to try it and when I saw that you were doing it for the month of April I thought I would too! I’ve been doing it with my mom, we started April 4th and do it every weeknight (she wanted to skip the weekends since she’s not used to exercising lol) so we’re on day 8 tonight… we love it!

shelly - Oh my goodness—last night’s parenthood about killed me on so many levels!
Speaking of being killed, ugh jillian–I pretend punch her tv face while doing the boxing routines πŸ˜‰ oh well, whatever it takes to get through!

Necole - I just blew the dust off of my 5 mile walking video. I

Wendy - I am in love with don draper.

1 Funky Woman - I totally do the whip if no cream. Love your toes I need a pedicure! Just joined Weight Watchers so no more cream in my coffee! Such is life! Keep going with Jillian but I too would mute her!
Megan

Penny - Love the coffee with whipped cream shot. I don’t drink coffee but I might start if I had it that way! I absolutely love Parenthood, great show. I can’t say I am attracted to Adam though, he looks just like my cousin. So can’t look at him that way. I always get sad when the show is almost over. Why can’t they just do a two hour every week!

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - That tub looks so wonderful(& I love the tile somethin fierce!)and purple toes? I knew I loved you:)
XO,
Sarah

Kacey - Oh, yes. Adam Braverman. Love, love, LOVE him.
I think it’s awesome that you are keeping up with Jillian! I’m sure you are looking skinny – it is a tough workout! I made it 3 weeks last year and gave up because it was kicking my butt and I seriously noticed no results. I’m a wimp. πŸ™‚

amy - We just bought that “rockstar pink” at Target the other day πŸ™‚

Kim - Rockstar Pink. Totally my kind of color! Looks fab on your toesies!

Anne @ Baking Me - I like the Honeycomb cereal and the tile πŸ™‚

Holly - I wish we had some Honeycomb right about now. Yum!
Isn’t Parenthood the best?!! (I mean the TV show and the real gig.) When Adam picked up Haddie from soccer and finally talked to her I got all choked up.
Jillian’s workouts are good but I can’t take her attitude. Why so angry Jillian?
Way to go though!!

Jenny Lynn - Such a fun post.
And I LOVE Parenthood!
And I have a love-hate relationship with Jillian too πŸ™‚

lauren - Ummm seriously Parenthood is the greatest show on TV!!!

Shannon - The coffee with whip cream looks delicious!

Alisha - LOL! My husband thinks Adam is the “jerkiest” one of the bunch. I LOVE SARAH!!! I love how imperfectly perfect she is as a mother.
I think whipped cream sounds totally legit with coffee. Way to think outside the box!

brooke - You Go Girl!!! Whoa…that was SO 1986! πŸ™‚
So….I love your tile in bathroom…did you remodel it yourself? I love love to see glimpses of your home. I like in College Hill in Wichita and am also a lover of old homes…you give me lots of inspiration πŸ™‚
Also…..i want to see your new haircut!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heidi - I’ve been alternating Jillian with Shaun T. While I love Shaun T., Jillian’s workouts literally leave me on the floor. And they aren’t as long.
Why do we punish ourselves this way? πŸ™‚

tara pollard pakosta - Jillian kicks butt, literally!
I got bored after day 2 of listening to it.
I skipped the cardio parts sometimes because I got winded, but
then I do 45-60 minutes of cardio on my own so I thought that was okay….goodness I quit after day 2! HAAA~!
but I want to maybe try to do it 3-4x per week, not 30 days in a row it’s just too hard. I am way too out of shape!
so glad you are sticking with it! GO MEG!
tara

Leah - There’s nothing better than a little whipped cream with coffee. Makes if feel like you’re at Starbucks but didn’t spend $5 on coffee. And I’m two episodes behind on Parenthood. UGH!

Amy @ dwell in the season - Bahaha! I love that you put whipped cream in your coffee… I would have done the EXACT same thing. Maybe even if I had 1/2 and 1/2. All the better! And I also adore Parenthood, so much so that Adam Braverman was in my dream the other night. Should I say hi for you next time I see him in my dreams?
Love your blog!
-Amy

Juli - Love you, Meg. You are so real. I would’ve given up the meal plan AND the workout by now. You go girl.

Elizabeth - I thought Adam Braverman was especially endearing last night. I watched the episode with my husband and I think he really related to him (and my husband is not at all tightly wound. That would be me).

Holly - ok you are doing way better with Jillian than I am! I just must not be committed enough yet.

georgia - I think exercise is enough to make a dramatic change, did u take measurements and before photos?

Steph at Modern Parents Messy Kids - Hooray – good for your! Can I work out vicariously through you for now?
Uh, and Adam Braverman – really? He’s so tightly wound! I much prefer the sexy carpenter/stay-at-home dad. Yum πŸ™‚

Gemma @ Musings of a gem - Like the sparkly nail polish!
Gemma x

Sharla - Sorry Meg, Adam is all mine πŸ™‚ Good job on the workout plan – I’m sure you DO look skinny!

lost

IMG_0383-2

that tooth that has been hanging on for weeks is finally gone.

my favorite loose tooth story ever.

annie: "MOM MOM MOM!  my tooth came out!  it was all bloody and gross!"

me: "did you just pull it out?"

annie:  "No.  well see….talby was being mean to me in grandpa's car and  i didn't like it so i just got mad.   then i grabbed her arm and i bit her like this ………. and then i yelled OUUUWWWW! and then talby yelled ANNIE YOUR MOUTH IS BLOODY! and then my tooth was just hanging there and i had blood on my hands."

me:  "YOU LOST YOUR TOOTH WHEN YOU BIT TALBY?!!"

annie:  "yeah…."

like it was a normal thing.
normal to bite her sister.
normal way to lose a tooth.

yeah.

oh my.

IMG_0382-1 IMG_0384-3

IMG_0385-4

then she left it there on accident.
thankfully the tooth fairy was able to find her….and remembered.
mr. tooth fairy did actually….mrs. tooth fairy ALWAYS forgets.
like for every kid in this whole family since the very beginning….she stinks at her job….big time.

Kathy Frederickson - I was imaging the way she told you the story. I’m thinking she is very much excited while delivering the news. And thank God, Mr. Tooth Fairy is always there to back up Mrs. Tooth Fairy.

Deanne - I still have the tooth!!! Great picture of Annie.

Wendy - I love Annie’s story. My son’s tooth hung on like that when he was her age and he wouldn’t let anyone touch it. I couldn’t stand it, so while he was sleeping, I used one of his little “Cool Tools” pliers and got it. hee hee!
Wow! Annie looks so old now! πŸ™

Kim Barlow - That is a funny story…my hubby leaves the money too because I stink at it too.

crystal beutler - Yeah, our tooth fairy is a loser. She lost momentum after about the 3rd tooth and never did get her act together.
That story is hilarious.

Toni :O) - Sooo funny! Loved the story! Yeah, in my house, it’s the Mrs. Tooth Fairy that ALWAYS remembers…well, fortunately two nights ago she remembered as she stormed into their bedroom after Mr. Tooth Fairy already went to bed and Mrs. Tooth Fairy startled him awake and whispered quite loudly, “WE CAN’T FORGET THIS TIME LIKE LAST TIME!” Woowhee…crisis averted!

Mrs. - Our tooth fairy stinks too. In fact, she was CAUGHT in the ACT! by a 4th grader! Later she and I went for a walk and I knew it was the beginning of the end…first the tooth fairy, then the Easter bunny and Santa. I cringed when she began the conversation, but she asked “Why do all the other houses have tooth fairies and ours doesn’t?” I laughed that she thought only our house had a defective tooth fairy! I must say, though, I am pretty proud that I have a child who still believed in magic at 10 years old. Rarity these days.

Sheridan Eketone - I love it! Such a great pic!! By the way I have forgotten nearly EVERY time! Have had to come up with creative reasons why the tooth fairy has forgotten πŸ˜‰

Elizabeth - Meg, I thought you might enjoy this video. I LOVE your blog! E
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m72GNRrvc88

adrienne - omygoodness!!!! i laughed out loud at this one!!!

Emily - Awesome story! I’ve been wondering how losing teeth is going to be for my daughter and I’m not looking forward to the blood. Reading other moms’ & kids’ stories has been encouraging. And your story was definitely the funniest one ever! This Mom’s Guide had some helpful information too, if you want to check it out. http://www.1dental.com/moms-guide/

Tracy Fisher - I love that you are helping that little boy find his way to his new family. Wow! Amazing! On a lighter note… don’t you love when the kids come home to tell a story and it involves something they did (ie: fighting and bighting) in front of the grandparents? Can’t they just hold it in … and act perfect… until they get home? My mom is always surprised when my kids fight… like she forgets she had 3 fighting kids of her own. Just made me chuckle.
Tracy Fisher

Juli - When my boy was little, he lost a tooth while at a sleepover at a friend’s house. The mom, Fran, and I talked on the phone and we arranged for her to take the tooth away while the boys slept and tuck some money under my son’s pillow.
The next morning, when he got home, my son excitedly informed me, “Mom! I know who the Tooth Fairy is now! It’s FRAN!!!”

alyssa - we lost a tooth this weekend too…not quite in the same way…!

Shayne - That is the BEST tooth losing story ever!
(And my biggest laugh out loud today. Thanks Annie!)

Molly - such a funny story!!!

angela - Isn’t it normal to lose a tooth while biting your sister???

Karen Gerstenberger - I love those tooth-loosing stories. One time, when Katie was really little, she lost her tooth on the beach. She got David to write a note to the tooth fairy on her behalf, explaining why there was no tooth under her pillow. I still have that note, and the story she dictated about the whole episode – it’s precious!

Christy - That is hilarious! My son lost one of his teeth when he was wrestling w/a friend & bit him on the leg. Another came out when his uncle threw a baseball to him & it hit him in the mouth knocking to tooth out in the grass.

se7en - We haver an appalling tooth mouse that often forgets or just goes to bed for weeks on end without paying his dues!!! It’s like he just doesn’t care – does he?

tara pollard pakosta - I always forget the $ from tooth fairy too…..
you could have always told her she didn’t get any for biting her sister, HAAAAAAAAAAA!
she’s tooooooooo CUTE and funny!!!!
LOVE the story, too FUNNY!
and that baby is adorable, I hope he gets to come home soon!
tara

Danielle - Thank you Meg for posting our story! I too am the WORST tooth fairy ever. I have had to make up so many stories about why the tooth fairy did not come, even hand written notes from the tooth fairy. Ahhh parenthood:)

Jennifer - My kindergartner has the same tooth loose! It just grosses me out! πŸ˜‰

Amy - Don’t feel bad…Mrs. Tooth Fairy sucks at our house, too. So forgetful, I tell ya! LOL Thank goodness for those Mr. Fairies!!

happygirl - Bite me!!! What a good story. yep, a good one. Her kids are going to LOVE it when you tell that story at the Thanksgiving dinner table. Bite me.

Jen Brandt - She is adorable! My 6 1/2 year old daughter FINALLY lost her front big tooth that was hanging on FOREVER. She and Annie look so cute. BTW, when my Katy lost her first tooth, this Tooth Fairy not only made the swap while she was still awake (because I wanted to go to bed!), but then flushed it on the way back to our bedroom. My husband asked how it went. Told him she was still awake and then when he asked to see the tooth and I told him I flushed it, he said, “You made the swap while she was awake AND you flushed her first lost tooth??! Okay, you suck at this.” Guess who does Fairy Duty now? πŸ˜‰

Gemma @ Musings of a gem - Eek! I imagine that hurt both of them quite a bit! Cute pics : )
Gemma x

Sarah @ this farm familys life - Oh that’s funny!

Southern Gal - What a story! Mrs. Tooth Fairy is rotten here, too. Actually my children all would say, “Mama, you forgot to give me my money.” Ha! My oldest lost her second tooth when her cousin kicked the soccer ball and hit her in the mouth. We never found that blasted tooth. We think she swallowed it…

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - Bwahahhahahahhahaha…best story ever! Have you seen the movie Tooth Fairy? Its pretty stupid but my girls loved it. Esp the part when a little boy woke up and freaked out over seeing the fairy.:) Good times. Happy Monday!
XO,
Sarah

Hoosier at Heart - At least the thing came out. My daughters old teeth didn’t fall out, she grew new ones in front of the old ones and had to have them pulled. Gross. I should have had her bite her brother.

Jenny Joy - HI. LAR. I. OUS. Best tooth loss story ever. And that smile! Bright and shiny and gap-alicious!

Steph - Oh man! Mr. Tooth fairy is the man in our house too! I also am terrible at my job as tooth fairy. Oh well, the mr looks better in tights anyway!!!!

Tricia - I remember the excitement (and drama) of losing my teeth as a kid. It was awesome. But now as the mom of an almost six-year-old son, I am a little grossed out by the whole process. I will definitely not be a mom who saves baby teeth (not that there is anything wrong with that.) The only positive thing I can say about my son losing his teeth is that thank God(seriously!) that he gets a second chance to practice good dental hygiene. Have a great week!

Lisa - The tooth fairy always forgets at my house too! πŸ˜‰

Tee Bousquet - omg!! I am sooo glad that my Mrs. Tooth Fairy isn’t the only one to forget! We have my kids convinced that we are the last ones on her route and thankfully it’s usually raining the night it goes under her pillow. Then we get to tell her the fairy’s wings get wet, so she has to walk instead of fly so it takes even LONGER! lmao… ok, I should just set my alarm so I remember before I go to sleep next time πŸ™‚

Kimberlee J. - When I was reading this, I was totally hearing her voice saying it! Hilarious drama over her tooth. Love it.

deborah@applesinwonderland - that’s some bite your girlie has. πŸ™‚ i love the no-front teeth look so much….it’s a throw-back look to their babyhood and the last chance to really see them like that. because the next few years they are just trying to grow into their GIANT teeth.

Heather R. - Love Annie’s new smile. cute story.

Melissa - Best losing tooth story ever!!!!

Cory - I LOVE that story. AWESOME!

Jamie - Our Mrs. Toothfairy isnt so hot at her job either…good thing she is so busy and might not have time to make it to EVERY person that lost a tooth that night. After my daughter lost her last tooth and the TF didnt make it-she said “maybe she is in Germany or something and couldnt make it back here”….Gotta love the innocence of children! πŸ™‚
P.S. I love love love her note she left….kids writing is the BEST!

taniawillis - hahhaha. so cute, that annie! i have a daughter the same age, so your posts on motherhood always make me smile. my girls have tried and tried and tried to catch the toothfairy by the wing with the help of daddy but their efforts are always thwarted for some reason or another. they keep wishing for another chance soon. my youngest, a kindergartener, hasn’t lost her first tooth yet.

Jennifer - I love that story. It is awesome!
The tooth fairy(ies) in this house are pretty lame too. The last time my daughter lost a tooth she said, “Can you just give me my money since you never remember to put it under my pillow?” Um… NOT cool!

Meg's mom - Oh my – only Annie!!!

giant squids

craft thursday!
woo-hoo.

this was a BIG craft…..to go along with the title of the book that was our inspiration.

IMG_0151-1
i love the illustrations in this book I’m the Biggest Thing in the Ocean.

very cute and simple.

annie can read it by herself and SHE suggested we make a giant squid for craft thursday.
it took some thought but we did it.

i thought it would be fun (and artsy) to use painted paper like collage artists often do (eric carle….lois ehlert)
instead of construction paper….but that would work great too!
and you could complete this project in one sitting if you did.
we chose to paint paper one day.
and make the squid another.

IMG_0153-2

they each painted FOUR sheets of white paper the color(s) they wanted their squid to be.

IMG_0154-3

when this painted paper was dry we took TWO of the sheets and made a squid head with the full sheet.
confused?
we made them 3D.
one full sheet was the front and one full sheet was the back.

IMG_0296-6

they drew the pointy elongated shape on one and traced it to the other.
then they glued them together at the side egdes only.
no glue in the middle.
no glue at the bottom.

IMG_0299-7
we use our low temp glue guns because it drys so quick….regular glue will work….just takes longer to dry.

IMG_0306-9

we stuff the head with tissue paper (newspaper would have been perfect but ours was gone in the recycle)
it just needs a few sheets to make it puffy and 3D.

the other TWO sheets of remaining painted paper get cut into 10 strips for the “legs”.
annie used wavy edge scissors and it looked awesome….very realistic detail.

IMG_0302-8

glue them to the inside of the squid head…so that they hang down….like a squid!

IMG_0305-1

we used white egg cartons for the eye balls.
hot glued them low on the head and wide set.

IMG_0310-10
black sharpie for the eye ball.
sean used big black buttons for his eyes.

IMG_0312-11

AND THEN….we cut strips of bubble wrap and glued them to the legs to make the suction cups! Β πŸ™‚

i glued a sheet of tissue paper to the bottom of the inside of the body to hide the legs and stuffing.

soooo cute!

big project but they loved it.
IMG_0325-13

IMG_0332-14
the hair….the snaggley loose tooth that she won’t pull out…..the red sonic slushy upper lip…..oh my.
she is such a six year old.

IMG_0319-12

we love them all.
i hung them with string above our computer area.
they are so silly.

IMG_0343-15

Hugo Arnold - These are super cute and creative! Can I have one of those? =) And that little girl’s wiggly tooth is super adorable! Well, your kids seemed to enjoy getting a little crafty. My two kids love arts and crafting too!

Amanda - Oh my! Those squids are totally adorable!
I run Fun Family Crafts, a site similar in nature to Craftgawker and Spotlight, but different in that it’s a library of craft tutorials geared only at kids. I would love it if you’d stop by and submit this to be featured! (I link to you, I don’t post your tutorial on the site) Feel free to submit as many kid friendly craft tutorials as you like! http://funfamilycrafts.com/

lindsay - i work at a daycare and this months theme is under the sea. we read the book then made these yesterday/today in the infant room. i put the paint on the paper and let them have at it. it was a GIANT mess, but hey, that fits with the book, right? the squids are so super cute. thanks for the idea!

MaryLea @ pink and green mama - OMGosh!! These are freakin’ awesome. I love it when the kiddos get all crafty and make fun stuff. So wish we lived closer so we could hang out for crafty play date goodness. xoxo ML

Jenny B. - Love the video!! I like how you put the text over it telling us about the sandwich making. πŸ™‚ Fun project! I’m thinking about doing “craft Thursdays” this summer… maybe… I don’t know… the mess kinda scares me. We’ll see! πŸ™‚ You inspire me, as always.

danielle - loveeeeeeeeeeeeee these books! we have them πŸ™‚ got them at the annual book sale for like $1 each! love the craft too, looks super fun!

merran tatum - seriously. i adore her. awesome job, annie!

Wendy - My 5 yr. old came running as soon as Annie started reading … and she was fascinated! When Annie finished, she said “Mom – she did a really good job”. Thanks for sharing πŸ™‚

Juli - Licking the finger…that is just too much! Could that kid get any cuter?!

Genephur - LOVE that you, too read Twig with your children……Wonderous book!—and adorable craft idea!

Alice H - That is such a cute idea! I wish I had more time (and money) to do crafts with my kids.
The loose tooth that she won’t pull…my 12 year old just had one of those and when she went to the Dentist, they pulled it. It had been loose for about 2 months. Anyways, she ended up having some gum damage from that loose tooth. Weird, huh!

Stephanie - This is so cute! I am seriously wondering if I can do this with my 20 first graders… big project but they would be so great hanging all over my classroom!! You are so creative~ you should make a craft book:) Love hearing Annie’s sweet voice, she is a great reader!!

Charlene @ Adventures In Mommy Land - That is a super cute craft!! We just made an octopus using bubble wrap for the “legs”. Maybe we’ll try this one sometime this summer. Oh and we LOVE that book too, it’s one of our faves!

Sarah

Beth - Oh my goodness!!! Annie reading that book was toooooooo good. Loved her licking her fingers to turn the page (I’m guessing maybe her mommy does that???). And that snaggle tooth — has it come out yet?? She wiggled it at me when she came to art on Tuesday and I do NOT do well with loose teeth!! When I was secretary Edna and I always said NO NO NO we do NOT do teeth πŸ™‚ That project is also the BOMB. You are the best mom ever.

Heather R. - She did finger lickin’ good. Too cute. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the squids! Great job. πŸ™‚

amy jupin - i love everything about this post.
annie’s voice.

ben is laying on your pillow next to me.
just so you know. πŸ™‚
miss you.
hugs.

Wendy - THose are really cute!!
I have to ask, incase you know – any idea why I’m getting so much traffic from you? I had almost 200 visits that list you as source. But I can’t figure out why?

Angela Atkins - My two year old daughter loves it. So we are going to watch it again. Probably a lot.

Kathryn - 1) A PERFECT snack for this activity would have been the deep fat fried and glazed squid ‘donuts’ from Drubers!

Marla Rae - how fun. i am going to put this book on the list of books i want to get my grandson and then of course make a squid to go with it! WOW MEG YOU ARE A GREAT MOM! the sound on my computer doesn’t work but i will listen to annie at my office tomorrow! way to go you guys!!

se7en - I just love your giant squids – awesome!!!

Callie - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3ylcwm0xR8
i think annie would appreciate this video! my kindergarten students loved it!

Leslie - I love seeing your crafty Thursday goodies – you are so creative. What a cute video – I love how she licked her finger to turn the page – lol!! And she reads so quietly until the attention turns to Waffle and then her big voice comes out – love it!

Penny - Meg,
Your home looks and “sounds” like a wonderful place to be! I love Waffle getting in on the action. And the music in the background. I hope I was as good a mom, mine are 23, 20, 17. It’s funny how I wish I could transport myself back for a day and relive the wonderful times with little ones. Cherish, I know you do!!
Annie,
You did a great job reading that book. You are an awesome reader. I love how you used your imagination for the pages without words. Keep up the good work!
Miss Penny

Happygirl02 - um, how cute is she licking her finger like an old librarian?! Adorable. Thanks for sharing.

Toni :O) - Okay, by far one of my most favorite videos! How adorable is her finger licking and then Waffle (he has HAIR!)coming by and swishing his tail into the book…so hilarious! What a great craft project, you truly are a terrific mother and extremely creative. Such a beautiful family!

Amy L. Weber - YAY ANNIE!!
I’m a 1st grade reading teacher from South Dakota, (can you find it on a map?) and LOVED your reading! You are doing so many things that good readers do: going back and re-reading, checking your pictures, using great expression, and fixing it up when notice something! Wow! Those are great strategies! Way to go!
Amy

kelli - too cute!! i love how annie licks her finger then doesn’t really use that finger to turn the page πŸ™‚

Kimberlee J. - My librarian from school used to lick her finger like that. I remember practicing licking my finger to turn the pages to be just like her. πŸ™‚
Annie rocks at reading.

Jennifer - You Rock!!!
In your spare time (HAHA!!!) would you tell me what your desk is made out of? We’re wanting to pull some kind of desk/workspace area together and I don’t have an extra 3 grand lying around to order the ones from Ballard that I super want and I’d love to figure out some other creative, re-purpose-y way to do it.

Esther Dee - Meg, I totally admire you as a mom so much. I love how you let your children engage in so many art projects regardless of the messes, art is such a great way for children to express themselves. I meet so many mommies and they say to me oh I can’t have them do this or that because of the paint mess. I was just like you when my children were small, now I do it with my grandchildren. Keep it up, honey!!!

Routhie - Love the background music. Gave it a Masterpiece Theatre feel. πŸ™‚

Regina - Very, very, oh-so-very CUTE! Now, I wonder if I can talk my 12 and 16 year-olds into making giant squids with me too?! Wish me luck…

sarah - I love that she licks her finger to turn the page! too cute

Lisa - Good job coming up with a plan for crafting squid! They are so cute. That reminds me of the year I had to figure out how to make a pink seal costume for my three year old. Oh my.
My little girl said as I watched the video “She’s a good reader!”

Juli - Oh, she is so cute! I wish I’d thought to videotape my kids back when they were learning to read. Ah, well….
There’s always videotaping the grandkids. Someday.

Steph at Modern Parents Messy Kids - Those turned out so great!
I also wanted to thank you for featuring my Paint Chip Egg Garland tutorial.
Your site was one of the first blogs I ever followed. Then I had my daughter and lost track of the blogging world for a while. I’m so glad to have found you again – your site is full of lovely inspiration!

amanda - So cute! πŸ™‚

adrienne - yea annie!!! cute cute! love the giant craft

Cindy B - Thanks for sharing. Love the craft and the bonus read by Annie. TOOO Cute!

Jemm - So cute-I hadn’t heard about that book. I miss having younger ones to read picture books to. My baby is turning 10 tomorrow-yikes!

Shayne - The squids are cute, but Annie’s reading was AWESOME!

Meghan - Now those are awesome!

Jes - I sense we will have squid hanging in our home soon too!
What a great story, and I especially liked her own words at the end!

happygirl - So cute. Painted paper. What a GREAT idea.

Tracie - We discovered this book at the last school book sale and we LOVE it. It is great. What a fun craft!

Whitney S - Oh my goodness, I love it! I cannot wait to have children so I can make fun things like this with them! My mom is a teacher so I have always been into fun book crafts- love them!

Nicole Q. - Super cute!

Jen Brandt - Love, love, love it and totally stealing the idea. Thanks!

Christy - Love it!! Love the finger licking AND hearing your voice. Just like the other commenters, not what I was expecting:)

Christy - What a GREAT craft! Love it! My son has this book too & we love it. I think my son & I will have to make one of these too. Great job, love all of the squids!

Lindsay - Finally hearing your voice is wild! Like the previous comments, I had a different voice for you in my head.
She is a doll reading that so confidently.

Jen - lalalalala… Love it my favorite part was the finger lick when she turned the first page… hahaha Hi Waffle…

rachel / cr.e.at.e - annie’s paint job is BEAUTIFUL! LOVE the eyes & bubble wrap accents! cute video – love the commotion in the background. πŸ˜‰ p.s. your voice doesn’t sound like it does when i read your posts. πŸ˜‰ i think because you kind of look like one of my friends, i gave you her voice, too. not the same! you’re less raspy than i imagined! HA HA HA! i’ll have to tweak my meg-reading voice!

sharron - i love how she she licks her finger before turning the pages!!! she is a doll!
love the squids too and that you hung them above the computer area!
happy crafty thursday!

Lisa - Oh my goodness! That video was so great. Love how Annie was licking her finger to turn the pages at the beginning. So cute. And the background noise and the “word commentary” made me laugh!

Lauren - I love that she licks her finger before she turns the pages! How sweet, Miss Annie. You are a pro-reader! Way to go!

Holly - those look like a lot of fun! I have a kindergartener and I love hearing him read!

not so good….yet.

IMG_0225-3

so i tried cutting waffle's hair this weekend.

it's not easy.
i was so worried about cutting him….then after one hour the first day….and 30 minutes the second day
i just went for it.
and this is what we have so far!

IMG_0238-5

HA HA HA.

IMG_0232-4

i am nervous to get to the feet, tail and face.
but it will get done….soon enough.

IMG_0168-1

i had a girl day with just this one yesterday.

we hit old navy…target….and orange leaf.

both our first times.
she said it was the best place in the whole world….wants to go there on her birthday….in 7 months.
it was really goooood.
not on jillian's meal plan….but good.
i restrained myself to only a small bowl.
banana yogurt AND peanut butter yogurt!
holy cows.
mmmmmmm.

IMG_0205-2

annie said during foozball with she and i against craig:

"we're winning!  i think it's cause of my muscles!"
(by the way…we did not win….i am AWFUL at foozball.)

then a few moments later shouted to craig  "GET READY TO EAT MY GUTS!!!"

when she runs hard and then stops she says "OHHH! my heart is beeping so fast."

and my favorite annie-ism….overheard through the window while the kids were jumping on the trampoline….

"SEAN!!! YOU JUST KICKED ME IN THE NUTS!"

she is such a hillarious little girl.

Kelvyn - With the thousands of peolpe Google employs, coupled with the fact that Northern California (where they’re located) has some of the best bud in the states .I’m surprised they didn’t create this themselves!

Christina - The things Annie says make me laugh so. The other day my youngest was using the toilet and when she got off of it she asked me if she would ever have a “something” like Christian (her brother). I could not make out the word she was saying and I finally figured it out. She was saying “thingy” meaning boy part. I laughed so hard (on the inside…I didn’t want to traumatize her). Kids are so very funny and cute and sweet.

Jenna - I “lol”ed quite a lot during this post between Waffle and the nuts: HA!!

Lisa B - My son says his heart is beeping really fast too!! I love it!!

MommaH - Your Talby is becoming a real beauty like her older sister. You and Craig certainly have made gorgeous children!

ronda beeman - First off, your dog is hilarious. Secondly, your last “annie-ism” made me laugh out loud while all my loves are sleeping! So funny!

Tiffany @ The Domestic Fox - OMG…Waffle is such a good sport.
Hint…Kool Lube for your clippers. Friction is one of the top reasons people knick the skin of their dogs in an attempt to clip their dogs. It keeps the clippers cool – it also cleans and lubricates your clippers. In another life, before kids, and pets, and homework, and never ending house duties…I was a dog groomer. The first time is scary – especially when it’s your dog. But Waffle looks like he is being calm for ya – that is always a plus! When you get ready for the feet – use your slicker brush to back brush his fur between the toes to be on the top of his foot. You can cut this with scissors or just trim it when you clip the top of his foot. Sometimes the toes are the trickiest part. It will mean that you will need to watch the hair on the feet – it will grow faster – but you won’t be worried about clipping the skin between his toes.
Good luck on finishing that clip job – you are doing great!
Annie-isms…I love them. She is quite a character!

jeana - our orange leaf just opened. we have had some crazy frozen yogurt movement over the past few months…this is the 3rd one open in our town. can’t wait to try it out though! love the annie-isms!

Wendy - i laughed way over here in australia. too hilario!

meghan - best. hair. cut. ever!
And…i can’t believe all those prints you sent out! Nice work lady.

Quinn - HA. It takes a lot for me to laugh at something written or in pictures… but I laughed out loud for Waffle.
And the kicked in the nuts comment Annie gave… oh boy.

Courtney Walsh - that’s what Adam’s hair looked like the last time I tried to cut it myself.
hahahhahaa. πŸ™‚

Lori - That was one of the best laughs I’ve had all day, especially the kick in the nuts! πŸ™‚

Lizz - So, I just looked back at Waffles first picture and well I definitely see some Chuck Norris in his face and wonderful gruff face! Good luck with the rest!

Liz @ Perfect Chaos - OK, so you know when people type LOL? I’m usually like, really? Did you really laugh out loud? Well, I literally LOL, to the point of tears. Poor Waffle!!! But seriously, thank you sharing! You have made my night.

Patricia - Hope you’re not offended that I laughed at Waffle and my first thought was “poor guy”. He’s still adorable, even with his interesting trim ;o)

Karen Gerstenberger - You had me at the Waffle photos. Best LOL of the day! Thank you, Meg! xoxo

Nancy - waffle, waffle, waffle – that was the best laugh all day. big fat thanks – that laugh was much needed!

Karlye - Meg,
I was so excited to see you mention Orange Leaf. My husband and I opened an Orange Leaf in Lawrence, I’ve been meaning to email you that if you guys are ever up that way taking in a KU game, come by and say hi. Free yogurt in exchange for getting to say I met you in real life! πŸ™‚

Julia - {she says with more than a little jealousy in her voice}. Your photographs have gotten a lot better in the past year.

betsy - Poor, poor Waffle! He looks so embarrassed … but I think he looks super cute. I’m only brave enough to do Minnie’s nails & a trim around her face when her fur gets really long. You are REALLY brave!
Can’t wait to see the next batch of pictures πŸ˜‰

Shannon - I also laughed at Waffle, but he’s so stinking cute! So, about the Annie’s heart beeping…my daughter also said that when she was younger. I was never sure where she got it, but apparently, it’s a pretty normal description!

Ellen J - Okay, so I definitely just laughed at Waffle for a good two minutes. I’ve thought about getting a kit to groom my morkie, but I haven’t been brave enough to even purchase one yet!! Great job with Waffle…love it. hehe

Lucylu ~ - Wow, Waffle, new look! Yum… Orange Leaf. I LOVE that place!

Cindy - This post made me laugh! All of it. The dog. The fact that Jillian got tossed to the wayside for a girly day and the part about the “nuts” Thanks for the smile.

Courtney Henson - Waffle looks really good! We have a Wheaten Terrier and he looks so much like Waffle. I’ve tried grooming him myself and it is really a nightmare! And it took forever! So I’m super impressed that you are doing it yourself and it looks that good! And I love the furry head and feet look…very cute!

leonieke - i’ve cried three times today, so much fun looking at waffle with my kids and husband..thanks, haven’t had such fun in days:-))
please don’t ever try to cut your kids hair.

Barb - Ohmygosh, that’s hilarious. What do the girls think of Waffle’s haircut?
My son always said his heart was beeping, too. Love that.
I am jealous. We had snowflakes this weekend and it looks like you have spring buds on your shrubs.
Did you ever get your new lens? How do you like it?

Mindy Harris - oh, waffle. bless you.

Julie - I would get a guard and then try cutting Waffle’s hair next time. Keep an eye on her skin they can get razor burn and irritation. Sometimes it will show up more a day after.
I found you blog in Sept when I was looking for a rainbow cake and have been stopping by since.

Jill - I’ve heard Wonderful things about Ornage Leaf. *must go there soon!* You are a much braver woman than I am with the dog hair cutting! You’ll get it in no time. You got the creative gene though, I missed that day…Boo!

Pamela Gordon - I am still laughing at poor Waffle! He looks like a french poodle doodle. Thanks for the LOL moment ;-D

Rebecca - Thank you for my laugh-out-loud moment of the day!

steph - holy… i’d be so scared to cut him too!!!
that is kinda freaky!
but he looks like a standard poodle. hilarious.
(oops…i first wrote poople!)
annie is hilarious.
you can tell she’s the youngest of 5 sibs with all she says. πŸ˜‰

Anne @ Baking Me - My dog always looks so silly when I cut his hair. I don’t have clippers so I just use scissors, it gets the job done. If he was aware of just how silly he looked, he’d be really embarrassed πŸ™‚

Clare - Ha ha ha I haven’t stopped laughing at poor old Waffle. I’m not sure I’d be brave enough to do something like that myself lol (“,)

Sarah - I love Annie’s freckles.
What a beautiful girl!
(And good luck with Waffle…too funny.)

Kimberly Dial - Poor ‘Waffle’ … will he ever recoup from the humiliation? Meg, as always, you make me smile & (often times) laugh out loud!

Kimberly Dial - Poor ‘Waffle’ … will he ever recoup from the humiliation? Meg, as always, you make me smile & (often times) laugh out loud!

Jenifer Higgins - Oh, my goodness, that picture of Waffle is so funny, I laughed out loud! There is an alpaca ranch down the street from me, and every summer they shave the whole herd just like you shaved your dog. Hilarious! I laugh when ever I drive by them, and I have to drive by at least twice a day.

Andrea T - i just laughed out loud at the annie-isms! needed that…so cute the things they say πŸ˜‰ we have a fozen yougurt place by us called cups. there was a line with a rope like it was a club on friday night!! . they have red velvet and cheesecake yuuuummy. ps jillian will be kicking my butt for 30 days as of 2morrow!! thanks for the inspiration πŸ˜‰

melissa - two of your commenters made me laugh too!!! “won’t he get cold?” and “you can get a job on a sheep farm”.
you have some very funny followers! send some my way!!!! LOL

melissa - ok. hil.ar.ious!!!
waffle looks so proud of his new haircut.
annie is a hoot!!!!!! i’d love to spend one day with that girl! i bet my sides would hurt by the end of the day!

Kristin@BringingPrettyBack - He got an extreme makeover! He looks so handsome!!! hahah!I was thinking of shaving our dog coco myself… thats it! I am goung for it!
Have a pretty day!
Kristin

Jennie brewer - I’m not sure which is funnier….waffle or Annie’s last comment!

Kristy - I can’t believe you groomed your doodle! You are a brave woman! We have a labradoodle so I know what you mean about paying for the groomer once again. I can’t wait to show my kids Waffle when they get home from school. I know they are going to ask to do the same to Mr. Rudy.
I think Annieisms should be a regular post πŸ™‚ She’s a doll!

amy d - now you know why groomers get the big bucks!
he looks so silly!
did you know we are getting a twisted cow frozen yogurt place?
in the old quiznos…it’s like orange leaf! May 1st is opening day! CAN’T WAIT!!!

catie - HAHAHAHA! waffle’s cut is awesome! you should totally leave it like that, start a new trend! i love this entire post, “you’re gonna eat my guts.”
hahaha! i can’t stop laughing!

Terri Fretwell - I love where Annie says her heart is beeping! My son, who is now 8, used to say “can you hear my heart beeping” when I would hug him or sit next to him. He quit that when he was 6 or 7.

karen - HAHA … love it!

Sandy - Oh how I love the chuckles I get from your posts each day. Talby looks SO grown up! And Annie…gotta love that girl! You’ll always be able to tell she has brothers. I’ve made some comments (not that one, mind you) over the years (even as an adult) that some men have said, “where did you learn that?!” My answer is always, “I grew up with three brothers!” I love your family.

Julie K - Oh my gosh, you had me cracking up from the beginning. Waffle looks like he’s wearing boots and the Annieisms are killer! So funny. Great start to my week – thanks!! πŸ™‚

Headfullofclouds.blogspot.com - Hahaha! Just spat diet coke all over my keyboard at that photo of Waffle! If I tried clipping my Westie I’d have no fingers left by the time I’d finished. πŸ™‚

becky - my almost 3 year old was sitting with me when the first picture of you “shearing” waffle came up and she said, “oh look, a sheep!” thought you’d like that!

Christine - Haha! Good stuff. My Ethan says “My heart is beeping so fast” too! All the time. I love it so much, I never correct him. πŸ™‚

Renae - First, your hair is just so cute!! Second, my 6 year old always tells me his heart is beeping!! πŸ™‚ And he calls his “nuts” his “guts” so I know what he’s talking about but it’s much more censored. These sweet moments in life are such a riot…glad i’m not the only one who cracks up at the goofy things the kiddos say.

Necole - What great annieisms. Personally fav “You kicked me in the nuts”

sam - I think you should keep Waffle’s ‘boots’ they look so cute;-)

Katy - Ohh, I love the Annieisms. πŸ™‚

Michelle - I was thinking, if Meg can do it, I can probably do it… we spend a fortune on getting Monty groomed. He is half Waffle’s size and now I’m thinking, it is money well spent. I can’t do it. HA!

Karen - Ohmygosh!!! I cracked up over Waffle! And I remember the “first time” my little girl got kicked in the, ah-hem, “b*lls”…. hee hee….I have ALL GIRLS – where did THAT come from???!!! It really wasn’t a talk we were ready to have!!! Too funny!!!

ky - Oh you sucker punched me with that last Annieism! I burst out laughing! Too funny!!!

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - Oh my gosh, although we have a beagle I am so not a dog person(I love kitties). But Im feelin for waffle. hurry up and shave his feet please!:)
And I am rolling with laughter over Annie’s sayings. What a funny kid!:)
Have a great Monday!
XO,
Sarah

Toni :O) - OMG…poor Waffle….I couldn’t help but burst out laughing! Another commentator was right…it will grow back, he just may not want to be seen in public during that timeframe! You get an A for effort right?! Your Annie is a doll…love her sayings, just too cute!

Edie Steinmann - My husband shaved our two black dogs down last summer. They looked mangey (sp?) for months with their white skin peeping out from all the gaps in their black fur! We’ll be buying a guard for the clippers if he shaves them again this summer. Annie is so cute! I love the things kids say!

Amy - I tried once to groom our goldendoodle, and it was baaaaad. Poor thing looked so hideous that I would only take him walking after dark as to not scare the neighborhood children. πŸ˜‰

Janie Fox - everything…just everything about this is the greatest. I love your life. Mine rocks too.

Mummy's Dress - Poor waffle πŸ™
You might want to pop over and enter my Easter giveaway πŸ™‚

Jenny Joy - I need to give our Charlie (the dorkiest Dorkie on the planet) a shave down, but I’m too SCARED. Yay for a handsome looking Waffle! You’ve done a great job so far, lady! πŸ™‚
And Annie is the cutest. Seriously. Cutie Patootie with a side of HILARIOUS!

Heather R. - Our girls’ hearts beep, too. sweet. πŸ™‚

Trish - haha… addie says the same thing… my heart is beeping so fast. just the other day she was eating a tootsie pop and when she got to the middle she says, ‘ohh, look mom i made it to the casserole!’ πŸ™‚

Tess - “you just kicked me in the nuts!” i just busted out laughing.
orange leaf is in ohio… just nowhere near cleveland. {sad face}

Gemma - Heehee…cute waffle!
Gemma x

Southern Gal - Waffle looks like he has a French poodle cut! His poor pride. Oh, those Annie-isms! She is hilarious.
I’m getting Jillian’s DVD today. If no one hears from me tomorrow they’ll know what happened…

happygirl - Love your waffle cut. Now you know why those groomers get paid what they do. It’s hard work. And, it’s GREAT you hear your daughter when she speaks. I love the attention you give your children.

lovethosecupcakes - As my mum used to say to me after a, ahem, “unusual” haircut, never mind, it’ll grow.

Annika - He-he! Once you are done with Waffle, you can get a job on any sheep farm you want!

leonieke - o my god, he’s naked!!!!!!!!!!!!

leonie - Meg I am curled over laughing at waffle! not just because thats hilarious but because we have just bought our very own Groodle – Murphy, he is divine…… we are friends on Facebook you can see him there…good luck with the head and feet and please share your tips x

georgia - Ahaaaahahaha poor waffle!!
He looks like a posh poodle!

Valerie - Heeheeheeheehahaha…poor little Waffle…hahahaha

sue - Won’t he get cold?

sarah - oh my goodness…that first photo of waffle LITERALLY made me laugh out loud…so funny. and talby is adorable.

melissa @ the inspired room - Poor Waffle. We got a good chuckle over him though. He is a good sport. πŸ˜‰

Terrie G - Orange Leaf Yogurt is the BEST!! My Hubby wants to open a franchise! πŸ™‚ And you are so brave with the dog haircut!!
