this week

i have been attempting to write this post for over a week but my computer is being dumb.
there seems to be a window right now where it’s working so i write.  🙂

my mind has been consumed with thoughts and planning for Camp CREATE coming up next week.
and shopping for it.
and prepping for it.
all while being a mom and that kind of stuff.
so… here are a bunch of phone pics of things that are going on recently.

best shirt ever    (from hello apparel)

IMG_2876
i finally put up the cow bust that was my grandma’s.
it hung on the side of her sink and she used it as a towel holder for as long as i can remember.
i always loved it.
and i was so happy to have it for my home.

IMG_2973
working from home… a project that will come out in september.
IMG_3119
annie’s first spring break.

IMG_3001IMG_3071
we went to a Rend Collective concert.
have you heard of them?
we listen to them allllllll the time with our kids and some of the songs are sung at our church too.
my Rend Collective pandora station is one of my most favorites.
in this picture… i was watching the lighted beach balls that were bouncing around the crowd and never even saw that they put panda heads on.  HA!
i was looking through the photos and asked “what in the world?” to talby & annie and they said “yeah… they did that for a long time mom”
oh.
i guess i was distracted.
so funny.

IMG_3160
still trying to eat healthy.
a battle i feel i may never win because – cookies.

IMG_3254
spring break dinner out that just happened to be on St. Patricks Day which made for a lively crowd. (aka: drunk)

IMG_3707
saturdays with no sports or major events are my faaaaaaavorite.
and the dogs like it too.
ha!
they get so many more opportunities to make me spill my coffee.
IMG_3716
IMG_3743
my friend Jenny sent me this ADORABLE wood sign for my house!
and i found a spot right away so i could see it everyday!
she has so many cute handmade signs in her shop.
i love every. single. one!
IMG_3766IMG_3807
this was Easter morning.
WHAT?
we haven’t had snow in two years in our area of kansas.
and on Easter sunday annie came in our room and shouted “IT SNOWED A TON!???!” and threw open our curtains.
we were shocked!

IMG_3828
FullSizeRender 5

it was so bizarre to have all that snow!

IMG_3888
this was the most i did for Easter for my kids… everyone got a small chocolate bunny.

IMG_3890
i have been “collecting” random pretty state or flower plates for a few years for maybe someday doing a big mosaic project.
but recently i was thinking of getting new dishes at home but dreading spending money on dishes that would inevidentally end up broken since the kids do all the dishes at our house… pro/con.
i realized i had tons of these dishes… they are fun to look at….they are unique… they cost .50 – $1.00 at our thrift store… i could just use these as our plates instead of buying a new set of fancy dishes.
It’s more my style anyway… eclectically unique/colorful/vintage/modern twist.
so now they are our everyday plates!
and i love them!
IMG_3989IMG_3987
camp prep – making name tags.
making projects.
IMG_4009IMG_4013IMG_3578
planning for camp looks a lot like this.
at several different stores.

IMG_4017IMG_4020
and at camp since we are together for several days we give everyone their own cup.
it helps keep track of which drink is which, cuts down on dishes and it’s cute!
lots of people asked on Instagram where i got them… you can find them RIGHT HERE.

IMG_3657
the same grandma that had the cow in her kitchen also used the phrase “happy plate” when we were good eaters and could have dessert.
and let me tell you… i was a really picky eater and they ate weird stuff.
i challenged the happy plate at every meal.
but i loved her tapioca pudding and usually ate enough to get it.
so i saw this plate in OKC and loved the memories it brought up.
and bought one for me and one my sister too.
FullSizeRender 4
marshalls and tjmaxx are my weakness.
i love finding stuff there!
like this rug… i have even brought it up to the register but haven’t bought it… yet.
it’s just so darn cheery!

IMG_3611
my mom found me this awesome tank on Zulily.
could it be any more perfect for me?!

IMG_4027IMG_4094
all that snow melted immediately… like by 5:00 it was GONE.
and spring is definitely here in kansas.
my chickens are loving the nice weather.
as much as i can assume a chicken loves anything.

IMG_4315IMG_4121
i found some fun stuff while thrifting the other day.
i don’t love green glass but i love when i find something unique and that water jar was just that.
but really i just love thrifting in general.
and the flowers were from Dillons.
because it’s a nice addition to any friday.

IMG_4084
scott went on a college visit last week (HOW?!) and these clouds were on my drive home.
deep blue and moving so fast.
i tried not think of them as some kind of metaphor for this new stage of life with my oldest son….
IMG_4147
we got our baby fix holding craig’s cousin’s baby on friday night.
he was dreamy… never made a peep.

IMG_4145
and my last pic for today… this was the scene i walked into after my house had been cleaned.
it’s all so C L E A N!!!
i smiled for an hour!
i have lots more i want to share but who knows what my computer will do the next week.
and camp starts in three days!
there is laundry to wash, beds to make, art supplies to organize, margaritas to make!
it’s going to be a very good week!

Mindy - Love Rend Collective and can only imagine the energy live and in person! I love Marshall’s and TJ Maax as well – you never know what you might find there. And your tulips – lovely.

Candice - Love your photos! Can you share your source for printing on canvas? Thank you!

beth larson - I loved this post Meg…all the great pictures etc… (my your kiddos seem to be growing in leaps in the last few months). I especially love the last pic of the cute pups in your sparkly clean house! Happy Friday,
beth

Lisa - Oh that picture of you and Annie! Be still my heart!

Jenn - so your rend collective picture…….well first love the panda heads. great…..but second the girl in the picture (her profile) looks like drew berrymore

Lindsey - Love everything about this post!

angela F Conklin - Ok, so i can’t stand it when people say *where did you get that?* and *what color is that?* BUT…………..
Lipstick color in 1st pic please!
AND
tell me about your counter tops. Granite? Marble? Quartz? Color? Make?

Angela conoil@yahoo.com

cornelia krahn - I have 20 of those state plates and I’m moving so I can’t keep them. I’d like to give them to you for all the joy you’ve brought to my life. I live in Wisconsin but will be in Newton this Thursday-Sat. Are you interested?

DLG in Mich - I bought two of those rugs at Marshall’s for the same reason – they make me happy. I got orange and teal and while they make me smile, they don’t wash up so well. The colored ‘ribbons’ come un-tucked from the tan body of the rug, if that makes sense.

Melanie Sidwell - Ooooh you know CU-Boulder is a great college town 🙂 just sayin! Also – I have collected about six of those green glass water jars (found one even with the original yellow lid). I love them and haven’t found any for a few years so I’m quite tickled you found one. I found four at a small town Nebraska thrift store, and two in different stores in Colorado. Coveting yours!

Melissa - “because cookies”… story of my life.

Rebekah Wales - That rainbow hello t-shirt is THE BEST!

Jennifer - Great post! Yes, next week is definitely going to great ;)!

Heather - Love that cow, I have the exact same one hanging beside my sink! Found it at an antique shop for $7 and felt like I won the lottery! Your pictures are always so bright and cheery, love checking in on your blog just to see all of the fun pics. 🙂

Debi meyers - Hey meg.
Pretty lipstick in photo #1!

Since I’m older than you but not as old as your grand mom, as a teen in the 70s in the Midwest I bought a similar white ceramic head to hang my bathroom towel. Not a cow, but another barn animal … Pig? Duck? don’t remember. Has same eyes. I guess they were a thing.

I collect vintage souvenir plates too. Many often have a sticker saying “not food-safe” … And often the original stickers are gone. You don’t want to be eating off a lead-based paint.

Carry on ….

Traci - I love that cute cow! Also, I feel that you are my soul sister in a lot of ways. Lover of color, lots of creative endeavors. I enjoy seeing what you write about here. Carry on and here’s to a happy and creative week!

green chippy paint

i am in chicago at the Storyline Conference!!!
i really enjoyed today.
we heard donald miller (A Million Miles in a Thousand Years – i LOVED that book) & glennon melton (momastery)

i have been thinking all day about my life… my story… what’s next… what do i want…
big stuff right?
stuff i don’t quite have answers for just yet.
and that’s ok… just thinking and processing.

but what blew me away today was hearing Propaganda speak… poetry i guess you’d say?
i think it was the lyrics of his songs but instead of rapping to music he just spoke it into the mic.
OH MY WORD.
his 10 minutes were my favorite.
wow.

bob goff is tomorrow and i CANNOT WAIT!

BLOGstripRNBW1000

IMG_2984
my parents came to watch scott play football last week and on saturday we went out to the barn.
how cute are they?
my dad found records and a machete that he plans to use for gardening.

side note: scott did awesome… he had two touchdowns… they won 59-2.
ouch.
his team is undefeated!
he is having a lot of fun with his team.

the girls and craig came out tot he barn too.
there were bugs flying all over the place.
and i made the mistakes of saying “what are they? earwigs?” to which annie asked “why are they called earwigs? do they go in your ear?”
i said yes.
and she lasted about 5 more minutes like this and then went to the car!
but they were not even earwigs which i said right away.

silly girl.

IMG_2982IMG_2565IMG_2987
oggie was high school basketball coach so he and craig were talking about all the games way back when.
they were so funny… they both remembered SO MANY DETAILS.
boys.
how do they keep the games straight?!!!!

i mean seriously.

this is what we came home with…. GREEN chippy gorgeousness.
it’s going to be a covering the half wall  in the entryway of the kitchen that will have hooks for kids’ backpacks and my purse
i really excited to get this project going!

IMG_3134

Tessa - Can’t wait to see your project with the green boards – I have a similar vision for my foyer. I have a bunch of different colored chippy paint boards … I want to put hooks on them and use them for guests to hang their coats/bags when they come. It is one of those many projects that I have been dreaming about … so maybe you will help me get moving and get it finished!

Lorieloo - goodness I’d like to get lost wandering that barn again….someday. <3

Su - trying not to be jealous that you get to hear Bob Goff speak tomorrow… I loved his book Love Does.. so challenging, so motivating. . .a game changer for me really. . .

I have not read anything by Donald Miller so I will check out that book

I want to run/own a barn. . .

May God reveal to you bits and pieces of what you are to do with your story. . what is next. . I will pray for that after I hit post comment. . really. He is good and has one awesome plan for you.

Shannon Reagan - I’ve heard Bob Goff speak several times. He is great. You’ll laugh histerically and be challenged.

Angela - Best line: “…and a machete he plans to use for gardening.” This made my day. Your dad seems like my kind of guy. 😉

Jo - great post. love the story about your kiddo…too cute!

heather m. - How fun!!! Can’t wait to see your finished project. I’m seeing this Bob Goff name everywhere the past 2 days… Guess I should go find out what he’s all about..>!

Michelle Deckert Richmond - You have such vision and flair for decorating…can’t wait to see the end result. Michelle from Canada Instagram..michellerich31

jen - It was so fun running in to you at the Barn that day. Thanks for putting up with me fan-geeking out a bit.
My friend and I had the suburban packed tight coming back to Colorado. So many great things out there! We seriously considered renting a uhaul to tow home so we could get the bedroom set that’s on the trailer behind Craig and Oggie. And I think Dennis got a big kick out me thinking he was serious when I asked where the bathroom was and he told me it was out back.
It’s such a great place. Thanks for sharing your wonderful find with us. We’ll be back for sure!

Angela - Your parents are adorable!!!

The green bead boards are to die for!! Can’t wait to see the after project. Do you ever worry about lead paint?

Annie favors you so much but i bet you hear that all the time.

i like old stuff.

i had to get out of the house today. so between loads of Craft House laundry i stopped in at some of my favorite antique shops in town. i did a little shopping but mostly just took pictures of things i liked.first10i need to get these letters if i ever sneak over and load up that giant chippy painted marquee sign in the middle of the night.1112this mirror was tempting… i mean i do love flamingos… but i did not bring it home.  😉13this record player may have come home with me if it didn’t have a redonkulous price on it. when you are shopping do you ever announce prices out loud when you are shocked? even if you are alone? or is that just me? i caught myself doing it several times today…. oops. i am a dork.IMG_2238darn.15the sweater picture was the first one i took today. it wasn’t big enough for me or i might have snagged it. it is quirky. you know that would be like $125 at Urban Outfitters right now. but it is HANDMADE at the thrift shop. think how warm & cozy it would be?!  1617IMG_2245the door worked! if i lived alone i would buy these glasses. but if i brought them to my home… they would get broken.   the end.eighthdon’t you wish that our cleaning products still came in cool tins with neat fonts like this Floor Mop wax? and also… when was the last time you thought about the store Mongomery Ward?fifth“Learn One Thing Every Day”fourthremember my huge red & white brand foods sign?  i had never seen anything with that label until today! pretty cool!IMG_2271Dad…. i came so close to buying this for you. it is an ashtray but i thought you could use it for change or something. it just seemed like something you would appreciate. and then i remembered how much stuff you have from both the grandmas… so i left it there.  🙂ninthsecondthis big craftsman toolbox was “mint condish” except for 1974 DENNY scratched in under the handle which i think made it 1000 times cooler than before.seventhcheck out the turquoise, orange and purple table cloth? looks like it should be at Anthropologie!sixthhonestly can’t believe i left the spoon rest?! i will most likely go back for it. it is just so perfectly kansas.thirdi love vintage illustrations…  and chippy turquoise paint.IMG_2294so after all those pretty things… i came home with these. a dot chenille bedspread, some vintage sheets, a few pretty tea towels, a crossed stitched tablecloth, a metal cooler and another globe. (it could be possible that i have enough globes by now but when it is $4??? how can i not add to the collection?!) 14what did you do today? and what are you making for dinner? we are having soft tacos. and i just make a big salad with the toppings and no tortilla.

Leslie - $4 globe?! What a steal! I’ve been looking for one and all the thrift stores around here are selling them for $25 or more. I could get a new one (although not as cool as an old one) for that price. Way to go!

Deb Meyers - ooooo….i need Nevada!

Amber - I have that same flamingo mirror! It was a gift from my husbands grandma. It had been hanging in her house for many years! I haven’t found the perfect place for it, right now it is stored on top of my kitchen cabinets!

Christie - I was one of the lucky girls that stayed at The Craft House last weekend and we ventured out to some of the shops in town…I literally picked up nearly every item you have pictured! And…yes…I also blurt out the exasperated…”$xxx” when I’m shocked at the price.
We had such an awesome time at the house! I was so inspired to hang bunting with abandon!
I hope we get to do it again soon!
Christie Cady

Carrie - Hi Meg. I love looking at these pictures. We have no place around here that has cool old stuff like that. I love your style and colors! But no matter how much I love it and want it, I aways seem to pick beige. Help me! I’m trapped in a beige box! Maybe I’ll start by painting something.

Mindy - Love the bedspread! Thanks for sharing all the fun pictures. I almost feel like I went on the trip – except I didn’t come home with anything. My husband thanks you that I didn’t spend any money : )

Ashley Pera - Every time I read the title to this post I read it in tune with the “Big Butts” song.
“IIIII like Old Stuff and I can not lie, them other brothers can’t deny…”

tonya - you should have bought the red and white can- so cool!
i need a day like that = with no kids and just shopping or looking- super tonight- taco soup and grilled cheese with bacon-

Barbara (WA) - I must tell you about an acquaintance who’s family owned a Red and White grocery. I had never heard of the brand until she told me about it and apparently has a large collection of items carrying that label, like kitchen items, spice containers, advertising signs, etc. Hmmm, I might have to google this history of those stores. . .

Meg - Go back and get that sweater and I’ll buy it from you! 🙂

Sara - Hi Meg! I loved looking at all of your fun finds. We were blessed to be invited over to dinner at my twin sister’s house tonight. The cousins played and it was nice to get out of the house! (We’ve been snowed/iced in for days)

You would be fun to go antiquing with 🙂

Andrea @ This Pug Life - I love those embroidered tea towels so dang hard I can’t even appropriately express it.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - HOW did you not get that tablecloth? Was it $80 dollars???

Ps – Another benefit of driving to SL…

amy jupin - i miss kansas.
i miss the good deals and the cute old junk.
i miss the railroad tracks in the middle of newton.
i miss you.
and i kinda miss sonic’s chili dogs but that’s not related to this comment one bit.

Michelle Whitlow - oh my gosh, that made me laugh when you mentioned announcing prices out loud when you’re shocked!!! haha Yep, done that!!!

ellen patton - antique heaven! i thought i lived in a cool place for antiquing (new england) but i want to visit you!

Amber Campbell Hibbs - HA! It was REDONKULOUS! I saw it while we were shopping during our craft house stay. And no, you are not the only one who may have said the price out loud in shock. 🙂

Gabby - I absolutley love your posts and beautiful photos, Meg! I just had to comment on the box of Shiny Brite ornaments; I had never heard of them, but I recently finished reading a novel in which the main character collected those specific ornaments. Happy Thursday to you!

Gabby - I absolutley love your posts and beautiful photos, Meg! I just had to comment on the box of Shiny Brite ornaments; I recently finished reading a novel in which the main character collected those specific ornaments. Happy Thursday to you!

Erin Erdman - Can you tell me the city/ names of these FANTABULOUS stores??!! I’ve recently relocated from Portland, OR back to Kansas City and I’d love to do a Winter trip out to these stores for some colorful trinket cheer!!!

Linda - such beautiful things! Loved this post! Made me want to go shopping!

Kathi - I LOVE old stuff too. I would love to shop in Kansas, the prices seem so much more resonable than here in Illinois. I’ve been holding myself back from going to my favorite haunts until we move. I keep telling myself that I will be able to get things that will “fit” the new house.

Ashley - Oh what my little (Lexington Livin’) heart would give for that Kentucky plate. Proud to have it end up in Kansas! I wouldn’t be upset if you wanted me to pay you for it 😉

Emily Ruth - So fun! When you take pictures do you ask first or just click away? I’m about half & half & when I’m feeling really chicken I hold my phone inconspicuously (so I think) & sneak a few shots….

Katherine @ Grass Stains - You’re not seriously saying that you didn’t take those chickens home. MEGAN.

Terrie G - I seriously want that mirror…
What did I do today?
The same thing that I’ve been doing and will be doing for a few weeks….
sorting through every nook & cranny of the house…
preparing it to sell.
Sounds like fun right?!
I’d much rather have been out taking pics of cute stuff!
Stuff…that I refuse to bring into my house right now…
I have enough of my own ‘stuff’ to pack up! LOL!!
Thanks for the diversion from my task at hand…
Back to sorting and packing!
🙂

Kyra - I’ve been looking for a reasonably priced globe in decent shape since Craft Weekend last May. Still on the hunt. I have two but I use them for school with the kids. Whenever I see a globe, it reminds me of Stephany and her lights she makes out of them.

Crock pot roast beef, potatos and baby carrots for supper last night. Comfort food for those cold Minnesota days.

Stephanie B - You’ve inspired me to take a day off to go antiquing! I couldn’t be more excited. Tonight’s dinner is meatloaf, mashed potatoes and veggies.

Bethany - Thanks for taking us along. I haven’t found very many antique shops near me, especially not with such cool stuff or reasonable prices. I love the Schmidt’s tin-that’s my maiden name. I am feeling the need to do some antiques “window shopping”. May hit up a local antique market this weekend.

For supper here we had turkey meatball gyros. They’re relatively healthy and the whole family likes them-score!

Jenny - I think of Montgomery Ward often. Their family’s old Summer home on Lac LaBelle in Oconomowoc, WI is on the way to my grandparent’s house. It’s absolutely amazing and was just on the market!

Kat - Looks like a great day.
Sometimes you just have to get out of the house I find.
This year I will have all four at fulltime school for the first time and I am actually not looking forward to coming home to an empty house. I will probably hit the gym most mornings and then come home.
Today I did a boxing class at the gym.So much fun and such good exercise. Then went for a hot chocolate, got my greys covered up and home to do packing for our summer beach holiday. (It’s summer school holidays here in Australia)
We had lamb chops, salad and jacket potatoes for dinner.
Mm, I love taco’s, but must have gucamole’ with them 🙂

Jenny B. - A $4 globe??? They’re often like $40 around here (well, that’s at flea markets. I’ve never ever seen one at a thrift store). Good thing you snagged it! 🙂

Jenny - Kansas has some amazing prices! Every last bit of what you found is awesome! Kansas is officially on my bucket list. 😉

mandy - can I just say how jealous I am of your Kansas thrifting?! you can NOT find a globe in Oregon for less than about $30- seriously. whenever I’v found one for less in the last 6 yrs I’ve bought it. I have 3…I think the least I’ve spent on them was $25!

Julie - You will have to go back and get the ANIE letters – just make a big funkily decorated N to go in the middle of them.
Dinner sounds good – I have chicken out – just have to decide what to do with it, and there will be a salad from my garden too.

Sara @ it's good to be queen - 1974 Denny. Love. It. Kansas thrifting is the best!!

elma - Oh my word you got some awesome finds!! Love the globe to!! I want the red tool box please send it to me!!!
My kids were home again today so we cleaned the storage room and have some stuff for goodwill. I love to organize the storage rooms and it feels so good when it is all done. It was subway tonight:) LOVE subway!!

Beth - Oh, how I want to come thrift in your neck of the woods!! The dot chenelle bedspread is the BEST! We had the exact same dinner tonight and I did the exact same thing w/my portion. I love tacos do much better as a salad! Yum!

Kelly - Awesome finds… I would love to find a doll house like that one… Had that same one growing up….. Glad you had a good day thrifting…

Molly Byrd - I just love you to pieces, Meg! Love all the vintage stuff

Crystal beutler - I did what you did today! Drove out to Ramona to sniff the orange groves, and hunt for treasures. I scored 3 globes, a gum machine, a cool old metal vanity bench, a typewriter, an old window frame, and some old salt shakers. I’m certain that I paid waaaaay more than I would have shopping in Kansas. I need to get back there!

Tanya - I worked from home all day today and accomplished TONS and it was so very satisfying. It was the first day my kids went back to school since the beginning of Christmas break. The silence was golden. I had chicken noodle soup for supper. Yum.
Learn One Thing Everyday book from 1917 ~ my grandma was born in 1917 🙂

marcie - Such a fun photo tour… and you can never have too many globes and I would die if I found one for $4.00 I grab them when I can find them but globes are rare and expensive in Atlanta. i need to come to Kansas!!!

Stacy P. - I moved into my new calendar…complete with all my kids’ activities in different colors. (yeah, that will last till about, ummm, February.)
Then I watched Modern Family. Then my kids and I ate dinner with my mom and dad….she made lasagna. Then I read your blog and started to be jealous that you have such an awesome antique store near you. And I covet the metal cooler. 🙂

Beth in the City - I think of Montgomery Ward pretty often because I live close to this building: http://www.montgomerypark.com/vision.html Today I took my remaining Christmas money to the thrift store – a favorite hobby of mine. I found a great wooden desk chair on wheels that I love, for my daughter’s desk. My son said it is the ugliest chair, looks like it’s from the 60’s. This made me laugh. But she loves it. And it has to sit in MY dining room……

Kris - I would have bought the red letters…mix others in!
Love the peek into Kansas thrifting!

robin allen - You have an amazing ‘eye’ for the really ‘goodmakethatGREAT’ stuff…you should tell us what town these amazing shops are in so the rest of us can go window shopping and declare prices out loud and travel down memory lane and just be inspired….I too LOVE GLORIOUS JUNKE!!!

Jenna - My mom has that flamingo mirror and I used to hate it, but now, I have dibs on it for whenever she decided to part with it! And yes! I always say the ridiculous prices out loud!

P.S. I want all of the pretty little things you listed above! That globe – $4 – woah amazing! 🙂

Kristi REDISKE - That is all so cool, I see several things I would love to have- wish I was there to go get them, may have to make a trip, it is my old hometown and I miss it!

Anne Galindo - That dollhouse is exactly, EXACTLY like the one I had as a kid. I’ve been wanting to find one for when my niece is older.

Rychelle - please, please, PLEASE go back and get those chickens, and then send them to me. PLEASE!

Necole@seriouslysassymama - Today I spent an hour on the treadmill. 30 minutes doing intervals, and 30 minutes walking. It felt glorious. I am doing a 7 day cleanse so keeping it aerobic this week. For dinner is sweet and sour chicken!

Lisa - All the antique/thrift store finds you share makes me want to plan a trip to Kansas just for that! So many fun things! Got to have a brunch date with my man. Always love that! I’m extra tired today. Already looking forward to bedtime and it’s only 3:30pm. 😉

stephany - Looks like a good day.
I did yoga this morning…then came home to do laundry.
I am also designing a website for my dad for his 65th birthday…he just retired and wants to start a guiding (hunting) business, so I am setting up a website/blog for him.
His birthday is on Monday, and I will be in Colorado next weekend to work on getting the content into it with him.
I’m taking the kids out to dinner tonight at our health club and then they are coming to the Art Literacy meeting at school with me because Ryan is out of town.
Fun, fun!

all good stuff.

IMG_1312fabric stacks are everywhere at the Craft House.
big projects are underway.
i am overwhelmed and excited at the same time.
i will tell you about very soon!
IMG_1316this is pretty much the happiest photo i have ever taken.
ha ha ha
i snapped this picture of fabrics at Joann’s… rainbows are everywhere!
IMG_9450IMG_0631yesterday i found this afghan at one of our local antique stores.  🙂
the pink and lime green lured me in!IMG_0633this was the quilt i got at bearly makin’ it a few weeks ago.
it is one quilt square short on one entire side so it’s too small for a twin bed.
but the turquoise?!! oh my word.
IMG_0634i found this one a month or so ago at the thrift shop.
yep… $2.00!
it is a lap blanket… my favorite part is the use of taupe with the black.
rainbowi have been asked a million times to to show the full rainbow afghan that my friend Amy sent me.
it is the coolest blanket!
she found it at a garage sale for $1.00.
ONE DOLLAR!!!
insanity.
can you imagine the time it took someone to make this?! with the little pom poms?
it is beyond awesome.

IMG_0019annie asked me last night at bedtime… all tucked in and sleepy…

“do you think mom that sometime you can call the school and tell them i am sick and then we go to the craft house and make crafts all day?  and i could make you lots of coffee there.”
i said “wow that sounds like a really fun day! i do love when you make me coffee!”
she smiled with her sleepy face and said “i’m really good at making coffee.”

IMG_0397last week talby and i had a girls day after a dentist appointment.
i looked over at her and saw a young LADY instead of my little girl.
she is a breath of fresh air.
always smiling and kind to everyone… a peace keeper.

IMG_0619i made myself a chart.  🙂
1. a good excuse to use markers (NEW markers are the best!!)
2. i am no different than my 9 year old… needing a visible happy chart to keep me going.
3. i am two days in.  i am sore.  i did NOT want to go to bed last night but i did at exactly 11:16.
4. you can still join me even though you may not get 32 in 44 days.  You can make up your own goal for the end of the year and still use the hash tag #32in44 in Instagram so we can be a team together!  even if it’s the only one you do… ANY workout is better than no workout!

Steffi - Your comment is awaiting Moderation – what does this meaning?

Steffi

jodie - i just read Julies comment -mowing lawns??!!!! – you are lucky lucky julie – i want to move to that part of the world!!!!how bout’ shoveling snow meg? counts?
ps – your girls are pretty awesome

Steffi - Dear Meg,

i´m from Germany and i read your blog for two years now and it is an everyday enrichment for me! I love to read about you and your Family!

Since a long time I already search a certain material of amy butler. It is the Number 9 of your pillow cases. The one with flowers in turquoise/pink and the pink/White Chevron on the back.
Can you tell me the Name of the fabric, please!
This would be really nice.

Many greets from Germany
Steffi

Tanya - I love Annie.

meg duerksen - it is three different sets of key hooks from target that are screwed into the wall next to each other. 🙂

diane - Hi…Love your blog. On the picture above with Annie, there’s jewelry hanging up….what is it hanging on? I’ve made something simular but can’t find a sturdy enough backing for my corkboard. Any recommendations?

Tracey - The turq quilt might be too small for a bed but that makes it perfect for your sofa! And a nap!!!I have a stack of quilts, on an old school desk, in our family room for sofa naps—love them!!! I’ve done my 3 workouts this week. I prefer 1st thing in the morning (before I get sidetracked) but I persevered and got in done at 2:00, finished just in time to go and pick up kids from schools.

Amy K. - NOOOOO!!!! It looks like I am too late for that awesome U.P. map. One of my people would have LOVED it as her Christmas gift. =(

Julie - What a wonderful colourful post. I would love to visit your antique stores for the fabulous finds you get. Does mowing the lawns count as a workout – if so I have done 2/44 this week.

mary - Hi Meg! I am trying to order some of those gorgeous shams but my shopping cart keeps emptying!!! Please help! thanks!!!

Kimberlee Jost - Such good stuff.
🙂

Linda - Always love your posts! Thanks you for the rainbows!!

Heidi Jo the Artist - Oh my, Annie… That quote almost breaks my heart, and brings tears to my eyes, because I’m afraid you said no. Take that day with Annie; you won’t regret it one bit! And the things she can learn from you, her mother=priceless. And the things you can learn from her too=priceless. My nephew died suddenly years ago, and that changed me forever. Our days ARE numbered. I wish that everyone could have the best relationship with their child/children. I believe school gets in the way of that. Family isn’t put first, unfortunately. People (especially the gov’t) think learning is more important than relationships, and that learning won’t happen as well, at home. Parents don’t trust themselves, because they were taught to not trust themselves growing up. In fact, I believe, learning happens even better when it is from someone we love, trust, and look up to. You know I could go on and on, and this is just my two cents, as you know! Anyhow, I finally ordered something sewn from your shop today! Truth be told, I was a little bit disappointed that I didn’t get one of those cool rainbow sweatshirts for my daughter awhile back (we are rainbow fans here too!) they sold out fast, and I was online right when your shop opened!?! Oh heck, I wish they had come in my size!! But I’m sure my daughter will love a squirrel pillow case, just as much! We have a few “pet” squirrels in our backyard that she has named. 😉 And $1 for that rainbow blanket, that is cRaZY good!

Amy - Megan, it makes my heart so happy to know that you love your rainbow blanket. As soon as I saw it, I thought of you. And that’s a very good thing, thoughts of you.

Kari - I LOVE all of the color!! Where did you get the colorful Ikat fabric from?!? 🙂

this was my favorite find today.
a big galvanized ALL bucket.
i have never seen one of these before.
it was so ME.
no clue what i will do with it yet….but it was one of things you just HAVE to bring home.

also got a table for $7 that will soon be turquoise.
and a big gold mirror for $15 that will soon be yellow.

somedays you find nothing.
somedays you have to stop yourself because there is SO much great stuff there.
this was one of those days.

i love those days.

April R - Was offline a few days and so I came on over this afternoon to see what’s been up – wow!
A treasure load (fun! <3 those blue cats!),
new shoes (<3 the red and the glitter!),
and y'all are ok! (ThankfulThankfulThankful)

Amy G. - Great stuff!!! I have two of those All buckets but totally want/need more. I LOVE them!!!

Tami C. - Oh my goodness, I was born in 1970, so fun to see that tea towel! Fun fun. Praying you are well, such a sad and crazy storm.

Jayme McClure - Such wonderful finds! I can’t wait to see what you have planned for the hankies. I have a collection as well. Part of them were used as decor for my wedding and some were incorporated into my wedding quilt. I would love to see more ideas!

Angie - Waiting for a word that you’re all ok…

beki - Good gried, lady – SCORE!!

Lori Austin - Sure hope we see an update from you today. Thinking of you, your family and friends in Kansas. Hoping you haven’t been touched by the storms.

Beth - We spend last night in my Aunt’s basement (none of our own) and I hardly slept keeping track of the weather… got back online today and thinking about the safety of some of my favorite bloggers in Kansas…
I hope you and your family are all safe and sound!

Anne McD - My parents had those calendar tea towels when I was little- thanks for bringing up that memory! 🙂

Krissy - I love the quit!! So pretty! And the bucket is freaking awesome too. Idk if it would work, but i think i would plant some flowers in it. 🙂

jackie - Definitely great stuff!

Linnea - Hooray for thrifting! that’s one of my favorite things, too. I LOVE that quilted baby blanket and the birdie-embroidered doily. Too cute! Great finds!

sara @ it's good to be queen - this is all kinds of happy.

Sandy - Nice finds! May I please buy the 1966 calendar from you? I remember my grandma having calendars like that and 1966 is the year I was born. 🙂

Tonya S. - I am praying you and your family are safe and sound this evening.

Anna Marie - I just saw that another blogger who lives in Wichita is taking cover in her basement. I am praying and hoping that you guys are safe and okay tonight. The storms are heading our way in MO in the next couple of hours. Highly doubt I sleep tonight. Too worried about my babies.

JustMommer - You did score, I did too, I bought a 70’s black payphone, a nice wire baker’s rack and a vintage kindergarten Sunday school lesson about friendship and the coolest green birdhouse.

Lisa - Sooo envious! I love that yellow and white chenille, and I, too, like vintage handkerchiefs. I have a few of my grandmother’s, and I just really like the designs. And I’m always buying hand-embroidered linens, just because they are so beautiful – truly art! Congrats on your winning day!!

melissa lorenz - I also am hoping too, like the previous commenter, that you guys are okay with all the storms going on in your area! Stay safe!

Susan - Praying God’s protection for your family.

Julie - I can’t wait to see how these items look in your new home! More indoor photos, please!

arlene - cool stuff!! how about using the ALL bucket for your homemade laundry detergent?

katie - that bucket is RAD!

A Facebook User - Meg, I always love your blog. As I’m expecting twins in 10 weeks, I was on Etsy and saw this and immediately thought of you. Check it out!
http://www.etsy.com/listing/95235296/newborn-boys-crochet-newsboy-baby-hat?ref=sr_gallery_20&ga_search_query=newborn+boy&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_page=5&ga_search_type=handmade
It combines one of your newest finds and your love of photography!
-Lindley

Kristin S - Your posts like this make me want to move to Kansas.
My only Kansas experiences are driving across I-70 for an eternity. Used to be boring and now I just count all the wind turbines.

happygirl - I’m so glad you find these things and LOVE them. I would never see what you see when you look at them. Can’t wait to see the hankie craft. 🙂

robin allen - I too…think we are twins…born a few years apart….I am
THAT lady that buys the boxes of linens, and doilys and I own about 100 hankies, I went to Ireland a few years ago and a friend gave me an Ireland tea towel..I have 3 stacks of various vintage towels and nearly 20 vintage tableclothes…I used them at our church soup supper to decorate…….I have nearly 20 of the swaggers juice glasses…too stinking cute…I have SOLD one of those ALL tins…(FAINT) a few years ago in our garage sale….I was born in 1960 so I am REALLY old compared to you gals….as for your wardrobe and decorating style…they will continue to change as your life evolves…embrace each season with gusto…they blink by….with your awesome photographs you will always have a smile on your face when you look at the photos with your kids and grandkids…( TRUST ME ON THIS ONE!!!)
My mom ( rest her soul in heaven – for 10 yrs) did ALL of this type of stuff my entire life….we were VERY financially challenged….but I was an adult before I even ‘KNEW” that….we (she) always had projects and was NOT afraid to try something just because she did NOT know how to do it…I would not trade any of my experiences for the world…I just think outside ofthe boxes that my friends do…KEEP right on inspiring all of us to dream in color….I do…Auction today…Vintage cloth napkins being used at our mother daughter tea next weekend….clothes to hang out…silver toenails to paint…a pickup load of treasures from last week end, flowers to plant in the schooldesk I ;planted’ in the flower bed…

megan@contentedsparrow - oh, and i was going to tell you that we’re twins again….i collect kitschy calendar towels to make things with. now those are easier to find because not as many people have the vision to turn them into something cute.
ok.
that’s it.
over and out.

megan@contentedsparrow - what in the world????! does NO ONE go to that thrift store? i can’t fathom why those items will ALL still magically be on the shelves waiting just for you to rescue them. i call it a good thrifting day is i find ONE good thing. we have a million stores around here and also a million people looking for the same things that i am.
good on ‘ya!!
xo

Rachel K - Wow!! Great loot! I LOVE that calendar with the cats! Such great colors in your finds!

valerie - k. I have been thinking about you…Have you been to Good Ju Ju? It’s in the Warehouse District of Kansas City and it’s the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of every month. I think of you every time I go. If you have not been – you should. I think you would love it! 😉

Jenna@CallHerHappy - I’m excited to see what you do with the hankies! I always keep a vintage one in my purse so I can wipe my nose like a lady 🙂
Also, I went thrifting today and found this awesome coat, but the zipper was stuck. So, they gave it to me for FREE! Now I just have to get that pesky zipper unstuck…

Becki - Yes, you really did score!

emily anderson - i’ll take all of that please, thankyouverymuch 🙂

Kimberly Dial - Love all your lute!

Kimberlee Jost - The chenille blanket…in yellow. Perf.
All this loot and I wasn’t with you.
Boo.

Janet Dreher - Meg, I used to give my grandparents a cloth calendar just like the ones shown above each year at Christmas while I was growing up, probably from the years 1960-1972. They were short on space, so they gave all of them back to me. I took them and sewed them together and made a tablecloth. I used it for special occasions so it wouldn’t wear out. It brought back such special memories.

Toni :O) - I was born in 1970!!! Yep, I’m THAT old!! So cool to see my birthday on your calendar…woot woot and it was on a Friday the 13th!!! Lucky day!

Kathleen - The ALL bucket has been on my list for quite a while….hoping to find one at the Antiques Extravaganza next month!
Awesome finds…good way to end the week!

christy - What a fantastic haul! Love, love, love the All bucket! I actually have those same juice glasses, scored ’em at GW a few years ago.

Christy - whoa awesome finds!!

Holly - very cool! My husband and I went to a town close by and found some really cool stuff as well!

Kelly - Fun finds! I went to the Country Living Fair in Ohio a couple years ago and the Farm Chicks Show in Washington last year (and am going again this year – yay!) and those galvanized ALL buckets were hot commodities at both shows!

gina f. - Score!!! i think my mom had some of those daisy glasses when i was a kid. love the strawberry calendar… you are a lucky girl!!

tiffany gardner - awesome! Love it all!!!!

Chas - Score is right! Great items! I can’t wait to do some thrifting soon. Yard sale season is starting up and I can’t wait to do that also!

Alisa - LOVE the ten dollar quilt…love.

Lindsey - SCORE! Wow! I love the All bucket! The embroidery stuff is way fun too- especially the dog. Neat-o!!!!!

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Love your happy finds, especially the Daisy glasses, way cute!

beth - Oh cool, love all your finds! I found one of those cloth claendars for the year my oldest daughter was born but I havent found any for the next two, 92 & 04. Guess people don’t love vintage like me.
Also I got a daisy galss by libby. My grandmother used to have those and when I went hunting on ebay and etsy for them I grab them up and get them. I have only found three but I still hunt. I paid 7 bucks for one and that is high but it does make me think of my childhood memories that mean a lot to me.
Great find….do share how you paint furniture cause I have a couple things to paint also that I would love to change up a bit.

Sarah{Handbags*N*Pigtails} - Fun finds! I scored big today too. Our next door neighbors both just passed away 6 months from one another(husband and wife). Their daughter had the first of probably a few garage sales today.I got a HUGE galvanized fruit bucket for $15(long, rectangular, reminds me of a feeding trough actually), old juice glasses from States we have visited on family trips($1/4), a big rectangular mirror for our powder room redo($3), an vintage aluminum cake stand top on glass base($3), an old blue canning jar($1..she had a TON), a pink vintage tablecloth($2), and a super old Saltine cracker tin in brand new condition($2).
Its fun mixing old and new in our homes, isn’t it?

Pink and Green Mama MaryLea - so awesome! my goodwill/thrift shop has crummy stereos, chipped dishes from walmart, and gross shoes. yours is SO much better. the only place around here you can find stuff like the goodies you scored today is at our antique shops and then they’re marked up on prices…so i need a plane ticket to come see you and two empty suitcases to bring home my treasures (i’d just stay in my yoga pants all week — just like home!) : )
have a great weekend and enjoy your new goodies!
xoxo

Debra Arevalo - Great finds are you using these in the craft house or the farm house :]hope to see pictures of your decor of your farm house. Thanks for sharing !

maggie - my friend who is a photographer just posted a picture of a newborn in the all bucket, super cute! You manage to find great deals

Seriously Sassy Mama - I hope to find some great stuff to decorate our new house with. I have so many ideas. My mom was laughing at all the planning/decorating I have done.

Melanie - Oh! I was born in 1970 (yes, I am old). I always thought i was born on a Monday, but if your towel is correct, I was born on a Wednesday. I’m going to have to have a chat with my mom! Love the stuff you find!!

erin - LOVE all the great finds!! especially the bird dog….we have two of those here. how to you clean up your thift store cloth finds? i’m always scared that they’ll fall apart.

Sara Torbett - What great finds! I think some of the dish towels and pretty embroidery would be so neat framed. Can’t wait to see what you do with all of it! Happy weekend!

Kim - ooooo! Love all your finds, but I have a thing for vintage table cloths. They call out to me. The daisy glasses are fun too.

DaenelT - Wow! What great finds.

Lanny Lou - one word … SCORE 🙂

Jacci - Great fun. I’m painting a table yellow this weekend… just a little one for beside my very makeshift sewing table. But the yellow is very pretty. Painting stuff just seems like a happy Spring thing to do, doesn’t it?
When you said “this is so me”, I wondered – when do you think you started to really get a clear sense of what was “you” for your house. I remember not long ago, you felt like you finally found your clothing style. Pretty different from the way you seemed to dress when you first started the blog. Did you have some kind of “a-ha” moment, where your house style just kind of started falling in place like that, too?
Fun stuff. I think the chenille blankie is my favorite. I’d lay in the grass on it 🙂

Katie Skiff - Oh Score!! Did you find 1979? I’ve been looking for one from 79 to replace mine!!

LadiesHoliday - When I read antique store finds, I thought, myeh…not my thing, but I suppose I’ll look anyway…curiosity, you know…but wow! You really did find some great things. I love the cats and the glasses with daisies…you have an eye for stuff like that. Way to go.

Anna Marie - Gonna go out on a limb here and guess that you are either making curtains or a bunting with those hankies. Am I close? Huh, am I? :o) Awesome finds, Meg!

ko. s - I wish I had a thrift shop like that in our area! Oh my word!!!

Meredith - Great job. I need to start looking for my antique shops in my area. I love this stuff.

Amy K. - My grandma had those daisy juice glasses! Thanks for transporting me back to her kitchen for a few minutes!!

Brooke - awesome finds! I love the chenille blanket! wanna sell it tom me? 🙂 One of these days i will get to marion to go to the store there…you got several quilts there right?
where do you shop in newton?

Kelly - Score… indeed!! Can’t wait to see what you do with the hankies! Happy weekend!

Cindy - I looove that bucket too! Great score!

the etc.

our local thrift shop is called The Et Cetera Shop.
the town i grew up in had one also so it's been part of my life for a long time.
i donate LOTS of stuff to it every year. (kids out grow out of clothes so fast!)

but i buy LOTS of fun stuff there too.

i stopped in yesterday for their grand re-opening after remodeling….ya know….just to peek.

IMG_6621-8

i left with a box almost too big to take to my car myself.
oh my.

IMG_6623-9
this seriously heavy duty fish shaped bottle opener could not stay there all alone.
it needed me.
it was lonely….it had traveled all the way from Moses Lake, Washington!

IMG_6626-10

a little spray paint….
a little oxi clean….
maybe some RIT dye for the chenille…

IMG_6628-1
another chalk board.
i just can't resist them!

and if they have a green painted chalk tray….forget about it?!!!
it must come home with me.
IMG_6656-16
talby came home and said "what does thrifty mean?"

thrift·y/ˈTHriftē/

Adjective:
(of a person or their behavior) Using money and other resources carefully and not wastefully

Synonyms:
economical – frugal – sparing – saving – economic

craig may disagree that i am "thrifty" BUT at least i enjoy a bargain when i find one.

IMG_6635-13
pottery in the perfect shade of turquoise….
teeny red cardinal salt and pepper shakers to be saved for a craft someday…
a silver dish to hold bracelets in my bathroom….

and a handmade blanket that screams "happy valentines day!"

IMG_6633-1

IMG_6650-15

a weathered globe….
and a yard of sweet heart fabric.

it was a fabulous day at the thrift shop.
i love those kind of days.

we are painting this after school…because….it's pretty!
Hearts

(source…)

and i can't wait.
it looks completely relaxing to paint that.
pattern and color over and over…..ahhhhhhh.

do you have big valentine's day plans?
i will be honest with ya'll….i don't celebrate Valentines.
i don't decorate.
i don't make treats.
i buy the $2 box of cards for my kids to take to class…with Victorious and Angry Birds.
i am sure if craig was one of those guys that went nuts with gifts and flowers for valentines i wouldn't object to that but seriously i just don't really care.

i know i am loved everyday.
and my kids know it too.

here is my ode to valentines….from the Lord.

VerseV

thank you Lord for that kind of love.
amen.

:)

Jeeva - These are really funny. I would be esatctic to get the knot one in the mail. Also, a note, I’ve been reading your blog for a while, don’t think i’ve ever commented, but wanted to tell you I have really enjoyed reading your post.

Imran - these are so uber cute and special!!! Thank you so very much for srnihag!!! When I do a new blog post I will link these to my blog—I think that’s how you’d term it—-(I’m new at this)—be blessedBeyond Measuretammywww.bbbm.weebly.combartlettpair4atmsndotcom

Mehran - Oh I am ALWAYS out of ink… I think my Printer literally dinrks it before I can ever use it.. LOL!! These are Really Cute… I seriously need to learn how to use my photo elements that I bought Two years ago still sitting in the Original Box Unopened because of FEAR!!! .. 🙂 But thankfully there are WONDERFUL people like you who offer such CUTE Free things to print.. 🙂

Terrie G - so, how did you like the geodesic dome? My husband’s cousin made it. It’s like setting up all the dominoes…I wouldn’t have the patience for it!

Kristin S - Ugh, our thrift stores are so lame! Tempted to drive all the way to Kansas…

Bethany - Ah… I saw that afghan in their facebook pictures. Dreamy. But I didn’t make it up that way for the reopening. Glad it went to a good home. 🙂

Karen Pittson - I found that EXACT “Bless our Home” plaque at the Goodwill. You can see how I transformed it here http://alilbird.blogspot.com/2010/08/gussy-up-your-80s-plaques-and-crazy.html Loved the pretty pages of hearts, and your darling girls. Thanks for sharing your life with us 🙂

Brandi - I made the Oreo pudding poke cake for my kids on Valentine’s Day. It was a huge hit. How could it not be, right? I’m going to try the water color craft later today. If it turns out like your daughter’s, it will be a framer.

elisa - I love vintage chenille. Love. And that pink and red blanket!!!!

megan - whoa. i’m kind of dying over your thrifty finds.
fabulous!
and
i don’t decorate for valentine’s either.
and, perk #142 of homeschooling? not having to make valentine’s cards. 🙂
i’m kind of a valentine’s grinch.
the Mr. and I did leave the kids home alone to go out for an early dinner, though.
xoxo

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - P.S. I also meant to say that I had this exact same globe(your newest one) when I was in high school. And I actually used it for school:) If only I had known then that Id want them years later…

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - Im jealous of that chalkboard. I have one in my home that I made over from a cheap, gold frame of a full length mirror. It turned out great but Id love a huge rectangular one for my kitchen wall. We just repainted in there after the fire and its so much brighter!(Ive cooked meals almost every night since we repainted…a sure sign that its more fun to be in there now than when it was red:))
I recently scored a globe at a new thrift store here in town and it was still in the box! I got it for $7.

Vonda - You know how some things take you by surprise!? Well I just got the mail and my daughter gets Popular Photography and as I laid it on the counter YOUR picture was on the back. I was like “I KNOW HER”. lol. Been following your blog for a long time. It was a nice surprise!!! 🙂

denise@victory rd. - i never have such luck when i go thrifting. never. love the globe. i am so in the market for globes. found some last week for $50-$60, used! that’s not thrifty.

Lisa - I can’t believe someone could part with that beautiful crocheted afghan! But what a score for you! I have one just like that in yellows, oranges, & browns that my grandmother made for me when I was a teenager . . . with a matching pillow! Sentimental love! And who can ever pass up chenille anything! Looks like a successful treasure hunt.

Yby5 - I would have wrestled you over the globe and chalkboard..I have the same love of those as well 🙂
what a great day you had!!

Jenn - That’s awesome the the fish bottle opener came all the way from WA :). I am using your comments to find people who live close to Moses Lake since I live (semi) close to there too. I like other WA bloggers. So thanks for that! As for Valentines, nothing big, usually just a sweet note to one another and a bottle of good wine. Simple and fun.

Melody - fun finds! My mom grew up in Moses Lake WA so we were there MANY times over the years visiting family (and still have some there to visit) 🙂

Lori Austin - Great finds! Love the bowl and the chalkboard….I’m waiting patiently to find some older (character filled) chalkboards in my town. No luck so far.
Love V-day. Start the day with heart plates and yummy breakfast with a couple of special surprises by my kiddos plates. Worked the party at my daughter’s school. Home to make our “special family dinner” with small valentine mailboxes filled with cute little items. Pink, purple, red color everywhere. Love it!! (plus my hubby one up’d the flowers this year and came home with the 2nd season of Downton Abbey on DVD. Woohoo! 🙂

Mindy Harris - i love all of your finds. wonderful wonderful. i may hafto make a special trip to ETC. ha. happy heart day.

Amy @ www.littleforalittlewhile.blogspot.com - At first I thought that box was full of things you were TAKING to the thrft store and I thought “Why would she get rid of all that awesome stuff?!”. Makes so much more sense the other way around 😉 Happy heart day!

Wendy - My girls went to school with their Valentines this morning without the accompanying lollipops … bc they ate half of them last nite 🙁

Kristin - Oh my what good finds! We don’t celebrate Valentines Day either, our anniversary is a week later. 🙂

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Hello Miss Meg, Happy Valentine’s Day to you. Just letting you know I “borrowed” your 1 Corinthians verse for my blog. Hope it’s okay. I didn’t think you would mind. P.S. Love the fish bottle opener 🙂

Carrie - wow oh wow what an awesome thrift store day!! the globe is awesome!!! jealous of it all!!! 🙂

Juli - I have that exact chalkboard! Yours originally had a green rope that went through the holes. Mine hangs over my son’s headboard and currently reads, “I love you, Jackie poo-poo”, a “love note” from his sister! HA!

kristin - ha! i had that afghan in my arms for about 10 seconds and put it back….feeling overwhelmed by my growing box.
: )

Rebecca - rad finds Meg!!! love that blanket!

Mary - I bought that exact same Bless Our Home sign last year at Goodwill! I painted mine turquoise and orange. And I’m thinking about repainting it again. So fun!

Marianne - Love the turquoise bowl!! We have a white and charcoal grey kitchen and I visit second hand stores to collect colourful dishes to display! I have come across some real lovelies but now that my open shelving is getting full I am becoming more choosie. I don’t think that’s a word but you get my drift… 🙂

Kerry - What an awesome name for a shop! You got really thrifty there Meg – I can spend HOURS at the charity shop – buying stuff for ‘What if’ and ‘Just Maybe’ Great finds 🙂
I don’t really celebrate Valentines either, but I got a bottle of Jimmy Choo perfume, so I’m all smiley anyways xx 🙂

Jen - Oh that red and pink afghan is AMAZING. Wish I could find one of those!! We had heart shaped pancakes for brunch, but we don’t do much else… I’d rather celebrate love all year long than just today!

Margo - I am so happy you found such great things! As we put the store back together on Saturday I saw that globe and totally thought of you! If I had even had time to really look around that bowl may have been mine….ha!

kirsten - if only I could find stuff that cool at my local thrift shop.
i read your last post right before bed last night, and then dreamed that i came to visit. it was SO much fun visiting you in dreamland. 🙂

Amy - Moses Lake is right next to where I live….we go to their water park during the summer and they’ve got a great pizza place! let me know if you want more fish for your sea…. 😉
I made homemade nutella poptarts this morning for the kids….with strawberries to look like hearts! that’s it folks! I’m actually wearing black today….oops! Love the family and the hubby everyday!!

happygirl - I love your thrifty ways. It makes reading your blog so much fun. I don’t make the treats either. I’m glad I’m not the only one. 🙂

Maria - Ugh, auto correct… A night off cooking…not alight…just ignore any other typos…

Maria - We keep it simple here. We order dinner out instead of the whole, grab a sitter, wait, wait wait with everyone else. I’d much rather just have alight off cooking and just relax at hometown catch up on the DVD together.
Flowers…if I don’t pick them out at SAMs myself (I can’t help myself sometimes), I’ll usually see a simple bouquet brought home, which is fine. This year I gave a big hint on which ones I wanted from SAMs. We’ll see…otherwise I will get them myself later this week…
As for candy, I have to pick up brachs candy hearts ( the big ones) every year….in fact, I already bought them…i am addicted to the orange ones…my kids get the rest…mostly.
Happy Valentines Day!

Ashley - Oh, how I wish we had an awesome thrift store like that! My grandparents have that Bless Our Home plaque. I have always loved it.
The boys helped make treats for school, valentines from balloons for friends, and we open small gifts with the kids. My favorite was my oldest’s pair of Night Fury sunglasses from the store. Just a small, fun gesture. It’s always been kind of big for me because it’s when the hubby asked me out nearly a decade ago. Sentimentality, I guess. Showing the love daily rocks, though, an that’s exactly what we strive to do! 🙂
Have a happy day!

sara @ it's good to be queen - yes, love the etc. shop. you better believe that is a must stop whenever we’re in kansas. it is SO CHEAP!! way better than goodwill. i got a huge box of goodies over christmas. milk glass for a quarter? yes. please. i love all your finds. so great. happy day!

mandy friend - okay, your state is the place to thrift! we NEVER find cvool stuff like that in oregon…or if we did it’d be in an antique stor for lots of $! i paid almost $40 for the globe i was finally able to find!

shannon - Oh my goodness those goodies you got!!! I love the globe and that blanket is perfect, especially for today 🙂 Your thrift store looks amazing, ours is not so great. Hope you and your loved ones have a great Valentine’s Day

Meg Duerksen - thanks so much dana!!!

Dana D@BoysMyJoys - Here’s a link from my pinterest page for the heart print- http://pinterest.com/pin/71142869083511516/
And here’s the link for where she sells the print in her shop- http://www.etsy.com/listing/92537572/small-v-color-study-print
LOVE all your great finds!

Ali - Oh my goodness!!! I seriously would have bought every single thing you did. I loooooooove it all!!! Awesome 🙂
Happy V-day!

geneva - I agree about Valentines Day! Just a commercial holiday to make $. Treat your love and loved ones the same way everyday! Who needs a “made up” holiday!! ;)Anyway, my love’s birthday is today! 🙂

Jolene (Homespun Heritage) - I do NOT normally DO Valentines Day…its just not a “holiday” with much meaning to me…we love our family daily and don’t let the media or the masses tell us what day we have to set aside to show them that. So, imagine my surprise when the hubs comes home for lunch with a bouquet and a balloon?!!? It *IS* extra special simply because that is a rare treat and I love him surprising me! (He usually does that sort of stuff throughout the year and not ON V-day).
I told him I planned a nice family dinner but I can’t gift wrap the pork chops very well!

Lori H - Valentines is no big deal at our house. My husband knows not to buy the overpriced roses…I love the tulips from Trader Joes ($4.99). Now that my kids are older, they don’t take cards to school. Just a Hallmark Holiday in my eyes. Love your thrift store finds. Gives me the itch to go hunting!

Laura Phelps - you are so thrifty 🙂
Nick is in LA for a while….
but cupid left treats for the kids
and I am off to do some fun baking
i do like valentines day
its my moms birthday
and well…
love is just so darn hard
so I am happy today to have so much of it around me
I dressed the dog
ha!
in a heart print dress
its killing me
tonight I think it is frozen french bread pizza for the kids and a little writing for me
yup
romantic
love to you and your family
xoxoxoxoxox

Amy@BuffaloRoam - Very cool finds! Love me some thrifting. 🙂

Whitney - Good thrifting!
Such a cute painting, I can’t wait to see what the kid’s versions look like!
Happy Heart Day!

Kerstie - You so scored at the thrift shop. Valentines day IS over celebrated. Showing love threw buying flowers and chocolate… not my thing. We do do heart shaped pizza, heart cookies, and cards the kids scribble on. I am a crafter soooo some V-tines day crafting does happen. 😉
Happy day!

Tiffany - Oh man, that art is cute & simple, i like that, we may have to give it a go too. Thrift days are like that, feast or famine. And you know what they say about men and thrifting…A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs. A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn’t need, it’s sooo true in my house, sounds like yours as well. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Jenn A. - I am sad that anyone ever got rid of that handmade blanket! But it is balanced out by the fact that it now has a loving new home. It’s gorgeous and so very HAPPY!

Mary - i love your blog, i visit often but don’t leave comments much, i figure with so many it’s just one more to read…:)
but i want you to know i look forward to each new post.
grace and peace

Seriously Sassy Mama - Valentines is not big at our house either. I tell my girls it is for grown ups. I get my husband a card every year, and the girls the $1 Russel brand chocolate box at Walmart, plus a tiny craft. This year it is a bead heart necklace I got for %50 at Hobby Lobby. I spent $1.50 on each child and they loved it! Personally I would just like someone to do my dishes today, and clean the girls toilet. That would be a great gift! God’s love was the first thing I thought about this morning when I started reading everyone’s Valentine stuff. Have a happy day painting, and yeah to your thrifting.

Molly - 1. love the verse!
2. we don’t go all out for valentines either. And that is fine with me! I do like to give the girls a little something special….like heart shaped marshmallows:)
3. Love the thrift store finds…makes me want to go be thrifty!
4. I had a dream about you last night….my family was driving through Kansas and our car broke down. You tried to fix it with your hair dryer. But we needed a place to stay and you said we could stay with you even though it was craft weekend and your house was already full. I think you even got my husband to do a craft.
5. I am pregnant with #3 and have been dreaming alot:)

Mandy - Love the fish bottle opener!!!
I just painted valentines day cards for my co-workers and it was very therapeutic! Highly recommend diving into that painting above….

Kim - i vote yes to your thrifty finds.
fun, fabulous, and educational too! 🙂
i LOVE that bless this home sign.
LOVE LOVE LOVE. that is a diamond in the rough for sure.
and i’d be snuggling with that valentines blanked 24/7. i love a good pink and red combo. throw in some chevron and you have a big winner. 🙂
happy valentines day!

Lisa McCracken - We celebrate Vday around here, just a little. But I think it’s “over”-celebrated to some degree. But it’s fun!
Can you tell us where you got that amazing print of I Corinthian’s? Is it something that can be purchased?
Thanks! and Happy Valentine’s Day! 🙂

Kim - Nice finds! We really celebrate Valentine’s Day here – it’s my daughter’s birthday. She is such a sweet girl, having a b-day on Valentine’s Day really suits her. So today I am busy making lasagna and brownies, wrapping presents and all that fun stuff.

courtney casper - moses lake?! haha teeny tiny town..right next to my husbands even teenier and tiner home town!
good find!

Holly - love a good thrift store day!

what if people don't listen?
what if i forget what i was going to say?
what if i cry?   how much will i cry?

i am wearing some fabulous shoes….

Melissa Bolton - Meg! That family picture is fantastic!!
Not that I’m one who should be giving fashion advice, but I love those shoes!
I’d wear an understated outfit, like great jeans and a black or white shirt. Let the shoes and accessories steal the show.

Have fun!

elz - I have glitter shoes almost exactly like that (Mine are the kate spade Charm heels. LOVE). I usually wear mine for evening events. If I were to wear them during the day, I would wear black skinny jeans, a white shirt, a solid shrug or cardigan or a colored scarf. Let the shoes do the talking. You’ll be great!

andrea - Your sunflowers look so happy! I tried to bring some in and they were covered with aphids! I would think glitter shoes would match anything. That family picture at the end is priceless!!!!! Wish I could attend Blog Sugar! Maybe, someday.
Cole

This Farm Family's Life - My cousin wore those same shoes in a wedding. The dresses were deep purple and they looked awesome!!! So maybe wear a dark purple top???? Love them! You will rock it!

Laura - Yes to the glitter shoes! Everything goes with glitter shoes! Have fun and wear the shoes!

Laura Phelps - glitter shoes, I would imagine, can be treated like animal print shoes…”because they go with nothing, they go with everything.”
I want to go to blog sugar.
badly.
God had other plans for me this month…hate when he does that

Kerry - oh those shoes…… those shoes!! divine! what a fun, awesome september you are having, and you still managed to fit a run in? wowza! :)) xxx

happygirl - EVERYTHING goes with glitter shoes. Break a leg. Just be your AWESOME self. 🙂

Vonda - Love your shoes!!! I have a pair that are very similar, just no peep-toes! I think glitter shoes go with anything! I feel like cinderella when I put mine on!:)

crystal - I’m sort of hoping that you have a Freudian Slip and say “orgasim.” I for one would laugh my head off — not at you, with you. Because it would be so funny, and you are someone who could pull it off.
Good luck to you. I covet those sparkly shoes. 🙂

Nikki - Honeygirl, EVEYRTHING goes with glitter shoes! Don’t be afraid of showing off your blogger badself!

amanda - oh…..glitter shoes go with anything!

Heather (One Take On Life) - First love the shoes, those rock! And that cabinet, I heart that cabinet, what an awesome find.

Jenna@MomofManyHats - Annie has so much wisdom! What a girl. My husband has taken me fishing so many times. So far I’ve caught a tree, the dock, some seaweed, a bush and the side of the boat. A fish has to be next, right?
Also, don’t underestimate a LBD with sparkly shoes!
Jenna
momofmanyhats.blogspot.com

kelley - I love the shoes! wore them as a bridesmaid in a wedding 2 weeks ago! We had solid purple dresses on. Honestly- I think any solid will look great! So what’s your favorite color? go with it! The material we wore was shiny, I think that helps.

Wendy - How bout some fantastic leopard print ensemble to go with those glitter shoes!

Secret Mom Thoughts - Love the shoes! I would go with a little black dress.

Tanya H - Looove the shoes, looove the antiques, looooooooove that family picture. Wow, that really just captures it all! 🙂

Rebecca - I wore shoes almost exactly like that for my wedding. They looked fabulous but felt terrible. I’m just warning you, girl: BREAK THEM IN!!!

Holly - Yes, chippy red paint is awesome! Here’s the plan: if you screw up while giving your presentation at BlogSugar, I will burp really loud and put all the attention on me. I love you that much. Looking forward to meeting you and burping for you this weekend. Now, I seriously need to go find some better shoes.

Karen Gerstenberger - You will find the right thing to wear – glitter shoes will go with “whatever” else you find that you like. It will match because the same creative spirit that inspired you to buy the shoes will inspire your vision for the rest of it.
I wish I could hear you speak.
I love your photos and your fresh perspective, Meg.
xoxo

seriouslysassymama - Glitter shoes go with EVERYTHING! I love the furniture, and cannot wait to see what you do with it!

Mrs. Edberg - I think almost anything would match glitter shoes. Especially a nice pair of black slacks or a cute black skirt. Keep the bottom simple and your sassy shoes will POP big time! So fun!

Holly - I saw the glitter shoes recently and almost bought them, but decided that nothing would go with them! ha! Cant wait to see what you come up with!

Nikki - My heart skipped a beat over those shoes! They are fantastic! I could never wear them though,I’d fall flat on my face!

Tamara - I think black might accentuate those awesome glitter shoes! Just so you know, I was in a bad mood on Saturday…and read through every one of your Waffle, the Wonder Dog posts…and they lifted my spirits. He really is a Wonder Dog!

Melissa - I love that cabinet and all it’s chippy paint charm!
I love those shoes but I could never in a million years wear them!
Am I really the first to comment?!? I rock!
