since this picture a few days ago we have been infested with green lady bugs…not their real name i know.
and our sunflowers leaves have been devoured.
not cool nature!

she sat down and this red lady bug flew right onto her leg.

i love the stripey capris.

Cecilia - Your daughter is beautiful! I have been looking for some inspiration for what girls clothes I should buy for my daughter for Christmas this year. This has been quite helpful, thanks!

Kristine - I know you love bright colors but she looks fabulous in that eggplant colored romper!

Angie - Those rompers are so cute!! She’s a doll ๐Ÿ™‚

non geographic numbers - Little girl as they grown up, they will be independent by choosing their own stuff. When it comes to fashion, they know what they want that fits for them. Now days romper is one of the favorite dress of girls not only little girls but also big girls.

JustMommer - She is adorable and so cute in her new clothes, I love rompers too. I feel like I’ve watched her grow up, love her style.

Shannon - She looks so grown up Meg! Love those adorable clothes you both picked out. Off to check the outfits out for back to school for my girlies ๐Ÿ™‚

Pink and Green Mama MaryLea - Love her hair! We just got “C” new Tea clothes for Kindergarten this fall. She’s been wearing her dresses all week and I LOVE them!!

Southern Gal - We wore “rompers” when I was in high school. Not to school, of course. They were terry cloth and other soft fabrics. I have a picture of me and my high school sweetheart (future husband) while wearing one!

karen gerstenberger - She is such a pretty girl, and those clothes! Ah, do they make grown-up sizes? ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ve decided that the days of fitted waists are OVER. Bring on the beautiful long tops!

melodee - awe new clothes before back-to-school are sooo fun! you should know your porch and buntings (and cute bulb lights) are adorable. I love them from your inside pix too from your craft weekends:) I had to copy you and put a bunting above my kids’ shower curtain:))

Lindsey - She is adorable! I love Tea clothes. A little expensive but so worth it. I can’t stop buying them for my new little girl!

Sandy - Annie looks so grown up and is looking more and more like Talby. She’s so cute! Love the clothes.

Michelle - I can’t believe how grown she is getting Meg! She is looking more like Talby to me.

Caring for ME.

Dove Visible Care sent this Toning body wash for my family to use.
that was an easy request.
i shower everyday and i will always try a new soap!
Dove says i will have “visibly more beautiful skin in just one week”.
that sounds awesome.
419RoKMoIxL._SL500_AA300_

– i am trying hard to keep my skin beautiful and my whole body.
Dove says using it for at least 3 weeks will give me even better results.
fabulous!
it smells wonderful.
it has a creamy mouisturizer & it’s thick enough that it doesn’t fall off the bath pouf before i get it onto my body.

– i have been wearing sunscreen and so far have avoided a major sunburn that i aways get by now.
i enjoy my freckles but know i need to protect my skin from the sun.
the smell of sunscreen IS the smell of summer…add in the smell of the cholorine from the pool & i am a happy girl.
do you have a favorite brand you wear?  i would love to know.

– i wish i didn’t have to but i have been using bug spray almost everytime i am outside.
because my legs covered in bug bites is not the way to have beautiful skin.

– i have been up early to run not as often as i hoped but still doing it when i can.
it’s hard to leave that bed but as soon as i am out the door it’s so great to be awake!
13181390_265x265_pad

– i LOVE the running skirt i bought awhile back.
i was not sure i would.
i thought the shorts underneath would ride up and be uncomfortable.
honesty is what you like to hear right?
well….they do ride up….but only a little….not to wear any parts are exposed….just up to wear a modest swimsuit would  stop.

but an even a bigger sell on the runing skirt….my husband liked it.
he noticed.
and i like that.  ๐Ÿ™‚
so i bought a few more.

– i have a hard time eating right like most everyone does.
somedays i try hard….some days i fail BIG time.
i wish margaritas were diet friendly.
i would have that everyday!

So that is what i am doing for ME this month… waking up and running early, suncreen, fruits and veggies, sweets in little moderation, and enjoying the Toning Creme Body Wash from Dove VisibleCare.

and i got a massage last week and it felt really good too.

Betsy B - What kind of running skirt is it??? ๐Ÿ™‚

Julianne Brimner - Hey Meg, Crystal Light has a Margarita Mix that you might want to try. Not exactly the real thing, but with a little salt on the rim of your glass and lots of ice, it may be a great replacement. They have mojitos and appletinis, too.

Molly - I really like Aveeno’s line, the body washes are great. I need to try this Dove wash. I have the exfoliating one, but I need to try this one. I tried Oil of Olay’s shea butter wash and lotion, but the wash seems really heavy to me. So I have just been using the lotion instead, but I think the wash made my skin feel more moisturized.
I have been reading your blog since I came across it from Crystal B’s. I love how honest you are about raising your kids and the good and bad days.

Amanda - You need to get some Sting Stop! I was pulling weeds one night and looked like I broke out in hives b/c of all the mosquito bites. I put Sting Stop on each one and they were gone by the morning. ๐Ÿ™‚

goofy dogs all over this place.

so….today is crazy.
i left town very last minute.
arranging schedules and rides and play times for kids when you have to leave is so hectic.
expecially when it's last minute.
but i am very thankful for so many friends who step up when you need them!

happy monday to you….it's going to need LOTS of caffine.

LOTS.

se7en - Oh adorable… Adorable!!!

Sheila@Chinaberry - Oh there’s nothing better than one black lab . . . except perhaps two! And you get to enjoy the pup next door without all the extra stuff that comes with it. I say just revel in it and don’t worry about whether or not you need or want to have another dog, because this pup will be full grown before you know it.
-From a black lab lover ๐Ÿ™‚

elisa - Keep the pup- I have three!!! But of course I only have four kids- and you have five ๐Ÿ™‚

Cathy - What a wonderful puppy! I love the pictures

Grace - I loooove your picture with the flower. Crossed eyes onTHE flower! Good shot!
I have to confess that I made a blog a while ago, and I have to say, that I am so happy to follow yours that you motivated me to try to keep-up on mine!!!! I love posting there my pictures of my experience in the US because yes, I am french!!!! I have no big family but I have big times too here and I love thinking that maybe I succeed to share this joy through the blog!!!!! http://graceetanthonyaboston.weebly.com/

happygirl - Pretty puppy. They fool you into loving them when they are cute and young like this. My dog is old and deaf and almost blind. I have no idea how he can smell up a room the way he does. ๐Ÿ™‚

the domestic fringe - Awww…that’s such a cute puppy. We have a similar pup next door to us. My kids love him to death. Great photos!
~FringeGirl

jennibell - Look at those big paws!! Love puppies. . .and even more if they live next door ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a blessed week.

Maura - I love the banner hanging on the porch in the background. Did you make it yourself? And is it regular fabric or a more durable outdoor material? I would love a tutorial…. Hint! Hint!

Lori Austin - Adorable dog pics. Hope all is okay. Aren’t friends such a blessing?!

amanda d - so cute! I love the one with his ear up ๐Ÿ™‚

my thoughts on getting older….

The people at Pfizer created a platform called "Get Old" that is designed to encourage women to embrace the advantages of aging. They asked me how I felt about getting old and about what I saw as challenges and joys of aging at any age.
These were some wonderful thought provoking questions!

How do you feel about "Getting Old" as a woman?
I feel like there is nothing I can do to stop it so I might as well embrace it! That I should try to make it the best that I can every day.

Who or what inspires you to "Get Old" well?
My grandmother is a wonderful example of gracefully aging. Until just recently she was still volunteering her time at a Children's Home and taking exercise classes several days a week. She got a computer and she learned how to use it! She is an inspiration. She showed me no matter what your age you should still give yourself and your time to others.

What do you do to get "Get Old" well? For your body? For your mind?
When I was younger I ate whatever I wanted, rarely exercised and took my healthy body for granted. As I aged, I gained weight and felt much worse than I had on a daily basis. Now I can look back and see the pattern of bad habits and carelessness. NOW I am running regularly and working on endurance. I am much more aware of what I eat and put into my body. I feel better than I have in years!

What are some key lessons or pieces of wisdom you've learned as you've gotten older?

Some of the best lessons I have learned in the past five years revolve around truly being ME. Being confident in the way God made me. Being proud of the things that make me unique. Surrounding myself with others who allow that freely. Focus my efforts on positive things in my life that bring me joy. Give my all and my best at everything I try. And to KEEP TRYING new things and new adventures.

How have your ideas about what it means to get old changed since you were a child?
I think as a child and teenager I thought "getting old" would be terrible because it seems, to a child, that older people never have any fun. That is funny when I think about it now. "Old" people have ALL the fun. We get to do all the things we want…when we want… and how we want! I love the privilege of aging and all the blessings I get to enjoy as I get older. I am grateful for every day I get.
How about you? Do you dread getting older or are you embracing it?
Tell me in comments to enter to win one of three $500 SpaFinder gift cards, courtesy of BlogHer and Pfizer! Entries will be pooled between thirteen participating blogs.
And don't forget to go over to Get Old and share your story, read the stories of others, and find some great tips and tools for making the most of whatever age you happen to be.
For your convenience, here are highlights from the Official Rules for the Sweepstakes. Please note by submitting an entry you are agreeing to the full Official Rules, available here.

This sweepstakes runs from 6/18 to 8/31.

Kerry - I sort of dread it! But, what can ya do about it?

Kelly D - I feel uneasy about growing older. However, I hope for the best and realize that I cannot sit around dwelling on growing old… although today is my birthday!

Mel - I look forward to retirement and traveling in my โ€œold ageโ€

Linda - I want to see my kids grow up and get married some day, getting old isnโ€™t all bad

leann lindeman - Well, As a opposed to not being on this earth anymore I guess it isn’t so bad.

Amy @ A Little Nosh - I’m not at peace with it quite yet, but I’m getting there.
alittlenosh AT gmail.com

sandra - i dislike getting older due to the pains and aches

Karina Lee - I’m excited to get older and experience more of life
karinaroselee at gmail dot com

Carolyn G - I used to think 50 was so old. Now that I am only a year away, it is not that old. LOL I think getting old is a natural progression. I don;t like but I am ready for it

Elena - Getting older is something I think about more often lately. I don’t like the aging of my body, but I feel like I make more right decisions now than ten years ago.

Myne Whitman - I look forward to turning 35 this fall, but it is scary too. Seems it was just yesterday I was 20 ๐Ÿ™‚

Kimberly Dial - I’ll be 51 in August & I’m okay with it … this year. Last year, when I turned 50, I had a terrible time with it mentally. It seemed so old to me but I didn’t feel old in my head (although my body reminded me of my age very often!) … I’ve had nearly a year to adjust & I’ve come to terms with it … I want to be an example of growing old gracefully for my grandgirlies & be active with them … we went on a two mile walk this morning! ๐Ÿ™‚

Stephanie C. - I’m turning 30 this summer and so far I’ve been embracing getting older. I’m much more confident in who I am and I love the things I’ve gained in recent years, like my 2 crazy kids!

seleyrn - I agree, I would never want to return to adolescence and high school days. But dealing with the aging body, and an aging parent are things I could easily give up. I have more time now that I am retired to do and enjoy things I couldn’t spare the time for when I was younger, but I have to force my self to get up and work on keeping my body fit and more healthy. When one is young, there is that desire to remain sexually attractive, but at some point you realize that is never going to be your reality ever again.

Kasey - I don’t look forward to getting older, but like you said, there’s nothing you can do about it. My dad is 65 and is dying. He planned all of his life to retire and travel, but he was forced to retire due to his bad health, and cannot travel now. I’ve learned to not wait to do something you want to accomplish, because you just might not get the chance later.

Agnieszka - I’m embracing it. I’m in my mid thirties but secretly feel like a kid anyways. I ignore my gray hairs that keep creeping in.

D - I am not embracing my age very well… I have a hard time actually remembering how old I am…. was it 33 or 34… sometimes I feel like I lose an entire year! I feel young and am active with my kids and enjoying life… easy to forget a number when you are feeling good and enjoing every moment ๐Ÿ™‚

El - I am 61 and do not feel it…until I look in the mirror and then I smile. Life is what you make it.

Lisa P. - I am so much happier now then when I was younger….hope I live to be very old!

Kate - I am embracing it, because what else can you do? I am 41 and have a 4 year old and a 1 year old. Playing with them helps me feel younger!

Melissa Mae - The older I get, the more comfortable I feel with who I am. Often I think I should act older than I do, but I will always be a kid at heart. I just turned 30 in march and I’m still in denial, but not in a bad way. I just feel like I’m 20. My problem with getting older, is that my kids are getting older. I want them to stay little and innocent and think their parents are the coolest people in the world. I hate that my babies will one day leave me. That is my biggest struggle. But when I feel that way I just remember that they are only 5 and 11 months, and we still have a long way to go before they take off. I try to enjoy every minute with them.

Kristin Hayne - I agree that age is just a number. I still feel like I am 17 but recently played competitive softball again and felt every one of my 37 years. So on that note, I keep building strength and good eating habits… I look forward to aging…gracefully.

Tabathia B - I dread it because of some health problems I feel as though I look older than what I am and my mother and her mother have always looked great and appear younger than what they actually look
tbarrettno1 at gmail dot com

Jenn B - For the longest time I wanted to get older. I thought I would like it. There are parts of getting older I like but health declining is my least favorite. A spa treatment sounds rejuvinating! Just what I need!

whitneybens@yahoo.com - I try to keep in shape, so as long as I continue, I’m okay with getting older!

Melissa - Getting older? Bring it!
I feel better about myself now than I did ten years ago!!!

Amanda - I am trying to embrace getting older, but as I start having more gray hair it is hard. ๐Ÿ™‚

Prairie Mama - I’ve decided that I’m proud of my age! (: It means Jesus has blessed me with another day to spend with my family. Live life intentionally and fully and appreciate every minute that you have. Growing older is nothing but a gift. (:

Julie - i’m finding lots of new signs of aging daily. i don’t like it. i can’t stop it. let’s start a new trend of embracing our aging bodies so that people can stop wondering “where are all the older women??”

Grace - There are so many things left that I want to do… and each day is a wonderful opportunity to cross something on my bucket list! I am so grateful that I get the chance to explore so many things with wonderful people…
I can’t imagine how fulfilled you must feel when wise and old!

nicole i - I am embracing my age all the way. I turned 40 this year, started washing my face with oil, eliminated sugars, dropped 20 lbs and let the greys stay grey! bring it on…every decade is better than the one before. i also hope to be wiser with age…so i need a few more decades under my belt!

Emilee - I’m embracing it!!! I love all the new opportunities and challenges getting older brings!!! I’m still in my early twenties, and I can’t wait to see what the coming years will bring!!! I saw a quote once that said something like cherish getting older, there are so many who never had the chance to!

Karey - Age is just a number ๐Ÿ™‚ I admit I get nervous about aging but also look forward to it!

Kate - I’m good with getting older. I am much more comfortable in my own skin.

Heather D - I’m still pretty young (26), but I don’t dread getting older. I look forward to all the opportunities aging brings, like kids, a house, stability, wisdom.

secret mom thoughts - I’m ok with getting older. Beats the alternative.

Beth Ann - Although I use supermarket products to help defy looking older, I am appreciating the wisdom that has come with age. I am also appreciating every day I can be with my family!

Laura J - I am looking forward to every wrinkle, scar, and memory. Never will I hide my age– I’ll wear it proudly! Growing up, I was taught that grey hair is a sign of wisdom. I hope to embrace that concept as the time approaches.

happygirl - Getting old is much better than the alternative. Getting old with grace and energy is harder to do. I need to lose weight and get in better shape if I want to age with energy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Cori - A while back, I saw two old women (in their 70s or 80s) who were climbing this incredible hill. They were HOOFING it. They looked more fit than 3/4 of the people I know at any age. I remember thinking, “I want to be one of those old ladies!” So I’m embracing fitness (triathlon in a month!) and eating right. Although I’m not all that old (31), I’m realizing that I have to start now if want to be climbing hills at 80!

Lorilei - It depends on the day…some days I hate it (like when I injure my knee doing something simple like WALKING DOWN THE STAIRS). Other days I totally embrace it (like when my little brother calls me for advice because he’s so confident in me that I’ll have an answer for him because I’ve likely had some sort of experience with whatever problem he’s facing). All in all, I totally recognize that it’s a BLESSING to get to grow older. ๐Ÿ™‚

Lisa B - I am embracing it. I lost 50 pounds and am in the best shape I have been in , in over 20 years. I am looking forward to it just being my husband and I in the house:)

juli - I’d like to think that I’m aging with grace. I never want to be accused of trying to hide my age with makeup or plastic surgery.

northern cottage - Absolutely embracing it….there are so many people who don’t get to get older and I try to concentrate on savoring the moments!! We are so much wiser than when we were young! I don’t feel ‘OLD’…I just have more time and experience behind me!

Meghan - When I think back on high school – how awkward and difficult it was, it always makes me appreciate whatever age I am today. Every day is a blessing and a chance to learn from my experiences! There are lots of things that run in my family- like arthritis and more, so I know that to “Get Old” well I’ll need to make healthy choices today!

mollie d - It’s a double edge thing, I don’t feel older, but my body doesn’t always cooperate, other than that, I am enjoying getting older

kribss - I go back and forth on getting older. The aches and pains and kids getting older are the downfalls yet I feel a little wiser and less worried about the small stuff.

Lennie Jackson - My husband just turned 30 and we have been thinking about aging allot. I constantly think about how this is the “meat” of our life our children are young right now, growing and learning everyday. I am really trying to take it all in and enjoy every last drop of it. Great post.

Stephany - Hi Meg-
Wow, the timing of this post is amazing!
I just turned 37 yesterday and was wondering if I am where my “younger self” thought I would be at 37.
Then I thought, either way, life is good!
Stephany

Ashley - You know, I’m still fairly young, but I feel like every new age and season is an amazing gift. I learn something new every day. I think that embracing it is the only way to go. You’re only as old as you want to be.

Linda - Let’s say I’m trying to embrace it! I try to find joy in each and every day! And Meg, I thought your words were inspiring, as always!

Holly - Nowadays we have so many beautiful older women that have shown that we can still be beautiful as we age. I can’t stand to see comments where people are “29 again” instead of embracing their real age. I don’t have any hesitation at being 43 almost 44. Every year God allows me to grow and I hope I am growing in wisdom and at the same time not letting my spirit get old, but learning new things and having fun. I really don’t feel old, in so many ways I feel 20… until I get on the floor and try to get back up.

Staci A - I’m embracing it, as it means watching my little ones grow and spending each day with them exploring new things.

Alice H - I’m glad to be aging. It beats the alternative. Thanks for the giveaway.

Sarah - I believe I’m an embrace getting older sort of lady. To be frank, each day that I age on this earth means one day closer to being with Jesus. How can that be scary?

Jen N. - I’m okay with getting older. So many people never get the chance to for so many reasons, so it really is a gift.

use your camera to capture summer fun!

One of my many hobbies is photography. I almost always have a camera nearby. I feel funny when I don't, and I feel a little crazy when I see a shot and CAN'T take a picture.

Today I am going to share some of the ways I like to capture great summer photos of my family.

A huge part of what makes a photo great instead of just good is the angle with which it is taken. Taking pictures standing up in front of your subject the same way all the time can get old really fast. Here are some examples of changing your angles.

GET DOWN LOW

When you get down on the ground, sitting or lying down, your picture is completely different. Sometimes I just hold my camera down low and point it at my subject. Shooting low can get a lot more of the background, giving color and visual interest to your photo.

GET UP HIGH

IMG_3263-22

6a00d8341c469c53ef01630525280e970d-700wi

I love finding ways to shoot from above my subjects. Sometimes there is a chair, table or stairs to stand on, but sometimes you just need to hold your camera up above and shoot down and see what you get.

GET CLOSE

IMG_1331-20

Close shots are my favorite kind to shoot. I love catching detail that the wider photos miss, like nail polish, whiskers, bug legs, toad warts or colors of rocks.

FIND A REFLECTION

IMG_0659-17

IMG_5441-1

Finding reflections is easy when you start looking. Sunglasses, windows, rain puddles and even hubcaps can provide a fun way for the photographer to be in the picture, too.

Another way to get a good shot in the summer is to BE in the action. Being close to the action gives a different feel to the photos; people can tell you are there, not just observing. You have to willing to take some risks with your camera. You can't play it safe all the time if you want some really unique photos.

GET MESSY

IMG_3729-2

IMG_3795-5

In order get pictures of your kids getting messy, you have to let them get messy! And when they do, be ready with your camera for all the smiles and fun.

GET WET

Water play caught in photos makes for an awesome picture almost every time. Catching the drops of water midair gives an interactive feel to the picture, letting the person looking at it feel as if they are there.

And lastly, when looking for excellent summer photos, you have to consider the light. Morning and dusk are the ideal times for pictures outdoors. The golden light at both times gives a soft glow on skin and all around that most photographers love.

My favorite time of year for photography is summer. The colors are vivid, the sun is bright, and the kids are happy most of the time.

I hope you feel encouraged today to get out there and try some new angles, take some risks, get a close-up action shot, and look for the golden light.

Happy Shooting!

Whitney - Simple post that illustrates what we should be remembering when we photograph! Thanks so much… I needed this!

U r so creative and real. Thanks for great tips and advice.

Katrina - Oh, and I don’t know if you noticed, but in that picture of Annie with the big bubble, the bubble looks like a foot that and two of the toes have floated away. Lol. I just thought I’d share that. Bubbles are like clouds to me. I love looking for what the shapes form.

Katrina - This post is just what I needed. I know all those tricks but somehow I find myself in a creative rut sometimes. I feel inspired to get some creative shots in today. Thank you.

Iris Brown - OMG! These pics are so funny, goofy, and poignant. I have to try the shaving cream fight with my kids and daycare kids. They would have a blast. Thanks for the inspiration!

sewa mobil jakarta - Very nice, thanks for sharing.

Jenn - Thanks for the tips! I only really ever use my iPhone… But I do need to improve those photos too :). I have to admit though, I don’t take many pics because it drives me nuts to watch things instead of be in on the action! I swear some of our family adventures go completely undocumented because of this :). The iPhone helps though.

Kristina Croatia - this is the most positive blog i have ever seen :)))
LOVE IT <3

Katie - Your pictures are bee-autiful! Thanks for sharing them. ๐Ÿ™‚
I am a Mom of Four who LOVES photography – I am no where near professional, but I do adore taking their pictures. I have a question I’d love to get your opinion on. I have a Nikon D40 with a Nikon DX 18-135 Lens that I’ve used for the past few years. Well, unfort my camera fell out of the bag and the lens broke :-(((. So, I now need a new lens. Looking for a “Jack of all Trades” if that is even possible. The 18-135 has gone up in price and is really more than I want to spend at this time now ($600). We found a NIkon Bundle for $850 that inclues a Nikon D5100 with an 18-55 and 55-200 VR Zoom Nikkor lens included. Not crazy about the idea of carrying around 2 diff lenses…would rather have one that worked for almost everything. However, I am wanting to ask for my b’day for either a 35 or 55mm for portrait style pics – do you have a preference b/w those? Anyway…if you get a free moment, I would SO love your thoughts and advice on all of this. Sincerely, Kate kruley@cox.net

lindsey - i love all your tips (and photos)….thanks for sharing. i, also, always have a camera with me and try often to get different shots!
enjoy your summer!

Sara Torbett - Thanks for the great tips Meg! ๐Ÿ™‚ You capture your world in a beautiful way and THAT is inspiring! I love the picture of either Talby or Annie in the tire swing (can’t tell which girl it is!) It is dreamy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Londen - Love your photographs Meg! I finally got a “big girl camera” that I love, only problem is I’m kind of scared to carry it with me most of the time…maybe I better get the insurance so I don’t have to worry about it.

Heather F. - Thanks for the tips. Your blog has the most beautiful pictures, full of color and light.

Tiffany - You make it look easy!

Melissa Bailey - Hey Meg! I just wanted to let you know that there is this blogger award going around and I gave it to you! So if you want to get the image to post on your blog, come over to my blog! Love reading you!

happygirl - Great tips. I wonder who will help me up after I take the down low pics. ๐Ÿ™‚

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - You are such a blessing.

April R - I know that feeling! – that mini-heart-spaz when you can’t take a picture! ugh!
I <3 taking pictures and capturing the bits my brain forgets and remembering all over again when we look back ๐Ÿ™‚
thanks for the tips and the encouragement ๐Ÿ™‚

Esther-D. Abad - Simplemente magnรญfico y altamente didรกctico.
Un Saludo.

Michelle Z - How do you “get wet” without getting the camera wet? Do you have a waterproof camera for those times?

kerry - oh mannnnnnn… this is like mothers milk to me… I think I’m a little in love with my camera! Great tips Meg, I’ve pinned this on my pinterest too! X

KTG - So beautiful. Totally inspired!

Sarah - Thank you for all your reminders…I feel like I’ve been so camera-lame lately and I needed to read this. (Although the getting down low part is sort of impossible for me right now-but what a difference it makes!)

Lora - These photos are all so much fun! Love the shot of Annie getting thrown into waves!
How do you keep your camera from getting wet and damaged? I took mine to Hawaii and the salt water got all over the lens and camera. So hard to clean, and made for some blurry photos!

Chantelle - I love to dabble in photography. Close ups are my fav as well. (ps. I wish I had your eyes) ๐Ÿ™‚

secret mom thoughts - Great tips. I need to let the kids have a shaving cream fight this summer. How fun!

roganne - those pictures are so great! i love the one of the buckets of paint…is that homemade sidewalk chalk?

becky@oursweetpeas - This is a teeny bit off topic BUT what do you do with your photos? I LOVE to take pics, LOTS OF THEM, but sometimes get stressed when they just exist on my computer and then when I develop them for an album I have to leave a ton out because I have taken so many Make sense? Thoughts? ๐Ÿ™‚

Gemma - Thank you for such a fab post! I have admired your photography for such a long time so this is great to read.
Gemma x

Anna - How do you keep your camera safe around the messes and water?

Jenn Shock - I love looking at your pics! What lens do you find you keep on your camera the most of the time?

Caroline - This is great – thanks!! My biggest challenge is knowing how to change the settings on my camera fast enough to still capture the shot….

Tami - Your pics are always awesome!! It was because of you that I invested in a good camera for my blog! I’m getting better everyday with my Nikon 5000!

Cathy - Love your pictures. I think that is what first drew me to your blog. I have my camera in my purse almost always.

Linda - I can’t even tell you how much I LOVE THIS POST!!!!! Your blog inspired me to try photography, so for about a year now I’ve been learning. I love it so much! Thank you!

Stephany - I always have my camera with me, too. If not my dslr, my iPhone.
Thanks for the tips!

Nicole - These are great tips. Thank you for sharing! GREAT pictures!

Alisa - I LOVE this post. If I had to sum up what I love about your pictures it is exactly those things. Do we get to take a peak at the new house (inside) or are you keeping it private on purpose? I would love pics up close, down low, up high, with good light, using waterand even getting messy!

kristy - thanks so much for this. I need to get my dslr out more and figure out how to use all the features!! Any tips are always welcome!

shannon - I needed some inspiration!!! I’ve been using instagram so much I rarely bust out my camera anymore but your bright, fun photos always get me excited to capture fun times of my girls ๐Ÿ™‚

Laura Phelps - my pics sucked until i found your blog
i always carry a camera
never a pen or lipstick
but i have my camera ๐Ÿ™‚

Lindi - Wow!! Thanks Meg!! These are great tips!! Your photos are always inspiring!!

Jennifer - Love the picture of Talby(?) in the tire swing. Pure Americana (so says this Canadian!). Love the last picture of you, too.
And I miss your house. HA!

movie party….in MOMs room!

I am always looking for fun ways to spend time with my kids.
3M sent a projector to help us be creative with family time.
i couldn't wait to use it.

IMG_0912-1
My mind was immediately full of ideas!
We have an outdoor movie party every year at the end of summer.
We provide every kind of topping you can imagine and our guests bring their favorite
kinds of ice cream.
In the past we've borrowed a projector, but now we have the 3Mรด Mobile Projector!
It's small and portable and hooks up to an iTouch, iPod, iPad or even my laptop -- amazing!

Most of the time I am not up for hosting a big party with lots of prep and planning.
But we always have family night on Fridays. It's usually pizza and board games.
this week I surprised the kids with a formal invitation to my party.

IMG_0910-1IMG_0911-2

All we need for family night is us!
Just seeing that sign made my three youngest completely thrilled.

We piled onto my bed and used our new 3M projector to make memories together.
Comfy
jammies were required, slippers were also in attendance.
W
e needed LOTS of soft pillows and favorite blankets.

IMG_0944-1

I popped popcorn, bought chocolate chip cookies and we used water bottles for drinks.
Actually, we even shared water bottles, because we are family!
I don't think I can watch a movie without Mike & Ike's so i made sure we had those too.

IMG_0946-1

My little girls were very excited. They love to be cuddly with me and with their dad.

The hardest part of the entire evening was choosing a movie!
We watch lots of movies so it was a challenge to pick one that keeps their interest
and that they haven't seen. My favorite family movie is "The Emperor's New Groove," so we almost
chose that. But we hadn't seen HUGO so i went with that one. I rented it from iTunes, downloading
on the iTouch. The kids found their comfy spot and settled in. There was just barely enough room
for us, but the squishier the better when it comes to cuddling!

We loved spending time together in a fun new way. You don't need a big party to have fun.
Sometimes the best times are when you are just together, even if you're smooshed. Ha ha ha!

The 3M projector will be great for slumber parties, camping, team parties...so many possibilities!
It's so small we can even take it on vacation.

It turns your tiny little iTouch into a movie theater -- that's awesome!
You can get an additional cable to hook it up to PCs if you don't have the i-products.
It is also able to be hooked up to bigger speakers for more sound.
It's available at Target.

Shannon - Love this! My husband would set up the tent in our family room and we would watch it from there!

Emily Larsen - My dream/goal…have a family date night once a month and watch a movie–I love the bedroom idea. For Christmas I would love to spend Christmas Eve at a hotel–free continental breakfast, dinner in the night before and this would be so fun to do on the hotel wall. And of course, presents and swimming in the morning.

IT recruitment - Movie night with my family member is the best way to catch up things
and bonding as well, popcorn’s plus juice or wine will make our night
great!

Katie Jacobson - We would build the screen i found on pintrest using pvc pipe and a white flat sheet. And host movie night as a good behavior reward letting the “child of honor” pick a movie, or have a family night once a week with it. My kids love watching movies and love inviting their friends over to watch movies

Carmen - Since we don’t have a tv in our room, we would use it for movie nights in our room
For a special treat.

denise@victory rd. - i’d use it in the driveway and host a drive-in movie night,
at a friends pool and host a “dive-in movie” night,
in our back yard for camp outs,
and finally and what i’d lvoe most- to use it as you did- the family huddled together in our bed, but watching our family movies on a rainy winter day! *dream*

Debra F - We have a big screen TV (not huge though) in the basement and every Friday night we do family movie night. We order from Netflix, pop pocorn, the kids get to choose either a soda or some candy and we watch as a family.

angie lilly - We actually have a projector in our bedroom but the light bulb in it died and we haven’t replaced it due to cost (over $300 per bulb!). We loved watching movies on it though and do miss it. If we decide to get a new bulb, I know it will stay right over our bed like it is now! LOL

Jill H. - In the living room

Jammie - we love movie night, a little popcorn and some junior mints to make a ton of memories. sweepmorey at gmail dot com

maria cantu - We would use it in my bedroom first.

ajoy1332 at yahoo dot com

Jes - we have wanted one for so long, we have 6 kids and have been dying to purchase one!!

Cori Westphal - I’d set this up in my sons room, because it’s the darkest room in the house!
coriwestphal at msn dot com

Betty C - I have the perfect wall in my bedroom so that’s where I would use it first. I’d also like to use it outside some evening.

Eugenie Wu - we usually order pizza delivery and Eskimo Pie and rent a dvd. half the time it seems to involve vampires movies.

Howell - we like to have popcorn or some snacks like pizza or Mexican bites. always hard to choose a movie.

Shel - In our living room on our wall for family movie night.
shel704 at aol dot com

Kerry - I’d love to use it outside on a beautiful summer night!

Kpagliaro - I would love to have this for my 6 year old daughter! We don’t allow her to have a tv in her room, so she would be thrilled to use this projector to have a family movie night in her own bedroom. We would do popcorn and coke (movie night only treat:)! Thanks for posting this cute idea and for the chance to win!

LAMusing - We’d use it on the patio on warm summer nights!

Tabathia B - tweet

Charity - Sounds really cool!

jessica - I would pull it out to celebrate the last day of school, in the backyard, withy every pillow from the house, and something cold to drink.

Emily T - Thanks for sharing…ah, the possibilities! We would do drive in movies on the driveway/garage door with the neighborhood kids.

maria - At the dentist’s office! if my kid’s dentist gets a flat screen with cartoons at the pediatric dentist, why can’t I watch something when I’m just laying there getting my teeth cleaned ;0) We’d watch movies in our room, take on vacation for the hotel room or cabin, use for our school movie night fundraisers, use while taking a bubble bath – not near the tub of course, outdoor movie parties, parties for slideshows, the possibilities are endless! Paola - Ohhhh…i would love to have many movie nights in my backyard…it would be soooo much fun.
Paola

Vaughn Thayer - We would be able to use this in so many different ways! I have a lot of movies saved on my computer, so being able to hang a sheet on the fence and have a summer evening movie would be so much fun, also it would be fun to use it during those rainy afternoons during the summer.

Julia - Outdoor movie night for the neighborhood for sure! We have so few warm nights here in the SF Bay Area (that’s to the fog) I’ve wanted to take advantage of them with a movie night since we bought our house. Our driveway can easily fit 4 cars, so if we make it a bring-you-own-chair deal the whole street could come!
My choice for the first movie: The Princess Bride

Amanda S - We would use this in the living room….set up with lots of blankets, pillows, and snacks ๐Ÿ™‚

Cindy Brooks - We’d hang a big sheet outside and watch on the deck under the stars!
someluckydog at gmail dot com

tara pittman - WE love redbox and pizza

kateh - A great big 5th grade graduation presentation party with rolling picture’s from kinder through the huge 5th grade performance! Yeah!

heather - This is such a fun product!!! We do playroom movie nights and it would be a lot easier to use this little guy than drag the old tv in and set up the dvd player!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Brandy - Maybe on the ceiling in our family room!

Linda R. - My husband has been wanting to do an outdoor neighborhood movie night ever since I showed him one of your blog posts about it. Our new neighborhood is crawling with kids, and it would be a blast to get everybody together!

Melissa N. - I’d do like you, I’d put it in our bedroom first, and snuggle down with the hubs, baby, cat and two dogs and enjoy a good cartoon ๐Ÿ™‚

Tammy - I’d definitely use it at our cabin in the woods. String a large white sheet between two trees and set up lounge chairs for everyone to enjoy under the stars! A bonfire off to the side and lots of blanket. What more could you ask for on a beautiful summer night.

christine f. - Whoa! That’s the coolest gizmo ever.

Katie - I would use it on the very white wall in our apartment’s living room. We haven’t hung anything there yet and it is just perfect to show a movie every Saturday on it for date night.

jodi - we would do movie night on our screened in porch – too fun!

Denise - This sounds like such fun! I would love to have one!

Heather - I actually think this would be so fun to take camping, but inside my house I would have to make a giant screen on a living room wall. And now I need some Mike N Ikes….

Wendy B., NJ - I would love to use this for family movie night in our room too! We no longer have a vcr/dvd player in there and this would be perfect!

Trudy - hang up a bedsheet outside for movies and invite other families over!

Michelle Holden - My family would love this!! We have a wall perfect in our bedroom for family nights and a wall in the backyard for kids night!!! You rock Meg

beth - Our family room – great spot above the fireplace with plenty of room for all of us (and friends!) on the sectional!

Tracy Fisher - I would use it in our bedroom. Everyone in one bed. Snacks and all (Milk Duds, Popcorn with real butter and Gummy Bears). I only have 3 1/2 years until our oldest is off to college. I need more of these moments… that is what I know for sure. ๐Ÿ™‚
Tracy

Jill Jones - Holy heck, I could do some damage at Target with $150!
-Jill

rachel - I’m a teacher and I need this in my classroom. Oh the possibilities!

Amanda - Super fun! With the nights finally staying warm here in PA, we’d do an outdoor movie night with the movie playing on the garage. What a neat machine!

marcie - That is soooo cool!! The first place I use it wouldn’t actually be at home. I am a children’s director at a church and I would plan a cool family night there first I’m sure and then I woulkd definitely use it at home too ๐Ÿ™‚
Marcie

Andi - Outside for sure!

Megan J - I would have used it for today’s Girl Scout meeting. We watched a first aid video on my laptop in the basement of the church. ๐Ÿ™‚ We would probably do the same thing you did and have a family movie in our bed.

Hope - would use it for youth group gatherings.

Brigid - Having this nifty little gadget would get us motivated to finish our backyard movie theater… I mean patio;-)

Sara M - in our bedroom instead of a big tv hanging on the wall

kimmie - this would be so much fun in the pool area! we could float in the pool and watch! so fun ๐Ÿ™‚

Stephanie - How neat! We are brand new to this house–been here a week and a half. Since we don’t even have furniture yet, it would be so un to gather in our living room with blankets and sleeping bags to watch a movie.

Johanna - I would totally do just like you—pile all the kids in the bed and watch Despicable Me!!

Kelley - I would love to have one of those projectors!! But more realistically… I would probably use a Target Gift Card to buy just a bunch of necessary items: shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc.

Tracy - Backyard movie or in the tent when camping! My kiddos LOVE watching movies in our bed too!

Angela - Such a sweet idea! I personally love the formal invitations. Nice touch!

Lari - We would probably use it for an outdoor movie and invite friends over. The 1st on we watch would probably be a Star Wars movie…what can I say??? I live in a house w/ all boys! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Kari - My husband and I have completely opposite schedules so we hardly ever get to spend time together other than sleeping. We try to keep a set date every other weekend, to have a “date”. On top of that, he’s the type of guy who doesn’t really like to go out and do things. So we usually end up spending our time together watching movies and vegging out. Having this awesome little projector would make our movie dates so much better. :]

Carrie H - I would take it on vacation with us! WE don’t really have any open walls to project on to ๐Ÿ™

Amanda - For my daughters 4th birthday party, we borrowed a projector from a friend of a friend of friend (which was a huge hassle), re-arranged the furniture in the living room and hung a sheet on the wall to create a movie theatre. Everyone loved it and my daughter still begs us to re-create our homemade movie theatre for her again. This would make that possible!

Holly - We’d use it in the backyard for movie night!

Arlene - Two ways…#1 for help in teaching classes…the traditional projector is always a technical ‘boogie man field’ never knowing if it will work or not…did you push F1 or F5 or what-the-heck-ever button.
