friday business

waffle is at the vet getting neutered.

right now as i write this.
poor waffle.

driving 5 kid & a big nervous dog to school in our horrible school traffic while listening to the Annie
soundtrack is kind of like driving to a bus to CrAzyViLle.
oh my goodness.
it felt a bit like Sixteen Candles….
all we needed was kazoos.

i am full of randomness this morning.

check out this little goofball.

my sweet silly girl.
man i miss having that color hair.
when i was little i looked exactly like this…isn't that right mom?
she is Mini-Me.
i really miss my naturally blond hair.

forgot to show this last week…

IMG_8311

twinsies!
micah shared his extra tigger costume with annie for preschool!
it was big time excitement around here.

IMG_8331

ms. kristin made pumpkin pie playdoh.
it smelled exactly like pumpkin.  it uses an entire container of pumpkin pie spice!
it was so cool.  it tastes terrible…because it's playdoh.
i am sure many kids tried it just in case.
they pretended to make muffins and cookies.  it's so much fun in there!

IMG_8334

big plans for today:
cutting out a bunch of paper turkeys for my 3 year old sunday schoolers
having coffee with a friend.
sewing another curtain.
cleaning up my kitchen (how does it get so gross so fast?)
and sorting all the laundry i folded.
watching some DVR-ed shows (i am 3 weeks behind on 3 shows!)

many of you asked about the chandelier in the girls' room.

IMG_7949

it's from IKEA.
you can find it here but it's not available online.
you have to get a cord kit also….super duper cheap.
i love this lamp.

oh how i miss IKEA.
i wish i could walk through an IKEA today with naturally blond hair.
HA.

happy friday.

eight is great.

sean’s 8th birthday was success!

IMG_4261

after VBS (where he didn’t want to go but managed to have a great time)
we picked up 3 of his friends for a 2:00 showing of Kung Fu Panda.
funny movie.
(does anyone else sit in cartoon movies just concentrating on whose voice it is?
i really like to do that.
and so proud of myself when i figure it out…i am a dork.)
we were the only ones in the theater.
oh, except for my mother-in-law who came seperately with my other kids.
sean said “they aren’t allowed to sit by us”
but once it was just us…we all sat together.
we didn’t expect to walk in and have the whole theater just for sean’s birthday!
pretty cool.

IMG_4240

after the movie…at sean’s request…we went to subway.
craig took him here on their ski trip and he loved it.
meatball sub on wheat.

IMG_4243
i have lived here over 3 years and have never been into subway?
weird.
and we were the only people here too.
it was adorable (he’d hate that word) watching these boys read the menu board
trying to decide what they wanted without their moms.

IMG_4247

cheetos…coke…cookies.
of course.
time for presents.
KU hats, legos, transformers and singng birthday cards with the star wars theme song.
he was so happy…truly happy.

IMG_4256
IMG_4262
IMG_4266

sean’s buddies.
he is the old man of the group.

the party ended there
and started again at home after dinner.
california family is in town and got to celebrate with us!

IMG_4268

almost every year we have this photo…
sean hiding while everyone sings happy birthday to him.
he’ll outgrow it someday i am sure of it.

IMG_4273
IMG_4280
IMG_4282

a hulk mask that lights up, legos, golf balls, cash and his own set of golf clubs.
that’s a pretty good birthday.
he sat down right way to begin building his legos.
his brain is MADE for legos.
i love that all my kids are so different.
i’m sure yours are too but it is just so cool to think about.

i really enjoyed my time with sean today.
he is a special blessing to me.
happy happy birthday sean.

annie and i are getting very used to bernie, darrell, troy, clyde & terry
at the house everyday.
i think we’ll bake them some cookies this afternoon.

exciting day

we finally saw santa.
he happened by craig’s office yesterday.
with rudolf and the grinch.

Img_7615_2

this is talby’s face she makes when she is nervous…
always.

Img_7616_2

annie was keeping close eye on that grinch.
but they weren’t afraid.
and there was no crying.
santa misunderstood what talby was asking for.
she said “it’s okay…when he brings me that i will just give it to annie”

Img_7619_2

just as i was about to get the perfect shot…
annie was done.
“see ya”

Img_7621_2

Img_7622_2

upstairs on their way to craig’s office
they saw him again through the glass wall.
knock knock knock
“santa!! santa!!”

Img_7623_2

then some time to play on daddy’s marker board.
and computer.
and mess up all his drawers.
and eat cookies from their christmas party.

Img_7631_2

then we went to the carwash.

Img_7635_2

seriously…this was the highlight of their week!
better than santa?
better than cookies?
these girls know how to party.

today

much better.
much calmer.
more sleep.
refreshed.

Img_4088_2

i got lauren enrolled in school…finally.
she was given a lower locker.
she went to the office and said “um..since i am like the tallest kid in seventh grade…would it be possible to have an upper locker?”
she decorated it later with a friend.
SEVENTH GRADE!!! yikes.
i remember football games, slumber parties, dressing alike with my friends, “going together”, hanging out at pizza hut and boys boys boys,
i wonder what she will remember.

Img_4095

i managed to get annie to play “sprinklro-ene” for almost an hour today.
(sprinkler under the trampoline)
i fell asleep on a blanket in the grass for maybe 3 minutes.

Img_4083

inside for a much needed wake up snack.
iced coffee and chocolate chip cookies…mmmm.

then an impromptu haircut on the porch.
i just thought she needed one.
she won’t wear ANY thing in her hair for more than five minutes
she won’t let me brush it.
it usually looks like this.

Img_3933_2

so i chopped a bunch off.
it’s not perfect but it will be super cute after a bath.

Img_4100_4

then she was rewarded for sitting still (sort of) with m&m’s.

Img_4108_2

then she shoved the whole handful in her mouth.

Img_4116_2

we ate a dinner of noodles and grilled cheese
went for a walk around the block with ice cream cones
a quick swim in the pool
and off to bed before 8:00.

now it’s lauren’s bedtime so i am off to the craft room to start scrappin’.
(or watch tv..whichever comes first)

Hangin’ out

This Friday was all about relaxing.
The little girls and I made chocolate chip cookies because I was craving them soooo badly. They were very good.
During Talby’s preschool I laid down with Annie to get her nap in and I got almost an hour before waking up . . . very nice. I enjoyed the quiet in the craft room sorting my art box.
What is an art box you say?
It’s a big cardboard box where I started throwing Lauren’s art into 8 years ago. Since then it has 4 other children’s art on top of it. It’s actually very fun to go through. Two years ago i bought these boxes with labels. I put everyone name on the boxes and there they sat for the past two years . . . empty. Some of the things were cracking me up. And it’s so cool to see how much they progress in their handwriting and drawing skills.
During Lauren and Scott’s piano lessons I have to keep the other kiddos quiet. Usually a challenge but not today. Their teacher comes here because she is so great. Annie painted watercolors and Sean & Talby played play-doh – for 2 hours! They were even upset when they had clean it up for dinner. I love days like that!
And my 2 oldest are OLD enough to ride their bikes to soccer practice! That’s awesome.
The only bummer of the day is that we drove to see the Hillsboro high school basketball game in Halstead and the game was over (tournament). We had the wrong time. But a blessing in disguise . . . movie night with popcorn on the couch instead was very relaxing.
