craft weekend.

lots and lots of pictures from the weekend.

three of the girls flew to kansas…two from california…one from alabama.
two of the girls drove from oklahoma.
the rest of the girls were local within 30 minutes.
three of us went to the airport to pick them all up…there were even some tears of joy upon meeting in real life.

craig is a super star and took all of our kids to his mom's for the weekend…with the stomach flu.

all the blogger girls stayed at my house.
i have lots of beds….a little known fact apparently.
everyone had their own mattress.
we must be mattress hoarders.

IMG_7449
my dining room that turned into a game room decided to become a craft retreat lodge this weekend.
we fit in there so well!
all the sewing machines were on the pool table!
it was like the room was made for it.

IMG_7302
on friday night we made our first craft led by julie.
we used this tutorial by little miss momma.

they turned out so cute.
almost everyone chose a different color.
you need to make this!

IMG_7309
kimberlee didn't have on lipstick so we had her use her necklace for lipstick.

IMG_7305

IMG_7298
lots and lots of chit chat while we were crafty.
and i see waffle's paw at the bottom left corner of this picture.
he was by our sides every minute….loving the the attention from the ladies.

IMG_7312

there was so much good food.
cindy made breakfast on saturday.
we got to sleep in….a requirement made by me.
don't you hate going places for a "retreat" and then have to be at breakfast by 7:30 am??

IMG_7315

there was even a sweet little baby in attendance!

IMG_7320

after cindy filled us with crepes with fresh fruit and quiche we loaded into a 15 passenger van to go antiquing.
we debated about decorating the van with bunting……

IMG_7346
so fun.
we are any stores DREAM.
a van pulling up with 10 women to shop???
we were met with big smiles.

IMG_7325

IMG_7338
9 out of 10 ladies left with new found treasures.

IMG_7334
cole with his mama picking out all the best doilies.

IMG_7344

IMG_7326
i took them to my favorite antique store…Bearly Makin It.
so much to choose from.
if you are in kansas….you should go.

IMG_7364
heather found silverware for her party planning business.
a total score!

IMG_7355
anyone need a milk jug???

IMG_7359
loving the sunshine!

IMG_7360
all the ladies took turns holding sweet baby cole.
it was our pleasure.
he hardly made a peep the whole weekend.
and everyone had envy of julie's gorgeous hair….it is soooo pretty.

IMG_7366
on saturday in kansas we had a really odd extremely warm day.
we were so grateful for it.

IMG_7439
can you guess what i bought from all these goodies?  ha ha ha

IMG_7414

IMG_7384
after a sonic happy hour run we made it back to my house for more crafts.

IMG_7412
the ruffle pillow tutorial heather taught us with is here.

IMG_7409
3 women had never sewn on a machine before.
they ended up being ruffle making rock stars!
they did fantastic.
ashley's machine made the best ruffles…we all waitied for our turn on her machine.
no one knew what the secret was….but it worked….no gathering required.

IMG_7411
i love being around people who love technology as much as i do….

IMG_7421
threading a needle….

IMG_7402
the third craft was embroidery hoop art.
we were given lots of examples that we could make or we could make our own design.

IMG_7407
amy's was amazing.

IMG_7389
we stayed up crafting and listening to frank sinatra on pandora and eating tiramisu until 2 in the morning.

IMG_7442
kimberlee made breakfast on sunday.
there was frosting involved.

YUM.
IMG_7444

IMG_7447
another great thing about crafty girls weekends….women clean up.

always.

IMG_7455

IMG_7459

IMG_7474
there were cameras everywhere.
and fabric everywhere.

dreamy.
and my brass lamps from the thrift shop.  :)

IMG_7485
there is a peek at amy jupin's ruffle pillow.
i am in love with the ruffle pillows…i want to make a hundred of them.
and her turquoise flower necklace is also in the picture.

these were all of our hoops together…not all finished but all together.
mine is the one right
here under these
letters.

IMG_7469

IMG_7493
trying to set up our cameras for a group shot….caught kimberlee being silly.

IMG_7524
jana (no blog….yet) and amy jupin.

IMG_7525
                                                             jess  and  julie.

IMG_7522
ashley and cindy    (also no blog….YET).
cindy came with ashley so she didn't have to drive alone and show up to a house full of women she had never met and be trapped with us if she didn't like us…
turns out we LOVED them both!
very much.

IMG_7531
                                                                    heather, cole and me.

IMG_7526
amy   (my neighbor) and  kimberlee  (my cleaning partner)

and that was that.
they went home with their suitcases full of new crafts, antiques, julie's messy flowers and full tummies.

and i haven't stopped smiling since.

God gave me blogging.
He gave me a gift that i get to continue opening when i meet new friends from all over.
God is so awesome.

my mind feels full of creativity.
my heart feels full of love and friendship.
my body feels too full of cinnamon rolls and cheesecake.

the retirement center has been missing me.

my bloggy friends left just in time….we are snowed in here and it's FREEZING.
my house has never been this cold.
i am bundled up in a blanket with many layers and hot coffee and i am still frozen.

T.McClelland - Hi! I came across this by accident, and I am so glad I did! My friends and I have started to do craft weekends together; we have a great time! Don’t know how much crafting we actually get done……we stay in our PJ’s…sometimes put on a chick flick…eat chocolate….we take turns going to each other’s houses. It’s a nice, fun, relaxing, full of laughter good times.

Amanda - OH Man! I see at least five of my favorite bloggers in the same room being crafty! I have gained so much from you and looked forward to all the inspiration from your creativity!!!

Wendy - That sounds awesome. I can’t imagine a day of hanging with friends & crafting, much less a weekend! I miss having friends that live in the same town as me 🙁

Jessica @ These Are The Days - Well I was going to guess and say “if it were me I’d have gotten the globe”, but in one of those last pictures I saw the globes so I’m pretty sure I was right.
Love the necklace you gave Edie…I was coveting it the whole weekend at Blissdom. If you would tell me where I can snag one, I’d be over the moon. 🙂 Thanks, Jessica

(how far was it again??)

Kristi~The Slipcover Girl - looks like such fun! we had a craft night recently…it was a blast!

Diane @ InMyOwnStyle - This is the best idea for bloggers to get together – so much better than a big conference. Reading through your post was so enjoyable. I love the globe you got – wish I lived closer to go to that antique store.

Bonita - I’m not even crafty and I don’t know any of you (came over from Nester’s blog), but the fellowship looked like so much fun that all the way through the post I kept thinking, “I wanna go.” So glad you had such a fun time!

Amanda @ Serenity Now - I’m visiting from The Nester’s and I had to tell you what a dream this looks like! 🙂 It’s hard enough to get my local girlfriends together to do anything, so I can’t imagine the planning that went into this. What a fabulous time you all must have had. 🙂

Sarah @ a drop of golden sun - Wow, what an amazing bunch of women, and amazing talents! Tonight is our first of what we hope to be many more, “craft club”! I am hosting at my house, but I don’t think it will be anything nearly as spectacular as your whole weekend was! Something to strive for I suppose. Thank you for sharing!

Ps. You totally got the globe. 😉

Krystle - I’m new to your blog my m’dear… you are fabulous! I first found you because your house was adorable and I fell in love with your kitchen. Kristin S - Meg, what a dreamy weekend. Your husband is a trooper! I bet he knew you NEEDED that girl time.
Your perspective at the end is shaping a seminar I’m doing at a women’s conference this coming weekend for women who work for our ministry. I am SO NOT an expert but just want to share from my heart about how it has ministered to me and others.
Most want how-to’s which is fine. I can do that. Sort of (I still don’t know how the heck to change my header). But I’d rather give big picture.
Thank you!

Sandee - Ok. This looks like the best weekend ever! Every time I get the chance to see pic.s of your house I’m in heaven… loved the one of the globe mixed in with other things at the antique store where you asked which thing you’d buy out of all those things. You got me started on wanting a collection of old globes and I just found my very first one on Monday!!! I’m so excited and can’t wait to find more.. 🙂

Sara - There is nothing better than a house full of friends with food, fun and crafts. How kind of you to open your house….I wondered what the major cleaning was about! Does anyone else think that Cindy looks like the brand new wife on Sister Wives? She is a doll…and I just put my thumb on why I thought I knew her. Funny! I obviously watch too much TV.

Really clever way to spend a weekend, and yes, your husband (and inlaws) are amazing for their coordinated getaway as well. Very cool for everyone to have their time to party, and you totally deserved yours this weekend after being an amazing wife and mom all year long! Just went on a fun blogland stroll with your links on a snowy night in Chicago. Thanks Meg.

Oh and I wish I could’ve been there!
Smiling
-Lucy

Beth - what a FABULOUS weekend!! makes me want fabric stores and antique stores and craft stores close to me!! thanks for sharing.

jennie - meg…totally random and not related to craft weekend (which looks fabulous) at all. but my pandora station just played “what is” by anna vandas, which you must listen to if you haven’t. the last verse of the song is, “What is good, what is pure, what is right? What is love, what is truth, what is holy in your sight?” Of course, it made me think of you. 🙂

mel - ahhhh!!!!! So FUN!!!!!!
Look at all those fun crafts you made!!
LOVE those necklaces!!!
Yay for Blog Friends & blog friend weekends!
What a blessing, indeed!
p.s. next time you need to invite someone who can teach you photoshop, since that is on your 35 before 35 list 😉

Kristin Hayne - What an awesome time!! So jealous…. that needs to happen in my life more often…. and was it a pre requisite to have blue eyes? LOL

kasey - I am so sorry i couldn’t make it…
you know…with the snow and all..i was just afraid of driving.
But you know how MUCH i love to craft…so i am really sorry that i wasn’t there to help you all hot glue buttons.
Next time for sure…and i’ll make the drive.
pinky promise.
I’ll even pick Laura up on my way…or maybe she could pick me up.

amber - aw, this is awesome Meg. I would love to do something like that someday. Blogging is great and the inspiration I get from you and other women/moms/crafters is so much fun. I am thankful for you sharing a glimpse into your life with all of us. I am so going to take a day trip to that antique store, I am seriously drooling over it! Thanks for sharing your weekend pictures. I am inspired as always.

Laura Phelps - I’M CRYING
seriously CRYING
but I am a DORK Meg..because I am looking at the pictures, wishing I had made the trip, but thinking at the same time how UNQUALIFIED I would have felt around these talented beautiful women!
I think I would have felt ugly and useless!!! HA
I need to find something I am good at before I walk into a room full of these ladies!
ugh, insecurity sucks
I LOVE the pics
I LOVE that God brought you all together
it looks PERFECT
you are awesome for doing this
God really is speaking through you
amazing
still crying…

Jen H. - Looks like a complete and utter blast! So many people have good intentions of meeting up and getting together, but it is great that you and these women actually MADE IT HAPPEN! Good job! 🙂

sue - World Globe.

sarah @ Perpetual Blind Date - You literally grouped all of my FAVORITE bloggers into one large crafting weekend. How fun?!

sara's art house - LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my dear! I wish I could have come!!!! :):) LOVE the hoop art.

Sixty- Fifth Avenue - oh my goodness, what fun!! your beautiful home was the perfect place to have a retreat. we are getting snowed in as i type under my warm blanket.
Londen
xx

Emily Zimmerman - Oh your post is making me tear up!! Seeing the picture of Jess and Julie together!! Oh boy makes me cry!! Makes me cry because of their loss, but tears of joy that they have met each other. Wow! Love all the pics and all the crafts!! So I have an idea…next year when you host your weekend (no pressure 🙂 or anything) what about having a contest where the winner gets to join your big weekend???!!! Or I’m pretty sure you could auction off tickets to the big event and make lots of money! Sign me up!!

Dina - LOOOOOOOOVVVVEEEE this post:-) I wanna do this with my gf’s. And thank you thank you thank you for sharing Marion:-) My bff and I went to Hillsboro in Sept.(craft fair)… we drove and drove and drove looking for barn sales — you had blogged the previous year about them…Marion, right? Can’t wait to take her:-) You’re the best!

Heather - ahhh that looks like an amazing weekend!!! One of my life goals is to have fellowship like that (with great women, great stuff to do, yummy non-diet treats, maybe a little book club action?) at least once a year or so. It has been lacking in my life since college and moving away from home, many years ago. Camaraderie without competition, that’s what I want. Meg, you always inspire me so much! And if I ever get the guts to show the world my blog, maybe that will be the vehicle God uses.

wendy, NJ - Wow! I am so jealous! I love that you were able to host such a wonderful weekend full of friendship and making memories!
Big hugs to you!

Jen - What fun! I am as crafty as a “big rock”. What I want most from you crafting weekend is Kimberlee’s HAIR!! Sigh…………..

Donna - I want to do this so badly!!! I wish I had a big enough house and a MIL that lives close so I could send my kids there.
You gals are awesome! I love all the craft projects. I’m going to have to make on of those necklaces and the embroidery hoop project. Love it all!
Thanks for sharing!!

se7en - I was going to say that photo looks lovely but then that other photo looked lovely too and so on and on… I t all looked so divine!!! The crafting, the outing, the awesome shop, the scrumshish food… the friends … totally love it all…. And if you didn’t buy that globe then I am sailing the se7en seas to come and get it for myself!!! Love it!!!

Becky - I’m not crafty but I love your crafts! They are the kind I would make or buy. I despise so many of the crafts (crap) out there. You have the most fun style, love it!

Amber - SO much fun!!! I would love to be a part of a fun craft weekend like this! It seems like all the friends that God has places in my life lately are from blog land and far away!

Heather - Hey Meg! I totally get hives even thinking about crafting like that! I have no creative abilities at all. None. BUT – next time you host a weekend, give me a buzz. I’m a great cook and I’ll come down and cook and do all the clean up for the ladies, just to be there. 🙂 I’m in Topeka – it’s doable! Ha!

Terrie - Isn’t it great to have a WonDerFul reason to clean your house?! Was wondering why you were so into spring cleaning in January! Thanks for all the Fab ideas!! I just got my sewing machine back yesterday…it’s been in the shop for 3 months! Not sure what I will work on first…ruffled pillows, the bunting I want to make for my craft room…or that quilt laying over the back of my chair since November waiting to be finished! So jealous…(I know one of the sins right…thou shalt not covet) of your women friendships! I’ve only had one dear friend who likes to craft…and having moved from her all the rest, missing that part of my life. You are Blessed Megan! Thanks for sharing with us!

Dawn Eshnaur - My friend and I both have ties to Newton and would LOVE to come to a craft weekend with you! My son dates a girl from Newton and my friend grew up there! We read yours and Ashley Ann’s blog….looks like too much fun! It’s funny….people make fun of us because we call our blogs friends “Our friends from Kansas” 🙂 Enjoy the snow!!!

Renae - Dang! I was in Kansas this weekend (okay, Missouri and some Kansas) and didn’t know this fab party was rockin’! 🙂 Oh well, looks like you girls had a fantastic time!! Meg, i’d love to know where you got your drinking glasses, with the dots on them. LOVE those. Thanks for sharing!!

Megan - You’ve shared so much. Can I ask for more? How about the tiramisu recipe?? Pretty please?

anne c - holy craziness! how fun! I need friends to do this with! what lucky women you all are to have each other and to experience such a great weekend crafting. I probably would have peed my pants to meet you and ashley…in fact I know I would have! thanks for sharing!

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - That is so fantastic! The hoops are PRECIOUS!

Tracey @7294cottageway.blogspot - How do I send my resume for that fun? I can cook, craft, clean..and I know a few really great jokes…so glad you had fun. LOVE that ruffle pillow!

debbie - I love everything about this! The crafts, the camaraderie and the food! I agree…you are indeed blessed!

Michele - Loved this post! How generous of you to open your home and your heart to all of these creative women. Thanks for sharing!

Lisa - This is what I call Utopia. Seriously, I am so inspired. I have dreamed of doing something like this but have thought, “My house is small. Who would want to cram into it for the weekend? On top of people they don’t really know.” What a lame excuse. This is the year. Maybe just a few friends, but I’m making it happen! Thanks so much for sharing! (I love that antique store too. My “girls” and I went Hillsboro weekend and I’ve been dreaming of it since!)

Jodi - I know it’s wrong to be jealous… but I am SO jealous!! I don’t know very many women here w/ the same love of crafting as I have. You are SO very blessed!!! :o)

sara @ it's good to be queen - oh my word, that looks like my idea of a good time. that antique store looks rad. I’m going to have to go there next time we’re in kS. seriously, that was such a great idea to do in the middle of winter. something fun to look forward to. I would love to do something similar. How did you decide who to invite? I think that would be the hardest part for me…not hurting some people’s feelings. also, LOVE the lamps down the middle of the table. so cool.

kat - Oh my gosh!!! So wish I could have been there too! What a super fun weekend!

Janie Fox - Looks like so much fun. I am new to blogging but there are some great hearts out there I have met by reading and now writing.
We are iced in here in central IL. Power was off for a bit but it is back on in time for me to read some fav blogs! 🙂

Beth @ odd girl out... - looks like you girls had a GREAT time! i miss KS so much, especially after a post like this, i went to school in lawrence!

mandy madison - Looks like a fabulous time had by all! Now you got me in the crafting mood 🙂 thanks for sharing!!

Amanda-ThriceBlessed - Looks like such a fun weekend!

Jill - So that’s why you were cleaning like a maniac last week! 🙂
Looks like soooo much fun! (the crafting that is, not the cleaning!)

Trish - FUN!

sarah - Looks like lots of fun 🙂

colleen - Okay, so which one of those girls is from Alabama? I live in Alabama and don’t know many other girls who are as obsessed with crafting as i tend to be! Have toyed with starting a blog and would love to know of another alabama girl i could learn from! Looks like you girls had your souls nourished! Something that for me usually comes from time with other likeminded women! Glad it was so much fun! Well worth all that cleaning!

Shayne - You have an amazing, dedicated husband! So sweet of him to take the kids, esp. when they weren’t feeling well. Hope they’re better now.
Glad you were able to create fun girl time for yourself. Girl time is special. 🙂

Ariel - How come Julie gets the amazing hair AND insanely long eyelashes??? Looks like so much fun…I need to make one of those necklaces, fast!

Kori - I wanna come play in Kansas too!! 🙂
My husband wanted me to keep lights up after Christmas and I didn’t have any ideas that didn’t resemble a frat house…lights on the walls, etc., but I am in total LOVE with the way you strung those big daddy globe lights above your table! Like dining al fresco but not. I think I’m gonna do that.
And add me to the list of chicks who have sewing machines who have never taken them out of the box and/or tried to thread them. I did take mine out of the box only to be scared by it and put it back. 🙁 I need to get over that ‘cuz I need some bright colors here in the cold of Spokane and don’t want to have to go hunting for the perfect thing when I *think* I can make it. Maybe.
Glad you had such a great time and hope Craig is better….

Suzy - I love the flowers. Does Julie offer a tutorial on how to make the pretty messy flower or does she just make them to sell? Thanks! Looks like it was a blast- good idea!!

tammy hebert - Looks like you had a great time. And all that crafting- I am jealous. Thanks for sharing..
tammy

Penny - Thank you so much for sharing photos of your time together. I am having a bunch of friends over to craft. Just for the day. But I love your ideas. I will borrow some and my friends will be impressed! Thanks. Looks like you all had a wonderful time. And they got to love on Waffle, lucky them!

rhonda - Just seeing all yall have fun together is GREAT! (I love it when women are shown as loving and supporting and real!!) So glad yall did this!

Beinghappygirl.blogspot.com - This looks like SO MUCH FUN. and thanks for the pictures. I have GOT to add pics to my blog. The crafting is WAY over my head.

Kari - Sounds like an amazing, fun time! I wish I had a bunch of fun gals to teach me to use a sewing machine. I’m ashamed to admit I bought a new machine about 4 years ago and have never taken it out of the box. I’m a chicken, LOL! Love your projects, especially the hoops. So cute!

Rachel - What amazing FUN! I have to admit, I’m a bit jealous. I’d love to host a gathering like that. I love that you just jumped in and made it happen. You’ve got me thinking…a dangerous thing indeed haha.

pam - How fun! My parents gave our 21 year old her great grandmother’s 1949 Singer….it has attachments that do things I’ve never heard of….I am VERY JEALOUS. It has a ruffler…..that you would be in awe of….does all the work and REALLY FAST.

Kristin - How awesome! It looks like you had a blast with an amazing bunch of women. 🙂

Susan - I wanna be one of your friends that you invite over! Seriously…I think if I knew you, you could make me a better Mom and person! It looks like you had so much fun! So, if you are looking to do another weekend and need a lonely mom of 6 kids 8 and under and would like to give her a reason to get away for a weekend, COUNT ME IN! I would be in my minivan so fast! You are truly blessed to have a great “family” of friends to surround you!

Courtney Walsh - Looks like a ton of fun, Meg! I am seriously thinking about doing something like this…too many people online that I’d love to meet and no guarantee that’ll ever happen!! Gotta take matters into your own hands sometimes! 🙂
I really want to learn to embroider…I am clueless, but I always love the way it looks!

amber - SO fun. Thanks for sharing, especially all the crafty fun. I’m loving the ruffle pillow too…

Heather R. - Thanks for the heads up on the shopping in Kansas. We’re in the blizzard fun, too. I don’t think the kids have gone to school in like forever. I bet you guys had a great time. Love all the crafts!!! 🙂

Peggy in TN - How much fun. New friends, old friends, far away friends. Blogging makes this big world so much smaller. Nice to see.

Courtney - looks like you all had an awesome time!
i am so going to that antique shop sometime it looks awesome! its only a 3 hour drive, i am sure i can convince my husband :)!

so much fun.

IMG_7501

i had some company this weekend.
a few friends for a few days.

some of them weren't technically friends in real life yet….but they definitely are now.

i asked some of my favorite bloggers to come to my house to make crafts, eat, shop and TALK.

it was super cool.

i loved every single one of them.

three i had never met before….and they had never met anyone else in the group.
over half of them had never met each other.
a few of them had met once.

i am confident that God has given me a blessing of meaningful friendships in this internet world .
i know that He brought women into my life that i NEVER would have met other wise.
i am so thankful for that.

we talked about blogs, kids, spouses, crafting, martha stewart, desperate housewives, photography, recipes, babies, teenagers, home decorating, frustrations, fears, successes, and about anything else you can think of.

what a fabulous group of women!

yay for blogland.

(ps….yes that is me with really dark hair now….i am not goth….i am just not blond anymore….)

Debbie - What a gift! Thank you for sharing your weekend with your amazing friends! 🙂 I found you through reading Julie’s inspiring blog and I can’t wait to check it out! Good friends, good food, good conversation, antiqueing, crafting, great fun! I’m inspired to have another craft weekend! It’s been too long! Blessings!

angie at junkgarden - Looks like fun! What a great group! I, too, wish I lived closer. I only have one other “crafty” friend and she’s been busy since going back to work. We miss our crafty get togethers.
Good times!

Nicole - Hi – found your blog through Under the Sycamore – looks like fun can’t wait to check it out! Can you share where those chandeliers are from??????

Catriona - For me, this post sums up what makes your blog unique and why I love it. The balance of words to pictures seems to capture the weekend perfectly for all of us who weren’t there and does it in a way that makes me care about the other women and feel genuine happiness for you that you had such a lovely time. That is a bit weird, given that we are never (alas!) likely to meet or even speak to each other, and yet, I am interested and I care. How amazing is that! My husband does not get it. At all. But I’m glad that I do.
(Sorry if that was a bit like a school report!! I think I had a bit of a lightbulb moment!)

Mary - You have made me so happy with these hoops – now don’t talk to me, I’ve got to run out and buy everything I need to make a thousand of them. I love them just that much. Yes I do. It looks like y’all had a fantastic time. Love seeing y’all get together and doing what you love!

michelle - SO fun!!! i wanna be on the list for next year!!! 🙂

shannan - I havent asked this question since I was 10….but can I be your friend! Holy Cow if looks like you guys had the best time ever. I love to see women hanging out and bonding like this…we all need it 🙂

Emily - Alright I’m in the market for a new sewing machine, so pretty please email me kind of machine that ruffled the pillows really well. I need that!

Margo - So jealous – looks like tons of fun!!

Linda - WHAT A FANTASTIC THING TO DO! TOTAL HAPPINESS!

Tiffany - So flipping jealous! I want to move in one of these local blogospheres. PA stinks for bloggers. Happy for u all tho.

edie - i love it. you’re so awesome. creating your own bliss.
isn’t this blogging thing just incredible? that we can meet the most wonderful, creative women in the world and then enjoy the gift of them in our daily lives.
what a privilege.
you’re right there at the top of my *i must meet* list. can’t wait.
and i got my necklace. oh my word. todiefor.
i love it so much and wore it all weekend.

i’m so blessed by you.
much love,
edie

erica - how fun! and i like the new hair color!:D

Kori - whatta buncha luckies!!!

Lori Danelle - Oh Gosh!! If I hadn’t been at Blissdom, I would be incredibly jealous! Alright, I’m still jealous!

Amnah - Cool!! Did Ashley bring Firecracker?? I hate that I don’t recognize anyone else except you two. I’m sure I know their blogs though. Can’t wait to hear more about this. There will be more, right?

Lauren - I recognize a few of those faces too! So jealous, but in a nice way 😉 I can’t wait to hear a few more details!!

Jenni Goodlin - I just found your blog (from a link from the Macs). Sounds like you had a great weekend! What a fun thing to do, and a blessing to all of those women! I love that you hadn’t all met each other, but have so much in common!

melissa @ the inspired room - How much fun was that!!!!!! I’m coming next time. {right?}

Lisa Currie-Gurney - WHAT A FABULOUS TIME IT IS WHEN WOMEN CAN GET TOGETHER AND JUST BE WHO GOD CREATED THEM TO BE!
HUGS FROM MY HEART
http://sophiemyfriend.blogspot.com/

Jennifer - I can’t wait to hear more about your weekend with your blends! I’m hoping there was some crafting and recipes! OHHHHH, i made your meatballs tonight. they are so good!

What a lovely, special weekend 🙂
By the way, I am watching Parenthood and I LOVE IT. It is fab!!!

Kate - I am so excited to recognize some of those awesome girls. Super cool!

Heather G. - So fun!!

Sharri - Meg – I am curious which face goes with which blog out here in blogland????? Would you please share? Thanks!

Cari - FUN!! Sounds therapeutic! 😉

Becki G. - Good for you!!
I know you will share more and I can’t wait to hear about it!

Brooke - Ashley Ann said she went somewhere fun this weekend…now I know…!!! I found her through your blog and I have been following both for years. I would be lying if I said that when I am at the local thrift store or yard sale I’m not looking for the perfect aqua typewriter….or that when I take pictures I’m not thinking of AA’s tips…it is silly the way you feel connected to people in blog land!! Way to take the initiative and do something awesome like that!!

Katie - Looks like fun…do tell more! I read a few of the blogs represented!

Karen Gerstenberger - I love blogging for this, and various other reasons.
There are four of us grieving moms who met through our blogs, and we are doing a Joyce Rupp book study (“Open the Door”) together. We started a private blog, we read each day’s passages and respond to the question. Then we read each other’s writings and comment. We live around the U.S.A., have different spiritual and social backgrounds, our children were all different and died differently, but it is one of the most powerful sisterhood experiences I’ve had. I feel sure that God brought us together for greater good!
Your friend at the front left in the photo is wearing one of my all-time favorite sayings. (If she wants a charm, she can get them on etsy, made from Scrabble tiles. I love mine!)

Katherine @ Grass Stains - Meg, I just read a really interesting post from a woman who went to Blissdom but has decided that next year she wants to do exactly what YOU did! If you’d like to read it, here’s the link: http://www.thesnyder5.com/2011/01/ways-in-which-blog-conferences-are-like.html … I think I’d prefer your route, too. 🙂

angela - I’ll have to admit, I thought of all of you at Blissdom while I was in NC! Every post I have seen about it is positive! I loved the video someone put on line that was a surprise to the planners of the event!

nic - what a beautiful bunch of girls…and oh how i adore your fabric floral pins!

Courtney Walsh - Looks sooo fun! 🙂 What a blast you all must’ve had. I would love to have the space to host something like this some day!!

Jen - Sooo, can you share who these lovely ladies/talented bloggers are so we can give them some traffic!??
True friends are indeed a rare blessing! The rarest, perhaps!

Beth - Awwh so much friendships bonded! Wow what a great way to share some fun and sharing with your readers also. Please share what more fun you had …I know there are lots of pictures and please share who your blogger friends so I may go visit their pages. I do see a couple of people I visit.
Please share what crafts you all made…I know you had to make something.
Oh this makes me smile! So glad you all had a great time!

Christy - Super jealous!! Can’t wait to hear more about it.

Alice H - I see Ashley Ann with Under the Sycamore!! Your hair is dark but it looks great!

Laura Phelps - BOO HOO….wish I could have made it!!! Next time…..right????? (you will have to double that batch of margaritas though)
I love the friends I have made through blogland
can’t imagine my life without them
love LOVE this group shot of FUN, creative WOMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
women who LOVE and SUPPORT and ENCOURAGE

Kathy - Love the flowers you are wearing…will there be a tutorial?

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - How great! That is wonderful! So many beautiful faces that I recognize! Woo hoo!

Leah - In your “spare time,” I’d love to see a “who’s who” as well so I can visit their blogs. I recognize Julie from Joy’s Hope, but that’s about it.

merlin - Yep, I felt the unwelcome prick of jealousy as well, but I am happy for your friendships (new and old)and fun. The world needs as much goodness in it as can be created and you all do more than your share, thank you.

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Okay, I’m not the jealous type, but have to say this makes me jealous. I would love to do something like that…I don’t think I’m brave enough. What fun you all must have had and Meg you always look adorable no matter what color your hair is 😉

April - Have to agree w/ the other’s comments and ask you to please share “who is who” and what blogs. And I hope to hear more about the weekend too! Inspiring! (need a girl’s weekend too – even if it’s vicarious!)

Di you host ALL of them overnight or just during the day.
Way fun. When you open your heart and home, the flood comes in with joy.

Amanda - DYING over here for more details!!! What an awesome awesome weekend – it’s so fun to see you all together!

Kacey - What fun! Your hair is cute. I like it brown!

Katrina - Let me guess… The blond was too high maintenece? That’s why I always end up going darker eventually. It looks good. (You remind me of my aunts now.) It looks like I would have been in heaven in your house. I read three of their blogs every day. (You and Ashley are my #1 favorites. Shh. Don’t tell any of the others.)

purejoy - i agree… link to the attendees! what a fun weekend!
i noticed your hair right away. i love it!

Christine Ishmael - so whose who?

ingrid - super fun!
this is like the all star line up….

Jessica Johnson - cute! so fun! and your hair looks fab! i’m goth, too so i’m a little bias… 😉

april's craft nest - how fun (and brave!). i have a craft night this weekend and it was fab! will you be posting what you worked on?

kat - Hey Meg, your hair looks fabulous! Your weekend looks like it was super fun! What a lucky bunch a of ladies to spend a weekend together.

Mindy Harris - WOW. that looks so, so fun. i see a few faces i recognize. i have met 2 of those girls, 3, including you. did everyone get a matching messy pin?
also, i think it’s really neat that you open your home up for others to enjoy. it’s such a beautiful home. my home is itty bitty but i still have people over, though i apologize profusely about the outdated bathroom, etc.
🙂

Kelly - Wow! What a GREAT weekend! Were you nervous when you first invited everyone. I recently invited a couple bloggers who I haven’t met in person over and was nervous that they would think I was a stalker. 🙂 All was well though! Kelly

~Debra - Can you share who each of those ladies are? I don’t recognize any of them! I am so nosy! ha ha!
Glad you all had a great time!

kristen - Let’s talk about those cute flowers you are all wearing.

Shayne - What a fun gathering! Glad you got some good girl time in. Girl time is balm for the soul. Especially when chocolate is involved in one form or another. 😉

Amanda - What a great idea. Nothing like bonding with friends. Love your hair.

Tess S. - jealous!

Tara M. - Oh my! I am jealous! I wish I could have been there! The talent that was oozing in that house this weekend!

peta - i must be reading some good blogs – i recognise lots of their faces!! how fun!

citymouse - How cool. The few times I’ve gotten together with fellow bloggers has always been a treat.

Meredith - What a perfectly wonderful way to spend the day. Well done to you all for actually organising your busy schedules to make it happen! I’m fascinated to know what Craig and the boys did while all this celebration of womanhood was happening….were they very frightened?? Meredy xo

efrat - please share some more pictures…

Gemma - Hey Meg!
Sounds like a great weekend…do you have any more pictures to share?
Loving the hair!
Gemma x

Janine - I recognize some faces in there. You’ll have to label the photo with names and links to their blogs so we can all get to know them too (through blogland anyway) Looks like a fantastic weekend!

leonieke - looks great!
what a change, from blond to black..
have a nice day! (is your house still clean after al the effort you made last week now you’ve had so much visitors?)

Victoria - What fun you must of had, and how awesome to make new friends for life! I think you look fabulous with dark hair!

Michelle from Australia - I recognise Jess in your pic. It was through my prayers for Cora that I saw your blog (I think it was some pictures she posted at some stage that had your link on it???) and started reading. And that was just after Cora died so over 2 years ago.
Thank you for inspiring me since then.
p.s. I bought myself a Vintage Pearl necklace because I could. Thank you for introducing me to them too!!

Bethany Rodriguez - What a fun group of ladies… I bet you had a wonderful time! (I like your hair color.)

answers two.

what are your favorite blogs?

here are a few of my faves in NO particular order:

julie     ashley   PW   shauna    kimberlee    nic     michelle    laura   *e*     tara    jasmine  kelle  wendy
sarah      carissa    megan    jess     elizabeth    crystal     melissa     edie    jeanne     elisa   amy
julie   heather    amy     karen     aimee    jenny      kristin    courtney     heather    marylea    emily

how is that for a list?!

how long have you lived in that house?

6 years.
we moved here when annie was 2 weeks old.
it was planned for months.
we chose to leave the "city" life (chicago-land area) and move back to small town kansas.
just 25 minutes from where both craig and i grew up.
it was one of the best decisions we ever made for our family.
we haven't regretted it once.

this house was a real project.
K13 our living room.

K10  the playroom/guest room.

K3 our kitchen.

K12 talby and annie's room.

the yard had no grass.  the walls were all wallpapered.  and it was not pretty.
but craig and i could see the potential and it had GREAT bones.
IMG_1041
and we've been working on it ever since.

who gave you the Meg quilt?

IMG_6762

my super fabulous friend PAM who took me all the way to africa.
she was so excited to give it to me shouting "IT"S THE NAME OFF YOUR BLOG!!!"
i loved that by making it she got some time to be creative for HER.
that made me as happy as the gift itself…to know that she enjoyed her sewing time while making it.
it's so cool.
pam you are an artist!

how did you find time to be creative when your kids were little?
i just did it.
i had scrapbook stuff out everywhere all the time.
i painted a dresser in the middle of my living room.
i sewed on the dining room table.
i just did it.
i couldn't NOT do it….i have to make stuff.
IMG_1195
(this was in 2008 with my scrapbooking girls)

go away with friends for a craft weekend…or have one at your house.
that was so good for my creativity and social needs when i had little ones at home.
find a retreat house near you or a rental and GO!

and sometimes…you don't even need to bring crafts.

when did you get to start sleeping through the night?

we finally got to sleep through the night on a regular basis about 2 years ago.
when annie turned four…everyone else was older and we realized we finally felt rested.
it was a 13 year stretch of rarely sleeping all night.
and we survived.
i think my bed is my favorite spot in my whole house!

IMG_6822
i love to sleep….is that bad?
what does that say about me?

what kind of lens do you use….and camera…auto or manual?

i have a Canon 50D with a 24-105 lens.
41E8q0f58VL._AA300_PIbundle-1,TopRight,0,0AA300_SH20_
i also have an 85mm lens but it's hard for me to use.  i feel i have to be VERY far away when i use it.
like shouting to the families i am shooting…but it's a good lens.

i am ready for a new lens….if i can save my money long enough!

i had a 50 mm lens but i sold it to lauren when i sold her my Canon Rebel in April.

i used a canon rebel since i started this blog until this past april….it's a great camera!

i shoot in auto focus but will be switching to manual more this year….when i can….i hope.

can you tell us your birth stories?

absolutely!
here we go…..it was 1995…..on a dark and stormy night….

just kidding.

check out these lovely photos….
IMG_6764 IMG_6768

newborn lauren in the purple hat.

<— 1998 pregnant with scott.

my birth stories are more funny than anything else.

i had epidurals with all my girls and not with my boys.
i chose to have the epidurals because it hurt more than i could handle.

IMG_6765
newborn scott.

IMG_6771
sean just born.

2000 – 10 days before sean was born.                                          talby just born.
IMG_6773 IMG_6786

my boys' labors were quick…both 5 hours total.
talby's was long (for me) and lauren and annie were induced….meaning longer HARD contractions.

i had no c-sections or horror stories of 30 hour labors or morning sickness.

i learned how to breath….on my 5th baby.
i never knew i was holding my breath during contractions.
but i was.
i never took a lamaze class….or had help from a lactation consultant…because i thought i knew it all.
and believe me….i did NOT.
chicago jen's mom was my labor and delivery nurse who taught me how to breath.  i love her.

we barely made it to the hospital with sean….that was crazy.
craig had to lie down….on the delivery room floor.
it was all just too much…happening too fast…he was light headed…and then BOOM…there was SEAN!

IMG_6787
craig and talby.

IMG_6801
one of my most favorite photos…
talby liked to be held after her naps….this day we were cuddling on the porch swing…..with baby annie crowding in on our space!

IMG_6784
2004 – my friends lisa and chicago jen were at annie's birth…..that was AWESOME!

IMG_6803  IMG_6781

talby and annie                                                                                newborn annie.

with scott and with talby i went into the hospital before i was in real labor and came back home.

i wish i would've nursed longer but i had a crazy deep down reaction after a few weeks in with all of them
that i needed some breathing room!
i just couldn't nurse any longer.
i felt smothered.
but it didn't feel that way feeding them a bottle.
the shortest i lasted nursing was 2 weeks and the longest was 6 weeks.
i always wished i was one that could have made it a long time….but i wasn't.

are you going to stay home now that your kids are in school?

i sure hope so.
i have my photography business and this blog and the etsy shop to provide income so YES i will be staying home….if you can even call that staying home….because really….that is a lot of work!

what does craig do for a living?

he is a commercial banker.
and he looks good in a suit.
mmm-hmmm.

do you have any advice on raising teenagers?

pray.
stay consistent.
try not to yell or engage in arguments.
find a close friend to share your feelings, frustrations and fears with…don't hold back.
talking about things you are dealing with out loud makes a HUGE difference in how you feel.
with a trusted friend you can share ideas, get advice or let them show you a new angle of parenting.
it's safe.

that is all i have learned so far…..

was your house in a magazine?

not pictures but linda featured me as a Blogger in Flea Market Style in 2010.
Scan 110090000
and there was a blurb in Country Living in 2009 called My Country Life
Photo 1763

do you have a kindle….do you like to read….what is your favorite book?

we got sean a kindle for christmas but i don't have one.
nor would i want one.
i am not a reader.
i wish i was….
my dad and my sister are crazy about books.
sean, lauren and talby are in love with reading.
i don't have the ability to concentrate that long.
i did read "A Long Way Gone" last year before going to africa and it was fascinating.

A_long_way_gone_000

and so sad….and traumatic.
i think it was made so much more real because i went to that exact place the next week.
and met boys who would have been that same age.
it was a life changing book to me.

and of course….Crazy Love.

why do you workout in an assisted living facility?
🙂
i live in a small town.
i drive to a different really small town to workout because the gym there is nicer….and less expensive.
you can buy a membership there because it's the only place in that community as far as i know.

i like it because i am the youngest…it's REALLY quiet…and it's almost always nearly empty.
the machines have tv sound with headphones and i can watch will & grace on lifetime and no one cares.
or regis and kelly!

SuperStock_1773R-18462
(this is not at my gym…this is a stock photo from google images…and these people look way more active than at my gym 🙂

if you want to feel strong and fast and young….workout at a retirement center!
seriously…it's helpful mentally.

——————————————————————————————–
WOW that was a really long post!
——————————————————————————————–

Angelo - I honestly can say i hate apple. i gueartne its a bunch of old dudes that just don’t understand.who ever buys this thing is mentally challenged. Its a bigge i touch. THATS IT.a few more features.im gonna say though, congratz on the iphone. but your next 10 products don’t need to be the exact same shit. its old. for fucks sake -.-

ann foster - have you read the blog
http://www.growing4.blogspot.com??
she seems like someone you might enjoy. i do.
love yours!!!everytime i read it.

ellen patton - Thanks for sharing some favorite blogs. I already read some of them but am happy to add a few more good ones to my reader.

Stephanie Howell - I just want to say i adore you. And you are fabulous. That is all.

amy d - ahh thanks neighbor…
you could’ve put all you kids baby pictures up with no names and i could still be able to tell which ones are which…they all look so much like their baby pics. i love all the different hair do’s through the years!

Shannon - That pic of Lauren was the same one you sent right after she was born. I can remember thinking she was so beautiful and I couldn’t wait to have my own.

Liz - Aw Meg! I’m so flattered to be listed w/ your favorite blogs. Seriously! What a treat first thing in the morning! And congrats for having your playroom shown on Lettered Cottage, you deserve it! I’m trying really hard to use that pic as a jumping off point for the nursery. 🙂

Linda - Great post! Love the before pictures! I would love to see like an old blueprint of your house. I have always just been in love with old Victorian styled homes. Thanks for the home tour! Awesome!

Sarah - Thank you thank you thank you. I am flattered seriously. And I loved seeing your pregnancy pictures. You look so cute.

Lorri - I have a sweet little Annie, too! Loved reading your blog tonight.

rebecca - these are my favorite blog posts that you do!! because everyone’s life is so interesting and different… i hope you don’t ever feel like the posts are too long, boring or self-focused. because i love them!!

Julie - I will never be able to fully appreciate the awesome awfulness that once was totally matching wallpaper and fabric in the guest/playroom. When the curtains were closed… it must have looked like a windowless make believe funhouse. To think that was chosen on purpose. For lots of money. That the owner was excited. Wow. Just wow. The good old days!!!!! Can’t believe how much you guys have done in six years. That is crazytown!!!

Jaime - Love your honesty in all your posts and I got teary eyed looking at all your “baby” pics. Beautiful. What a blessing it is to be a mom, and it goes too quickly.

Emily - thank you for your blog… you inspire me…

Brooke - It is so weird to read about someones life for over two years….everyday….and not know them. But to be honest, meg, if I saw you on the street, I think you would be so concerned. Because I would walk up to you and talk to you about talby and annie and sean and lauren….we would talk about craig and how he reminds me of my hubby (minus the banker), how I hope to stay home with my kids and continue blogging, create an etsy and continue to pursue photography, etc, etc, etc.
SO, here’s hoping to you never seeing me on the streets, since I live in Georgia. I love the dining room. It looks SUPER cute!

Elizabeth - I loved this post and never comment but had to on this one because I enjoyed it so much:) I’m so impressed with the transformations you have made on the house – SO Lovely! You wrote you “chose to leave the “city” life (chicago-land area) and move back to small town kansas” and we are currently seeking to do this same thing! We live in the Philadelphia area and are anxious to relocate near southwestern PA to be close to my husbands family and where he grew up. We’re having a heck of a time getting considered for jobs though since we are out of the area. Any tips on how you made the move happen?!? Would LOVE to hear them! I hope by the time my son starts school (he’s 2 1/2 now) to be near family in a permanent home:)

andrea - Love the q and a!
Do share more house pictures! I love seeing before and after and I get so much inspiration from you!! Love this blog, Meg!

Carol S. - Love the porch picture with Talby, sooooo sweet. Miss those snuggles! Great answers.

No.17 CherryTreeLane - the pictures of you pregnant and of the babies made me tear up. time moves so fast….

Mallory - I love what little I saw of your scrapbooks! Do you think you could post a couple layouts? I am always looking for inspiration. Love your blog!

HEATHER R. - I think I can see where you look like that Dixie Chick near Annie’s birthday. I love the pics of the house. I bet you know the best way to take down wallpaper, huh? 🙂

Sarah - love these answer posts! Fun fun! Great pics! Can we still ask questions??? LOL If so, have you ever posted pics of your chicago house? And, any plans for the awesome upstairs room??? That room is “BEAST”. HA!

amy jupin - meg, your birth stories and pictures are adorable. you look so young (and freckled and sun-kissed) and so in love with each of your babies. i couldn’t stop smiling and giggling, looking at you all preggo and the sweet newborn pics.
and my, oh my, how your home has changed! i never really knew how much work you guys did to change it. the house seemed so dark and chopped up before. now it looks so bright and spacious–what a transformation!
i loved this post. i’m thinking others did too. thank you for taking the time to do this. you have a generous, giving heart. 🙂

shauna reed - i love these answering questions posts….you might think they are dumb, but they aren’t. they are fun. makes me feel like i really know you in real, non internet life.

Kristin S - Loved this answers post too!
I work out at a “wellness center”. Today we are waiting for a snow/ice storm to roll in so I’m working from home. Anticipating closing of the gym early, I decided to head over around 10am to exercise. Totally forgot that cardiac rehab was going on. I was the youngest there by 30 years this morning. Since I normally go after work or late in the evening, this was a whole new world!
But at least it isn’t a meat market.
Love your stories Meg. AND you look younger now than 1995!

princess lasertron - cool answers 🙂 your babies are so adorable.

Shar - Great post. You are so pretty and photogenic. Even in pregnancy! Thanks for sharing…

Dana@Bungalow'56 - I’ve already checked out some of your fav blogs even before reading the post. Thanks a bunch. I think I will also check out my Nana’s retirement home. Your last bit of advice made me smile. I need to start hanging around seniors more for sure.
Dana

Heather - Oh,your pregnancy and newborn pictures made me cry! Thanks for sharing pieces of your life 🙂

Kari - wow! sometimes i read your blog and i feel like i’m reading a lot about myself…. i have the same haircut, felt the same way about nursing my kids, just recently we sold our FR furniture and put in a 3-in-1 table and a foos ball table. i just wish i could get my husband to work on our 70s house like your husband works on yours 🙂 he does fix cars though – he can do brakes and everything – just doesn’t like home projects so much. oh well! snow day here in nebraska – enjoy your day!

Ashlyn@pinecone - I really love what you have done with your house. Seeing the before to now is pretty amazing.
Have a fab day,
Ashlyn

crystal beutler - Cool post. Man, you worked magic with your house. I would never know by looking that those pictures it was the same house in your blog. You guys must have worked like dogs!!! Dogs!!!! Thanks for the shout out friend. I have to say “right back at you!” You are one of my favorites too. I always end up inspired when a stop here. 🙂
x0 crystal
p.s. I’m counting on your for Spark. I’ll give you a heads up when I hear about registration.

RLG - You look fourteen (in the picture at the hospital with Annie)!
Fun post, Meg. xoxo

Maine Mummy - Wow. “i needed some breathing room! i just couldn’t nurse any longer. i felt smothered.” My baby is 16 months old and I have never been able to appropriately sum up what I felt – maybe for fear of being judged. Thank you. Knowing that someone else felt that is amazingly liberating!

Shana - I knew Pam made that! It was screaming of her.
Forgot how much work the house has been.
Don’t think I’ve ever heard any birthing stories.
Fun.

Carla G. - Wow! I’ve missed these two days and really enjoyed catching up!! As I sit here in my quiet house, thinking about what I want to do today, it was delightful to get to know you better!! Thanks so much for everything!!

michelle - Your explanation for working out at the assisted living facility is HILARIOUS! Great blog!

Anna - WOW! I’ve never seen such beautiful “I just gave birth” photos EVER. So beautiful. I was bloated and had multiple chins after I gave birth to my babies (and I was never brave enough to post them!)
Congratulations on your beautiful family and beautiful home.

Gemma @ Musings of a gem - Hi Meg!
Wow looking at the transformation on your home is AMAZING! The pictures just look so stressful but your home now looks so welcoming : )
It’s great that you’ve got your own business type thing..inspiring!!
Gemma x

Kori - Thank you for answering our questions…it’s very cool of you. You seem like a fun chick and I feel like getting to ‘know’ you this way is better than not getting to know you at all.
Does that make sense?? Hope so.
🙂

Jeanne - You are the sweetest!!! Thank you for including me. One of my friends just told me. I LOVED seeing the photos of you and your babies…YOU looked like a baby too!!!!

Michele - Thank you for sharing! Your advice about raising teenagers was so wonderful and helpful for me to read. Thank you!

Amy - You are a beautiful woman, Meg. You have lovely eyes.
It is really fun reading all your answers. I LOVE your home, before and after. You have/had great vision to get it to where you are today.
LOVE the pregnancy and baby pictures. Makes me wish I were pregnant again. Then again, I’m enjoying having my body to myself for the first time in 6 years. lol.
Can’t wait to read the rest of your answers.

Allison - Thanks for answering all these questions. And wow, you looked fabulous right after having your babies!

Jenny B. - Meg, you are so fun! 🙂 I can’t wait to check out all your favorite blogs. And you look amazing in all your hospital pics!

bobbie - I love all the baby pictures, so sweet.
I blogged about why God gave women creativity today and then I read your post and it just confirmed it to me that I need to keep making time to be creative. thanks 😉

jessicakiehn - this is great! You guys are totally made for each other to be on the same page and tackle that house together. And look what’s come of it! That’s a beautiful thing.
LOVE your maternity pics from the scrapbooks. You’re like me, you’re belly gets HUGE! None of this “can’t even tell you’re pregnant” going on.
And the picture of you and Talby on the porch swing, pregnant with Annie is literally one of the most beautiful pictures I’ve ever seen. I deeply love motherhood and pregnancy and this so beautifully captures both.

joni - I’m loving these posts!
I’m a new reader and was wondering is Lauren not your biological daughter?

Libby - Thank you, thank you for your refreshing honesty! Your sense of humor and zest for life make for some fun reading. And what a good reminder – if I want to tackle some projects NOW, even while the kids are little – I just need to do it. Enough already! 🙂

Joyce - wow- you are gorgeously big with your babies! I got belly on my knees big with #3- wondering what this one will be- although Im tiny so far!
Thank for sharing your answers 🙂

Ryanne - I soooo needed this post for several reasons. Especially about sleep, raising young ones and needing time for yourself. I absolutely loved that photo of you and Talby on the porch swing, it made me want to cry. Too sweet. Would you ever come to KC to do photos? How far is Newton from KC?

emily anderson - so, i feel like when i start a comment here, i need to always either begin it, or end it with “whatever”…
so, thanks for putting me on your bloggy list. whatever.
(oh, and i love your prego pics 🙂 )

Risa - Megan,
My mom said she talked to you at Amy’s wedding and that you said I should comment sometime. So here I am. I ADORE your blog . . . I think it’s all the house pictures I love best, so I extra-loved this post with the pre-reno shots =) And I’m loving these “answers” installments!

Jess - Love the old family pictures. “Little Talby” is so cute. That picture of the two of you on the porch swing is just perfect.

hayley - 1. you look absolutely beautiful in the pics right after having those babes.
2.i have been up forever watching HIMYM. it’s 4:30am here in germany. i haven’t slept. hilarious, and addicting.
3. thanks for posting up those blog chicas. i love kelle. i’ll have to creep the others tomorrow.
thanks for always having such great posts 🙂

Holly - I have a stack of photos from when we first bought our house that I need to scan. We have been here for almost 5 years and like yours we saw its potential. It also has good bones!

Heidi Hentze - Hi Megan, Thanks so much for sharing! It’s always such a treat to read about your life because of the spirit, energy and goodwill you bring to all you do. I stop by most everyday to experience a little of your world. Your photos tell such a story, you have a gift for capturing all the small moments that constitute the goodness that life can be; and is. I think it is very generous of you to spread the joy; thanks:)

Flower Patch Farmgirl - 1. I love sleep.
2. I LOVE Courtney. So happy to see her on your list!
3. Those wallpaper stripping photos make me cringe. That has been the story of my residential life.

sara@augustfields - that was a long post! it was GREAT! thanks for the fun read and encouragement 🙂

Colleen - I just listed your blog as one of my favorite blogs on MY blog! Lol!

sarah w. - that picture of you on the swing pregnant with annie, holding talby is beautiful. Perfect. Heart melting.

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - I love sleep, too 🙂 It makes me happy. Bri gave me a one hour nap today AND did some work for me. It was the best thing he could have done ever. I love sleep. Amen.

kendal - had no idea one could work out at a retirement facility. and i read a long way gone recently. loved it. (i’m a reader, so i read numerous books on africa recently when i moved from 8th grade to 7th to teach social studies.) your blog is fun!

Michele - I really liked learning more about you. I like your everyday posts, but I enjoy the Q&A, too. I’ve been wondering about your camera and lenses and now I know. I think it’s too funny that you work out with the geriatrics. So great! Thanks for sharing!

sue - Well Meg ,you have done it again. A great blog to read and I think you answered my question on what camera and lens do you use. Thankyou.

Vera - I’ve been stepping away from my computer a little lately to spend more time with the kids, so that means skimming blogs on Google Reader instead of opening them… BUT I had to come here and tell you that you look SO amazingly beautiful and radiant is every single one of those after-birth pictures!

Sandy - I love what you’ve done to your home and hadn’t realized it’s all been within the past 6 years. You’ve done an amazing job!

melissa @ the inspired room - Oh I just love seeing all your pictures of your house when you first bought it. It makes me feel like a less insane person for the last house we owned, you just had to have vision! Your house is so gorgeous, it just needed your magic touch to bring that out.
And your pregnant photos! LOL! I don’t think I’ll be sharing mine any time soon. You are a brave woman, and so darn adorable.
Ok so seriously, if you hadn’t put me in your list of favorite blogs you’d have been in trouble. 😉 Thank you Meg.
Happy night!

what i learned at coca-cola…..

is probably not what they thought i would.

come read about it over here.

Juli - I left a comment “over there” too but you just don’t how God may have used you at Coke too. There may be some women who were seriously questioning whether they should return to work after a baby, others who are frazzled working Moms not thinking about their impact at home. It is beautiful to see a Mom satisfied “just” being a Mom in this day & age.

Kellie - Thank you Meg! We all need a quiet reminder!

kelsey i - Loved your post today. Thought you would like this great idea for some globes!
http://blackeiffel.blogspot.com/2010/11/globe-chandelier.html

april - Thats great!!! You work so hard to be a good mom…..a trip away and the recognition is awesome!! Good for you!!! <3

Sharee - I wanna say a big AMEN! to your vision and your witness of God’s purpose for us mothers and wives to the blog world. I think it’s so easy to get wrapped up in feminist views of the world and forget that is GOD’s will we need to live for daily. You inspire me and I will pray that God continues to use you in mighty ways for HIs Glory as a momma! from an at home Christian momma:)

Holly - Perfectly said. I’m sure you did a wonderful job the first time too.

craft thursday #3

IMG_3695
IMG_3692
the kids were very excited to do this project.
annie requested we wait until she got home from her friend's home to start craft thursday.
we did.
and we gained another friend for craft thursday.

IMG_3709
today's project was from Deep Space Sparkle
another fabulous blog FULL of great art for children.

they drew castles.
first with pencil then sharpie.
then painted with watercolor.

IMG_3713
IMG_3721
they were very detailed.
talby said "i think this is the best picture i have ever made…i am going to hang it in my room!"

sean kept saying "mine is made out of brimstone!"
??
i don't know if that is a real thing….or just from stories?
ha.

IMG_3719
genius!
a rainbow castle!
pure dreaminess.
and of course she said "i am going to give it to ms. kristin!"

IMG_3727
did you notice i don't require shirts for craft thursday?

IMG_3735
annie's castle with drawbridge.
the most colorful castle ever to be made…i am sure of it.
(oh…i drew her sun and hills for her because she asked me to)

IMG_3738
sean's castle.
he worked so long on the drawing…the shade moved off the table and he was getting hot.
he had a friend over and was ready to swim…so he didn't quite finish.
but i like his red dragon sneaking in the right side.

IMG_3736
talby's castle…sitting in the sunny snowcapped mountains…with a speedboat in her moat.

i loved this craft.
i wished i had made one too.
but the table was full.

happy weekend everyone.
i'll be back on monday!

mel - I meant craft thursday! lol

mel - Ok so your are the most amazing talented coolest mom EVAH! I am so going to start Craft Tuesday! Your kids are so talented…cant wait to start!
xoxo

Tonya - You inspire me to be a better mom. I’m going to implement a craft day into our week. How fun! And with friends? Even more fun!!

amber - those castles are awesome! way better than I could ever do

amy d - hahaha… i love talby’s motorboat!

Staci Danford - What wonderful fun… and memories they will cherish much longer than we will know.. My “big” kids are always telling me things that they loved and they remember them with such detail.. so many times I have not one single clue about what they are saying…but I sorta feel like I wasn’t a heel of a mother. haha Your kids will treasure so much these summer days full of art and a loving MOM.
Staci

Tanya H - Perfect! Thank you!!! I am looking for ideas! 🙂

jasmine bailey-barfuss - Look at these gorgeous creations! So beautiful, so individual! Must do this also 🙂 Call me the big copycat ha ha… Now we just need the rain to flipping stop here! What is this Utah weather at the moment, gal!

Melanie - I am enjoying Craft Thursday. It looks like so much fun. Have a good weekend.

Alicia Butler - Thanks for sharing the blog address. This is the lady (Pam’s friend that called you this week.)
Any other blog addresses?
Blessings.

Thea - AWESOME craft! We will be doing this tomorrow…”craft Saturday!!”…LOL

Heather - i love seeing how each one turns out so different even though they start with the same theme. really fun!

Julie - Those are WONDERFUL! All castles have their own personality; these certainly do too. 😉

MomBE - do you see the skull in annies painting?

Cindy Albert - I saw the animal crackers in the first picture and was waiting for them to come into play…I kept thinking “will they paint them, glue them? Really, jungle animals in a castle scene?” Cute craft.

Jocelyn Stott - Those are FANTASTIC paintings! I love them. Great photos as well and I loved the animal crackers in that picture – it took me right back to childhood.

Leah - I love that website! I have a craft that you might like. It’s an easy and less messy was to do tye dye shirts! We did it at homework club with the kids and they LOVED it!
http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiment/00000032

Christy - These are fantastic! You definitely have some budding little artist in your house, love it! Love how Annie’s castle has a “face” to it, not sure if that was intentioanl, but I love it.

Juli - Any craft that features a giant jar of animal cookies on the table has got to be fun!

the wild raspberry - you would be an awesome homeschool mom!!

Amber - maybe you have posted this elsewhere…but are you buying special watercolors? the color your kids are getting out of them are amazing. granted i generally buy the cheaper watercolors…but my kids pictures always look watered down. (maybe cause they’re 2 & 4 and haven’t mastered water colors yet!)

Patty - Your kids did a great job with their castles! It looked as though they really enjoyed the process, sticking with it and adding all those special details. Well done!

Gemma - I love it! I love water colours! I love rainbow castles! I love your blog 😀
Gemma X

tara pollard pakosta - I just saw this craft in an art book I bought, I think that’s where I saw it anyway LOL!
LOVE IT!
GREAT artists! WE are doing Art every Thursday this summer too, thanks for the motivation!!!!!!!!!!
took pix to put up too and have to do that today!
tara

Staci - Seriously….those are some SUPER drawings!!!!!! Frameable FOR SURE!!!!!! Awesome! I can’t draw worth a hoot….so I am super impressed by the imaginations of your kids 😉

angela conklin - I want to come to craft Thursday! You do really fun things with your kids. I hope when they are mad at you, they remember these days!

www.Kellyloves.wordpress.com - oh, i forgot how much i love watercolors!!
http://www.kellyloves.wordpress.com

Beth - I love that and I love Deep Space Sparkle too!! She has such good ideas. That is very cool that you are committed to doing art with your kids each week! That is one of the last things I told my classes the last week of school — have a good summer, DO ART, go to the art museum in Wichita(it’s free on Saturdays!!!)and also the Carriage Factory gallery in Newton. You rock.

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - Those are great. I’m off to check out that site:)

Kathi - I am loving your Craft Thursdays! Wish I had thought of this when DD was younger. She was quite the little artist and I could have challenged her more. Alas, now she’s a teen and I get, “art, Mom? really?” along with rolled eyes, a huffy puff, and a quick exit. I dream of the phone call in a few years begging for help!

Tara - love this…gonna copy cat you again and make my kids do it!

Sophie - Such a cute craft and all the kids did so well! (:
Though I expect it’d be just as fun for us adults as it was for them!
