new sign.

so…. before this post you should listen to this song… Home by Edward Sharp.

maybe open it in another window and litsen to it while you read.

ok.

songs is on… ready to go?

we moved to this little farm house rental in march.
it's cozy and we love it here.
in case you don't know our back story or forgot…. we moved to be in smaller community, closer to our kids' school and to use the other house for craft weekends.  it was such a big decision but has been nothing less than awesome.

our bedroom at the (now) Craft House was a ridiculously LARGE room.
it made no sense to have a bedroom that big…it was GIANT.
but of course we also got very used to that size of room after 7.5 years.
and now our bedroom is more of normal to smallish size and has also taken some readjusting too.

IMG_0912-1

and it's just fine.

we got our bed when we first moved to the craft house.
and craig has said several times "i can't believe you haven't painted it yet"

someday….
but who has time for that? not me right now.
and it's fine how it is.

IMG_0954-8

we have my grandmother's night stands that she had in her bedroom my whole life.
she always had her rotary dial phone where i have my computer.  :)
the bottom part pulls out to give more space or tucks in if you don't want it.
mine is always out and filled with junk… over flowing onto the floor and all around.
while's craig's is tucked in with nothing on or around it.

that is such a true picture of US.

🙂

IMG_0936-4
we have room for one dresser in the corner and we each have a closet.
i decided to hang my jewelry on the wall because there is no other place and because it's pretty.

my jar of heart rocks…such a fun collection over the all the years of motherhood.
my "be intentional" art work was several years ago by Jeanne Oliver.

IMG_0932-3

what got me determined to take care of our room and make it a priority after 9 months of not…
even though it's a rental…
was because of this sign from Between You & Me…. with the lyrics from a song that remind me of our decision to move and take crazy steps to do what we needed for our family.
as we tried to make those big decisions last spring that song was on the radio at all the right times.
and i would smile and know that we were doing the right thing.

all we needed was each other.
no matter where we lived… we were HOME.

so i hung the sign first and then worked around it with pictures of us over the last 21 years.

we have been married for 18 years but dated for three years before we got married.

this print from Studio Mela was the perfect touch.

IMG_0974-1
the butterfly pillows are at target right now.
they needed to live at the farm too.

IMG_0969-11
pictures from our first prom, our wedding, our favorite vacations, our 10 year anniversary trip and family pictures all hang here.
this is a special wall.

it's sacred ya know?

marriage is a really big deal.
you vow to stay together FOREVER.
until you die.
so… it really should be honored and cherished and nutured.
surrounding us with reminders of where we came from, who we are and are becoming is one way to do that.

IMG_0975-13

between You & Me has a pretty shop filled with signs you will love!

if you go to her shop and use the code WHATEVER you will get 10% off your purchase in january.

that is awesome!!

tara YOU are awesome.

so… go look it over and find the sign that would spark some creativity in your home.

yay for discounts!

yay for rockin' hot marriages!

yay for teeny farm house bedrooms!

🙂

lindsie - Can you please te me what the name is of the green paint in your room…I love it…lindsielou@charter.net

Su@TheIntentionalHome - can’t wait to check out the song. . .my hubby and my song. . the song we danced to at our wedding is You’re My Home by Billy Joel. . .same thought that wherever he is and we are together is home. . .I wrote a post titled 10 Quotes to Inspire You to Create a Home You Love. . reminds me of this post cause #10 is the Billy Joel song. # 9 is a Be Intentional piece of art I made. . .thought you might like to check out the other quotes: http://www.susoutter.com/2012/03/10-quotes-to-inspire-you-to-create-home.html

misty - Loved every word of this blog post. It made me teary eyed, in a good way. I love to hear about peoples love stories & love to hear about GOOD marriages and hear others talk about marriage being sacred. AMEN.
Your room is so pretty. I just loved every single picture. Thanks you for posting this.

Brooke - Love your cozy little room…and your fun wall!! Love that you cherish your marriage. Life is hard sometimes…you have to turn to your husband. Love your art. Super cute.

April R - /\ Ditto katy

Heidi Jo the Artist - Perfect song for this post and for every family! And congrats for staying strong in your marriage through 18+ years! I love to know couples that are still married and have stuck to their vows. Sadly, my husband and I have known so many that haven’t… Love all the pillows and pretty quilt on your bed too, and of course the jewelry displayed on the wall is the bomb. 🙂

Rach - I’m with Craig… I’m surprised you haven’t painted it either. Gorgeous wall. I have one like that too that I treasure and yes, marriage is sacred. I always try to put it first.

Tonya - Love the post….and the quilt on the bed 🙂

Jen - We just decided to take a leap of faith and move to be closer to my husband’s family. We have had a terribly difficult year due to some things that happened between the neighbor boys and our daughters. I have been back & forth on if this is the right decision…my husband built this house we live in and this is HOME. I so needed to read this post today. I will be purchasing that same sign you have in your bedroom. I think it’s a must have for our next HOME. Thank you for the inspiration, Meg!

Corey Bugni - I love this post and the ideas! thanks Meg! I am also crying because I love the butterfly pillows and Target doesn’t seem to carry the same ones anymore. If you have a link to where they are, I would love it!! Have a great weekend.
Corey

Alisha - I LOVE IT!!! You’ve just inspired me. We live in an OLD farmhouse rental as well and our room is just like yours. VERY small and quaint, but just enough. I haven’t done ANYTHING with it because, well, I just didn’t know WHAT to do with it, but I love your ideas of the pictures of the two of you. …and your jewelry knobs. It’s great!

Jenn - THAT SONG… One of my favorites. It played during our dear friend’s funeral slide show last year and every time I hear it I get this crazy mix of joy and sadness at the same time. But definitely more joy for a life well lived with the ones we love!! Very cool print. I love all the photos around it!

Michelle - LOVE. the song, the artwork, the story…everything.
I met my future husband when I was 11 (he was and still is my brother’s best friend), we started dating when I was 15, and we got married when I was 18. Here we are now 18+ years later, and I am still thankful that I get to spend everyday of my life with this man. Thanks for the reminder. It’s inspiring to read of others who have “rockin’ hot marriages.” And you’ve inspired me to finally print out and display some of our favorite pics together, create my own “love” wall.

Dani - I needed this today. My husband and I are making a huge decision about our marriage right now. I don’t want to give up 15 years of marriage and your post just showed me that!
Thank you, MEG!!!

Shelly - Love.Love.Love this post!!! It’s beautiful, inspirational, heart-warming, and sooooo full of love. Thank you! And, I couldn’t help but notice your “Not A Fan” book. Kyle is my preacher. That sermon series was AWESOME!!!! The book is AWESOME!! Kyle is a very special, God-filled human being!!

Tracy Fisher - you said exactly how i feel today. loved your words. and by the way, you and craig have the same side table characteristics and greg and i have… his has a clock and a remote… mine has my life on a bedside table. made me giggle. have a great day. -tracy

katie - what a great idea…i’m inspired to do the same!

Mickie Lara - LOVE everything about this post. The emphasis on family, marriage (and you are always good to remind me about that… we are 21 years too) and home. I tend to get a little too hung up on the house part of the home but you are so right. It is really just wherever we are. Love it!

Jen - Yea for rockin’ hot marriages is right!

Penny - Whenever I refer to something on this blog, I will say to my family, “You know Meg, who has Waffle…” Ha!

Lori Austin - Your bedroom is perfectly perfect.
Love your grandmother’s side table.
This space just seems so happy. 🙂

Amanda Brown - This post is inspirational because I just started working on an art collage for our bedroom! Being married is the BEST, even in difficult times…

Kim Barlow - I know this blog is not about curse words but..girl…you kick a**. XO

Penny - We have been married 29 years and we have lived in small apartments, a mobile home, a very tiny house with three children and then a bigger house. Every single place we lived I made it our home. No matter if we were renting, buying or what. It was our home. And I will tell you I have been happy at every single place we have lived. Now of course I dreamed of our own home when we were renting. I dreamed of a house when we were in that moblie home. But I was happy every place we lived. Now that we have a larger home with lots of space our girls are growing up and moving on. Isn’t that the way life is! Some of the happiest memories I have are the days with our three little girls in our tiny little rental!

Angela A - Oh Meg, the room is beautiful. The decor is so you, the colors are awesome together, and it is such an awesome tribute to your marriage. Thank you for inspiring us to celebrate our own marriages! This year is our 15th anniversary, and we dated for 7 years before that. Our room is sort of us–but you’ve given me some ideas on something to do to honor this special anniversary.

Tiffany - “yay for rockin’ hot marriages!”… You’re too cute! I’m so glad you are both blessed with eachother. Thanks for the reminder about putting marriage first. With two little ones and full time jobs I need reminders often since there are so many other things to do. My hubby and I need to go on more dates.
It was fun seeing a snapshot of your home now. Darling. 🙂

happygirl - I always wondered how the Craft House came to be. I love your wall of memories. I’ve been married 30 years. I agree with the forever of marriage. 🙂

Angie - I totally now want my jewelry displayed on the wall!

lauren - i already knew you were a woman after my own heart…then i saw the ragamuffin gospel on your book pile…amen. i was about to tell my daughter something i read or saw on your blog the other day and i started to say, “my friend….i mean…on this blog i read…” you have a gift for drawing people in and then you give good, real stuff for them see. i may never meet you but i’m sure you’re a great friend.

stephany @ home is what you make it - I listen to this song over and over on repeat. Did it today while running errands with my little girl.
My cousin and his new wife had this song playing as the song after their wedding ceremony on the shores of a lake in Northern Idaho. My favorite uncle, who owns the house and officiated the ceremony, danced up the stairs with my aunt and had tears in his eyes.
Anyway, great song, great memories, great post.
Thanks for sharing!

melodee - wow! your room is great! love all of the details and your always so nice and crisp photos….and your necklace collection…to die for!

Carol S. - Super sweet post. We hit 25 in April. And made a major move this year (from Chicago of all places!) This hits home. Thanks Meg.

Sarah{Handbags*N*Pigtails} - Hmmmm…I sort of love this post… ALOT:) I’m a big fan of investing in marriage. So often the kids come along and we focus solely on them, kind of neglecting our spouse. But when the kids grow and leave its back to just the two of you. I want to cherish my hubby more then than I did on our wedding day. Marriage is so hard and yet one of the best gifts God ever created. Your room is a tribute to that. Thanks for reminding us all:)

katy - favorite. post. ever.
love the music as a background.
love. love. love.

Jacci in Ohio - YYYAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🙂
I am SO thrilled you posted photos of the farmhouse! It is PERFECT. So perfectly you! Different… in such a different home… but so you. And that is why I *love* it. And I love your sign. And your voice for marriage.
God has made you rad, rad, rad.

Charly - I smiled throughout the entire song! I now want my hubby to come home so we can dance to it in the living room with a three year old and two dogs running Around us! AND, your bedroom looks great!

Mary - i love how you went with what you had and just made it so, so, so special.
sometimes i just feel like i have to wait until the walls are painted…or the bedding is just right, but NOW is the time to cherish.
now is the time to celebrate.
you’re so good at celebrating the NOW, meg.
i adore that about you.
and i LOVE taras work.
on my list. for sure.
now i want to spruce up our room!
xo

Kerstie Pederson - Yay for you too! 😉 I love your blog!!!!

Aimee - I love, love, love this post. And it’s all so do-able and accessible. Very inspiring.

Mary Jo - I love the butterfly pillows!

Shara - Thanks so much for sharing Meg!! You’ve totally inspired me(along with countless others~) to do something like this. The walls in my bedroom are begging me!

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - i love that you have reminders of how precious marriage is. the butterflies had me at hello and that artwork is awesome! love tara. very sweet. wondering about the rest of the room. a past christmas present comes to mind;)

tonya - love this post…and the song! i keep our bedroom free of pictures of the kids…just pictures of me and my man!

tara - marriage is a REALLY big deal.
It is sacred. It if FOREVER.
I love the wall of you and your man, and I love that the sign is a reminder of something God has done in the life of your family with the move to the farm house.
you’re awesome. thanks for hanging one of our signs in your home!

Marsha Kern - I love your room and your style, it is perfect! We live in the country too and we love it!

Kristin S - I absolutely love your room! The wall is perfect. I love that you have that prom photo on there. Good reminders of God’s faithfulness.
And now I’m considering simple row of hooks for my necklaces! I forget what I have and end up wearing the same things over and over.
Beautiful, Meg.

Kristina Abel - So funny that you have that sign. My girlfriend and I made wood signs and that’s what I’m putting on mine and hanging in my living room. Thanks for sharing you colorful and cozy room. 🙂

shelby - I need a chenille bedspread like that! My grandma always had them on the twin beds I slept in at her house!

Bopha - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L64c5vT3NBw Please tell me you have watched this! This is where I first heard the song and fell in love. This rendition melts my heart. Love your “love” inspired room-that’s the way a bedroom should look!

Lisa - Hi Meg
I usually don’t comment on your blog because you get SOO many, and I’m not always sure you even see them all, but today I want to.
This post has inspired me. Why is it that once you have kids all the photos are just about kids and family (please understand I adore my kids!!!). My husband and I have bee married for almost 28 years and I still feel sometimes like we are the 17 year olds when we first started dating. I WANT A SPECIAL LOVE WALL like you, and so I shall now have one ;). Thank you!!

Kerry - oh meg…… i’ve read the post 3 times with the song playing in the background. feeling really emotional right now – what a beautiful post. this is JUST what I needed right now. Thank you so much xxx

ann - Meg your room is so adorable, cozy, and full of your personality! Love it all. You are right, marriage is a sacred thing to be honored and treasured. Great post! Hugs from Chicagoland, Ann

Abbie Swartzentruber - Ok Meg, you got me hooked on the butterfly pillows – but I can’t find them anywhere at target.com??? I am gonna have to go searching for them – your room turned out cozy and sweet:)!!

mary - your room is beautiful…you have that decorating gene, that can pull together any place and make it visually pleasing.

ali moll - I love this post Meg! And I love the room! The pics and sign are the perfect finishing touch. You have such a knack for decorating – I LOVE YOUR STYLE! Have a fabulous day! Hugs!

beki - you’re awesome 🙂

jennt - i LOVE you room! It is so vibrant and happy but also so cozy
I am always stumped with what to do with our bedroom…..

lisa - So sweet! Love it. And I love your rocks. I have a jar from my girls, too. I wrote about it here if you’re interested. 🙂 Funny how something as basic as a rock can be so special!
http://thebrighterside-lisa.blogspot.com/2011/10/my-rocks.html

Lennie Jackson - You make me want to redo our bedroom! Great post….I LOVE the prom pic!!!!

danielle - This made me want to stop what I am doing and go make an art wall in my bedroom of my husband and I! Totally doing this! I keep a big landscape above our bed taken on our first getaway from the boys but I would love this also! Beautiful room!

ranee - loved this post and that wall is beautiful! you have inspired me to start a “love wall” of my own!

Juli - Awesome. Yes, that bed begs to be deep teal. 😉

Angela - Thank you for choosing to declare the truth – marriage is precious and WORTH IT. I have only been married for 2.5 years, but I am thankful for the examples that God has surrounded me with – people I know (My parents and my in-laws have been married for 30 years, my grandparents for 54 this April.) and people I don’t (YOU!). 🙂 Have a beautiful Thursday, Meg!

Amber - Yay for rockin’ hot marriages indeed. I’m all inspired to put up pictures of me and my hubby all over the place.

sam - Love this post. We celebrated our 25th anniversary last year and have had seven different homes in that time. I recently repainted our bedroom and, for the first time in 25 years, am working on making it more of OUR room. I plan to make a similar sign with our marriage vows on it and have been scouring our photo boxes for pictures of us over the past 27 years to do something very similar. So fun!

tiffany gardner - once again… you never fail to encourage. i am so glad that i found your blog a couple of years ago. you truly are a part of my days. my friend who doesn’t know me.
i thank God for you.

Meredith - Seeing your collection of photos of you and your husband makes my heart happy. I should do this in my bedroom too. Also, those butterfly pillows are amazing. I NEED those in my life.

Regina - I love, love, LOVE this post! It speaks my life in every word. We have lived in a rental and in a city that I’m not too crazy about for the past two years. We still have our house in another state (where I would MUCH rather live), but because my husband had a wonderful career opportunity HERE, that is where we are…ALL of us. There was much discussion about only him moving here and commuting back and forth (so that the kiddos could stay in their schools and near friends), but that just felt like we would be “divorced”…NOT an option! Thank you, thank you, thank you for this timely post….a wonderful reminder of WHY we live here, it just wouldn’t be the same without the whole family under one roof…outdated rental or not. Hugs and success to you, Meg!

Dana @ Bungalow'56 - Such wonderful sentiments here Megan. A wonderful post.
Dana

Susan - Thank you for sharing! I have a heart rock collection too! Most of mine came from around the cabin where we stay each year in Colorado.

Shannon - Love those butterfly pillows! You made the perfect space for you and your hubby including family photos and fun signs. As always love all the fun colors you use in your decorating 🙂

Janet C - Love this post, made even better listening to your special song.

Gina - LOVE!! Such a special collection hanging on the wall but the sentiment even better. 🙂

wendi - I love how God uses unexpected things to nail the point he is making. Today He used you.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - I LOVE this! We have never really put much into our bedroom — even here in this new house. It’s always the last priority and I have grown sick of it!
I love that you have your history right there on the wall.
I wish we could double date. You remind me of us. If that makes sense. Marriage is ebb and flow, but HE is my home.
(Also? You’re reading Ragamuffin?????????????? Put it on the list. Or actually, start reading so we can put it on the list.)
🙂

elma - Love this post to!!!
I love her shop to and have the family rules sign and one Christmas one!!

Lisa M. - Loved this post. Thanks for sharing such a personal part of yourself.

chrissie grace is selling these handmade trees to help raise money for the Jupin family adoption.

chrissie says:

"This piece is 24" high and 14 " across and reads from Isaiah 9:6.
Each one is hand-painted and will be uniquely made due to the variety of wood panel pieces.

This CHRISTmas tree is a very special product to me.
25% of all the proceeds will go directly to the Jupin family to help offset the financial burdens of a lovely adoption.

It is my prayer and intention that this piece will remain in your family as a special Christmas decoration for many years to come.

I really feel like God gave it to me to help Amy and her family bring Davis home.
Amy, I cannot wait to see the gifts it brings.  I pray Davis feels all the love and positive energy out there, just for him :)"

you can order this piece from Chrissie's shop for the next TEN DAYS ONLY.
———————————————————————————————————
the world of adoption processing is nuts.
it can be wonderful and amazing or it can be LONG and painful and completely frustrating.
i think it's safe to say that the Jupin's have experienced the latter for now
but they are HOPEFUL deep down that the wonderful and amazing is still yet to come.
we have been praying for Davis to come home to his forever family for a long time now.
it's heart breaking.
At0a-update2-257x300

He needs a mama to hold him.
He needs a daddy to tuck him in at night.
God knows this.
He knows what He is doing.
His timing is perfect… He is good.  He loves Davis.  He KNOWS.

You can donate directly to their adoption fund HERE.

You can purchase one of Chrissie's beautiful trees and 25% goes to Davis.

and YOU can pray for Davis to come home soon.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - Love this. Every bit.

roganne - beautiful 🙂
sending up prayers.

Tiffany - I don’t know much of the background to this story, but it’s so sad it’s such a difficult process. It breaks my heart to think there are littles out there without a mommy or daddy to hold them. I’ll add him to my prayers.

amy jupin - humbled.
and thankful.
🙂

Amy Mak - I really love this. My brother and their wife just got their baby last weekend and our world is forever changed. I’m also praying Davis can have a family soon.

Kate - Meg, thank you so much for sharing this. Your heart is gold and sparkly!

lisa - Wish it was easier for every family that chooses adoption. Praying today that Davis will be home soon.

April R - praying Davis will be home soon…

alright….it’s a new day.

so i got lots of texts yesterday and emails asking "what's going on??!"
i guess i was making people nervous or being dramatic?

or keep it to myself too often that when i explode people get nervous?
i think people were worried.
it's all ok…it's just HARD….and i wish it wasn't so hard most of the time.

but i got it all out in writing here yesterday and felt so much better almost immediately.
God gave me another day to try again.
thankful for that.

we made chocolate chip cookies.  (best recipe ever)
a double batch.
and it was like yummy therapy.  :)

then i took the four youngest who were off of school to a movie.
and freddys for dinner.

it was good to get out of the house.

right before my eyes.

this morning i printed out my pdf files from CLEAN MAMA and i am ready to get organized.
i love that she has the jobs written out already.
that was a huge for me.
i get so overwhelmed with chores and cleaning and keeping up at my house.
so becky has all kinds of ways to help me get organized and doing it such a cute and colorful way!!!
thank you Clean Mama for getting my life together!

okie dokie….
i am off to get my hair did.
and go to the bank
and the walmart.
and high school volleyball games tonight.

thank you for the hundreds of encouraging "you are not alone" comments and emails and texts.
THANK YOU.

i felt lifted up in prayer and in friendship.
i felt heard.
i can be open and honest here and not be attacked.
i am so grateful for that.

and my husband teased me about the mama grizzly.  :)

but it's TRUE!!!

Erin - Just finished Donald Miller’s book. Thanks for the recommendation!!

Kelly Henderson - Thanks for the heads up, girlfriend! 🙂

wesandruthb@gmail.com - Meg,
Love you for being you.
You are real
and that’s why
other blogs come and go with me-but you…
you feel like my friend from Kansas.
Aren’t we grateful our children
will remember our faith, when
the time comes they need their Savior?
Because we all do.
Loves, Ruth

Jessica R - If you’re quick and get to the ball you don’t need knee pads! That was my motto in volleyball ;). I want to see what Toms you picked. I’ll definitely be heading to Old Navy soon – super cute!

julie - Rock Star jeans go on sale tomorrow for $19. For reals. Treat yo’self. To a lot of them.
Happy jeans are cheaper than therapy.

mich - I love this blog so hard. I only have two, and their 5 and 3, so I can’t imagine all the craziness that comes with FIVE, the oldest being in high school. Nuts. Cut yourself some slack, girl.
And I notice that you mention wanting babies a lot on here. 🙂 I get it. I think we might be done at two kiddos, but something I’ve been considering down the road is fostering. Who knows? Maybe that would be a good fit for you guys? You seem to have so much love and fun to share, and those tiny ones in foster care could really use it. Just a thought…

christi - so glad you are having a better day!
if you haven’t already … go now and get the rockstar skinnies! they are AWESOME. no, more than awesome. like infinity awesome! some of the best fitting, most flattering and incredibly comfortable pants i’ve bought in a while. at a whopping 35 bucks! score on sale for $30 right now! the dark purple are fantastic … the green delicious … mustard so totally fall … red/orange energizing. size up. size up. size up. i always have to size down in ON but def. size up in these bad boys. they are ROCKSTARS! can you tell i love them?!

Andrea - Some days – and I read your blog every single day – I leave it feeling envious of you – your skill, your home (the way you make it a home), your craft weekends. Then I remind myself “comparison is the thief of happiness.”
I tell you that to tell you this: Even more inspiring than your home and your craft weekends is the way you honestly parent, the way you honestly share, the way you honestly keep working at your relationship with God.
Thank you so much Meg, I just love you.

Leah - I’m in awe at this Clean Mama stuff! I just want to buy all of her stuff. So before I do, which packets of hers did you get? Thinking about the 2013 starter kit. I’m one of those odd organizing freaks, so the more tools I have, the better!

Anne - You are SO not alone in the “parenting struggles” department! While I felt sad for you, and could totally relate to what a crummy day you had had, it was quite refreshing that you just put it all out there. I love your blog! I love your honesty and the fact that you just typed it out! You are the {real} deal, Meg! Totally legit. No faking from you that everything is all hearts and flowers and rainbows all of the time. Parenting is HARD work! What a blessing to be able to communicate, and make new friendships, and touch so many lives via the Internet. You keep typing, and posting your fabulous photos, and I’ll keep reading! Oh yeah, pull my name for Craft Weekend, and I’ll come to that, too! I’d totally die!!!

Tracy Fisher - I just have one thing to say…. I get it, sister!!! Happy Tuesday. -Tracy

Jennifer - Ok, so maybe no knee pads, but definitely Talby has the most awesome shoes!
I didn’t write yesterday b/c I didn’t know what to say….except I have moments like those…monthly. Times where I want to scream at my girls, “YOU BETTER START APPRECIATING EACH OTHER!” We wanted siblings because of all the love and joy they bring to each others’ lives. So start enriching already dammit! And the days when nobody listens? Or storms out of the room? Or stomps up the steps? Hello 10 and 12 year olds with attitude.
Anyway. The bad times pass, but they are not fun when you are in the throes. Most definitely you are not alone, and I’d be willing to be you handle it a lot better than I do.
<3

Kristin S - Oh, and, now I want those cords in kelly green. I worked at The Gap in college and we had colored cords and denim! That was 1991. It all comes back….

Kristin S - Meg, I’ll say it again, your post was so refreshing! I don’t go to your blog because it is all cherries and rainbows (well, rainbows, yes…) but because you are real and normal and honest and love Jesus.
I linked to your post yesterday at the bottom of a difficult post I had just written before seeing yours. http://kristinwithani.wordpress.com/2012/09/18/weary/ Many readers clicked on that link and I know were blessed by your gut-level honesty.
His mercies are new every morning. Praise the Lord!!!

Valerie @ Chateau Ala Mode - Hi sweet Meg, just caught up on your last two posts…please don’t get too overwhelmed with being a mom, although I totally get it. I hope you realize that being a good mom means we get overwhelmed and we get frustrated and we feel like we’re not enough, yada, yada. A good mom does feel like that…alot because you care and you want so desperately to raise kids that love the Lord, and love you and love their family. You want them to succeed in the world and in their life. Check all of that out…that’s alot that we have to do and think about. I’ve said many times that I really don’t know how I would get through raising kids if I didn’t have God to lean on. If I didn’t have prayer and His word I would have to be heavily medicated to do this job. It’s a heavy load to do by yourself. Glad you’re feeling better today. Chocolate chip cookies help 😉 but so does a big God.
P.S. My son went through the wild hair stage at about that age. We let him do his thing and it lasted about a year and after that he’s kept it short ever since. Sometimes I think letting them do their thing (within reason) is the answer.
Sending you a big hug!
Valerie

Lisa M. - Glad to hear it’s a better day. I sent a little prayer up for ya yesterday 🙂
I thought I made the best ever chocolate chip cookies!! Now I’m going to have to try your recipe. I didn’t see butter listed in the ingredients. Hmm…

Flower Patch Farmgirl - 1. Talby is RIPPED!
2. I always experience the same sort of thing when I let the ugly out. It freaks people the heck out. And I’m always like, why? I’m having a bad day. It happens!
3. But I think you’re right, some of us keep it in and then it takes people off guard.
4. Why do those tight cropped cords look so cute on other people but I feel like a dork in ’em?
5. This is quickly turning the corner to Part II of my rambly comment from yesterday…

Becky-Clean Mama - It’s a new day! Thanks for the feature – you are too sweet 🙂

Kimberly Dial - So glad you are feeling better. Chocolate chip cookies & a trip to the beauty shop … two awesome ideas!

Sarah - I completely understand where you’re coming from with the hair. I let our 6 year old get a real mohawk this summer and even painted it for him every morning after I spiked it up. It made him happy, it was what he needed after our big move so I went with it. And I’m so glad you’re feeling better! We really do all have those days.

northern cottage - what a gift that we get to start all over again each day…each sunshiney – fresh – wonderful day. add coffee to make it even better! xo

Corny - Kids, I raised 4 and they can embarrass you sometimes, BUT as long as they don’t steal, and are drug free they are going to be just like there parents. Just fine!

Beth - It’s good to see that you’re feeling better 🙂
I am cringing at that volleyball picture though… #7 has her fingers interlocked. No, no, noooo…. my old volleyball coaches’ voices are playing in my head. haha.
Btw, those cookies look DELICIOUS! We’re going to make some on Thursday to take to our local police and fire stations… we’ve been talking about it for months. Might have to use your recipe!

Brooke - Those jeans…don’t even go there…at least I couldn’t. They are not like the target version. They are made for talby size girls with no hips. Not that I’m bitter… At least they have great marketing! I think you are doing a great job walking through this honestly….and knowing that all parents walk through the journey of not knowing if you are doing things right. You’re doing a great job. Clinging to your husband and the Lord and just hoping (praying) that you are not screwing anyone up and that everyone will choose wise things SOMEDAY….
And thanks a lot…saw your insta chocolate chip cookies and had to make my own. Thanks for making me LESS likely to fit into any colored jeans anytime soon.

happygirl - You are bouncing back. I’m glad. 🙂

Jocelyn Pascall - Glad you are having a better day. Hang in there…

angela - So glad His mercies are new every morning.
I’m with you on the color purple.
Love me a cookie.
What a great mom to let him rock his own hairstyle. I failed in that dept.
You is kind. You is smart. You is important.
And I love your heart.

Linda@Restyled Home - Hah! I love that you hate purple, too!
I love that you are real and don’t hide the not so nice bits of life.
We all have them!

seriously sassy mama - I need a pair of Toms. I never wear socks and am always wearing either converse or loafers. The would be a nice addition. Love all the colors to organize with. Reminds me I need to update my planner.

Heather S. - You had a “poo” day and then the next day you made cookies, took the kids to a movie, and then hit Freddy’s? You really know how to bounce back! LOL 🙂

sara @ it's good to be queen - i like you. you’re good people. 🙂
p.s. the new rockstar jeans from old navy are awesome. have you bought a pair? not too low rise…not too high. perfect.

Alisha - So glad you’re having a better day! I’m always amazed at how the promise and arrival of a new days gives a whole new perspective to what seems dark and impossible at times. Bless you for sharing.

Kate - You are LOVED. Not judged. Just loved.

Pink and Green Mama MaryLea - I always feel better after I dump out my brain in my journal and cookies sure do help make it better too!! So glad today’s a better day — hugs!

stephany - isn’t it great that a new day always gives a “do over”!
being a momma is hard work…we do the best we can.
have a great day!

Regina - YAY! Glad you were able to “turn that frown upside down”, lol! 🙂 Here’s to many more great days ahead!

elma - Life is hard and you are awesome!!!

Year Old Birthday Party Ideas - Love the family picture! Lovely photos!

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - Funny, I was drooling over those red Toms wedges too:) Great pictures Meg!

se7en - These are stunning!!! I need you in my life!!! I would love a photograph of my whole family actually looking in the same direction – let alone at the camera!!!

Lynette - Loved, Loved, Loved seeing my “little” brother and his family on your blog! I have been watching to see if you’d post any of the pics of the family from the Husker state! Thanks for allowing me a peek into their session!

Shelly Todd - So fun to see a family on here that I know! Crazy! So, I live in Olathe and my husband and I just opened a booth at a local antique place in town. I’m thinking about a road trip out to Barely Makin’ It. What do you think? Would I be able to find some fun things for my booth? I’m filling it with furniture but want to find some fun accessories… I’m doing some yarn wreaths and book page wreaths, chalkboards in ornate frames, etc. Love your blog, by the way!

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - I love you, Meg!

Cindy - Ah what a fun surprise! Love our photo you chose to post, Meg. THANK YOU again!!! It’ll be fun to finally have a profile pic on my blog 😉

Kerry - wowza. these family pics are awesome Meg! That’s so funny you linked up to Hire Blog Help today – I just received my first Virtual Assistant job today 🙂 xxx

Lisa - Fantastic! You find such great locations to shoot. I love the brick background. Sidenote: Red Toms WEDGES?! My heart skipped a beat. Lovin’ her style!

he could quit his day job…..

IMG_3739-1
let’s just call him Magnum P.I. from now on.

he checked on my phone through t-mobile & got all the numbers that had been called since i’d lost it friday night.
i had lost my phone 30 minutes away from home.
he called them.
he got names and figured out who took it and was using it.
and then talked to the thief’s neighbor!
she said “what?! that is terrible!  i will go and get it for you! that is AWFUL!
and she called back with my phone.
Magnum drove to her house and picked it up and surprised me with it.
we are sending the neighbor a thank you gift!

he is awesome.

like….way awesome.
thanks MAG.

so yeah…….i googled magnum pi and there were over a million results for images.
a million!?!
that is pretty crazy.
and worthy of a picnik collage don’t you think??

Magnumus
come on….you know you want THAT on your pinterest!

when i look at those pictures i feel like i am 6 years old.
my uncle had that mustache….my parent’s friends had those….everyone!
can’t you hear his voice in your head????  smoldery tom selleck…..mmmmm.

but you can’t stop there……i had to YOUTUBE him.

and then i found you can find full episodes on hulu from season one!

oh my.

how was that for a monday morning post???

there was NO WAY you saw that coming.

🙂

Dianne Avery - Tom lives near me!!!!! And let me tell you he doesn’t disappoint in real life!! He is yummy. 🙂

angie - I think I’ve only commented on your blog once or twice, but I couldn’t resist commenting on a post about Tom Selleck! I grew up with that mustache! No, Tom Selleck isn’t my dad, but my dad had one just like it. But I think it’s the dimples that make it especially delicious.
So glad you found your phone! Your hubby is quite the sleuth!

jessicakiehn - gosh…don’t you just love awesome husbands? You are so blessed!

Kristin S - Never in a bazillion years would I have thought to call through the numbers. So smart! Brave neighbor too.

Aimee - Woot, go Magnum!
Speaking of, have you seen Waterfall-Selleck-Sandwich? I know I got the order wrong, but it’s too much trouble to retype it.
http://selleckwaterfallsandwich.tumblr.com/
Fun. 😉

megan - hahahahahaha! magnum….oh, how my 5-year-old self loved tom selleck and i wanted monica to end up with him so bad on friends! and, wow! that was some amazing detective work! good job hubbie!
blessings to you this day, meg…
megan

Courtney McIlwain - How cool is that!!! You have an awesome husband

deborah@applesinwonderland - i wasn’t ready for that shock. magnum. aw. but, craig? he does sort of rock, doesn’t he? you should fashion him a cape. he’s a SUPERHERO. that would be funny. would he pose for that pic? yeah, i just mustached my whole family on picnik. they didn’t think it was quite as hilarious as i did.

elz - Ah…Magnum. Sigh…So happy you found your phone.

amber - Amazing. Really amazing…

alicia @ la famille - that’s awesome! what a stud!!

Talia - Your husband rocks! And the neighbor who went after your phone — she rocks too! 🙂

Amy Lynne - Yay for Craig! That’s awesome!

jodi @ back40life - way to go magnum & way to go neighbor…you have some rockstars on your team! woo hoo!

kristen b - okay meg – this shows my “real” age, but i used to watch dear Tom EV.ER.Y. thursday night during my freshman year away at college while my roomie and i did our nails. a huge big family room full of young gals watched him too so i wasn’t the only one drooling. AND i hung his poster above my bed so he was the last thing/ i mean man, that i saw at night. ahhh. . .
i’m thrilled to know who i can call in the future for my local detective work!

Janine - Glad you got your phone back. I looove Tom Selleck. Me and my friend were the weird 8 yr olds who were in love with him on Magnum PI. Like it was his poster on the wall along with NKOTB. Loved the mustache. Yeah we were weirdos but he was and still is dreamy!
Oh and those pillows are amazing. I may be ordering 2 for upcoming Christenings. I think they will make a great gift for the girls.

Kimberly Dial - Really aging myself but here goes … Oh how I loved Magnum P.I. Tom Selleck still makes my heart go pitter-patter every time I see him!

Kimberly Dial - Really aging myself but here goes … Oh how I loved Magnum P.I. Tom Selleck still makes my heart go pitter-patter every time I see him!

jen - okay, that is the funniest thing i will see probably all week.
i have more of the western movies crush on him.
but your hubby rocks as does the neighbor.
that’s absolutely AWESOME!!
but the moustache, it does kind of creep me out a little, there’s too much of it!

rachel - that. is. awesome.

Tiffany - I want to send that neighbor a thank you gift. AWESOME!!! what does she like? how’s that for doing God’s work.

Kate - YEAH, your husband! YEAH, Chrissie (her shop is AWESOME!)! And as for the ‘stache. What is REALLY sad – is that it makes me think of my dad – he still sports on of those…

Chrissie Grace - oh my word…I laughed out loud at that story.
I’m not much of a mustache person…

Michelle from Australia - I’m so happy that your phone came home thanks to your SuperSleuth husband. WAY TO GO CRAIG!!!

Lisa - I cannot believe he was able to track down your phone!! That really does make him awesome. btw my dad totally looked like Tom Selleck back in the day. 🙂

Kacey - Way to go, Detective Craig! That is awesome!!!

happygirl - YOUR HUSBAND ROCKS. the mustache. I met Tom Selleck 20 years ago at the ProAm at Pebble Beach. I got to put a bandaid on his hand. I was twitterpated. He was So Handsome. But I was 20 years younger and pretty cute myself. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Cindy - GREAT you found your phone. Last school year an 8th grader walked my classroom after school when my door was open (I teach 6th, so it was just a random drive, I mean, ‘walk-by’) and long story short, I ended up tracking down my phone by having Sprint put a GPS track on it. I found the exact house where it was at, knocked on the door the next day w/my principal next to me and got my phone back. ha ha SUCKA!! and since then I pay $5 a month for contact back up. I wanted to cry when I thought about losing all those numbers!

jenni@talkinghairdryer - We just did that EXACT SAME THING when our son’s phone got stolen on the last day of school. Except we had to threaten to get the police involved before anyone was motivated to help us. They finally did help, though, and we got the phone back. My son dug in his piggy bank and gave the man a reward. He was glad to get the phone back, but bummed because the people who had it erased everything and he lost all his numbers 🙁

dotsie (aka podso) - What a guy (your husband) and T.S. isn’t bad either … thanks for the memories!

kat - Okay, you are seriously hilarious! I love your posts, they always make me smile. I just know we would be awesome friends in real life! 🙂 Your summer list inpires me each year to make one of our own. It is such a great idea. As always, thanks for all the laughs and the inspiration. Thanks for being awesome!

heidi @ wonder woman wannabe - that is so stink’n AWESOME! well done!
no lie, my hubby and i were just talking last week about how fun it would be to have the Magnum P.I. intro as a ring tone.
i think mr. duerksen must absolutely have it! ha! 🙂

miss lynn - to.tal.ly.awe.some.
what a man!!!!

Jenny B. - That’s amazing about your phone! He’s a keeper! 🙂 Love Magnum too. A channel here still shows it at least once a week, and we end up staying up late to watch it quite often. I just ordered the Isaiah 43 print from Chissie Grace. I had my eye on it a while back when you first posted about her shop on your blog. I’m so glad that it will help Davis and his family!

Angel/TaDa!Creations - So glad you got your phone back!
I hear Magnum too. We own seasons 1 and 2 and can’t wait to buy the rest. *sigh*

rachel / cr.e.at.e - that is TOO FUNNY about your thief’s neighbor! 😀 loved that story! also, my son’s name is davis. i know he would LOVE to help out a little boy named davis. he just saw a photo on CNN of a boy named davis who lost his home in the joplin tornado & he still brings it up – it really struck a chord. we’ll have to check out the shop together!

sam - Love magnum! Your post has made my day:-)
Glad you’ve been reunited with your phone – clever husband!!

Jennnifer - my ring tone for a long time was the magnum theme song… it just makes me happy. My dad is still rocking that mustache 🙂 Julie’s story above cracks me up. But it is a little scary. hahah.

stephanie - I LOVE that he tracked down your phone. What a guy. : )
And, I have bookmarked those pillows – I can’t afford them now, but I would LOVE to have one for each of my kids. Someday.

alyssa - my dad had that mustache!!

Kim Barlow - Way to go Craig!! Love the Summer List, the Pillows, and the BOO/YAY recount! Way to Rock IT OUT girl!

Kirsten J - omigosh he’s a hero! I think he should hang his shingle right now…you could be his cute assistant…and then Bravo could get wind and you’d have a series 🙂

Julie - Want to know some of my childhood trauma? My mom had this Tom Selleck poster http://www.flickr.com/photos/caramaya/2038028172/ in her armoire. Scandalous right? And weird. When I asked who it was, she said “if he shows up at the door I am leaving your dad for him.”
WHO SAYS THAT TO A KID????? Because believe you me, every time the doorbell rang, I was afraid that it was mustache man coming to take my mom away.
Thanks a lot Magnum.

Courtney Walsh - I have such a crush on Tom Selleck. Blue Bloods is one of our very favorite shows and he’s amazing in it. Seriously. Sooo glad you got your phone back! 🙂 I wish someone would steal mine. I need a new one. ha.

Debbie - I love this post! Hot.
And I love those pillows!

Cathy - I love Tom Selleck! Did you know he’s on a show on CBS called “Blue Bloods” right now. Well, I guess it might be done for the summer but you can watch episodes on hulu. I love the mustache and the dimples.

jen - WoW he does have mad detective skills… I am glad you got your phone back unharmed and lets hope you don’t start getting a bunch of calls from the yahoo who found its friends… hahaha Happy Monday!

melanie - wow that neighbor sounds awesome! glad she could help and yay for good husbands who save the day.

BriBedell - This post is awesome. Seriously, can we be friends in real life? Lol glad you got your phone back 🙂

Karen Gerstenberger - What a great “Craignum P.I.” you have! Good work, Craig!
I loved that show…had a BIG crush on Tom Selleck. I was a very serious student in college, but during my senior year, we used to start the weekend early by watching “Magnum” on Thursday nights! Woohoo! Getting pretty wild there! =) – I am wilder now (in my 50s) than I was then. Thanks for the walk down memory lane, and the eye-candy! That guy STILL looks great.

Necole - No man could wear those sexy khaki daisy dukes like Magnum PI. What a yummy way to start a Monday. Thanks

Jennifer - That is really awesome-I love it when people have the stones to stand up and go after someone who does wrong. So very cool!

Jennifer - Yeah. George’s got nothing on Tom! 🙂
SO glad that your own personal Magnum got your phone back for you. That totally ROCKS!
And I’m thinking Magnum P.I. might be the show we watch for the summer with our two older boys. Too fun!

pam - GLORY, what a grand way to start the week! And can I say WOO HOO about HULU! LOVED that show!

Lorilee - We keep our phones “locked” with a password to make it more difficult for someone to use if they find it! My husband once found and returned 2 phones in one week.
Blessings,
Lorilee

robin - I ordered a print from her site when I saw your first email, and was sad that I wasn’t contributing to the 25% pillow discount, but I couldn’t pass up the print. Now I know it counted towards Reece’s Rainbow, too. Awesome!

amy d - it’s gotta be that he’s named craig…they make awesome detectives! glad you got your phone back…i would freak if i lost mine! craig in the stash is creeping me out though… 🙂

Linda - YAY….What a way to start a Monday! 🙂

Terrie G - Blue Bloods…friday nights…just sayin’! You are so lucky to be married to Magnum’s twin! And he could probably have a full time job as a phone locator p.i.!! So glad you got your phone back…unless you did lose it on purpose. 🙂

Siobhan aka Kiwivandal - I have a laundry list of things that have “gone missing” if you feel like lending him out? No. 1 on the list is the powercord to my computer, that my kids swear “got up and walked away, Mom”

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - Bwahahahahahaa…Magnum. I used to watch that show every day after school when I was little. Good times!
I just may have to ask for Craig’s John Hancock if I ever meet him in person. Afterall, hes a total hero. Ive lost different cell phones three different times. And I feel like Im missing one of my kids when I do. Glad yours is back. Poo poo on the person who stole it. YAY for the awesome neighbor who retrieved it:)

Holly - ha! That is too funny! Glad you got yoru phone back!

Chelsea - Awesome news all around! SO HAPPY you found your phone and about the fundraising, HAPPY MONDAY!

amy b. - ok, that Magnum montage brought back alot of memories! Loooved that show!! The 80’s were totally Awesome! Glad you got your phone back! That mustache on your husband cracked me up!!Funny!

Gemma @ Musings of a gem - Yay! So glad you found your phone : )
What a hero !
Gemma x

Courtney - That’s great! I got a “lewd” phone call the other day and went totally Magnum on that guy’s butt. Found the “unlisted” number and turned it over to the cops who were looking for him. Felt great! I like to be called Nancy Drew now 🙂

Niki - Don’t you love it when your husband turns out to be your hero!!!!! Awww! That is PURE awesomeness!

Kerry - Wowwwee! Go Magnum aka Craig! thats awesome 🙂
Love the love that is being spread through your blog, the pillows are just too gorgeous and for such a great cause.
LOVE that rainbow book, if shipping doesnt work out too expensive i may just have to order myself one 🙂
Have an awesome day meg,
kerry x

false alarm.

my etsy shop will not be opening today.
there is still too much fun stuff to sew!

if i had gotten everything together this week…..photographed it…..uploaded it…..listed it….
and then you guys bought it (hopefully)….then i had to ship it all…..

i knew i wouldn't sew again before photo season starts.
and once that starts….i don't have time for anything else creative.
(except craft thursday)

and i love to sew.

like….really love.

so instead of doing all of those things above to get the shop open…i just kept sewing.

and now it's monday and i am not one step closer to opening.

erin - Beautiful pillows! I have been following your blog for a while, found it through The Lettered Cottage when they featured your guest room, which is so fun! Ok, 2 questions for you about the pillows: 1) do you use pillow forms or loose stuffing to fill them, and 2) how do you close them (zipper, sew up the 4th seam, or overlap the back so they slide in? You have inspired me to do more creative things with my 4 kids and for myself. Thank you!

Mallory - Pretty pillows! I am looking for something beautiful to add color to my living room and your pillows might just be it! I can’t wait!

Su@The Intentional Home - those sneak peaks have me giddy. . . I already see pillows and prints I want. . I love me some bright bold color. . .I am afraid you are gonna sell out in the first day.

Angie P - LOVE! 🙂

Valerie Page - I am excited about your pillows. This is a project I would love to learn how to do. I can’t wait till your store is open. I may have to buy quite a few. shelley - Meg….hurry…i have to have some of those pillows !!! so adorable and colorful !!! I love all the pom pom trim ! Praise God that you can sew..i just stare at my sewing machine in the box..i am scared to take it out. It was gifted to me and I am afraid of it !

mulberrytreehouse - These are adorable! Can’t wait to see your etsy shop!

Kristin S - Meg, Meg, Meg, Meg!!!
No wonder you bought 80 million yards of white pom pom trim. LOVE.
So glad my birthday is coming so I can treat myself.

kristin - i’ll take one of everything, please.
: )

Danielle - Oh man… there’s a pillow I see that I want soooo bad!!! And perhaps a bunting or two. 🙂 I always miss your shop. It’s like everything sells in 20 minutes. 🙂 I’m going to be more diligent this time… because, oh that pillow. OH that pillow.

Christina (fivewalkers.com) - Sooooo fun! Do you follow a pattern or just make it up?! That made me so happy to look at those pictures!

Kathie Simmons - Bummer!!! I’m having a somewhat stinky day and buying some of those things would definitely have helped. Everything looks so fun and bright and happy. Well, good things are worth waiting for! And that stuff looks AWESOME!!

Andrea - But I’ve set money aside to shop your store! I NEVER set money aside!
I guess the good news is you’re still sewing because the way these comments read you’re going to sell out in no time!

Brooke - I think this might be the first time I’ve commented here, but I’ve read your wonderful blog for some time now. Not only are your posts inspiring, both in creativity but also spiritually, but you also give me a taste of home, as I grew up in western KS and can’t return enough.
I saw the pillows on this post, linked below, and you immediately came to mind. Is that weird? 🙂
Thank you for the work you put into your blog.

LOVE all your stuff so far! 🙂 [and seriously. so funny you have the problem that you have. you can’t list anything because you’ll sell out & it’ll be game over. i can’t say i know of any other etsians that have a problem like that? hilarious.] 🙂

Michelle - I can’t wait to order a pillow, some wall art and a flag banner!!! I love it all!!!
I will be checking out your blog daily to find out when it will open!!!!

Lisa - I better not forgot to check your blog and then find out you opened your shop a few days after the fact. I’m sure it will sell out quickly. I NEED the flag banner for my kids’ playroom. Like REALLY NEED it.

Linda - I’m so excited pillow and bunting!! Makes me happy!

Heather - Those pillows make me smile!

Nichole - I want to raid your fabric supply, seriously. I can never find such awesome prints!

Jess Mead - I love your fabric. Trying to think of a place for new pillows. I’m sure I could find a place! 🙂

Kat - How much each are the pillows? Just trying to work out if I can afford to buy one and the postage to send it to Aus….

Kat - Nice pillows Meg!
Funny, when I read the topic “false alarm” I thought you were going to say that you thought you were pregnant, but it was a false alarm.
Ah must be on my mind, the whole concept of babies and pregnancy seeing as we have (mostly) decided to stop at 4.

Amber - EEEKkkk I need the HB green pillow in the top right!!! PLEASE!!!!

Carol S - Don’t sweat it! That’s the beauty of being a freelancer, you can work on your own schedule. And while procrastinating, you’re building up a little anticipation along the way which is a good sales technique. Smart lady!! Just enjoy the process and have a great week Meg.

tiffany feger - i just saw your name and blog link in my “baby talk” mag today:) it’s on how to be a great SAHM:)

Hey, do you know enough craft people in your area to do a boutique somewhere in Kansas? That might be way fun! I’d participate! You could even hold “make and take” classes as part of it. Get your organizing friend working on that! 🙂 🙂

Sarah@this farm family's life - those photos are killing me. i can’t wait!

Lorie Yoder - I’m just dyin’ for the opening…tell me…do you fill your pillows with fill or a pillow insert? Where do you get all your chenile for the back of some of your pillows? Is it an old bedspread? Totally LOVE all of them! Your admirer in COLD Indiana!

april - wow I have to say meg those look awesome….

happygirl - Isn’t it funny how time slips by. I’m constantly struggling with time management. Your pillows are so pretty. I’d love to have one, but they just end up being a chew toy for my dog. I just can’t break him of the pillow chewing. It’s the ONLY thing he chews. I feel the same way about getting my items listed on ebay. Adrienne S - The pillows! I want some of those. Will be watching for the opening of the shop.

craft weekend.

lots and lots of pictures from the weekend.

three of the girls flew to kansas…two from california…one from alabama.
two of the girls drove from oklahoma.
the rest of the girls were local within 30 minutes.
three of us went to the airport to pick them all up…there were even some tears of joy upon meeting in real life.

craig is a super star and took all of our kids to his mom's for the weekend…with the stomach flu.

all the blogger girls stayed at my house.
i have lots of beds….a little known fact apparently.
everyone had their own mattress.
we must be mattress hoarders.

IMG_7449
my dining room that turned into a game room decided to become a craft retreat lodge this weekend.
we fit in there so well!
all the sewing machines were on the pool table!
it was like the room was made for it.

IMG_7302
on friday night we made our first craft led by julie.
we used this tutorial by little miss momma.

they turned out so cute.
almost everyone chose a different color.
you need to make this!

IMG_7309
kimberlee didn't have on lipstick so we had her use her necklace for lipstick.

IMG_7305

IMG_7298
lots and lots of chit chat while we were crafty.
and i see waffle's paw at the bottom left corner of this picture.
he was by our sides every minute….loving the the attention from the ladies.

IMG_7312

there was so much good food.
cindy made breakfast on saturday.
we got to sleep in….a requirement made by me.
don't you hate going places for a "retreat" and then have to be at breakfast by 7:30 am??

IMG_7315

there was even a sweet little baby in attendance!

IMG_7320

after cindy filled us with crepes with fresh fruit and quiche we loaded into a 15 passenger van to go antiquing.
we debated about decorating the van with bunting……

IMG_7346
so fun.
we are any stores DREAM.
a van pulling up with 10 women to shop???
we were met with big smiles.

IMG_7325

IMG_7338
9 out of 10 ladies left with new found treasures.

IMG_7334
cole with his mama picking out all the best doilies.

IMG_7344

IMG_7326
i took them to my favorite antique store…Bearly Makin It.
so much to choose from.
if you are in kansas….you should go.

IMG_7364
heather found silverware for her party planning business.
a total score!

IMG_7355
anyone need a milk jug???

IMG_7359
loving the sunshine!

IMG_7360
all the ladies took turns holding sweet baby cole.
it was our pleasure.
he hardly made a peep the whole weekend.
and everyone had envy of julie's gorgeous hair….it is soooo pretty.

IMG_7366
on saturday in kansas we had a really odd extremely warm day.
we were so grateful for it.

IMG_7439
can you guess what i bought from all these goodies?  ha ha ha

IMG_7414

IMG_7384
after a sonic happy hour run we made it back to my house for more crafts.

IMG_7412
the ruffle pillow tutorial heather taught us with is here.

IMG_7409
3 women had never sewn on a machine before.
they ended up being ruffle making rock stars!
they did fantastic.
ashley's machine made the best ruffles…we all waitied for our turn on her machine.
no one knew what the secret was….but it worked….no gathering required.

IMG_7411
i love being around people who love technology as much as i do….

IMG_7421
threading a needle….

IMG_7402
the third craft was embroidery hoop art.
we were given lots of examples that we could make or we could make our own design.

IMG_7407
amy's was amazing.

IMG_7389
we stayed up crafting and listening to frank sinatra on pandora and eating tiramisu until 2 in the morning.

IMG_7442
kimberlee made breakfast on sunday.
there was frosting involved.

YUM.
IMG_7444

IMG_7447
another great thing about crafty girls weekends….women clean up.

IMG_7455

IMG_7459

IMG_7474
there were cameras everywhere.
and fabric everywhere.

dreamy.
and my brass lamps from the thrift shop.  :)

IMG_7485
there is a peek at amy jupin's ruffle pillow.
i am in love with the ruffle pillows…i want to make a hundred of them.
and her turquoise flower necklace is also in the picture.

these were all of our hoops together…not all finished but all together.
mine is the one right
here under these
letters.

IMG_7469

IMG_7493
trying to set up our cameras for a group shot….caught kimberlee being silly.

IMG_7524
jana (no blog….yet) and amy jupin.

IMG_7525
                                                             jess  and  julie.

IMG_7522
ashley and cindy    (also no blog….YET).
cindy came with ashley so she didn't have to drive alone and show up to a house full of women she had never met and be trapped with us if she didn't like us…
turns out we LOVED them both!
very much.

IMG_7531
                                                                    heather, cole and me.

IMG_7526
amy   (my neighbor) and  kimberlee  (my cleaning partner)

and that was that.
they went home with their suitcases full of new crafts, antiques, julie's messy flowers and full tummies.

and i haven't stopped smiling since.

God gave me blogging.
He gave me a gift that i get to continue opening when i meet new friends from all over.
God is so awesome.

my mind feels full of creativity.
my heart feels full of love and friendship.
my body feels too full of cinnamon rolls and cheesecake.

the retirement center has been missing me.

my bloggy friends left just in time….we are snowed in here and it's FREEZING.
my house has never been this cold.
i am bundled up in a blanket with many layers and hot coffee and i am still frozen.

T.McClelland - Hi! I came across this by accident, and I am so glad I did! My friends and I have started to do craft weekends together; we have a great time! Don’t know how much crafting we actually get done……we stay in our PJ’s…sometimes put on a chick flick…eat chocolate….we take turns going to each other’s houses. It’s a nice, fun, relaxing, full of laughter good times.

Amanda - OH Man! I see at least five of my favorite bloggers in the same room being crafty! I have gained so much from you and looked forward to all the inspiration from your creativity!!!

Wendy - That sounds awesome. I can’t imagine a day of hanging with friends & crafting, much less a weekend! I miss having friends that live in the same town as me 🙁

Jessica @ These Are The Days - Well I was going to guess and say “if it were me I’d have gotten the globe”, but in one of those last pictures I saw the globes so I’m pretty sure I was right.
Love the necklace you gave Edie…I was coveting it the whole weekend at Blissdom. If you would tell me where I can snag one, I’d be over the moon. 🙂 Thanks, Jessica

(how far was it again??)

Kristi~The Slipcover Girl - looks like such fun! we had a craft night recently…it was a blast!

Diane @ InMyOwnStyle - This is the best idea for bloggers to get together – so much better than a big conference. Reading through your post was so enjoyable. I love the globe you got – wish I lived closer to go to that antique store.

Bonita - I’m not even crafty and I don’t know any of you (came over from Nester’s blog), but the fellowship looked like so much fun that all the way through the post I kept thinking, “I wanna go.” So glad you had such a fun time!

Amanda @ Serenity Now - I’m visiting from The Nester’s and I had to tell you what a dream this looks like! 🙂 It’s hard enough to get my local girlfriends together to do anything, so I can’t imagine the planning that went into this. What a fabulous time you all must have had. 🙂

Sarah @ a drop of golden sun - Wow, what an amazing bunch of women, and amazing talents! Tonight is our first of what we hope to be many more, “craft club”! I am hosting at my house, but I don’t think it will be anything nearly as spectacular as your whole weekend was! Something to strive for I suppose. Thank you for sharing!

Jenn - That looks like such a dream! Thanks for giving me a little glimpse into a heavenly weekend-love the crafty ideas, too!

Cherished Hearts Vintage - Gorgeous pics! Any chance of a tutorial to show us how to make the ruffle necklaces?

HMama - I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this. *sigh*

I did manage to catch up when we hit the frosting though. 😉
Ps. You totally got the globe. 😉

Krystle - I’m new to your blog my m’dear… you are fabulous! I first found you because your house was adorable and I fell in love with your kitchen. I follow Amy Jupin’s blog and Jess Mac’s as well and am so happy that these two special women got to have some girl time. Your blog always puts a smile on my face:)

Kristin S - Meg, what a dreamy weekend. Your husband is a trooper! I bet he knew you NEEDED that girl time.
Your perspective at the end is shaping a seminar I’m doing at a women’s conference this coming weekend for women who work for our ministry. I am SO NOT an expert but just want to share from my heart about how it has ministered to me and others.
Most want how-to’s which is fine. I can do that. Sort of (I still don’t know how the heck to change my header). But I’d rather give big picture.
Thank you!

Sandee - Ok. This looks like the best weekend ever! Every time I get the chance to see pic.s of your house I’m in heaven… loved the one of the globe mixed in with other things at the antique store where you asked which thing you’d buy out of all those things. You got me started on wanting a collection of old globes and I just found my very first one on Monday!!! I’m so excited and can’t wait to find more.. 🙂

Sara - There is nothing better than a house full of friends with food, fun and crafts. How kind of you to open your house….I wondered what the major cleaning was about! Does anyone else think that Cindy looks like the brand new wife on Sister Wives? She is a doll…and I just put my thumb on why I thought I knew her. Funny! I obviously watch too much TV.

How fun of a weekend. How do you guys know one another? It would be fun to get together like that. :0)Kansas should have a blog meet-up.
Thank you,

Really clever way to spend a weekend, and yes, your husband (and inlaws) are amazing for their coordinated getaway as well. Very cool for everyone to have their time to party, and you totally deserved yours this weekend after being an amazing wife and mom all year long! Just went on a fun blogland stroll with your links on a snowy night in Chicago. Thanks Meg.

mary beth - Oh my gosh, I’ve been in that store! I was tired after the Hillsboro fair, so I was pretty overwhelmed by it, but can’t wait to get back there! What a wonderful idea for a weekend! We are in the middle of a Kansas blizzard right now, but I’m scheming in my mind for some good cabin fever crafting here all by myself! Great job Meg…stay warm with you memories of a great weekend!

shauna reed - what a hostess you are Meg.
that looks lovely.
what a dream come true to have nice clean people take over your house.
other mommies that know how to take care of each other.
that is the best medicine…for anything.
i love your hair and your whole deal….you know that, just thought i’d tell you again.

Beth - what a FABULOUS weekend!! makes me want fabric stores and antique stores and craft stores close to me!! thanks for sharing.

jennie - meg…totally random and not related to craft weekend (which looks fabulous) at all. but my pandora station just played “what is” by anna vandas, which you must listen to if you haven’t. the last verse of the song is, “What is good, what is pure, what is right? What is love, what is truth, what is holy in your sight?” Of course, it made me think of you. 🙂

mel - ahhhh!!!!! So FUN!!!!!!
Look at all those fun crafts you made!!
LOVE those necklaces!!!
Yay for Blog Friends & blog friend weekends!
What a blessing, indeed!
p.s. next time you need to invite someone who can teach you photoshop, since that is on your 35 before 35 list 😉

Kristin Hayne - What an awesome time!! So jealous…. that needs to happen in my life more often…. and was it a pre requisite to have blue eyes? LOL

kasey - I am so sorry i couldn’t make it…
you know…with the snow and all..i was just afraid of driving.
But you know how MUCH i love to craft…so i am really sorry that i wasn’t there to help you all hot glue buttons.
Next time for sure…and i’ll make the drive.
pinky promise.
I’ll even pick Laura up on my way…or maybe she could pick me up.

amber - aw, this is awesome Meg. I would love to do something like that someday. Blogging is great and the inspiration I get from you and other women/moms/crafters is so much fun. I am thankful for you sharing a glimpse into your life with all of us. I am so going to take a day trip to that antique store, I am seriously drooling over it! Thanks for sharing your weekend pictures. I am inspired as always.

Laura Phelps - I’M CRYING
seriously CRYING
but I am a DORK Meg..because I am looking at the pictures, wishing I had made the trip, but thinking at the same time how UNQUALIFIED I would have felt around these talented beautiful women!
I think I would have felt ugly and useless!!! HA
I need to find something I am good at before I walk into a room full of these ladies!
ugh, insecurity sucks
I LOVE the pics
I LOVE that God brought you all together
it looks PERFECT
you are awesome for doing this
God really is speaking through you
amazing
still crying…

Jen H. - Looks like a complete and utter blast! So many people have good intentions of meeting up and getting together, but it is great that you and these women actually MADE IT HAPPEN! Good job! 🙂

sue - World Globe.

sarah @ Perpetual Blind Date - You literally grouped all of my FAVORITE bloggers into one large crafting weekend. How fun?!

sara's art house - LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my dear! I wish I could have come!!!! :):) LOVE the hoop art.

Sixty- Fifth Avenue - oh my goodness, what fun!! your beautiful home was the perfect place to have a retreat. we are getting snowed in as i type under my warm blanket.
Londen
xx

Emily Zimmerman - Oh your post is making me tear up!! Seeing the picture of Jess and Julie together!! Oh boy makes me cry!! Makes me cry because of their loss, but tears of joy that they have met each other. Wow! Love all the pics and all the crafts!! So I have an idea…next year when you host your weekend (no pressure 🙂 or anything) what about having a contest where the winner gets to join your big weekend???!!! Or I’m pretty sure you could auction off tickets to the big event and make lots of money! Sign me up!!

Dina - LOOOOOOOOVVVVEEEE this post:-) I wanna do this with my gf’s. And thank you thank you thank you for sharing Marion:-) My bff and I went to Hillsboro in Sept.(craft fair)… we drove and drove and drove looking for barn sales — you had blogged the previous year about them…Marion, right? Can’t wait to take her:-) You’re the best!

Heather - ahhh that looks like an amazing weekend!!! One of my life goals is to have fellowship like that (with great women, great stuff to do, yummy non-diet treats, maybe a little book club action?) at least once a year or so. It has been lacking in my life since college and moving away from home, many years ago. Camaraderie without competition, that’s what I want. Meg, you always inspire me so much! And if I ever get the guts to show the world my blog, maybe that will be the vehicle God uses.

wendy, NJ - Wow! I am so jealous! I love that you were able to host such a wonderful weekend full of friendship and making memories!
Big hugs to you!

Jen - What fun! I am as crafty as a “big rock”. What I want most from you crafting weekend is Kimberlee’s HAIR!! Sigh…………..

Donna - I want to do this so badly!!! I wish I had a big enough house and a MIL that lives close so I could send my kids there.
You gals are awesome! I love all the craft projects. I’m going to have to make on of those necklaces and the embroidery hoop project. Love it all!
Thanks for sharing!!

se7en - I was going to say that photo looks lovely but then that other photo looked lovely too and so on and on… I t all looked so divine!!! The crafting, the outing, the awesome shop, the scrumshish food… the friends … totally love it all…. And if you didn’t buy that globe then I am sailing the se7en seas to come and get it for myself!!! Love it!!!

Becky - I’m not crafty but I love your crafts! They are the kind I would make or buy. I despise so many of the crafts (crap) out there. You have the most fun style, love it!

Amber - SO much fun!!! I would love to be a part of a fun craft weekend like this! It seems like all the friends that God has places in my life lately are from blog land and far away!

Heather - Hey Meg! I totally get hives even thinking about crafting like that! I have no creative abilities at all. None. BUT – next time you host a weekend, give me a buzz. I’m a great cook and I’ll come down and cook and do all the clean up for the ladies, just to be there. 🙂 I’m in Topeka – it’s doable! Ha!

Terrie - Isn’t it great to have a WonDerFul reason to clean your house?! Was wondering why you were so into spring cleaning in January! Thanks for all the Fab ideas!! I just got my sewing machine back yesterday…it’s been in the shop for 3 months! Not sure what I will work on first…ruffled pillows, the bunting I want to make for my craft room…or that quilt laying over the back of my chair since November waiting to be finished! So jealous…(I know one of the sins right…thou shalt not covet) of your women friendships! I’ve only had one dear friend who likes to craft…and having moved from her all the rest, missing that part of my life. You are Blessed Megan! Thanks for sharing with us!

Dawn Eshnaur - My friend and I both have ties to Newton and would LOVE to come to a craft weekend with you! My son dates a girl from Newton and my friend grew up there! We read yours and Ashley Ann’s blog….looks like too much fun! It’s funny….people make fun of us because we call our blogs friends “Our friends from Kansas” 🙂 Enjoy the snow!!!

Renae - Dang! I was in Kansas this weekend (okay, Missouri and some Kansas) and didn’t know this fab party was rockin’! 🙂 Oh well, looks like you girls had a fantastic time!! Meg, i’d love to know where you got your drinking glasses, with the dots on them. LOVE those. Thanks for sharing!!

Megan - You’ve shared so much. Can I ask for more? How about the tiramisu recipe?? Pretty please?

anne c - holy craziness! how fun! I need friends to do this with! what lucky women you all are to have each other and to experience such a great weekend crafting. I probably would have peed my pants to meet you and ashley…in fact I know I would have! thanks for sharing!

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - That is so fantastic! The hoops are PRECIOUS!

Tracey @7294cottageway.blogspot - How do I send my resume for that fun? I can cook, craft, clean..and I know a few really great jokes…so glad you had fun. LOVE that ruffle pillow!

debbie - I love everything about this! The crafts, the camaraderie and the food! I agree…you are indeed blessed!

Michele - Loved this post! How generous of you to open your home and your heart to all of these creative women. Thanks for sharing!

Lisa - This is what I call Utopia. Seriously, I am so inspired. I have dreamed of doing something like this but have thought, “My house is small. Who would want to cram into it for the weekend? On top of people they don’t really know.” What a lame excuse. This is the year. Maybe just a few friends, but I’m making it happen! Thanks so much for sharing! (I love that antique store too. My “girls” and I went Hillsboro weekend and I’ve been dreaming of it since!)

Jodi - I know it’s wrong to be jealous… but I am SO jealous!! I don’t know very many women here w/ the same love of crafting as I have. You are SO very blessed!!! :o)

sara @ it's good to be queen - oh my word, that looks like my idea of a good time. that antique store looks rad. I’m going to have to go there next time we’re in kS. seriously, that was such a great idea to do in the middle of winter. something fun to look forward to. I would love to do something similar. How did you decide who to invite? I think that would be the hardest part for me…not hurting some people’s feelings. also, LOVE the lamps down the middle of the table. so cool.

kat - Oh my gosh!!! So wish I could have been there too! What a super fun weekend!

Janie Fox - Looks like so much fun. I am new to blogging but there are some great hearts out there I have met by reading and now writing.
We are iced in here in central IL. Power was off for a bit but it is back on in time for me to read some fav blogs! 🙂

Beth @ odd girl out... - looks like you girls had a GREAT time! i miss KS so much, especially after a post like this, i went to school in lawrence!

mandy madison - Looks like a fabulous time had by all! Now you got me in the crafting mood 🙂 thanks for sharing!!

Amanda-ThriceBlessed - Looks like such a fun weekend!

Jill - So that’s why you were cleaning like a maniac last week! 🙂
Looks like soooo much fun! (the crafting that is, not the cleaning!)

Trish - FUN!

sarah - Looks like lots of fun 🙂

colleen - Okay, so which one of those girls is from Alabama? I live in Alabama and don’t know many other girls who are as obsessed with crafting as i tend to be! Have toyed with starting a blog and would love to know of another alabama girl i could learn from! Looks like you girls had your souls nourished! Something that for me usually comes from time with other likeminded women! Glad it was so much fun! Well worth all that cleaning!

Shayne - You have an amazing, dedicated husband! So sweet of him to take the kids, esp. when they weren’t feeling well. Hope they’re better now.
Glad you were able to create fun girl time for yourself. Girl time is special. 🙂

Ariel - How come Julie gets the amazing hair AND insanely long eyelashes??? Looks like so much fun…I need to make one of those necklaces, fast!

Kori - I wanna come play in Kansas too!! 🙂
My husband wanted me to keep lights up after Christmas and I didn’t have any ideas that didn’t resemble a frat house…lights on the walls, etc., but I am in total LOVE with the way you strung those big daddy globe lights above your table! Like dining al fresco but not. I think I’m gonna do that.
And add me to the list of chicks who have sewing machines who have never taken them out of the box and/or tried to thread them. I did take mine out of the box only to be scared by it and put it back. 🙁 I need to get over that ‘cuz I need some bright colors here in the cold of Spokane and don’t want to have to go hunting for the perfect thing when I *think* I can make it. Maybe.
Glad you had such a great time and hope Craig is better….

Suzy - I love the flowers. Does Julie offer a tutorial on how to make the pretty messy flower or does she just make them to sell? Thanks! Looks like it was a blast- good idea!!

tammy hebert - Looks like you had a great time. And all that crafting- I am jealous. Thanks for sharing..
tammy

Penny - Thank you so much for sharing photos of your time together. I am having a bunch of friends over to craft. Just for the day. But I love your ideas. I will borrow some and my friends will be impressed! Thanks. Looks like you all had a wonderful time. And they got to love on Waffle, lucky them!

rhonda - Just seeing all yall have fun together is GREAT! (I love it when women are shown as loving and supporting and real!!) So glad yall did this!

Beinghappygirl.blogspot.com - This looks like SO MUCH FUN. and thanks for the pictures. I have GOT to add pics to my blog. The crafting is WAY over my head.

Kari - Sounds like an amazing, fun time! I wish I had a bunch of fun gals to teach me to use a sewing machine. I’m ashamed to admit I bought a new machine about 4 years ago and have never taken it out of the box. I’m a chicken, LOL! Love your projects, especially the hoops. So cute!

Rachel - What amazing FUN! I have to admit, I’m a bit jealous. I’d love to host a gathering like that. I love that you just jumped in and made it happen. You’ve got me thinking…a dangerous thing indeed haha.

pam - How fun! My parents gave our 21 year old her great grandmother’s 1949 Singer….it has attachments that do things I’ve never heard of….I am VERY JEALOUS. It has a ruffler…..that you would be in awe of….does all the work and REALLY FAST.

Kristin - How awesome! It looks like you had a blast with an amazing bunch of women. 🙂

Susan - I wanna be one of your friends that you invite over! Seriously…I think if I knew you, you could make me a better Mom and person! It looks like you had so much fun! So, if you are looking to do another weekend and need a lonely mom of 6 kids 8 and under and would like to give her a reason to get away for a weekend, COUNT ME IN! I would be in my minivan so fast! You are truly blessed to have a great “family” of friends to surround you!

Courtney Walsh - Looks like a ton of fun, Meg! I am seriously thinking about doing something like this…too many people online that I’d love to meet and no guarantee that’ll ever happen!! Gotta take matters into your own hands sometimes! 🙂
I really want to learn to embroider…I am clueless, but I always love the way it looks!

amber - SO fun. Thanks for sharing, especially all the crafty fun. I’m loving the ruffle pillow too…

Heather R. - Thanks for the heads up on the shopping in Kansas. We’re in the blizzard fun, too. I don’t think the kids have gone to school in like forever. I bet you guys had a great time. Love all the crafts!!! 🙂

Peggy in TN - How much fun. New friends, old friends, far away friends. Blogging makes this big world so much smaller. Nice to see.

Courtney - looks like you all had an awesome time!
