she has a neat etsy shop with prints that full of cheerful colors.

calling all crafters!!

last year we had a weekend in the fall where we got together to craft for Water4Christmas.
we filled the etsy shop.
through those sales we were able to build TWO wells in africa.
$10,000 in etsy sales!
clean water for a village….just from our crafts!
that is SO AWESOME!

this year….life has gotten in the way of having a craft weekend.
we thought this year we would ask YOU to help.

could YOU make something to donate to the Water4Chistmas etsy shop?
could YOUR craft help bring clean water to someone in africa?

YES.

the answer is yes.

you can make one thing or you can make 20.
it's up to you.
you get to be creative and choose what it is.
what are you fabulous at creating?
make it for africa!
make it for clean water!

HE KNOWS what we need.

katey - I had a whole Saturday to myself as the boys were gone to a flag football tournament at church. I crafted all day and thought of other crafters across the country working too. I love this idea where everyone can be involved to help some way, using the talents we have been given. God is so good.

Yaz - I will like to buy a boy one or two to help out. Where can I do that?

Laura - Meg – I am a Youth Minister here in Ohio. At our church, we have planted a Biblical Herb Garden and make potpourri from our harvests called Heaven Scent. On the labels we have our website on which I have a tab that lists all the herb, their Biblical references, history, and significance. If I can ship several bags to you on Monday – would that be too late??? We devote 100% of our profits to charity. Let me know if it is too late – we would love to help!!!!!

DESTINY - I would love to donate a couple of paintings on canvas. I’ll email for the details!

abby - Bracelets and necklaces are packaged and ready to go in the mail Monday morning. I’m hoping I’ll get a few minutes to make a couple baby slings…
Can’t wait for the shop to open so I can start Christmas shopping!

MW - We’re making flower fairies – we made them for fun last year and when friends saw them on our blog they wanted them for themselves. The are fussy to make, which makes selling them for a purpose all the more meaningful! Fabulous!

Kait - I’m not crafty at all.
But we are adopting two little boys from Lesotho, Africa and would love to buy two of those shirts for my daughters to wear when their brothers come home. If you make them for boys I’m really tempted to buy some for them too, even though we’re not entirely sure what size they’ll be.
Incidentally, when you went to Africa I was the winning bid on the Puddin Pop Kids doll that you auctioned. It sits in our daughter’s bedroom while we wait on our adoption to finish. Every night the girls pray for their brothers and hug the doll and tell him to take it to their brothers. It’s the sweetest thing in the world.

melissa @ the inspired room - Winston just got a bath today because he STUNK. No fleas, thank goodness, just a smelly hound. He is so white and fluffy now, he is happy because we will pet him again.

Karen - I love that you said “Can’t anything just be easy?” That is the day I am having this month (hee hee). I just wanted to replace the blinds in my two kids’ rooms. Easy right? Wrong. After now 4 trips to the store, I am unable to get the screws in, have to grind off the edges for one window (31″ too small and fall out–32″ too big! Aargh!), then to top it all off, the drill bit totally just broke off IN then hole!! I said something naughty and gave up. The biggest problem is, it’s probably easier to solve this myself than have to get hubby to help. H-E-L-P! CAN’T ANYTHING JUST BE EASY!?! This is going into its third week now. Your post made me feel I’m not alone. 🙂

Susan - VERY cute! I am so sorry about the fleas. We are battling a case of them in our house, as well. Just when we thought they were gone, a friend of my daughter’s found one on her leg. Gross! Cassy - I have loved Waffle ever since the first time I saw him on your blog. A year after our previous dog passed, we were ready for a new, four-legged family member. I showed my family (and anyone who would look) your adorable pooch in my campaign for a Goldendoodle. Now we have Mickey! He has his own, unique look and personality, but we’re just crazy about him!

Jen Christians - Poor Waffle… Poor Meg!!!!!!!! I found a flea on my dog once and my husband came home to find every piece of fabric/washable item, in the kitchen awaiting the washer and dryer…. AND an exterminator…Needless to say, the exterminator told my husband that I must be a hypochondriac, and that I “over exaggerated the emergency” OOPS… but yet, GROSS… I guess the only thing worse would be a house full of kids with head lice (luckily we have avoided that so far). We now use comfortis it is a pill and we have never had any problems. Good Luck!

Staci - I am liking the red and white polka dot the best too 😀 That Waffle…I do love him so 🙂 Hey, just a question….do you keep him on Frontline all year long?? We live on 30 acres and I have my little Westie on it all year and don’t have any trouble at all with fleas or ticks. Just a thought 🙂 Good luck! Fleas are NO fun!!!!

Tracie - We use k9 advantix on our dog and she has never had fleas or ticks. We used to put it on her monthly from April – October, but we just moved and live with a lot of trees in our yard now so we’ll probably do it all year just to protect her. Waffle looks so cute with his collars!

Robin - I read something in January…”Be Kinder than necessary for 90% of the people you meet have worse things going on in their lives at that very moment”…I thought 90% was a HUGE # and not sure I agree with the statistic…however…if even 50% of the people I meet on any given day have worse problems than mine it made me stop and think about how truly blessed I really am! Since then I have chose to show LOVE each and every day…whether it is to my own family…the check out girl or the car driver in front of me! It hasn’t always been easy and I have had to offer a ton of prayers to keep focused! But it has put me in a different place in my life..a place that I am quite thankful for!!

It wasn’t until I met my wonderful husband that I began to change my thinking. It helps to change my thinking and my mood and to see someone happy. I also try to remember my plan is not the plan…my life is going to be whatever God has in store.

nancy - When my thinking gets :-/ or my day is going terribly, I remind myself of PLANTR. …whatever things are pure, lovely, admirable, noble, true and right, think on these things. I even shared that with my children in the car the other day.
And, I try to think of person to go with each:
Pure — my little boy
Lovely — my little girl
Admirable — the way my Mom battled ovarian cancer
Noble — the way my husband takes care of us and lives with integrity
True — my husband and I as one
Right — the way we try to live for Christ as a family
Having that little acronym has helped me for many years.

I also have to remind myself to be intentional about recognizing the good things, in the midst of all of the ‘bad’ things. It’s all part of the path. Valerie Page - Whenever something bad happens to someone in our family or a close friend, I always tell them to think, “This too shall pass.” My mom has been saying that to me for years. Nichole - Generally, I just tell people that being positive confuses the world and often runs off people who can’t stand to hear the positives. If you smile and always tell people “it’ll be okay!” when they come to you and complain, either they use the support or run of screaming because you aren’t complaining with them.

Sarah - Postive thinking, eh? Somedays that is harder than others. I try to remind my girls just how thoughtful they are and when they share with each other, I try to point out how kind that is. It doesn’t happen often but when it does I want to encourage it.

Ashley - A friend of mine has had a broken foot for the last 12 weeks and has been having a hard time dealing with all the difficulties that come along with that. We were just reminding each other the other day that even when you feel your lowest, the glass is indeed half full.

Ella - I used to be a half full person several years ago. Some tragic events unfolded regarding DH’s DD due to a less than sane Ex. It changed DH and I more than we’d like to admit to sometimes. But we’re forging a new life and moving on as with our new family. This would be a lovely sentiment to help remind us (especially my DD) that not all of life is half empty. My most recent sentiments repeated to our children is “be nice or be quiet” and “share your happy, it’s catching”! Many lovely options, looking forward to collecting “Live Simply” and “Give Good”.

Dawn - My oldest daughter is in college and I find myself around test time which seems to be every week this year to …Pray, believe, and to keep calm and carry on, you are smart, etc. and sure enough evertying turns out well. But it’s hard when they are away and they call and you can hear the pain, fear in their voice. You have to be positive for them.

Laura - My husband and I continually tell ourselves and our children “treat others as you would want to be treated…” especially during the hardest of times.

Routhie - Karma. It reminds me not to give up on myself or other people. Recently, my 4yo daughter was separated from my husband at the Philly zoo on an extremely busy day for almost 30 mins. I was at home cleaning and felt helpless, but immediately reminded myself that there *are* good people out there. A young couple found her; the husband notified security while the wife sat with her. I wish my husband would have gotten their number or something so I could have thanked them. I told my daughter she met some angels that day.

ok…today is better than the past two have been.
i feel relieved by that.
the pool is filling up.
the rain is gone.
the boys' nerf guns have been confiscated.
i think we are going to make it.

i received a shirt in the mail….and i love it.

some questions were asked about the summer list yesterday…i will clarify.
 
*WORLDS OF FUN is an amusement park with roller coasters in kansas city.
*PEPPERNUTS are little spice cookies…we love to eat them but i have never made them.
 here is a website about them.  
 they are a mennonite thing…craig has mennonite
 roots and so does our hometown.
*a BLOCK PARTY is a street party with our neighborhood (our block).
*the FROGGIE POOL is our public pool…it has a frog shaped slide.
*DEMO DERBY is the mud pit where cars crash into each other…that we pay money to watch!

we bought journals yesterday and the three youngest were so pumped about it.
they filled up the front already with stories and stickers.  
very sweet.

molls - De-lurking to say Hi! from another Kansas girl (great grandparents lived in Walton) who LOVES peppernuts. I’m the only one in our family who still attempts to make them. I don’t even have the recipe that got me hooked – I like the tiny, dense version. But, I have found some good recipes out there that approximate the flavor, at least. I will say that it is always more tedious than I remember – so many tiny cookies! Make the dough and freeze half for later …

Kat - Love your list Meg which has inspired us to do our own here as two weeks of hols are starting in Tasmania, Australia. (about to start winter though, not a lovely long summer.)

Charity - I grew up in Mennonite country, too, and LOVE peppernuts. I have this great little book, titled simply, Peppernuts, full of recipes. It’s amazing how many variations there are. Yum. We always make them around the end of November, so they’re ready and tasy for Christmas.

Chris Harms - enjoying your blog. I make peppernuts (pfeffernusse) at Christmas time by the icecream-pailful. Some people roll them out, I use a piping bag and squeeze them onto the pan… not as uniform, but faster by far. Good luck with them! I’m going to attempt a summer list. Saskatchewan may not sport the biggest or fanciest theme parks or zoo’s, but I’m sure we can find a few ways to spice up the summer. Thanks for the ideas!
