our christmas

so i wanted to start the new year blog posts with something thoughtful and inspiring.
but…
all my kids are home.
and i have had MAYBE four hours of alone time in the last 15 days.
so there is nothing in my brain to share that is thoughtful or inspiring.
blank.
i’m hoping for some goal setting & inspiration starting on tuesday morning.

IMG_0016
i kept my christmas decor much less than previous years.
a little but not overkill.

IMG_0024IMG_0040IMG_0211
my Lindsay Letters canvas is my new favorite piece!

IMG_0215
talby and annie worked together and made their first cheesecake for their gift to craig for christmas.
he said it was the best gift he’s ever gotten.
🙂
Pam’s  Cheesecake is SO CRAZY GOOD!

every christmas eve we have the tradition (like many others) of new pajamas.
i try to set them out before we leave for church and then everyone gets comfy when we get back.
this year they got slippers too.
AND craig i got his first pair of pj pants and slippers too!
he finally gets what all the hype is about!
ha ha ha
but they was our first year to attempt matching jammies for the girls since all 3 can wear women’s sizes now.
whaaaaat?

IMG_0241IMG_0236
back to talking about church though… christmas eve church is such a beautiful thing!
i ALWAYS need it.
every year.
no matter how “together” i think i have it because usually i am exhausted & barely holding it together by christmas eve.
i am always caught up in the gifts and the busy-ness even though i fight it like crazy.
and i admit almost every year i convince myself that i don’t need to go… i’m too busy… i have too much to do.
but we go and once again christmas eve church service brings it all back into perspective.
jesus is why we are doing all this celebrating.
my heart is filled.
we watched all our holiday movies that we love… Elf, Home Alone, Christmas Vacation and It’s a Wonderful Life over the week leading up to christmas. That is one of my favorite traditions.
i love movies.
(sidenote: recently i was having a conversation about a movie i went to and the person said “i don’t really believe in going to movies”.  i was speechless.  it wasn’t a religious thing… just they don’t like movies.  i had no words.  because I. LOVE. MOVIES!)

christmas morning.
we started with breakfast that craig made… bubble loaf and egg casserole.
and a BIG coffee with a candy cane and whipped cream for me.

last year i shared their stockings after christmas but i forgot to take those pics this year.
but here is a run down of some things:
GIRLS – coconut shampoo, toothbrush, make-up brushes, notebook, face wash, coffee, bath poof, mascara, eye brow pencil, chapstick, undies, socks, hair chalk, shower speaker, frappacino and Ramen

BOYS: socks, ski mask, socks, notebook, an air pump, nose shaped pencil sharpener, shower speaker, hostess cupcake, underwear, Nutella, gatorade gum and Ramen.
IMG_0274IMG_0289
instead of legos and dolls… they ask for shoes, a bean bag, a bike and a 10 piece pots& pans set.
🙂

IMG_0293IMG_0294IMG_0410annie picked this mug for me.  (heart eyes!)

now that the kids are older they also pick their own gifts for their siblings.
i really really like to see them pick things out, wrap them up and then see how proud they are to give their gifts.
i think that is my new favorite part of christmas morning.

Stephanie Wilson - Movies are my FAVORITE. I have a 20 movie to do list just from all the best of 2015 articles I can’t stop reading! I love your pictures, they always make me happy. And your beautiful nails are shaming me into doing mine.

Emily - Meg…so glad to see you are blogging more lately. You add a smile to my day!

jennibell - I enjoy reading your blog so much because we seem to be in the same stage of life. I loved your comment about allowing the kids to pick each other’s gifts. This is the first year that ours really did that and did it on their own and with their own money. I was so pleased to see how they just “get” one another. They picked out some really great gifts for one another.
thank you for sharing your Christmas! I will be checking in with you and following along throughout 2016. Happy new year!

amy jupin - sure wish you would have posted your decorating pics earlier so i could steal all the ideas!
btw, the stocking ideas were PERFECT this year.
and cheesecake as a gift? BRilLAnT!

Sabrina - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thanks for sharing your lovely pictures and traditions. I love movies too, especially going to the movies. I have several friends who say things like, “I just don’t get the whole going to the movies thing”. WHAT?!!! It’s shocking to hear that. We don’t get out to movies as much as we like because our kids are so little, so it’s a really big deal when we do get out to one. Otherwise we watch movies almost every night.

Michele - Sounds like you had a lovely Christmas. My favorite part of Christmas this year is also watching my kids excitement in giving to their siblings. So sweet!

Amy - Aww…thanks for sharing your Christmas! It looks like so much fun! I felt the same way about going to church on Christmas Eve. I’m so glad we went, though. I always love it! Best to you and your sweet family in 2016!

what we are up to…

IMG_9790
i got these huge barn doors a few weeks ago.
i finally had time to start cleaning them up to bring them inside my house!
i scrubbed for several hours with hot, HOT water and bleach and by the end i was soaked!
but they look great!
i had craig & sean bring them in annnnnnnd there were some problems  with an outlet so for now they are back in the garage until we can figure out how to solve the issue.  BUMMER!
but it WILL be solved.
for sure.

basketball has started!
my favorite season all year!!!
even if we end up with games on monday, tuesday, thursday, friday and all weekend long.
oy veh!
sean is playing too but i guess i haven’t gotten a picture of him just yet.
he actually plays the most… JV game and then the freshman game and then sits on the varsity bench.
his tuesdays and fridays and long!
but until january we are on break from basketball and i am happy to have that break.
🙂
IMG_9874IMG_9655
my girlfriends and i got together for the Jingle Bell Run again this year.
we walked it.
🙂
but it still counts.

IMG_9650
my favorite part of the race day tradition is the afternoon at the spa!
IMG_9656IMG_9678
IMG_9663craig took me to see Garth Brooks!!!
he isn’t a big fan but knew a lot of the songs.
i was IN HEAVEN!
i knew every word to every song.
the entire arena did too!
it was SO MUCH FUN!
and i think craig enjoyed it too – if for no other reason than laughing at me singing at the top of my lungs for 2.5 hours.

IMG_9635
oh waffle.
he needs another bath already.

IMG_0095
i took annie to do her christmas shopping and some one-on-one time.
she had been talking about trying to get her ears pierced again occasionally over the last month.
so we went to claire’s to christmas shop and i suggested trying it that day.
oh boy.
it was an ordeal.
she had a million questions for the sweet girl working the front of the store.
talby called me as she was trying to decide and gave annie a pep talk.
her face was still white as a ghost as she said “ok… let’s do it”
but then that sweet girl working figured out that only one of her holes had grown closed and she was able to get it open again without using the gun!  annie was SO RELIEVED!
we finishend our shopping in the mall and headed to starbucks.
and i had the best peppermint latte i have ever had!
what a great day!
IMG_0099IMG_0106IMG_0068
lauren moved to a different apartment so before her utilities were turned on her geckos needed a warm house to sleep in.
yay.
ha ha ha.
how creepy could they look?!
such weirdos.
IMG_9918
annie had friends over & i dumped out a box of ALLLL the left over christmas crafts and said “have fun!”
they definitely did.

IMG_9984
and this…. i mean how adorable is this?!
scott was making his girlfriend a special bracelet.
he did a great job.
phone2
i thought all these pictures were so funny and random….. these 18 pictures are all pics that i have texted people the past week or so.
HA HA HA
all different reasons… but almost always for a laugh. phoneIMG_9373
the kids put up the tree again this year and completely decorated it.
i have no problems handing that job over.
none at all.

thanksgiving day selfies.

IMG_9434 2IMG_9703
a friend sent me these cookies from Reina Cookies.
OH MY WORD!!
seriously you guys… the oatmeal raisin was the best cookie of my life.
i am not exaggerating.
what a GREAT gift!  If you are looking for a sweet idea… this is it!
i felt so loved.

renee - they put up the tree. omg. i am in heaven dreaming about 12 years from now when that will be me. don’t get me wrong – i love my littles but teens are my jam (used to teach high school). i hear it’s all kinds of different stress and problems – everything is bigger than poop at that age. but them doing the christmas tree …. that sounds amazing.

Annette - Where did you get your tree… it looks so real! I always want a real tree but not the mess. I’ve been looking for a fake tree that looks real…they are hard to find! Thanks! Annette

Jenn B - I always love your posts and your photos! It’s fun to see what is going on in your life. You always have interesting this to share. Seems like you all have had a wonderful end to your year. Praise God!

Donna - I love your tree. It looks just like mine; not all styled or themed but full of special ornaments from the past 20 years.

laura oyler - I have been looking for shoes like those wedge booties with the laces…where did you find those??

jen - I think one of my favorite things about my kids getting older is not having to decorate for Christmas because they do it all. Never ever thought I’d feel that way but boy do I ever!!
Merry Christmas to you!

Rebecca Torzewski - Oh my gosh, I saw that XL wine glass at Kohl’s and almost got it as a gag gift, and I love that picture of the older couple, so sweet. Talby IS definitely your mini-you! She is really growing up, all your kids are. Tell Annie I know how she feels with the pierced ears not working out, I decided to get mine double pierced for fun (I’m a lot older though, LOL), and the holes wouldn’t take no matter how much I cleaned them and had to end up taking the earrings out, it was an awful experience, not like I remember when I was 8 or 9 with my first ones. Have a wonderful holiday season. Thanks for 2015 full of great blogs :), really enjoy them.

Lisa Risse - Hi Meg!
I so enjoy your blog! My 3 kids are your kiddos’ age and we live very similar lives!
I so hope to meet you in person someday – as my sister and I are on your wait list for craft weekend!…..MAYBE this year! 🙂

I saw the pic of your son making a bracelet for his girlfriend – so sweet! Can you give me a good tip on what stamp set you really like and where I can get the metal blanks with the pre-drilled holes? (I’ve started to play around with rivets and I’d love to play with those blanks!)

Thanks so much and Merry Christmas, Lisa

Kerri Lynne - I have always thought Hesston schools have such excellent facilities – and love the banner photos of the seniors. That’s a great idea. The random photos gave me a chuckle, especially the Dorothy/Toto one… showing my age that I know that Toto song! Merry Christmas to the Duerksens!

sharon / theprincipledtype.blogspot.com - i freakin Love walking a run. 🙂 🙂 🙂

and, please? -the story for the granny panties that look freshly washed and belonging to you?? i’m not judging. (believe me, i am not judging, lol!!)

Kelly - AHHH! I know Reina. THE Reina! 🙂 Her cookies are AMAZING! And she is the kindest. I have given them as gifts for the past many years, and we always like to keep some in our freezer, for us.

Kathie M. - Such a fun post!! I miss basketball, looks like it will be another fun year!! Merry Christmas to you and your family!!

Emily L - I have never commented but man alive, I gasped when I saw the garth pics!!!! I am the biggest fan of that man and he has yet to show up in New Mexico where I live!!!!! I bet you had the best time. I love these random posts and your blog!!!

Kathi - I love your random posts. Those BARN DOORS! Can’t wait to see where you are going to put them 🙂 Merry Christmas to you and your family!

anniversary perfection!

back in september, on our 21st anniversary craig gave me a card that said he was taking me on a trip on Nov. 18.
he told me to bring a swimsuit and a book.
and that was it.
i never asked for details once!  🙂
craig loves to plan!
he loves to think about all the things you could do when you visit a new place.
he is really good at details.
he is a people person and can handle people & noise together easily.
his brain can take in lots of information and make decisions.
i dislike planning.
i like to do practically NO things when i go away from my house… meaning i like to sit & relax & just BE with those i am traveling with.
i don’t need or enjoy tours or crowds or small talk or corny stuff.
basically… i prefer very little human interaction on a vacation from anyone who is not ON the trip with me.
(i sound ridiculous!)
i cannot make decisions with lots of information…. i shut down.

i say all that because he took in all that he knows about me and made THE BEST trip ever!
i felt so loved & seen & understood & beyond special.
it brought me to tears many times.
we have been through a lot in 21 years and this was complete paradise for us.
the best week of our entire marriage!
we were like newlyweds but so much better because we KNOW we can get through hard stuff… we’ve done it.
and we just like each other so darn much!

plane
we left our house at 4:15 am and traveled all day ending up in Tortola, an island in the British Virgin Islands.
we picked up our rental car… stopped at a grocery store for some food (which was a good hint that we weren’t going to a resort and i was happy to hear that) and then we found our house.
and i nearly died from extreme J O Y.
i mean… whaaaaaattt?
is this real life?!
am i oprah?!
IMG_8535IMG_8539IMG_8576IMG_8551IMG_8558IMG_8543PicMonkey CollageIMG_8586house
IMG_8712showerhousedetailsIMG_8585

craig is AMAZING!
he is amazing at lots of things but he is a PRO at using vrbo.com and that is how he found this place.
it was an absolute DREAM!
perfect for just two people.
excellent for those seeking quiet and rest.
and SO CRAZY beautiful in every way.

IMG_8554IMG_8936this was the view from every window!
no other houses around.
and about 3 minutes from the prettiest beach we’d ever seen!
IMG_8588
all the furniture was like this… heart eyes!!!
IMG_8688IMG_8555IMG_8926lizardIMG_8599
we took the house manager’s advice and took our 4WD car waaaay down to this beach.
the roads in Tortola are… wild.
i have never driven on anything like it.
SO steep!
or not even a road… just a dirt trail with huge ruts in it.
also… no street signs.
none!
and they drive on the “wrong side of the road”!
craig loved the challenge of all of those things and i was completely happy to attempt to navigate based on possible familiar landmarks.
IMG_8691IMG_8676
one other couple on this entire beach came as we were leaving.
they asked us to take their picture in the water with a #12 flag (Seahawks) and in return they took this photo of us.  🙂

IMG_8652IMG_8647IMG_8608IMG_8683
and then… we found out our 4WD wasn’t working!
two local surfers were coming to check the waves and attempted to help us… it was a no go.
that #12 couple eventually came back up that “road” and gave us a ride back up to the house.
everyone was super nice and helpful!
even the car rental people who just brought us another car that afternoon with working 4WD.
it’s close to impossible to drive there without it.

IMG_8982

IMG_8816IMG_8825
my favorite detail of the house was waking up in the morning and opening all the windows and doors right away.
and climbing back into bed for awhile.
the sounds of the ocean & birds and all the plants everywhere.
the breeze blowing through the whole house…
sighhhhhhhh.
IMG_8856IMG_8860
we found the world’s prettiest basketball court.

IMG_8882IMG_8886
we took a ferry over to Peter Island.
it’s private and only has the Peter Island resort on it.
if you sit in these chairs and raise the flag… a waiter comes to your lounge chair!!!
craziness.
it was a lovely place to spend the day.

IMG_8887FullSizeRender 24
we both read a lot during this trip.
i read Everyday Grace and craig read a gigantic book called Wooden: A Coach’s Life all about basketball.
gosh i love that guy.  🙂
and he really truly loves… basketball.
and me too i guess.

HA!

IMG_8890IMG_8768
on one beach i stopped and bought a coconut.
i drank the water in it and then they chopped it up with a machete and gave me the pulp to eat.
i had never had fresh coconut!
it was so much better than coconut in a bag from the grocery store! (duh!)
IMG_8904IMG_8912
we went out to eat the first night and after that i asked if we could just cook at our house.
because that house was PERFECT and there was no reason to leave it!
i was craving quiet SO much and even a restaurant was too many people for me.
i wanted good food on the deck with my favorite person.
and wine.

IMG_8911
here we are halfway through our trip…
look what just three days away from regular life does to our faces?!
who are those young happy carefree people???
five kids? who has five kids? surely not those people up there.  🙂

IMG_8986
we went snorkeling at Peter Island.
It was like swimming in a fish tank at RainForest Cafe.  HA!
it didn’t seem real… the only time i see that kind of sea life is at the zoo or theme restaurants.
i saw a sea turtle but when i tried to get craig’s attention i scared it away.
but can i say that there might not be anything less graceful than putting on snorkeling gear… the flippers!!

rocksIMG_9021
look who found me a heart rock in the BVIs?!!!

IMG_9025
there are wild chickens EVERYWHERE you go in Tortola.
on every road… every beach… every restaurant.
i felt completely at home!  ha ha ha!  🙂
drink
we watched about 25 surfers and it was so interesting!
We had never seen that in real life either.
(kansas doesn’t have much surfing…)
and basically we concurred that SURFING IS AWESOME.
we had major respect for them because we were both grossed out every time the ocean water got on our lips!
so the deep swimming and wave crashing and total hard work was really cool to watch.
my little phone camera couldn’t capture it though… i wished i had a big zoom lens.

IMG_9029cow
ummm… your cow is loose.
IMG_9043FullSizeRender 21IMG_9086IMG_9076
different surfers on a different day at the empty beach near our house.
they came on that boat and got off and started surfing!
IMG_9080
it felt like we were on Lost.
everyday.
IMG_9095IMG_9112
and that’s how big the surf was….his board cracked in half!

that day we decided to not try the road we had gotten stuck on the first day.
so we walked it.
i mean… HIKED it.
think of a treadmill incline at it’s highest level… that was this road… but worse.
IMG_9116IMG_9129
and the second we reached our car at the top it started to pour!
IMG_9136
ummm… your sheep are loose.

it appeared to be a thing.
livestock roaming freely where ever they please.
BVIflowerIMG_9169
on our last day we took a boat to Virgin Gorda to see the baths.
WOW.
again… it did not seem like it could be a real place!
it was the most beautiful place imaginable!
FullSizeRender 20FullSizeRender 16IMG_9173IMG_9198IMG_9210IMG_9212IMG_9222IMG_9260IMG_9261IMG_9264
that night we ate the best meal we’ve had maybe… ever?
it was a restaurant in Virgin Gorda called Coco Maya.
it could be because i was literally so hungry that i almost cried when we sat down.
for real.
(and maybe i did cry… but just a little)
but i think it was the best tasting food as well.
It was a tapas restaurant but it also served one entree… pad thai.
YES!
it was so good and i have thought of it everyday since we came back!
the restaurant was gorgeous too…it was ON the beach… open air… no windows… just perfect.
this pic is from their website.  it was dark when we were there and completely packed.

it was the best week!!!

an open letter to mr. duerksen:

craig –
you made me feel like luckiest girl in the whole world.
i mean it!
how can 21 years seem so short?
thank you for every minute of planning you did & every dollar you spent.
thanks for not thinking I’m a weirdo for not wanting to be around people & for cooking my own food.
or at least for not saying it.
and thank you SO MUCH for the gift of quiet and relaxation.
we needed it!
i’m so glad you’re mine.
let’s go back next week!!!
-mrs. duerksen

IMG_9301

airportthen it was time to travel home.
sad face.
not because we didn’t miss our kids… but because kansas isn’t an island!!!
and that is a total drag!
why isn’t it?  why don’t we live on Tortola?!
reality.
we went right back into it.
complete with an ice storm the next day!
oh kansas… you’re dumb and i’m not speaking to you right now.
call me when you get an ocean.

Lori - I LOVED going through these photos Meg! Beautiful doesn’t even do it justice. I’m so happy you got to take that trip. What an incredible gift 🙂

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - Oh Meg – this looks amazing! I’m so happy for you!

Janelle - You were in my backyard! I can see Tortola from my house! And no ones cow or goats are loose – they are all just free roaming. I have two random cows in my driveway right now. Stinky things.

Tammy - If Craig ever wants to plan a trip for an old married couple, we are going on 22 years and 4 kids:) He is hired! Way to go!

But the next USA trip booked for October 2016, is JUST ME!! So no big houses needed. Just room for one. And I’m more than a bit excited to have scheduled a few day stop in Kansas on my way between Upstate New York and Los Angeles. I might not get to Craft Weekend but I am going to at least get to see Kansas and that makes me happy 🙂

Jenny B. - I love it!

Tiffany - A vacation sounds lovely right about now, Congratulations on your 21 years!

Cheryl - Were you married straight out of the womb? Neither of you look old enough to be married for TWENTY ONE years! Do you have the fountain of youth in Kansas? Me = Envious. Can your husband call my husband and give him all the details of that trip? Please and thank you.

🙂

Jenn - How unbelievably awesome! You are one lucky girl! Beautiful pictures.

Rachel - I’ve literally been waiting for you to blog about this so I could live vicariously through you. So incredibly happy for you. The house reminds me of the one in The Thomas Crowne Affair. And the 12’s? My people! 😊

Carol Spenst - Reading this post was like a breath of fresh island air. The pictures are stunning, and it truly does look like an amazing place – so glad y’all had a great getaway!

Iris Brown - I went through a bunch of emotions reading this post from sheer envy to the warm fuzzies in the end with your letter to Craig. I live in Minnesota so I can definitely relate to your issues with Kansas. Thanks so much for sharing & blessings to you and your family this Christmas. 🙂

November Craft Weekend

it seems like a long time ago but just two weeks ago we had our last craft weekend of 2015.
it was a wonderful end to the year.
FullSizeRender 27IMG_8219IMG_7841IMG_8178
the names of 15 beautiful women i got to meet!

the house was all prepped and ready.
kimberlee had delicious food baking all day on friday.FullSizeRender 29IMG_7439 3IMG_7257 3IMG_7840IMG_8152IMG_8375IMG_9504
the fall weather was putting on a show in kansas that week.
IMG_8125IMG_8234
we love our wonderful sponsors!
I will share the details on their wonderful products very soon!

kimberlee made a wonderful dinner and i passed out the margaritas as soon as our guests arrived.
IMG_8237IMG_8238
we eat together and then as soon as we’re done we dive right into crafting!
because it’s CRAFT weekend!

IMG_8240IMG_8245
we always have ladies who sew for their very first time at CW.
it’s pretty special to get to be a par too that.
sewing is one of my favorite ways to create!
IMG_8376IMG_9524IMG_9499
i love to see the combinations at every single weekend.
I’ve never seen a duplicate after all these years!
they are each unique and sooooo pretty!
IMG_9520FullSizeRender 36
another yummy meal with Kimberlee before we headed out to antique the day away.

IMG_8301
this mug came home with me but the chicken statue did not.
the statue looks huge but it’s actually just a little bigger than an actual chicken.
i thought about it for quite awhile but then decided that in reality my chickens would just climb onto it and poop all over it.
and there is enough poop already.
no need to call more attention to it with a big statue.

a fall walk

kansas has such a beautiful fall season with the best temperatures.
but we know how soon it will change from the colorful leaves to everything dead and brown.
so we got outside this past weekend and we brought the dogs.
IMG_4565IMG_4575IMG_4577IMG_4591IMG_4580IMG_4585IMG_4662IMG_4600IMG_4606IMG_4612IMG_4615IMG_8001IMG_4623IMG_4617IMG_4633IMG_8023IMG_4665IMG_4640IMG_4631IMG_4646IMG_4647IMG_4659IMG_4666IMG_4673IMG_8021IMG_7739IMG_7753IMG_4669IMG_7754IMG_7756IMG_8016
you’d have thought those dogs had NEVER been outside before?!

of all the leaves, my favorite trees are always the red ones.

all the things.

so much goes on everyday.
i know it’s true at your house as well.
we are at games several nights a week… JV and middle school and high school.
there’s church on wednesday nights.
and annie’s games on saturdays.
but i sure do like all of it.IMG_6164IMG_5292IMG_6547scott had a catch at the homecoming game a few weeks back that was really fun and wild.
he even made it on the local news  🙂IMG_4478

video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo playerFullSizeRender 7IMG_5296
the catch was lots of fun for Scott but in that game the highlight for MOM was when Sean was sent into the game while Scott was still on the field!
up till then they were playing at separate times… if sean went in it was because the score was so high they took the seniors out and started playing the underclassmen.
but in that game… BOTH my boys played together for a long time.
i am LOVING IT!!!
i love to have them both out there together – freshman and senior.
heart eyes! heart eyes! heart eyes!
i still have no idea what is going on… but that is probably not going to change.
my brain can only hold so much & i don’t think football rules/stats/plays are going to be moving in there anytime soon.

subject change:  i cleaned my closet out. it was redonk and i couldn’t wait another minute. 4 bags donated… everything organized…. i was so happy to have it done.closetthe left side was my finished product until i found the perfect shoe holders for my space.
I got 2 of the ClosetMaid Stackable 15 Cube Organizer and stood them up the longer way to fit between my box of cardigans and my box of heels that i MAY wear again but probably won’t ever actually wear again.
and i hung my boots on hangers?!!closet2and shortly after kicking it in my closet – i took over the craft room/catch everything room at the Craft House.craftroompeople keep asking if i am reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up but i am not.
this is all just out of my need for some decluttering.
too much junk and stuff… and apparently that what that book talks about.
it seems like everyone is reading it!
maybe i should read it too?

IMG_6156IMG_5110talby’s team did fabulous in volleyball this season.
i cannot believe they are done already! it’s her favorite sport.
i know that every year they just just get better and better… i can’t wait to watch her smash it as a high schooler!IMG_5312
annie’s 5th grade team – adorable!
talby helped out with the coaching a little bit and really loved that too.IMG_6587IMG_5613
fall has hit us in kansas. it’s warm in the afternoon but chilly in the morning and evenings.
i think the leaves will go crazy by next week.orangeIMG_6828meIMG_7170last night we had Snack Dinner.
what’s in the fridge/freezer/pantry?  pull it all out… snack dinner!quatroIMG_6813this is a scene from real life right here.
dinner is started… people are talking & eating… boys fresh from football practice – no shirts… messy table… all the good stuff.dogswaffle and stanley are majorly dorky dogs. they love treats more than anything. they can get some air!unoi saw these magnets and was cracking up!PicMonkey CollageIMG_6231tresthe Craft house paint job continues. craig and our boys are changing out the purple for navy. i can’t believe we lasted ten years in a purple trimmed out house?! ten years is enough. navy trim for the win… in two years when it’s done. jay kay. it’s a huge job though… definitely going to take quite a while.  chairi found this chair last week at our thrift shop.
it was soft… comfy… in mint condition… and only $20. sold. it’s living at the Craft House.
i am dreaming up making a personal creative studio in the big room on the 3rd floor and that is where i want that chair. 🙂FullSizeRender 13FullSizeRender 14beautiful isn’t it?   HA HA HA!
i can see all the potential there though.
SO MUCH POTENTIAL!!!
another project that will take lots of work but i love dreaming about it.

Ayca - I simply love your striped mug! It’s so you 🙂

KWolff - I’m pretty sure you just summed up my entire world in one post. Football, soccer, band, volleyball, choir, work, home improvement projects…that’s all I have going on these days. Sometimes I honestly feel like I have to think hour by hour instead of day by day. My boss laughs at me because she never knows what I’ll be doing at the end of the day. I know that I will look back on it someday and miss it all. So I’m doing my best now to enjoy it, even on the days/nights that it’s pouring rain and the short people are cranky.
Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one! 🙂

mollie's mom - When we pull out whatever is in the fridge we say we are having CORN. What’s for dinner? CORN! Clean Out Refrigerator Night!!
And I loooove that big empty attic space… the potential!!

Erica - I’m love your blog! Never commented before but have to know where you bought your red shoes?!

Julie - Oh that studio space – drooling here -it will look absolutely fabulous.

amy jupin - these are my favorite posts.
i dig the random.
that’s where the real is.
and i miss you like a crazy person.

Leslie - Hello- Thanks for always posting such great stuff. I look forward to your happy colorful pictures, the inspiration it gives, and the real life element. So many blogs are pretty and staged, it’s nice to see teenager life in action. 🙂 And that chair! Oh man, if ONLY I could find those treats at my thrift stores. I keep telling my husband I want to fly to Kansas to go thrift shopping. He thinks I’m nuts. 🙂

Jan - Meg,

Love, love, love your posts. I would love to hear in a post how maintenance has been for you after the diet plan you followed with those containers. Are you still doing that or what are you eating these days? You look fabulous. I have lost weight before but never ever maintained it. I always put it right back on. I would love to hear your story or tips.

Tiffany - Great catch, talk about timing!

Jen - I just love you and look forward to your posts. Thank you for spreading joy, for keeping it real, for keeping it colorful, for being awesome. I saw my cousin and her husband this summer. Her husband is the one whose grandparents used to own the craft house and where his dad grew up. Do you know what the Dody family used to use that 3rd floor for?!

Tiffany Day - you are amazing and delightful!
love peaking into your life!!

xo

Katie Skiff - This is why I love your blog. Ypur life sounds just like mine. Ha. I think I may actually know what they are doing at fotball, and they make some crazy call that never gets explaine. Lol.

Diane - I read your blog every single day – LOVE IT!! So beautiful, inspiring and real. THANK YOU! I don’t normally comment but had to today. I LOVE FOOTBALL. So I just had to say, that was an AWESOME, AWESOME catch!! It’s like be pulled an Odell Beckham!! Awesome job, kiddo!!!

Suzanne - Love the cleaning of the closet – it is on my list to do this week. But I need to finish recovering 3 more (had 7 total) camper cushions and make 3 roman shades. I think cleaning sounds more appealing especially since neither of the sewing projects are for me. Anyway, desperate question – please! What are the leggings you buy? Cannot find where you put it in your previous posts. Thanks a ton!
