operation christmas child

this is a project our family loves to take part in.

i used to bring my kids with me to shop for the gifts that go in the boxes
but i don't do that anymore….it was too crazy.
and they want to buy EVERY thing.

now i buy things throughout the year when they go on sale…..school supplies especially.
but i also buy a bunch the last month alongside my groceries.
and store it until i am ready to fill our boxes.

we watch the video on samaritanspurse.org.  (the same one that is posted above)
IMG_4120
and i cry.   every.  single.  time.

my kids say "are you crying?!!!"
of course i am.
it's heartbreaking.

then my kids fill the boxes.
IMG_4131

each of them made a card for their box.

IMG_4136
we add a family photo and our address if they would like to or are able to write back.

this year we will donate online so we can see exactly where our boxes go.
AWESOME!

our church collects them and then drives them to a collection center.
you can look HERE to see where the nearest collection center is to you.

i wish i had posted this earlier to give you more time to get supplies.
this week is the collection week.
it's not too late!
you could do it all in one shopping trip…today!
or any time this week.
you can do it.

go to samaritanspurse.org for any information.
it's ALL there.

Mary - I know this comment is late…late… I had a very long thanksgiving. 🙂 But I wanted to say “thanks” for packing boxes. I got to see kids recieve boxes and it’s awesome. I worked at a childrens home in thailand for a few years and we got Operation Christms Child – SO FUN! (thanks on behalf of the kids!!) Have a Merry Christmas! Love -Mary

Tara M. - I cried. We packed three. We sent them. Love this!

Jen D. - The MOPS group that I attend participates in OCC every year. Today our table put together one for a little boy. It was so much fun to bring in what we could and see what we could cram into the shoe box. Every year we play the DVD from Samaritan’s Purse and I cry every year. We have so much here and I often struggle to focus on the blessings. Thanks for the inspiration and you fabulous blog. Warmly, Jen D.

Holly - I love this! I am going to check it out. Breaks my heart that kids are excited to get toothpaste! =( Toothpaste should just be a necessity! Makes my heart break!

jennibell - Thanks for the link Megan! I shared this video with my kids before we filled our boxes. They each wanted to include a note and picture like your family does 🙂 I’m a substitute teacher and the 6th grade class I was with today are collecting items for class boxes so I shared this video with them too. (Not sure all the Christianity was appropriate but it is the group of people that deliver these boxes. . .) I think it really inspired the class to go home tonight and find items for their boxes! I hope so. Thanks for posting.

Courtney Walsh - Our new church does this too and I can’t wait to do it. We’ve done it before, but we missed last year. I think it’s going to be so so awesome. 🙂

Leigha - What a great project…and one we will adopt this year as well. Thank you for the generous inspiration!
Leigha

Kristin F. - This is one of our favorite things to do each holiday season. We packed our boxes last night! I posted about OCC today and included a link to your post :).
Thanks for being fabulous – you are a daily must-read!

Keri ~ forever folding laundry - I *love* this.
We’re doing it.
God in action = amazing!

jaz - We did something very similar a few christmas’ in a row down under – my mom and I LOVED doing this. It is so wonderful , so lovely to give, so satisfying. Such a good tradition to rekindle now that I’m settled here in america.
You are awesome meg. So loving, so thoughtful, so giving, and you are passing on a legacy of love to your children. They will grow up wonderful beings because of you.
The world is certainly a better place because you are in it.
xox

Cari - We turned in our shoeboxes last night! And I’m so excited to track them this year!! GREAT idea to gather things throughout the year. I’m totally going to do that (instead of scrambling at the last minute & frustrated the budget didn’t allow for more).

Jodi - We participate in this too. Two years ago, I was able to go help (along w/ others from my Church) at the Atlanta distribution center. We are going again this year and I’m SO excited!!

The Fairy's Apprentice - Thank you for this post. Great suggestion, I will do it with my kids this year. Is not too late.

Jessica - We packed our box tonight! So glad they have EZ Give Tracking now.

donna - the best part of christmas is giving to those in need. last year, i organized an adopt a needy family with our high school hockey team. we all took part in this wonderful program through focus hope in Detroit. both our jv and varsity (i had a son on each team) adopted four (large) needy families in detroit. we bought each member of the family clothing, toys, or whatever they needed. We also supplied food for their christmas dinner. of course, the best part was delivering the packages and seeing the joy on the families faces when we loaded their homes with presents and food – the excitment on the childrens faces and the hugs i got was all i needed for christmas. i took 12 hockey playing boys in my group – it was the most rewarding experience for all involved. although, my boys no longer play hockey, we have decided with a group of friends to once again adopt some needy families, i am so excited to take part in the program this year!!! if you are interested in this program in your city, contact focus hope or your church.

linda lou - my church has done this is the past and i hope we do it again this yr…i will check on! meg your a great example of God’s love (: blessings,

amber - My 3 year old daughter & 11 month son just shopped for OCC this past Friday:). My daughter had a lot of fun…but it was a little hairy. Especially when it came to buying the toys for someone other than HER. It’s a hard lesson, but I’m so glad she gets to learn it by giving to others. We’re donating online too! Sooo awesome…

crystal beutler - We did this with our youth group last year. It was one of the best gift giving service projects we’ve ever done. I plan to do it this year as part of of our 24 days of Christmas project at home. Wish me luck. 🙂

steph - i also cry EVERY SINGLE time i watch one of those videos. they always play them at church during a service a few weeks before collection time and i swear, there isn’t a dry eye in the sanctuary. so amazing… what precious little children. THEY bless US! seriously! we just bought a whole wackload of stuff yesterday and dropped the boxes off at our church this morning. such a great thing to do with kids. so fun and so important, especially in our crazed materialistic world. thanks for blogging about this… hopefully others can now be encouraged to take part! 🙂

jackie chappell - yikes .. thank you for reminding me ..
my shoe box was sitting here waiting to be filled for tommarrow morning at church .. they are collecting them down front on our alter and then praying over all of them .. mine will be there with them brimming full .. thanks again !!!
jackie from florida ..
=)

shiela - that’s very impacting!

Sharla - I just looked at the KCParent magazine and ripped out the information for this – wow, we must start doing it this year. Thanks for the extra motivation – I can’t wait to share with my boys.

Nicole Q. - We are thinking alike girl . . . we did ours today with the kids. We’ve never watched the video though – just added it to my list for this week!! We’ve never been apart of a church that did this just did it on our own. I’d love to see more people do it. I also love your “shop all year” for stuff. I also noticed you took stuff out of the packages – like panties and stuff. What a clever idea- you can fit so much more in that way I’m sure – I’m assuming it’s ok right? You have so many readers that I’m sure you just impacted this ministry so much. Love how God works!! Have a good weekend.

Rach - What a great idea. Found a drop off location not too far from us. Think we’re gonna have to participate in this one. Thanks for the info.

Kate B. - We show those videos every year – our church is a collection site. I cry EVERY SINGLE TIME. My kids love this!

Sugar Mama - After typing that last comment I went to the website and realized I can TOTALLY make this happen by the 22nd. I told my kids we were doing it… we are doing it.
Thanks for the motivation!

Sugar Mama - THIS week?! Dang! I had every intention of doing this with my kids. And it’s such a great idea to buy stuff throughout the year.
I love that you used the plastic container vs an actual box. Is that what more people are doing now? Makes sense. My kids and I adopt a local family every year and it DOES get crazy… they want to buy everything on the list. (I really wish we could do that).

Jessie Hurst - Our Mops group does this every year and I love it! We had a playgroup on Friday and the kids filled boxes while we were there. They took so much pride in filling in the boxes and it was so sweet to see kids ranging in age 1 to 6 working hard to fill their boxes.

laurenjean - Our MOPS group got together and did this !! Its one of my favorite Christmas traditions 🙂

Nikki - We do a similar thing here in Australia. I don’t think we can track our boxes though.

*LuLu* - So Awesome! I Love Doing Operation Christmas So Much!

Jenn N - We are just packing up our boxes this weekend. The kids are so in to it and feel great about helping others, and what a fun way to do it! This video chokes me up every time I watch it.

sara @ it's good to be queen - we do this every year too…for the ages/gender my kids are. this year i took them shopping with me. i usually don’t do that, but i had procrastinated so i had to. i like your idea of saving up stuff throughout the year. *hopefully* i will remember to do that next year. 🙂

Georgia - Such a lovely idea, i said it last year and ill say it again, i still cant find anuything like this in the UK argh, not least near where i live…. love the photos, there very colourful 🙂 x

Leslie P. - So awesome!! I blogged about Samaritans Purse today too! Love that you guys are doing the boxes. We went for the gift catalog idea this year. My kids loved looking through it to see the needs around the world.

Gina - You can donate online? How cool! We’ve done this before, but now we sponsor a little gal in Africa so we send here a big package in September and pray it gets there in time for Christmas! My kids love to choose out her presents.

Lesley - Hi Meg, followed your blog for years, but never commented before, love you and your family. what a great idea, never knew about this and just found out it operates in Australia too but I’ve missed the deadline, definitely will bookmark it for next year. I was thinking though how do you explain to your kids why santa doesn’t bring all children a gift? I’m not sure of your traditions but Santa still exists in our house (I have 7 year old twins) and I always find the santa story hard to explain when so many children around the world don’t get a gift at christmas time? Love to hear your view. Lesley

Heather - I did this with my four nieces and nephew this week. I do it by myself, but it is SO much more fun with kids. I gave them each an empty rubbermaid box the size of a shoe box and we went to the store with them and they filled them there. They knew our budget and had to do some mental math. I told them about it last week so that they could think about what they were going to get all week. When we were done we watched the video so they could “see” what they were doing and how it affected the kids the boxes were going to. An awesome project. Really.

Lesley - I stumbled onto your blog a while ago, and what an inspiration you are! I am always looking for new ways to teach my boys about living outside themselves and having compassion. I enjoy your projects and photos and am also encouraged to know that I am not the only one who weeps at the simple things in life 🙂 Blessings to you.

Nichole - I didn’t realize that they did this near here, but apparently they do! I’ve only done Angel Tree before, but for where I’m at poverty is pretty bad, so any charity helps.

Stephanie - My sons third grade class decided to make boxes this year instead of exchanging gifts at their Christmas party. They were able to gather enough donations for three boxes of supplies and shipping. It’s a wonderful program and a great way to encourage kids to think about other during the holiday season.

danielle - thanks so much for sharing. i look forward to giving!

Heather - My girls and I went yesterday afternoon to shop for the items. This evening we will watch the video, wrap our box, and pack it. The girls are very excited!

Tessa - We are filling our shoe boxes today. Love the idea of showing the kids the video before they fill the boxes … we see it during our church service … but they don’t. It will make it so much more meaningful to them!

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - Such a great thing to do…we love it too. The hands and feet of Jesus!

Ashley - Hey! I just found your blog last night and have been reading as far back as I could since early this morning!! I am a 21 year old majoring in Accounting, striving to become a CPA, but desperately wanting to be a housewife and Mom just like you. I have known since I was little that that was my purpose in life, but have had to find other things to strive for until the time comes….. I have always said that I would have 5 children, but ultimately know that its up to God as to the definite details 🙂 Thanks for being an inspiration to me! Your post about Liza turning 100 really hit me when you were talking to the lady who was the oldest of 5 children, and you started crying because you said she just understood!! I cried when I read that because so many people find out what I really want to do with my life and think I am crazy for wanting to raise a large family and stay at home! Sorry for rambling, just wanted to say thanks for being so real! -Ashley

Denise - Oh Gosh! Good thing I read this today (after work and before cleaning) our boxes need to be at church with us in the morning and I totally forgot about them! Thanks Meg…and your ideas of things to send are great!

april - This is a great thing…

Becca - I saw your post about Operation Christmas child last year and you’ve inspired our family to start doing it this year 🙂 Thank you!

Lisa - Thanks for posting this. I love this ministry. Our family does this every year also. I didn’t know you could donate online and find out where the boxes go. SO COOL.

elizabeth highsmith - i’m so excited for the online giving and getting to see where they go!! i love this project too!

Amanda-ThriceBlessed - We love participating in OCC too! I am the P.O.C. this year at our church and its great seeing so many boxes come in. I *almost* took my kids with me to shop then thought better of it, so they will just get to fill the boxes. It is a great ministry!

Four Flights - Our church participates in the same exact program. It is wonderful and you’re right, heartbreaking.

Jen - We just filled our boxes.

teresa - We had the coolest thing happen one year…we sent a box off and later got a response from an Indian family who served in a ministry to street kids and orphans. Their son rec’d our box, and his name was “Benson,” which is my hubby’s mom’s maiden name. It was just a fun, heart-warming God-incidence.

Danielle H. - We are going to an Operation Christmas Child party today. I love those flashlights you got with the batteries included in the package. Wish I knew where to get those…today!!! Thanks for the inspiration again!

Lindsay - Some co-workers and I just bought our supplies for the boxes. I absolutely love OCC and I too cry at all the videos. I love that your kids are involved. I can’t wait to do this with my kids someday when I have some!

kat - I am totally crying after watching that video. This is such a important mission. I think my girls would love to be involved!

Kim - Thanks for posting Meg. I got a brochure from my daughter’s preschool, they are participating in it. It’s actually the first time I’ve ever heard of it. I’m very excited for my kids to be a part of this. I couldn’t figure out if I should take them shopping with me. Your post helped me see that letting the kids put the box together (along with the video) will work out great. Thanks again!

Mary - What a wonderful gift to give your children – to participate in such a wonderful Christmas tradition.

Trish @TheOldPostRoad - We do that each year! I posted about working at the Operation Christmas Child processing center last year, here: http://theoldpostroadblog.blogspot.com/2009/12/operation-christmas-child-processing.html
I think we’ll try the online thing, too.
-Trish

Katie - Thanks for the pics of what you guys are giving. Very helpful as we head out today to get our supplies. We can bring our boxes to our church tomorrow and then we are going to pray over them! Our kids are at such tender ages 6 and 4 and they were affected by the video! Praise God…thanks so much!

aimee - my kids’ preschool does this! They are only three, so it was the first time I’d gotten to talk with them about other children in the world who don’t have as much as they do. We had a great time filling (and decorating!) our box. My twins’ teacher told us that if we wanted to add our address in the box (we put ours on the back of a photo) that the child might write us back!
SUCH a beautiful idea! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Crystal @ Ordinary Days - Thanks for sharing this today. The video got me too. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to find a collection location so I used your link and discovered that my Mother-in-law’s church is a dropoff location! I will share the video with my girls and take them shopping. I want them to have a good eye opener and see how it feels and what it means to help others. Thank you and I thank God you showed it to us. 🙂

Casey - Love, Operation Christmas Child! Our church has done this for as long as I can remember and of couple years ago when I was interning at The Tennessee Babptist Children’s Home I was able to be a part of the collection process. Such a neat thing to see!

Meredith - Oh, and by the way… when we watched the video, I cried too!! Can’t help it! Makes my heart happy and sad all at once! God is GREAT!!!!!

Meredith - What a great idea to work on getting items all through the year as they go on sale! I will remember that for next year! This is the first year that my daughters, 8 and 3, are participating and we are so excited to see where our box goes! Thanks for sharing!

Holly - What a wonderful idea! I’m going to check it out. Thanks!

angela - I had no idea you could track your box, My three year old granddaughter wanted to know WHO got the things in the box. This is great! Thank you for sharing. I will go donate now!!

Erin Leigh - Such a good idea to buy stuff at back to school time & throughout the year. It always sneaks up on me, thanks for the reminder. erin

Chaos-Jamie - I actually got to see my box in one of the mags one year. Made it SO real for us!

truth.

Lisa - So wonderfully powerful. You are a great mother.
Take care,
Lisa

Kim - Thanks for sharing. I’m pregnant with our third baby. We thought we were done at two, but God clearly has
other plans for us!

Karen Gerstenberger - Beautiful. Thank you for sharing this.

Brittany - I have this exact same quote on my blog right now! I put it up a couple days ago after I saw it on a Starbucks cup. I think it speaks so much truth. Beautiful.

Ashley - LOVE!

Tami - I actually photocopied that same quote years ago and have it filed away will all the documents of my children’s adoptions. I hope that this is how they always see themselves. Thanks for sharing it!

Kimberlee J. - Email this to TJ. She will love this as much as I do.

Meredith - word.

se7en - Thank-you. We probably all need to here this everyday for one reason or another… In a world full of so much pain we sometimes just forget how special we are.

Vicki - Today I got news that the baby I am busy making in my lovingly large belly may not be what we were expecting. Our baby may have Down Syndrome…more testing is needed to get an exact answer. Today I needed to hear those words. That no matter what, we are who we are supposed to be because we are not our own but His…that includes my unborn baby. Whatever this baby is, it is for a purpose. Thanks, I need to hear that today.

tara pollard pakosta - LOVE IT!

Tracy - I love it – Pastor Rick was our home church pastor for so many years in our early marriage and then we moved an hour away. We still visit Saddleback when we’re visiting my parents for the weekend – and he refers to this SO often in his sermons.
So filled with hope, promise and PASSION for people. Amen!!
xoxo

Suzanne - This took my breath away! I will refer to this throughout the day I am sure. Thanks!

Valerie - LOVE!

Amy Lynne - Amen! I would never trade my boys even though we didn’t plan on them coming when they did!

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - Beautiful. Very, very beautiful.

Lori - Amen. So true! Thanks for the perspective…

Suzette - WOW! Amen! I am adopted and I have never felt like an accident but this just reinforces my feeling of being special!

Libby - What a wonderful reminder as we start out the week. Thank you.

Meredith Salmon - That is a beautiful quote and with all the teens and young adult (mostly) thinking they don’t belong, they have just not realized their purpose and potential. I am sad for all of those that do not and will not have a chance to know their destiny or God. Thank you for this today. I really needed it.

Jen - Awesome!

elma riedstra - Amen!! Wonderful post!!!

Heather - such a perfect reminder. focusing our ourselves never brings about the answers and love we’re after.

Cari - Amen.
I got pregnant at 18 — with twins. Even the good, Christian girl can end up pregnant before marriage. I always struggled with the “why me” (even 10 years later), but this is so true. It’s not about me and my girls are not an accident. They were created by him and for him. Thank you for sharing this today. Just wanted I needed.

jeana - Love this, so much. Great truth this morning!

Niki - Word.

Tammy - Totally needed this today. Thank you.

Casey - Love this. Thank you. 🙂

Tanya - Love this! Thanks.

Laura Phelps - THIS was the talk at mass yesterday.
If we search for meaning within ourselves, we will always feel empty.
Our meaning is in God.
And we need to PRAY.
To say close to Him.
a perfect Monday morning post…
xo

ashley - So beautiful, and so true. Thank you!

Flower Patch Farmgirl - Truth and a pretty flower on a Monday morning. Warmed me right up!

Kate - Thank you. This was such a blessing to me today.

Sugar Mama - I was NOT expecting this on your blog this morning. I wish I could have prepared myself emotionally for this because now I’m sitting here with tears running down my face and my daycare kids staring at me like I’ve finally lost it.
What an amazing quote. This hits me at such a personal level…. I have no words to explain it.
Thank you for sharing!

Deanna - Thank you so much for posting this! I saw this somewhere awhile back and could not remember where! I looked everywhere for it and now you posted it! It is sooo true! Thanks and have a great day!

visart-dali.com - Thank you! This is SO true and beautiful!

Gekakel - Thnak you, so beautiful!

Holly - Amen

Julie - So true. This is really beautiful, Meg.

Tracy - Wow – such true words and I love the part about not being an accident – that is something I think kids should hear instead of being told they were an accident. That would go a lot further, I think. Thanks for sharing and have a great day! :o) xoxoxo

sarah - Love it. And probably just what I needed to hear/read/see as I drag myself toward my next birthday feeling down in the dumps…

jeanne - I LOVE this. So beautiful and SOOOO true!!! Love and miss you my sweet friend!!!

Beth - Love it too!!! Thank you for sharing….hadn’t heard the acoustic! Enjoy your day!

Casey - Love, love, love this song! Always crank up the volume when it comes on. I just adore Tenth Ave. North.

Sugar Mama - Oh, I love this song. When it comes on KLove I crank up the volume, but I’ve never heard this acoustic version. I’ll have to listen to it again when I don’t have 2 screaming babies and 5 active toddlers running through the house.

Alicia Gallagher - Absolutely love this song! I am involved in Elijah House and someone introduced this song to our class ~ it’s meaning and depth is…divine. Tenth Avenue North has many great songs ~ but this one is perfect! I’ve come to love when the light meets the dark ~ there’s such beauty there!

julia - Okay, I found it. Healing Begins by Tenth Avenue North. I found it on iTunes but they don’t have the acoustic version.

Vicki Esh - Who is this? I want this on my ipod!

purejoy - loved this as well. a new song for my heart.
struggling with walls this very day. i could tear them down, but that would mean putting the anvil of pride down… haven’t been able to pry my white-knuckled grip from it yet.
but i’m working on it.
thanks for sharing the beautiful song.

julia - Meg – can this be downloaded?

edie - psalm 56:8 you have kept count of my tossings and put my tears in a bottle.

Trish - I wish I could convey to you just how timely this is for me. I so needed this!
I am in the midst of some major heart struggles and I am seeing my own ugly heart issues being manifested in my ten year old. It hurts.
Thank you!

vitamins

IMG_3325

when our group went to africa in march, each of us was given something to collect and bring to donate.
my suitcases were full of birthday cake mixes and the pillowcase dresses.
all together we had 11 big suitcases full of donations: books, first aid, sports equipment, gardening tools
one suitcase was FULL of vitamins.
we filled a room in the Ale' Ale' House.
it was awesome.

after the Good News Club on saturdays in Kroo Bay the children are given an egg.
we were told that for many of them it would be the only protein they would have all week.
IMG_4001

we were told that since our visit they have been able to give each child a vitamin with their egg.

IMG_4082
it's not anything we would get excited about here in the US…right?  an egg and a vitamin?
but for that to be all they get each week?
it breaks my heart.

IMG_4057

we received an email that they have run out of vitamins and wondered if we would be able to collect more.

IMG_3943

IMG_3993

we said YES!
it's an honor to help.
we are sending all of our vitamins to a central location…jody's house in colorado
and the next person going to freetown will take our vitamins with them.

IMG_6868
i took my kids and let them pick them out.

can YOU help?

1. buy children's vitamins.

2. email me for the address for where to send them.   ( cdduerksen@yahoo.com )

3. send them.  (if you are local you can give them to me anytime)

4. smile.

5. pray for all the children who will receive them.

COME ON LADIES.
we can do this soooooo easily.

jody and cassie and pam and kari each blogged this today too…said it so beautifully.

i loved what jody added at the end of her post….and i am going to paste it here:
————————————————————————————————————————–

I’m quoting in full here Jaime, a missionary in Costa Rica.
She describes this incident where she delivers food to some desperate kids:

“I’m gonna go fight poverty for two and a half hours.

2.5 hours on a Tuesday morning to solve the biggest problem in the world. What a joke.

We will show up with a bag full of bread and an armload of bananas, and the children will clamber around us like ducks at a pond. A bunch of little ducklings, falling all over each other for a bit of bread and a soft pat on the head.
And for 2 and a half hours we will laugh and play and eat, and we will talk about Jesus. And when we leave, they will be just as poor as when we arrived. Poverty taunts us as we drive away.
It’s overwhelming.
The problem is so big, and we are so small. It feels ridiculous… showing up to war wielding a loaf of bread.
Of course that’s how David showed up. Just a shepherd boy with some bread for his brothers, a kid who was quick with a sling shot. He chose for battle against a giant, not a sword, or the kings armor, but five smooth stones. And he won.
He said to the giant:”You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” ~1 Samuel 17
I kind of love that.
I’m going to feed the ducks, now.
And then, with all my might, I will hurl a tiny pebble at their giant enemy. And I hope it hurts like hell.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————–

And I love that.
So pick up your pebbles, people. Here we go…Thanks for joining us.

Lori - Sweet Meg- I would like to do this with my American Girl class. We are going to be doing a service project while studying Molly. Could you please tell me where to send the vitamins? Thanks so much! Lori toosillysisters@cox.net

Brenda - I would love to donate and I will send you an email soon.

Beth Schobert - Meg, we are doing this for our family Christmas instead of gifts. Will that be too late? Can we send them later? Please let us know if there are other things we could collect and send.

Kristin S - What a great way to tangibly help!
Just posted on Facebook too…

Laura - you rock

Meg B. - hmmm, I’m local and my school gives kids vitamins each day for free. Maybe we could get a bulk rate. I’ll check into it.
Meg

Transparent Mama - I love how the blogging world can come together to give vitamins to needy children in Africa. Very cool.

Melanie Neumann - I emailed you for an address! This is awesome.

PinkPeanutButter - I emailed you for an address.

jennibell - GREAT idea!!! Would love to know how many suitcases this post generates!!! I blogged about it today (http://jennisseasons.blogspot.com/2010/09/company-girl-coffee-917.html) and am sending you an e-mail so I can send vitamins to you this weekend. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to give.

Sheryl - Amen Sisters! I’ve got my pebbles ready! Although mine are aiming at the poverty giant in the Philippines. It’s everywhere ladies, pick a place a hurl those pebbles!!

Chantel - I will definitely be doing this! I even reposted it on my FB and Tumblr. You will receive an e-mail from me shortly for the address!

Lynda - Hi Megg,
Yesterday I read your post and commented on it…..as I live in the Netherlands I can’t help you as I want to……I think…but I thought about it last night, and I want to ask you….CAN we help from here? ANy idea?

Tina - Thanks for posting this! We’ll be sending lots of vitamins.

-Rebecca H.

Suzanne - These children capture my heart with each picture. Simply beautiful!

Margo - Thanks for allowing us all to join in on this! I will be buying vitamins and getting them to you!

Dana D@BoysMyJoys - Megan-
Just wondering if there is anything else they need? When shopping for vitamins today at Target, they had all of their school supplies 75% off. In looking at some of the other pictures, I saw piles of glue and such. I’d be happy to pick up those suppies, too, especially while you can get so much for great prices- and mail them with the vitamins. Are things like glue and children’s scissors needed?

Rachel - Please send the address – I’ll have them shipped straight over from Amazon.
Thanks so much! God Bless

laura - I’m visiting Jessica McClenahan until Sunday and then will head back to Colorado. Not sure if you would prefer to wait awhile and just send a bunch at one time to Jody but if you would like me to take what you have already collected I’d be happy to. I’m just a few minutes from her. Anyway, thought I would throw that out there just in case. Call Jess if you would like me to. Otherwise, no worries and happy vitamin collecting! 🙂

karen - I am sending mine to Jody directly also thru Amazon
free shipping over $25

Lisa - I sent my vitamin order directly to Jody via Amazon.com. I’m glad I could help a little! 🙂

jennifer - Absolutely!!! Please send me the address where to send them.

Christy - Thanks for posting this! Ordering some vitamins via Amazon & sending directly to the address. Easy peasy! Seriously, this is less than a meal out with my family & goes for a lot of good.

Megan - Sent money to Jody thru Paypal. Thanks for the opportunity to give!

Lisa utu - Love this! And love the quote at the end. Powerful!

Melissa Lynch - I sent the e-mail from my office for the address. I am computer ignorant. Can I share your post on my facebook so I can mail a HuGe box of vitamins?

Karen Gerstenberger - This is awesome and beautiful. The Bible quote brought tears to my eyes, because that is how I feel about cancer research. I will do what I can to move this forward, so that one day, no more children and families will suffer what Katie (and we) suffered. NO MORE.
If you have a moment, PLEASE go to my blog and watch the video of the new cancer researcher in Seattle, Dr. Mike Jensen. He is a bit like David, with the tiny T-Cells and the big mission. I believe that he is going to move this forward, and the video will inspire you with HOPE.

SeaminglySarah - Okay, maybe it’s the pregnancy hormones talking, but the quote from Jamie made me cry.
Plus I love the mention of a “Good News Club.” When my mother in law was hit with cancer a 2nd time she came up with the “Good News Report.” She only focused on good news, god’s news. The positive attitude and optimism she carries is inspiring. I always thought her “Good News Report” was cute, but now I can tell her it’s catching around the world! =)

Esther - Wao….thanks Meg for this, will email in a sec for address. Tears running down, I’m a Cuban refugee and I totally been there so come on girls let’s do this for these children. Hugs~

Christi Hoffman - LOVE,LOVE,LOVE this! I shared this on my FB! Thanks..

Dana Banana - I will buy several bottles this week and bring them to your house on Sunday. This will be a great service project for our family. Thanks for giving us the opportunity.

Lisa - Email sent – let us know when the person is leaving so we get them there on time! 🙂

amber - Yes! Another great way to teach my little girl about how the world around her is so imperfect. And how blessed we are to be able to serve. Thanks. I’m going to stick this on my blog too.

misty - i just cried my eyes out reading this. I am sending this link to our pastor & hope our church can help. also i will be sending vitamins. i’m emailing you for the address now- thank you for this post

Shauna - thank you for blogging this. i needed this this morning. i am in. i will blog this later and email you for the address. also, while i was reading your post, i was listening to pandora’s elizabeth mitchell station and a man was singing “i can change the world with my own two hands”. not sure who it was singing, but I am gonna just take that double whammy encouragment as God’s voice to me 🙂 off to get my vitamins and obey Him…thanks for being you, Meg.

AshleyAnn - Will be adding this to my post tomorrow…it fits in so perfectly. You make me happy Megan.

Tara - crying and overwhelmed.
gonna email you and get the address…

Emily - Thanks for reaching out to us! Can’t wait to help out.

~Molly P

Tracy - Yes, I’ll be happy to help out and help those babies over in Africa. That’s such a sad story but one I’m so glad you were able to experience and share with the rest of us here. Thanks for the opportunity to help out in some small way. I will send you an email later today to request the address of where to send the vitamins to. P.S. I have also added this link on my blog to help spread the word! Big hugs, Meg! :o)

Julie - My mother hosted a Good News Club in our home. It was during one of those club meetings, I was saved. Very near and dear to my heart. The pebbles do seem so tiny, but hurling anyway. Thanks for the opportunity to help.

Lisa Cash - Already sent the email – I’m in! Thanks for giving us all the opportunity to help out!

Lynda - I can only help with 4 and 5 :(….I’m sorry! I would love to send some vitamins! Beautiful pictures of even more beautiful children, thanks for reminding me…….

Lisa - great idea meg, am sending an email now.

pam - Wow…never bought vitamins before…so colorful, so fun….so humbled. I’m in…email already on it’s way.

bobbie - I’ll so be doing. look for my email soon.

i love this song.

 He is
jealous for me,

Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.

When all of a sudden,
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,

And I realize just how beautiful You are,

And how great Your affections are for me.

And oh, how He loves us oh

Oh how He loves us,

How He loves us all

And we are His portion and He is
our prize,

Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes,

If His grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.

And heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss,

And my heart turns violently inside of my chest,

I don’t have time to maintain these regrets,

When I think about, the way…

That He loves us,

Oh how He loves us,

 Yeah, He loves us,

his hair is different….
but i just love to listen to this song.

i hope you know how much God loves YOU.

Valerie - Love this song and love that you posted it!

Leslee - Oh this post just made me the happiest girl!! I got to see the David Crowder band at Cornerstone music festival this year in Illinois. Some of my best girlfriends and I make a road trip every year from California (home) to Illinois (Cornerstone Christian Music Festival) and it is my absolute favorite week of the entire year!! I love The Glorious Unseen’s version of this song. 🙂

april walker - hey meg! i love your blog & saw this post & thought i’d drop in & post this clip from the writer of this song, john mark mcmillan. he’s from my hometown, charlotte, nc & i recently had the privilege of seeing him perform this live. he’s an amazing musician and actually just recently released a new album “the medicine” that you should totally check out. “skeleton bones” is one of my favs.
here’s the video of the story behind “how he loves” i have to fight back tears every time i watch it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NXWE6AC8ao
happy tuesday!

Cortney - The first time I heard this was at a Barlow Girls concert. They had us all sing it at the end, Amazing!!

Tami - This is my favorite song and I cry everytime we sing it at church. What a great worship song.

miss r - Love this one! Another favorite is Fail Us Not by 1000 Generations. I never listen to either of those songs with a dry eye.

Sally - Meg – wow what can I say – they sang this in Church yesterday and then my husband and I looked it up – what an amazing song – thanks for giving it the great credit it is due.

Jenni Carlisle - I love DCB! They are actually from my town and it is a surreal to see them at Target or the grocery store…especially with the hair!

heidi @ wonder woman wannabe - I’m SO tracking w/you, girl – I totally have a video of this song to go along with a blog post I’m working on for this coming week as well!

amanda - This song doesn’t get old … love the words.

anna - isn’t it just the BEST!!!??? He is JEALOUS for me! and you!! holy wow!!

kristine - i quick peaked at your blog this am before church and guess what?! it was one of our worship songs! i think it means i was really meant to hear it! i love this part: If His grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.
hope you had a great day!

Sheryl - Love this song too! David Crowder is one of the best when it comes to descriptions. He puts things into tremendous metaphors and eureka type phrases. Truly gifted by God.

Janie Fox - I love this song but we sing the wet kiss part like Tasha said and I don’t like that either. Love this version more!!

Heather - Is this picture of Annie? Found it on this blog: http://thelisaportercollection.blogspot.com/
while blog-hopping this evening & thought it looked like her.
Blessings,
Heather:)

Sara @ It's Good to be Queen - yes, one of my faves.

jen - LOVE this song. especially when it pops up on my itunes while im out on a run. that first line gets to me. ‘lump in my throat’ gets to me. love DCB 🙂

Lori - Love it too 🙂

Mrs.B - THANK YOU!~needed it!

Michelle - love love this song. . thanks for posting. . . it’s in my head now which is GREAT!

Candy - love it too! our pastor’s 9 yr old granddaughter sang this at church this morning to celebrate his 50th year in ministry! 🙂

Sarah S. - I love this song! My husband and I are on the worship team at my church (him: guitar/vocals, me: bass/bgv) and we played it this morning. I was actually just singing it in my head when I saw your post! 🙂 But I think my favorite part about it is hearing the congregation sing the chorus over and over. It’s so true!!

Leah - I agree with Sarah…Jesus Culture does a great version of this song. They rock out a tad more and I love it!

Lori - Great song! My favourite at the moment is “By Your Side” by Tenth Avenue North. It’s spoken from God’s point of view and just makes our relationship with Him seem even more real.

sarah - kim walker from jesusculture in california also has a wonderfully passionate version of this song too…you should youtube it and check it out. i used to watch it alone in my room and get goosebumps and cry every time. in a good way. :]

Bobbie - I love that song. Love David chrowder. Have you heard of Kim Walker and Jesus Culture. I love love love her “oh happy day” it’s the song we played right after our baby was born.

tasha roe - we sing this at church and i have a love/hate relationship for it. see….our words are a little different – instead of “unforeseen kiss” ours sings “sloppy wet kiss”
drives. me. crazy.
i LOVE the song except for that part.
now i just might have to see if they will sing it differently.
i like your version a ton better!!!

Jennifer - If you love this song you MUST listen to the original by John Mark McMillan…also you should google the story that inspired the song.

Megan - I recently went to a wedding and the bride walked down the aisle to this song. Before she entered, the pastor talked about how we are the bride of Christ and one day will go to Him. They wanted their wedding to represent that. He asked that we not stand until the bride passed our row. It was amazing to hear this song, see them represent Christ and to see the crowd stand as she passed. A beautiful picture of Heaven.

candace haymon - oops, forgot to paste the clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xa0eyCijaxY&feature=related

candace haymon - Here’s a youtube clip of a sweet little boy singing along with John Mark McMillan’s (the writer of the song) recording. I think you’ll enjoy it…always makes me smile and really “get” it!

Amanda - LOVE this song! heard them play it live at the passion conference in london earlier this year 🙂

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - One of my very favorites!!!!

carols - Why don’t I know him? I listen to xm Christian radio and bet I know more of his songs…and loved this one. Got a giggle out of the drummer rocking away in the background, big guy in his shirt, tie, jacket and belt and was thinking bet he wishes he was in a tshirt and jeans!! Beautiful song for a Sunday morning. Another reason you’re my favorite blog.
carols in Chicago suburb on a beautiful morning

Regina - we’re crazy about this song in our house as well! our family is in some struggles and this song speaks wonderfully of God’s faithfulness & promises. i love how God blesses man w/ talent & speaks through individuals to us . . . He’s definitelly used this song ~ my husband has been encouraged by this song lately.

Tanya - Love that song!

Lori - Thanks for sharing Meg. I love this song too. And David Crowder too! (Yes, the hair is different!)

my favorite part…
“if Grace is an ocean…..then we’re ALL sinking!”

Dori Smith - This is one of my favorite songs we are singing at church now. Jesus Couture has a great version also!

Lisa utu - This song spoke to my soul at a time i needed a reminder that god truly loves me. It still amazes me that he loves me so much. Thanks for sharing this song!

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - Oh, this song SPEAKS to me. We sing it every Sunday. I love where it says ‘and my heart turns violently inside my chest’.

God knows.

just when i reach the end of my rope….my patience is gone….i am acting a little crazy…a lot angry…
God uses people in my life to encourage and uplift me.

i posted that funny video and 30 minutes later the mail came.

there were three gifts in my mail box.
out of the blue.
from kind women….giving to give.
and i don't know any of them in real life.

IMG_4302 IMG_4304

                           IMG_4307

thank you ladies for lifting me up when i was feeling very down.
i love each one so much!
i felt so special.

did that change my mood though?  you would think so but unfortunately….no.

i spent my evening griping at everyone….complaining….avoiding my family…
and them avoiding me for fear of my reaction.
craig even tried to cheer me up with a milkshake…it worked for a few minutes.

then i took a hot bath and did some reading.
and look what God gave me to read:

"We all want to be good examples for our kids – but how often do we stop and consider what
it really entails?

In addition to changing diapers and running carpools, and helping with
science problems, godly women are supposed to be wise, resourceful, hospitable,
encouraging, diligent, creative , generous, faithful, watchful, vigorous, strong and cheerful –
and that's just for starters!  If you think I am making this up, take a look at Proverbs 31.
Reading this passage used to discourage me.  I'd start by checking off the verses I had
"covered" – things like sewing curtains and dust ruffles, or keeping my lamp burning late in
the night as I made endless "To Do lists.  But no matter how hard I tried,  I  never got much
farther than that.  I was always, as my friend Kenzie likes to put it, "the Proverbs 32 woman".
But that's where Jesus comes in.  By myself I will never measure up.  No matter how hard I
try to do everything "right," there will always be times when I let my children down.  Unlike
the Proverbs 31 mother, I will probably never know what it feels like to have my kids get out
of bed in the morning and call me "blessed!"  But I have learned that the less I rely on my
own abilities and the more I rely on Christ – and the more I let my children see me
depending on him for wisdom, guidance, and strength – the more I will be able to set an
example that's worth following.  Instead of saying "Look at me," I'll be able to say

"Look at Jesus."

(pg. 190 of Praying the Scriptures for your Children)

good stuff.
God is so good.
He is the only true happiness and hope and way out from those dark places.

i think i will be fine for tuesday.
———————————————————————————————————————————–

side note: it's 12:44 AM….my entire house has been asleep for an hour.
i am typing in the dark in my bed.
annie just appeared at my bedside….with her sleepy bed head and only her my little pony undies on…
hugged my arm tight and then walked back out of the room.
i love being a mama.

———————————————————————————————————————————–

side side note:  do i sound like a psycho?
one post saying i want to do so many things the last three days of summer….
the next post saying i am going crazy like a hormonal wolf man with bleeped out swear words….
then talking about how much i love and need jesus and love my kids????
i think i do sound a little bit off.
it's the adjustments….they are coming this week whether i am ready or not.
my baby will be gone….my mornings start so early….and my washing machine is still broken…etc. etc. etc.
i hope to be back to my normal self soon.

Melissa - Thanks for your post. I have been struggling with these same feelings. I have not been the wife or mom God has called me to be lately. My oldest started kindergarten and I am adjusting to a new stage of life. I love the Proverbs 32 women- that’s so me! Hang in there- I hope your week has gotten better.

deb meyers - your struggle encourages me in mine. I wish I was brave enough to repost the crazy wolfman on my FB, but I’m not. that’ why God brings me your blog!
deb meyers

Kelly - Megan, thanks for being real. Being a mom is hard and I’m only four months in but thank you also for sharing the sweet things like annie coming in that make it so great. God has not given us more than we can bear! Kelly

Lori - Meg,
Thank you for being so open, honest and REAL! Your post reminded me that I am not alone in my own struggles as a mother and a wife. You have encouraged me tonight. Thank you.

Suzanne - thanks for the honesty Meg. You are not alone (see above!) or any different from most moms. Oh how I wish we would all be so honest in real life. Remember that this life is not all there is too, Meg. I take comfort in that a LOT. My children are all grown, but my unsaved husband is an alcoholic, so I struggle with loving him one minute and hating him the next AND I am supposed to be a Christian who overcomes it all. I feel like I am going crazy at times until I get my eyes off myself and onto Jesus.
Sending love your way…be encouraged that you are not alone in this struggle.

Lori - Oh we ALL have those days…How lucky and loved are you to receive 3 random gifts on the same day? 🙂 Will you email or post where the 2 came from? I’m guessing these ladies have Etsy shops…?

Jonelle - You are not psycho!!! I think every mother has felt these feelings, and it’s a shame we don’t share this more often with each other. Instead, we all go along feeling like we are alone and slowly losing our minds. Thank you for your vulnerability and honesty in talking about your feelings and struggles. Our pastor has been talking a lot about this lately – about exposing ourselves and not living with a facade that everything’s “fine.” As Christians, we struggle and make mistakes, but the great thing is we have a God who continues to love us and grant us His mercy. This is our testimony to others – not that we are perfect but that we are saved.

karen - your side notes made me laugh!!
For some reason I read them in a whispered voice?!?!

Kate - I’m quite sure we have all been there. I have yet to meet a woman or a mom who hasn’t. As women we are loving and passionate and creative and smart. We aren’t perfect. That’s God’s thing. And it’s important to let our kids see that we can be wonderful and still have bad days. Hope your day is better.

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - Sweetest Meg, hang in there. All I can say is that I am so thankful for your honesty. I am so glad I am not alone.

adrienne - hang in there 🙂

patti - oh, and p.s. here is a link to her stuff: http://www.close2myart.com/shoppingcart/

patti - oh, you are so loved! i’ve been a huge fan of michelle’s artwork for years. her stuff is so amazing. i love the little wooden blocks. what a lovely day for you – revel in it!

Juli - If you’re crazy, I am far more so! Personally, I think you sound much more like a frazzled Mom than a psycho.

Melissa - oh how i love to read your blog. you are so real!

laurenjean - This makes me feel normal. I want so many different things all the time. one second I am envying Michell Duggar and her 19 kids, the next I am wondering if I will make it to nap time without locking myself in the closet and crying.
You’re real.
I like that.

Darcie L. - As a 30-year old child, 🙂 I am now realizing how wonderful my parents are, and what a great job they did. So, maybe your kids will come back to you in 10-15 years, spend the night in your home for Christmas or some other holiday, and then rise and call you “blessed.” I know I am recognizing that in my mom now more than ever. I just didn’t see it back then. 🙂

Emily B. - Not to say to that your struggle with swerving levels of motivation and conviction please me (I’m sorry to hear of your difficulty)… but I am blessed to know I am not alone in feeling similarly. Your vulnerability and honesty about the ups, downs and in-betweens helps me realize more and more that we are all in the same boat. This makes me want to grow in authenticity. Because if I try to cover up my struggles and weaknesses and look like I have it all together, than my friends, family and I will feel more alone/isolated in struggles. I think that’s just what the enemy wants, for us to be alone (with our doubts and lies) in our troubles.
Whoa, you hit a nerve, huh?! 🙂

Heather - Great post, just what I needed today 🙂

Courtney Walsh - Having a pretty rough day here…took my kids to their first day at their new school in a new state and there were lots of tears. Broke my heart. Thank you for this reminder.
Sweet gifts from sweet women. 🙂 Your reminder that you are loved…

Sara @ It's Good to be Queen - i. hear. you. oh man girl, i have been straight up psychotic lately. i don’t think my boys or my husband knows what the heck to do with me. seriously, i’m like a maniac. i keep praying that getting back into a routine will help…but i so need some alone time with Jesus i think . you don’t sound psychotic at all, by the way. you sound so normal, so thanks. misery does love company. 😉

rosemarie - meg you are so real and many women feel like you..moms don’t think their kids are listening to them and it’s all just a waste of time and energy(trying to be mom), but kids are listening and when their mothers are not around and they do the right thing, and when they grow up and turn into adults we are proud of them. we taught them well…

doe - Could you please share who gave you those painted signs/pictures? Love them!

Holly - Meg your post was just what I needed to read. I had a night like yours last night.

amandadod - This made me smile because your post sounded like most all of us feel. Being a mom is such a blessing and such a burden. But we aren’t expected to do it alone – God is big and He walks beside us … usually doing the heavy lifting. 🙂

kat - I hope you are feeling better today. From one frazzled mama to another, I know how you feel. Thanks for the encouragement and lifting me up. Hope today is wonderful for you! (Otherwise, just get yourself a hat…) Just kidding, seriously though, I hope today is a better day, my friend!

Gevay - Oh by the way Martha Peace has a book called Damsels in Distress about how to handle the emotions that all women have in a God honoring way.

Gevay - Meg this post strikes a cord with me. In our humanness we are never going to cut it. I often feel like you do, all over the place. I get angry then think “How does that look to my kids?” or “How am I reflecting Jesus?”. I think that excerpt you put in your post is right on. Less us and more of Him! Gevay

evan - my world feels very much the same right now: end of summer… approaching school routine again… not really sure how it will all go… trying to finish up a HUGE project and can’t because i’m literally sick. with something that feels like the flu.
thank God for Jesus, grace, mercy & husbands, right?
this too shall pass…

blu - as mamas we are a little crazy sometimes but as so many of the comments suggest and as mine will suggest also, you are not alone. keep being honest and we’ll keep responding and encouraging you and one another. our hope is in Him and as long as we know that, then there is joy waiting for us in the morning 🙂 be blessed Meg!

Tanya H - Nope you sound completely normal.
Having righteous desires to enjoy our children and spend time with them and build memories with them, but then still being human and feeling overwhelmed and being TIRED of the fighting and really needing a break. And then catching yourself and finding yourself right where you need to be.
Or maybe that’s me….that’s my week too. and I have seven more days for my oldest to go back to school and 14 for my younger one.

Christy - This is perfect timing for me. I just scolded my son last night because his glasses were missing & then I found them, high on a shelf to where only I would have put them. 🙁 What a reality check.

nicky - this is just what i needed to read this morning. thank you so much. my husband left for business and being by myself for 4 days creates so much anxiety in me. our 2 year old daughter has special needs and uncontrolled seizures so needless to say there are moments in every day when i am simply scared. and not having him near makes it even harder. sometimes i feel like i can’t do this but having encouraging words and reminders like you posted help more than you can imagine.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - Well, if it makes you feel any better, I’m making Your/Craig’s bbq meatballs for Calvin’s First Day of School dinner tonight. Why should that make you feel better? I have no idea. But I hope it does. But just in case it still doesn’t, I’m also making homemade mashed potatoes and PEAS (C’s fave) and Ginger Peach cake that is actually more of a pie-ish sort of thing.

miss r - Not crazy at all. In fact, it is comforting to know that I’m not the only one with what feels like schizophrenia at times. It always happens when I’m relying on my own understanding and abilities instead of His.

Trina McNeilly - well than i am a crazy hormonal wolf woman too. Sometimes it is just so refreshing to know you are not the only one floating around in crazy mom land. Wanting to be a good mom and a proverbs 31 woman and failing miserably at it and then waking up to start it all over again. I love that excerpt though. How true that we won’t be perfect but trying again, asking God for help and relying on HIM because we will never be good enough is the right example. Love it. And love your blog and your total realness!
Hope today is just briliant! xoxoxoxoox
Trina
ps-having a fun giveaway ….stop by!

Kathy T - Thank you. I thought it was just me. Even a diet busting ice cream cone and drive by myself couldn’t lift my horrible mood. On top of that, I know I’m letting my kids down by being so crabby. But like everything else in life, we’ll all endure. Tomorrow is another day. With any luck, it will be a better one. Or at least less crabby! 🙂

Taylor-Ann - Part fo the mom definition is crazy…and if not, it should be. We all have our moments and yours was yesterday and mine today. :o)
Hope your Tuesday is better than yesterday.
God is Awesome and works is wonderful ways!

Shannon - Meg,
I do not know you in real life. I love to follow you on your blog because you are such an inspiration to me. You are so brutally honest about life, being a wife, being a mother and just by being a woman that so many of us try to acknowledge. Or at least I try not to myself. I desire so much to be that Proverbs 31 woman myself and fall short by miles each and every day. I love the exerpt you wrote today…I may need to get that book and read it myself because it was very uplifting. I want to say thank you for continuing to have your blog and being honest with cyber world so that we all can see too that we are not the only women out there feeling the way you do much of the time and that you are someone most of us can relate to!

Lora - God IS good and thank goodness for that because us moms get a little crazy at times. Thanks for always speaking the truth …

Charity - Nope, not crazy at all, just real. I totally relate, and while I hate those times when I’m the crazy, angry, mom, I think they help push me in the right direction. They’re like a signal that something’s gotta give, or change, or be adjusted, you know?

Stacia - You’re amazing. Hope today goes better 🙂

Amanda - Thanks for the laugh! That video was a riot and I howled with laughter while watching. (while my husband said what? I didn’t get it…) LOL-yes, I made him watch him again.
With the school year approaching I find myself wavering between each of those moods minute by minute thruout the day-I feel totally psycho too. Missing them already and guilty for wishing them away-feeling selfish- but needing some alone time as well so badly I can taste it. You are not alone.

Lee Ann - I think you sound just like the rest of us! 🙂 That’s why I love checking your blog first thing in the morning.
Love that people blessed you right when you needed it. And that painting of Michelle’s…..sometimes I think that’s how we women are. The colors are cheerful, but the face is a little “off”. Hmmmm….
Love the quote about Proverb’s 31. It’s all Jesus!!!!

tara pollard pakosta - That’s women for ya!
full of emotion, thinking from one
thing to the next! no worries, you are NOT alone in this!
xoxoxoxox
tara

Deputy's Wife - Your side notes is what keeps it real. We are all in there with you honey.
Thank you for posting what you read, I needed that today. Really. May I ask what you were reading? I think I would like to read some more.

Christine Ishmael - Grab a girlfriend and go see “Eat, Pray, Love” with Julia Roberts AND grab the book to read…it changed my attitude and gave me a “big girl pill” at the same time…I’ve been a much nicer mom/wife this week because of the message…hopefully it will last…love ya Meg and your not crazy girl, we all feel these things…I wish my brain would slow down sometimes and just shut off…but I better be careful what I wish for! ha ha

Tracey Garcia - You don’t sound crazy at all! I have those days too. My kids go back to school on Monday and I am so not ready and blue about it. Especially since my baby is starting kindergarten and I will be going back to preschool (to teach) without him.
And the Annie hug—doesn’t that make it better? I know when one of my kids gives an unexpected hug, kiss or I love you it can soothe my heart. Except when I am totally aggravated and they say “mom?” and I respond when with a frutrated “WHAT!!?” and they say “I love you”—-then I feel like that horrible mother who deserves to be locked up—but don’t we all have those moments? Maybe that is God tapping us on the shoulder and showing us what really matters. 🙂

charity palmer - thanks for sharing and being so real on your blog! It’s helpful to a future mama to see the “real” side of things that can so often be left out. Proverbs 3:5-6…that says it all 🙂

Andrea - Thank you so mch for posting this and for being so real. I love that you’re vulnerable and allow your readers to go along on the journey with you. I feel the exact same way! Some days I’m teary because summer is over, then the next minute I’m frustrated with my kids and can’t wait to have a little more space during the day! I have thought the same thing with my blog…that I must sound like I have split personalities sometimes. The reality is, that it’s the journey that allows us the ups and downs. It’s the ebb and flow of our human-fleshy side and the spiritual-loving Jesus side. I pray, like many moms do (I think!), that the Jesus side wins over more than the fleshy side and rest in the fact that God has more grace for us than we give ourselves. You seem like a great (and really fun!) mom! Keep up the good work 😉

jill - Are you pms-ing like me????? I.FEEL.EXACTLY.THE.SAME.WAY! My gas tank is empty, as they say. This too shall pass…
xo~Jill

Susan - Meg, thanks for sharing. I struggle with being a Proverbs 31 woman as well as the fruits of the spirit. I was once told if I couldn’t identify all of the fruits of the spirit in my life that maybe I didn’t really have Jesus in my heart! That messed with me for a long time but I’m learning that it is a process just like you are. I told my daughter last week while I was so busy getting ready for vacation and preparing the house for remodel that is taking place while we are gone that I was ready to take her to the nearest fire station and leave her! She’s 10 and the light of my life and the closest thing to Jesus with skin in my life but sometimes…It’s just being overwhelmed. I only have the 1 daughter and you must be 5 times as overwhelmed as I am. Thanks for sharing your very normal life and helping the rest of us feel like we are not alone!

Lora - You had the same evening as me last night! Sigh…….thanks for sharing.

Susan - Hi Meg!
I have been reading your blog(obsessively) for a long time! I first loved you for your beautiful house, but continued to read because of your honesty, your eye for beauty and your “momness.” I enjoy you. Thank you for encouraging me! (I still love, love your beautiful house!)

Denise - sunday was my melt down. I was so hard on everyone and said some pretty harsh words. then sure enough, joyce meyer talked about our words yesterday and how powerful they are. let’s just say I was deeply convicted. thankfully, i am forgiven.

Emily - I appreciate your blog so much… it’s real… it’s how I feel so often and it’s nice to know I’m not alone… thanks for bringing inspiration, family love, the love for GOD and so much more to my life!

Samantha Lee - Crazy or not, this post inspired me.

Laura - the washing machine is STILL BROKEN???????????????????????????? I was there when it got fixed!!!!!!

laura - that gospel truth is exactly what you (&me!) need. so glad you heard it in that book & were encouraged!

heidi @ wonder woman wannabe - I can relate – that’s exactly why I started my blog.
The Proverbs 31 woman (I refer to her as wonder woman) is who I WANT to be, but I know I’ll never fully be at all times in every circumstance. I can only pursue that model (by HIS Grace) knowing I need to rely on His strength every step of the way and be satisfied with being who he created individual me to be.
So glad you were blessed today – God does know, thank goodness for that.
Your side notes gave me a giggle – We’re all in a perpetual state of prThat mogress and our minds are so feeble, aren’t they? That’s exactly why I’ve been dwelling on Romans 12:2 for some time now…

Angie - Meg,
I don’t know you, but I love your blog..I just want to encourage you that you are not alone and you don’t sound psycho! I can relate to everything you wrote. My kids started school last Wed and yesterday we had Epic Homework Battle #1 that involved a highly disrespectful teenager and a worn out mom who wondered “why am I doing this anyway?” I felt like such a failure! But, later, there were apologies and everything turned out OK. God is good…all the time and He loves us (and our kids) with an everlasting love. Thanks for your honesty.

elisa - Right there with you.

Kimberlee J. - I needed this badly this morning. Yesterday late was a wreck for me too. Here’s to the One who can improve any situation when we recognize Him in it. Love you.

Emily@remodelingthislife - What a blessing!!

Jennifer - Megan,
You don’t sound like a crazy woman, you sound like a REAL woman. Thanks for keeping it real. You’re always a breath of fresh air! And I am so thankful to know I am not the only one jumping from the optimistic and fun to do lists to feeling grumpy, etc. THNAK YOU for being vulnerable! YOu’re a blessing to me. Praying for you today.

Lori - Meg, thanks for being honest and sharing your life, the ups and downs too. You aren’t crazy, rather you are normal. My son doesn’t start school until 9/7, but we take my daughter to college for her first year a week from today…so I am up and down, between YES YES YES and NOOOOOOOO. A bittersweet time that includes lots of nostalgia for sweet hugs from my kids. Hugs!

Amy Lynne - Sounds like life! There are ups and downs, great days and days we wish for a “do over” button! It’s all the pieces that make us appreciate what we have even when we have to take a deep breath and pray for peace in our hearts to make the situation better! I’ve been taking a lot of those breaths lately, but I think it’s the time of year that has everyone a little squirrel-ly! Good luck sweetie, things will settle down and you will have better days!

Tara - just beautiful.
such truth.
such realness.
it’s a beautiful moment when any of us recognize that we can’t do it but He can.
his strength is made perfect in our weakness.
thanks for sharing your moment of seeing His bigness/your smallness.

Vicki Esh - I just discovered your blog recently (how did I not know about you until now??). I am in love with your blog because you’re so honest. . .Thanks for keepin’ it real!

Katy Stone - This was encouraging to read. Thanks for being so real. Praying now that Christ will restore you as you sleep and you will wake up refreshed in His spirit!

Tracy - Awww… sending big big hugs your way my friend that today is a much better day for you. No matter how hard of a good mom, friend, sister, wife we all try to be – there are just those days that get to us and break us down. I think you are a fantastic mom and can’t imagine you ever getting angry – LOL On the flip side – I think it was SO SWEET that Annie came and gave you an “arm” hug – she must have known you really needed it and God sent her to bless you at that very moment. :o) I hope that today is a much better day for you and I look forward to seeing the new back to school photos of your beautiful family. xoxoxo

edie - Yes! Christ lived a perfect sinless life in our place.
We trust in His perfect obedience completely because we will never measure up.
And we learn to live in repentance, before God and our little ‘neighbors’.
Redemption is beautiful.
And so are you.
lots of love,
edie

Julie - Meg, I think so many of us can relate to this and I think it really comes down to expectations. We, as mothers, expect so much of ourselves (especially ourselves), our kids, our husbands, and we really do want our lives to be picture-perfect even though we know they aren’t and never will be; not that there’s anything wrong with expectations, even very high expectations. Expectations are good ~ they give us something to live UP to. But sometimes we have to bring them down to our real life experience. I’ve learned to expect from Christ and He (alone) lives up to those expectations ~ He never fails. Thanks for sharing the devotional ~ very good, very encouraging. Hope you are feeling better soon! 🙂

Christina - Meg, I think this post is just perfect. I struggle so. I struggle with being a Christian and having depression and OCD. How does it work? Why isn’t Jesus enough? But really, do I even give him a chance to be? Those are such powerful words that you shared. I love that…Proverbs 32 woman. How that rings true! ha I can lie in bed feeling so angry and resentful because my littlest one won’t let me sleep and get so furious and hateful in my head that I don’t even go to church. My husband is on staff! Talk about not setting the right examples. I don’t really know what I’m trying to say. Thanks for sharing your honest days.

Gemma - Hope you’re feeling refreshed soon!
Gemma x

Dana @ Bungalow'56 - Megan,
Well I think you are writing about the stuff many of us feel. But unlike you, we gloss over it, afraid to write about our crazy days for fear that maybe…we might sound crazy. I am writing this comment to you at 2:40 am instead of sleeping. Take some time for yourself, eat some chocolate, and tomorrow will be a much better day.
Dana

Angela - I really relate to your side-side note. It’s to hard for me to be all things to everyone………..sometimes I’m resentful, then I feel guilty. Being a mother is a wonderful blessing but darn it’s hard sometimes.
My kids started school last week and I do miss them but I really miss not having to get up at 5am so everyone gets fed and to school on time.
I just have to remind myself I’m human and sometimes I will fail but it’s ok.
I hope the rest of your week goes well! I’ll keep you in my prayers.
