happy monday.

so far it’s been a good one.
i got myself into workout gear and did my Pump workout.
i really wanted to skip.  but i had skipped the day before so i couldn’t do that again.
i knocked that out of the way and now i’m working at the Craft House.

last week we had the best date night!
and it was for craig’s work… so technically not even a date.

IMG_2270
Avett Brothers came to wichita again!
they are in our top five favorite bands.  (probably in the top two…)
this was our third time to see them in concert.
i was smiling all night.
i love those avett boys.
i just watched a ton of youtube videos trying to find the perfect one but i always end up back to the 15 minute session on NPR.
it’s just my favorite.
the BEST part is Seth at 4:30 (ha ha ha)
they don’t sing it like that on the album but ever since i saw this video a few years ago i insist to craig that it be sung that way in the car and with great volume.
🙂
and at the concert… THEY DID!!!

IMG_2278
and i bought my first concert t-shirt!

wait….that’s not true.
i bought one at a sandi patty concert in 6th grade… i borrowed money from a friend to buy it…and still owe her that money.
and oh how i wish i had a photo!!!
it was a GIANT oversized shirt with i think a rainbow colored scribbly kind of drawing of SP singing.
it went fabulous with my perm and stir-up pants.
i feel like i’ve shared too much….

_______________________________________________________________

anyway…
craig left the next morning for a ski trip with his friends.
i asked for group selfies and he sent me several. 🙂
i have decided the my love languages are (i have several)
1. going to the movies
2. going to concerts
3. group selfies
4. bringing me hot coffee in the morning

HA.
i am so darn happy that he is out having a good time!
he works hard at everything all. the. time.
this guy deserves a break and time to just have fun!

with him gone i was in charge of getting annie to her first basketball tournament.
oh boy.
the weather was AWFUL and i was a mess but we made it.
i may have even started crying in the car when we finally arrived safely.
i was mad for several hours at the weather but that does no good does it?
annie did great!
i can’t believe the love that has built in my heart for kids basketball in the past 10 years.
i am so grateful for that.
because if i didn’t have it… these tournaments could be great dividers instead of uniters.
IMG_2345
they are 10 years old so everything is still about learning how to play.
everything she said about losing or frustration or missed shots i would answer with some form of:
“you’re learning a lot in every game”
“i liked how you stayed feisty”
“just keep trying”
because you know there are so many parents out there that break your heart at those games.
it’s rough you guys.
they get craaaaazy.
it’s the most bizarre thing to watch go down.

bottom line: she loves basketball.

this is what happens when you forget to collect the eggs in freezing weather…. bummer.

lastly…. i HAVE to tell you about a big giveaway with Marta over at FourFitSisters.com!
They are giving away a Les Mills Pump program!!!
that’s worth A LOT of money and also… it’s no longer available!
what a super prize!

les-mills-pumpIMG_1578
Go over to FourFitSisters and enter to win the whole PUMP program!
it’s my favorite workout i have done.
i am getting stronger every workout!
i love knowing i will be strong enough to add all the weight on eventually.
i KNOW IT.

hope your monday is going well.
craft house laundry is half done… planning my meals & workouts for the week… waffle has a haircut today… and a huge list of emails need to be written.

blerg.

Mindy - Oh for the love of stir-up pants. I had a red pair that I wore with an over-sized white shirt that had red, blue and green full sized handprints all over it. I seriously hope there are not pictures…I can still hear Sandi Patty talking about wanting to be Barbara Streisand – so funny. My first (and only) concert T-shirt is a Steven Curtis Chapman. I wore it out. Lucky you with your recent concert! Since it is far from Monday I will wish you a happy weekend : )

Melissa - Hey Meg,

I wanted to get your real opinion on this workout. I have been over to their site and I was looking at the Pyro workout. My friend which is an exercise instructor said it was really hard.

Do you really like this one you are doing now?

I am not a fan of exercise, but I feel better when I do it. I need to find an exercise program that I can do five days a week just to stay in shape and be able to eat sweets!

So I would appreciate your thoughts.

Warmly,
Melissa

Michelle Deckert Richmond - Kids sports….where we spend a good chunk of our time. I read somewhere the best 6 words to say to your child….”I love to watch you play.” They smile everytime I say this to them. I have 3 girls in hockey and one girl in horseback riding. Michelle from Canada.

jen - Stir up pants! I totally forgot about those….I wore them A LOT and loved them! And I totally agree with you, some of these parents are CRAZY! My son is 9 and into basketball and some of the parents are jumping up and down screaming at the poor kids. It’s insane.

Barbara (WA) - I always cried at Sandi Patti concerts – and I was already an adult 🙂

jill - I think “stay feisty” is going to be my new life’s mantra =)

Lynn - Use those eggs to make hard boiled eggs. They will peel SUPER easy!

what 2015 means for me.

well… this is a big year for me.

i turn 40 in september.

(pause for effect)

that’s ridiculous.

i certainly don’t FEEL like i thought i would at 39.
it always seemed old.
my teachers at school were 40!
i remember my parents turning 40?!
how am i this age already?
my friends and family have all turned forty but i am the young one?!

last year my 2014 word was HEALTHY.
this year… energy?   intensity?  strength? action?

i pick ACTION.

it works for exercise & health but also for some other things i want to do this year too.

this is not a new year’s resolution because i didn’t start in january.
i was just too tired.
but it’s time to get serious.
i can’t turn 40 right now… i don’t feel physically ready!
i have some things to accomplish.

for me – 40 = fitness.

i am currently using the Les Mills PUMP workout.

(you can order it through that link and have Marta be your coach!)

i was using PiYo and i liked it but i missed the weights… so i switched over to pump.

i’m drinking a ton of water.

eating lots of protein and veggies.

limiting wheat and dairy and sugar.

i have 249 days to feel different.

i want to “LIKE” exercise.
and healthy food!
so i am faking it till i make it. 🙂

and of course i would like to lose a little more weight but that would be a happy bonus.

i want to keep running!
i have been SO LAZY about it.
so that has to stop.

workout
obviously this outfit would help me perform better…right? (from dicks sporting goods)

i’m signing up for 4 races in the next 8 months.
for reals.
because that is a great way to stay motivated.
you have to register for the race ($$) and stay in shape so you can RUN it without bumming yourself out.

and the more PUMP i do… the stronger i will be so it’s a win-win.

Marta has a helped me so much this year.
she has taught me about food & health and is such an encourager.
i’m sticking by her side this year too! (virtually… not in real life 😉
she has a nutritional group starting feb. 13 that YOU could join and feel better in a matter of days!
contact her through her Facebook page.  You won’t regret it!

but the main thing i have to do is JUST DO IT.
i have a million excuses that go through my head every day but none of those will help me reach my goals.

what about you?
what’s your word for 2015?
what are you doing this year… reading more?  massage?  rest? getting involved?  working out?

share with me! i’d love to hear that everyone else is working towards something too!

Lisa - My word this year is intentional. I am trying really hard to be present in my little world. MY little world. That means no more Facebook (which surprisingly I don’t miss at all). That means staying off the phone and away from the television. That means more time with my husband and kids. That means more time spent taking care of myself. All really great things, and I super excited about this year. I am ready to be a better me, and to leave a legacy of love for my family. I am going to be present….

patti - Hi! If you ever want to change things up, try Fitnessblender. It’s free workout programs online. Dare I say that it has changed everything for me! I despise exercise, and it’s the only ” program” that I’ve ever really stuck to. And I’m 44! I think it’s because I saw results right away…not necessarily in weight loss, but in how I felt. Like an athlete, which I’m not! Anyway, just thought I’d share what has worked for me. This year, for me, is about being fit. Not what my scale says, but how I feel inside and out. Hopefully, strong, positive and healthy! Good luck!

Ekta - This was on my fb timeline….thought of this post of yours I read this morning….had to come here and leave the link.

http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/4537538

Jenni - My word for 2015 is rhythm. In 2013 we moved to a new state. In late 2014 we bought a house in the new state. We are finally feeling settled and at home in our new state, so I really want to find our rhythm again. I thrive on routines in every way…health, money, housekeeping, grocery shopping, family life…but routines are very rigid and make you feel guilty when you break them. I need grace and flexibility. I need rhythm.

Kathy - My word for this year is one that I really want to focus on. It is Christ-like. I’m not sure if it’s actually one word or a hyphenated word, or if it’s two words. But I know all things are possible through faith in Jesus Christ, and I want to be more like Him. I have a laundry list of areas in my life that I could improve in, not the least of them being my body. I’m ashamed of what I’ve let my 55 year old body become and I intend on improving it and getting it stronger. One day at a time.

Necole@seriouslysassymama - My word is strength. I was diagnosed with MS back in October, and it threw me for a loop. I have always focused on everyone around me, and now have been forced to focus more on me. I have to have the strength to keep going with my new diet, meds, and exercise. I do not want to be in a wheelchair. I was never really overweight to begin with, but I am down to 120 from 140 and feel great. I am also back to work full-time, so I really need the strength to keep everything organized.

Madelyn - My mom is a pump instructor- she’s my fitness inspiration! Good luck with your goals, races are such fun motivation!!

stephany - I also turn 40 this year…in June!

My word for the year is LOVE.

I am also trying to get into great shape. I am using the hashtag (along with a lot of others) #fitbyforty on IG.

vanessa - Have you ever tried T-25? It’s horrible but it’s only 25 minutes of horrible and good all at the same time. I’m on week 5 and never been in better shape – sometimes I even feel like I can do a short run afterwards just to put in 45 minutes/day. I could only do half of about everything when I first started, but stuck with it and now can pretty much do the entire 25 minutes without stopping on most days. It’s hard – a good hard, but I feel STRONG! (And I turned 40 last week)

kelly - I sign up and pay for races that is how I keep running…posting on instagram (@fireflygirls) keeps me accountable too!! Good luck…I have a big birthday in January of 2017…add ten yoars to your 40…my goal is to run the dopey challenge at the WDW Marathon weekend…YIKES!!!

Lee Ann - I turn 40 in March! And I’m just finishing my first week of LesMills Pump. Loving it! I missed the weights too. Can’t wait to see what “action” looks like for you this year!

Kathie - Since I just turned 44 last week and I have a 6 month old at home (first, surprise, miracle child). I think this year the only word I have time for is “Mommy”. With it taking us so long to have her, I want to enjoy every little second I can while she is so little.

Susan A - I turn 50 in April. Our 8 year old keeps me young(er) and tired(er). 🙂 My word is FOCUS…I need to focus on eating healthier, exercising, organizing, better sleep, family time, GOD, work, me…and not necessarily in that order. It’s only 83 days till 50. It just doesn’t seem possible. I remember sitting around at college back-in-the-day joking with friends that we’d be 35 in the year 2000. We thought that was an eternity away…then BAM! There it was and life marches on. Love your blog! ~Susan~

Elizabeth - I am turning 30 this year! Totally freaking out, not where I wanted to be at this point in my life. I am glad I have until December to make this my year!
I don’t have a word for this year…
My focus is family, spending more on purpose time with purpose.

marcie - My word is Balance. I’m looking to balance so many things in a much better way this year… I’m striving for balance.

Denise - My words for the past few years have been “grateful evolution” I love that it makes me focus on the gifts I’ve been given and in and through the tough things God is changing me. I’m evolving, becoming who He knew I was all along. I’m 53, I did a Spartan this year and we are signed up for a half marathon in April. I asked my husband if he thought maybe we should do a 5k first! He said go big or stay home! lol I’m excited for you in your action days and look forward to being even more inspired by you as you press on toward the goal God has in mind for you!! You got this

Stephanie Wilson - I turn 40 in April and it is motivating me like nothing ever has! I am in the process of posting my first novel on my blog, which is so scary for me. And like you, fitness is very important. My goal is to run a 5K this year and hopefully do more after that. I started doing Blogilates (on Youtube) workouts this month and she kicks my butt! But I love the feeling of accomplishment when I am done. If I had to choose a word for 2015 it would be happiness. I am finally figuring out what makes me happy and that I am worthy of it. Love your blog, it is always a bright spot in my day.

Lesley - I feel ya! I’m turning 50 in August! I have no idea how this happened, like I haven’t even decided what I’ll be when I grow up yet. I still feel young (er). Fitness is key! I’m so glad you steered me to Marta. She’s the bomb and I love Pump…it’s one of the best things I’ve done for myself. Don’t you feel so strong when you lift that bar?…love it.
My word for 2015 is…..quiet…for thinking, reading, creating and maybe even figuring out what to be whn I grow up. Love you Meg! xox

Kristen - i absolutely LOVE les mills pump! it might be my all time favorite workout. i love how it makes me feel athletic and strong even though i am completely uncoordinated! i have gotten some instructor dvds off ebay so i can keep adding a variety of pump workouts to my rotation.

i adore that outfit… super cute!

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - I turn 40 in March and canNOT believe it!

My word for the year is background – making sure I give the glory to Him!!

Jolene - A great blog I read (Katie from Runs for Cookies) covered this recently. Here’s the link…..

http://www.runsforcookies.com/2015/01/get-it-over-with.html

Bethany - I don’t have a word, but the main thing I am focusing on is making time reading my bible and playing a priority. It seems that all the other things fall into place better when I make that a priority. Of course I have goals for my health and fitness, my kids, my marriage, my business, but first things first…it’s God.

I have been doing PiYo and love it, but also bought Les Mills Pump for the weight training. I like the combo of the two.

Barbara (WA) - I’ve got to get my health back in 2015. I’ve had a series of misadventures including a broken wrist. Working on getting strength back so I can do what I love – gardening, growing flowers to sell, lifting my grandson!!!

Meghan Elkins - Races = ACTION! Can’t wait to continue to follow your year of action! 😀

Elaine - Turning 40 isn’t so bad….it really is just a number 🙂 I love your attitude and the energy you are approaching it with, it is going to be a great year! My word for this year is STRONG. I want to be strong spiritually, emotionally and physically. Mostly I want to set a good example of a strong woman for my kids. Have a great day!

Crystal - I love LM Pump!! A friend introduced it to me last summer. We both feel like you see such great physical changes fast. ( Or faster than other forms of exercise). Can’t wait to hear how you like it!!

janetg - Oh to be forty again!! And whether you believe it or not I thought being in the 50s’was the best!! Oh shock of shocks! I will be 69 on my next birthday!! Where did the time go? Other than some aches and pains I still feel 40–but have none of the responsibilities of 40!! Enjoy every minute of each year.

Amy am - Action is my word this year too! I’m trying to do less planning and dreaming and thinking about things and just do them – big or small. Health and fitness is a big part of that.

I turn 30 in March, and I’m having a pretty hard time with it. The joys of major milestones…

Lynette - Hi! I turned 40 last year and I am working so hard on becoming healthy this year. I did Marta’s sugar detox in December and it rocked my world, I felt so much better and had so much more energy. I have since started running and exercising and it has been so good. I have cheated a little with my eating and need to work on that a little more but I learned so much through that detox. I don’t love exercise yet but i like it more than when i first started and i definitely appreciate what it does for me! Good luck with your races in the next few months. My husband and I are running a tough mudder in March and I am nervous and excited as I train for that!

Tricia @ The Domestic Fringe - Oh, man, I’m turning 40 in February. I’m like, “Say what?”
How did this happen. It’s still like I’m 30! Anyway…I started a new year long blog series called, Conquering Forty, because ya, I’m gonna conquer this decade. You will too. I know it!

Love your “action” word. You’re quite the inspiration for me with your health and fitness. I admire the work and dedication you put into being healthy. Way to go!

~FringeGirl

Janine - “i have 249 days to feel different”
Aak! We have the same birthday. It’s in 249 days? I’ll be 37 and that means I need to be in a better place physically to try to have another kid before 40. My word for the year is “improvement”. I want to improve on areas of my life. Health, fitness, organization, home improvements, etc. so Improvement it is.

Jenny B. - I didn’t choose a word this year, but I really like yours! I was just joking with my husband this evening, calling myself a woman of inaction. So, maybe “action” would be a good word for me to aspire to this year! 🙂

molly - well. we just welcomed baby #4 on jan 6th. so 2015 is going to be a year full of change and milestones in our family. so right now my words for jan and feb. and possibly beyond are relax and enjoy. i am trying not to sweat the small stuff, make sure i am focused on what is important, and enjoy this time in our life. the days are long but the years are short.

my friday thoughts…

hey peoples.

how are you?  how was your week?

i feel like i am not sure what day it is… what time it is… am i awake?

it is getting a little hazy in my brain.  moving is kind of a lot of work.

(the neil diamond playing on the radio at the coffee shop is NOT helping)

let’s talk about… the 21Day Fix.

confession:  i basically took a week off of exercise (other than some walking) and a few days from the healthy eating.
it’s so hard when you let yourself off the hook even one day.
the next day is SO much easier to make an excuse.
and then the next.
and same can be said about cookies or chips.

but last night i set my phone alarm for 6 AM and put my phone in the bathroom so i HAD to get up to turn it off.
it’s about the only thing that can pull me out of my DEEP sleep.
and i set out my clothes the night before too.

i sleepily did the Dirty 30 and 10 minute abs.
My kids had a rough morning… late night/hormones/hunger/rushing so it was really good i had gotten up and exercised because i wouldn’t have handled it the same had i just woken up to the sound of fighting.

one silly thing that helps me enjoy a smoothie (or two) everyday…Milkshake Straws.
fri5
i buy them at Bed, Bath & Beyond.
but it looks like you can order Milkshake Straws right here on amazon.  🙂
they are big.
i wash them and re-use them if i remember to rinse out my smoothie cup right away.
(it is the little things that change a day isn’t it?)

the 21 Day Fix does not say to do this but i am trying really hard to eliminate wheat from my diet.
It is not easy!
the first reason is craving things i like – duh.  (and i am weak!)
and second… wheat is in EVERYTHING!
geesh!

how are you doing… are you on the 21 Day?  are you doing your own thing?

i would love to hear about it.

——————————————————————————————————–

let’s talk about… the new house.
🙂

we are getting really close to moving in.
so exciting.
the floors are done and  looks like a different house altogether!
IMG_5710
the kitchen is halfway in… they brought in the cabinets so the countertop people could make a template.
so by next week it should all be done.
i love it all so far.

fri6
i took these two pictures on the same day.
one in the morning and one in the evening.  🙂

in the picture below….

1. the wall we tried to take out.
we opened it up and found it was full of wires.
blerg.
we considered the options… decided it wasn’t worth the money to move all the wires.
i am still bummed about it.
but it is no biggie… nothing to cry about… not that i did.
(and if i did… no one saw me and you can’t prove it)

image-3
2.  this is going to be an A M A Z I N G  island.
i am super pumped about it.
one big shelf for microwave and mixer, the ninja and the toaster.
all under the counter but easily accessible.
and all the rest are drawers.  YES!
i am PRO-DRAWER.

3.  new tiles will go around the gas fireplace.
YAY.
and of course the mount is already installed for the tv.
of course it is!  everyone always starts with their favorite things.
and that is why i bought a daisy chandelier this week….it’s my “tv mount”

4.  the wall we did take out.
just half of it…. lets in so much light just by taking out 5 feet of a half wall?!
so glad we did it.

the girls can’t quite decide how they want their rooms to look.
i am hoping for something like this…
fri1afterlight-4
the boys don’t really care.
and i have about 79 ideas in my head right now of things i want to start on today.

fri3fri2
at this point i am ready to be done.
ready to be moved in already.  ready to be IN and not have tools and dust everywhere.
but it doesn’t work like that does it?
lots more work to come in the next two weeks.

———————————————————————–

and lastly…

if you live in the st. louis area… i need you to tell me the best places to go as a grown up lady.
no kids.  no dudes.
where to eat… where are the best places to thrift and antique…. what is a great hotel… what neighborhood?

i know you girls will hook me up.

———————————————————————–

natalie@thesweetslife - as far as food goes in STL…
Kaldi’s for coffee
Ted Drewes for frozen custard (you must you must you must!)
Sasha’s Wine Bar or Pastaria for dinner (you really really cannot go wrong with Pastaria!)

Melissa Getts - I’m a little behind on my blog reading, but if you still need ideas for STL – I love the London Tea Room, a whole menu of teas, and I believe they still serve breakfast and lunch in true British style. Also, even more, I love Osage! With exposed brick and huge windows, old wavy glass, I love the atmosphere! They serve a wonderful breakfast and use fresh veggies and herbs, even berries in season grown in their on-property gardens. There is a little shop with gardening-inspired gifts, and an outdoor courtyard with additional tables, as well as plants for sale. Loved the food, loved the atmosphere! Have fun! SO much shopping in that area as well, as others have mentioned!

Ginger king - Meg I am Heidi Claassen aunt she was a teacher for your child. She is pregnant with her 3rd child he has been diagnosed with downs
Heidi has a blog
Heidiclaasen.blogspot.com
I’m sure it would mean a lot to her to hear from you

Caitlyn - I’m about 30 minutes south of Downtown St. Louis, there’s a historic town called Kimmswick. Its adorable, lots of unique shops and restaurants and of course the world famous Blue Owl. I reccomend Dough Depot they have pretzel bread sandwiches.. yum! Gus’s of course is a must, and Ted Drewes. Soulard is a fun neighborhood too. Chesterfield has everything as well! tons of shops, outlet malls, restaurants, pretty much anything.

Bridget - I second the suggestion on Cyrano’s in Webster Groves (http://www.cyranos.com/) for their desserts. It’s decorated in pink! How fun is that? Also, Bailey’s Chocolate Bar in Lafayette Square (http://baileyschocolatebar.com/). The neighborhood has such beautiful, French style homes. And sometimes they have a tour of homes so you can see how they’re decorated inside!

Candice - Wow! You guys work fast. The kitchen is coming together. LOVE the paint chip colors. AND that pink chair. Fun!

Gina - I did the 21 day fix because of you and I am so glad I did. When we started (my husband is doing the food part too), we went gluten free. It was going to be just for the first 2 weeks. It made such a difference that we don’t want to go back. Psychologically, reading “Wheat Belly” helped because it made me think wheat is evil. Imagine “The Water Boy’s” mama saying “It’s the Devil!” I love cookies, cake and pie but haven’t had any since starting 21 day fix 4 weeks ago. It is absolutely amazing how the cravings are just gone. I keep some dark chocolate in my purse so that when I want a little something it hits the spot.

P.S. In the first 3 weeks, I didn’t lose any weight but I think it is because I had no muscles. I lost 6″ but no weight. I am getting stronger every day and hope by the end of 6 weeks some weight will fall off too.

*****ALMOST FORGOT TO TELL YOU!!!!!!!! Target has packs of Bubba straws. You can get a pack of 4 or 5 for $5. I love that Bubba cup mostly because of the rubber straw — plus it’s cute.

Michelle Deckert Richmond - Too bad about that kitchen wall….think of it as a great location for a “gallery wall”. The place is looking awesome. Bright and open. Can’t wait to see your special style transform it.

Julie Gugel - Zia’s on the hill. Then across the street is St. Louis bakery.

Jessica Kiehn - You have a God-given gift to take something from boring to beautiful. LOVE the house- I like the way you think!!

kim - I did the 21 day fix with Marta..same time as you because of you ;-)…stopped wheat and my beloved diet pepsi…hit and miss on the exercise. I so agree that once you excuse yourself it is much easier to keep excusing yourself..going to get back on track with exercise.
Would love to see the finished house 🙂 thinking of remodeling our kitchen and love the island storage.

Kim

Wendy Cordia - St. Louis is so much fun (but I’m biased because I live here). I agree with the Chase Park Plaza hotel recommendation. Another fun hotel is The Cheshire Inn (English themed with pubs and restaurants) near Forest Park (Art Museum, History Museum, Muny Outdoor Theatre). For dining – try the Boat House in Forest Park or Crown Candy (delicious shakes) for casual daytime dining. For evening, try Jimmie’s on the Park (in Demun area) and on your way to/from there walk to Shasha’s Wine Bar or Demun Oyster Bar (my favorite, and I don’t like oysters!). Demun Oyster Bar has a fun menu of vintage cocktails served in unique vintage glassware (think Mad Men). Plus, to die for Sweet Potato chips. Be sure to get the Beignets there for dessert! Antique shop ideas are: The Green Shag Market (on Manchester) and TFA (The Future Antiques store – all 70s finds) on Chippewa (near the famous Ted Drewes frozen custard). Have so much fun!!! Can’t wait to hear what you do while in the Lou.

Cathy Barnes - OK.. so here’s a place you CAN NOT miss when visiting STL…

T. F. A. – The Future Antiques. This store features all kinds of cool stuff from the 50’s 60’s, and 70’s. Everything from decor, to kitchenware, linens to furniture. ALL in mint condition and organized thoughtfully. It’s a TOTAL blast from the past. You will LOVE it!

They are not in the location mentioned on the video. They now are at: 6514 Chippewa in beautiful South St. Louis! While you are there, go around the corner to Legrand’s Market and get an awesome deli sandwich, then walk south to Ted Drewes for some legendary St. Louis frozen yogurt! It’s a great outing for sure!

I live 4 blks. from all of this, so if you need a guide for the day… I’m in!

Check out T.F.A. The Future Antiques on Facebook.

ALSO… they’re some great shops on Manchester Ave. in mid-county.

This one,http://www.missouriantiquemalls.com/warson-woods-antique-gallery/ is a bit pricey… but there are two across the street that are really fun!

Another area: Big Bend Ave. near Manchester – Treasure Aisles and another shop immediately next door. You an kill hours in those two.

Hope this helps!

kim cole - Moonrise Hotel in The Loop – boutique hotel with mid century modern vibe, lots of space related zchotkes, an awesome view of the city from their roof top bar, and close to locally owned specialty stores-some of my favs are Ziezo, Phoenix Rising, and Craft Alliance. On Grand So. Grand check out Upcycle Exchange where you purchase post-consumer art and craft supplies at pay-as-you-wish pricing. Close by is Tower Grove Park, a Victorian era walking park with picnic gazebos, ruins then walk to the world class MO Botanical Gardens – bring your camera!

Heather Henricks - Love the new house!! Your style is perfecto! I did the 21 day fix in February too (I met your friend Jill in my group with Marta!) The containers made it easy, didn’t it?? My youngest daughter thought that she should use the containers for her AG doll :). I’m still doing the DVDs in conjunction with the gym. Its fun!! Not too hard . I can’t wait to see the rest of your new house. Its going to be a gem!! Thanks for sharing!

Elizabeth - I’m impatiently waiting for the 21 Day Fix to arrive. I preordered last month and now they are saying late April. I’ve only read great things about it so I can’t wait to get started.

Your house is looking great. I remember doing all that when we bought our house 9 years ago. Now, it’s time for us to go back and redo some areas and I’m learning it’s so much harder with kids 🙂

Mrs. H - Oh what fun paint names!

Lisa Vinograd - They also have those big straws (in a color pallet that is way more you) at ikea! aqua, yellow, red, pink!! So fun!

Jill - I have been doing the 21 day fix since February – well, sort of. I did the first 21 days perfectly – no wheat, no dairy, exercised etc…felt great. Then we went on spring break and I did pretty good – worked out a lot, ate ‘pretty good’ but since returning it’s been terrible. All sorts of momma responsibilities and work have gotten in the way of working out and my eating has been ok- I need to re-commit. Thanks for the push and the reality check.
Your 40’s house looks great btw.
xo~Jill

Heather G - I am so glad you post about 21 day fix. I have my kit ordered and am just waiting on it to arrive.

Barbara - Hi, Meg,

Love how your house is coming along! I am so happy for your family and know many great memories will be made there.

The other readers gave you some great ideas for your visit to St. Louis but I’ll throw this one in if you are serious shoppers. In a western St. Louis suburb, Chesterfield, they just added two new outlet malls – Premium and Taubman. You may want to do something more restful than that but thought I’d throw that out there.

I hope you have a fun girl getaway when you’re here! You’ll sure deserve the break from all your moving activities.

Easter blessings,

Barbara
St. Louis

Meg - St. Louisan here too. Best places to stay are the Moonrise Hotel and Chase Park Plaza. Definitely check out Treasure Aisles on Big Bend Road. And, thee are neat Antique stores all over Cherokee Street. The Mud House is great over there for breakfast or lunch. Get a pretzel at Gus’s Pretzels that way too. If I were doing a me only trip in the STL, I’d also hit up RISE coffee house and Choquette French Bakery. And, visit the Botanical Gardens (not far from RISE and Choquette). Love our city. Feel free to email with questions. Have lived in St. Louis city all my life and have tons of city recommendations!

Kori - Funshine and Freckles??? I would use those colors just so I could tell people the names!! Love. Them.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - The daisy chandy.
LOVE.
Especially next to that B&W pillow.
You’re the Godfather of colour. You know that, right?
Okay fine, GodMOTHER.
Also, I accidentally spelled “colour” the British way.
Am I secretly fancy???

Lyn - The mud house is a great coffee shop breakfast place & there looked to be several fun little shops right around that area. I’m not from there but had breakfast at the mud house last time I was there on a recommendation & I was not disappointed!

Lyn - The mud house is a great coffee shop breakfast place & there looked to be several fun little shops right around that area. I’m not from there but had breakfast at the mud house last time I was there on a recommendation & I was not disappointed!

andrea - I’m no help with St. Louis….sorry Your kitchen…Oh my word, I can’t wait to see more. Wheat….I’m with you! It is in EVERYTHING….and it is sooooo difficult. Hang in there…. yes, I am reading Wheat belly….are you?

Cassidy - I’m really thinking about doing the 21 Day Fix. It sounds like such a great program. I’m actually on a gluten free diet for medical reasons but YES wheat is in everything. There are tons of substitutes though so it definitely gets easier! 😀

The house looks beautiful.

Bethany - Hi Meg!!
I came to craft weekend in June of 2012 when i was newly pregnant with my twins!! They are 16 months old now and I still love checking in on you everyday! 🙂 I live in University City in St. Louis and I would say you can’t go wrong with staying at the Chase Park Plaza in the Central West End. There are amazing restaurants you can walk to, the area is fun & alive and the hotel is great..beautiful hotel pool and restaurants and even a small movie theater..it’s an old, renovated hotel. Beautiful!
For antiquing you would have to venture out the of the Central West End a bit but not too far, there are some along Manchester road & Big Bend that are only 10-15 minutes away from the hotel driving. Also I know there are some great places to shop antiques downtown in the “grove” area although I have not been to any yet. That is also 10 minutes away from the Chase.
Old town St. Charles is really quant and historical as well, although I can’t give any recs on hotels in that area, I haven’t been in awhile 🙂
Have a great time!

Maria - Here’s a couple ideas – Cyranos for bread pudding and Quintessentials for a little antiquing, only open the first seven days of the month. Downtown Kirkwood has a bunch of fun little shops, Moonbeans, Found, Christopher’s, the bug store and Down by the Station. Enjoy your time in my little neck of the woods.

Caroline - There is a restaurant on Manchester near treasure aisles antique mall (stated above) that is called home wine kitchen. It is cute, small and delicious.

Also! TFA (the future antiques) is a place you’ll love in St. Louis City (near ted Drewes!) http://tfa50s.com

I hope you enjoy your stay!

Emily - I lived in St Louis for about 7 years and moved about 7 years ago. I highly recommend Treasures Aisles Antique Mall. (2317 S Big Bend Rd)
I lived in University City, which I loved, really old beautiful houses, great restaurants and shopping! I haven’t stayed here myself but there’s a newish hotel called Moonrise right in an area called the Loop.
My absolutely favorite restaurant is called “Modesto” in an area called the Hill. If you like Spanish tapas, you’ll love it.
Enjoy!

kimberly oyler - girl that kitchen has some seriously gorgeous light going on!

Lucy - I love the pasta house they even have one in the airport

Michelle from Australia - Today is my last day of my USA trip. I fly out of San Francisco in a few hours to Los Angeles. And then the 14-1/2 hour ‘hop’ home to Brisbane, Australia.

It has been a marvellous few weeks in San Fran, Upstate New York and Seattle but it’s time to go home to hug my children and get back to our crazy version of ‘normal’ life.

My concern? That my husband and children have had WAY too much fun in my absence and that Mum being home again won’t be as exciting for them as it will for me. Please God they will have missed me….at least a little 🙂

Lisa - Ohhhh….I have so many ideas of where you should go, eat and stay in our fair city! I think you should stay at the Chase Park Plaza in the Central West End. It is a wonderful hotel and has an in-house spa where you can get your nails done and then go sit by their beautiful pool with a cocktail! It is a very walkable area with tons of restaurants, bars and cafes, plus right across the street from Forest Park – so gorgeous and fun in the spring! Also, I believe there are many thrift & antique stores in the vicinity – Tower Grove Park area. When are you coming?? It would be so fun to show you around. 🙂

Elena - Hi! About St.Louis… I live in Italy, but I’m from St.Louis… I can Suggest a restaurant… Go to Paul Manno’s.. It’s in Chesterfield and its the best. Trust me and you’ll feel like a lady! (Just forget the 21 day FIX thing for a day!)

Debbie - Or….downtown Old St. Charles. Lots of antique shops, great little restaurants…super fun shopping 🙂

Debbie - Frontenac Hilton. Across the street from upscale mall (Pottery Barn Teen, William Sonoma, Saks, Neiman, Sur La Table), restaurants across the street, half mile from Galleria mall and shops (Crate & Barrel, World Market, Trader Joe’s, Maggiano’s, Urban Outfitters …), ten minutes from downtown StL. A really fun store is Gringo Jones on Shaw Ave. Crazy wild stuff 🙂 And it’s next to the Botanical Gardens which is a must-see when in the Lou. Have fun!

sunday morning.

well… i am writing from starbucks this morning.
talby has a volleyball tournament again and she has a two game break so i snuck over here for wifi.
and coffee of course.
IMG_3714
this is talby’s first time playing club volleyball.
it is good for her… she seems to like it a bunch… great group of girls.  🙂
we were all together for a few of her games last weekend… that’s FUN!
IMG_3717IMG_3719
and my week continued on with basketball games.
they are still undefeated!  Pretty excited for these boys!  Can’t wait to see how far they can take it this year.IMG_3811
update on the 21 Day FIX… i AM LOVING it!
for the first time in my life i think possibly i have worked out seven days straight?!
whaaaaat?
the workouts are only 30 minutes!
the meal plan – i rocked it.
i posted my plan earlier last week and i am going to make my week 2 meal plan today.
i will share it again and i will answer a couple of questions i had about meal planning with kids in mind also.

IMG_3859
i thought an all hot pink workout gear day was necessary for yesterday.
i needed some motivation since i didn’t do my workout in the morning… i kept putting it off.
so PINK to the rescue!

stanley is the most patient and fun little puppy!
PicMonkey Collagestan1stan2stan3
he just loves attention of any kind… even if it means dancing to annie’s sing-a-long.

ok…. gotta get back for the next game.
have a SUPER sunday!

Heather - Um you look so skinny I thought that. Selfie was Lauren. 🙂

Lisa - We spent all weekend at my 12 yr olds volleyball tournament too. We love watching her play! They lost in the championship which was hard. She had some tears over that. Fun to watch them play so hard! And glad she loves the game enough to care! Glad you had all the family there for some of it! So fun to all be together cheering on their sister!

Mindy - You are a great motivator with sticking to your healthy routine! I love the pictures with the dog. I have to admit to dancing with a patient doggie a time of two myself : )

Library Momma - Legs look great! Good for you!!

Carrie - I have never noticed how much you and Lauren look alike until the family picture of you all, and then the pink picture of you. With your hair back, you two are twins! 🙂

Lisa - I think it’s great that your whole family goes to each member’s games/events! A supportive family is awesome! 🙂

Jessica R - I was reading blogs this morning (and delaying my workout) and when I got to your review of 21Fix and your picture, I immediately put down my iPad, changed into my workout clothes and went for a run. True story. THANK YOU for the inspiration. You look so great!

Tiffany - ^^That’s Congrats!^^

Tiffany - Gongrats on 7 days. Do I hear 7 more? Good luck to you.

Aimee D - Meg, you are looking super skinny these days! I mean in a good way. lol

Stacy P. - LOVE volleyball! And I love Stanley. 🙂

all good stuff.

IMG_1312fabric stacks are everywhere at the Craft House.
big projects are underway.
i am overwhelmed and excited at the same time.
i will tell you about very soon!
IMG_1316this is pretty much the happiest photo i have ever taken.
ha ha ha
i snapped this picture of fabrics at Joann’s… rainbows are everywhere!
IMG_9450IMG_0631yesterday i found this afghan at one of our local antique stores.  🙂
the pink and lime green lured me in!IMG_0633this was the quilt i got at bearly makin’ it a few weeks ago.
it is one quilt square short on one entire side so it’s too small for a twin bed.
but the turquoise?!! oh my word.
IMG_0634i found this one a month or so ago at the thrift shop.
yep… $2.00!
it is a lap blanket… my favorite part is the use of taupe with the black.
rainbowi have been asked a million times to to show the full rainbow afghan that my friend Amy sent me.
it is the coolest blanket!
she found it at a garage sale for $1.00.
ONE DOLLAR!!!
insanity.
can you imagine the time it took someone to make this?! with the little pom poms?
it is beyond awesome.

IMG_0019annie asked me last night at bedtime… all tucked in and sleepy…

“do you think mom that sometime you can call the school and tell them i am sick and then we go to the craft house and make crafts all day?  and i could make you lots of coffee there.”
i said “wow that sounds like a really fun day! i do love when you make me coffee!”
she smiled with her sleepy face and said “i’m really good at making coffee.”

IMG_0397last week talby and i had a girls day after a dentist appointment.
i looked over at her and saw a young LADY instead of my little girl.
she is a breath of fresh air.
always smiling and kind to everyone… a peace keeper.

IMG_0619i made myself a chart.  🙂
1. a good excuse to use markers (NEW markers are the best!!)
2. i am no different than my 9 year old… needing a visible happy chart to keep me going.
3. i am two days in.  i am sore.  i did NOT want to go to bed last night but i did at exactly 11:16.
4. you can still join me even though you may not get 32 in 44 days.  You can make up your own goal for the end of the year and still use the hash tag #32in44 in Instagram so we can be a team together!  even if it’s the only one you do… ANY workout is better than no workout!

IMG_0137and lastly for this wednesday post…

MY SHOP!
there are lots of pillows in the shop right now but that is all there will be for quite awhile.
like… for months.
so now is the time to grab them because they will be gone.

🙂

pillow2pillow1AND i have a million or so vintage maps!
there is every state… most countries and a few really beautiful continent maps.
i have a soft map for a pretty map.
mapsAND i have a discount code right now… HOLIDAY10.

10% off your entire order.
🙂

ok…. it is now time for the 3rd of 32 workouts.
and LOUD music!

BLOGstripRNBW1000

tammy - i, too, love your rainbow blanket! what a jewel for only $1! i happened across the pattern for the blanket and thought i would share it with you.

Steffi - Your comment is awaiting Moderation – what does this meaning?

Steffi

jodie - i just read Julies comment -mowing lawns??!!!! – you are lucky lucky julie – i want to move to that part of the world!!!!how bout’ shoveling snow meg? counts?
ps – your girls are pretty awesome

Steffi - Dear Meg,

i´m from Germany and i read your blog for two years now and it is an everyday enrichment for me! I love to read about you and your Family!

Since a long time I already search a certain material of amy butler. It is the Number 9 of your pillow cases. The one with flowers in turquoise/pink and the pink/White Chevron on the back.
Can you tell me the Name of the fabric, please!
This would be really nice.

Many greets from Germany
Steffi

Tanya - I love Annie.

meg duerksen - it is three different sets of key hooks from target that are screwed into the wall next to each other. 🙂

diane - Hi…Love your blog. On the picture above with Annie, there’s jewelry hanging up….what is it hanging on? I’ve made something simular but can’t find a sturdy enough backing for my corkboard. Any recommendations?

Tracey - The turq quilt might be too small for a bed but that makes it perfect for your sofa! And a nap!!!I have a stack of quilts, on an old school desk, in our family room for sofa naps—love them!!! I’ve done my 3 workouts this week. I prefer 1st thing in the morning (before I get sidetracked) but I persevered and got in done at 2:00, finished just in time to go and pick up kids from schools.

Amy K. - NOOOOO!!!! It looks like I am too late for that awesome U.P. map. One of my people would have LOVED it as her Christmas gift. =(

Julie - What a wonderful colourful post. I would love to visit your antique stores for the fabulous finds you get. Does mowing the lawns count as a workout – if so I have done 2/44 this week.

mary - Hi Meg! I am trying to order some of those gorgeous shams but my shopping cart keeps emptying!!! Please help! thanks!!!

Kimberlee Jost - Such good stuff.
🙂

Linda - Always love your posts! Thanks you for the rainbows!!

Heidi Jo the Artist - Oh my, Annie… That quote almost breaks my heart, and brings tears to my eyes, because I’m afraid you said no. Take that day with Annie; you won’t regret it one bit! And the things she can learn from you, her mother=priceless. And the things you can learn from her too=priceless. My nephew died suddenly years ago, and that changed me forever. Our days ARE numbered. I wish that everyone could have the best relationship with their child/children. I believe school gets in the way of that. Family isn’t put first, unfortunately. People (especially the gov’t) think learning is more important than relationships, and that learning won’t happen as well, at home. Parents don’t trust themselves, because they were taught to not trust themselves growing up. In fact, I believe, learning happens even better when it is from someone we love, trust, and look up to. You know I could go on and on, and this is just my two cents, as you know! Anyhow, I finally ordered something sewn from your shop today! Truth be told, I was a little bit disappointed that I didn’t get one of those cool rainbow sweatshirts for my daughter awhile back (we are rainbow fans here too!) they sold out fast, and I was online right when your shop opened!?! Oh heck, I wish they had come in my size!! But I’m sure my daughter will love a squirrel pillow case, just as much! We have a few “pet” squirrels in our backyard that she has named. 😉 And $1 for that rainbow blanket, that is cRaZY good!

Amy - Megan, it makes my heart so happy to know that you love your rainbow blanket. As soon as I saw it, I thought of you. And that’s a very good thing, thoughts of you.

Kari - I LOVE all of the color!! Where did you get the colorful Ikat fabric from?!? 🙂

healthy?

i have been wanting to share my workouts and health stuff i have been doing this summer.
but at the same time… feeling nervous to share.
because who am i to talk about health and diet?
what do i really know?

but it was put on my heart this morning during my run that it was time to talk.

because everyone has to start somewhere when it comes to getting healthy.
you may be super tiny & fit and run 20 miles a week and if that is you… you won’t get much from this post.

but chances are… many of you are not and you wish you were.
wishing you were stronger.
wishing you were lighter.
wishing you had more energy.
wishing for control over what you eat.

i am just going to share some of what i have been thinking about and doing for me & you can take it or leave it.

and that goes for anything i have ever said on this blog.
i am not your boss.

🙂

OK… back in april when i ran the half marathon… it was really great.
i mean yes i got super sick right afterrds, spending a lot of time in the bathroom.
BUT it was still an truly awesome experience!
i felt so empowered that i really did that.
i really finished!
but then i saw all the pictures & i couldn’t get over that the person i saw in the photos did not match how i felt.
it really bugged me.
i trained and trained for that dang half marathon and i gained weight!
it was not muscle.
don’t give me the old “muscle weighs more than fat” response.
i know that statement is true but this wasn’t case here.

i was eating whatever the heck i wanted…. and running.
so it wasn’t doing anything as far as getting lighter.

and that sucks!
because that was really hard training for that.

i didn’t feel strong physically.
and i felt unable to make any good food choices…. just so stuck in my habits.

then i saw how Rachel was working so hard on her health.
WOW!! i was inspired.
i was following along and wondering what was she doing that was working so well.
#1 she was eating VERY well  and #2 she was working with her brother Jonathon who is a personal trainer.

so i emailed him.
🙂
and we have worked together all summer via email.

he has told me what kinds of foods i should be eating and how often and how much, etc.
and then how to workout.
and guess what?
it has been working!!
i have lost 10 pounds since May.
it’s not a huge amount but it’s not nothin’ either… it’s a clothing size for sure.

i have really enjoyed the accountability of having the emails with him and discussing what to change.
i needed that to keep going.
he has been a great help to me!  Super encouraging.  Easy to talk with.
but there is no secret magic thing in what he told me.
you already KNOW what he told me…. EAT RIGHT and EXERCISE.
but seriously i had no idea what to eat before.
i just ate anything.

bottom line:  there is no magic… you have to decide if you want it or not.

then when you decide you do want that healthier body then YOU do the work.
and it is HARD!
no one else can do it for you.
you are the only one.

Rachel said something that stuck with me all summer.
she said that getting healthy & staying healthy had become a “Non-Negotiable” to her now.
things that are important to us will be non-negotiables.
if we want a strong marriage we have to fight hard for it.
if we want to have kids that aren’t complete brats… we have to do the hard work of parenting well.

anything worth keeping requires HARD work.
so getting healthy…. is NON-NEGOTIABLE.

God gives us one body.
and i want to take care of mine that best i can.

believe me… i fail often.
i eat the cupcake (and then a few more later)
but i am doing that much much less than i used to.
i am still fighting to knock out that voice calling me to sweets practically all the time.
i feel a slave to sugar some days.

(this is the longest post ever)

SO… i have been working at making the healthy choices all day long.

the first thing to change was to be drinking a ton of water.
A GALLON of water every day.
not kidding.

photo-23

that is a lot of water!
i have stuck with that all summer long.
at least 5 of those big giant water cups a day.

so that is my BiGGEST tip for you this week.

drink water… a LOT of water.
there is no room for soda and pop if you have to drink a gallon of water a day.

i thought that since i didn’t know how to eat prepare healthy foods… maybe some of you don’t either?

so as often as i can i am going to share a new recipe i find and try.
my favorite snacks & drinks too.

this is my first snack tip…

photo-25

of course this isn’t practical to buy all the time. ($$ it’s cheaper than a fast food meal though!)
but i am a busy lady and a somewhat poor planner at times.
so this snack tray of veggies at my Dillon’s stores is a great way to eat my veggies without having planned ahead.
and a fat free dressing would be preferred but it’s not an option so i just don’t eat much of the dip.
just a little.
but hey…. before this health kick… i had never bought a veggie tray unless i was having a party.

and now i eat a whole veggie tray for a snack!
(and it fits exactly in the console of my Suburban so obviously it was meant to be)

and last tip for the week…
get moving.
ANYTHING is better than nothing.
go for a walk.  or a jog.  or do both.
go for a bike ride.
run up and down your stairs.
alone or with friends… or your kids.
don’t be so hard on yourself.
it is O K to not run fast…. it is O K to take your time…. but just get out there.
who cares who sees you!  Go GO Go!
photo-24

and if you can….

listen to a good sermon while you are out moving around.

today i listened to North Point Ministries message called Follow: Fearless.  (#19)
i thought it was great.
i was crying… God is so cool.  He has such awesome plans for us.  He knows everything about us.
it was such a great run because of what i was listening to!

i am going to try to challenge myself to find great sermons to share with you often!
(feel free to share great speakers in the comments)

SO…. sorry that took so long.
see why i haven’t written it out?
i really don’t feel qualified to be giving health advice…. but we all have to start somewhere.

taking care of ourselves is a NON-NEGOTIABLE.

“God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body.”
1 Corinthians 6:20 (The Message)

what do you think?
what do you struggle with the most?
what do you want to change?

Rene - Thanks for sharing…I know I just need to make the commitment, but so worried I won’t stick with it. Love the idea of listening to sermons while exercising! Pastor Zach Terry in Huntsville has some great podcasts…my sister attends his church & recommended him to me.

Laura - You look great! I’d love to hear more about the food you are preparing for you and your family and how you control any cravings you might have.

Breeanna - I think God’s timing is perfect in the fact that I read this post today. I’ve struggled with weight since high school and now that I’m getting older, I feel like I have wasted so much time being a slave to sugar like you said. I crave it and it makes me feel good. It makes me believe that by eating it, I will be happier. It really is evil. I’ve started “getting healthy” many times, but ended up giving up. A few weeks ago I decided to start again because I have to change, there’s no option. I would love to listen to a sermon while working out, I never thought about doing that before. Thanks for being so open and inspiring. You look great!

Melissa - Thanks for sharing! I struggle everyday with my (over) eating. I need to make it a non negotiable. I quit smoking in feb after smoking for 25 years and i have gained a ton of weight. I made myself a promise that I would get healthy but I keep breaking it.

Jamie - Good work!! I enjoy Greg Boyd at Woodland Hills http://whchurch.org/sermons-media/sermons. He doesn’t mince words and at one point lost a large portion of his church attendance b/c he “offended”, so be advised for potential controversy or huge challenges :). He always had a way of keeping me engaged and challenged. Also, my pastor at Redemption Hill, Alex, is good at making the Word real and applicable. http://www.redemptionhillup.org/sermons-series/. But, I have a hard time listening while I do anything else because I always want to take notes. How do you handle that??

Jen - Coming back with one more question: what’s the case you use for running with your iphone? Do you have an iphone 5? Do you like the case? Thanks!

Here we go..again | - […] was on Meg’s blog this week, reading about her journey to better health. And I was inspired to get back to it.  I […]

Amy M - “i am still fighting to knock out that voice calling me to sweets practically all the time.
i feel a slave to sugar some days.”

I feel exactly the same way. Good to know I’m not alone. Thanks for the post. I’m trying to make slow, gradual changes into healthier habits and making my health non-negotiable too. Its hard, but to quote one of my favorite movies…’the HARD is what makes it GREAT.’

Kari - Last weekend my mom introduced me to cherry tomatoes, cut in half, salted with a little Italian dressing drizzled all over. My life will never be the same now. You’re welcome.

Libby - LOVE this post! I hope you post more like it! I miss Rachel:( I lost 90lbs in 2012, doing WW and started moving…I ran a full marathon in Feb! I have to make smart choices everyday! It’s never going to be easy for me…but I do it, one day at a time, with lots of prayer!

Larissa - Thanks so much for posting this. I have been waiting on this post since you mentioned it would be coming.
I started a pretty radical diet a month ago under doctor supervision. It’s pretty much protein shakes and then one real meal a day. I have a lot to lose and try to tell myself that this is just for a season and then I can go into a more balanced, healthy eating plan.
I am not a runner, but I have been walking and trying to do some strength training.
You look great and congrats for your accomplishments so far!

liz - thanks for the encouragement! i’m glad you took the time to post this!

Jill R. - Thank you thank you thank you for sharing! This is exactly what I needed to read on this exact day! More please!

April R - Thank you for the inspiration 🙂 healthy soul and healthy body

I listen to North Point too 🙂 most recently we listened to their series “You’ll Be Glad You Did” and “New Rules for Dating.” One of my favorites is their series on Christianity.
Paul Washer preaching from Heart Cry Ministry is intense. Francis Chan has some great sermons too.

tara - love how hard you’re working…
i’m working hard over here, too.

you’re right…it’s not rocket science…
it’s eating right and exercising. period.

i’m a slave to sweets, too, but coming off of them has helped me so much!
i feel SO MUCH BETTER.

proud of you!

Also, you know my hubby is on staff with a strategic partner of north point, right?
i love that series that you mentioned!!
i cry in every sermon….
grateful!

Allison - I went running after reading this, thanks for the extra push!

Anna Marie - Meg, I actually like that you aren’t an expert on the topic. It gives me hope and you say it all from a point of view that is so similar to mine. Please, PLEASE keep sharing your tips. I am at a point in my life (I turn 30 in November) where I am ready to make some huge changes in the health department. I am overweight and I never exercise. I have had a treadmill for almost 9 months now and have only used it once. Ridiculous! I am done with excuses and I need change. Thank you for making the changes seem simple by giving easy tips. Water, veggies and exercise…YES…got it. Thank you!

I look forward to more tips.

Necole@seriouslysassymama - I struggle with what I eat just like anyone else. I love carbs. My kids are all in school starting last week, so I am home by myself and only have to cook for me. That has made it soooooo much easier. I am a lite eater, so sometimes I will just have two eggs toast and some carrots, and that will be my meal till dinner. I know you should eat three meals, but I am not a three meal person. I just found some great bars that are like a meal, so I eat those also. I need to eat like I did before kids. I can just consume so much more food now, and always ate because I was bored. Not anymore. I keep myself busy, and exercise 3-4 times a week. I want to be a good example to my three daughters.

Wendi - Thank you SO much for sharing!! This is a struggle for me too, many similarities. I love the way you share in such a real way. I can’t wait to hear more specifics on what you eat, what your workouts are, and if you cook separate meals for your family. When do u treat yourself? Also, I have a 3 year old who looks like she could be Annie’s sister 🙂

Katie - I have commented and maybe even emailed you before about my desire to call myself a runner. I don’t think I will ever feel like I am one of those “people who run”…mainly because I jog at a ridiculously slow pace and feel like I am going to die the entire time…but this post was just the kick in the pants that I needed. I have been feeling EXACTLY as you described, but putting off doing anything. The stupid thing is, I do this ever 6 months. Starting in January through May I lost about 7 lbs and was up to running 3 consecutive miles…and then work gets busy, and I quit and gain the weight back. So this week I am back at it. It is hard, and I get hungry…and did I mention that I work at a bakery!? Hello, hard! But I am determined, and mostly I just wanted to say “Thank you!” for this post. I needed to hear this. I needed it to be from a real person and not from some 80 lb, blonde six pack that eats nothing but flax seed and tomatoes. I love that this post cake right after the dessert post. Thank you for being a real, inspiring person. Thank you…and good luck!

Jenn - I had struggled with being overweight, most of my life. I love saying “had.” I don’t struggle anymore because I decided that I wanted to be healthy and it was non-negotiable. You are so right, once you decide that…its a lot easier. I had to work hard to break old habits, but once they were broken and I changed the way I looked at food I was good to go. I have been able to keep the weight off for 3+ years. You are right on, water, water, water. We are usually thirsty, not hungry. And ya gotta move! Great post! You are doing fab! Way to go on loosing 10 lbs…AMAZING!

katie jones - Thank you for sharing! Please continue!Been running/weights/tabata/videos ect…..but gotta get the eating under control. I get tired of salad and chicken breast! So please share all the workout/food tips/mind over matter tips/sermons you have. I think we are all in this together and need each other!!!

Lynette - Thanks so much for this post! I just wanted to let you know of a great preacher I am listening to on my way in to work – I listen to him on Bott Radio Network, but there are podcasts online – his name is Adrian Rogers. I have been listening to him for almost a year, and I can tell you he has changed my life! I actually look forward to driving in to work now.

Destiny - Hey Meg,
Thank you for posting about this. It’s always such a struggle for me and I’m so encouraged by the tesimony of others who deal with the same issues. I think you would love this book by Lysa Terkeurst called Made to Crave. It’s about craving God more than food. 🙂

cassie - allistair begg preaches in cleveland. all of his sermons are excellent … the scottish accent doesn’t hurt either.
http://www.truthforlife.org/

Cassandra - Love love love this!!! thank you for the reminder of all the things i know to be true. I just had baby #2 three months ago & am just struggling w/ getting active & the eating is so-so. so thank you for this & reminding me my body is God’s!!

happygirl - It isn’t magic. It’s hard work. Expend more calories than you consume. No magic. Thanks for sharing you hope and experience.

Beth - Meg, a great app to download for sermons is our church here in the DFW area called The Village Church with Matt Chandler. Here is a short link to one of my favorite clips from years ago: http://youtu.be/VuGYh6QDNYY
I cry almost every Sunday! 🙂

Katie G - These teachings are great-http://www.xenos.org/ministry/care-group. Very helpful for parenting!

Mary Margaret - Thank you for sharing this. I inspired by your commitment to get healthy and want to begin to get healthy too. I just turned 40 on Saturday and now is the time. Love your blog and being inspired by all that is here. Way to go Meg!

Tere - What do I think? I think you are amazing. And I think I want those chocolate chip oreo bars that I can see below this comment box, as I type.
I struggle with grazing. All.day.long. Then I think, I haven’t eaten today. And honestly, your sentence “but then i saw all the pictures & i couldn’t get over that the person i saw in the photos did not match how i felt.” Hit me hard. real hard. tears hard. Because, I am shocked every time I see myself in the mirror. I still see myself as thin (well, at least smaller) and younger. But the reality…well, you’ve seen me, you know.
I want to change….my health, my endurance and the longevity of my life. I read your post, and Rachel’s too, and cried. I’m crying now.
Today’s a new day. Thanks for your continued inspiration. Thanks for sharing (and keep it up). Thanks, friend, I needed this. xoxo tere

Tracy Fisher - OMGoodness…. Meg… you hit me over the head! Loved the post. Not too long. Totally real. So funny because I lost 15 pounds over the summer on Omni drops (no lectures please… it’s a fad that all the girls in my area are doing). But the funny thing is I don’t feel like I have lost anything now. I thought I’d be happier and skinnier. Now I’m just grumpier that I have more to lose…haha. But I do feel so much better and am starting another round in October with some friends for another 15 lbs. This is a journey. It’s really not about weight. I love how you said it is about health. Yes, my family deserves US moms… and our healthier attitudes. Bless you for sharing. You go girl!!!! Proud of you :). -Tracy

paige - girl. i did the same thing. ran two 1/2’s in 2 years & for crying out loud, i gained weight. like what?
so i realized that at age 47 ( 46 at the time) that it was not ever going to be easy & i really wanted to feel good about myself. SO i got back into mixing it up with cardio. 3-4 times a week i drive my tail 20 minutes GAG each way, to the gym. i am well aware each time i make that commute ( to a little hole in the wall cheap womens gym) how much quicker & easier it would be for me to go for a quick run. appears that my body plateaud with running. i’ve lost 22 pounds since january by doing this AND eating wiser breakfast & lunch. and whatever everyone else is eating for dinner.
hoping to maintain this plan. and yes, trying to drink more water. apparently i need to crank that up!

Jenn - Good for you Meg – you are taking control of your health and that is AWESOME! Keep on keepin’ on :). I can’t believe you drink a gallon a day holy moly – I tried that for a week and it was so hard! I am impressed.

cindy - Thank you for the encouraging post….please take the time to write more on this. It really helps!

stacie bowers - Thanks a whole bunch, Meg!!

You inspire me.

I started my own little “get moving” plan as soon as the big 3 started school a couple weeks ago, but I continue to struggle with food.

I’ve been searching for a good audiobook to start to get me out and moving when I don’t have a friend to meet me. Bloom by Kelle Hampton maybe. I don’t know yet!

I listen to youtubes sometimes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXSjc-pbXk4 this one is awesome!!! Brene Brown’s work is so cool.

Please keep sharing about this stuff. I really appreciate inspiration. I wish I could just go for a run with you.

I’m so sad I’m not going to the Blue Lily reunion to talk to you till the wee hours of the night again. You’re so so awesome!!

Thanks with love, Stacie

Talysa - Meg, could you tell more details about what you are eating? Such as foods you cut out, foods you added, are you “low carb” or “paleo” etc.?

Heather - Great post, it is definitely a motivator and inspiring for others who are hesitant to get on track with taking care of their bodies! Can’t wait to “hear” more on this subject! Two great podcasts I would recommend are: Bay Community Church (bay community.com) and Loxley Church of God. 🙂

Danielle - Thanks. I needed to hear this again. I do not make a lot of healthy snack choices. Wish I had read this before I had those fish sticks an curly fries for lunch… 🙂

Karen - Thank you so much for sharing. In January 2012 I finally made the decision to start losing weight. I was 360lbs, 5’8″ and was totally miserable. I started using the myfitnesspal app on my phone and logged everything that went into my mouth.I walked or rode by stationary bike 4-5 times a week. By November I was down 65lbs. Since then I have completely stopped doing anything. I did play softball with my church this spring so that was my excuse not to walk. Thankfully I have not gained but 5lbs back but I can tell the difference in how I feel. I have got to get motivated again and get back on track. I still would love to lose another 80lbs. Thank you so much for the motivation!

Sara - LOVE your blog and you look great! Check out Mark Driscoll from Mars Hill Church. He is awesome and has many great sermon series to listen to online! There is a great nutritional center in our area (Mpls/St. Paul) that hosts a radio show. You can listen to any of their previous radio shows via podcast. They have great topics and talk a lot about eating real food to lose weight and heal our bodies! http://www.weightandwellness.com/

Sarah L - Thank-you so much for this post! I have read your blog for awhile but have never commented until today. I think that God led me to read this late last night as I was laying in bed as I have been struggling with feeling tired, lethargic and just overall blah. Your post has given me a kick-start to try to begin some life-style changes.

Thank-you for sharing your story and what has worked for you! I would love to have you write more suggestions or tips that you find along the way, as well as any work-out suggestions….esp. anything that can be done at home.

melissa rice - Thank you for this. i don’t like fad diets or something that is “revolutionary” at the time ie…. south beach atkins hcg grapefruit diet not eating after 7 or 3 or noon!!! i totally agree with your trainer eat less move more and eat what is good and pure whenever you can! i think it is alllll about moderation in food and moving everyday! it is a lifestyle but you can have your cake and eat it too. just a small piece and then go for a walk or jump on the tramp with your kids. You are REAL meg and thats what everyone wants.

Tanya - I’ve been reading forever and you’re great Meg 🙂
I’ve always thought so!

Library Momma - My husband and I started following Dr. Fuhrman’s Eat to Live guidelines and we both have lost substantial weight in a very short period of time. It is not a diet, it is a lifestyle change and waking up to what you really are doing. Thanks for sharing all your thoughts I totally agree with the water, drink, drink, drink! I have to make a request personally from your blog, the running advertisement at the bottom many times expands making it tricky to move on the page or read anything. It can be extremely distracting from the great content. I just thought I would share, maybe it is not an issue for other readers.

Cat - Thanks for sharing – it is quite a vulnerable thing to do, isn’t it? I started running a couple of years ago and have been surprised at how much I enjoy it and it has really helped me get over hang-ups from my school days and the idea that I am just “not one of those people who exercise”. For me, that is just not an option as I approach 40 in a world desperate to sell me fat, salt and sugar in ever-more tempting combinations and force me off my feet and into my car. The amazing thing, in fact, is that we are not all obese!! Food is an idol for me – cooking it, eating it, reading about it, watching shows about it – and like any other idol, I need help from God to put it in its proper place. This is a work in progress, needless to say. There is not much out there on this topic this but I did find this sermon by Crystal Munson at Mars Hill Church which I found very illuminating http://marshill.com/2010/09/21/why-gluttony-is-a-sin/ I recommend any woman who eats and has a body (haha!) to give it a listen. It will challenge and encourage and shines a spotlight on the lies the world tells us about food and our bodies. Now that all 3 kids are back to school/preschool this week, I am getting back out there after a few weeks off. I, too, have sought the advice of a PT just to show me how I can improve my fitness and get the most out of my runs with out having to go for hours and hours, 7 days a week; exercise – like food – is a good slave but a poor master!

Mhairi - Hi Meg! I’ve read your blog for a long time, but I thought today’s post really prompted me to leave you a comment. YOU are the reason I got off my butt this year and decided to run. I have never run- ever. And I ran my very first race a 5k this June. Here’s a little side-blog I wrote about getting ready for this race.
http://runmidwife.blogspot.ca/

So, you’ve already got one person behind you (literally- I can’t run a half marathon yet!) and it’s awesome! 🙂 xo

Thanks for being an inspiration!

karen - Wow, this is so timely for me and thank you for sharing. I have absolutely no discipline in my diet and exercise, and that overlaps in sooo many other area! I will be following along and thank you for the encouragement!

p.s. I love your pictures also. 🙂

Lee Ann - Thank you sooo much for sharing this! September is my month! 🙂 I have been working out SO hard. I have gained SO MUCH muscle this year. And….I’ve eaten like crap and gained fat as well. I KNOW it’s my diet, I just haven’t been willing to do anything about it. But now! NOW is the time!

Sara Torbett - Thank-you for boldly sharing this!! I am figuring out, for the first time in my life, what healthy looks/sounds like for me. How I need to make it a daily priority. I’ve been trying to run/walk during my little girls nap times and I admit-it is extremely hard to be disciplined about it when that’s a tiny break I have all day. But I always feel awesome afterwards! We are so weight obsessed in our culture…it is so, so refreshing to hear you talk about HEALTH. Thank-you for inspiring Meg! (and I need to drink more water tomorrow!)

Stephanie - One of the best books I’ve read on nutrition is ‘Deep Nutrition’ by Dr. Shanahan. Just in case you were interested. It’s pretty fascinating.

Carol - Listen to Perry Noble at newspring church! He was some must listen to messages! You won’t regret it!

Amber Willis - Thank you thank you thank you!!!! This is just what I needed at this time. I just signed up for a 90 day challenge to help get this baby weight off (ummm she just turned one) Wow it was so much easier with baby #1. Anyway, I have been praying for God to help give me strength and encouragement. This is what I needed right now 🙂

Kendra - Your post is totally me! I ran my first half in the May Prairie Fire. I had lost weight before thr marathon and people kept asking me how much while I trained. I hadn’t lot any. None. Because I was eating whatever I wanted. And now, I’m training for the full in October and I’ve actually gained some weight. I’m with you! I only get one body, I need to treat it with better food. (;

Great post.

Fay - This was great Meg. Thank you!

Brenna Marie - Thank you for this post. Eat right and move more! I think we have all been inundated with dietary information since the 1980’s no fat slogans that eating has become either good or bad. I like the common-sense approach that you have taken – you have taken out the all or nothing factor that has gotten me into trouble for years! Thanks Meg for letting us share in your journey!

I really like listening to Pastor Steven Furtick at elevationchurch.org

Brenna

Christine Ishmael - I’m laughing because as soon as you finish your post on eating healthy/exercise the post below is “cravings” which I have, all the time, which I need to get over and get in shape, thanks for the kick in the pants/reminder kind of post! 🙂

Kathleen - Been following your blog for a couple of years and love it, but have never commented. Felt led to comment today – thanks for this post! I think it is what I needed – I have three littles and want to do a better job of eating healthy and exercising. So please keep your tips coming! I love the idea that taking care of our bodies is non-negotiable…that is awesome! Inspires me to get moving and not eat any more of the cookies I just made. 🙂

Felicity - Meg I just wanted to say how timely this post was. I have been inspired by your running story previously and have signed up to do my first race ever, a half marathon. In Febuary. Mostly I feel like I’ve made a ridiculous choice and what the heck was I thinking I like chocolate and I like to sit on the couch and who cares if my tummy is really wobbly I’ve had 2 babies in the last 2.5 years. And then I think that really, I want to live freely, and I want to be gentle and kind with my body, and I want my whole being to be submitted to The Lord. So I run, and sweat and then walk a bit, and then run a bit more. I’m pretty tired, but that could just be the baby who won’t sleep 😉 and I know that I shouldn’t put sugar all over my cereal and eat chocolate for lunch, and I know I need to change that too.
So talk as much as you can about exercise and being healthy, because I need all the help I can get! Do you want to be my personal trainer? You can email me and tell me that. I’m doing a good job.

Felicity x

Kirsten J - Yep, you obviously struck a chord here. I saw your Tweet yesterday and was inspired to get moving. I seem to do better with a clean slate/get moving change when the kids get back to school. Mine starts Wednesday, but I’m liking this September 1st thing….
thanks!

Alicia @ La Famille - Thank you for this post. Honestly, I just feel gross about myself right now. I AM four months post pardum and I know it takes time to lose that baby weight, but I think its just that I WANT so bad to work out and sweat and there’s just not time! I’m just so tired all the time. In july my hubby and I did a big food overhaul and that has helped a lot I’ve lost a ton of inches and about fifteen pounds since july 1st, but eating that well is hard too. I am just frustrated. I feel like other people seem to lose it so fast and I’m just scared I’ll be stuck here at this weight. I just realized this is a really personal comment…more like an email. Hmmmm…must be feeling share-y today. Anyway, GREAT JOB on your venture! Keep it up! I find for eating healthy, the only way I can do it is to plan. Keep us posted on your results! Also, what’s your health goals?

missy - Your post came on the day my husband & I have recommitted to our health. Just what I needed this morning. Had I read it two days ago it wouldn’t have affected me the way it did today. I’m off to fill my water bottle.

Debbie - Thank you! Please keep posting on this, and specifics! You are awesome!

renee - amen!! you inspired me.

Jen - One quick question: clicked through to Rachel’s blog! Love her story and would love to follow her on IG but can’t seem to find her at IAMRACHELREEVES. Can you help? What am I doing wrong? HAHA

Couldn’t manage to leave a comment on her blog either! Can you say “Tech challenged?” 🙂 Thanks!

Jen - Perfect post, Meg! You know, I noticed in your latest Craft Weekend group photo that you looked thinner. Good for you for doing this for YOU, and consequently for your family, too. I never feel guilty about a workout because I am setting a positive example for my girls and I want to be active with my family for a LONG time. Eating healthier had a ripple effect on the fam, too.

This healthy thing is 30% exercise and 70% diet. I am a group exercise instructor and had the exercise thing down, but recently have been focusing on a better diet. I have seen positive changes. This 36-year-old wants to be an even healthier 40-year-old. Preach on, sista and keep going!

Jen - I’m so glad you shared! I have noticed that you are thinner and wondered what you are doing! I have been through much the same journey-I’ve lost 50 pounds since January (doing Take Shape for Life) but I’ve slacked off a bit since I reached my goal so this is a great incentive for me. I appreciate you being vulnerable and honest!

Great sermons: Mark Driscoll, Mars HIll Church in Seattle. His Peasant Princess series on Song of Solomon is PHE. NOM. E. NAL. Now, he takes some getting used to-he swears occasionally and he’s a little crass at times but if you can get past that, I believe God is really using him. (I know he’s controversial and I’m not here to debate that! So please don’t anyone jump all over me!) 🙂

Happy exercising! You are inspiring! 🙂

Jen

Kristin S - And, just downloaded that message. Can’t wait to listen. On a run/walk! After 16 months of injury, I’m slowly getting back in.

Kristin S - Meg, thank you for being so vulnerable. I know that was big ol step of faith and your honesty flowed through it all.

It is hard.

You didn’t even have to say anything. I never thought you looked overweight. Ever. But in recent posts, I can tell that you had lost some weight and the long hair is sassy too!

For me from age 33-37, I worked out all the time and lost no weight. It was the food. I know it was. So, I started running and started eating smaller portions and salads for dinner. Slowly, slowly 50 lbs came off. And I felt better.

It has to be a personal choice and seeing a picture of myself did it for me too. Sigh.

Press on!

Anne - Hello Meg
You spoke to my heart today! Thank you for the tip about listening to sermons… I find it really humbles you and gives you determination at the same time. Another tip I find that works is to stay off the recipe section of pinterest HA HA:)
God truly knows what I need and today I needed you to speak to me. Godspeed to both of us on our journey! Anne

Midwest Magnolia - Melissa Lewis - It’s so funny that you shared this in the way you did! Last year I started doing the C25K training (and I am so not a runner) all b/c of a post you did similar to this about feeling the need to be healthy. That post compelled me!
So I did it along with another friend and we ran a 5K. I have never felt better physically…until about 8 months ago when we moved… again! And I can count on both hands the number of times I’ve ran. I’m back to feeling, well, yucky. I feel the extra inch that’s been added back to my back side and my side sides.
So again Megan, your post has compelled me. It’s hard to love God with ALL your heart, mind, soul and strength when you ain’t feelin’ too strong. It all works together. Thanks for sharing even though you didn’t feel qualified:)
~Melissa

Elaine - Thank you for being brave and sharing.
Thank you for motivating me to believe I can make the changes I need. It isn’t easy, but it will be worth it!
Have a wonderful day….

Jonathan - Meg-

You should be VERY proud. Not just in the numbers. Remember- a scale means nothing in comparison to a happy life and slimmer pant size.

Looking forward to hearing more from you. KEEP ROCKING! YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!

Michelle - In the 7 study Jen Hatmaker connects NT passages about our body being a temple to the OT instructions for building/caring for the temple and then makes a statement along the lines ‘if he cared that much about the old temple … How much does he care about the care of your body?’ It was a huge moment for me and pushed me to call a spade a spade and confess gluttony in my life and start addressing food and exercise. I have also lost about 10 lbs so far and it feels great! I am reading Made To Crave and it has been really great- very encouraging and convicting. Wishing you well in this Meg!

Heather S. - Sister – I am with ya! You DID look great in those Craft Weekend posts, so I knew you were up to something! I am currently int he role of *supporter* for a friend who is working hard to get in shape. She, too, is a runner and all that running was NOT adding up to weight loss at all. So, we took it up a notch. We joined a gym together. We go to a 6:00 am class three days a week (we force each other out of bed at 5:15 to make it on time) and two other days we run on our own. Her journey is making me work harder on my health. I would be considered to be in perfectly *fine* shape – in that wonderful area of *normal.* The problem is, I don’t want to just be normal. I want to be strong and lean and this summer I have only lost 4 pounds, but I have seriously toned up and it is a beautiful thing to see one’s legs in shorts or a skirt and not cringe, KWIM? So – you keep going and you keep encouraging us! Great job, Meg!!!!

btsoi - I was nodding in agreement through your entire post. I finally got to the point where I decided to do something about this body I was not happy with so I started doing yoga and some walking/jogging. It’s disappointing when you look in the mirror and it doesn’t match how you feel. But I’m pushing on, and I’m trying to eat healthier, with smaller portions (I’m so used to “finishing my plate” – aka eating until I’m full and then some). I’d love to hear more about your journey! And listening to sermons while running? What an awesome idea!

jamie - thank you so much for this post! i am so proud of you! this summer i have found that buying already prepared fruits and veggies is the way to go for me! if the fruits and veggies are already cut up i will gobble them. my new obsession is orange cherry tomatoes from our local farmer’s market! i went yesterday and they didn’t have any {boo}. my daughter goes to an amazing church and i listen to the podcasts. i’ve cried during each and every one because my heart is so overwhelmed with truth.
sometimes i lay in bed at night and listen to several in a row and before i know it what felt like 15 minutes was actually three hours!

paradoxchurch.com/messages/

ktg - Post baby weight. Not to give excuses but before kids I had a flat stomach and trim everything.
2 kids in 2 years…

For four years I was not getting enough sleep, then needing the energy for a 13 hour day entertaining children alone. Food was the fuel I needed to stay awake and take care of everyone.I felt so low energy all the time!

I lost 10 pounds with my fitness pal for food checks and running/ballet for exercise. An observation , as soon as I went on vacation where a fridge was stocked with sodas I got back into the habit and gained 5 pounds in a week! Sugar is what I struggle with the most. I want to add more natural foods.

Val - Hey Meg, love your blog, love what you have to say, LOVE Craft Weekend! but alas, as I live in Australia I can’t see myself attending anytime soon. But seeing your pictures makes me feel like I’m there (almost), so thank you!

I heard a quote a few months ago, “you can’t out exercise a bad diet,” how true! I’ve been on a daily walking regime (30-45 mins p/day) and did NOT lose an ounce!!! You’re right, it is hard word and takes dedication. I so want to lose 10kgs to feel better in my clothes!!!

Keep writing Meg, you inspire me – thanks!

PS – love the tip about the sermons,

Southern Gal - I had noticed you looked slimmer in the Craft Weekend photos. Good for you! I needed to read this. I turned 50 this summer, am heavier than I’ve ever been and I started running two years ago!!! I know it’s diet (and some issues with steroids I took this summer for an arm injury), but it’s been so hard. I have been drinking lots of water – not quite a gallon. Now I’m just tired of feeling like a blob. After years of cooking from habit I need someone to tell me what to cook and how, just like you. Thanks again for posting this.

Robyn - Check out Craig Groeshell at Lifechurch.tv. The church is based in Oklahoma and is fabulous! Podcasts are available for free on iTunes.

The Orchard - Thank you for that post. I am a runner and have been for 25 years, (I turn 40 in a few months) but I have been injured a lot this past year and my running has really slowed. I am not as fast as I used to be and I feel sluggish when I go out, so now I hardly go out. It is so not like me! On top of that, I eat what I want, but it is not always healthy, and now that I am not running as much, it is starting to catch-up with me and it doesn’t feel good physically or emotionally! And, I don’t drink water. Like hardly ever, even when I get back from a run!

This post is the reminder I need! Thanks for taking the time to write it out and share your experiences.

My first goal will be to start drinking more water. Second goal, get back out there and run. As you said, it doesn’t matter how fast. Just getting out there is better than nothing!

Good luck with the rest of your journey and please do keep sharing!

<3

Jennifer - This post is so timely for me – thank you! Just this morn I was writing my best friend in WI (I live in Australia) and telling her how I currently have no commitment, no motivation and no plan; but I hate how I look and feel. The perspective that my health is a non-negotiable, and more importantly the fact that Gos gave me one body and I have an obligation to take of it, are fantastic. Can’t wait to see the recipes and read more posts. Keep up the awesome work!

Alisa Muir - I am finally at the point where my health is a non negotiable.
So please please please

Share more of these kinda of posts.

it is such an inspiration.

I just had surgery 12 days ago and starting this week I am back working out. Hopefully back to using that unused gym membership.
Back on myfitnesspal.

I need to put this on my priority list.
Just like I do my kids health.

xoxo thanks for sharing.

Kelley - Thanks for the encouragement! I needed the reminder of “my health is non-negotiable.”
Great speaker- Robert jeffress, his podcast is called “pathway to victory”- I learn a lot from him
What do I want to change- I am 7 months post baby- and although the weight is technically gone, the body is NOT the same. I am learning this mom thing- but I still want to be healthy and be strong. Need to find time to workout with baby. Want to get back to running, but afraid of compromising my milk supply (TMI?) so not sure where that all puts me.
