waffle and me bored in the car.

the ride home from my parents seemed extra long.

it could be the sheer exhaustion felt by all of us from the day before spent at WORLDS OF FUN.
in the 105 degree heat.
i was having flashbacks of africa….all the walking around….sweating everywhere….in flip flops.

it could be that our AC is almost dead in our (stupid dumb) truck so it had to be BLASTING.
i don't like to listen to that for very long.

it could be that we had to stop at 2 redboxes because our dvd was scratched at the1st one.
and when we are not driving fast (or waiting at a red box) the AC doesn't work at all.

it could be the illusion of slow driving because of highway construction on our "faster" route.
bleck.

but whatever it was….waffle and i were bored.
so i took pictures of him.
because he was two inches from my face panting his dog breath all over me.

i think he likes attention.

this one is my favorite.

i took all of these pictures by holding out my arm in front of me and waffle.

i gave him a flea bath tonight.
he was very unhappy with me.

Erwin Calverley - Looks like both you guys had a lot of fun in the car, huh? Waffle is a very cute dog. He’s like my beagle Lou. He loves to keep me company in my long road trips.

Nicole - My dog Fifi is also kind of dramatic when I take photos of her. And I kind of love her for that! <3 Going on a road trip with your family and your pets is such a great thing. Just always pay attention to your dog so he won't get stressed out while you're on the road.

Oliver Ganns - Obviously, you love your dog so much! Look at his pictures; they are all SUPER CLOSE-UP! =D It’s nice when you have a car. You can go wherever you want and have some quality bonding time with your family, and with your pets!

Maesie - I think that the second one from the top, he is making an Annie face.

Nike Air Max 2009 - I have to share your sentiments about sewing. I really want to
be able to sew, but so far the only things that come out good
are things that are square, ie: pillows, or quilts or linings
for purses. I tried a top…yeah not so much.

Melanie - My dog need a bath too:) Cute photos.

Deb - I love Waffle and it made me want to touch him thur the montior! 🙂

Meredith - Poor Waffle. He can’t help it if he’s ridiculously good looking.

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - Ok – you made me spit at my monitor – “don’t make me sing” – Hi.larious.

julia - when you’re stopped in your car put your left foot on the brake (or put the car in neutral) and give it some gas. it helps.

MommaH - Hilarious. I love your dog, and I’ve never met him in real. I would love to have a Waffle of my own. But the cat would no doubt protest. She doesn’t even like other people here!

Lia - He is one of my fav dog. When i convince my fiance we have to get a dog as soon as we are married I am going to get one that looks like Waffle.

Rebecca - This one really cracked me up. I loved how you put the captions in there for each picture, especially the eye contact one. Our dog used to do that too. So funny! Thanks for the laughs.

Staci - I just love that dog 🙂 And your sweet family too of course 🙂

www.Kellyloves.wordpress.com - ohhhhhhh … I love Waffle!!!!! so freaking cute!
http://www.kellyloves.wordpress.com

Linda Johnson - Bless his precious heart, so glad you took him on the family outing, your family is all he has you know.
#1 Waffle fan
Linda~

Gemma - Hi Niki,
Thanks for the reply! Wow that sounds great..I wish they had that here in the UK.
Thanks again : )
Gemma x

heather - Blue Steel Waffle! Too funny!!!!!! Love it!

amy jupin - i swear i smell dog breath. yuck.
i can’t believe you posted about making rock pets/monsters. we are doing that this weekend!

Ruth - blue steel waffle!! brilliant. sorry about the dog breath, that’s pretty gross.

Liz Woodard - Okay, Waffle is a cutie, but 2 hours of his panting in your face??? yeck. that is why we have a portable dog kennel for the back of the minivan. Our dog (JT, black lab mix) loves to go for rides and hops right into the kennel when we open the back. Just thinking about how you endured his invasion of your space both there AND back gives me the heebie-jeebies! lol

Amanda - A Waffle post is just what I needed today 🙂 He is so cute!!! I think the only time I comment is when you post about Waffle. I read all the time and love your blog. Thank you 🙂

jaz - I love the nose shot!
Gee he looks like a happy and contented dog! Loves his family doesn’t he 🙂

Katie - I love Waffle. Your pictures of him make me smile. : )

Kelley - now I have tears from laughing over the Don’t Make Me Sing comment. that video clip was awesome and I love the reference being tied to a Waffle pic!

Christine Ishmael - It’s funny, cause after you read the “coming home” post…you scroll down just a bit and see your happy “going to grandma’s” post…what a difference a few days makes! Keep cool!

Kari - It could be your fan clutch on your AC. I had the exact thing happen and they replaced the fan clutch and now the AC works great!

Lynette - Blue steel…..hehehe! Great pictures!

Kit - I think I just smelled his dog breath…

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - I actually laughed out loud. The one that is so close that it’s blurry cracked me up. You bored to tears taking pics of your panting dog…tongue inches from your face….just too funny. Thanks for that…I needed to laugh:) Oh and the don’t make me sing! HA:) I want Waffle. He is just so stinkin’ cute.

betsy - “But they’re making me sing, so I have to!” 🙂 Thanks for the laugh this morning!
LOVING Waffle’s end-of-summer cut … I had to trim Minnie up a bit because it’s SO hot & was taking forever for her to cool back down when we came inside.
Minnie sits on my lap when I drive. Try that for doggie breath in the car! 😉

Courtney - Ok, I’ve been a silent follower for a while now. Why did I choose to make my 1st comment on a Waffle post? Because he’s damn cute & you made me laugh hysterically with the comments.
Keep doin’ what you’re doin’. Good stuff!

Tonya @ More Than Enough - OMG…the “don’t make me sing” comment totally made me snort! I think you need to now try for a “don’t make me dance” waffle shot! 😉

Morgan - You said Worlds of fun so you must go to Kansas City every once in awhile….if you do, have you heard of Good Ju JU? If you havn’t, you NEED to go. It is on the first weekend (fri, sat & sun) of every month. Check it out online. I live in Boston, but my sister lives in Kansas City, and I went this past weekend… and drooled the whole time! And, I thought of you and many other bloggers that I think would have a ball in there! So much fun, and would be so worth the trip to KC (even with the boring drive)! Good Ju Ju. Check it out!

linda - i am just so glad that we were lucky not to have the odor that you endured with the cutiepie in your face. my dog’s breath makes me GAG it is so foul!! i literally burst out laughing with your “don’t make me sing” comment. too funny!!! i so look forward to your posts!! thank you!!!

Karen Lehmann - oh the flea bath! I think one Boxer “Han Solo” who might live here, needs said “flea bath”! He’s spending night itching – And keeping me awake!

Laura Phelps - I love Waffle more than I love my husband.

Wendy - “Don’t make me sing”…. bahhhaahaa!! Too funny! Love Waffle! 🙂

joycee - The pack, it’s all about being with the pack! No need to know where you are going, you’re just included! Humans could learn from these simple pleasures that dogs have!

Cate O'Malley - haha, too funny, and too cute!

Jaime @ Mamarazzi - again?! is it weird to have a dog-crush on that cutie-pie?!
if you ever get tired of him…
send him to arizona… i’ll gladly take him.
very cute pics.

Kelly - I love the Waffle shots! I hope he was at your parents when you were at the amusement park. You may not think so now, but it was a great idea to take him with you! My mom won’t let me bring my dog when I visit. Can you believe that?

Kimberlee J. - Talia is going to LUV these pics of Waffle—a little less intimidating than the big guy himself. 🙂

Holly - ok the ac in our truck only works on high or low up front and I cant stand it when it is on high so I turn it up in the back and keeo it on low in the front. It usually cools off pretty quickly. Glad I am not the only one that gets annoyed by loud ac!

Niki - Gemma, redbox is a nifty invention! They are little movie kiosks that are all over the US (mainly in Walmarts, outside McDonalds, Wallgreens or gas stations). You rent movies using your credit card and you are charged $1.00 a day per movie (up to 25 days, after 25 days it is yours if you haven’t returned it). You can return it to any redbox location anywhere (so it is great while you are traveling).
Meg, you are a braver woman than I! I hate being hot. There is no way I would do amusement park asphalt when it is over 100 degrees! What a woman you are!

Gemma - BTW what is a redbox?

Gemma - So cute! My dog does the “trying not to make eye-contact” face too…weird.
Gemma x

my happy place

while my sister was visiting me we headed out to my happy place.
is it weird that my happy place is someone else's house?
hopefully not.

carolyn's house is just happy.
even waffle is happy there.

he got to swim.
he got to play with max.
he was SO HAPPY.

she likes sunscreen.
ha.

a fish bit me.
and i was done.
enough water for me.

i love it out there.
love love love.

**************************************************************************************************************************

pillow winner announced tonight.

or in the morning.

we'll see.

🙂

Miho - She is beautiful! I’ve been chiekcng every day to see if you’ve posted anything and this is so worth the wait. Jacob and Callie’s wedding is next weekend and we will be missing your special touch. Little Ms. June should have some beautiful pics during her life.

ymcmb hats - I really wish I hadn’t seen this as I really want one now!

Courtney Walsh - I laughed when you said the fish bit you and you were done in the water because the same thing happened to me when I was visiting my sister in Georgia! lol
I am not much of a fish person!

Carrie - So apparently your blog now falls under what my work considers a “social networking site” and it’s blocked… Just how do they expect me to get through my day?! 🙂

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - I thought your happy place was Pizza Hut:) Looks like so much fun.

Melanie - Looks like fun!

amy d - what??? waffle likes something better than ME??? lol! hopefully he wasn’t writing down directions or he may just take his own road trip to carolyn’s!

Jen - It’s so cool how your sister’s daughter looks exactly like her and Talby looks just like you!

Gemma - Fun in the sun…perfect!!
Gemma X

linda@LimeintheCoconut - Happy time indeed! Perfect summer stuff. Well except for the toad. I wouldn’t want to hold the toad. Nope.

mel - What a fun day! It is totally okay to have your happy place be someone else’s house! (Target is my happy place…ha!)

shelly @familyblt - When I was a kid, we had frogs in our pool. I like those little guys–kinda like toads! Looks like fun!

Erin Leigh - I wanna turn with the toad. so fun.

Traci - As long as you have a happy place Meg…that’s all that matters. Looks like a fun day…your sis hasn’t aged a year since the last time I can remember seeing her (at least 15 years ago)…maybe I should try more sunscreen:)

AshleyAnn - The frog pictures ruined it for me. Not a happy place at all…I hate frogs…just the sight of those pictures make me cringe.
Reminded me of when you used to have that frog picture on your blog banner. I had a difficult time reading your blog those days. Thanks for taking that down 🙂

Flower Patch Farmgirl - What a fun honor to have your home be someone else’s happy place. I’ll bet she loves it!

Lisa - Your daughter looks like your sister! I can see why that is your happy place. waffle is looking as fetching as usual.
What a fish bit you??? Weird.

sarah - If it’s weird, then I’m weird, cause my happy place if I were closer would be your house and Carolyn’s house 😉
LOVE the toad pictures.

Donna - I LOVE the frog pictures, esp the first one! And Waffle is the cutest!

betsy - Tons of fun!
Was Waffle in a doggy coma when you got home? Whenever my Minnie plays that hard, she’s so exhausted, she can hardly walk up the stairs to get to bed.

Jaime A. - Is it weird to admit that I think I have a dog-crush on Waffle?! He is just sooo darn cute. I just want to squeeze him!
Looks like it was a fun day!

Juli - Oh, now this is interesting. I’d say your house is my dream home. We live in a 1932 ‘charmer’ but it is a plain jane colonial. When I play with my house, I pretend it’s yours.
Soooo, if your happy place is someone else’s house, is it because you prefer her home over yours in some way location, etc…) or is it because of your friend, herself?

Micah - Are you kidding?!?! That peanut butter baby came back and won??? NO WAY!!! I can’t believe it! She did something serious to come back from that far behind. Bummer. Your picture was so awesome too. I’m bummed for you. Enjoy your happy place.

waffle the dirty dog.

IMG_2874
waffle came home from his playdate with his sister (at our neighbors)
all covered in mud.
so craig told the kids (and sean's friend) to give waffle a bath.

IMG_2875
they had never done it before so like a good mom would do….
i yelled at them all the ways they were doing it wrong.
and took pictures.

and yelled "don't get my camera wet!!" or "STOP spraying me!!"

IMG_2878
IMG_2882
they finally got him all sudsy and clean.
because of my awesome teaching.
not.

i think it's safe to say….

IMG_2877
he liked it.

and sean liked that he got to spray the dog's butt and not get in trouble for it.
because butts are funny.
it's like the number one top funny thing to boys….butts.

i don't get it.

(i love the book harry the dirty dog….you should own it if you don't already!)

Nike Shox Classic Sale - The grand Silicon Valley continues to be ‘ground zero’ for creative destruction, and complacent industries thousands of miles away could be toppled by someone working from their bedroom in Silicon Valley. on Friday. by joy 2-18.

S - I LOVE Waffle’s smile.

Trish @TheOldPostRoad - What does the back of the “the hippies were right” shirt say?

j - good to know the butt thing is a boy thing…we joke that my son is going to major butt-ology in college.

Christina - Oh my goodness..what is it with butts and the giggler. I was going to say they are attached, but that was going to sound really gross. Anyway, it is a constant topic of conversation around here. Brilliant stuff.
Your description of this even made me laugh out loud. (I hate writing LOL. So I type it out. Does that make me old? I don’t know.)

Sheryl - lol. no seriously LOL! My husband asked why I was laughing and I told him but he didn’t get it. I love your posts!! You are like my friend that I never met. so funny that boys are all the same, butts and poopoo…
totally off subject…I thought of you when I saw this blog.
wearethatfamily.com
the pillow case dresses for the poor! I am getting ready to have a sewing lesson and hope to do this for the Philippines mission that I am involved in….

Stefanie Roth - I thought it was just MY boys that thought BUTTS were funny! Good to know we’re not alone 🙂

Desiree' - yup…boys…butts, anything that comes out of a butt, and anything that covers a butt! my son thinks that putting underwear on your head is THE funniest thing EVER! 🙂

Ali - That last picture almost made me wet my pants from laughing! So fun!

Anne Marie - All the girls I watch love “butt” jokes, I think it’s a phase for almost all kids to see the reaction from Mom and Dad. (:

Denissa - I LOVE the last picture!!! 🙂 And yep my 3 boys are obsessed w/ butts…

Heather - that last picture is awesome.

Melissa - love the last photo.

Trish - Fun times… butts are funny to my girls. Just this morning they were singing about their doll dancing on it’s head with it’s butt in the air, and then laughing uncontrollably! Crazy kids.
Oh and I hope this wasn’t your craft for the week… I’ve been waiting to see what it is, trying to follow in your footsteps 🙂

Kristy Ann - Sean’s shirt is CRACKING me up!!

Christine Ishmael - I love Harry the Dirty Dog…my mom used to read that to us!

Penny - {{{{{Waffle}}}}} Give him a big hug for me! I just love Waffle.

Suzette - love everything about this post…from you yelling at the kids and telling them not to get you wet to the whole boy/butt thing! With 2 boys here I can TOTALLY relate…oh, and i have a dirty labradoodle, so I get it, is what I’m sayin.

merlin - My most favorite kid’s book, good old Harry the Dirty Dog.
I don’t understand why it is so very appealing, maybe it’s that you can be naughty, get all dirty on a great adventure and still be loved and wanted after a good cleaning up.
Thanks for reminding me of that favorite childhood memory.

Tegan and Tage - The Hippes Were Right!!! Ahahaha! That is the best shirt ever!

Lori - Oh man, I was hoping my 4-year-old would outgrow the butt thing after kindergarten. Don’t tell me we have years more of this!

www.Kellyloves.wordpress.com - butts and poo poo. i don’t get it either! Well, that’s not totally true. I laugh as well! hee hee
http://www.kellyloves.wordpress.com

Pamela duMont - butts and farts. and we own that book too. love it. btw…mentioned you and your awesome summer list on my blog. hope you don’t mind if we copy! my kids are dying to have a shaving cream fight and make the rainbow cake!

Sandy - Looks like Waffle enjoyed the butt spray as much or more than Sean! 🙂

Mindy W - You are right on the money about butts and boys. Right on the money! And it’s innate. I mean, my husband doesn’t go around saying “butt” or imitating butt noises.

jeana - We own the Harry the Dirty Dog books too. It was one of my favorites when I was little. Oh and yeah, butts. We have 3 boys…..that’s all I’m sayin.

Tammi - That last pic made me laugh out loud! Looks like waffle and Sean are both laughing-too funny. Something else I have to look forward to with my 4 yr old son…laughing about butts! 🙂

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - Oh I love that picture of Waffle smiling really big while they spray his butt! How adorable is that?! I want your dog…is that coveting my neighbor? Pure sweetness:)

Staci - Such a good boy that Waffle just letting Sean spray is booty 😛 My Connor just turned 8….and thinks that butts are funny too 🙁 BOYS! I do love them though…boys, not butts 🙁 Have a happy weekend 🙂

katie - he is so cute!! i love how he is smiling in the last picture!

Melanie - I have a 16 yr. old and they can make the oddest noises with their body parts and think that it is so funny! It is not to a mom:)

nora - butt! i love washing the dog in the summer – just a hose and the backyard. the winter? forget it. black hair all over our bathroom – what a nightmare.

Angie - He’s smiling!!!!

Dina - OK, I’m not a boy, but the way you wrote this – I’m thinkin’ butt’s are pretty funny too! 🙂 LOL!
I SOOOO needed to laugh this morning… thank you…

deb meyers - apparently waffle, being a boy, thinks butts are funny, too. I LOVE his expression in the last pic : )))
deb meyers

Mica - the funny thing is…it looks like he is laughing in the end…so stinkin cute..Mica/The Child’s Paper

Kimberlee J. - I love Sean’s t shirt. Does it say anything on the back?

kat - I love the last picture. Both Waffle’s and your son’ expressions are priceless. We have a stinky dog here that will probably be getting a bath outside this weekend too!

Sarah@Clover Lane - We own all the Harry the Dirty Dogs and they are my favorites!

Sara @ It's Good to be Queen - Okay, that last pictures is HIGH-LARIOUS!!! Such a boy! Also, that’s so how I teach my kids something too. ha! 😉

Juli - Talby is absolutely gorgeous. If she ever questions that when she is a teen (I always did) show her this picture where she is leaning over scrubbing Waffle, eyes down & intent. Perfect little lips, long eyelashes, perfect little nose… Could she be any more beautiful?!
Am I the only commenter who wants to know why “The Hippies were Right”?
Our dog loves to be shot with the hose too but she is a spastic Boxer. We call her Hyper Piper! She just jumps around like a Mexican jumping bean trying to drink it!

Lisa - Any post with waffle in it is a good one. I have girls, so no real interest in butts here. But they would have loved washing the dog.

Gemma - My dog hates baths/showers…his face gets all sad and he tries to hide lol
Gemma X

Julie - Butts are funny around here too. Several years ago we went to Florence, Italy and saw the statue David, and my younger son and I took a stroll around the statue looking at it from all angles and of course he cracked up when we got around back looking straight up at David’s butt! I’m attempting to instill culture in them, but I don’t think it’s working.
Gotta love boys. 😉

Laura Phelps - butts and poop. very funny to boys. but nothing compares to “stupid”, “so dumb” and “poopy head” or “poopy butt”….
boys.

Anya - I so don’t get the boys and butts thing either!!!

waffle the weirdo

IMG_0675
he is a big goofball….
that needs some serious training.

but who has time for that?
not this mother of five.

he is playing at the neighbor's house with his sister right now.

he is a dork.

amber - He makes me laugh…
I have a dorky dog too. Lilly. I bet they’d be goofy friends…goofballs.

jasmine bailey-barfuss - I shall call him Mr. Handsome, for what a handsome dog he be!

Kelly - I LOVE Waffle the weirdo! I love his name. I like it when I find him running through one of your photos or lying around in the background.
I have a terribly infantile, naughty little greyhound named Rooster who is reeking havoc on my household. Ask my older, mellow greyhound Big.

Michelle Whitlow - Awww, he’s so cute 🙂 What kind of dog is he?? BTW, I took your idea of doing the summer list. Posted it on my blog. My kids loooved the idea (I think they’re determined to get the entire list checked of in one week!!)

Angie - love Waffle!! We just got our own goldendoodle two weeks ago. Miss Libby is quirky and fun and pure entertainment. The kiddos already adore her!

Rachel - I’m beginning to think we have parallel lives…
first the margaritas….
now the dog…
Waffle is adorable.
Ours is Cupcake. Yellow lab. Nickname: Cup-idiot. (We do mean that affectionately.)
She needs serious training. Almost bowled over a poor old lady walking in front of our house yesterday. To her credit, she didn’t. Just sniffed her a little too intrusively.
Love that dog. Realized I’ve never blogged about her. How sad. Gonna have to rectify that…

Rebecca - i have to tell you…i love when you post photos of waffle…it’s almost like you can see his personality and smile in them…
…and his name….the coolest!

Dana@Bungalow'56 - I think its his name, and his big Ol’ black nose. I would consider a dog if I could find a waffle. I have always been in the no dog camp. What made you change your mind?
Dana

Rachel / cREaTe - I just scrolled up & down 4 or 5 times just to take him all in & giggle at his nerdy cuteness. He makes my heart go pitter-pat.

Phebe Roberts - Am lovin’ your signature happy dots collar on this adorabubble dog!

lauren - Waffle cracks me up! Seriously!
This just made my day!

Rachel @ Pencil Shavings - I love Waffle. I really love his name. I just showed my two-year-old his picture and told him that his name was Waffle. Jude pointed to the screen and said, “Dat’s Wafful.”

Tam - I Love Waffle. We have a labradoodle, Yankee, I wonder what he’d look like with a hair cut, I know he’d be a lot cooler. I think I’ll make an appt for him!

Adoria Dobrikova - This dog is so amazing! (I swear i can see a smile in the second picture) I love every photo of him 🙂 he is gorgeous. I guess it’s real fun to have him around…

Denissa - He is so dang cute!!! I would love to have a Goldendoodle next, but my hubby said NO more dogs after our spaz Lab 🙂
Btw, I LOVE his name…so, so cute!
P.S. Is the recipe for the Rainbow cake listed somewhere?
Thanks! 🙂
Denissa

Audrey - I made your Mama’s margaritas tonight for DH and I. They were definitely YUM-O! I think I drank mine a little too fast though and got horrid heartburn afterwards. BOO. That won’t stop me though – I’ll be making them again soon for company.
Oh yeah, Waffle is a cutie!

Seleta - Love all of those angles! He couldn’t possibly be any worse than Pippi. She’s a mess. A big, stinky, mess…with a big heart. Waffle seems so much more dignified than her. 🙂

miley d - nice photos waffle! i’m so over that camera thing…momma is always pointing that thing at me. you should demand treats, and lots of them!

Amanda - I love when you post about Waffle. He is so super CUTE!

Penny - Hi Waffle!! We have a big goofball Goldendoodle, Sophie, here at our house. Doodles are funny, entertaining dogs! Waffle looks like he is a lot of fun and full of personality! He must fit right in at your house.

Heidi Hentze - Hi Meg, I just happened upon your blog by chance and I enjoye your awesome photography. I gotta tell ya, I LOVE Waffles. His personality shines through in your pics and your stories of his antics. What a sweetaheart, wish I had a waffle; (lifestyle doesn’t permit right now) What a blessing he is:)

Melanie - He just sits right there while you take all those photo. He is a cutie!

donna - precious <3

ann - Your dog is adorable. I just want to give him a big hug! So glad you have a dog. They are good for your soul. I also want to try that last post with the margarita recipe. Wow does that look good!

Linda Johnson - He is not a dork, he is adorable, cherish him, you won’t always have him.
I really think he should be wearing tags too.
A big time animal lover and faithful reader of your wonderful blog.
Linda~

Tanya B - Seeing a post about your dog (months and months ago) made me realize that we should be grooming our labradoodle. What a difference it has made! He still sheds like crazy, but he looks so much better overall.

Musings Of A Gem - HEEHEE soooo cute! I didn’t know dogs could be dorky but it made me laugh anyway 😀
Gemma X

Diana - he is so sweet… i would love to train him for ya…
but then… you might not get him back 😀

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - I HEART Waffle! He is beyond adorable and sounds just as quirky as he looks.

Lanny Stanard - Awwww I needed me some waffle… I think he’s grand !

Holly - but oh so cute!

Lynn - He is soOooOOOOoooo cute! 🙂

Kimberlee J. - “Are you big Waffle’s Megan?”

purejoy - he is the most adorable dork i’ve ever seen! i ♥ waffle!!

Staci - I’ll take that dork from you any day 🙂 That face!!!!

Amanda C. - I love that he gets to play with his sister! Adorable.

Cindy - We drove by the other day – my niece from Washingington, DC was here and loves your blog like the rest of us. Anyway, we saw Waffle in the window!

sixty fifth avenue - I love him! If we were going to have a dog i think we would get a waffle too.

Lynda - HE IS SO FUNNY!!!!!!!

traci - I’m with Sarah, what an accomplishment for him to sit and have his photo taken over and over…WOW!!!!

Heather - i love his regal side view portrait. that dorky dog sure knows how to take a great photo!

sarah - I love him.
and at least he’ll sit still to have his photo taken, that’s more than I can say for my two silly dogs.

Jennifer - He is all kinds of cuteness, Meg! I love dorky dogs…we have one of our own! They are priceless aren’t they??!!

beautiful sunday

IMG_1378
IMG_1418
everything here is green.
we had storms last week and it left everything happily watered.
i love to be outside in the green and the sun…especially at dusk.

my weekend was full of goodness.
old friends coming to visit, graduation parties, rainbow cake, vacation starting, funny movies…
good times.

IMG_1423
IMG_1462
i am writing this late in the night sunday because i don't want to forget it.
i loved today.
and tomorrow may not be as good.
or maybe it will?
either way…i want to remember this day.

nothing special happened.
just a really nice day.

lauren and craig played catch.
scott was shooting baskets.
lauren picked out a swimsuit that i could agree to…that is a big deal.
annie seemed extra happy today.

IMG_1521
my views in the hammock…with craiggers.
IMG_1541
we talked a lot today…he and i.
i love talking/planning/dreaming/laughing with him.
he took me out for a date on saturday…for reals.
it was just what i wanted to do.
and just who i wanted to be with.

the kids jumped on the trampoline while the sprinklers ran.
and there was no fighting…miracle.
also earlier in the day annie and talby played a long time in their room together and i could hear
them giggling like crazy.
THAT is "good day" stuff!
(they jump off the rock wall to the trampoline…im fine with it.
don't comment on what a bad mom i am please…or share your trampoline horror stories…not today ok?)

oh how i love this dog.
it feels silly to me the amount of love that i feel towards an animal…but there is no denying it.
waff-eeee.

IMG_1548
craig picked up pizza for dinner.
ice creams cones before bed…in swim suits.
the kids went to sleep without a fight.

then craig, lauren and i watched the 2 hour season finale of LOST.
i wish it wasn't over.
i think it was brilliant television.
i will miss it.
that is an understatement.

craig tried to talk with me afterwards about the shows version of heaven…
i said it was too hard to talk about without crying.
not crying about the show (which i totally did) but crying thinking of what heaven will be like.
i was thinking about all the people who will be there that i know
and who are waiting to welcome me.

it is a lovely thought.

IMG_1410
today i thoroughly enjoyed being with my family.
it probably helped that we got away the night before for grown up time…to recharge.
we are better parents after we have been away.
everyone is like that right?

so that is what i wanted to remember.
good stuff today.

monday is summer here.
we will make the summer list….after we sleep in and i drink at least three cups of coffee.

Carley - been following the blog for a good while now! sweet sweet post today, love reading you!

Tiffany - Lovely~except for one thing….that trampoline looks SO close to the porch…little heads….
SORRY to be a party pooper…I’m just a Mama who tries to be proactive.
🙂

DreamGirlLisa - Your weekend sounds like heaven on earth 🙂 I can’t wait to have my oldest home from college and have my little family home for summer!16 more days and counting….

Melissa Gruber - Love the pictures…and how green it is. Makes me want to go plant more flowers in my yard today.
So happy you had a date with the hubby.
Enjoy summer!

michelle - i just love the way your express yourself Meg. what a beautiful day you had.
thank you for linking to my camera strap & ribbon holder and being my sweet friend who reads my blog. 🙂
hope your tomorrow is as blessed as your today was.
xoxo.

Vicki - I loved lost. I was slightly disappointed by the spoiler as well however… I was unable to watch the finale live due to church conflicts, and was really looking forward to watching it without a spoiler today. No hard feelings though, just a misunderstanding. Great post, lovely photos.

Mary Beth - I cried at the end of the finale too, because I was starting to think it WAS heaven. But everyone else was SO HAPPY. Nobody was sad about being dead. They were just waiting for Jack.
And I think about who is waiting for me in heaven.
The book, The Lovely Bones (didnt see the movie) was also a little about heaven, and I THINK a line in there was that YOUR heaven was what you wanted it to be.
I’m crying now.
And, please know that you will have more of these good days. Having OLDER children is the BEST. Better than 2 year old nap time.

kristine - hooray on such a happy day! i always love your honesty and vulnerability in the day to day so i’m glad you shared a day of such bliss. and you’re positive anyway so it’s not such a surprise but you deserve a day that you can genuinely say was great. (consider this your mother’s day!) 🙂 happy summer!

candace - what a wonderful post! have a happy summer 🙂

JJ - i love this post. this is life at it’s best. the good stuff.

Kelly - such a great idea to be intentional about capturing the ordinary good day! Kelly

Jaime Melcher - I love days like that! Our summer starts this Saturday… it seems like it’s taking forever!

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - Beautiful pics Meg. So glad you got a real date with your honey.
I’ve never watched Lost. I might get the whole series and start from the beginning. I was lost when I tried to watch it a few times.
As always…loved your post. A beautiful Sunday indeed:)

Leigh - I am with you Meg! the lost person who whined on the lost ending? Hello!! It was obvious that she was going to talk about her feelings on it.
So you should have stopped reading. No brainer. The end was so much more upsetting that I thought it would be!!

Sandra K - That was an amazing post Meg…and just what I needed to read today, so thank you for that. I love your blog.
Blessings and hugs.

Laura Phelps - a family, still together, loving and laughing and enjoying each other
that IS good stuff
and not as easy to come by as it sounds
and now summer is here…hmm..
was Sunday the calm before the storm?????!
even so…we need storms sometimes, right?
that is what makes everything so GREEN!!
xo

Karen - loved this post…made me reflective and hopeful and made me want to cherish my time even more with my kiddos and my hubby. We celebrated my little guy’s 3rd bday on Saturday with rainbow cupcakes- it seriously made his entire birthday- he’s still talking about it. Thanks for the inspiration! Your blog is awesome and the first thing I want to read after I get the kiddos down for a nap- your honesty and hopefulness always encourages me and I walk away wanting to be a better mom. Hope you have a great start of your summer!

MEG DUERKSEN - dear LOST commenter….
BOO HOO.
you could have stopped reading at the words LOST finale
lighten up would ya?
if you are going to write an angry comment at least leave a REAL email address…
that is lame.

Julie - Thank you for sharing this. It sounds like a lovely day – the most wonderful kind of ordinary that makes a beautiful life.

Michelle Whitlow - Your day sounds lovely. It’s funny that I’m reading this and you’re talking about heaven and what it’ll be like. My brother just passed away suddenly at 29 last week. And I, of course, have been thinking a lot about heaven. A lot. Thanks for sharing this post. It made me smile 🙂

Lost - Thank you for the Lost spoiler. For those of us who have yet to watch, I was unaware that they died, which is implied by your comment about heaven. Please refrain from any more spoilers and make note before next time. Or better yet, don’t post any spoilers at all.

The lady of the House - What a fun weekend – a weekend full of nothing with the people that mean everything. and thanks… I’m drooling! Betweent he icecream and the rainbow cake… totally drooling!
Happy Day, The lady

Carrie Anderson - Loving this post. It may sound weird, but I actually felt good, like I was part of it, just reading the post.
It was great to hear a sweet bit about Lauren. The teen phase is tough on everyone, so even the little moments are worth documenting and cherishing.
This post is one of my favorites. Like you said, nothing particularly special about it, it was just a feel good kind of post. And I needed a feel good post today.
PS – Making your rainbow cake for my niece birthday party this weekend. She is so excited!

Chris - I understand what you mean about how much you love your dog. We have a dog that looks just like Waffle only he’s gray. He’s poodle and sheep dog. He has the best, most loving, personality. And we can’t help loving him back!

Karina - I’m glad you had a great day. It is all about home and family, if you ask me. And extra nice when there is no fighting and lots of ice cream!!!
I watched the first season or two of Lost and loved it. Then we moved across the country and gave up TV. With 3 small children, we think they don’t need it right now. I could download episodes of favourite shows, but I don’t really have time to watch them, so I have been reading lots and lots and lots of books instead (they are more portable and quieter than TV).
However, I loved that show, and I can’t even imagine how it turned out (where I left off, it was pretty far from heaven, I must say!). Heaven, huh? I’m not sure what to think of that since I don’t believe in heaven. I like the love part, though. I’ll have to google it to find out what it was all about.
Have many more wonderful days, now that summer is here, and make sure they are sprinkled with more dates with “Craiggers.” 🙂

Rachel - You’re such a real person, Meg. I love that. You’re not a bad mom for letting your kids be kids, either. Remember when we ‘grownups’ were kids and we stayed out all day without cell phones and without having to check in. Just us and our friends on bikes in the neighbourhood. Now, that loss is worth crying over.
So glad you had a wonderful, ordinary day.
Summer here doesn’t begin until July. For real. It was so cold here yesterday that the flowers I bought are sitting in the porch because I can’t plant them outside yet without worrying about frost.

Amy Mumaw - I too had a great weekend with the family. I am excited to see this post because I feel the same way and tomorrow may not be as great. CHERISH THESE MOMENTS .My summer begins June 10th . In Ohio school goes that long!
Enjoy the time with your kids, it flies by!!!!

Meredith Salmon - Thanks for sharing your day. It made me realize that I need to do more of those type of days and get my husband to do them too. We both have a hard time doing nothing, but it is so worth it. Thanks for making my day happy!!!

Maria - The first thing I thought was, “yay! She got to have Mother’s day!”. Sounds like such the perfect day, and good for you for writing about it before it was gone.

tara pollard pakosta - what a beautiful post!
My brother has 4 kids and he lets them jump off
the roof onto their trampoline! crazy! but boy they love it. nobody has been hurt yet and it’s been years>!
love your weekend love post, how awesome!
tara

Janine - So it sounds like yesterday was your real Mother’s Day 🙂

Elisa - I am so jealous that your summer has started. I am counting down the days.

Sara - This seriously looks like a killer day!! Enjoy your summer!!

Flower Patch Farmgirl - Pitch perfect. My kind of post. My kind of life. I love that you loved your day. Definitely worth documenting! Couldn’t agree more about getting out with the Honey…and talking and planning…Couldn’t agree more about the pizza and ice cream.
You’re one cool lady. But you probably already knew that?

Amanda C. - This sounds like a great Mother’s Day, just a little late! <3

Sarah - What a wonderful day. Isn’t it amazing how mundane days can be the best ones we have? So sweet.

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - OH Meg. That is beautiful.
I agree. Some alone time with daddy does a mommy good.
I went for a walk Sunday morning because of you. Your stretching picture completely inspired me.
I will be praying that today is special, too.

Katherine @ Grass Stains - “SPRINKLED.” Sorry.

Katherine @ Grass Stains - We loved the LOST finale and weren’t bothered that so many questions were left unanswered. The “reunions” sprinked throughout were beautiful, and I think overall it was nicely done.
And I think there is bound to be rainbow cake in Heaven.

mandy friend - those are the days that remind us huh?? The ones that speak to your spirit and remind us how good God is (as if we should ever forget). Please share your funny movies…always on a look out for good ones;)

Amanda - awesome post – SO glad you had this day. I got goosebumps and almost tears just reading the details of your wonderful day.

Nicole Q. - What a sweet sweet day and I loved how you needed to write it BEFORE the next day came. The “next day” has a way of changing our view of the great day before it!! I’m with you on the recharging with your man, makes family time all the better!!
WE were so sad to have missed you guys at the party … sniff sniff… i knew Tatum would have loved to run around with Annie. Even Lynette said she thought those girls would hit it off big time. We were at the parties for my cousins just way to long before making it to Josh’s. We spent time with them Sunday too which was really nice. They are like family and we miss them so so much. Didn’t you love all the charm of rita’s backyard?? So glad you had a great weekend, hope this first official week of no school is a good one. I’m working at recharging today after the weekend so we can jump into a good week too.

Jennifer - We’re a week behind you in terms of vacation. My weekend was frantic getting the girls to and from recitals and rehearsals. So reading your blog made me take a deep breath and relax. 🙂 Also, love your flowers and dog.

Beth Ann - Happy Mothers Day 2 weeks later!!!! It sounds like your family operates on their own calendar, not one dictated by hallmark 🙂

Karen Gerstenberger - Yes, I think everyone is a better parent when they have a little time away. You’d get stale at ANY job if you never had time away from the office! Those precious, happy times as a couple help to get you through the tougher times. Refueling is necessary! SO glad that you got to do it – and to enjoy your weekend with your family.

Lora - I loved reading about your wonderful day… that hammock sounds pretty great! I will miss LOST too. I was so glad they had a good ending.

Kimberlee J. - Loved the post. Date night equals happiness. 🙂

Courtney Walsh - I had to skip the part about LOST. I’m only on season 5. I don’t want to know anything because right now I seriously don’t know anything. I mean, even about what’s going on in season 5. lol
Sounds like a heavenly day!! 🙂

Liz - Sounds like a perfect day to me! Thank you for sharing it with us!
Thanks to you, we will also be making a summer list for the second year in a row. I’m really thrilled about the lazy summer days ahead,… especially since my oldest starts Kindergarten in the fall and the thought of it instantly makes me do the ugly cry.

Tammy - truly a perfect day! Hope today is a great one, and if it’s not, just think back to yesterday.

Robyn - a day without fighting? a miracle! recently i said i feel like living with a four year old is like having an abusive relationship… me being the victim!
happy summer… hope you share your summer list for some inspiration!

Angie - I am seriously in love with your dog. A picture of him on your blog makes. my. day. Please give him a little scratchy scratch for me.

`Kelly - A whole bunch of little things that by themselves would be nothing but put together make for a wonderful weekend. I love those kind.
Two more things. A – I think it’s cool you let your kids jump off the wall.
B. – Lost. I’m so not sure what I think about that ending. I think it’s hard to make what I believe mesh with what I saw. Does that make sense? I loved the whole 4.5 hour hoopla up until the last 15ish minutes. I’m just not sure I liked that ending.

sarah - What a beautiful post.
I’m so glad you had a great date with Craig and a wonderful Sunday at home with your family!

Jill - You are the best! It’s great that you document the good days and just enjoy them for what they are – an ordinary day. I hope Monday, today, is a great day – unexpectantly (is that a word?) great.

Heather - Inspiring and beautiful! The pictures and reflections. My children are still quite young and too often I rush through the weekend trying to complete the to-do list so we can be ready for the next week. So much more pleasurable to take long walks, share a meal with friends and take pictures! This year, we’re making a list, too. Thanks for the wonderful idea 🙂

Cate O'Malley - sounds like an awesome weekend. some times, they are good times, just because. nothing definable, just because. love that.

Sara Cameli - Nice post…and we also had a date Saturday pm. All good.

Sarah - Beautiful Day and lovely post!

Donna - I love how on the trampoline picture you can see the basketball in the background about to go into the hoop. Perfect timing!

Zeroed-in - My fondest memories are of days like this as a kid.

Trasie - Can I please just move into your world? I just want one weekend where I can just watch the world go by at a slow pace and enjoy my husband. Please tell me it’s easier when your kids get older!

Melanie - Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend and an even better Sunday. Hope that your week is just as good.

Heather R. - Love the good days 🙂 I’m glad you had a good weekend.

Eileen - I think your day sounds like perfection! (And I’m glad you liked the finale of Lost. It made me cry so hard — thinking of getting to see my late mother again. And I love any show that thinks that LOVE is an important, life-altering concept.)

LeAnne Cotton - Sounds like a day that your children will also remember as the “good ole days!” My daughter and I came up with our summer list (inspired by seeing yours last year) and it was pretty long. I am very excited to be intentional with our summer this year. 🙂 I enjoy your blog – it is fun to read and so pretty.

pam - This was nice…astounding how the Lost ending made us all hold our breaths, hoping for the ending we wanted…love won

Tara - date nights really do make us better parents.
the flowers in your pictures are amazing pics.
my kids use to jump off our back deck onto the trampoline.
🙂 happy monday!

Janie Fox - That was a great Sunday. I love days where we all just enjoy each other. My kids had a trampoline and used to jump off their playhouse roof onto it. At that point I was just glad they were playing, not fighting or whining! Those summer days can be a challenge when kids are not getting along together! Have a great Monday! It’s 90 here this week… grandkids and I will be hitting the sprinkler and popsicles!

tara - such a great day…
bookmark it…
to remember what happens after a date night.
Just saying to Kevin yesterday that we need one…
BADLY.
Fabulous pictures. Love annie and the ice cream cone.
I hope today is just as sweet.
~Tara

j - I love perfectly normal days. We did the beach and pool in one day…walmart in between (that wasn’t the best part of the day)
I love your flower pictures. yum.

jennibell - What a beautiful day! Thanks for sharing it. Summer starts here tomorrow, but my kids don’t “get” sleeping in 🙂 Wishing you all the best this season has to bring you!!

Jennifer - I love this post. Reminds me a lot of my day. Nothing special…but a whole bunch of simple little things that made it great. One…at lunch, ( a picnic on the porch) my husband kept passing me the food he knew I couldn’t reach. OK…this just sounds CRAZY now that I have typed it out….but I actually noticed it, and made me happy. Love your post. Love your pictures. Love your blog. That’s all. 🙂

Georgia - Sounds like the perfect Sunday!!! 🙂
I havent watched the Lost finally yet, its recorded, as in the UK it was on at 5am!!! noooo way was i getting up that early! lol

Julie - Ahhh, so good! My kind of day. We don’t have many of those good days anymore ~ moments, yes, days, not so much anymore.
I love thinking about heaven too ~

Vera - What a sweet post. It made me happy!
Your Lost finale story reminded me of when Friends ended – it was the end of my first year of law school and I watched it with some of my law school friends and I cried and cried and cried… everyone thought I was crazy, because I was crying over a show, but I was really crying over that year being over and all these great friendships changing (which I knew they would, and they did).
Happy Summer!!!

shhh…don’t tell craig

IMG_8585
waffle isn't allowed on the furniture….
when craig is home.

IMG_8581
i am supposed to kick him off too but this was way too cute.

he likes to watch clifford.
and he is cuddly and warm to sit by.

i will keep your secret waffle.

Lynn - Our dog isn’t supposed to be on the sofa either but the first time my mom let him up and he cuddled up to her, put his head on her lap and gave a huge sigh, there was no going back.
I love the doggie sofa cuddles.

Suzanne Gallagher - What a face! Too Cute!

miley d - way to go waffle!!!!!!!!!!

Kellie Dugan - I love waffle! He can come sleep on my couch anyday. They are brand new too! I love his long wavy and curley hair. I bet this is good for the summer coming up or are you having trouble with all the pet hair on the floor too? We vacuum every other day.

linda lou - annie is such a angel sleeping and waffle too..(:

Lindsay - We started out not letting our dogs on the couch. We changed. We ran out of room for 2 large dogs and 2 people. Ended up buying a new couch to fit us all!

Amanda C. - Nothing made me happier as a little girl than laying on the couch with my puppy! Those are wonderful memories!

Barb Cassidy - Too cute! And I just love Annie’s outfit!

Kimberlee J. - Somehow, I’m guessing Craig knows…

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - I love his name. Waffle…so sweet and fitting:)

Sandy - Love it! Please remind us where you got his collar.

Laura Phelps - I’m telling….

Tracy - LOL I LOVE this picture! He’s so adorable and it looks like he is protecting little miss Annie. :o) If it were up to me, my babies that we used to have would have SLEPT between me and the hubster but he wouldn’t hear of it – HA!

lifeologia - Soo cute. He looks so cuddly. Just wanted to drop a note that I’m doing my 1st GIVEAWAY on my blog. http://www.lifeologia.com. Hope you can come visit and enter. Everyone is invited 😉

Lanny Stanard - waffle got his summer doo… He can come on my couch any time 🙂 he’s so cute !

Erika at BluLabel Bungalow - first time here. i’m loving all the vivid colors and beautiful family photography. i can tell there’s lots of love in your home. so kind for you to share with us!

Melanie - He is so cute and looks like he loves to snuggle.

Jaime Melcher - So sweet! I loved Waffle so much from your blog that we got our own during Spring Break… Her name is Abbey & she is great with our girls!
Best dog, EVER!

Stephanie Carroll - I love that dog!

Jessica from Stars and Clouds - How adorable! Both of them! You are a lucky woman, Meg!

Christy - They are so cute! Little Annie is just the sweetest looking little cherub & Waffle! Sigh, I love him. I have two Labs (not doodles).

Amanda - Such cute pictures. Waffle is so adorable! They had puppies like him in our local pet shop – it took every bit of will power I had not buy one.

Staci - Secret is ever so safe with me 🙂 And you are right….that is just too precious!!! I miss a big dog around 🙁

april - i love that waffle loves clifford…..<3

elisa - love 🙂

kelly - That was too sweet to pass up! I love that second photo…

sarah - That is precious.

pam - how comfy cozy!!!

nichole shinners - look at that face.. he knows. Dogs are so funny, they know the mama gives in… just like our dogs know too 😉

Julie - Looks like a different dog when clipped! Very cute. I can see that Clifford would be a favorite!

Kate - Oh, cute!!!!

Courtney Walsh - that second picture is adorable. What a sweetie.

Dianne Avery - Ahhh, that’s to cute to break up! I would have allowed that too. 🙂

Michelle - so cute. . . we have the same rule at our house. . .except I am like craig 🙂 Jonathan lets them up all the time when I am not home.

Barbara - The two of them together is just too cute for words…I bet Dad secretly thinks so too!

emily - we have the same secret in our house!
there’s nothing cuter than a kiddo cuddling on the couch with their furry friend!!!!

Penny - Oh, Waffle, you are so sweet! We are guilty too. Our Golden and our Goldendoodle are lap dogs! They love to cuddle.
Amy–I breed doodles, they really are pups for at least 18 months. A good long walk(if possible) or a game of catch should get some of that energy out. Our 11 month old doodle is calming down more all the time. They just want to have fun, fun, fun! 🙂 I think it’s because they are so smart, they really like stimulation. Try working on tricks and fetch, it will wear the pup out. Our Golden settled down a lot once she reached about 20 months. (Sorry!)I wish you luck. Once you are over that puppy stage you really will have about the best dog out there! They are wonderful for families.

paige - love that waffle & his secret life too

Ashley - Ah! I have the same pics of my dog and girl! And your secret is safe with me – as long as no one tells my hubby!! How funny that there are all these comments about hubbys and the wives being the rule-breakers! hehe!

Tam - I have to laugh! The same thing happens in our house, but then I get mad at myself for letting Yankee get on the couches when i’m cleaning up dog hair! He’s a labradoodle-he’s not supposed to shed…but he does 🙁 I think he needs a hair cut like Waffle’s.

Nienke at Revel - Goodness me – so cute! I’m on the hunt for a new puppy and my #1 requirement is that it likes to cuddle 🙂

Barb - Oops. I think the jig might be up. (Unless Craig doesn’t read your blog; then you might be safe.)

Gemma - He is lovely! Love the name waffle 😀 Mine isn’t allowed on the furniture either…but he is lovely and soft!
If you guys get a chance please visit my blog http://musings-of-a-gem.blogspot.com/
Gemma X

AmyB - Sooo cute!!
I don’t allow my dog on the furniture either but sometimes when I’m sick and laying on the couch…I’ll let him climb up and cuddle next to me… 🙂

Marie - So cute…and I suspect Waffle knows that;)
Ours aren’t allowed on the furniture, either, but somewhere along the way, they decided it is okay to get on the couch when we aren’t home. If I let my bedroom door open, my one dog sneaks in there and snuggles up on my bed. When I walk up the steps, she hears me coming, and I hear the “thump” of her quickly hopping off. So sneaky!

Amy Mierzejewski - Okay, I have two comments and one question about this post:
1. Waffle is adorable
2. We have the same “rules” when dad is out of the house at work.
3. I have a 6 month old goldendoodle (who looks just like waffle!) and he is still WAAAYYY hyper! Like, he would never just lounge around like that without attempting to wrestle, gnaw, or hump. How old is Waffle? When did he get to be so mellow? Give a girl some hope please…

Debby - Awwww…too cute!

Chris Kauffman - Awww , that’s so sweet, our pups always sit with us , but their breed is a “companion” dog , it would be cruel not to let them up they are just little , my buddies , did you know not all dogs notice or can see tv , it is a sign of greater intellegence , my one dog loves anything on tv with animals the other dog can not even see whats on ….

Darlene - Your secret is safe with me. I love cuddling with my 3 dogs. Anytime, anyplace.

Heather R. - So sweet. A cuddle and Clifford…can you blame him? 🙂

Emily - We have the exact opposite thing going on over here, I hate the dogs on the furniture. Not because they are not awesome to snuggle with, but because I’m the one who has to vacuum the couches and spray them with febreze when they make it smelly.

jack - I like his new haircut!

kelly - Roscoe’s not allowed on the furniture either… Yeah, right. Good thing that poodles and doodles are basically non-shedders, huh? 😉

krystall - Too cute, I would do the exact same thing!!!

Cate O'Malley - haha, our dog isn’t supposed to be on the couches either. when i walk by, and he is, he gets real still, like if he plays the statue game, i might not notice 110 lbs of massive dog beast on the couch. as if.

Jessica - One Shiny Star - It only get’s worse from there. I let my dog start sitting on the couch occasionally, and now she gets up there every time we’re gone. She’s even started standing on it so she can peak her head through the curtains and bark at people.
It’s a slippery trail my friend.

Angie - I. Heart. Waffle.

alyssa - he is just too cute!!!!

Jill - we have cats. they do what they like whether we want them to or not! 🙂

Mother Runner - same for jett.
my shadow.
1st commenter – it’s like i’m the coolest blog follower EVER!

caution: your heart is about to melt.

IMG_3375

we got to go visit miss shana's puppies.

seven sweet beautiful soft perfect golden-doodle puppies.

and we all fell in love.

IMG_3383

IMG_3378

IMG_3373

even sean was smitten.

he was also quite interested in the doggie door.

he asked if we could get a girl dog & boy dog so we could have puppies.

funny that he didn't just ask for a puppy??

but she did…

IMG_3379

IMG_3387

and they did.

and when we got home…i did.

how could you not want to keep a puppy named waffle?

IMG_3362

this is kate in the background.

she is such a good little mama to these babies.

she kept annie from dropping them.

and tried to answer all her questions.

she helped name them:

waffle, hawk, lilly, jet, jessica, stripey, and jack black.

sean couldn't believe she called them poopers.

it was his new favorite thought…calling puppies…poopies.

IMG_3370

IMG_3398

it's official.

we all want one.

but daddy (the logical sane one) is saying no.

does he have no heart?

is it made of stone?

who could say no to this?

IMG_3367

thanks shana.

we'll be back.

maybe we'll bring craig along.

**************************************************************************

oh yeah…i forgot to mention…we have a horrible history with owning dogs.

we are not good at it.

but maybe

if it's not a mutt…

or previously abused…

or very old with bowel problems….

maybe it would work?

Lisa K - so… I was reading through the Waffle tags to see if you ever mentioned what kind of dog he is. I love this post! Seeing your kids so young…
I am NOT an animal person at all. We have 8 kids from 9mo – 14yrs and the last thing we needed was a licky, sheddy, barky, creature. But, alas, I have caved and we are now the proud owners of a one year old yellow Labradoodle named Charlie. He is tall and thin like Waffle, but not as curly. We’ve had him 3 weeks so far and it is going better than I thought it would. He’s a good dog (:

kristine - and the rest is history! i love rereading this story!

Diana - Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, he was so TINY back then!!
And we all know that Craig changed his mind.
And you guys LOVE that doggie so much… in spite of his eating the last piece of cheesecake.
{Waffle Fan Club LOL!}

Rachel / cREaTe - huh – i always thought YOU guys named him waffle! the name cracks me up! so so cute … i can see why you all CAVED! {i love waffle!}

Michelle Gidosh - I love this post for two reasons… I had a golden retriever names Waffles growing up….
and our Black lab “Charlie” just had puppies this afternoon…. 5 of them…. 3 black and 2 yellow…. their daddy is our Chocolate lab …”Hazard”… can’t wait to take photos of them tomorrow….
…. wishing you a lovely adventure

Gretchen - This was fun to read knowing the outcome. What cute puppies. But then, what puppies aren’t cute?

kelly@the blue muse - sweet poopy love…

nicole - Oh…thanks for sharing this, since waffle is such a part of the blog/family now! We have an old mutt–never got to see him as a pup, so this was SWEET!

Lindsay Thomas - I am in love with your children and I don’t even know you or them. They are so beautiful! I have decided I know what Annie sounds like when she giggle and it’s too darn cute. 🙂 Ok, is this weird?! haha! Oh, the puppies are cute too…:) VERY CUTE! I love dogs.

Jessica Reed - I’m a sucker for dogs… I have two. lol. I would have more if I could. Who could say no to this animal that will always love you, and never talk back?! lol.
Hope you’re safe. 🙂

Julie Wriston - I will NOT show this to my five kiddos ~ they all want a dog. No, can, do right now. If I could smell one of those wonderful little puppies, I might be persuaded. They are too cute! 🙂

Amy - We adopted our goldendoodle when he was a year old. I’ve always wondered what he looked like as a puppy….and now i know.

Rosemary - Hi, I found your blog a couple weeks ago, and I’ve been reading it like crazy. Your dog has to be the cutest dog I’ve seen. I want to squeeze her! Although, I don’t know if she’d care for it, but with five kids, I’m sure she is used to it.
It did make me laugh out loud when I read that you wrote, “if it’s not a mutt…” because that kinda is what a GoldenDoodle is. A mutt is a dog with characteristics of two or more dog breeds, and really, I think they are the best kinds! 🙂
Anyway, just wanted to stop by and say hello!

Staci - Oh man….makes me want another poopy 🙂 Prayers to you and your group!!!!!

Robyn Farmer - Praying for you while you are in Africa. I love Waffle! I have a friend that has a dog that looks just like Waffle.

Lisa - Well we all know how this turned out… Waffle is just so darling. xxx
