i am a fan.

IMAG0549-1 IMAG0551-2

my husband took me on a hot date last night to hear the Avett Brothers.
to make it more amazing to me….it was at the Orpheum.
it's a 90 year old theater and it's gorgeously shabby inside.

IMAG0553-4
there is all chippy paint and exposed brick, very grand and over done in the details.
it is such a beautiful place to see a show….especially this show.
it is a small theater only holding 1200.
we knew several people once we got there so it really did feel like a party.

IMAG0552-3

the Avett Brothers band was very obviously having a BLAST up on stage.
they were going nuts on all their instruments…i had no idea a banjo could rock like that?!!  or a cello?!!
i have never really heard anything like it in person…..i was completely in love.
i really liked their music before but it doesn't even compare to the live show!!
it was SO GOOD!

you need to listen to them.  you need to go to their show.  you will LOVE it.

i kept thinking about how much my dad and sister would have loved that show.
🙂
i hear a lot of my childhood in their music.

i found this clip of them from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon….liked it!

they sang this at the end during the encore…not rockin' but still beautiful…  :)

then my favorite video i found was the Tiny Desk Concert Series from NPR.
it's 15 minutes long….i don't expect everyone to watch that….but i have watched it twice today already.
🙂

and none of those compare to being there.

wow.

thanks for taking me Mr. Duerksen.
you are my favorite.

i am also a fan of ginormous trees on a sunshiney day.

IMG_7792-1

this five-trees-in-one is in the yard right out the window from the kitchen and front room.
it's perfect to climb.

IMG_7801-3 IMG_7796-2

IMG_7806-1

i was more of a fan of this dog when he played in the sun and looked and smelled a little cleaner.

IMG_7811-2

he is now stinky and very muddy.
blerg.

i ran five miles yesterday on the treadmill at the gym.
i watched part of a basketball game, part of Hoarders and part of Behind the Music about PINK.
ha!
i am hoping this killer headache i have goes away so i can get back out today and get a run in….
maybe…..
if the sun comes out again it would sure help my motivation!

happy monday to you.

Flower Patch Farmgirl - We are newly obsessed, too. (We always get to the cool stuff late.) Cory goes around singing that song about “if he dies in the city”. It freaks me out a little.
That venue is slaying me.

Mindi - We love love love the Avett Brothers! We are going to see them in June! Can’t wait we are super excited. My 6 year old loves, Die Die Die, my 4 year old loves I and Love and You and my fav is January Wedding…probably! For our anniversary I made my husband a sign with our last name and the line, “always remember there was nothing worth sharing like a love that let us share our name.”
So glad you enjoyed the show!

Christy Brenneman - Never heard the Avett Bros before. Love that music! Waffle looks like he’s having a grand time in the country! Loved that tree so much…a great climbing tree.

A Facebook User - Sweet! We saw them Saturday night and scored VIP tickets in the front row (because I’m a uber-geek — such a geek that I have a “Backwards With Time” tattoo and am planning a half-sleeve around other favorite Avetts songs — and hit “buy” immediately when they came on sale). Seth came off the stage and gave my son a guitar pick, thereby cementing his place as Henry’s favorite (formerly Joe Kwon! Sorry, Joe!).
They don’t get boring even after seeing them multiple times, I can assure you. (I’m hinting that they’ll be in Tulsa in a few weeks and again at Crossroads KC this summer, but I won’t be able to go because my due date is getting too close and my husband hated Crossroads last time we saw them there).

Emilee Prenevost - Ok so this has nothing to do with your post, but I was blog surfing and found this post and totally thought of you 🙂 http://www.landeeseelandeedo.com/2012/03/rainbow-roundup.html
Oh and I love your pics of Waffle! My dog’s name is Meatball…lol 🙂 He’s a gray mini schnauzer 🙂 he would have fun playing with Waffle 🙂 love ya!

Stephanie - This is so funny! As I was reading your blog I was listening to The Avett Brothers on Pandora! Love them! Waiting for them to come to California so I can go see them. I am even more excited to see them after your review! 🙂

Heather - I’m a fan of Avett Brothers. If you haven’t checked out The Polyphonic Spree yet, you must! Some of the most uplifting music I have ever heard and great for all ages!

Michelle - Yeah Avett Brothers! My 1st experience was seeing them live in 2007 at NC State’s homecoming. AMAZING!

Shauna Howington - Came back to reread your post and rewatch the clips. Yeah, I love them that much! Ha! What a treat that Bob Crawford was back on the bass, since his little girl has been so sick.
I love when the NPR guy asks Scott if he swallowed an amplifier when he was younger. 🙂

Dina - I.was.there.last.night.TOOOOO!!!! The Avett Brothers are amaaaazing! We had the best time! Had I known you would be there, I would have put my ‘Meg stalker skills’ to work:-)

Rachel - Went to an Avett Bros concert a few years ago w/o having ever heard of them. It was probably my favorite concert of all time… and now they are one of my favorite bands of all time. So so fun and entertaining!!!

amy jupin - semi-obsessed with the avett bros.
yay for date night!!

Sara - Love the Avett Brothers – how fun!

Capricious - Love your sunshine, Waffle and tree pics! I look forward to your posts everyday! I am from Kansas and miss it so. I love how you love Kansas, color, crafts, and Sonic! I posted a link to a blog today with a print that made me think of you since we share a love for Sonic drinks! Congrats on your move!

Andrea Jeanne - I am so jealous…I love them. Glad you had a chance to see them in person. I have heard that they put on a great show.

Lindsey@ Piecefully Home - we’re huge avett fans around here, esp. their early stuff. i’ve seen them a lot and each time is fantastic. 🙂

Katie Beth - Okay, so I have to ask…when you say you run 5 miles, do you mean without stopping…not walking at all? If so I am uber impressed, and I want to get to that point. I just recently started running [it had been about 7 years since high school when I played sports], and I really want to do a 5k, but I want to do it without walking breaks. How do you increase without dying? How do you know when to increase because I feel just as tired each time it seems. My longest is 1.5 miles without walking. I know I can increase, but holy cow…5 miles! Go you!

flowerpowermomma - aha! Waffle is becoming a ‘farm dog’, they don’t smell very well, but they sure have fun. Will explore the music later..it’s just gorgeous in my neck of the woods so i must get outside.

Heather - yay, I love me some Avetts! They are SO MUCH FUN live! How crazy is Joe Kwon dancing around with that cello?! I saw them when I lived in Nashville at the Ryman (the mother church of country music)- got a poster and had it framed so I could remember it forever. 🙂 They have I think 3 live CDs which sort of capture some of the fun of their shows, but nothing is as great as that room full of people singing and clapping and stomping their feet right along with you!

Lauren - My kids are always saying our yard needs a bigger climbing tree, yours looks great!

lorel - Oh I really wanted to go to that concert but when I looked online the tickets were $75! Craig is awesome to get them for $35. Lucky you guys!

Carrie - I am ridiculously jealous! They were in Springfield, just an hour away from me, Saturday! I had no one to go with… should have went alone! Maybe one day I will have friends who like the same music as I do!

Kathy P - I had never heard of the Avett brothers, so i blasted those tunes here now in the house at 6.30 in the morning, sounded AWESOME. So spririted Those boys are hot!!!!!

Amber. - I’ve been a lurker of your blog for quiet some time, so I already knew you were awesome…but the fact that you have fallen in love with the avetts means you are beyond awesome.
I’ve had a huge crush on that band/their music for a few years now. But, nothing compares to hearing them live. After going to five of their concerts, listening to their music on a computer does it no justice. If possible, you should see them on NYE! I’ve went to two of their NYE shows…let me just say, AMAZING.
🙂

Grace - Thanks for sharing! Waffle is really cute on the last picture! He is kind of crossing his eyes 🙂

jenni - LOVE the Avett Bros! Love the lyrics:
…nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our name…
Glad you and the Mr. enjoyed the show 🙂

Sandy - I love that Talby has shorts and a tshirt on in the middle of March! I could take this years winter EVERY year! I used to love the snow and still do really…but I have loved this winter with no (very little!) snow and lots of sunshine and spring like days!!

Melissa - I can’t believe I’ve never heard them before-Love it! Thanks for sharing about them, I googles them and listened to a bunch of their stuff, so great! A thousand times better than the Chipmunks Christmas CD that the toddlers love listening to in the car!

Maureen - Love,Love, Love them. Our whole family listens to them and my 15 year old played for me “Murder in the City” last Mother’s Day. One of the prettiest songs, especially when you have two boys and a girl. “Always remember there was nothing worth sharing, like the love that let us share our name.”
How fun, you will always remember that concert!!

beth - love the Avette brothers! How cool that you got to go see them in concert. Waffle cracks.me.up. I love my dog the most when she’s freshly cleaned and hasn’t rolled in…anything. ha!

Laura - I’ve listened to “January Wedding” an embarrassing number of times. My husband should be worried. I have the hugest crush on Seth. So jealous that you saw them in concert!

Sharla - We were there too! I wasn’t really a fan of their music before (this was for Nathan’s birthday), but I definitely appreciate them more after hearing them live. They were great! Love date nights. 🙂

Amanda Eudy - Excellent! The Avett’s are my favorite band! So glad you had the chance to see them live..Whenever I tell someone about them, I include the statement “You have to see them live, they are AMAZING!”
Glad you enjoyed the boys 🙂

Melissa - My brother saw the Avett Brothers in Springfield Friday night and then traveled to Witchita to see them again Saturday night! I saw them last summer at RedRocks in Colorado. They put on a fabulous show!

Ashlyn@Pinecone - The hubs and I and our 3 girls are going to see the Avett Brothers in April in Ithica, NY and I cannot wait!!!! We all love them over here – love the pics!
xo
Ashlyn

Nikki - You are blessed to have a hubby that took you. Tim and I just don’t see eye to eye when it comes to music. I’m still considering seeing them all alone if I have to though!!

Heather S. - The sun’s out now in T-town! Hope it’s shining on you now as well! I got my booty out of bed for an hour long boot camp class at 5:30….that was hard after spring forward weekend – but so glad I did it!

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Hey you know what, there’s an Orpheum theatre here in Los Angeles and it’s so beautiful and shabby inside too and I love it! That’s funny that there’s a chain of them?! Anyway so glad you had a date night. They are so important aren’t they? Glad you made the time. Hope your headache is over soon. Take care.

DeNanner - They are from Charlotte(where I live). I use to have them on an entertaintment TV show I use to produce several years ago. They were unknowns then and use to ring my phone off the hook wanting to be on every week.
so happy for them.

Marianne - 🙂 People always look at me weird when I say ‘blerg’. he he he.

Ali - I LOVE the Avett Brothers – especially live. My husband and I saw them in Lawrence, KS a few years ago and it BLEW ME AWAY. Glad you had the chance to experience that too. And good luck to the Jayhawks in the tournament!! I’m sure your hubby and boys are getting pumped.

robyn - i love that you were at your Orpheum Theater last night, and I was at mine!

Shauna Howington - This is the best post I’ve seen all day! They are my all time favorite band and such a treat live! I knew you had great taste!!

thanks clorox….now onto the moving details!

IMG_7491-3

only one diaster from the move….
otherwise it all went very smoothly.
we had strong men step up and help us out….love it when people are willing to reach out and HELP.
and my sons were SO HELPFUL!
they surprised me big time at how strong and willing they were.

IMG_7473-1

we got all the beds set up and annie got cozy right away.
she loaded her bed with ALL the stuffed animals she owns!

IMG_7484-2
a very fun little extra to this house is this little room…with a tiny door.

IMG_7477-1

it's the perfect size for two little girls to play with all the bajillion littlest pet shops.
they go in and close the door and you can hear their little voices…..it's completely adorable.

the kids' rooms are pretty much set up.
our room is not.
we have too many clothes….way too many….we have to deal with that issue.
the kitchen is put together.
we had our first meal together in the house sunday night.

IMG_7681-17

we had friends and family bring by meals on saturday and sunday.
it was SO NICE!!
i was extremely grateful to not have to think about what to make for dinner
and all the cookies….oh Y U M.
i decided to ditch myfitnesspal for the weekend.  :)

IMG_7668-16

SERIOUSLY….this gift was to welcome us to our new home.
from new friends that we just met?!
i came inside and set it down and had a few tears of gratitude.
another confirmation that we have made the right choice.

we had been so busy with everything and then half our power went out and craig was working on that
i was so tired saturday night that i built our bed myself at 10:30 and put the sheets on and climbed in.
i slept like a R O C K.

the farmhouse is good.

and waffle is very excited about it too.

IMG_7554-7

Jenn - Congrats! AND I LOVE the glass jars full of colors (crayons). When my kids are older I will have those too! BUT, I have to know if YOU know – your crayon artwork is being highlighted on a main AOL page?! I guess they highlighted some pinterest accounts – and evidently YOU are one of the STARS! Which I already knew… but just wanted to make sure you know! Not sure where they were when you originally posted it, but better late than never!

Lori Austin - Thought about you all weekend and hoped the move was going well.
Broken mug 🙁
House warming gift 🙂
I bet Waffle is a happy, happy farm dog now.

danielle burkleo - so happy for you and your family, my friend!! i can’t wait to hear and see more about the farm house!!!

Rachel B. - I totally gasped OUT LOUD when I saw your broken mug.
Rejoicing with you all and the new move! May God bless your house richly!
p.s.-Love the bread with the “It’s a Wonderful Life” quote on the tag!!!!

Maria - Love the hidden room!
Boo for broken coffee mugs…
Housewarming cookies and baskets are the best!
I had a dream that we were getting ready to move (again in the dream, but we haven’t moved for almost 11 years!) We already (in non dream/real life) saw one we wanted, now if the people living there would just move out of it for us… 🙂
Have fun filling your new nest!

Tonya - haha…i am seriously cracking up that talby looks like a giant next to the tiny door!!! i’ve got an 11yr old and am so glad to know that mine isn’t the only one who writes on her arms and wears mismatched socks! 😉

Sarah{Handbags*N*Pigtails} - Oh I can totally relate to the broken mug problem because I ordered a set of them online and when they arrived, one was broken. I was so bummed but called the company and they sent me a replacement. But then when I opened the replacement pkg there were TWO! I love the Good Morning message. I keep one at school on my desk for those mornings I just cant live without a hot cocoa(Im not a coffee drinker).
Glad to hear everyone’s settling in to the new house well. I cant wait to hear more:)

Ashlyn@Pinecone - What sweetness!! Loving the little secret hideaway!
xo
Ashlyn

Krissy - So glad you got moved okay with only one casualty!!!! I love the girls’ little room, its too cute! Annie reminds me how I was when I was young, every single stuffed animal I had HAD to be on my bed. Or the monster that lived under it would get them. 🙁 Lol! She cracks me up. Have fun, and congratulations again! :o)

lacey poag - such FUN pics!!! I am so glad you are so at home in your new house…love from indiana 🙂

Amy @ www.littleforalittlewhile.blogspot.com - Aren’t secret little girl nooks just the greatest thing ever? My girl has one and we set it up as a play kitchen. Seriously one of the happiest rooms in our house! Can’t wait to see how you make the space your own.

Kelly - So glad you are done with the move and enjoying your new space. And that welcome basket from your new friends…. GOOSE BUMPS!!! That was so awesome and had to make you feel at ease. Have fun learning all the new sounds of your home…. something I’ll always remember from all of my moves. It’s amazing all the sounds each home has with it. Floors, water running, doors opening and closing, lights buzzing, cars passing, animals howling… A new chapter in your life. Enjoy the ride!

Denissa - How awesome! So glad that things went smooth and everyone is happy 🙂 your post has definitely made some things stir inside of me, thank you for that!
And thanks for Waffle’s silly picture last, made me smile 🙂

Pamela Gordon - Hi Meg. Congratulations on your move to a new house in the country! How fun it’ll be getting set up and decorating in your wonderful style. The kids will love the great space outdoors and that barn is awesome! All the best to you. Blessings ~ Pamela

Dani - A tiny room! How fun!
I was too excited to see a picture of your daughter with two different socks and writing on her arm! My daughter does the exact same thing! The socks I can deal with, but all that writing drives me crazy haha!
And you are amazing! I check for posts at least 4 times a day!

jennifer - So exciting! I can’t wait to see/hear more!

Laura Phelps - we were thinking about you all LOTS this weekend
not sure if it was a coincidence…but a running theme through out the weekend seemed to be that God and family are the ONLY things that matter. Nothing else.
SO happy to have your constant reminder of that for me.
Your family will never go hungry…you are too full of the RIGHT STUFF.
xo

Kerry - So glad I’m not the only one with an Odd Sock brigade 🙂
Sad about your Good Morning mug – loved that mug! But SO happy you are in your new home and loving it.
And that house warming gift….. Wowza’s!

Cindy - Enjoy the moments of settling in! And wow! What amazing and welcoming neighbors you have!

Lee Ann - Love that you are allowing the Lord to lead you on this adventure!

Analia - I Love your blog! Thanks for being you and sharing your love for life. Thank you for reminding me today that change is good. And no matter where your home is…the family is most important!

Holly - I just love a good farm house. I know God has good plans for you and I cant wait to see what they are!

Tiffany - I mostly don’t read comments, but Jacci’s was so sincere and sweet. Melt my heart. I just wanted to wish you all the best in your new place. And say, isn’t it great when things work out better than you had planned, just gives you a warm feeling inside. Hope you have a fabulous Monday too. Lata chica.

Katy @ Live Laugh Love Craft - This is going to be the most random, scatter brained comment ever. 🙂
Noooo, not the Good morning cup! 🙁 That thing was so cute!
LOVE that little room for the girls to play with their LPS! I so need that. Those things are all over our house!!
Waffle is so stinkin’ adorable!
And I love that your neighbors brought you that beautiful gift basket. So pretty and thoughtful. 🙂

beki - I ditched my fitness pal this weekend, too 🙂
I’m happy to hear that all is well. Been thinking about you all.

Jacci - Praise God! Prayed for you several times this weekend.
The Lord is shaking me up a bit, Megan. Making me see my sin of worldiness more clearly. It’s been so obvious in the last week. Honestly, your move was one of the ways He made me question my heart. WHY would I cling to someone else’s house??? I think your move scared me. We’re working so hard on the house we’re in… what if He called us to just walk away from it? What if I never get a *forever* house? (This is our 4th home in 12 years of marriage). It made me ask hard questions… and then I read Flower Patch Farmgirl for the first time… and her struggle is my own struggle. “If Jesus is not enough, something is wrong.” And something IS wrong! When a beat up bathroom steals my joy something is WRONG. I’m seeking His gifts more than I am seeking Him Alone. Your move is so, so good. It is so right in SO many ways. And I want you to know that the Lord has used you, and your move, and this blog, to show me some nasty stuff in my heart. And that’s a mercy. It’s a gentle chastisement. I praise Him for it.
And thank Him for using you.
Amen 🙂

tiffany gardner - looks like you have many blessings to come in that house!

Bobbie - half our power went off the day we moved into this house six months ago. We found that if we wiggled the light switches it would come back on. Kinda scary so after it happened a few times we called an electrician who found that our house has some weird (but safe) breakers and that was the problem. Sorry for the long drivel. I hope you get some rest today.

Kimberly Dial - So glad you’re all settled in! Bravo to your kind friends & neighbors who brought in meals & cookies … how nice! Enjoy your run in your new neighborhood!

Amy - Congratulations on a successful move, sweet new friends and happy hearts! Best wishes on your new adventure!

Regina - So very happy for you all…and I love that God already had good neighbors planned for you! 🙂 That photo of Waffle literally made me smile and LOL. He wears his happiness all over his body! Best wishes for the rental. We are in the same situation…still own a home in one state and are renting (for our first times ever) a home in a different state. Renting has proven to be a little depressing for me, but I’m hoping it won’t be that way for you. I just can’t do all that I’d want to do in the decorating arena. I honestly never thought it would bother me as much as it has, but then again, it’s only “stuff”, as you said, and it’s not forever. Enjoy every minute of the farm life! 🙂

Marianne - Looks lovely! Can’t wait to see pictures of the rest of the house once it’s set up!

Southern Gal - Oh, the Good Morning cup! Oh, well. There’s always another cup that can be bought. Looks like a sweet cozy home. That note on the bread made ME tear up. It’s a wonderful life indeed!

Amy - So happy for you Meg! And while I’m thankful for all the stuff I own and grateful to have had the money with which I purchased it…you are right, it’s just stuff. And not the important stuff in life. I don’t know if you already know this or not, but I saw a link to your blog on Huffingtonpost.com over the weekend. You’re going viral 😉

Holly - So…I have some intersting questions for you…how far is the farm from your old house? And how did you decide exactly what to bring…so that you have furniture in both houses, dishes/kitchen items…I am so confused! LOL! Did you bring all your craft things? Did you bring ALL your dishes? What about your couches? I mean, if you took them from the old house what will you sit on when you go back there and visit? I know my questions are lame, but I am curious how you decided what decorations and furniture and dishes to bring…
Congrats on your new home…I would like to move into your old one, thanks!!! It’s adorable!!!

Toni :O) - Awesome and welcome to your new home…hip hip hooray! :O)

Kim - Glad to hear that the move went well! The day we moved into this house, we had a knock on the door. And standing there was a sweet neighbour with a newborn, a two year old and a fresh baked pie. We knew we’d made the right choice. Good luck with all the unpacking.

karen - yay..happy to hear everything went well.

Marsha - Meg you and your family will love the new place! I am so happy for you all!

Joy - I see good memories for you in that house!

Jessi - A tiny room just for pet shop toys?? We. Need. That.
And that house warming gift…I cried when I saw the photo. So kind. I blame my pregnancy hormones.
Happy for you all…hope you get settled quickly 🙂

Alicia @ La Famille - ok so meg….i just moved again this weekend too! i moved from south dakota to asheville, nc in october. then we moved houses this past weekend. it was ummmm…fun?? my bestest friend becky (farmgirl paints) came from virginia with her family and they helped us moved and becky helped me fluff the nest. it was SOOO much fun. i love having great friends like that.
i love that you and craig took a leap of faith like that. i love that your girls have a little nook to hide and play in. totally precious! i felt like our decision to move to nc was totally crazy too, but we knew it was God’s will for us. sometimes you just know these things, you know? i’m sure you and your hubby didn’t make a hasty decision. i wish you blessings and happiness in your new farmhouse.
xo,
alicia @ la famille

Dana D@BoysMyJoys - love it!!!
especially the little room with the tiny door!!!

Hannah - I’m really sad about your mug:(

the domestic fringe - Ok, I must read back and back and back…I totally missed that you were MOVING! Did you house sell?? Never mind, I’m going back to read.
Glad the move went well and some lovely friends brought you goodies. That always helps.
~FringeGirl

deborah@applesinwonderland - We’ve toyed with the idea of a place further out into the country. Looking forward to peeking into how it all goes. Why is it that everyone has one thing break during a move? Not 47 things like I would think, but one thing. We were coffee mug twins. 🙁

Aby - So very happy that you’re happy Meg! You’ll love being in the country!! I know that you will make this house an incredible HOME! Wherever you are…with your family…is home. Enjoy the adventure!! xoxo

Seriously Sassy Mama - We are moving this summer back to the town where my husband and I grew up. It is bigger now, but I am excited to raise my children there. We are closer to family and friends. It is going to be wonderful!

Katie - We have a tiny door/room too in our house – it is my closet…low ceilings but it works to hang stuff up in and a simple shelving system on the wall. A playroom is great too! Kids need special things during times of transition. Looks like a good weekend. We are moving in 3 months! I am already feeling God’s grace!

Jen Brandt - I’m so happy for you, Meg!

Christy - Sounds like the new adventure is going well so far! Can’t wait to hear more.

Gemma - Glad you’ve settled in well! Can’t wait to see how you ‘Meg it up’ and make it colourful : )

i was right.

so i had some rather lame stuff happen today….

i gave the dog a bath in a cami and bike shorts (hello 1992 called and wants their shorts back???)
and i was completely soaking wet.
i followed waffle downstairs to take his picture of him SPAZZING out…..

IMAG0511-1 IMAG0512-2

just as i took that picture waffle looks behind me and barks like crazy.
i stand up
and the FedEx man was standing at my front door RIGHT BEHIND ME.
my front door is made of glass….and he saw me…and i didn't have on a bra and my clothes were dripping wet.
niiiiiiiiice.

i composed myself…showered and drove all the way to wichita (30 minutes) to the nearest target.
i filled my cart with things for CW and some groceries….and a cute cardi…of course.
i loaded everything out of my cart at the check out.
then i opened my purse and did not have my wallet with me.
and they said there was NOTHING they could do for me, even with my check book.
BLEH.
so i drove all the way back home with nothing done (another 30 minutes).
UGH…i was so mad at myself i felt sick to my stomach.

i came home and found that my dog had eaten all 5 of my protein bars i left on the counter.
and their wrappers.
not cool dog.

but….you know what….we made the watercolor hearts after school and it was completely relaxing.
just like i thought it would be.

IMG_6672-3

isn't that GORGEOUS!?!!!
that picture makes me a crazy amount of happy.

IMG_6668-1

IMG_6679-5
i had blown a fuse earlier in the day while vacuuming so we had no music on either.
it was just quiet.
my two little girls and i painted and talked.

IMG_6678-4

IMG_6670-2
i said "it's just so pretty!"
annie "mom….you should do this craft at craft weekend….the ladies coming would love it!"

sigh.
that girl is too. stinkin. adorable.

IMG_6690-8

IMG_6685-7

IMG_6682-1

talby was not sure if she was going to give her painting away or if we should frame it.
the jury is still out…her decision completely.
of course my vote is to frame it.
:)

ahhhhhhh….it was so nice.

i highly recommend sitting down and opening up a brand new set of watercolors
$3.44 (which thankfully i had purchased the day before!)
and painting a full page of hearts in  every color.
you will feel much better than when you started.

even if you had a pretty stupid morning.

which i did.

Rachael - Silly question, but where did you get the watercolors? They are so pretty?

Cheryl - What a great kids project! I’m so glad that my project inspired you! =)

melanie - well, i must say you recovered quite nicely. that’s a good takeaway for me b/c when i have a lousy day, it is hard to end well. i’m not a strong finisher. so thanks. 🙂

elisa - love it when dogs freak out. always makes me laugh 🙂

denise@victory rd. - without a bra!?!!!
no money at target?!!!
but you didn’t let that own your entire day. you allowed His mercies to be new in the afternoon.
colorful heart-shaped mercies. *love*

maggie - gotta love waffle, but gotta ask…is he constipated? lol!
Hearts are beautiful!

kb - you are such a good mommy!!!! wish I had more patience to do that stuff or was able to let go enought to deal with the mess. Maybe one day before they are grown and gone.

Mini Piccolini - Love this watercolor project! Had to share: http://minipiccolini.com/2012/02/its-friday-5/

Jeanene Snell - You are a good person. From what I read, I like your heart.

Amber L Peters - i love it! i will definitely be making that watercolor painting with my girl!
sorry about your crappy day!

Beth - I don’t think my comment came through yesterday, if it did, sorry for commenting twice! I love the Etc. shop too, haven’t made it yet since they reopened, can’t wait! Also, the watercolors you’re doing remind me of some I used for an art class inspiration, and I think you’d enjoy them: http://www.watercolorpainting.com/brush_exercise_thickthin.htm (click on all the links across the top – bands of color, wrist flick, painterly strokes, etc. to see the cool ideas). Also, a blog that has great art inspiration is daisy yellow, and here’s a neat watercolor study: http://daisyyellow.squarespace.com/vividlife/watercolor-line-work.html
Sorry about your trip to Wichita!

julie - I too was wondering where you got the pretty watercolors, but also the nice white paper? Thankful for you, thankful for your family and thank you for sharing all with us.

Salwar Kameez - love these pictures! The colors are so bright and cheery. The failed trip to Target is sucky, but the FedEx story is hilarious!

Lisa - Hi Meg! Sorry about the rough start to your day. My guess as to why they couldn’t take your check is that at Target they require a drivers license when writing a check (since everyone seems to be wondering about that!)
I only started reading your blog a few weeks ago, but love it so much that I went through the WHOLE BLOG and read ALL the archived posts. ALL of them. I feel like I know you and your family now, and that makes me happy, because I can tell what wonderful people you are.
You even inspired me to start my own blog and actually stick with it this time. (Granted, only 3 posts so far, but it’s progress). If you have time, check it out! http://lisajaklitsch.typepad.com/lisa-crafts-too/

Jennifer - Just precious! I say frame it!

Mindy Harris - YOU ARE SUCH A HOOT.
A.HOOT!!

Lindsey - Oh goodness, Meg. I too had a frustrating day but it was made better by the thought that I get to come to CW! WHOOP WHOOP! Painting rainbow hearts does sound relaxing. I cannot wait to come to CW and leave behind my petty woes! See you soon!

Anne - Love, love, love, love these pictures! The colors are so bright and cheery. I’m going to do this with my kids soon. The failed trip to Target is sucky, but the FedEx story is hilarious! 🙂

AshleyAnn - Cami & wet shorts. NICE. Have you seen Legally Blonde? You could have done that snap thing for the FedEx guy when getting up from taking Waffle’s picture…that would be awesome.

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - Mmmm…. I think I need a shiny new watercolor set. 🙂 Annie, I agree… they would LOVE it!

Alicia - I am sure the FedEx man thought it was funny! Can you imagine the things those guys see? Oh my! The hearts are so amazing. I am definitely trying this one tmr! We are headed to Target and new watercolors are in our cart! What is the paper you used? Is it heavy duty or anything special? Hope tmr your Target run will be completed successfully!

merlin - I did the heart painting. I am not crafty or artistic, but I could do this and it has brought me joy and peace. Thank you for sharing this activity.
Thanks also for sharing why not to have a glass door….maybe you made his day though.

Jolene (Homespun Heritage) - I am so sorry to say that I laughed very hard at your expense….you just can’t make this stuff up!
This a.m. the repair guy was here to fix my oven and while he’s tinkering away my toast oven goes berserk! Seriously, I think my appliances are possessed but we’re rebuking the mean ole devil out of our electronics…Sheesh…craziness abounds!

Amy @ www.littleforalittlewhile.blogspot.com - Those sweet little hearts would be sure to brighten anyone’s day. Super cute. Arriving at a store without my wallet is my biggest fear, as I too live 30 minutes from any noteworthy store. I am always switching from a diaper bag to my purse, and even with my baby who loves to dig my wallet out of both, I have always been prepared, thankfully! (knock on wood). The good thing is that you can smile about it, and it’s just another reason to head back to Target. Darn 😉

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - Im sure delivery men(& women) have THE craziest stories to tell…and yours wouldnt be the worst:)
I was sure you were gonna tell us that Waffle ate the hamster! I was all prepared to mourn & everything.
As for dogs and their appetites, thats what led to our fire(we had left a big Panera bag full of bread and bagels on the back of our gas stove; the beagle jumped up to get at the food and turned the gas burners on full blast. Lovely.

Kelly - I once walked to the grocery store with my baby in his stroller, got to the check out, realized I didn’t have my wallet, walked home to our apt. building, remembered I had left my “clicker” that opened both the gate and our garage door (my only way back into the apt.) with the management for repair and it had started to rain on my way home . . . it was just lovely. 🙂
I thought you blew an emotional fuse! Funny that it was an actual real one! I blew one at our new house using the microwave and hair dryer simulanesously. I called my dad for help and he was so puzzled as to why I’d be using both at the same time. 🙂 I can’t even remember now but I do know it made perfect sense at the time.
Happy Wednesday! Kelly

JustMommer - My own FedEx story this week. The tales they could tell.
http://itsjustmommer.blogspot.com/2012/02/hermione-made-my-heart-stop.html

Krissy - Firstly, im sure the FedEx guy has seen much MUCH more bizzare things/people. Secondly, i love the paintings. They are bright and happy. I just might do one for myself. Thirdly, I’m sorry your day got off to a rough start. 🙁 If i still lived there, I totally woulda loaned you the money. Wasting time drives me bonkers. 🙁 SO glad your day ended better. And thanks for making me smile, and reminding me of home, as usual! 😀

megan - hahahahaha
ha
and
naughty waffle!
we’ve come to realize that winnie is a naughty one, too….counter-food snatcher just like waffle.
that’s why God made ’em so cute!

Juli - You can rock a rainbow photograph better than any other blogger I know!

natalie - i hate when the target thing happens! ahhh so frustrating.
those hearts are totally awesome and i think i need to do that. circles would be cool too.
awesome.

alecia kleiner - I loved this post! Sorry for your wet t-shirt exposure, but it made for some serious laughs here in Seattle! Gorgeous hearts and we are so doing that today. It’s rainy and I need the inspiration.
blessings!

Gail - Meg, next time, call me. I live in Wichita and would love to meet you at Target and float you a loan. And then maybe we could hit Sonic for a slush.

jen - i am doing this this weekend! minus the wet dog, impromptu wet t-shirt contest, fedex man and forgetting my wallet of course!! haha.

Karen Gerstenberger - What is it about rainbow colors that makes us all feel so good?
It is what first attracted me to your blog…that, and the fact that my best friend had moved away from here to Kansas, and reading your blog helped me to get a little “KS feeling and perspective.” Thank you for sharing your REALITY, both the up, rainbow times and the no-wallet-at-Target-times.

Sarah b - I have had so many humiliating target moments. Most recent was thinking I’d left my phone in the front of my cart, driving back to target, asking if one had been turned in (no), and then the manager walked the whole parking lot with me. We searched and searched all the carts, she asked “why don’t you just check in your car?” and lo and behold, there is my phone in the driver’s seat, not even covered up by anything. Grrrrr.
I’ve also left my wallet at home, but they kept my bags at customer service and let me cone back and pay later (only 8 mins away). And I use checks there all the time! Bizarre!
Thank you for sharing your lame day with us. 🙂 CW will make up for it tenfold I’m sure!!! 🙂 🙂

Alice H - Why wouldn’t Target let you write a check? I thought they did checks electronically like Walmart does. That is nuts!! Love the hearts. I wonder if my 2 year old son would enjoy that!

Tara - Annie is totally right, CW ladies would love to rock some watercolor hearts. I would know 🙂 Miss your guts! Can’t wait to see pics from this weekend…

Jackie Kepner Barnum - Oh boy! I had the same kind of day you did yesterday. It is crazy how multiple things will break on the SAME day. The dog will take off with a bottle of cleaner and the lid pops off somehow and it goes all over the floor. Luckily I caught him before he drank any. But it all passes and hopefully we can laugh at it in the future. Hope you are having a great day today!

Alicia @ La Famille - i hate stupid days!! sorry 🙁 but your watercolor paintings ARE beautiful! frame. def frame!

4 Fab Franklins - That picture of Waffle’s teeth is just so cute! He made me smile. Meg, I’m sorry, but I totally lol’d at the FedEx incident…sounds like something that would happen to me. Those painted heart projects are 2 – 2 Cute!
My opinion, I heart shopping at Target, but they have weird policies. I would really Really like it if they would stop asking me if I’d like to sign up for a card.
Enjoy your day!

Marianne - ugh. What a horrible start to a day! THe heart paintings are gorgeous though!!!

Kristin Hayne - 1. waffle cheers me up, yet again…. thank you!!
2. I have done that…minus wallet thing a few times…. so frustrating i could cry. I hate wasting time
3. Gorgeous watercolor hearts…. adorable girls
4. Just think, you MADE that FedEx man’s week!!
5. Thank you for praying for me the other day. If actually felt my day brighten after that
6. You rock…. I am going to have to do a Craft weekend with you guys now. 🙂 So keep having them, OK?

shannon - it does look relaxing and very pretty! Our Target is also about 20 minutes away so I would be pretty mad at myself for forgetting my wallet but also a bit mad they wouldn’t take my check as well!
Glad the day turned out good in the end 🙂

Kim from Miracle-Round - Although your day started off rough, I’m glad it ended on a happy colourful note!
The wallet thing – ug! I’ve left the house with my wallet in my purse (and I was so proud of myself that I remembered to check) just to discover that my debit card wasn’t in my wallet because I’d left it beside the computer when I was paying bills. Not good.

Shar - i love this craft. leading up to valentine’s, i spent my time cutting out random hearts out of various shades of red and pink paper. it became a challenge to get the heart either perfect or not! was so relaxing and i didn’t feel like i was being unproductive while watching tv.
hope the rest of your week goes super!

tiffany gardner - OH…my fav blog girl…I’m so sorry. What a yucky morning! You are such an encouragement…after all that yuck…you still chose JOY in the end. Wow…thanks…I needed that!

sandee prince - ps- where did you find that cool watercolor kit? we always buy the cheapo crayola ones and they never last 🙁

sandee prince - I freakin love you. and i don’t even know you! you always seem to find the positive in every day. no matter how crappy it starts. (and not having your wallet at target is pretty crappy) 🙂
Happy Thurs Meg…. keep up the great blog!

Katherine @ Grass Stains - What a terrible way to start the day! I feel for you; that’s a long way to go, only to be so frustrated. But I’m so glad those watercolor hearts turned your day around. Beautiful!

Kim - Boo! What a lame start! But yay what a great turn around! Annie is right – that simple craft would be perfect for a quick change of cw pace! I love this craft – totally would have done it! 🙂 hope it’s a blast! Wish I was there!

Wendy - Oh Meg! I’m sorry about the rough start to your day. I had something similar happen to me at the grocery store too. Not fun! My husband is an airline pilot and we use the same credit card. Well, unknown to me, he used his the same exact time I tried to check out with $300 worth of groceries. The credit card didn’t go through of course. The credit company’s excuse was that they thought my card had been stolen since someone in Albuquerque, New Mexico had bought a Starbuck’s Latte and a burrito in the airport! I just had to laugh and wonder what credit card thief would just buy a coffee and a snack? I can laugh now, but at that moment I could have spit nails! Love the water colors, by the way! 🙂

Seriously Sassy Mama - I always fear laving my wallet. I check my person every time I leave the house. Cami and biker shorts made me giggle.

Susan - Love the hearts! We homeschool and I am always looking for something to do in the afternoon. We could do this together!

beki - your link to that print inspired a little sewing project for me. i haven’t started it yet, but i can’t wait. i think it’s just what i need to get out of my creative funk. thanks 😉

Lori Austin - I’m guessing the Fed Ex Man has seen a lot in his years of delivery. :-/
No wallet at Target totally stinks. I’ve done that at Walmart before with two kids in tow and a cart full of groceries. Just sat in the van and cried afterward with my poor kids wondering what the heck was wrong with me and why we left our groceries behind. Stinks!
Rainbow hearts and quiet time with your girls sounds like the silver lining to the day.

Jody - I want to do this w my boys…but whenever we do watercolors, the colors do not turn out very bright?! I must buy the cheapest I can find…we will try this!! So cute. A run to Target or Hobby Lobby is in order today..
(Laughed at your post today. I once was walking into Target and suddenly thought, “Oh my..did I change out of my PJ pants???”..and I didn’t even want to look down…but I did, and I had changed – whew!!!)
And the other day, the UPS guy came to our door & I looked just lovely – hair a mess, stickers all over me (from my boys) and frosting on my shirt from making cupcakes. Lovely, yes.

amy jupin - anna is completely freaking out over the hearts…
def gonna have to make that one asap.
and as for the fedex man…well…let’s just say our pest control guy has seen me at…not my best.
tank top with no bra and holey pj pants.
and with ben and buck trying hard to escape out the front door at the same time.
we all have those special people in our lives! 🙂
hope y’all have the BEST time this weekend!

kristiina - YES!! I’m not the only one who doesn’t have her wallet in the check out line…not that I’m proud of it. Just nice to know I’m not the only one LOL (so embarrassing) Thanks for sharing ALL of your life with us!

Amanda - Your blog has definitely turned into one of my favorites! I love seeing all your crafts, hearing your hilarious stories, and seeing pictures of Kansas (this Kansas born/Georgia transplant sure misses her home state!) Thanks for sharing your life with us!

Kimberly Dial - So sorry you had a bad morning (forgetting the wallet … been there … done that!) but I bet the delivery guy was happy! LOL Love the hearts … you give me the best ideas to do with my grandgirlies! Thanks! 🙂

Kristi Rediske - This may be crazy but why didn’t target take your check? I think ours still takes checks-maybe not though. Sorry you had a crazy day-but it sure ended nice-thats what counts (easy for me to say) Have a better day today!

Whitney - 🙁 I didn’t have a great day yesterday either and today it’s rainy and cold.
I just wanted to sleep in this morning. ALH decided that she wanted a bottle at 2 a.m. and wanted to play with me after that. We were up until 4, my husband has leave by 5 … Rough Morning to say the least!
Just reading this post made me smile. Thanks so much! I need to get me some water color paints 🙂

PrairieJenn - Ahhh…nothing like art therapy after a rough morning!
We’ll be doing those hearts for sure:)
Yay! Thanks for sharing.

Heather Crawford - Oh my…THAT was hilarious..I would have died!

Victoria - Oh me, oh my, what a morning! I’ve definitely had those kinds of days.
Your watercolor picture makes me happy to look at too! I will definitely have to do this with my 6 year old. She LOVES to paint and I do find it therapeutic to sit and paint with her. 🙂

Megan - Why wouldn’t Target let you use your checkbook?! Strange.
So sorry about your rough morning but the beautiful hearts definitely made me smile! Love!

Catherine - so sorry about your wonky day… we definitely have all been there. 😉
will you share where you got the tray of watercolors with the 3 rows? we’ve only used the crayola and rose art ones and i think we’re ready for an upgrade! especially if we decide to do the heart project! it’s fabulous! thanks, megan!

Colleen - Love the watercolor hearts. I think we’ll try it today. We’ve all had the Target moment. I once sent my husband to the grocery store with a gift card that turned out was all used up. He didn’t have his wallet and was mortified. Not his happiest day.
I’m wondering how much money I would save if I was 30 minutes away from Target?

Kimberlee Jost - That watercolor pic needs to be blown up to a canvas HUGE.
It’s beautiful.
As are you…even with a “stupid morning”.

Cheryl E. - Had a similar kind of day except that our 14 year old dog (8 lb Yorkie named Chase) ate 16 Hershey Miniatures and 1 Tootsie Roll – – – wrappers and all. Had to take him to the vet. Let’s just say he is confined due to all his “digestive issues” Gotta laugh at these moments!! 🙂

THE FED EX MAN - thanks for the cami and shorts yesterday. You made my day.

Laura Phelps - I have written in my prayer book, scribbled actually, at the top of a page…”STUPID MORNING”
SERIOUSLY
yesterday morning here was BEYOND ridiculous…and I fell into the pew at mass and wrote “stupid morning”, thinking it would be my blog post title that night!
I never wrote it because the morning was THAT bad (think Nick out of town for 2 WEEKS, car that wont get up an icy driveway at 6:30am, kids I can’t get to school, kind of BAD)
BUUUUUUUUUUUT…
lovin’ the paints
A LOT
I copied your butterfly on canvas and it was a success
me thinks I might do this too
Im a follower, not a leader…
love that you blew a fuse too
and the only thing more ridiculous then you in a wet cami and shorts, would be if you were also wearing roller skates…OR
if WAFFLE was wearing the cami and shorts…
on roller skates
AND…DOGS! I am new to this ownership of a dog thing…and my dog is chewing EVERYTHING!
not cool
thank God she is so darn cute.
and now I am done
sorry
this is long
but I have been a sINGLE PARENT FOR NEARLY A MONTH AND I AM LONELY FOR CONVERSATION!!!!!!
sorry about the caps there
not intended
ok
all for now
off to the bus stop
have a great day and don’t forget your wallet 😉
love you

happygirl - You made the FedEx guy’s day, you know. Just sayin’

Michelle From Australia - 1. Don’t TARGET know you are F.A.M.O.U.S????
2. I love Talby’s hearts. Just gorgeous. That is both Talby and the hearts 🙂
3. If Talby wants to auction her heart art with proceeds to WHATEVER (pun intended) charity she choses, I’m happy to open the bidding.
Good night!

Sally - Oh Meg, I had the exact same thing happen to me on a trip to Target. Only I was 9 months pregnant at the time, and on my way out to the car empty handed, a stranger yelled at me from across the parking lot, “UH OH!!! LOOKS LIKE SOMEBODY NEEDS SOME ICE CREAM!!” Really lame. Love your beautiful heart paintings!

Terrie G - the ONE thing I don’t like about our house…glass doors! front & back!!
And those hearts… I <3!!!

Leah - Target wouldn’t let you write a check?! That’s lame! I’m sorry, but I too, was laughing about the FedEx guy and Waffle the crazy dog. Sorry the day started out crazy. But sounded like it ended on a very relaxing note. And I’d totally frame Talby’s picture.

Heather D. - Very bad day, but the hearts and colors are sooooo bold and beautiful!

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Oh my, that definitely qualifies as a bad day. I was giggling out loud about the Fed Ex man 😉

Dana @ Bungalow'56 - I bet the FedEx man figured he had a pretty good day : )
Dana

Amber @poshideas.com - I’ve so been there standing like an idiot without a wallet. I Hate that! My ladies would absolutely love to paint hearts! So pretty. Glad your day had some redeeming qualities!

a whole bunch.

annie was just eating a ham sandwich and shouted "MY TOOTH FELL OUT!!!"
ha ha ha
she is hoping for a thousand dollars from the tooth fairy….
the dreams big.

🙂

Diana Dickert - They’re one good couple! LOL! Your dorks are adorable. And it’s funny that she shouted that her tooth fell out. Hahaha!

kids T shirts - Love your pictures,I miss my doggilie it’s my dog’s name.Since I work in the city I need to left him in my mother’s house.Miss my doggilie so much.

Connie - Ok, I am in love with your dog. Yes, I have a wonderful dog of my own… but there is just something about Waffle that makes me want to let him lick my face, something I never let Spooky do! =)

Jill - LOVE her brown eyes! DREAMY!
Waffle is adorable too.
Ummmm, think I would PULL one of my teeth for $1000!! Okay…NOT really…

Denissa - Cutest dorks ever! 🙂

Julie - Something about Annie reminds me of Ramona Quimby. Remember that Beverly Cleary book? She just seems like she has a lot of spunk 🙂

deborah@applesinwonderland - FYI, “dork” means whale penis. I still use that world everyday– and I’m not a marine biologist. Just useless information that is taking up way too much room in my brains. 🙂

Anna Marie - She is really starting to look like Talby 🙂

Sugar Mama - awww… they are like my labradoodle and daughter together 😉 So cute, sweet, playful and funny… a perfect pair!

jamie - i {heart} waffle. he has such personality.

Leah - Tell the Tooth Fairy to stop here if she’s giving out $1,000. And my dogs are looking at this blog post, so jealous of Waffle right now. They can’t understand how he gets candy corns and they don’t.

Valerie@Chateaualamode.typepad.com - Love the pictures of two very adorable dorks!

Tracey - awww what cute dorks!

leslie @ topofthepage - i’m glad to see someone else uses the word “dork” as a term of endearment too. they are both super cute.

brian - what a cute pic a girl who loves her dog!

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - She does dream big! Yay Annie!

Mindy Harris - i love seeing your globes in the background. i have 7 now!

Anita - Is it weird that I LOVE Waffle? just saying

Brandi - Wandering if her pants are from Naartije? You need to check out their girl stuff, it’s dreamy. Oak Park in KC has a store. Great pics.

Heather - You don’t want to hear this, I know. But…..Annie is looking older. Something about her face is changing. So adorable!

happygirl - Wow, my kid is 24 and for that kind of loot, I’m afraid he’d get a pliers and start yanking. 🙂

BriBedell - Seriously. The cuteness! Btw, do you have instagram??

Shannon - they are so cute! i need to show our doodle Maverick, these pictures. seriously, these two might be siblings! 🙂

karla @ bluegrass jewelrydesigns - I’ll definitely be pulling some teeth for $1000.

TinaM. - Once my daughter lost 2 teeth at the same time and I told {I mean asked} the “toothfairy” to leave $5.00. “She” left $ 5.00 per tooth !!! Yikes. p.s. we have a new mini goldendoodle.. you should check him out 🙂

Jenna@CallHerHappy - Crossing my fingers for Annie 😉 My uncle once left money under my cousin’s pillow in a sleepy moment. My cousin ran downstairs yelling the next morning, “The tooth fairy left me 20 bucks!” oops.
Jenna
callherhappy.com

Kimberly - What wonderful dorks you have!

Jodi @ The Un-Soccermom Blog - cutest dorks ever!
$1000?? If that happens, let me know.. . I’ll pull a tooth and be right over!! ;o)

denise - ah, I just posted pictures of my dog too.

Mary Susan McConnell - Soo cute! Love these pictures!

winner for the family rules poster!

Love love love this! We are working on a family mission statement and this is a GREAT place to begin. Also would make a wonderful gift. My pastor just moved into a new house and they have small children – perfect housewarming gift! So glad you shared.

happy weekend to you.

Lisa Ryzenga - Ha! Just came across your blog. We have a goldendoodle too. he recently got his haircut and looks just like your dog. Its so short and he acted like such a spaz too!!! Good to know it wasn’t just our dog:)

Janina - Hi!
I’m a silent follower of your blog. You are a beautiful photographer and this post inspired me to draw. Check out the sketch I did of your Waffle on my blog. Thanks for the inspiration! Keep up the awesomeness. 🙂

Verdopple Deine Dates - I looked around your blog and you’ve got some good content and I was thinking our readers would both find value. Thanks!

Ashley - These pictures are great! I’ve been lurking at your blog for almost a month. Your life seems amazing.
I tried to find an FAQ or something where you mention what type of camera or lens that you use. I’m saving up for a new lens! Do you have any suggestions?
Happy Thursday-
Ashley

Di - made micah and me smile…it will just take him a little while to “own” it. 🙂

amy d - lauren cracked me up the other day of fb when she said “the more boys i meet, the more i love my dog” 🙂

Dylan - ehehehe, so cute!

Jaime A. - Meg – I’ve been reading your blog for a few years now… and the pup crush is still as strong as ever.
i heart oh-so-much one Waffle the Wonder Dog.
=)

Jill - AAAAwwwwwwww, I love him!

elisa - love him

Cranky Catholic - Dogs don’t have sweat glands, so why do you shave him?

Kelly - I LOVE your Waffle. He’s adorable and doesn’t seem like a dork at all. He fits so perfectly into your family. I love when he’s in your family pics!

Jessica Johnson - dorky dogs are THE greatest. also i changed my blog name to my ardent life. no? ok…

Doris - Gave you Versatile Blogger Award, in my new post!

Laura - I have a Waffle too – except mine is a girl and her name is Bailey and she too is a freak when she gets her hair cut, and usually eats something in the house she is not suppose to. She usually does not get in that kind of trouble! I am assuming Waffle is a goldendoodle, which is what Bailey is also.

Lori Austin - Love the waffle pics. He’s such a cute dork 🙂

Tania k - I gotta say your Waffle posts are MY favorite. He is too darn cute!

karen - oh i could just nuzzle in that neck of his!!!

Lora ~ Charmed - he’s handsome.

tara - I just got my hair cut and colored this morning, and I’m a dork, too! … a total goober.
feels good to go short again, but I feel totally naked…..
so, I’m with Mr. Waffle.

crystal - He’s so cute. My dog Elphie is like that when she gets a shave. Sort of insecure about the way she looks, yet happy to be rid of the heat and weight of fur. Dogs are awesome.
See you next week for the last round of our summer palooza! Can’t wait.

Jolene (Homespun Heritage) - I have always wanted to name a dog Waffle…but you beat me to it! What a cute goober!

Penny - Love seeing Waffle. Aren’t Goldendoodles the best! Our Sophie is such a goofball. When we cut her bangs so she can see she just looks and acts so silly. Waffle is such a sweetheart. You can see it in his eyes. Enjoy him.

Holly - Waffle is too cute!
Congrats to the winner! I ordered the family rules poster yesterday! I can’t wait to get it!:)

Karen - What a cute dog! My pooch would never sit still long enough for me to get multiple pictures of him!

Ashlyn@Pinecone - I love all your pictures of waffle – animals are so silly 🙂

Jen L - He makes me happy!

Jenna@MomofManyHats - Awkward dog! Love it 🙂
Jenna
momofmanyhats.blogspot.com

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - Hes still so cute, even after his cut. And Im not even a big dog person(we have a big fat beagle whos super loyal and a great dog; its just me:))

Jen - Maybe it’s not the haircut…but the camera in his face. 🙂
Purely a joke, as my dog is completely embarrassed after her haircut.

Tracey - awww waffle! You look so purty!

Mindy Harris - waffle i would so mangle you in real life. u r too cute.

Elizabeth - So silly! Our standard poodle, Valentine, is exactly like that when she gets a serious cut. It’s almost as if the air finally hits her skin and she just can’t take it!

Melissa - Can we trade dogs? Please?

ann - such a cutie!
Does he shake and shake and shake his head when he gets a haircut? My Golden Doodle did and he got nasty blood clots in the ears and they felt like frozen peas. It was icky. Now I just keep his coat shortish all the time to avoid the dreaded matting.

Leah - He is so cute? Where does Waffle sleep?

Toni :0) - Haha I absolutely love your Waffle doggie! Dogs are just plain cool!!

happygirl - Wow! Your dog has such WHITE teeth. LOVE how dorky he looks.

Pamela Gordon - I love your dog Waffle. I think he’s so cute. Tell him Marshall says HI!

BriBedell - Ha!! It’s like you have two dogs!! Shaggy Waffle & Sheek Waffle!

Lori Winger - Our golden doodle, Lily, who wears her hair long and wavy, got a hair cut this week only because she got sprayed by a skunk! She is mortified (so were we, PU).

Sharla - Don’t they look so little after their haircuts?! We have never given our goldens a haircut, but we used to do it to our dogs when we were little and she always got so embarrassed and hid under the bed for a couple days. LOL!

Julie - That is so funny…my dog is a total weirdo too after she gets a haircut! One time we got her haircut so short, it really took her a couple days to start acting like herself again. She was all mopey and quiet. I think she must have really hated it!

Anj - Ha, so funny… I saw the title of this post and even before I scrolled down to the photo I knew it was going to be about Waffle the wonder dog. Cute! Must have dog on the brain… 🙂

Eleanor Rae - Hahaha, I’ve just found your blog and this post made me laugh so much. I just love that he ate the candle! What a silly billy! Great blog, I’m really enjoying reading it! Love Eleanor xxx thatisthisandthisisheaven.blogspot.com

Jessica @ These Are The Days - Great pics. I’m embarrassed to say I was about to write…”my kind of cake”, since I LOVED waffles but since it was meant for a dog…:)

Sheryl - What kind Of dog is waffle?!? He’s so cute!

Melanie - I’m not even a dog person and I loooove Waffle! Every time I see a picture of him, I want to reach through my screen and give him a big hug! He is one of the cutest dogs I’ve ever seen. I love how you gave him a plate of waffles for his birthday. 🙂 My nieces are here with me this weekend and I just showed them Waffles’ pictures and of course, they were both “awwwing” over him. Happy birthday, Waffle!

Jodi - Those pictures cracked me up! I needed that! Too perfect that he ate the candle!Happy Birthday Waffle!!! If he’s 3 in dog years that means he’s really 21 in human years. Hope he doesn’t sneak out to the bars this summer! 😉

crystal b. - Oh Meg, you are such a kindred spirit. LOVE these photos. 🙂 When next we see eachother in person, I’ll have to tell you the story of my friend who’s mom used to throw a neighborhood dog birthday party. It was hilarious. It inspired me to throw parties for my own pets. When I lived with my Aunt, we had them for her cats each year, and her kids thought that was the coolest thing ever.
You are such a fun mom.

aj - whipped cream & sprinkles are very bad for doggies! be careful there 🙁 we splurge and get doggie ice cream, great little treats! i think it’s called frosty paws.. peanut butter flavor might not taste too bad, because I may or may not have tried it 🙂
happy birfday waff-dog!

merlin - over at Pioneer Woman’s blog is your face, yep your mug on the side bar…….so many celebrities, so little time to follow you all!

He will be 3 in October so i will have to make him a dessert this year. Oh and my cat will be 12 on Sunday so we will do something for her too! Love that he ate the candle…silly boy!

I love waffle, he’s so cute and reminds me so
much of my sweet dog!
tara

Kerry - aaah what fun!! He does not like cherries – check! too cute man xx

Amy jupin - happy birdoo waffle, the wonder dog!
yea for craft weekend!
🙂

Debbie - This is hilarious! What a fluffy dog – beautiful.

happygirl - HILARIOUS!! I would never let my dog eat that. He’d have diarrhea for a week. I’m glad you took pics. And HAPPY Birthday Waffle. My dog is 17 years old and in dog years, that REALLY old.

Valerie @ Chateau A La Mode - Hi Meg, that Waffle is one spoiled doggie. My dog can’t eat people food like waffles she would have some messy problems after that if you know what I mean 😉 She’s definetly a dorky dog!

Cindy - Love it! I have to say, I think this is the best birthday party ever!

Debby - That is SO funny!!!!!

amy b. - ok,it took me a minute, but I get it,waffles for waffle! So cute! Hope the candle situation turns out ok!

Lisa - That is so great. It made me smile big 🙂

Sandy - That is awesome! I still say you are mom of the year! What dog wouldn’t love that?!

Pamela Gordon - I love Waffle! He’s such a sweet dork! I wondered what was under the topping and, of course, it was waffles. Very cute idea!

Terrie - Seriously, the candle? And here I was worried about him eating the pit in the cherry!

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - Aww…hes so spoiled!:) Better not let our beagle see this post or he’ll be expecting the same.Haha:)

Southern Gal - What a great way to celebrate a doggy birthday!

Tam - Happy Birthday Waffle! I would love, love, LOVE to spend a weekend with you and other crafty women 🙂

Lauren - Adorable 🙂 What kind of dog is waffle? My fiance and I are planning on getting a dog in the next year or so and he’s just so darn cute!

how can this be?

how can 13 years have passed since i gave birth to this boy?

he was born ON mother's day.
with out drugs.
just me, craig and dr. saleh quietly in my little tiny room.
they both cheered me on and told me "you're doing great" and "you're almost done".

it was the calmest of all of my birthing experiences.

IMG_1615-3

which is funny because he was the least calm baby of the five.
he cried for the first two weeks non stop.

IMG_1617-4

he was my second baby.
my first boy.
my baby that threw up and threw up and threw up.

i switched him to cow's milk at 6 months old after my mom suggested it.
literally from that very bottle…..
he never threw up again.
after 6 months of non-stop reflux it was GONE in one day.
i had to switch doctors because she was up in arms about the dangers i was causing him.
sorry lady….you aren't the one cleaning up this kid 20 times a day…..he's cured.
see ya!

IMG_1613-2

he taught me to notice things like trash trucks and construction sites.
we used to drive to a construction site and park there and watch while we ate a happy meal.
i can still name every construction vehicle and tell you what it's for.

IMG_1621-5

IMG_1612-1

and he asked a lot of questions.
A LOT.

IMG_1623-6

sigh…….i miss that little boy.

because who is this man that is living at my house?
eating non stop?
talking with a low voice?
wearing giant shoes?
worrying about how his hair looks and if his breath is ok?????

IMG_1543-3

IMG_1603-9

IMG_1535-2

IMG_1533-1

IMG_1553-4

IMG_1556-5

IMG_1558-6
waffle is always a scene stealer…..

IMG_1586-7
those ginormous candles were from party city.
they are fun!

IMG_1592-8
i made it a KU cake…..but honestly….no one cared.
boo.

the older they get the less exciting the birthdays are.
and the more OLD i feel.

he was a sweet baby.
a fun kid.
and a funny high energy young man right now.
i love to watch him play ball.
i like to listen to him to talk to his dad about basketball (95% of what he talks about during his waking hours)
i think he is going to be an awesome adult.

how cool is parenting?

we get to birth them, feed them, care for them and then watch them grow up and become adults?!
it's crazy.
and awful.
and humbling.
and HARD.

but still so very cool.

happy birthday SON.

i hope it's as BEAST as you are.

his real birthday is today but he will be at a track meet all afternoon and evening so we celebrated early.

Lisa Currie-Gurney - HUGS FROM MY HEART FRIEND

Christina - This made me cry! He does look so old in the present day pics! Hope his day was a happy one (it sure looks like it was)!

danielle burkleo - be still my heart. this makes me so excited and a little bit sad about my boys reaching that stage. but mostly just excited. i love this. what a handsome son – happy birthday!!

Nichole Kopp - My son turned 13 the last week in April. All I could think about was when he was three. He would put his stuffed elephant in his bike basket and ride up and down the sidewalk on the bike he called “steady ears”. His big blue eyes, blonde hair sticking out of his bike helmet. And now? He rides his bike across town and down trails. And his big blue eyes glare at me when I ask him to wear a helmet. Where does the time go? Happy Birthday to our “little boys”. At least they still let us hug them…. when nobody is looking.

Kat - He is gorgeous as a little boy and now too.
Cracked up when I saw the beast top. Lol. Bet that was a hit.
Personally I love your cake and I love, love, love that like me you get so sentimental about each birthday and each year of growth.
It’s what makes us love being Mums and helps us to appreciate it all.
So many mixed emotions and feelings huh?

Sarah - That is one GOOD LOOKING kid.
I love how you listened to your mom and yourself, and not your doctor….I think us moms need to do that more.
Why do your cakes always make me salivate???

Kerry Wiebe - Cow’s milk ROCKS!!!!

Tess S. - My oldest is 4 (going on 34). My husband was upstairs putting the “big” kids to bed and I snuggled the babe to sleep on the couch while watching Glee. It was the prom episode and for the first half I kept thinking about my own proms. All the fun I had and all the emotions that went into it. And then I looked down at my sleeping baby and realized she’ll be going to prom. She’ll have all those feelings. And I have 2 others that will be going through it too. It was a very REAL awkward moment. Parenting in hard. And I’ve only just begun.

Wendy - Happy Birthday! You’ve done a great job I’m sure Meg! Funny, when I saw the first pic of the cake you posted, I thought, “What a tiny cake for 7 people.” Then I saw the next pic…. WOW.. those candles are huge! My little man is 19 this month, it does go by so fast. I remember the names of all of the Thomas the Tank Engine trains and the construction vehicles he loved so much. Times change but I’m so thankful that our memories stay the same, they’re only added to. 🙂

Beth - Mine are growing so fast also…but I did plan mine little different than most moms…lol.
He sure is a cutie! Happy Birthday!

elisa - Right there with ya sista!

Amy Lynne - It was my youngest boy’s birthday too! I hope you all had a wonderful day!

Deanna - My son just turned 12 on Sunday and I have the same feeling – How can this be? They grow so fast! Beautiful post and Happy Birthday to your handsome boy!

Ellie Perez - Aw, beautiful post…I had one of those upset tummy ones too! We did goat milk….after 6 months of seeing every doctor we could find. Chiropractor suggested it and she was great after 2 days! who knew!

Toni :O) - GREAT post! Our boys are only seven months apart in age…crazy! I’m like, I had that same sippy cup for my boy too! I, like you, am amazed at the big feet, but I get “don’t touch my hair” and unlike yours…mine talks about cars, cars, cars in his wakeful hours….nonstop, it’s all about cars-makes, models, colors, types. The boy loves to just ride in the car so he can check out all the other cars on the road! If he doesn’t design cars for a living when he graduates from college, he’ll be some type of engineer for the automotive companies! Good times I tell you! Happy Birthday to your amazing son…boys are awesome, it’s so fun raising a baby boy to be a young man!!! Woot Woot!

Yaz - I am crying. Mine is only 4 and he is soooo fun.. so cute and loving and I am only having one. I cant believe he will be all big and will leave me one day. I swear Ive cried for 20 minutes thinking about it.
You have a great family. Thank you for sharing.

Stefanie A. - oh gosh… this post made me cry. My boy is 6 years old and I feel these days fast approaching. But some days I feel like his teens will never get here and then I remind myself not to long for those days – they’ll be here before I know it AND I’ll wish for the 6 year old days back. Ha! Did I just confuse you? Loved this post and your son is turning into one handsome dude!

Nana - He got that crying business from his dad (I remember it well!), but my theory is that each child has one bad spell and I’d rather it be the first few months of their life than when they’re older. He’ll probably be as easy-going as his dad which will be a real blessing for you.

Amy - I had a *really* tough time when my son turned 9 in January!
http://lifeasamomma-ksmomma.blogspot.com/2011/01/gavin-is-turning-9.html

Kirsten J - Happy Birthday Scott! My big boy is off at college *sniff* – the time does fly. And when I do his laundry, I often wonder how those socks are being worn by toes I used to kiss….BTW, love the cake!

Jen - Just entering the “construction vehicle” phase with my 2-y-o son, who demanded I let him drive a truck today… and was incensed that I didn’t comply. Seeing pictures of your son from baby to handsome teen are making me cry. I can’t bear to think of him being a teenager!
Looks like a great day… even if it is hard to believe it happened.

se7en - Oh Happy Birthday, May your year be totally cool!!! We love living with our 13 yr old!!!

Heather R. - I love the KU cake…Rock chalk! I love the picture of him smiling with “beast” t-shirt and the first one with Waffle. 🙂 I have two girls 10 and 11. I’m not ready for them to get ANY older.

Melinda - My son just turned 13 too! I also had no meds when he was born and he also had horrible reflux. I also put him on cow’s milk under the advice of the pediatrician that delivered me and it worked. Who would’ve thought? Best kid…15 year old daughter = much more drama! Happy Birthday to your son! I love your blog!

Staci - Happy Happy Day to Your Scott!!!! He looks like an awesome kiddo 🙂 and I thought the cake was great! They’ll appreciate in about 15 years 😉

Rachel B. - You two have some beautiful kids! Thanks for sharing and encouraging other moms like me 🙂

Rach - All I can say is “go mom!” How awesome is it when a seasoned mom comes up with the solution over a licensed pediatrician. I love to hear that stuff.

Courtney Walsh - the picture of him on the bike remind me of where my son is right this second and remind me to stop wishing it away so quickly. He’s in the question asking stage and I admit, I’m not always the most patient with my responses!! Love these photos!! He’s such a handsome young man!

Karen Gerstenberger - These are precious reminiscences & photos – the best kind of birthday card. Happy birthday to your precious guy!

Tanya H - Well I was sniffly reading your post and then the comments made me worse. 😛 My {oldest} baby is about to turn 9 on me and I can’t even handle it. LOL. My baby loved trains and every peice and part and what they do. I miss that so much, even tho he’s so fun to have conversations with at this age. sniffle… Scott is such a handsome guy. Good for you and thanks for taking us all on this journey with you.

Kate @ Songs Kate Sang - Born on mother’s day! How cool is that?!

Ann R. - First, I have to laugh because my son too is turning 13 – on the fourth of july! I think I notice the original CM letters used in your scrapbooking – looking back those pages back then seem so archaic don’t they? I too am like what…..how did you get all this hair on your legs, you are so not a soprano anymore and well you are taller than both grandmas and soon are going to pass up your dad and I – crazy! Congrats, I swear doesnt it just seem like yesterday I was worried about raising him up in this crazy world (after 9.11) that he was in preschool. I am sure you can relate. I feel as if from 4th to 7th grade just went in the blink of an eye! Enjoy his thirteeness. I read you EVERYDAY and I am so glad you had the lets say gumption to discuss what we all want for mothers day so freely. I have participated in your vitamins to africa, laughed and cried with you and love you are so real. I can so relate to you that you make my not so great days feel like I can get thu anything cause we are all in this together!
Take care – Ann

Courtney R. - My little guy will be 3 tomorrow…he was born on Mother’s Day too!
I love your blog and look forward to reading it every day!

steph - oh gosh….
you so will NOT want to hear this,
but he looks so much older than 13.
yikes!
he looks closer to 15.
sorry!!
he always seem so mature when you talk about him too.
maybe that’s the difference.
he doesn’t seem like the atypical teenage boy.
he seems like the ‘i’d like to hand pick him for my 12 year old girl’.
ha! that’s if i had a 12 year old girl.
7 year old… yes.
would he mind the age difference?!?!
ha ha ha h!
just kidding.
he is handsome and i hope he has a very blessed year!
your cake is awesome! 🙂

Kelly - I don’t think it matters if his hair is messed up or his breath smells like broccoli, you’re going to have girls lined up for that handsome dude!
And I thought the cake was cool! 🙂

Christi Hoffman - My second baby and my only boy, =/ is going to be 13 in June. I have been longing for the past days when he would run to me, screaming “mooommmy”! after every.single.day. of school until he was in 4th grade. Boo. He still comes home to me but, the scream has turned into, a cool deep voice, “hey Mom check this out today”….. I just listen, look into his bright brown eyes and wonder where in the world did my 4 pound 17 inch premie go? He is going into middle school next year, he is 135lbs & 5’6”. sigh. I am going to make him a KU cake too. He LOVES KU, my husband and him talk “shop” all.day.long. Maybe I should make a k-state cake…they would notice THAT! HA.

Marcella - I married young and had my oldest at 19. He’s turning into a young man now-headed for 10 years before too long.
It’s a bit scary to see him broadening out but he’s also getting more mature which is nice.
Happy son raising!

Laura Phelps - similar post over at my place 🙂
WHY DO THEY CONTINUE TO GROW??????????????????????
and eat
I hate that they eat so much
I can’t afford to feed them
nursing was cheaper

Ashley - Happy birthday to your boy! And I just wanted you to know that I LOVE your KU cake. It made me smile :o)

stephanie - You’ve got a heart-breaker on your hands with that handsome boy!!

Stephanie - And what a handsome young man he is!! I’ve got a 13 year old girl in the house who is pretty amazing too. However I just realized in the past few months that I know NOTHING! She on the other hand knows EVERYTHING!!! Good times I tell you, good times! This too shall pass right????

karen - Happy birthday Scott! Is it weird that I am looking forward to my kids growing up?? They are 3 1/2 and almost 1…and I just love seeing them be more independent.
Who knows…i may be eating my words in years to come.

Amy James - I was reading this at work and an audible cry slipped out. My baby boy just turned 23. Where did that little boy go? I miss him so much but I do love the man that is here as well. We have so much fun together and he will sometimes let me hold him and sometimes if I am really lucky he will slip and call me Momma like he used to when he was little, instead of Mom.
I also switched to cows milk at 6 months for the same reasons. I thought the sky would fall at first and everyone I happened to mention it to was so upset but he was able to keep something down for the first time and he grew. Other than the 3rd eye, I think he is perfect! 🙂

Jen Brandt - What a good lookin’ kid! Better watch out, Mama!

Catriona - I mean Whateversary. As if that’s even a word…

Catriona - Love this post! My first-born, a boy, is 6 next week and the thought of him ever being 13 feels like a lifetime away. I think the hilarious post with all Scott’s questions was the first ‘whatever’ I ever read. That means it’s my first Whatverversary!

Alice H - Where did you find the BEAST shirt? My 10 year old must have one. He says it non-stop!! Happy birthday and I would have been impressed with that cake!

LittleMissAwesome - I must say, your cake looks VERY yummy. One time my sister had a pony on her cake, and she didn’t want to eat the horse! It was in the freezer for months.
:]
He looks so adorable as a baby :} chubby cheeks! awww! :3

Gemma @ Musings of a gem - He is soooo handsome! Lovely : )
Gemma x

Camille - I just went to hug my 5 year old…

Hannah - just what i needed to hear…that it goes by soooo fast. my little guy is turning 4 tomorrow and i can’t believe it. and he is a question asker….which i have to admit….sometimes i just want quiet…while he is asking me questions about things i don’t know the answer to…like toilets and electricity and trucks and bugs….but you reminded me that it will be gone before i know it! 🙁

Cutzi - This brought tears to my eyes. What is it about little girls? They almost seem grown up from the minute they’re born. But boys? My son is going to be 6 next month but he still often seems like my little boy. I know he will grow up some day but I’m happy waiting as long as possible.

Karen - I, too, have a Mother’s Day baby. Isn’t that the best Mother’s Day present? Her birthday is the 9th and she was 29 yesterday. You have a handsome young man – Happy Birthday to him!

Ashlyn - The cake is great…the kid is great…watching them get older is… hard!! My baby is turning 13 in a couple of weeks too -sigh!! xo

Leah - I care about the cake. That’s the BEAST!

giozi - Congratulations!! Happy Birthday 🙂
You have a handsome guy.
My little chubby is single yet 😉 he he he

emily@remodelingthislife - He’s so handsome, Meg. Happy birthday to him! I love the cake and candles.

Suzanne Lay - Everything that you just said at the end about parenting it SO TRUE!!! and it made me cry but they are happy tears! I have three and they just tug at my heart so much!! There is so much love…indescribable!!!XOXO

Teresa - I care that you made a KU cake!! I love it!
What a sweet son you have…Happy Birthday!

shauna reed - meg, he is beautiful.
(hope he doesn’t read this 😉
there is a sparkle in his eye.
he knows he is loved…i can tell.
good job momma!

Valerie@Chateaualamode.typepad.com - Parenting is the most complex and amazing thing isn’t it? My “little” boy just turned 19…sniff, sniff, where oh where does the time go?

amber - What a cute little boy:). And, how crazy to see those pictures build up to that kid you have now. Crazy, crazy, crazy. He’s still a cutie now, too. And, 13 is still little, right? Happy Birthday!

Karen - Awe. I LOVE this age! We have a 13 year old in our house too! They are fun to be with, independent, smiley all the time, helpful (well, sometimes), and yes, they are the “black hole” of groceries…! Lovely cake too! Happy Birthday – you are officially a teenager!

Ana - He is a very cute kid. I love his awesome smile!
Happy birthday!

Jacci - My little guy is about the age of Scott in the pic with the red truck. SO weird to go through the photos and watch the same little fae turn into your 13 year old “man”! All I have to say is, I’m glad it happens gradually. AND I’m glad for posts like these that bring some sweet perspective. Happy Birthday, Scott!

Amanda - Oh my goodness, I just have to share. My little brother will be 15 in August, but I remember he had the same sippy cups, with the dinosaurs! I remember taking the little plastic piece out of the cap when I cleaned the dishes for my momma. Such wonderful memories. Thank you for reminding me. Enjoy 13!

Tonya - Happy birthday, Scott! I love what you said about knowing the names and uses of ALL the construction vehicles…my boy taught me those things as well!

Sarah @ Handbags*N*Pigtails - Hey…he looks like a pretty happy kid to me. Terrible teen here? Nah…I dont think so:)
Happy Birthday to your BEAST.
xo,
Sarah

sharron - you had me at no drugs..yikes!
he is so handsome and has a sweet soul that shows in his eyes.
happy day to your son and the cake looked awesome!
blessings~

Mindy Harris - makes me want to cry.
you said it perfectly:
it’s crazy.
and awful.
and humbling.
and HARD.
but still so very cool.
love this. happy bday to scott!

kristy - Oh gosh, 13…. I’m going to faint when my little ones get to that age…. you aren’t old enough to have a teenager, right? 🙂
I LOVE the cake…. stinks when no one oohs and aahhs over it. Before you said that, I thought, “That cake is amazingly cool!” So yay to you… I’ll appreciate it for you. (said from a Mom who tries to make her kids cakes!)
You are a great mom!

melissa - he’s a handsome one.
happy birthday!!!!

Jemm - Happy birthday to your boy! My oldest will be 13 in Oct. I’m really scared for the teen years. Parenting is HARD! I’m TRYING to see the awesome-ness with two “tween” girls…really I am 🙂

Kimberlee Jost - Happy Birthday, Scott!
Why would anyone want to have their picture taken with Waff is beyond me?! Ha.
He IS a scene stealer. Big time.

Dana @ Bungalow'56 - They will remember the special cakes Megan. It just happens later. Even if it seems like it isn’t a big deal. It is. Your love is in each and every piece. It would seem I’m feeling a little sentimental this morning.

Kris - What a handsome boy! MY little boy turned 22 a few months ago. I miss his little hand in mine. But now I have three marvelous grands whose hands I love to hold, and they have stolen my heart!

freckled hen - Happy birthday to your handsome young man…I guess that means that you have two teenagers now. And though in any other conversation it would sound like I’m bragging I feel the need to tell you I have three. Which really just means that my hair is turning gray faster than yours. My 13 year old son wears athletic clothes everyday and only speaks basketball, too. I miss him in overalls.
I received my Summer with MM yesterday and wanted to tell you your article is great!

andiejaye - aw…you made me all sniffly. my little man will be 3 this fall and i’m already having those bittersweet moments. this just gave me a little peek into what i’m in for. happy birthday to your son. thanks for the continued blessings and enlightenment you give me when i read your posts.

Carly Winborne - he has a fantastic smile!

RLG - I know he cared, but he’s probably too cool to say the cake was awesome. Your family is breathtaking. It’s such a pleasure to watch them grow. I feel old too, and I’m older than you, Meg, with twin 4yr-olds and an almost 7yr-old. Sigh. So much to look forward to. xoxo

Lia - Happy Birthday young man.

Lindsey - My son just turned 2. You made me cry thinking of him growing up. His little body is pressed against mine as I type this. I wasn’t so happy this morning waking up at 6:30 with him but now I’m thinking I should cherish these moments (even early, early in the morning).

heidi @ wonder woman wannabe - I’ve got two boys born in May – one just before Mothers Day, the other just after…gonna make me a sentimental wreck every year because of that, I’m sure! 😉 One just turned 3, the other will be 6 in a few days – you’ve gone and got me all sappy thinking about the day they’ll be man-boys! Just getting started with the sports thang and I LOVE it!
